STOP THE INSANITY! Weekly Challenge #2

The object of this thread is to STOP THE INSANITY! of doing the same thing week in and week out to lose weight, expecting different results, and not getting them! We invite you to challenge yourself to establish a new weight loss ACTION each week and repeat it for 7 days straight. Choose whatever inspires you and will make a difference in your weight loss goal - a certain amount of water intake each day, no sweets, a certain amount or kind of exercise a day, etc.

If you don't master the action - take it on another week. Once you have mastered the action, continue that challenge but if you are not losing weight (or inches) STOP THE INSANITY! and up the anty on that goal or take on another. We will weigh in and declare our challenge(s) for the week each Monday. I will award kudos for each day you report success and at the end of the week for total pounds lost.

We will support each other by staying focussed on our successes and/or challenges of the day and week and keep our personal stories to a minimum.

Let's see how much we can lose by Valentine's Day!

mscat-
All that we have is right now.
Yesterday is gone, Tomorrow is not promised, and Someday is not a day of the week!

dgpebbles 01-09-2006 09:48 AM

morning Ladies...well I'm down 1lb...I think I'm gaining leg muscle from riding bike which is one reason my loss in low....my goal for this week is to ride bike 6 days and add at least 3 days of weight training..I would like to lose 2lbs this week...

How are all of my other friends here doing?

Good luck everyone

phatpanda 01-09-2006 10:31 AM

well...considering that i only did my exercise tape for half of the week and then over the weekend went downhill on what i was eating...the fact that i went down 1 lb makes me happy:)

although, now i need really start pushing myself! i've decided to take my LSAT's this year so to motivate me on multiple levels and make sure i don't use "studying" as an excuse to not workout and stay active, this week my EXTREME challenge is for every 2 hours I study, I will exercise 30 mins that day! I would like to do this at least 4/7 this week! whew! i am definitely going to need some support on this ladies. but the LSAT's are on 6/12 and my birthday is 6/13!!! I would love to ROCK the test AND feel and look amazing on my birthday!!! so with this double incentive I am really going to try hard to push myself and stay disciplined!

Just as a general comment, I must say I really do appreciate all the honesty that is on this thread and just reading how you ladies are doing keeps me going...best of luck to everyone on their challenge this week!!:D

CindiRella 01-09-2006 11:29 AM

I lost 2 pounds, which could be worse considering.

I am kinda blah...I got NOTHING for my birthday yesterday. I am trying to not let it bother me, I am 39, not 10...but nothing? This is a time I could let food be my friend, but I am hoping that you all will fill that gap. My birthday is the same day every year...they knew it was coming. My step son whose birthday was the day before sure didn't get forgotten, but of course that was my doing. Sorry for whining, I'll move on now:(

WTG on the Onderland, Bonnie!!

WTG on losing 1 pound to Donna and Phatpanda!

I am going to continue to increase my exercise and that is the only goal I have at this point. I have been attempting to run my stairs, there are 12 stairs to my basement and I have been running them twice each time I go get laundry! They are kinda steep, too. I will add another run as this becomes easier. I want to go to the gym 3 times this week as well. I hope this week goes better than last!

Let's have a great week, ladies!!!!:carrot:

carla49 01-09-2006 12:08 PM

Cindi, I don't care if you're 39 or 99, it's not right to get zip on your birthday. And it's not like you're living alone on a desert island with cats who have no pocket money... I think when you're in a calm mood, you might want to make it clear to EVERYONE that you deserve and expect to be treated with respect and consideration, and that even if diamonds are out of the question, a single red rose and a candlelit dinner (for instance) would show that you are loved and appreciated. Maybe that could be your birthday gift to yourself, a demand for the respect you deserve. I'll get off my :soap: now. It just makes my blood boil to see these little acts of cruelty and selfishness. How's about a :grouphug: from your sisters here at Insanity central? (Sorry - make that Stop the Insanity ..

Congrats to all on pounds lost. I forgot to mention mine - 2.5 lbs, but that's over two weeks, I think.

acire 01-09-2006 04:42 PM

Excited!!!

I'm down 3.6 pounds from 215 to 211.4. Woot!!:carrot:
I'm definitely gonna keep doing what I'm doing. Only 11.5 to go to be in Onederland!!

Sushi Penguin 01-09-2006 04:46 PM

I'm up over 2 pounds!!! Eeek! Whyyyyyyyyyy?
Could being very very very tired and not getting enough sleep make you weigh more...?

Not much time again, so just posting my challenge for this week quickly:
no food after 7 pm and to be in bed by 10:30 pm with lights off.

On Monday food was good, but I could not get to sleep until 2 am or so. :(

mscat816 01-09-2006 04:49 PM

Soon2BFitChick 01-09-2006 06:51 PM

Hi ladies!

Congrats on all the losses! Woohoo! I'm down 8 lbs. from Dec. 30th. But I know it was lots of salt, etc. like Bonnie said about hers. So now I'm 218, thank God! :D

I made my week work! Good on food, water, steps (even when I had to go alone at 11pm), and meditation and breathing. Also I did ok on my toning stuff too. Hope next weeks goes as well.

Panda, good luck on ur studying stuff! I know what you mean about being so busy you have to force yourself to find time to exercise.

Bonnie, woohoo! Yayyyy! Onederland, I'm soooo jealous! But also really happy for you girly! :cb:

Cindi, I'm so sorry about your bday. So far it hasn't happened here, but heaven help my loved ones if they don't even send a card over. Geez! I'm with Carla, tell them it hurt your feelings and I bet it wouldn't happen again. Sometimes ppl just take us for granted. It's up to us to correct the situation if we want to see a change. Good luck with the chat~ (assuming you wanna take our advice. You definitely don't have to. We just think you deserve more considering all that you do for everyone else.) :cp:

Hiya to pebbles, mscat, and everyone here. Great week u guys.. let's keep at it. I am sore from diving back in but I know I'll get used to it all.

Hugs! Selina :D

acire 01-09-2006 08:46 PM

mscat, the chairperson of the Stop the insanity... you're doing a great job in motivation!!

and Bonnie!!! GOOD JOB ON THE SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!

mscat816 01-09-2006 10:27 PM

Don't Despair

Sushi - Hang in there. As others have said there can be lots of reasons for that gain - even if you are doing all the right things! Be aware that according one of the top weight loss gurus (can't remember his name) there are four basic steps to weight loss. Eating right, drinking water, exercise, and SLEEP. Check out this article on the subject:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/...ght-gain_x.htm

I do great on the other 3 but I bet if I could master getting enough sleep it would make a real difference in my metabolism!

Selina :encore: on losing 8lbs since December and :bravo: on having a great week.

Sushi Penguin 01-10-2006 05:55 AM

Thank you so much for the article, Mscat! :) You're such a wonderful leader and inspire me so much. :)

I honestly hope it's the sleep deprivation - so far I haven't been able to get back into a proper sleep routine since Christmas. I haven't been exercising as much as I normally would, partially because of tiredness, but I certainly haven't been eating more. It says in the article "Scientists have found that sleep deprivation increases levels of a hunger hormone and decreases levels of a hormone that makes you feel full." -- that would totally explain why I've been feeling hungry and nearly ravenous around 9-10 am each morning recently.

So let me press my insanity stopping button and go to bed now! :)

Sushi Penguin 01-10-2006 04:50 PM

Mmmm, I got really great sleep last night, and met both of my goals for Monday. :) Feels good. :)

Bonnie, no, I don't record my calories (everything is in kilojoules here, and I can't seem to figure things out), but I have a very set meal plan right now and pretty much eat the same thing and the same quantities each day. I wasn't eating more, apart from one day when I was so hungry at work in the morning that I had to get a sandwich.

mscat816 01-10-2006 07:05 PM

I found this from the Daily Motivator - I think it really speaks to all of us on this thread.

ACTION IN PLACE OF EXCUSES

It is easy to make up excuses to tell to yourself. For you can choose to believe anything you say to yourself.
But what do those excuses accomplish? Where do they take you?

It's easy to use your thinking to rationalize your way out of taking action. Without much effort, you can think of plenty of good, believable reasons for not making the effort.

At some point, though, you must ask yourself this question. Do you want your life to be filled with excuses or with accomplishment?

In fact, each time you catch yourself thinking up an excuse or rationalization, ask yourself that question. Challenge yourself to consciously choose whether or not you wish to accomplish.

When you force yourself to look at it that way, the excuses will begin to look pretty silly and useless. The more you remind yourself of the value of accomplishment, the more you will take action instead of making up excuses.

And the more you take action, the more you will achieve.

-- Ralph Marston

Let us all STOP THE INSANITY of making excuses and instead make accomplishments happen with action!

CindiRella 01-10-2006 07:16 PM

Hello Chicks!!

I am doing well, I got on the scale this am and it went down quite a bit...I am excited!! But it's not weigh in day so I have to stay motivated to keep it from going back up!!! Thanks for all the support about my birthday issue. I did talk to my DH and he knows how upset I was now. I don't know what that means, but we will see.

Today I had an interview with a potential client for childcare services so I did my exercise/heavy duty cleaning spree this morning...I worked up a sweat and I think it paid off!! The interview went well!! I still have some laundry/stair challenges to do tonight. But I am not sleeping well, so I am tired and not sure I'll get to it all!!

You ladies are doing so well, you are a great inspiration to me!! Keep up the good work...we aren't going to be "Fat Chicks" for long!!!

Soon2BFitChick 01-10-2006 09:01 PM

 Ty Bonnie, Mscat, and all of you. I feel way better now that I'm back into the groove, that's for sure! :cb:

Also, I have joined a group called Competitive Weight Loss Challenge on Yahoo. Whoever has the lowest percentage lost on Mondays has to do an extra challenge. The loser this week has to walk 12000 steps including in those at least 200 of which have to be upstairs. You aren't allowed to count them going down for the 200 but they can count for the 12000. I don't care if I lose the competition! I'm still gaining something from it all! Our challenge this week is to drink 64 oz of water each day with an additional 8 oz. for each 20 lbs. we are overweight. So I'm drinking 96 oz. a day now..LOL. Way more than I usually do. But that's good for me! Anyway, he made us a database where all our weights each week can be viewed by us all and also a database thingy called the Golden Closet where we each list items in our closet we are trying to get into (or back into..lol). I listed my fave jeans. Got into those for a minute last year..lol.

Anyhoo, let me know if any of you would like to join up. I think a little competition will get me really moving!!

Hugs!! Selina :D

mscat816 01-12-2006 01:09 AM

Wednesday Night!

Evening ladies (or should I say mornin'?). I found our thread on the second page so I am moving us back up to the top. I hope that because we are getting close to the end of week we are not falling off our resolve.

I didn't get my workout in but I ate well today. It is getting easier and easier to eat regularly and well. :cb: Inspired by the reading I posted I am kicking butt and being in action these last days of this week's challenge - I am having a fantastic scale report on Monday!

Sushi :cheer: for meeting your goals on Monday and for getting better sleep.

Bonnie :cheer: :cheer: for Monday and Tuesday's goals. I know that wine has calories but they say a glass a day is actually good for most people.

Cindi :cheer: for that housework workout. Hang tough with holding that scale at bay.

Selina - thanks for the info - some of us might want to take on an additional challenge. Sounds like you are really on track. Keep up the good work - you really inspire us.

I am looking forward to everyone checking in to see how we are doing with our ACTIONs.

phatpanda 01-12-2006 01:26 PM

:D Hello all-

sorry i've been pretty bad with checking in lately...but it sounds like most of us are still on track and we're more than half-way through the week!! woohoo:D i realized...i really don't think i would last if i tried to do anything for longer than a week...i need the variety! already i was thinking of what i want to do next week cause i was sick of what i was doing this week...haha

So, my challenge to study and workout...let's just say i kept half of it...but unexpectedly i kept the WORKOUT portion...haha monday i did 30 mins of my exercise tape and tuesday and wednesday i actually RAN for 30 mins...:carrot: who thought i would still be capable to do that? haha

nevertheless, i must confess...(hey that rhymed!) i am a little too addicted to my scale right now...after working out for 3 days straight i expected at least a lb to go down...but i'm stuck! i've been really good about keeping a food diary and drinking lots of water too..so i feel like i'm doing everything "right" but i'm not seeing any results...i know i just need to push through this and hopefully next week will be better but this is when i just want to be like screw it and go get chinese take out! but I WILL NOT succum to the INSANITY! :nono: I will try harder!!!

mscat :thanks: for keeping this thread up and going and that GREAT article on action in place of excuses! I'm sure you're going to have a FANTASTIC weigh-in on Monday:goodscale

bonnie - hang in there with the calories! fight the temptation as you visit your mom as i'm sure they'll be lots of yummy food around...you sound like you have a solid plan of exercise for the rest of the week so rest up on Sunday and have fun!

selina - that sounds like a really good challenge with tangible goals! i have my "skinny" jeans in the closet too...someday i will fit back into them! and that someday will be in JUNE! :cheer:

everyone - :dancer: :dancer: :dancer: with half of january almost under the belt...i can feel it...we are ALL going to do so WELL this year!!! this is the year of ACTION!

Soon2BFitChick 01-12-2006 01:43 PM

Hi everyone! Well I'm good on it all since Jan.1. I can't believe it. Good on my food, water and steps. Adding in more toning each day too every chance I get, I do more reps or lifts. Can't hurt!

I hope I've lost this week but if I haven't I don't care bc I'm back and I'm losing inches. Every single week I measure myself and I'm finally shrinking again. I'm so glad!

You all are on the ball and that makes this all so much easier! Seeing the example that all of you set each day reminds me that it can be done!

So thanks, girls! :D

Bye for now, gotta run, Selina

carla49 01-12-2006 04:27 PM

Sorry for the silence, ladies. It just seems like my get-up-and-go got up and went. I'm sure things will improve soon, but meanwhile I'm just lying low and shovelling in fuel. (sad but true...)

It sounds like things are going well for many of you, and maybe if I lurk really consistently I'll catch some of your enthusiasm. Meanwhile, I sure do wish I could find a Bojangles for dinner. Sounds yummy, and we don't have them here.

Maybe I just need a break from thinking about weight? I've always felt it's important to take a rest along the way to enjoy life and sort of maintain. As long as there's no big gain, that is. And speaking of rests, I think it's time for a nap.

Sushi Penguin 01-12-2006 04:52 PM

Not much time again... but I've been going to bed on time and sleeping well! :cheer:
So Monday was good, Tuesday good, Wednesday semi-good (made sushi and had to have a bit and it was 9 pm already...), Thursday good again. :)

Bonnie, no time, I'll respond later, but don't worry, it's all ok! :)

acire 01-12-2006 09:45 PM

I'm loving how I'm feeling. I definitely feel like a whole new person! I'm so proud, I've kept to the exercise and eating right thing! Usually during 'that time of the month', I stop exercising and the whole thing goes to ****, but this week, I toughed it out. 1 more day of exercise and I'm done and moving on to the next week.

Hang in there ladies, let's make all of our wishes come true this year!!!!

dgpebbles 01-12-2006 11:43 PM

Hey ladies,
I fell great...I exercised today before work for the first time...It keep me energized all day...now I can't wait for tomorrow morning

Acire - I'm with you..I feel like a new person..I feel so alive...Great job on the exercise for this week..

Bonniebelle - great job...thats a great routine...something to keep you motivated by not doing the same thing everyday

Sushi Penguin 01-13-2006 06:36 PM

Hi again
Hope everyone's week is going well :)
I'm glad to say I managed to go to bed by 10:30 pm even on Friday, when the pressure to stay up is always greatest. :)

mscat816 01-14-2006 12:00 AM

Fritag report!

Night ladies - I am exhausted. Had a frustrating day at work (same old stuff) and didn't get home till 10:30! aaaahhhhgg! But I did get a 20 minute treadmill workout this a.m. In addition, my family wanted me to stop at White Castle :fr: on my way home. I pushed my imaginary STOP THE INSANITY button and passed. I had a few bites of sliced ham, a low fat string cheese instead :cheer:

panda - don't worry about that scale. Keep doin' what yer doin'. You will see it soon and if you don't see it on the scale, rest assured it's showing up in inches!

Selina :cheer: it's so nice to have you posting regularly with us again!

Bonnie :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: for your 4 out of 5 days!

carla - I agree with you about a rest break - part of Stop the Insanity - is don't push yourself beyond your mental and physical well-being for the sake of weight loss. You may be better able to snap back and hit the ground running again.

acire :cheer: for your actions and :bravo: on your attitude.

dgpebbles :cheer: for your morning workout - glad that is working out for you - I like the feeling of accomplishment too I get when I get my workout done in the a.m.

Sushi :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: You are a mean, soon to be lean, STOP THE INSANITY machine.

Got a long day ahead of me so I am going to bed too!

Please pray for my daughter's father who is in the hospital with a staph infection in his leg and for my dear co-worker who's grandson is in hospice. Thank you.

Soon2BFitChick 01-15-2006 12:20 PM

Thanks!

Mscat, thanks so much for making me feel welcome here. You too Bonnie and all of you, thanks. Really. It feels like coming home when I'm back here with you all. :p I really have missed y'all but I barely managed to get thru each day when my baby was keeping me up at night. Now it's not so often so I can be alert enough to get online and write! LOL. :D

We are taking them to the park today, so I am gonna walk and get my steps out there. It's so pretty outside!! Really sunny and clear and about 70 degrees.

I'm going down in inches, Thank God. At least I see progress there if I don't see it on the scale. I only weigh on Monday mornings now. It really did hinder my efforts, weighing more often bc I gain water weight and lose it alot. It sucks. Esp. when it's TTOM. :?:

Anyhoo, Bonnie, Mscat, Donna, Sushi, and everyone here, have a great Sunday! :carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

I will be posting tomorrow's weight. I hope I can at least change my avatar to 60 lbs. off! (I'm at 59 now.) It's depressing bc I got down to 79 lbs. off last year. Then when Emily was newborn, I was so tired all the time! :( I love her so much and my son. I don't care that I couldn't do for myself til now. They are so fun and happy that I feel like I must be doing ok for them. Now maybe I can get back to doing some for myself too. :dizzy:

Talk to you all later on! Big hugs, Selina

dgpebbles 01-15-2006 12:54 PM

Selina - I hope you reach your 60lbs tomorrow;) ..you've done a great job so far...keep up the great work...glad to see those inches going away...Have fun at the park..

Bonnie - your snapper recipe sounds good...let us know how it was..you may have to share how you cooked it...

Good luck on weigh-in tomorrow everyone..

Sushi Penguin 01-15-2006 04:51 PM

Hello, hello, Monday morning here. :)
Goals not met on Saturday, but met on Sunday, so it's 5 out of 7 for last week. :)

I stepped on the scale this morning - shouldn't be till tomorrow, when the new thread starts, but I wanted to see if I met my mid-January goal. And it's 135.5 lbs! :cheer: So 2 lbs down, and that's amazing given how little exercise I got in because of back pain! :)

mscat816 01-15-2006 11:34 PM

Night Ladies!

Missed you ladies while I was MIA - busy day yesterday but I got up this a.m. and got on that treadmill :carrot: Had a great eating day yesterday and today and got in plenty of water too!

My new thing is trying to reduce the amount of mindless tv I watch, sitting on my B B and not getting anything accomplished toward my goals. That is Insanity! So I choose to make a change - I made sure I drank water a jug of water for every 1 hour of TV I watched this afternoon (72 oz total!). I was going to get on the treadmill during one of my TV shows but got hit with a bout of diarrhea :?: I didn't feel well enough to work out after that but instead of my usual snacks during TV I had fruit and veggies!

Bonnie - it's real cold here in Michigan (surprise - not!).

Everyone - can't wait for weigh in tomorrow and posting of new goals. See ya in the a.m.

Sushi Penguin 01-16-2006 12:36 AM

Ouch, Mscat, hope your tummy feels better now! :) :goodvibes:

I forgot to mention I did my 10 min of stationary biking (part of 21 day challenge) this morning as soon as I got up, and it felt great - to do it AND to have it done by 7:15 am! :cheer:

mscat816 01-16-2006 08:17 AM
