marshmallow peeps?

Are marshmallow peeps available in the UK? I'm putting together an easter basket for a young friend in England and want to include goodies that are unique to America. It seems like I saw the peeps when I was there last year, but I can't remember.

If they are, looks like I've been missing out. I am a bit of a sweetie connoisseur and I haven't seen them.

I don't think they are over in England although I haven't been home for a few years now, but when I send my friends there some, they love it and say that they've never seen them over there as yet. So Suzanne, I'm sure you're friend over there would be very pleased to receive from you at Easter :) Wish I could eat them too, do you happen to know how many calories, fat content? LOL!

Suzanne 3FC 03-16-2002 02:00 AM

Each peep has 32 calories and 0 fat and 8 carbs :D

Thanks for the input! I'll definitely send her some then.

I just visited the website that Suzanne gave the link for - they look like they might be duck shaped flumps - Chris - is that right??

BritinNJ 03-16-2002 10:40 AM

Yes very similar if I remember flumps right, I think I used to buy my kids them in the penny bags at Londis....mmmmmmm, now I'm thinking about all the penny sweets at home, fruit salads, black jacks, white mice, sherbert flying saucers..... no calories in any of them of course, there couldn't be!

OOOOOh does anyone remember frozen jubblies (sp) b 4 the days of frozen tip tops? They used to kep my mouth busy for ages!!!

Smiling Sal 03-16-2002 08:20 PM

Don't know about the jubblies, but I loved the penny caramels you used to buy. They were like a big toffee and took ages to eat. They were made by McCowans and I now live close to the sweet factory. Which probably means they only sold locally & no one else will have any idea of what I am talking about.

What about macaroon bars - cococut to die for :o Was also a big gobstopper fan until I nearly choked once.

Jubblies oh yes!!
McCowans toffees still available at the sweet shop in my mums village, i loved them, did they make the everlasting toffee strip ?
Ahhh memories, I saw some of those peeps on a photo on thedietgirl - online journal that veggie posted .mmmmmm

Sarah Ann 03-17-2002 03:07 AM

Ohhhh!!!! I used to love Jubblies - and all those penny sweets!! Before dieting I used to treat myself to 10 or 20 pence worth occasionally. The decisions about what to chose for my 20p don't get ANY easier in your 40s!!! My favourites are those large white chocolate discs covered in multi coloured little balls (I think they call them snowies).... but I'm not fussy - any of them will do.

tupperware queen 03-17-2002 03:17 AM

My favourite sweets are boiled sweets, particularly Yorkshire Mixtures, pear drops, sherbet lemons etc.ooh my mouth is watering!!I love chocolate but sweeties (or spice as I call 'em!!) yummy, i love all those sour fizzy jelly gums too..........of course I don't eat them now (much) :o

Sarah Ann 03-17-2002 08:24 AM

Yes - they call them 'spice' round here as well (or goodies). TQ - do you call sherbert 'KAYLIE'?? The little girl next door was having a sherbert dip and called it kaylie (said Kale eye).

Jano 03-17-2002 11:29 AM

Yes Sarah we call it Kale Eye too, used to put it in water, as a kid to try to make fizzy pop:-) Happy Days.

Also I loved lucky bags, wow they really worked ;-(

veggie 03-17-2002 11:53 AM

Good god I have not heard the word kale eye for ever and ever I have no idea how to spell it either! I'll copy Janos spelling. ;)
