I'm New Today and 51
Hi everyone! Today is my 1st day finding this site and I need support urgently! I turned 51 last month, and I've been overweight for about 10 yrs. When I turned 40 yrs, my weight has gone from 140-now 219. I'm short, only 5 ft, and so this weight is really bad for me. I've tried so many diets over the last 10 yrs, and can't seem to stick to anything. For right now I just need support mostly - I cant seem to get past day 1 of any diet I choose. I'm hoping with support from you all and daily posting I can find some committment to diet and exercise. I have a heart problem, cholesterol problem, and obviously the excess weight is affecting my life style. My sister died at 45 and my father at 54 both of 1st heart attacks. My doctor says lose the weight or prepare my funeral. Yikes!! I am starting again tomorrow with exercise and just making a promise to eat healthier. Any suggestions and all support will be greatly appreciated. Sorry for being so wordy!

Hi Shortrich! :welcome: Glad to have you here and glad you found the site! It's a great source of support and encouragement and you will find many of us here who understand and share your concerns. Just jump in anywhere... there are a lot of challenge threads or accountability for walking, exercise, diet or whatever appeals to you. You don't have to do a "lot" to join in... some people are just starting out and some have made their goal and are maintainers! But we are all a team and you are most welcome!
And Jill... yes! I feel so good today from all the exercise! Just have to keep it up!!! I see you are going on a Princess cruise in October. Mine is coming up pretty quickly to Alaska. Not time to get in shape really but doing all I can!!! ~4~joy |
Going to make it a good day. Getting a bit discouraged as the scale has moved up the past few days. I don't know if it's water retention or my body's acting up again.
I panic quickly due to the fact that before I was diagnosed Insulin Resistant, it took 18 months of constant effort to lose 12 pounds. The minute the scale doesn't move forward, or quits moving, I start getting those old feelings again. But, today, I'm pressing forward disregarding the scale. I have no choice. To not exercise or eat healthily is no longer an option for me. I have to lose this weight. I have to get my sugar in line. I just hope my body agrees! Have a great day ladies! Susan |
hi
Good morning gang, I've been absent for a few days. I had to work the weekend and was sick with that stomach virus Sunday night and yesterday. I'm feeling a little better today. Everyone else in the family has had it and I thought I was going to get away with not getting it! The good news, I got on the scale this morning and i only need 1 more lb. to be at goal weight! I know it's probaly due to dehydration but I'm hoping it doesn't come back!
:welcome3: Short, Glad you found us. I know it's hard to get started on any diet and exercise plan (and they do go together) but it's much easier with a good support system and you've found it here. Visit often and post and let us know how you're doing and what we can do to help! :bravo: :cheer: to bonnie, Gail, Hy and Cheryl for being BIG LOOSERS! keep up the good work! Bonnie, You're almost there to "onederland"! Gail, You're up and going again! Just remember how good it feels to "loose". Cheryl, What can I say! You've met every goal you'e set for yourself, early! You are such an inspiration! And you'e going to look "HOT" with that new hair color! It's time to get mine colored too, too much grey showing. I'm getting blonder and blonder trying to cover it with streaks! Jill, You're such a good advertisement for the Gazell Tony should have you on his commercial! I hope you enjoy the weights too. I really like them. I don't want flabby "grandma" arms either! And a lot of women do lower body exercise and neglect the upper body, which is weak any way in most women. Dance, Glad to hear that you had such a good exercise weekend. It becomes a habit, doesn't it. I miss it when I can't execise! Yorkie, Sorry to hear that you sprianed your ankel. Hope it's feeling better! Remember RICE! The pictures of your beach are beautiful! Hy, Hope that achilles tendon is doing better! The weight training will keep you going intill you can get back on your feet! Susan, I'm so glad to hear that you're determined to go forward no matter what that scale says. Even if you don't lose weight for awhile just try to remember that evey day you exercise and eat right your body is getting healthier. And the weight loss will come! Just hang in there! Everyone, go make it a good day! Freda |
Hi gang . . . Sorry I didn't give you your morning wake-up today. But here I am now. Our weather is not as bad as predicted. Dull and windy, but no snow, ice, or rain . . . yet.
Jill . . . I remember when my first granddaughter was born and my son asked what they should call me . . . Grandma or Granny. I told him I was not ready for either one. Ten years later . . . they can call me anything they like as long as they don't forget me. But just because we "are" doesn't mean we want to look the part. :D Shortrich . . . You've found the right place, girl. This is a great site. There's so much going on all over, all the time. Here's a big  for you. Hope we'll be seeing less of you lots more often. ;) Dance . . . Hi to you, too. Your comments are right on as usual. :) Susan . . . take it from the resident diabetic . . . it is not easy! But together with all our 3FC friends we can do it. Keep moving forward and you can beat it before you need all the medications I have to take. Hang in there, girl. Here's a big dose of :dust: Freda . . . we missed you. You must feel great to be sooooo close to goal. Can hardly wait to celebrate your victory with you. :woo: I spent most of the day checking out the various sites like FitDay, Nutridiary, and a few others. I'm thinking about changing from my little homemade Excel program. Would greatly appreciate any comments/recommendations from all of you. :^: I'm starting to get confused. Just before I came here to post, I checked out the info on 1/2 cup broccoli on three different programs and got three different answers. :dizzy: They were all close . . . but it's a little vegetable . . . shouldn't they be the same? Anyway, see you soon. Keep doing all the right stuff and the rewards will follow. :carrot: |
I have missed you all thanks for the link!!!! You have been found!

Day 1 I just researched and Day 2 I've decided what I want to do for diet and exercise. I'm going to make healthier choices diet wise, but also only eat 3 meals and 2 snacks but not eat past 730 pm. Exercise - I belong to a gym so I'm going to commit to going 3 times per week starting out and I hope to get to 5-6 times per week. I've started before going every day and I seem to wear out fast. What do u all think? I'm a grandma too but mine call me "Nana". I'm in the south but was born and raised in the North. Bonnie I'd like to get to "onederland" too, 20 lbs to go.;) Meowee that was funny...I hope u'll be seeing lots less of me too...:D Susan and Meowee...both of u r diabetics, I've been doing good on that score even though it runs in my family on both generations..I'm so thankful for that and hope u too have much success with u'r sugar levels:smug: Freda u'r almost at goal weight, way to go? Tell me u'r secret!! I have to lose 80 lbs this time, I've lost 50 in the past, but I'm scared about being able to lose 80:devil: 4Joy I think I'll stick with just u guys for now...I get distracted when I try to do lots of sites-seems like u encourage each other about everything  Most of u seem to be doing well on exercising, please call me on it if i dont talk about exercising...I have one of those jobs that makes it hard to commit to certain days, but I can commit to 3 days out of 7, probably mostly fri sat and sun for my 3 and then one day a week...:carrot: Till tomorrow... |
Hey, that's great... just go where you are comfortable! It is great that you are getting a plan! Go for it!

Going in to do the 4 mile super challenge. Love starting my day with Leslie!
Thanks all for the encouraging words. It really does help to know that we're all in this together. I've always found much support through sites such as these...whatever my struggle ( ie: quitting smoking etc. ) It makes one feel less alone and isolated in their endeavor... Make it a great day ladies! Don't let anyone or anything bring you down. It is my daily challenge...one I strive for. It can be tough some days that's for sure! lol Susan |
Wowee, Wowee, Wow, Wow . . . I finally got the scale to move again . . . another two pounds have gone to ugly-pound-heaven this morning and I love it . :goodscale
I finally figured out what was wrong with my Excel program I use to track calories, weight, blood sugar, etc. :o When I modified it to calculate calories I neglected to add back the fibre carbs. --- For tracking the glycemic impact on your diabetes you only deal with "net" carbs because fibre doesn't raise your glucose levels. --- But for tracking calories, all carbs have to be counted. Sooo, now I don't know whether to be :( because I've been understating my calories by about 12.5% and now I'll have to get used to about 200 calories less, or :) because now my rate of loss might speed up for a while. Whatever . . . nothing is worthwhile unless you have to work for it. ;) Shortrich . . . Good going, girl. Sounds like a plan has been coming together. Don't you just love it. Susan . . . doing great on the exercise, kiddo. Keep up the good work. And "ditto" on your support-related comments. I really don't know how I'd keep it going without 3FC. Well, got to get back to my stubborn little program re-write or I won't be able to track anything today. There's a  in there right now and I can't get the new calcs to cross-balance. But, I'll get him out. :s: Have a great evening, gang. Keep up the good work. Here's a little dose of :dust: to help us all make it through the night. See you tomorrow. |
:welcome: Shortrich. So glad to have you join us. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.
Susan...That's the attitude!! Stay on program, exercise and look towards reaching your goal. Freda...Sorry to hear you had that nasty stomach flu. :( WOW!! only one pound till you reach goal weight, how exciting!!! Linda...I'm doing the happy dance for you!  2 lbs YIPEEEEE!!! I'm having a teriffic week so far. Reaching my ST Paddy's goal early has really motivated me. I started working out to a couple new DVD's I bought. They are both Dance away the inches, but I like "Dance off the Inches" over Prevention "Dance It Off" Dance off the Inches is just more fun and it starts with tempo 1, then tempo 2 and finally tempo 3 for more insensity. So you are doing all three tempo's in your workout. Nothing like a little Cha Cha Cha or mambo for a workout if you like to dance, which I do.:dancer: :dancer: Well ladies, I'll try to check back later on this evening. Cheryl |
Way to go, Cheryl. Nothing could ever be more fun than doing better than expected.
Just wanted to let you all know I got my program working. So, I'm back on track with my tracking. :D |
hi
Good Morning All,
Had to work again yesterday but I have a few days off now. It was rough at work! One of the patients brought in a HUGE box of specialty cookies and another brought in canollies! This is in addition to all the candy and stuff already there! I said NO! Remember the commercial "just say no"? It wasn't easy watching every one else eat but, ya know, those things will always be there. It's not like i'll never see another cookie or canolli! So, pick your posion ladies. Choose when and where you will splurge! Meow, :cheer: A big 2 lb. loss for you! You're back in the groove! Our grandkids call us Mema and Papa. But' im with you, they can call me anything! Luflic, Glad you found us! Don't want to lose you! Short, You've decided on a plan and it sounds like a winner! That's basically what i'm doing to. I eat healthy food and portion sizes and exercise. This is something I'm going to be doing a long time and it's got to be something I can live with. I'm the oppisite of you: I was born in the south and live in the North! My secret to weight loss: Stop thinking that there is a secret!!!! Ain't so! There is no easy way. It's diet and exercise. I know we all long for a pill that will make us thin but it's our own will power that's going do it. WELL....maybe a little of Meow PIXIE DUST doesn't hurt. Cheryl, have fun with those new DVD's! Are we going to be seeing you on "Dancing with the Stars" soon? I do that with my granddaughter sometimes, just turn on the music and dance. Actually I do it for fun and to try to wear her out, but you KNOW who gets worn out! Everyone make it a good day, Freda |
Yay Freda... glad you said NO!!! Feels good, doesn't it? In fact feels MUCH better than when we say yes and go around all day wishing we hadn't!!!
