GL started today, well tonight
I went shopping and stocked up on GL delights. Stopped in at Starbucks for a Grande Americano and an almond croissant - just to say goodbye to the bad habits, you understand.
Tonight I made a sausage concoction that will last 2 meals: 3 peppers sliced 1 onion sliced 1 tin of chopped toms + 2 tbsp of tomato puree 4 sausages Cook for about 1 1/2 hours turning the sausages regularly - and watch the peppers change dramatically into a truly unctious mixture (I've always wanted to use that word :p ) From the list of allowables I chose sweet potato and squash mash to soak up the juices, about 120 grams with black pepper is one serving. It looked nice, smelt nice and tasted really good and I feel stuffed! If this one, randomly chosen dish is anything to go by I am going to gain so much weight...... unless the blurb is true ;) Has anyone else has tried The Holford Diet? What else can I look forward to, besides and unconfortably full feeling? |

I shall post any that come up that good. It was far too easy and tasty to give up on.

Indeed! there is a slogan circulating at the moment that I think is so relevant:
"Dieting is easy, until your hungry!" I don't know how structured your meal plans are are what is allowed, but I recently posted a yummy recipe in the 'recipes' section that is Stuffed BellPeppers, which you may like. You can modify it real easy, I have made them without meat before, but last time I used lowfat pork mince, you could use low fat sausage meat, LF minced beef or shredded Chicken... hmmm, I hungry! |
That sounds yummie :) I'm addicted to peppers at the moment and I'm sure eating a lot of them is helping to keep chocolate cravings away. I'm calorie counting at the moment but may try that meal soon.

Today was OK - started off badly as I woke up far too late for breakfast, so I grabbed a cup of coffee (banned) and a banana (not sure about that). Tasted nice, Banoffee.... Lunch was easy, Greek salad, and tea was leftovers of the above recipe - tastes just as good second time around, with salad this time. I've just finsihed tomorrow's lunch - brown pasta and stuff (beans, feta and olives) in a spicy tomato sauce. I'll add salad and fruit tomorrow. The carefully weight portins look HUGE!!!! As did today's - definitely still feeling full! Fingers crossed! |

Chicken with cherry toms and creme fraiche - delicious Serves 1 1 chicken breast 4oz cherry toms Low fat creme fraiche Basil leaves - optional Put in a shallow dish then in the oven on 200C for about 1 hour, baste with the juices. When the chicken is cooked take out of oven and finish off the sauce: In the dish or pan oif dish not hob safe, add almost 1 tbsp of low fat creme fraiche, bring to boil, turn down until sauce thickens. Add torn basil leaves if you like! Serve with 2 -3 small boiled new pots, half a small jacket or sweet pot and a salad if you like. I used the other half of the seet pot/squash I had with the sausages. And I am simply stuffed - again. I'd recommend the jacket option, lots of sauce that is too nice to leave behind! I can't believe I am not cheating - and I am down 2lbs already! But none of it counts until my Sunday weigh in! Fingers crossed. |

Friday night is steak night.... .... and I found a GI steak suggestion! CLose enough! Anthony WTs GI book, steak and salsa verde - yay! Still feeling stuffed and losing! This might actually work. Having said that I haven't managed much Wii time yet - hip is killing me and refuses to move. So I have stocked up on chondroitin and glucosamine plus the EHA fish oils - why I stopped taking them I have no idea IDIOT!!!! In 3 weeks time I'll be Wii ing for England! |

Crikey, DH has got on board.
He has resurrected an old recipe, lamb chops and lentils. Feeds 2 Basically get some thin, thin lamb chops and cook them to a cinder, or 2 chicken breasts marinaded for 2 - 6 hours in: a pinch each of ground cumin, coriander, turmeric, chilli and a little olive oil stirred into 3tbsp of natural yogurt. Cook 175g of Puy lentils in 1 onion and 2 garlic cloves, sauteed Add 1 small chopped chili, 2 pinches of turmeric, 1 small cinnamon stick, 1 star anise, 4 cardomom pods. Add 700ml of hot stcok and cook until the lentils have a bit of bite, season and add 2 chopped toms and chopped coriander and/or parsley if you want to. The lentil mix should be sloppy not dry. Sounds like a faff but is easy to do with reduced herbs and spices (we never seem to have star anise). Scrummy! From Fat Girl Slim, by Ruth Watson, yes that Ruth Watson, the scary Hotel Inspector. Hellfire - not doing well now!
It's Thursday and I haven't lost anything! I did put a pound on over the BH weekend - I accept that, wine, ice cream and a spanish fabada to die for. We brought the sausages back from Spain and have ben waiting for a BH weekend to enjoy them! I will always accept that life gets in the way of a good diet. What I am hoping is that as this GL thing is such a goody that I will be able to reach the end of this week with no gain, or a pound loss even! I should be OK as I got back into the GL thing on Tuesday evening! Fingers crossed! |

Just one more night until I can weigh in and see how I'm doing after the disastrous food (but otherwise lovely) weekend with DH! If I gain I'll kill him when he gets home again, next weekend. Hopefully we can calm down now the sausage has been used. I've got cut and come again salad leaves growing just outside the back door, turnips almost ready to go and lots more veggies coming on - surely I can eat well this summer!?!?! Ooooooooooooooooh, one more sleep..... |
So, I woke up this morning, weighed in and.....
tantara - 1lb loss! Yey! Happy, happy. DH is forgiven, he can come home next weekend.... So now what do I do? Well, breakfast every morning didn#t work very well last week, so that stays top of the list! Then lunches! That single pound off has made me feel good! I went out and bought 2 dresses in Monsoon, slightly tight and easy to adjust later! Shan't be doing that again, I have summer stuff all sorted. So I can concentrate on getting into some nice shirts in September! Joy! |
Oooooooooooooooh! I found all of the super ripe fruit in 2 supermarkets, all reduced fresh and/or frozen....
.... I bought a load of it and some reduced fat creme fraiche, some frozen yoghurt! With a bag of lettuce, some anti pasto, olives and a tiny tin of tuna I am a very happy bunny! Skinny(er) me is on the way :D |

that sounds like my kinda food, i had the best intentions today but have nose dived, however, have done 45 mins on the walker and the wii....so fingers crossed.
is anti pasto good for you ? i thought it was fatty? if it is good for you..im onto that..i love the stuff!:p |

The anti pasti is allowed and in the 'unlimited' column! The only reason it is fatty is cos it is in olive oil, and you drain that!
I'm going for artichoke hearts and grilled red peppers tonight! Ooops! I made typo, PESTO is fatty, all that cheese, olive oil and pine nuts etc - but a little bit is OK! |
GL is a 'refinement' of GI.
It looks at portions of foods and so is easier to follow and equally effective (or so it seems so far). And the monsoon dress was fab, everyone commented on it :D |

I went to the local new shopping experience The Quays today. M+S outlet shop and a Per Una dress for less than half price. Me and both of my boobs got comfortably into a size 18!!! :spin: :spin: :spin: |

Anyhoo! I'm feeling a bit better today so I'll add some exercise back in - some Wii Fit, I think the Fitness Coach will be a bit too much. But I'll definitely do the Don King boxing training too! In about 2 weeks I'll be able to go to a student free gym and do some bag work for real, so I'd better get ready for that! And I just found an old fave recipe, why I ever lost it I don't know
Chicken/Fish Salsa 1 chicken fillet or piece of fish per person, one tin of beans (kidney beans, black beans, etc per person and one pot of ready made salsa for 2! (I use more salsa cos I like it). Layer it up, beans, salsa, chicken/fish, wrap it in foil and bung it in a medium oven for about 30 mins! It is low on kcals, fat and GI/GL, so a goody'un for all diets! And it is absolutely filling and delicious! |

I have a whole heap of all sorts of cookery books as well as a couple of GL ones.
I am using the GL ones to modify our favourite foods as it is really simple to do once you get the hang of it. I am a foody, so it is interesting to see how I can make even the most extravagent meals 'safe'. I'm working on a Thai an Indian and a Mexican feast - oddly it seems as though all 3 will be quite easy to modify each dish. I just need to work on the amounts to eat and freeze now! |
