Wednesday

  • Good morning to everyone.Thought I would stick my head in and say hello. Things are much the same here. Bill and I started the SouthBeach diet yesterday. The first day went well.Got the potatos etc out of house by taking them to our son's house. Our son said our loss was his gain We also went to store and stocked up on things we can eat.My doc's nurse said to go ahead and eat the salads etc and they would just adjust my coumadin as needed. The doc has increased my tyhroid med. When it was checked in Oct it was off but GYN/family doc would not adjust because of congestive heart failure. So when I went for blood work this past Monday I made sure to get it checked so heart doc would see.Thyroid was partly to blame for my gains since Oct. She called in a new script yesterday. Also potassium was real low and increased that. I am a walking drug store. But it beats the alternative.
We have finally fixed our squirrel problem. i know they are so cute. But also very destructive when they get in your attic. We have trapped and relocated to local park 3 so far. They will get plenty to eat there.
I can tell winter is almost over here. The yellow finches feathers have turned a bight yellow. They look like canary's at feeders.Have a new woodpecker coming to feeders also.Plus the small woodpecker has pecked a hole big enough to go into on one of trees.I think it has made a nest there.Accidently saw it go in and then just barely have beak sticking out.
It will soon be time for SRD.We have a very small group going. But I am looking forward to getting away for a few days.Bill needs the rest and he likes Daytona. He has had a lot on him since I got sick.He had 3 stents put in back in Dec and ofcourse he does so much for me. He deserves a break.
Well that's it for me. Hopefully some of you will thaw out and stop having nasty weather. We have had a great winter.
I am still going to my art class every Sat and take a piano lesson once a month.Like I said things are the same. Ok Take care all of you
  • Hello,
I didn't get my final last night because the school was closed! I guess they had an electrial problem so classes were cancelled. Would've been nice to know that before I drove out there. So now I have to go back on Thursday.

I always get on my scales at home of Wednesday morning to see how the weigh-in might go on Thursday. Right now, despite all my overeating, it looks like I'm down 1/2 a pound. That would be great! I would feel like I was accomplishing something.

Sherri: I'm glad you brought up that question at your meeting. I believe that it is a control issue and the part about not being in the moment. I'm going to work on that as well. As soon as I feel overwhelmed, I loose control. Feeling overwhelmed is when I look ahead and see all that needs to be done. I'm a planner and I think that's ok, but I think that when I'm planning I need to be more specific about what I'm going to do right then to meet the goal ahead.
    Does that make sense?

So my plan for today is to rink my water. Journal my food and then post it here on the board. If I don't say I'll put it where others can see it, I won't do it. So, it will be here for all the world to see.

Mickey: It's good to see you here with us. I hope to see you more often. It really helps to have a good support system. As you can see by what I've already written I think your idea of doing the menu log is a good one. What else can we do to stay in control?

Everyone, post up and get in on this will us. I KNOW it will make a difference to our efforts.

Eleni: It's always great to read your posts. You make me slow down and look around me and enjoy nature. I laughed when I read your comment about being a walking drug store because I feel that way and I'm a lot younger than you are. I take: Synthroid (thyroid), Topral (heart mummer), Ditropan, Elmiron, Elavil, (IC) and Rhinacort(allergies). I was really depressed about all those meds, but my doctor said, it's what you need to participate in this life..just take them and go on.

I see a lot of you talking about SRD. When is that and where? I don't think we have anyone going from our group. I know we have a ARD in June. It's the weekend before my 40th birtday and I'm determined to go and be done 20 lbs.

Ladies, I must get busy at work. It was nice visiting with you all this morning.

    Susie
  • Susie, I take 22 pills a day.Ha Ha
SRD is State Recognition Day.It is held in each state. It is a two day conference where KOPS are honored,KOPS Graduate,Chapter King and Queens are honored and of course State division winners and the King and Queen for the state. They is also a fun night. A great time to meet others in your state. I met a lady 4 years ago from North Florida and we became best friends. Until we both got sick last year we would meet half way for lunch every few months. You will see hundreds and sometimes thousands of TOPS members.
There is also IRD which includes all TOPS members from all over the world. I have never been to one of them but I heard they are awesome.
Take care and keep on doing what you are doing
  • Mickey,

It was so good to hear from you again. You are in the right place for the support. You can get into leeway just focus on the moment and make the choices you know you have to make to get there. You can do this. I do hope all your medicals problems are over. It isn't fun having them.

    Eleni,

It was great hearing from you as well. Yes the squirrels are a neusense aren't they. Glad you are catching them and getting rid of them. My old boss used to do the same thing and take them to the park but they found their way back and it was over 3 miles away.LOL I guess they are smart to. I know they found their way back because he painted a stripe on them to see if they would return.LOL Sounds like everything is going well for you now. I hope the changes they made to your meds helps you. How is your exercise doing? That is great that you and bill are doing the same plan it really helps. Not like he doesn't help you out anyway but it makes it easier on you.

    Susie,

Sounds like you have a plan girl. It also sounds like we are a lot alike as well. I do believe it is a control thing. I realized I am a control freak myself and didn't even know it. That is why routines are so important to me. I am a planner to. I have a plan for this week as well. I am going to cut back on the bread as the leader suggested and eat more protein, milk and friuts and veggies. I also want to make sure I weigh and measure everything. I have been doing well with that anyway but need to keep it up. She can't help me if I don't journal. So I am focusing on living in the moment as well. We are going to have an awesome week. If you want I will post my menues with you if it will help you and mickey.

    Have a great night.

    Sherri
  • Just wanted to let you all know that I am still around..... just running around!

Sherri, Eleni, Susie, Wanda, Wendy, Christie, Ladean, Summer, Ciecie Love ya ladies!

I'm gonna get here to post soon!
  • Back Again, and In Control!
    Hello, everyone.
This has been a terrible day! I've had a sinus headache!!! And I didn't make wise choices eating this AM but got it corrected and maybe didn't do too much damage.

Susie, I don't think you have SRD's (only ARD's) in your state. I have a friend who moved to Ohio last year and she said they didn't have them and she really missed them. She is a 15 year KOPS.

Eleni and Susie, I know you don't enjoy taking the med's, but if that keeps you going, JUST DO IT!!!! WE need you healthy and happy! The Dr. just took me off some of mine...for which I am thankful, but I still take a bunch!

I have started doing the South Beach, I was just doing exchanges but I am having trouble. I did well when I did SB a couple of years ago. Then just got off, my mistake!

I will start a menu log tomorrow. Does everyone like that? It helps me to journal. That way I can see what I have done right or wrong! It doesn't matter what plan you are on, what ever works for you.

Eleni, do you have the SB cookbook? I have found several good recipes in there.

Christi, how are you doing? Have I just missed you?

Need to say Goodnight and get to bed!!!
    Hugs,
    Wanda
  • Good morning This is day 3 of being on the south Beach. So far so good. I got a few SB recipes here and there.Mickey I would be happy to see the recipes you have.
My initial concern was that some of main foods that we like are not good when taking coumadin but doc's nurse said to go for it.They will just adjust my meds.I get my blood checked every 3 weeks.
Bill is already losing. We had already cut way back on bread but the potatos and pasta is the biggie with us.I am not craving them.It is just that I used them a lot. But I am coimg up with plenty of stuff to eat without eating same thing.Except breakfast. It looks like it will be eggs and eggs. I got sugar free popsicles and jello for snacks.Plus I have used red and yellow peppers as an afternoon snack. Bill has to eat out on the road and he will soon get tired of salads. Plus he is not eating anything in the afternoon. That is a long time for him to go without eating anything.I suggested burger without the bread. So he has to work at finding stuff to eat and I still have to watch not overdoing it at home. I did get rid of a lot of stuff out of the house.
Our beautiful weather has ended. It started raining off and on yesterday and has been raining non stop all night and will continue all day.Being in Fl we always need the rain but it is so dreary. Plus I have to go out in it as I have a doc appointment and TOPS later this afternoon.
We got squirrel #4 yesterday. Sherri you did not make my day when you said they would come back.SOmeone told Bill the same thing. But we will have time to fix hole at end of house without worrying about trapping them inside. We took them about 7 miles away to a local park.
    ok I gotta go.Have a good day
