The Pants of Doom
Hi all, I'm Jane and I've just joined the site...
Isn't it amazing that it can be just one little thing that makes that switch click in your head. That one chance comment, or glance, or thought, that makes you think 'enough is enough'.... My 'little thing' came at Christmas, when as part of my Christmas present my beloved MIL (who luckily I love dearly, otherwise I may have walloped her!) bought me a 5 pair pack of size 26 white cotton waist-high knickers from M&S...you know the type, beloved by 90 year olds everywhere, that could be pressed into use as an emergency parachute or a spare pillowcase in a crisis ... This wouldn't have been so bad if they were the type of pants that she wears herself (after all, she is 70 years old), or even if they weren't 5 sizes too big, but given that MIL only ever wears Janet Reger underwear, at upwards of £90 a set, and she'd have been mortified if I'd bought her the same style of knickers, even if I'd chosen the correct size, it was more than a little galling! OK, she loves me, it wasn't her intention to insult me, and obviously it's just the way she sees me - but it was a lightbulb moment for me, and the 'click' that led me to seek out this forum. From great mortifications, great determinations grow.... Kind regards, Jane xxx |
Oh dear. Yes, I hate those kind of moments...I have a friend whose granny would say 'Oh dear, look how big you are!' every time she saw me. The last time was in front of about 15 people. Not nice. I wanted to say 'Yes, and look how ancient and wrinkly and RUDE YOU ARE! AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
But I wouldn't do that. I have manners...unfortunately! (I wish I didn't!) Anyway, hello! :) Nice to meet you. you should come and join the 'new year...new me' challenge. Each month we set ourselves a goal of the number of pounds we would like to lose, then we update weekly. It's very motivational! |
My grandmother used to buy me size 18-20 clothes until my dad said look either buy her size 12 or not at all, we used to joke that my rather larger cousin was probably recieving size 12 clothes.

Welcome to 3FC Magra! Its a great place to be! =)
Thanks Ladies for all the hilarious stories! lol Love it! |
Ugh, I had an opposite moment. My loving size 0 sister bought me a pair of jeans for my birthday. She bought be a size 10, which I usually wear - just not in this brand. I wanted to wear them for a night on the town but when I went to put them on, I couldnt get them over my butt. Ironically, I am wearing those jeans right now. :D

Way to go!!!! :D :carrot::carrot::carrot:
I can't wait to get into the jeans I was wearing 2 years ago! I feel like they taunt me! |

Cheers! :D I hope so! |
ROFL! I love your post. This is a classic. Good Heavens! WTH was she thinking???
In any case, I am glad you are here regardless of what style "knickers" you are wearing. Welcome! Yes, we do all have those "lightbulb" moments but I can honestly say this is the first time I have read about receiving Granny Panties as that defining moment. Next year when you are tight and tiny, you should be sure to give her a thong! :) |
This reminds me of a friend of mine a few years ago. Each time she saw her grandma at gatherings her grandma would shout out to her as they hugged, "looks like you are puttin' on a few!"
LOL--like ya Grandma, "great to see you too!" |
Oh dear! Haha.
Why is it always the older generation eh? The lady that used to say it to me would always forget that she'd said it before (or that we'd even seen each other recently), so it made it worse that it was what sprang to mind EVERY time! Argh!! So mortfying! Did she think i want to look like this?! |
Thanks for your support everyone...I'm keeping the pants as an incentive (though they're buried at the bottom of my lingerie drawer, not lying on the surface where someone may see them)! I intend never to need them...! :)
|
I just remembered, I have an old pair of pyjama bottoms that my auntie got for me, and even at my highest weight both my boyfriend and I could get in them! One leg each! Hilarious! I keep them because they're so funny! Like you, I find it a bit distressing that she thought I was that massive though! I look forward to prancing around in them when I'm smaller :)
|
I am really tempted to get my skinny jeans framed and put them on my wall as an incentive to lose the weight! lol

That's soooooo funny,my mil bought me a size 26 dressing gown for Xmas whilst telling me as i unwrapped it that it was the biggest she could find !!!
I was so grateful that my hubby had already bought me one in size 18. Even more so that she could see me prancing around in it after i told her that her choice was far too big ! And that I'd be returning it. Sometimes I'm sure she does it on purpose sometimes I'm led to believe it's a slip up (not often), she's not a small lady in fact she used to be larger than me but i think she enjoys having that over me (for now anyway) she was terribly jealous when we started a diet together a few years back and i lost more than twice as much as her in the same time. and I'm not mean but i CAN'T wait to feel smug around her, i wouldn't show it though. Other than with weight issues she is the best mil and granny anyone could ask for xxx |
