Hey everyone. Running out the door to take the baby to his music class....
didn't post yesterday but I completed 5 days of exercise but I still haven't climbed back on the beer wagon. It's hard to get started but one I do I should be able to stick to it. Like I'd be mad if I screwed up after 5 days of exercise, so the motivation is there!!! :dizzy:
See everyone later!!!

Fish - you are doing well. Are you noticing some toning in the arms now??

Chaps - you are nearly finished too. Well done.

Red - coming up to the end of this challenge for you too. What a bunch we are.

Okay gotta run. Things to do.

redballoon 10-11-2005 10:24 PM

Heh, all! I was just browsing through some of the other forums..more on that later...and I came across someone's weight loss photos (think it was in the "success stories" forum). I was so impressed and inspired by the unbelievable changes in this young woman who lost 115 lbs. that I thought you all would be too. So, here's the link if you'd like to take a look! :sunny:

Day 19 finito. And what a fun day it was. Up early to wait for delivery of my new Gazelle, not that I can use it until my nose heals a bit more. Long story short, the Gazelle is missing in action. UPS has no idea where it is. But at least they're not treating me like an impatient little old lady anymore. In fact if they ever find it they've promised to deliver at a pre-specified time!!! So I may not have to waste another whole day waiting and on hold on the phone. Very frustrating.

In any case, I got zilch done today. My nose is improving, although I'm still pretty scary-looking. I kept trying to scratch under the corners of the splint, which finally fell off. This is a good thing as I was able to trim back the tape that was itching and driving me bananas. But a bad thing as now the splint won't stick back on and I've managed to whack myself in the nose about three times...

I had big plans to go out and do errands once my dealings with UPS finally ended at 7:30, but instead watched about two thirds of Biggest Loser before falling asleep and missing the vote-off. Then I woke up at the end of My Name is Earl, and watched the tail end of The Greatest Race. Needless to say, I have no idea what is going on anywhere. The joy of meds... Not that anyone with a life needs to watch quite that much tv.

Only two more days of this challenge. It seems endless, probably because I had made it to within two days of the end of the last challenge before screwing up last time. I have one rest day left, and can't quite decide whether to use it tomorrow or on my birthday. Whichever, I'm taking a few days off after it ends, and will have to think seriously about the next go-round. It's about time I added in some exercise... Hey! I know! maybe I should play with the elusive gazelle! I've already had to move my short-term challenge back to the end of the month instead of Canadian Thanksgiving which was yesterday.

Mez, it's good to see your fluffy little self back amongst us.

Marble, always remember coach carla has eyes in the back of her head and can see you when you're exercising - or not. Glad to see you've started a new challenge. Better to succeed at an easier challenge than to abandon a hard one!

Red, it's only a day or so until you can go back to your boozehound ways. (Says the pot to the kettle...) You can do it, I know you can. But isn't it scary how fast we lose our good habits? Especially since it takes so long to make those habits in the first place.

Shad, Curly, Fish, Friends, Apple, Chaps, Vanessa - you all seem to be doing pretty well. Keep up that good work!

Red, I guess you'll start a new thread once you start your NEXT challenge? Are you going to take some time off before you once again provide a shining example of self-denial to us all?

Time to put the nose to bed. :)

carla's back!!

carla -- Ah, good to have you back! I missed your long posts! :spin: Just two more days for you. I, on the other hand, have FOUR! Four is a very long word....How bizarre with your missing gazelle. You wouldn't think those things would run off like that...Glad to hear your nose is getting better. Not sure what the splint does, but wouldn't having it fall off not be a very good thing?! Yes, sure sounds like you watched a lot of TV, the names of which programs I have absolutely no clue! I kind of would like to see that Biggest Loser thing though. I love, as you can tell from my last post, love seeing pictures of people who have lost weight. It gives me hope. Really, my biggest problem is that I can't at all visualize myself being different. It sounds like some exercise factor in your next challenge would be a good idea, carla. Ah ha! Your birthday is tomorrow (my tomorrow!) one day before curly's. Remind us and we will all wish you a happy one! By the way, happy belated Thanksgiving. I had no idea Canada even had a Thanksgiving Day till Shad mentioned it. Yesterday at work, the topic came up. There was a Canadian sitting behind me, Brit to the right, Aussie to the left and an American in front of me. We had just shot down the Brit on some "England abolished slavery first" BS when I go to the Canadian, "Heh, I hear you guys got Thanksgiving too." and he goes, "Yup. It was on Monday." I go, "What do you do on the day?" and he croons, "Turkey!" and the other American goes, "What do Canadians have to be thankful for?" and I quipped..."Not being Americans!!" .... :spin: to which the Aussie guffawed and said, "I didn't want to be the one to say it...." The American turned up his nose at me, everyone else laughed (including the young quiet Brit who has still not adjusted to being in such a hostile environment)! Sorry, fellow Yanks, I love the good old U. S. of A....just being my usual irreverent self in order to get a laugh and keep 'em guessing as to just what I'm all about! So, carla, my "boozehound ways," is it? Well, I never!! Good habits!?! Where?!?!? :dunno: ...I've been chomping at the bit for the past three weeks (except for the two days that involved beer). There is no habit forming here. The only thing I'm getting good at is, like you said, being...a shining example of self-denial! For me, I think that's all it's ever going to be with certain integral parts of my being and body, namely my right arm (sugar) and my left arm (beer). At best I can tie one or both of them behind my back periodically and learn to make do with my mouth, nose, and toes...

mezmerize 10-12-2005 12:00 AM

Red thanks so much for sharing! I'm not brave enough to take pictures at this time. Somedays I wish had at my start. Funny thing today when I was looking in the mirror giving myself that daily pep talk. I noticed that my face looks thinner. Now I find I keep looking in the mirror just incase it was the light. This is 1st time I've ever noticed that I have infact lost weight. I've gone from a 22 to a 14 but I feel my body still looks the same. It's weird what the mind can do.

carla49 - Keeping my figers crossed that the Gazelle find it way home. Be sure to post on how well you like it. Glad to hear the nose is healing I watched the biggest loser Susan got kick off. I believe that was her name. She was the one with the long blonde hair. She looked really great in her after pictures. I can't tell you about the rest for I turned it to Super Natural then Law & Order SVU are was it vise versa... lol I can't recall. Happy Birthday!

Shad 10-12-2005 12:13 AM

Gonna have to remember to bring some birthday balloons and things for Carla tomorrow. Is it Curly's birthday the day after? Crikey! More balloons, more flowers, more pressies

icedragon6669 10-12-2005 12:40 AM

Finished day 3 no soda and almost day 4 ! It is easy once you get through day 1!

redballoon 10-12-2005 12:43 AM

an analogy....

People, In my further browsing today..I get Yoga Journal and in their newsletter for this month there was a video interview with guru Rodney Yee, whom I really like.

http://blogs.yogajournal.com/2005/09...l?ctsrc=nlv173

I especially think the response to this question...."What five tips do you give students to help them build or maintain a home practice?" ...has relevant words for all of us here who are trying to add exercise to our lives. Listen if you can and just think of Yee as talking about anything, it doesn't have to be yoga...

http://blogs.yogajournal.com/video/1...y_content.html

I also like the one about keeping a practice fresh...

"...The only thing that doesn't keep things fresh
is your own attention.
If you look at something the same way,
with the same attitude,
you're going to get the same thing,
at least you think you're going to get the same thing.
There's nothing not fresh about the present moment
so really there's nothing that you have to do,
it's something you have to allow."

I think that's something to think about when we are sick of "doing the same old thing," whether it's going to work or going to the gym or doing our exercise or sticking to our diet. I think we have to remember that what we're doing IS new and fresh and we have to remember to see it in a way deserving of that moment.

carla49 10-12-2005 12:47 AM

Yes! We love balloons! We love presents! We love wine and chocolate! (Oops. Yes, the mighty really are going to fall with a very loud THUNK, preferably not on our tender purple nose.)

I am firmly convinced the Gazelle is off wandering in search of a veldt to call home, perhaps all the way back at the Shopping Channel. UPS doesn't believe me yet, but I'm pretty sure sure they sent it back last Wednesday after the third delivery attempt they weren't supposed to make. None of the agents I spoke to laughed when I said maybe their internal communications would work better if they didn't send their messages via UPS. In fact I wonder if it was at that very moment that Zelly was set loose to fend for her delicate little self, and Carla be damned...

Red, the splint is a hard plastic cover over the nose to keep it safe from bumps. I've tried two-sided tape, and that won't keep it on either. I'll just have to sleep very carefully, and try not to dream of blowing the old honker just in case I wake up to find I've blown out all the stitches while unconscious. And by the way, I distinctly remember you being a very busy gym bunny when I first joined this thread. I recall being very impressed and quite humbled. And if you have beer in one hand and sugar in the other, how will you hold the white flour?

Time to let sleep mend the ravelled sleeve or whatever. (too tired to look that one up). ZZzzzzzzzzz....

redballoon 10-12-2005 12:57 AM

methinks....

carla -- Oh, I forgot about the white flour. I was standing on it (left leg). I've gotten very good at balancing on one leg these days.....

Good night...good night...

"...Sleep that knits up the ravell'd sleeve of care,
The death of each day's life, sore labour's bath,
Balm of hurt minds, great nature's second course,
Chief nourisher in life's feast,..."

carla49 10-12-2005 01:12 AM

:drill: you showoff!! But you're forgiven, since you did such a good job of channeling the Canadian zeitgeist in the newsroom chit-chat.

The sooner I sleep, the sooner day 21 will come. :tired:

redballoon 10-12-2005 05:18 AM

catching up....

icedragon -- Hurrah for you! :cp: Get Day 4 down yet? I'm glad you're finding it easy but don't pop-poo what you're doing. It's a great change and will pave the way to even bigger, even better things! Good for you!

Shad -- Yeah, we got a deluge of birthdays here! Hope you got enough stuff! And congrats on Day 18 in the bag!! We are a bunch, aren't we? :cb:

mez -- Why don't you get someone to take your photos and not show them to you but show them later once you've lost weight. I am the same way. I have a friend videotaping me riding but I daren't look yet. I couldn't stand to not only see how giant I look on the horse, but also at the same time to see my lack of riding skill! Mez, you've gone from a size 22 to a size 14!! That is awesome. And you look the same?? Well, I doubt that but I kind of know what you mean. I suggest weight training to sculpt your body. Then it will look different. Back, before I started weight training I was the same. I lost a lot of weight but thought I just looked like a smaller version of my bigger self. And basically, unless you lose a ton of fat you're not going to see the difference so easily, except in the size. But if you weight train, you not only will see a difference in shape, but the less fat you now have on you will make you look sooo much better than if you were just weight training and not losing fat. Ok, did I ramble enough today?!?! Oh, and thank you so much for the kind words. I should be proud of having held temptation at bay, shouldn't I? And, the gym, it's good to be back seeing familiar faces...and all those great bodies...

curly -- you're aren't saying what you're doing with your challenge? Have you had a relapse or is it me?

Apple -- Good going on the exercise! I hear you on having difficulty getting started again. Maybe you could just limit yourself to no more than a bottle a day or something like that...less than what you'd been drinking.

marble -- Way to go!!! :strong:

Fish -- Wow, look at that! 12 pushups!! And you could barely do a couple in the beginning, right? :bravo: Ok, no lectures...but I wasn't lecturing, just trying to help you out. ;) I hate to see it when people try TOO HARD and then get beaned over the head with their efforts. Relax! You'll get there. "A breeding sow!!?!?!?" Oh, come on, girl!!?? You make me laugh!!! Well, at least you've got your sense of humor...I think...come on, remember, our bodies change as we get older and though you may have "suddenly dropped" to 127 when you were in your 20s, you just may have to accept that it's going to take more effort now. If you think 35 is bad....just wait! :lol3: Fish, don't be desperate.....just be determined. :goodvibes: Cheer up! Cheer up! You can do it and you WILL!!

friends -- Almost!!!! :flow1: And NO, your challenge doesn't sound lame!! :nono: Listen to mez and me! Listen to yourself. You're soooo right when you say that this WILL be a challenge because you never exercise. Whatever you can do now is fine!! That's where you should be, not beating yourself up over what you COULD do. Like marble says, talk is cheap. But, YOU are DOING!!! :cp:

Chaps -- :woo: Day 16 done!! Wow, how about all these compliments and looks you're getting recently. Your head is going to SWELL!! I'll take the compliments from the gay guys....in fact they are probably more truthful because there is no vested interest so to say! :lol3: Keep it up!!

carla -- I'm glad I'm forgiven. The question is...who's going to forgive you!! ;)
