Shush a shallot is a cross between an onion and garlic, it looks like a garlic bulb.

It probably has another name in the UK but I can't think of it right now :dizzy: .

We have shallots in the UK! Although I don't think they're sold, so much, in supermarkets - but my dad used to grow them!

Here's a Basal Metabolic Rate calculator I found online:

http://www.weightlossforgood.co.uk/bmr_calculator.htm

I've noticed that BMI calculators vary slightly - as the borderline between *obese* and *overweight* can vary by a couple of pounds, depending which one you use... so I'm not sure how accurate this tool is.

I have a BMR calculator in Rosemary Conley's cookbook, *Eat Yourself Slim* and also in her *New Body Plan* Diet and they do seem to be the same as this online one. I think they're great and a lot of folk are surprised by just how many cals you can eat!

RC recommends you recalculate your BMR after each stone lost.

Love, PhatPhoenix x

Hmmmm :chin: Well, i've just used this one and it says 1468 yet the one on 3FC says 1944  thats a big difference :yikes: on the 3FC one I entered sedentary so it would give me the lowest reading :dunno: don't know what to make of that :(

This is a wonderful thread about those dreaded metabolic calculators ....

http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63403

I have found that if I look around on the internet enough :dizzy: I can find something that tells me almost anything I want to hear  . Buyer beware.

cat90 08-27-2005 04:32 PM

 In other words don't bother with 'em :lol3:

That Meg is pretty wise!

Shallots are easily found once a year, but don't ask me when that is lol. I just know that people buy them to pickle.

As for the calculators, I found three different ones, all saying around the same amount of calories. But one of them said that that amount of calories is to stay at the weight you are, and that you should drop by 500 cals if you are trying to lose weight. I think I feel safer just sticking to my WW points. It's worked for me before, and as long as I don't give up at my first plateau then I should do ok.

Hugs,

Ammi

Is there a bmr for sloth like movements?! lol That's me, though I do try & exercise I have to have a rest afterwards.

AmmiUK 08-29-2005 11:31 AM

LOL I found a web site that worked out the amount of calories you work off doing various things. Funnily enough lying in bed was on there, but it said you only work off one calorie in an hour. Rats, that's my fave exercise lol.

Hugs,

Ammi

Cat I think your discrepancies are that the 3FC calculator takes into account what you do on top of your BMR. So the amount you burn doing nothing would be around 1400 and the amount you burn day to day would be around 1900. :D

Although 3FC and Fitday vary greatly for me! I'll just do my own thing and see what happens!

cat90 08-31-2005 02:26 PM

Hmmm :chin: could be :dunno: but the one that PhatPhoenix gave us does'nt have the option to put in sedentary..moderate exercise etc so you'd think that the amount it gave you would be the amount required just to continue living  on the one on 3FC I put in sedentary thinking I'd get the amount required just to continue living if you get my drift  but they were miles apart  I should check out a few others and see how they fare ;)
