THURSDAY: Today is time for us Thursday so make a little time just for you today!

Carri: Sounds like you had fun! I am a pizza lover too, but even when we DO have pizza I don't get what I want because Jack only like Pizza Hut or in a pinch Papa John's. I like Dominos and he hates that and I miss a pizza place in Indiana called Rosinis that made the best New York style pizza I have ever had. Ahhh, those days are gone though!

I am doing great on my program. I get really hungry after lunch but plan a snack in there to get me through. I just decided to go back to my good ole fat and calorie counting as it works the best for me.

We begin painting the trim in Jack's office on Saturday. I actually don't mind the trim as I just lay on my belly and paint away. I do all the close up stuff with artists brushes to keep it nice and neat. It is going to look so nice in there; cadet gray and navy blue. It will allow him to think of the Navy again, I guess! After the disgusting colors he wanted to paint (it was like a pumpkin color that was awful with a green no less!) I finally eased him around to these two colors. I ordered his throw rug for in front of his door and we are ordering his pleated shades tomorrow. His new desk is in the trunk of the car waiting for him to take his old one apart. It isn't old, only about 3 years, but like everything else he does, he is a man and doesn't think farther than the end of his nose. The thing is L shaped and HUGE and takes up most of the room. It also cost a fortune, but now we have to dismantle it to get it out of the room so it will be kindling! Sheesh!

Well, I need to start on my first glass of water and get on the treadmill so I can get my workout done for the day. I have upstairs bathrooms to clean today so want to get to it!

have a great day

Faye :)

SuGyong 04-27-2006 08:24 AM

Pumkin color? ewww! My family is mostly Army (though dad's a Marine), but my sister broke tradition and went Air Force. :) I think I'm the only one who escaped the military life.

About Julie going AWOL (since we're talking in military terms) I tried to contact her position and get a debriefing on the situation on her front, but she seems to be MIA. I may have to send in reinforcements soon if we don't hear from her soon. :D

Seriously, though, i gave her a call, but they were out. I remember her mentioning that they have a situation that looks precarious for this summer, so I don't know if it's come to a head or something. I hope they're ok.

I actually had a 4 point day yesterday! That's right, I finally.... gasp... Drank My Water!!! LOL

gma22 04-27-2006 08:56 AM

LeeAnn: Thanks for the update about Julie. I know she is busy with the writing and such now and hope all is ok with them also. You may not know since you are a "newer" member, but my dh is a 20 year veteran of the Navy and that is why I said what I did. The saying is, "You can take the man out of the Navy, but you can't take the Navy out of the man." Jack is not as bad as most unless he is around someone who was in the Navy or in the service, but though he doesn't miss it (at least he SAYS he doesn't) I know he has a real fondness for it and he will watch the boring military channel until I want to upchuck, collects military movies like they were going out of style and will watch John Wayne in some military picture over and over. He has some military memoribilia in his office including a flag box with all his medals and a flag that flew over the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor. Actually, the gray and the navy colors are very nice and look like a man's room. He can pretend he is back on an aircraft carrier that way..... I can't believe all those guys on ships aren't all on depression medicine. The whole ship is painted GRAY! How depressing! We went on a "cruise" on the USS Kennedy years ago that took us out into the Atlantic for the day. I freaked out when my son wanted to sit with his legs hanging over the side and standing on the flight deck made me have vertigo and I had to go below. The "shop" my husband supervised was full of computerized equipment and kept at 65 degrees at all times! BRRRRR, it was freezing to sit in there with him. I have to say, they do FEED the guys pretty well. We had pretty good food, but the stairs are so narrow, I could never get my big behind down them nowadays. The "heads" are teeny weeny too. The ships are much much bigger now so they have stuff like computers etc they didn't have when Jack was in. We had to use good ole snail mail. I think how less lonely the kids and I and he would have been if we could have emailed everyday and sent pics to each other etc. I would sometimes go for a couple weeks with no letter then get 6 all at once. I hated it to tell you the truth because Jack and I have always been joined at the hip so to speak. We weathered it all though and came out ok. It scarred the kids a bit, but it is a tough life with little reward and little pay.

I popped the circuit breaker doing my workout today! Must have been good! Actually, the condo has antiquated wiring that was been updated a year ago, but just enough to make it safe so you can't have too many things going at the same time and I guess I had too many lights etc on when I got on the treadmill. At least THAT is done for the day.

Oh and LeeAnn, the kids pics are sooooo cute!

Have to go and get some work done.

Faye;)

Only 2 points yesterday. Went to IHOP after my husband's doctor's appointment (his choice) and I surcumbed to 1 piece of Stuffed French toast with strawberries...and popcorn last night. Not too bad, but not what I had planned.

I'm waiting for the Nurse Practioner to call me now. Since the Ultrasound was an emergency one, Dr. wasn't even in the office but came in last night and intrepreted it. She is supposed to call me after she talks to him when he gets out of surgery and let me know if the bypass in his leg is a go or not and when it will be done or what will be done. If she doesn't call today, I have to take him to renal dr. tomorrow right across the hall and I will camp out until they tell me something. I've pretty much prepared myself that they will have to amputate his leg, hopefully below the knee. His foot is deteriorating alarmingly.

Faye, you know we all have to work out what we can life with as far as a diet plan goes. You do what works for you...

Lee Ann - hooray - good going - great job - keep drinking...water that is. It's good for you!

Amanda?

Julie?

POINTS:

Susan :dancer:

Susan: We will continue to pray for your husband and hope for the best. Just remember that losing his leg or foot is better than losing his life. My mom had diabetes and long story short died because she wasn't taken care of properly. My step father wouldn't allow the doctor to tell her that she needed an amputation and threatened all us kids not to tell her. Now you know I don't take well to being threatened so I told her that she really needed to look after herself and that if things got worse it was possible she might lose her foot, did she understand that and she said, yes. She died two weeks later of diabetic complications. So, I DO know what you are going through and I will pray hard that things will work out and your hubby will get better no matter what has to happen one way or another! :grouphug: To you from all of us here! We are here if you need us and I am only an email away!

QuilterInVA 04-28-2006 01:29 PM

Going to a quilt show in another city. My girlfriend and I had directions from MapQuest and for some reason they took us through a miles and miles of back roads way out in the country where there was no place or no one to ask for directions. We eventually got there. Going back, we found it was only 1 mile from I-64 if they had taken us correctly.

DH is being scheduled for surgery. Waiting for date and time. This practice is so big (over 30 mds) they have separate groups to do everything so I have to get the surgery scheduling group to call me back. I'm about ready to start calling them every 15 minutes. I've already waited 4 hours since I last called, when they told me someone would call me right back.

gma22 04-29-2006 06:45 AM

POINTS:

Faye :dancer:

Good morning ladies. I had some chocolate raspberry truffle ice cream as a treat last night so I was over my fat so only 2, but I am going to get on the treadmill in just a few minutes and walk some of it off.

Susan: I hope you can get the surgery situation sorted out with your husband. I know that it can be trying when you can't get answers from doctors. We have had a situation for almost 2 months and it isn't my husband's cardiologist, it is the company that supplies his drugs through the mail. Our co-pay is $9 for brand name drugs and Jack takes Accupril. The beginning of this year, this drug went to a "non-formulary" status and as such the co-pay went to $22. We needed to have his dr send a medical necessity form indicating he wanted him to remain on this drug as a medical necessity or he could be put on one of the generic drugs listed on the forms. My cardiologist faxed the form FOUR times within 6 weeks and I kept contacting Express Scripts and they kept saying they never received it. Finally, I got mad, the nurse got mad, she faxed with a note saying she wanted to be called when they received it and I sent a nasty email to them. Between the two of us, we got them to put him on a lifetime status at $9 for the drug, BUT I ordered the drug and it got here yesterday and they charged my Credit Card $22 so I had to go around with them again. Supposedly they are submitting a credit to either my credit card or to Jack's account so that when I order his next two meds next week they will just take the $13 off of it. It was unbelievable so I sure hope you finally got an answer so he can get well.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Faye :)

Hi guys,

Just popping in to report on my whereabouts!

I am feeling alot better - had my monthly counselling session last week which helped me, bought a new top from a charity shop which looks really pretty and went out on saturday night and had fun AND got chatted up by the taxi driver on the way home! All these things have helped me to feel a bit better about myself!

I am very busy today - have a tonne of college work to do before my assessment tomorrow, and am hoping to get to the gym this evening.

SUSAN - I agree with Faye - losing his leg is obviously the last resort, but it might just turn him around and set him on the road to recovery. I will keep you both in my prayers - stay positive (says me, the chronic depressive! )

FAYE - Hope you are doing okay!

CARRI - Yes, I am on meds - I was on a high dose and recently reduced them to a 'normal' dose - so my mood has been a bit unsettled since then. I dream of the day when I can be drug free, and am annoyed that even lowering them slightly can set me off on one. Oh well, I'd rather take the drigs and be stable than be off meds and despairing and suicidal!

Have a nice day all

Love Amanda x

QuilterInVA 05-01-2006 03:42 PM

Hi, ladies. Still waiting to hear when my husband's surgery will be. They are trying to get emergency approval from the insurance.

A new month...let's all keep working towards our July goal.:carrot:

Mirabelly 05-02-2006 06:06 AM

Hi everyone,
Gosh, I had no idea I've been gone so long! I spent this past weekend (Thurs - sun) at a writing conference in NYC. I met with editors and agents and writers and schmoozed and ate and ate. I think my career is headed in a whole new direction--or will be soon. Lots of positive meetings. I spent the couple weeks before the conference finishing up deadlines and preparing for the city. And it's May, which means there are a hundred things the kids have to do at school.

So that's part of why I haven't been here. The other, as you probably guessed, is that I totally crashed the diet wagon :dizzy: I don't think I've had a good day with eating and exercise in like 6 weeks!!! I'm afraid to weigh myself, cuz I know I'm like 10 pounds heavier, at least. I'm not sure what to do about it, but I'm back here, so that's a start.

I hope everyone is chugging along famously in my absence--

TTFN,
Julie

gma22 05-02-2006 06:25 AM

TUESDAY: Today is Target Tuesday and our target this week is sweets and desserts. Just because we are trying to lose weight does not mean we have to totally deprive ourselves. Once in awhile have yourself a small treat. There are lots of ff or sugar free products on the market to tame your sweet tooth. Just remember that they are a treat for once in awhile.

Susan: Hope you hear some good news for your husband soon!

Julie: Well, I think we have a stranger in our midsts.... It is great too see you again!

Amanda: Ok, you are feeling better now, so let's jump back on the bandwagon and get going again so you can start taking those lbs off again!

Carri: Good morning to you!

LeeAnn: Hope all is well with you also!

Everyone have a good day

Faye ;)

cwneeds2lose 05-02-2006 08:44 AM

I love your forum. May I join you?

gma22 05-02-2006 09:07 AM

CW: ABSOLUTELY! We are always looking for new ladies to join us. If you look at the first post on the thread, you will see the topics for the day, our points system, etc. So just hop right in and join in on the points. I try to get in here earlier than everyone everyday to set up the topic and do points for the previous day. Sometimes I have an early bird that beats me, but not often. Tell us a little about yourself! Where do you live in CA? We lived in San Diego years and years ago and my sister and most of her kids live in Southern CA.

I am 52, have two grown kids, Jack, who is 32 and Kelly, who is 28. I have a grandson, Thomas (my avatar) who will be 6 next month and is in kindergarten. I have been married 33 years to a scrumptious man and we live in Memphis, Tn having traveled all over when my dh spent 20 years in the Navy. He now works for the City of Memphis as an electrician. I am a stay at homer having left my job 4 years ago.

We have married ladies, singles, some with kids, some not and I am the only "nonny" (my grandson's name for me.)

Ah Yeah. I'm a 52 year old plumber. I like tequilas and walking in the rain.....

Ok, that's enough of that. Ha ha!
I'm Lee Ann. I'm married with 2 girls (3 and 1). I play violin, do martial arts, but 95% of my time is spent Picking Up After My Kids and Husband!!!! Heh heh.

BTW ladies.. I got 3 points yesterday. Water.. yuck! I'm just going to start chugging it all at once first thing in the morning to get it over with. :)

I'm Susan - 64, full time job and sole caregiver for a disabled husband. No children, but one spoiled cat. I love to read and quilt.

Ladies, my husband's bypass (left leg) is scheduled for Friday, May 12. He will be in the hospital at least 5 days. His surgeon is having surgery himself on the 11th so another surgeon from the practice will be doing the operation.
I'll be so glad to get this over.

We are changing internet providers at work, so expect some problems tomorrow and may not get to check in.

4 points for yesterday.

cwneeds2lose 05-03-2006 01:15 AM

Thank you ladies for the warm welcome. I live in central california. I'm 44 years young. I've been married to my best friend for 16 years. We have two kids. My son is 23. He is a firefighter in our town. My daughter is 14, and she's a competitive cheerleader and hip hop dancer. I also have a beautiful 18 month old granddaughter. I'm now a stay home mom (after working the same job for 18 years) with a wonderful home-based as an Arbonne Indpendent Consultant. I also babysit my granddaughter about a few times a month, as firefighter hours are great and allow him to spend plenty of time with his daughter.

As far as my weight loss, I've lost and found (uuuggghhh) the same weight a million times. I'm really having a hard time changing my ugly weight gaining habits with healthy ones. Unfortunately I lost control the last year or so, and I'm now disgusted with myself for having done that. Anyway, I've decided to work on one bad habit at a time. This week is no sugar. So far for so good. When I've master that one, I'll move on the getting rid of Diet Pepsi, and drinking more water.

Susan, I will pray for you and your husband.

Thanks again everyone for the warm welcome. I so look forward to making some new friends.

Mirabelly 05-03-2006 07:18 AM

Hi everyone...see I'm still here ;)

1 point for exercise yesterday...I'm just starting from scratch. I did weigh myself yesterday, and after a month of eating total crap--I actually only gained a few pounds (Thank goodness!). I'm back up to 212, though. Gotta get back on the wagon.

Welcome CW! I'm a stay at home mom of 3 (7,10 & 12) in Maine. I'm also a professional nonfiction writer and editor. That's a part time gig right now, but I'm working on building the business this year. I've been part of this group for --sheesh, must be 3 years now? I lost 50 pounds two years ago just by following Faye's points system and relying on the support here. SO, you can do it! I still have over 50 to lose, and that has been the hard part.

Susan, you and your husband are in my heart and mind. Take care of yourself!

Everyone else--HI!!

CW: I would love to sit for my grandson some, but his other grandparents, who are both retired, live across the street so they take care of him all the time. I don't see him as much as I like, but we try to make up for it when we do see him. Look at it this way, at least you don't have to wean yourself of full sugar soda. I have done that twice and it is murder. If you like sweets etc, try substituting sugar free stuff. For example, I now use sugar free syrup on my oatmeal instead of sugar or even Splenda. It is a good oomph to my oatmeal! I know those who propose a no white diet, but I can't live life that way. Those who can are more fortunate I guess. The one bad thing at a time is a good way to go about it!

Julie: You work too hard now girl. Have you given up the skating for the summer months? I do hope your writing takes off though.

Susan: Thank goodness he is finally getting into surgery. Now, are they amputating or is this to try and save the leg with more artery replacement or whatever it was he had done before?

**Let's all be sure and include Susan and her hubby in our prayers this week and next.**

I am rolling right along again with my program. I have to say I am pretty sore between my regular daily house cleaning, my treadmill and weights workouts and the painting. I am doing the very last of the painting today then we are done with the room. It looks so nice.

Everyone have a super day!

Faye:)

What Julie didn't mention is that she's also a very fantastic fiction writer, too! Make sure you're in on her "proof reading" team when she DOES write more!!! :D

Julie- Glad to see you back! We were getting worried about you.

Susan- YAY! They're finally getting to it! Bet your man is just going to LOVE wearing the hose when they send him home. Very macho. LOL! :)

CW- 23 and 14? So you had built in babysitting. Some friends of mine did the same thing. Theirs are 14, 12, and 1. Their two oldest love it. *smiles*

Anyhow, I have started it. I chugged all of my water for the day first thing this morning. Now I know I have it done, anyway. And no picking on me about drinking it Throughout the day... at least I'm drinking it. :)

Let's see.. yesterday was so fractured.. I got 3 for sure, but I think I only drank a little water. So I'll say 3 points for me.

Wedsnesday's Woe- Oh Woe is me! I'm doing free daycare for a friend of mine in return for babysitting whenever Dave and I want to go out. She's backed out of it two weeks in a row now. First she said she was busy all Saturday morning and was so pooped out. The second/last time, she just didn't show up at all. No phone call, she says she forgot. We're only asking for a Saturday night like once every couple of months. If this keeps up, I'm going to either start charging her or stop babysitting for her.

Morning All - had a 3 pointer yesterday AND I am finally wearing a pair of pants to work today that I have not been able to get into for a while :carrot: I couldn't go eat a buffet in them but hey they are zipped :D

Welcome CW - I am 32 years old, married to my high school sweetheart for 12 years, no kids, one doggie Les, work at an insurance company. Hobbies include reading, watching TV, and counting calories... ha ha ... I follow the WW points system ... I have lost over 50 pounds in the last couple of years by doing that plan...got about 60 more sadly.

Susan - Hope all goes well with Dh on Friday

Julie - So glad to hear from you ... you didn't gain that much , you can get that back off easily.

AManda - Hi !!!:D

Lee - I also like walks in the rain, ha :dizzy: that was a good one ... I wouldnt put up with being taken advantage of much longer with the sitter ...
she needs to hold up her end of the bargain as well ...

Faye - Congrats on sticking to your plan, I see you have changed your weight on the signature ,,, so things are going well for you .... great job!!!

I really do not have a Weds woe which I guess is good right? Well hope you all have a great OP day !!!!

Later!!

QuilterInVA 05-03-2006 11:58 AM

Thanks, ladies for your concern. It means a lot.

Faye, they are doing a bypass of the artery in his leg since the 5 stents they put in clogged up immediately and they don't know why. They have to bypass clear down to his ankle and the concern was there might not be enough artery left to hook into but there is. When they did the mapping, the doctor said he only has about 20% circulation in that leg at this point.

I had 4 points yesterday. I'm trying to be very careful until he goes into the hospital because the hospital has good food in the cafeteria but they also have killer macaroni and cheese that keeps crawling up onto my tray when I'm not looking. I usually get supper there and if he's allowed to eat I take it back and eat with him, otherwise eat in the cafeteria. It's that or be eating at 10 o'clock at night which I definitely don't want to do.

Carri: Yahoo for you and the pants. They will soon fit a bit more loose I am sure. Just keep up the good work.

LeeAnn: I know a lot of people who don't like to drink water. It IS best to drink it throughout the day, but if you really can't manage it, do what you can.

Have a really good day everyone.

Hello everyone,

I have 2 points for Tuesday, and 2 pts. for yesterday. I'm still having trouble with exercise. making every excuse I can, and before I know it, it's too late (or so I tell myself). Anyway, I hope you all have a blessed day.

SuGyong 05-04-2006 04:12 PM

Hey girls!

Let's see.. I think I got ... like 1 point today. It's been pretty bad. I didn't go off program too badly, but I definitely did. I'm up one pound because of it.

Something funny.. Tuesday I played my violin SO badly that my instructor Took It Away! Really! I came home violin-less!

Apparently my technique is good and my playing is ok, but I'm using synthetic hair in the bow (wic), my strings are about 8 years too old (also wic), and my bridge is holding my strings too high off of the instrument so I have to work harder to get the right notes (also also wic). (Sorry.. was watching Monty Python's Holy Grail today :) )

So I'm waiting for it to be fixed and returned to me today. I can't WAIT wo see how I do with it!

Luv ya ladies, but we're off to a party tonight (no food...thank Heavens)

Hello folks,

First, I must just say - 25lb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Faye - you are on fire! Wowsa! Don't worry CW, we don't expect those sorts of losses every week, the rest of us are happy with our 1or 2 lb!

I am gradually making changes towards getting back OP - now the beautiful sunny weather is here I feel alot more positive about eating healthy and I stocked up on lovely salad ingredients. Today I've taken some time to sit down and plan some menu's - so I'm starting again fully on Monday. This war weather always encourages healthy eating I think - lots of fruit and salad. I just have to make sure I keep away from the ice cream!

I did my hip in again on the treadmill last Weds - I ran again which felt great for a few minutes, but now my hip is painful even 9 days later! I really need to see a physio about it, my doctor didn't really have much to say about it. I didn't feel up to a full on aerobics class today, so I went for a nice gentle swim, then sat in the hydrotherapy pool which was lovely. My hip didn't hurt at all while I was swimming - but it hurt on the walk home.

FAYE - Congrats on the Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge loss - you are obviously working hard and starting to reap the benefits!

SUSAN - I will keep you both in my prayers - hope your dh stays strong and well for the surgery. You are doing so well to stay OP during this stressful time - you are an inspiration to us all!

CW - Welcome to our little group - it's nice to have a new face here! I am Amanda, I am 33 years old and am currently unable to work due to ill health (depression). I live in Sheffield in the north of England. I am currently studying a part time course in IT, and I also love reading, going to the gym (honestly, I really do!), comedy and my cat! I have also lost 50lb since Jan last year - but have stalled now and haven't lost anything all Winter! But now I am going to get that weight shifting again.

JULIE - We are so similar in our dieting patterns! We both lost 50lb pretty straightforwardly, then we both stalled for months and are now having trouble regaining our weight loss 'mojo', and we both love exercise, but struggle with our food!

CARRI - Congrats on getting into your trousers - you are slimming down all the time! Are you still going to the gym?

LEE - How are you going to work harder at getting the right notes if she's taken your violin away??

Have a good day

Love Amanda x

Just popping in to say hi to Faye!

I am gearing myself up to re starting my plan tomorrow. Walked to the supermarket yesterday and bought in more salad, fruit and fat free yoghurt - so it's fruit and yoghurt for breakfast tomorrow! The sun has gone now and it's gloomy and rainy again - typical! I need the summer weather to inspire me to eat light and healthy foods!

Love Amanda x

Hi ladies.. so a large "Hot n Ready" pizza went down my gullet between yesterday and this morning (Yes, Julie, it was a darn fine breakfast!). So I'm very much off the wagon today. *sigh*

AND up another pound. On top of it all, I haven't eaten anything else today and am now starving!! So it's going to take some willpower to not overdo it just because my stomach is growling so hard.

Let's see. We're gearing up to head to New Brunswick for Mother's Day. Apparently Mother's Day means "The Day That Moms Work Harder to Show They Know Their Family Loves Them". :) Boy, if someone would have told me that BEFORE I had kids, I may have put it off a bit longer. Ha ha!

What else. I just got back from church and realized that I had peanut butter handprints all over my dark red shirt all through service. No wonder I kept getting smiles and comments about my kids loving me. I thought it was just about Mother's Day next weekend.

So, back on the wagon for me.

-Lee Ann
