Yet another lingo ?
You people must be getting tired of my questions. But, I'm very thankful to you all.
"I have a motor" Does this mean this person has a car? a motorcycle? Someone was speaking about not taking the bus because the fares have increased. The other person said they have a motor. |
It's a car. So what are you watching?
|
Yup - it is a motor car!
Odd that it wouldn't have caused any problem here in the UK, but our 'shared' language makes it an oddity for the US! Love stuff like that! |
Yup - a car as in Alexi Sayle's hit record "Ullo John, Got a new Motor?" Pronounced Motah/ Mo'ah depending on how well or badly you speak!
( "Hello John, Have you got a new car?") We don't mind your questions in the slightest. I have often read stuff by Anmerican writers or on films and thought "You what?". It still amuses me that in USA people talk about purses when they mean (to us) handbags. A "purse" goes in a handbag to us. They usd to talk about putting their checkbook (chequebook) in their purse - and I wondr how they managed that.... |
