Exercise
What type of exercise is everyone doing? I'm using my gravity walker, the treadmill but not managing to last long on it. And got an exercise bike yesterday so will be using that this week. Just need things that I can do from home as a bit too conscious of my size to go to a gym.

i'd love to be social enough to go to a gym, but actually i use A LOT of exercise DVDs. i also try to walk more. when the schools break up i might try to go to some exercise classes.

A mixture of running, cycling, swimming and weights. I'm marathon training, so the main focus is on running with the rest for cross training/commuting.
Don't be self-conscious about going to a gym. I was 260lb when I started at the gym and no-one batted an eyelid. In fact all it means is that now they know the full extent of what I've lost, rather than if I'd already lost some of it when I first turned up ;) If you go to a gym you can get good advice from the trainers about what exercises would be good for you, and get something more tailored than an exercise dvd. |
I do a few things really, firstly I have taken up running, I'm up to 1.5 miles now which I'm pretty pleased about, although some of that is walked I'm really please with my progress. I also have an exercise bike and I use the dance mat with the ps2. I try to vary it as much as I can.
I'd love to join a gym but we just can't afford it, maybe one day I'll be able to. |
Thanx guys. I'm struggling at mo with exercise. With the lovely rain we are getting I'm getting some right problems with my ankle. So trying to take it steady. Have spent all afternnon heaving furniture around in spare room to try anf fit exercise bike in as its currently in the middle of the dining room, where the table should be.

Hiya,
Have you tried "fit ball"? I have one of them and they are great fun. You can work them into all kinds of workouts. I'm seconding the lady who said not to be self-conscious about going to the gym. If you can afford it, gyms are great. I can't really (afford it, that is) but I signed up as a kind of promise to myself I would lose the weight and so far it's really worked to motivate me (I spent £££ on this! I'm bloody well going!) The machines are built for all kinds of sizes and you can get help to make a personal plan...it's great! Finally, did you consider going to a class in your area, maybe low-impact aerobics? I do that too and there are all sizes and shapes in my class. |
Thanx everyone. I am currently persevering with the treadmill. Getting on with the exercise bike and doing well with the gravity walker. Hoping to go for some walks this week, although taking dog with me as not really a nice area to walk alone.
