Day 4 of no pink patch

Weight - 159.6

10.45am - had breakfast and large coffee. Am trying not to have a snack again this morning, just a cup of coffee. It's hard when you're at home - the kitchen is always there. At least when you're working, you don't have time to think about food. One good thing about going back to work - it makes it easier to diet.

10.30pm - well today has been ok. I managed to not snack in the morning or in the afternoon. Cut down on my coffee too.

I have a feeling tomorrow will be the day I lose. Sometimes you stay the same for days and days and then suddenly lose 2 lbs overnight.

Total cals logged today - 1305

Day 5 of no Pink Patch

Weight - 158.7 - yay, a loss since yesterday, but only 0.2 overall!

Robsia 05-09-2008 04:50 PM

Day 5 of no pink patch

Weight 158.7 (loss 0.2)

Have had a nibbly day today. Head breakfast of weetabix and milk with sweetener, and a large mug of coffee, then was still hungry so had a bowl of dry cheerios. Managed to not have another snack till lunch - which was 4 crackerbreads and a big pot of cottage cheese and a WW yoghurt. And another cup of coffee.

Had a cereal bar mid afternoon.

Tea was sweet and sour chicken with 1 oz pasta. And another cup of coffee.

It's 6.30pm and I have about 120 cals left.

But hopefully I should see another loss tomorrow - I can feel myself shrinking.

I managed to get out for a walk again today - not sure how long as we went somewhere different this time. But we were out for about 1.5 hours, including stopping for a bit to feed the ducks and look at the ducklings.

8.10pm - had another cereal bar (ran out of cheerios) and will have small coffee later and that should use up my calories.

Total cals today - 1358

Robsia 05-10-2008 03:54 AM

Day 6 of no pink patch

Weight 157.8 (total loss 1.1)

Yay - I lost almost a pound since yesterday! About time too. Still, I need to lose another 1.6 by tomorrow to match the pink patch loss.

freethetoys 05-10-2008 03:18 PM

yay well done, bout time too

SoulBliss 05-10-2008 03:30 PM

Robsia, would you post information from the package (amounts of ingredients and so on)? I am curious.

freedomreins 05-10-2008 04:15 PM

I ordered the six day trial today, so I am hoping it might show up Monday or Tuesday. I am interested in trying it too. Though I am having success with Weight Watchers, I am nearing goal and it is getting more and more difficult to lose those last few pounds! For only £1.95 shipping, I figure it might be worth it to try a six day boost though I don't intend to actually purchase it. I would rather struggle for the next few months than spend £35.95/month on some patches!

Day 6 of no pink patch

Weight - 157.8

4pm - I always feel so jazzed when I've lost weight. It makes the whole thing so much easier. Had weetabix and milk this morning and a big mug of coffee. manager to go with no snack this mornng. Te evening meal we always have on Saturdays is quite calorific so I have to try to be good in the day as there is very little left over for snacks.

We went out and had a picnic lunch on the prom, which is good as I pack everything in advance and I can't nibble more stuff as I'm not at home. Plus the walk makes it even better. So ham sandwiches and 100g grapes for lunch. And a coffee when we got home. We came home sooner than we planned as dd fell in the sea! There were some big rocks that ran down the beach perpendicular to the sea and she had been climbing on them. But the sea was coming in fast and was starting to come in round the rocks. So as I was packing up our stuff I called her to come back as she might fall in.

Well, almost the next second, she did just that!! So I had to wrap the big towel round her and she had to walk home wet. Luckily she had taken her shoes and socks off so she had dry shoes and socks.

5pm - ok, I caved and had a mini milk. But they're only 30 cals. And i don't get tea till gone 6 on Saturdays.

9.30pm - friend came round unexpectedly this evening so I didn't have any snacks at all. So once she'd gone, I figured out what cals I had left and I had two breakfast bars and a nice big cup of coffee.

Total cals today - 1402

There isn't any information like that on the package. Sorry.

What? No breakdown of amounts of ingredients? That is illegal in the US. I guess it is different in the UK.

Robsia 05-10-2008 05:18 PM

Well, it's not like it's a medicine or a pill. I don't know what the rules are for patches. Anyhow, I don't have the packet any more, I threw it away when the trial finished. It might have been on but I didn't notice anything like that.

sh3l5 05-11-2008 03:49 AM

must say, since ur experiment i have been tempted to try it....

Robsia 05-11-2008 04:05 AM

Weight at end of no pink patch period - 157.6. Total lost - 1.3 lb.

Robsia 05-11-2008 04:06 AM

Results:

6 days on Pink Patch
Average calories consumed = 1367 per day
Weight lost = 2.7 lb

6 days not on Pink Patch
Average calories consumed = 1353 per day
Weight lost = 1.3 lb

Exercise was more or less the same, although, if anything, I did more the second week as the weather was nicer so we went out for more walks.

--------------------

So, interpret those how you will, but those are the results.

To get a more valid result, we'd need to do a much longer trial of course, with more people, and control groups and placebos and stuff like that.

freethetoys 05-11-2008 04:37 AM

it would be good if a whole bunch of us tried it together i think, like start of june or somthing, apply for the patches now, get a free trial, cancel subscription, and see the results as a group

Robsia 05-11-2008 04:44 AM

A cheaper alternative might be to take the main component of this patch, which is bladderwrack, also known as kelp, in tablet form:

http://www.simplysupplements.net/pro...0b1df2a49c5246

It's supposed to stimulate the thyroid gland, which boosts your metabolism and may help with weight loss.

sh3l5 05-11-2008 06:56 AM

i took kelp for about a month when i was at university....
it produced all sorts of side effects....
main one was constipation....
which i still get badly now if i dont eat my daily amount of fruit....
maybe the best way is natural weight loss....

freethetoys 05-11-2008 10:31 AM

i have tried a sort of dandelion tablet hels with natural diet weight loss by keeping your metabolism at a good rate, again all i got was constipation, very weak bladder, and not a huge amount of change, i think i agree with loopy.

Robsia 05-11-2008 01:52 PM

I found another type of patch with identical ingredients to The Pink Patch - but it's only £18 for two months' supply.

i have to ask what are the ingredients in Adios?? EDIT found this:

Adios tablets are a herbal medicine which helps speed up weight loss.

The ingredients

Adios contains herbal ingredients derived from Butternut (sometimes known as Juglans), Dandelion Root, Boldo and Fucus. These botanical constituents have been traditionally used in combination, as part of a calorie-controlled diet, to help people lose excess weight.

im gonna get some on friday because last time i used it i dropped weight very fast!

sh3l5 05-12-2008 01:54 AM

no supplements make any difference to me....
i have half a tub of Adios unused in my drawers!....

freedomreins 05-13-2008 05:50 AM

Mine's on its way, so I'm excited to see how it works. I am going to start using it next week! If it takes me to 150, I'll be thrilled! I have been losing and gaining the same two pounds since March!

saoirse79 05-13-2008 09:09 PM

I've been following this thread with great interest, you mentioned one of the ingredients in the patch was Yerba Mate, it's a well know appetite surpressant and in Argentina they drink it like we would tea/coffee. Basically you fill the cup (small) with the herbs and then sip it through a metal straw that has a sive at the end so that the herbs don't get into your mouth. Once it's finished you can keep refilling the cup and drinking again until it's too week. My friend is Argentinian and her family send her over bags of the stuff, she's given me some too, it's nice, although at first I never enjoyed the first cup, it can be a bit strong, but you definitely don't feel like eating! A sprinkling of sweetener on top helps too. I find that I get a bit of an energy buzz off it too, which helps me cut down on the coffee. It might be worth seeing if there is anywhere around you that imports it....I'd have to go to Dublin to get mine though... As for the straw, I'm sure you could just make it using a regular tea thingy for loose tea, might even mean it's a bit milder on a cup by cup basis. Congrats on your WL, and as for the neighbors, I put Metallica on the stereo full blast, go out for a walk, by the time you get back, they'll be begging to hear the beautiful keys tinkling again!!!

Robsia 05-14-2008 03:18 AM

I had looked into getting some Yerba Mate, as well as Hoodia, another well known appetite suppressant. There are a few places on the internet you can order it from. I have actually ordered some pills which contain two of the ingredients in the patch, kelp and and guarana. They are also a heck of a lot cheaper than the patch.

I am still losing though, althugh not at quite the same rate as I was. So, whatever else it did, it broke my plateau so I am happy. I would like to be at my pre-pregnancy weight (144) by July though. Got less than a stone to go so I'm hopeful.

freethetoys 05-14-2008 03:42 AM

good luck robsia, thanks for sharing that with us, glad it shifted your plateau (i myslef have just managed to shift one too, took about 5 months, doh!)

Baaaaad idea

Kelp products have been sold for years with claims of stimulating the thyroid and appealing to people with weight issues. It's a sales gimmick with potentially dangerous results.

There are two big problems with this. First, most people that are overweight have healthy thyroids. Our weight has more to do with our food choices and activity level. If you do have a sluggish thyroid, you can only be diagnosed by a physician and you will have to get a prescription medication to treat it. Second, if you have a normal thyroid (and most of us probably do) then taking products like kelp can possibly cause the opposite effect, damaging the thyroid and causing hypothyroid which is the complete opposite of your goal. Kelp also comes with a long string of potentially dangerous side effects such as kidney and nerve toxicity and abnormal bleeding.

There really isn't any product out there, other than a few prescription medications, that can help with weight loss. It's a bogus industry designed to take advantage of us. The only thing proven to cause effective and long lasting weight loss is diet and exercise. It's cheap and easy :)

Robsia 06-09-2008 12:30 PM

Hmm - out of curiosity I just tried to order it again to see if it would allow me to order another free trial - and it did! So I'm getting another lot - lol!

PhatPhoenix 06-10-2008 05:05 AM

Fennel is a good native appetite suppresant - you can grow it easy enough or just buy it - makes a salad more interesting, this time of year. Roman soldiers used to have a leaf of it in their mouths, when marching long distances. I have a huge plant of fennel in my herb garden, it comes back every year. Costs me nothing (cept the intial 75p I paid for the plant!) and isn't something wrecking the environment cos it needs importing from the other end of the world!

I tried hoodia in a patch a couple of years back when, like you, I was nearing the end of my weight loss, but needed to shift a last few lbs that wasn't going anywhere- had no effect on me. I'd suspect in a patch the L-carnitine would be in too small a concentration to have any effect? You need to take that in fair amounts, and it's pretty expensive so they're not going to use much in there.

Agree with what Suzanne says - it's all an industry tapping into people's desperation - we want to think there's a magic bullet but the bottom line is move more, eat less and eat 'real' foods not processed. There are plenty of safe remedies that have been used in our culture for centuries - but also don't be fooled into thinking because something is 'herbal' it is automatically non toxic, or safe, either. Herbal remedies are complex chemical compounds - far more complex than the synthetic drugs you get from your doctor. And if you buy into the fact they can help change your body, or have certain effects - it's illogical not to accept they can also have drastic side effects and/or contraindications. Best to consult a qualified herbalist than try things scattershot.
