Is there a UK version of Idaho potatoes?

  • DH and I were in New York a few weeks ago and I had a baked Idaho potato and it was the BEST jacket potato I ever tasted!! I cooked it myself so it wasn't like it had flavour enhancers that restaurants like to use, just the natural flavour of the potato blew me away. My question is, is there a UK equivalent of the Idaho potato? I'd post a link to info on it but as I have under 25 posts I can't do links yet but if you google it you can get some info! Thanks in advance!
  • I've no idea, but it sounds interesting! I must admit since moving back to the UK, I've been truly disappointed in the quality of the spuds when backed over here. They have an almost sweet taste to them somehow. I'd love to know of a decent variety!
  • Thanks so much for replying! You're right about the sweet taste in potatoes in the UK I also noticed this! I'll keep my eyes peeled for any info I find on the right potatoes. Who would have thought it would be such a tough search? LOL!
  • It might be a russet potato.
