hello need motivation

  • over the last year i had lost 2 stone but gradually put nearly a stone back on.The problem is that all i think about is food,what is my next meal etc,but my main problem is night time eating.
    I am in a fairly basic routine at work I have set breaks and do eat healthily through that.I have something like all bran and sultanas for breakfast,wholemeal sarnie and low fat crisps for lunch,and a healthy tea,but then the food demons take over at night and even less than an hour after tea i can start eating as much as possible.
    I know while i am eating it that it is wrong but cannot seem to stop myself.Then of course i go to bed feeling so guilty,get up the next morning with good intention but then we go in full circle all over again.
    I really do not want to put any more back on again,and need some sensible advice as to how to break this vicious circle i seemed to have entered,but really do not know where to start.
    All i can think about is people saying "told you you wouldn't do it!!!" and you would think that would be incentive enough but it seems not.
    Help me please,anyone who is/has been in this situation i would be willing to do anything to get out and start losing weight again.

  • Okay firstly... do you plan? if not, you need to! People who plan plan plan succeed, plan what your meals will be like, what snacks will be...and plan what you'll do if you go off plan.

    Also...I really enjoy taking nice walks after I've eaten so maybe that's something you could do to distract yourself and also to burn off a few cals. I also forgot to mention that if you have a meal plan you're less likely to be thinking about what you should eat.
  • I was going to suggest going for a walk too, something to get you away from the house and food and get exercise too! Or do some housework if the weather's horrible.
  • I'm a night time eater myself, I found that it was best not to fight it, but work with it. If you're calorie counting then allow for a snack before bed. I know if I deny myself something then I just end up thinking about it constantly.

    Whenever I have bad cravings I do what I did when I was quitting smoking, which was to have a hot bubble bath, it distracts me from the immediate craving and gives me time to reflect on what I really want, I usually quickly realise I'd far rather get rid of my flab than have the fleeting enjoyment from eating food I don't need anyway. Spending time pampering yourself with body scrubs, creams etc reminds you that you want your body to look good.

    People telling you that you can't do it can work as an incentive, making you want to prove them wrong, but at the same time it's kind of negative. Try having a mental image of yourself as you will be when you have lost the weight and think of that whenever you want to eat something you don't need. And tell yourself that you can do it. Remind yourself that you own you and you will do as you tell yourself!

    Also remember that it's rarely easy to break a habit but it's only difficult for a short time. Each time you win the battle with yourself it becomes easier the next time until eventually you'll probably find yourself much less focused on the food but more on having the body you want.

  • hi just read your post on here and the one on the nuracheck site you seem so sad and down at the minute(know how you feel i was like couple of weeks ago) i think sometimes the harder you try the worse it gets you think about food your every waking minute and its all you think about i got like that a few weeks ago and i have a ton more weight than you to go so i decided not to post and just had a break and its worked it took the stress and pressure of only took a break for about 5 days a week at the most and it really helped i got this site after you had put the link on the nutracheck site and so pleased you did have onlu posted a couple of times so not sure what i`m doing yet lol but pm me if you want anytime ok
  • i'm the same. it's not night with me, it's day time when i'm home alone with nothing to do!! so i can sympathise.

    i'm trying a new thing, when i efel hungry outside standard eating times for me, i'm drinking water. cos i never have an issue at work cos i'm always on the go. and, if i'm really bnored i'll do extra exercise. who knows, maybe it will work.
