Those tanning moisturisers

I'm 'blessed' with that really pale freckly skin that's so white it's see-through. Very attractive to be able to see all the internal workings!
I started using Johnsons Holiday Skin on my Persil white legs, but to be honest, although it has given me the faint suggestion of a tan I think I need something to make me a bit more 'opaque'.

Don't want to be orange though :D

Any suggestions?

I was just thinking about doing my legs!

I used the Avon face one last year (I used it on my legs...) which was quite good (if you can get hold of it). I never need it on my face but from the neck downwards I'm very pale. The Johnsons one was pale on the first application and then made me look like I'd been tango'd after the second application.

I just can't seem to get the blummin stuff on without it being all smeary and streaky. Usually my knees are bright orange.

I'm really pale too (but interesting ;) ) and I used the Johnsons stuff last year. It made me bright orange and it's only supposed to give you a hint of a tan :( Needless to say this year I will be pale and interesting again (but wear very long skirts!)

I was thinking of having that spray treatment - has any one had any experience of it? I just don't want to end with that Victoria Beckham perma-tan look.

I used to have the smeary problem with bottle tan, which is why I decided to go the tinted moisturiser route, you've got multiple applications to even it out. But it seems to be too light for me.

I did get the orange knee thing, but then I bought some exfoliating gloves from Asda and give my legs a quick scrub down in the shower every morning, and voila! no orange knees.

Best tan I get is if I wear Factor 8 and do a lot of gardening/walking!

Can't use anything chemical on my skin as it's toxins straight into the bloodstream and as I have PCOS, it just makes my body work too hard. I use the sun creams from here, as they're mineral based and aluminium free:

I'm also blessed with see through skin and I too went orange with Johnson's holiday skin although it took two weeks for anything to happen. I went through the door of a tanning salon to get the St Tropez tan but then got scared like a big wuss and walked out. I don't suppose that counts does it Sarah? I'd recently seen an episode of Friends where Ross gets it's a bit wrong which may account for my about turn.

I think you also have to be careful if you sweat while applying it. I used one without realising what it was. Actually it just said after sun tan accelerator. Ok it is obvious to everyone else except me that it contained a fake tanning agent. My fave vest tops now have an almost permanent orange brown stain on the straps. So do some of my bras.

I think you would be really lucky not to get orange streaks but then I am only thinking of what I would end up with. For sure, you would need plenty of time of your hands, alone, to get it right!

I am very pale as well, so every time I have an event or feel like I need to look tanned I go Mystic Tanning. A lot of tanning salon's have it, you just step into the booth and it automatically sprays you. It takes about 8 hours to "develop" but after that I have a nice bronze glow, no orange.

I know a few people that have used FakeBake, don't think it's particularly cheap but they've all looked amazing, really natural sunny glow rather than the Donatella Versace look. I think you're supposed to put it on at night and leave it overnight then wash it off in the morning.

Not a UK chick, but thought I'd drop in anyway. I live in a tan-obsessed town. Almost every woman I know visits a tanning bed at least once a week. Not possible for me, since I'm blessed/cursed with pale skin and freckles and can't manage to develop anything other than a burn and more freckles. I had really good luck with a couple different brands of tanning moisturizer (Jergens and Aveeno) and neither of them turned me orange, but the process was excruciatingly slow. I've also tried "real" sunless tanner and it was a total disaster. Somehow it wasn't streaky at all, but it was the most horrible burnt orange color I've ever seen. Plus it took about a month to fade. Some of my friends have done the spray-on tan but it can be pretty pricey (and honestly, the paler girls do come out sort of weird-colored from what I've seen). Hopefully this helps- and one way or the other, you should definitely not be afraid to rock the 'white girl on the beach' look. I know I'm not. ;)

I used Piz Buin Gradual Moisturising Tan last year. I am also milk bottle white and freckly so I was a bit concerned I'd achieve the 'tango'ed' look but it worked really well.

nosnah1011 04-20-2007 11:56 AM

I bought some great sunless tanner from Bath and Body works... their stuff is really natural looking, it's not that expensive either
maybe like $12 a tube... which isn't the cheapest, but it works well so i think it's worth it

And I'm yet another one with pale skin and freckles! I do tan eventually, but only go a pale golden brown colour. I used Johnsons Holiday skin last year and it wasn't too bad if I used it a few days apart. When I used it two days on the trot I looked like a tangerine.

A friend of mine goes for the spray on tan now and again and it looks great, a nice natural colour. But then she has dark hair and tans lovely anyway so her skin is probably well suited to it.
