I had a STI yesterday...My friend loves to go out to eat...she always calls me to go and I always give in....Then I'm trying to find something healthy when we go...so yesterday I told her that I just couldn't go cause I need to stay on the health eating track...I'm proud of myself cause I love going out to eat and it's hard to say no but I did it..
mscat - I may have to look for the rice diet too...I think we all love rice so why don't you tell us all alittle about it on here instead.. |
The Real Hump Day!
Happy Hump Day! This is the tough part of the week because we often get week with our resolve knowing that there are still 4 days left in the week. Stay strong and revel in those STI :strong: moments - they will carry you through the rest of the week if you just choose to believe in their power.
dgpebbles - Congrats on your STI :strong: moment! Let me check my book and I will give you all some basic info on the rice diet this evening. Have a great day! |
Whohooo! I'm glad to report I stopped the insanity and met all my goals on Wednesday! :D :cheer: I did have some chocolate, but I stopped at 7 pm and didn't eat anything else.
On to Thursday! :) |
Yesterday, no good news on either challenge. I think it was my last hurrah before Feb 1 and before return to work agin. Tonight: no food after dinner, the jury's still out on bed before midnight.
This morning's scale was back down. At least until last night's carrot cake catches up... :o I'm determined to be permanently under 190 by March 1. Pebbles, good for you! Sushi, I wish I could have just a little chocolate! But I'm a real addict - it's like cigarettes, I can't have even one. (I found that out the hard way. But haven't smoked for about 14 years, and even made it through the divorce without lighting up, which certainly surprised me!) Mscat, you're doing so well - just keep on doing what you're doing. It's so encouraging to hear from someone who's found new inspiration! Thank you so much! Bedtime. |
Mornin' Ladies
It's 5:28 in the a.m. and I am up! One of the benefits of the Rice Diet is you start to feel better and generate more energy. The scale is wobbling another half pound down. Really got to break the scale addiction and get back to Monday weigh-ins.
Kudos first . . . Sushi :cheer: for meeting your goals Wednesday and :strong: for STI. carla  you will be back on track soon. :woo: for your good scale report. How's your kitty doing? Check out the reviews on "The Rice Diet Report" by Judy Moscovitz, "Heal your Heart" and the "Rice Diet Solution" on amazon - all about the diet from Dr. Kempner at Durham. Then get one of the books! I have Judy's book - hers was the first. I will give you the basics but I would not advise doing it without the book! Basically starts out as a detox program in the first phases. Cleanses the body of all toxins - there is no salt, sugar, spices, condiments, meat, dairy, flour, caffiene . . . Need I say more? It is tough - but guarantees immediate, healthy results. After you have survived the initial phases (and lost tons of weight) the next phases introduce other foods to your system slowly so that you learn to eat regularly, healthy and sensibly. The object is to retrain your body, mind, and metabolism so that you don't gain your weight back by binging on all the food your body has been denied which often happens following other restrictive diets. Because the first phases are full of natural foods, you can - have to eat a lot and regularly to maintain your calorie intake. Imagine, a diet that requires you eat regularly and often to stay healthy and lose weight. What a concept. Phase I - Rice, rice by-products (puffed rice, shredded wheat), specific quantities of fruit. Phase II - add tomatoes and tomato sauce w/green peppers and onions(home-made recipe, of course) - you can use lemon juice to sautee and as a garnish (Wow);) Phase III - add specific quantities of vegetables. Ooooo - you can have white vinegar here too!:) Phase IV - add specific proteins, Phase V - Starches, grains, and eggs, Phase VI - is all the information in the books about maintainence. The goal is to stay on each phase for as long as you can stand it but no less than a week. The first time I went on this diet many years ago, I lost 30 lbs in about 6 weeks. I was healthly, felt good. I got cocky and just stopped cold turkey - not finishing the diet through the maintenance stage. The results I am experiencing now are amazing - so much so I am thinking about going back to phase 1 (I skipped 1 and 2 and went right to 3 because I didn't think I could realistically stick to it). Let me know if you have any other questions and have a great day. mscat- All that we have is right now. Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is not promised, and Someday is not a day of the week! |
Goals met on Thursday as well! :cheer:
Mscat, thank you for the info on the rice diet. Sounds good!!! I checked the local library, no books unfortunately. I'll try searching online... do you think it would work at all to do just Phase 1 for one or two weeks? I'm going for a 3 week camping trip in March, and I doubt I could stick with it then. And realistically speaking, it will be hard for me to try the diet until late April or even until I'm back in Canada - and by then I shall hopefully not need it! |
hi ladies!
Yep Sushi - it is a great way to jump start a diet and get those first few inspirational pounds lost even if you don't go all the way. The one concern with not continuing is your body will revolt if you eat rice and fruit for two weeks and then - BOOM! add all kinds of other foods in while you are on vacation. This is a diet where you pay when you cheat ;)
I would suggest doing phase 2 and then 3 within the two weeks before - and then add a serving of protein (fish and chicken) a day a couple of days before you leave. You will still lose weight for your trip - just not as much as you would or as fast as you would if you start with phase 1. However, I think I remember that you are a vegetarian - if that is so then, don't worry about the fish and meat! You will be fine. PM me if you can't get a hold of the book on time. Bonnie - you are right - it is the toughest diet I ever tried (and I have tried many) but it gave me the best pay-off for my sacrifice. And as a result of reading the book and understanding the basis of the diet - I totally gave up salting my food :carrot: I have not salted my food in over 15 years! Have a great evening ladies! |
Yikes, Mscat, no salt at all? I'd rather give up sex! (Hmmm. Wait a minute. I've already kind of done that.) I've had no luck finding the book yet either - nothing in the public library. And I'm not sure I could do the rice/tomato bit anyway.
Sushi, back to Canada? Are you one of us? I had no idea! Yesterday I succeeded in both the no food after dinner and the in bed by 12 (actually 12:12 - I got involved in a book and missed the deadline. But I'm counting it as a success anyway). Today I've been food free after dinner except for a carrot which I allow myself. And I can still have a decaf coffee if I want. I'm contemplating signing up for a 4 week, 3 x per week early morning spinning/fitness boot camp. Waiting to see if there's a space, and wondering if I can actually work out at 5:45 am. Or if I can get up at 5, for that matter. But if it happens, I fully expect to see some shrinkage... |
Just came home after a long walk with a run. And lo and behold, we saw not one, not two, but three kangaroos up close - very close! They were standing in the grass, majestically motionless and looking at us. :D Add to that quite a few horses, one of which came to the fence when it saw us, two owls sitting on telephone wire right above our heads, and the two dogs that befriended us... Makes for a lovely evening. :)
And I had no coffee today! :cheer: I did have a bit too much of chocolate, but not much longer, so that's ok. And I'm tired, so I know I'll be in bed on time, so looks like Friday is a success. :) Oh, and Carla, I'm not quite really one of you Canucks. :p Just live there when I'm not travelling. |
morning everyone....I'm having a great Feb...I've stayed on track with my eating and I've uped my exercise....my goal for Feb is to do 1000 minutes of exercise and so far I'm at 120 min...
|
Instead of stopping the insanity, I've gone and embraced it: I start my very early morning boot camp on Monday. Looking forward to it, sort of.
Last night missed the midnight cut off by 6 minutes, but was still wide awake and thinking dark thoughts at 1, so read for a while and finally took some sleep aids which must have worked, because I vaguely remember waking up. Today work finished mercifully early, so I got home in plenty of time to rest a bit before spin class. I'm getting quite peeved about my spin class. They blast the music so loud I feel like I'm being assaulted. And worrying about the potential damage to my hearing (and my career) is a real buzz kill. So if the spinning's okay at the boot camp place, I may just switch over entirely. Am I just too old to want to be blasted like that? Today I'm good on the no food after dinner challenge, and hope to make the midnight sleep deadline. 65 minutes left to wash up and finish my book. Working again tomorrow, but I lucked into a late start, and I think it may finish early, so that's all good. I don't really mind working right now: I've been browsing kitchen reno mags, and keep spotting costly and wonderful bits and pieces. so the cheques will be welcome when they finally dribble in... Sleep tight, my dears! |
Saturday good, Sunday almost good - just need to make it to bed by 10:30 pm.
I don't expect to see any movement on the scale this week, so it's time to stop the insanity and put the chocolate away if I want to meet my mid-February goal. I'll decide upon my specific challenges tomorrow morning. :) |
Morning everyone...so far feb has been great...I've got in 220 minutes of exercise so far and have been doing crunches everyday also...eating is great...I can't wait for weigh-in tomorrow...
How is everyone else doing? I hope with this site being down that everyone got up and moving.. |
Night Ladies
How is everyone doing? I have had a rough weekend - too much temptation! We had a superbowl party at work on Friday and I ordered pizza with everyone else. While I was serving up my seafood pizza I realized I could have just ordered salad like some other good little girls :tantrum: I only had one piece - still a sacrelidge when you are on the rice diet.
Saturday was an okay day and Sunday I managed to get in a 20 minute workout on the treadmill. I think my weight is holding but don't think I experienced a loss. We'll see on weigh-in day Monday a.m. carla :carrot: you go girl with your boot camp in the a.m. dgpebbles :carrot: for your progress toward your exercise goal. Sushi - how awesome about the kangas! My DD sited a deer in our yard. It has been over a year since we have seen one. We live in a secluded, slightly wooded street in the inner city and the closest wooded area is a separated by the interstate and a few miles of residential areas and streets. So it is also a rare miracle to see them on our street. Have a great evening and looking forward to our weigh-in in the a.m. |
