Happy Saturday Evening!!

Wow, you all have gotten a whole page ahead since yesterday! Lots happening, that's good, real good! :D I have been good too considering it's the beginning of the weekend. I wore my second pair of size 18's today! I felt real confident when I slipped them on. :smug: I haven't missed any exercise either and kept in my caloric/fat gram range. Must of been the pants! hahaha I hope that with this good behavior I will see a loss on monday!

Robsia, now you know the next time you feel down on yourself you can pull out the inner strength to whip it. The same inner strength you used to turn down donuts! Now that's big! Yay! for moving that scale! Good job!

Paula, thanks for the birthday wishes! About the ordering online, I think I will get my brother to do it from his computer. He pays his bills online, so I'm sure his computer would be secure enough! I just hope he doesn't laugh at me! LOL Congrats on your 2lb. loss!! Way to go!

Lois, thanks also for the birthday wishes! You are doing awesome! Isn't it funny how we enjoy to see and feel sweat now?! hahaha I know if I'm sweating I'm doing alright!

Linda, sorry to hear about your crappy day yesterday. I hope you had a better one today!

Cheryl, I wish I really had the energy too! hahaha The majority of the time I push myself to the treadmill. But I am always so glad I did when it's over. I feel such sense of accomplishment. It really does something for my self-confidence for something that small.

Britchick,
welcome abroad! Your gonna love it here. I would echo everything the girls has said already and then X2!! This place awesome!

Lola, I gotta say these ladies are a great part of motivation for me. Coming here everyday and reading through some of the tough days and moments and still manage to come out on top is quite motivating when you're going through some tough moments yourself. Having these great friends makes you want to strive to have something great to share. And when there isn't, doesn't matter cause they're here to pick you up!

Angie, you've come to the right place for support! Leave your cares here! Welcome!

Garnetfairy, welcome back! I gotta say I was beginning to wonder what had happened to you! Glad you found us! Great job getting to the gym! You go girl!

Cassie, I think you can gather from what I have said already, you have stumbled into a great place. welcome! Congratulations on your 2lb. loss! Great job! Keep it coming!

Well gals, I guess I shall be going, hubby just getting home wanting some attn. hahaha Have a great night!

~Tina

Intro.....

Hi everyone!:balloons:
Hope your weekend is going well.

Thought I'd take this oppotunity to tell you a little about myself, as the rest of the house are still in bed, so I get a chance to use the computer in peace!:comp:
My name is Barb and I am 43yrs young. I'm married with two older children, well I say children.... my son is 22 and my daughter is 17, but they are stil my babies! awwwww!!:bb:
I have beeen overweight all my life and tried every diet out there, just about, but always managed to put more on than off!!
Motivation has always been my downfall, I've tried WW and other weekly slimming groups, but have always felt after a while that I'm trying to lose the weight just so I don't get told off at the club, :nono: so end up throwing the towel in after only a couple of months (Stupid I know):(
Anyhow, due to a few recent changes in my life, I've had some time to sit down and assess. Health problems are very much top of my worries. I have an underactive thyroid, there's diabetes in the family and both my older brothers have had bypass surgery in their 40s, I have decided this is the time for me.
It's like a switch has finally gone on, it's been a long time coming, and having found this site has made me feel that there is hope out there at last.
My friends and family are great, but I am still the largest of all, and I don't feel they truely understand how I feel about my weight. I've always been the first to make fun of my size, because I couldn't bear the thought of anyone else.

So, thankyou all for your kind welcome and encouragement, I look forward to meeting and making new friends of you all!!!
:grouphug: :thanks: :thanks:

You know, I'm the only person I've met in Nova Scotia who puts malt vinegar (or any vinegar) on fries. Always have to ask for it. They want to bury you in catsup, however.

Well, Vulcans play the harp. So, if the Borg assimilated a Vulcan, then they would assimilate that ability also, so they would be able to play the harp, they just wouldn't do it, as it would be inefficient.

Hence, Seven could sing and read music in Voyager (even though the music she was reading was incorrect - the notes were the wrong way round for heaven's sake!!!! Grrr! How hard would it have been to have got a musician to check it for them??)

Sorry - went off on a tangent there for a moment!

*sigh*

Well, as today is my official weigh in day, and I lost nothng since yesterday, my total for the week is a puny 0.6 lbs.

*is NOT happy*

Sorry - welcome to Cassie and welcoem back to garnetfairy - glad you found us again.

I have a bad habit of replying to one particular postwithout reading the rest of the thread, so I miss stuff.

Barb - you'll fit right in here - we ALL know how each other feels about being "the big one".

My mum is actually bigger than me and she DOES have diabetes and high blood pressure and is on a cocktail of medication and I really don't want to go there.

My sister is a size 8 and so is my niece. My best friend is a 10, so they really don't get it.

Mind you my sister has lost 2 stone recently. She went up to a tight 10, which sounds small but she is tiny - 4' 11.5" so it really showed on her - she actually had a spare tyre. Now she looks fantastic so I figured if she can do it . . . I have more to go but even so.

Anyway, enough waffling. Suffice it to say, this place is a great source of motivation.

Hi me again!

Can you give me some idea as to what diet programmes you are all following?:dunno:
I started on the GI plan 2 weeks ago, it is a little different than diets I've done before, but would be interested in others tips.

Thanks!!

Good Morning to all . . .

It hasn't started snowing in Nova Scotia . . . yet . . . but it isn't sunny either and the official blizzard warning is still out there.

Garnet . . . glad to see you again. We need everybody. Life would just not be as much fun if even one of us went missing.

A great big welcoming  for you, Cassie. As has been said already, this is a great place to come for a supportive, togetherness fix.

Robsia . . . It's good . . . good to lose .6; good to be changing things now, before you follow in your Mother's footsteps. You know, of course, that neither a Borg drone nor a Klingon warrior is allowed to whine, especially about the things that they get wrong in TV shows and movies. But I do know what you mean. Once you've seen every episode of every Star Trek series as many times as I have, it gets pretty difficult not to notice some of the little mistakes.

Oh, Barb, we certainly know what it feels like to always be the "largest". But, you know, everything is relative. I have a close friend who has the exact opposite problem. She is always the "smallest". In other words, we each have to walk in our own shoes and give thanks when we find someone to understand and share our feelings.

My "plan" is, I guess, my own. Basically, the exchange system recommended by the CDA (Canadian Diabetes Association) guidelines (yes I have diabetes), with some of the best thoughts from Weight Watchers thrown in. I also keep a close eye on the Glycemic Index of various foods because its a good indicator of the impact of various types of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels and I guess I'm also a believer in the Volumetrics theory of "energy density". I log my daily exchanges into a little Excel program I wrote that calculates my calories, carbs, fat, and protein grams and percentages for the week. And . . . since I try to average about 1500 calories a day, I guess I'm a calorie counter, too. :dizzy:

Anyway, now that I've totally confused you, that's enough of my rambling for now. Have a great day. See you all soon. :carrot:

Barb:wave:

Hi! I am just calorie counting...nothing is off limits as long as I don't go over 2,000 calories a day (I am breastfeeding so I must have at least 1800 a day). What is GI?

Thanks for the welcome, Ladies! I look forward to getting to know you and shedding the pounds with you all!

britchick7 02-12-2006 11:19 AM

HI All:wave:

Paula,
your girls are beautiful! How old are they? You certainly have your hands full! My two are five years apart, but they can still be a handful at times!!! The worries never stop, you only have to ask My mum on that!!!!

Cassie,
The GI is the Glycemic Index, chosing foods that are lower are better. It takes alittle while to get into it but after 2 weeks I'm getting the hang of what I can and can't eat. No proccessed sugar or white flour foods, mostly whole foods.....lots of veg and fruit, no problem,I love my veggies, wholegrains, lean meat etc, plus I'm watching my fats.

I must admit I have had 2pieces of chocolate cake, 1 this wk and 1 last, as both my kids have had birthdays within the last 2wks, but I have counted it in my diary! ( And the cakes were only little ones to begin with!!!!!):hb:

I hope I'm forgiven?!
Mind you I can see looking back to earlier, Fish and chips was the topic......
malt vinigar is a must, and don't forget the mushy peas!!!!!

Take care all!!

britchick7 02-12-2006 11:27 AM

Meowee,

I would be interested to hear more about the 'energy density' theory, could you explain more? Also your excel programme sounds good, all help gratefully received!! Thanks.

Robsia,
I see you are a Terry Pratchett fan like myself!!
I love the Witches stories, I have an affection for Nanny Ogg, she's my all time fav!!!!

Cassie501107 02-12-2006 12:13 PM
