Back on Track & Slimming World

  • Hi, blimey, I can hardly believe I'm back woriting here again, I used to post but gave up as my diet was getting nowhere and I was feeling very low. HOWEVER, I managed to keep my weight fairly stable and kept exercising like mad,ending up about as fit as you can be whilst still fat! Then 3 weeks ago I joined Slimming World, and although it's early days I have some hope that it may work for me. I always said I'd never join a slimming club, but then again I've said many other dumb things in my life too. I'm now 8.5 lbs lighter than I was and I thought I'd have a look here to see if there were any other slimming worlders out there to swap recipes etc with. I know they have sections for Weight Watchers on 3FC so I assume this doesnt count as advertising.
    I've seen a few of you following the plan in my quick lurk....is there anyone out there who want to talk with me? Christmas is approaching and I feel storm clouds looming over my diet!

    I am a SW girl (green days only) and I do like the diet (well it is called food optimising not allowed to say diet!). I have found it easy although I do cheat which has nothing to do with hunger but all to do with greed (choccies, crisps etc).

    Have you been buying the magazine? It is cheaper from the class. Also have you tried the web site? Lots of good recipes there.

    I find the green recipe book very helpful as there are loads of curry recipes in which I love. I also have the 4 in one book -forgotten what is it called but it has a world of flavours in it plus quick and easy. I loved the falafel recipe in it.

    Are you doing red or green days -or a mixture? I find the pasta n'sauce packets very good (especially the mushroom and white wine one. These are sin free if you just make it up with water (no milk or butter). Our leader Karen made a kind of quiche buy cooking this pasta up, when cool mixing with an egg and a pot of cottage cheese. Then baking it. It actually tasted really nice! Just no pastry.

    Of course if you are a "red" lady you will be eating meat and fish. There is a mixture of people at my class. A lot find the green day good because of all the filling pasta, rice and potatoes. Others cannot face the thought of stodge and prefer their meat!

    Are you new at SW or did you join before?

    I have tried other places and other diets but really think this is the best for me.

  • Hi thanks f or writing back, I thought I was all alone there for a minute.
    I'm green every day too, I'm not keen on meat so it's easy. To be honest, Im so thrilled at being able to eat macaroni cheese at lunchtime I haven't done many of the recipes, although I may have a go in the next few weeks, especially with some of the puddings. We tend to knock back the Cristamas cake & trifle over the holidays and I've learned it's much better to be prepared. We are having our Christmas party at the class next week and we all have to prepare something low sin or sin free to bring so I'm going to have a look in the green recipe book and see if there's anything I can manage.
    I joined SW a few years back, went for one week and then found out I was pregnant, so I didn't go back, I wish I had. The people in my class are so nice and a real mixed bunch.
    Anyway, it's lunch time so out with the macaroni cheese!

  • You could do a low sin dip and some veggie crudites or those low fat crisps (mind you I don't like them). There is a recipe for a low sin hoummous which is really nice. Or you can always 'cheat' and bring in a bought item that you know is low sin. Or, if they have a microwave, sit there with your macaroni cheese and DON'T share!!!!!!!!!
  • I have just thought of another idea - a low sin fromage frais or yogurt as a dip with fresh fruit dippers.
  • Thanks for the ideas, i did look at the humous recipe but as it was lacking in sesame I thought it would be horrible. I will do the fruitthing, I expect everyone will bring savoury stuff so it will be a bit different. I might buy some more exotic fruits.
    I'm in the middle of fuming at my DH who is giving up smoking. He has gum prescribed by the doctor and a stop smoking clinic to go to every week, but he still feels he has to compensate for his two cigars in the garden shed by having wine and chocolate most nights. If I could stand the thought I'd rush out,buy 20 Marlboro & smoke them in front of him.
    He says giving up smoking is different...but I'm not convinced!
    Anyway, I should finish, as I'm writing this my Dad is on the phone about his central heating breaking down (no, I'm not a heating engineer but they cost money so he's going to try here first!!!) so I'd better give him a little more of my attention.
    This is going to be a chocolate muller lite evening!

    I've been going to SW for 14 weeks and have lost 21lbs. I mostly have green days though I usually eat some chicken or Tuna most days but I call them healthy extras. I eat an awful lot of Muller lite yoghurts, they are my saviours some days. We are supposed to be having a fuddle Xmas week but I'm going to be miserable and not go because I won't be able to resist the temptation. Buffet tyoe spreads are a definite nono with me.
