Can anyone tell me about the book "The Choice is Mine?"

  • It's put out by TOPS and I'm thinking about ordering it. Here's my biggest question. What are the advantages of having this book over "The Choice is Yours" or the really old "A Nutrition Monograph for Taking Off Pounds Sensibly?" I'm not going to waste my money if the two books I already have are as good as this new one. Do you know what I mean? I am a TOPS member at large, but not currently in a chapter. I just don't have any free evenings to get away right now. Maybe that will change. I think I would do better if I had to weigh in every week.
  • The choice is mine is very similar with a modern touch. It is a good book.I don't know whether there is an advantage over the older books. That sorta depends on how you look at. I personaaly think it is worth buying it even if it is like the others.Do you use the others. All I can say is it has a lot of info.It has a very good list of foods with their calorie, fat etc listed. I would recommend it myself.I know we all have tons of books but this is one of better ones.
I would recommend seeing if you could borrow the book from someone who has it before you buy it.All chapters have a copy on hand.Or at least they are suppose to.
  • Thanks Eleni!
I will look into it. Both of my kids will be in school this year and I'm going back to work as a substitute teacher after being a stay at home mom. Some days I will have free, so it might actually be better for me to find a daytime TOPS group. My evenings are very busy, so I don't think I can do an evening group. There will be lots of times I might not be able to be there and I know the rules used to be pretty strict about weigh-ins, absences, etc. I have about 50 pounds I need to lose. The biggest thing for me is just keeping a food diary. I even have the Nutribase software on my computer. I just don't always take the time to use it, but when I do, the pounds really come off because I'm more accountable for my actions.
  • The strictness with absences and weigh-ins really varies by chapter. Some chapters freak if you're not there, but others let it go. my chapter still requires you to pay your dues and such for the weeks you missed, but as long as you let another group member know ahead of time that you will not be at the meeting, then it counts as an excused absence and is no big deal. Check with your local chapters to see how the deal with absences--I hope you find one that's right foe you
  • Our rules are the same. We also have some that can only weigh in because of their jobs.No big deal.As leader my only concern is they are missing out on maybe getting helpful info etc from meetings.
