  • Hello, I just recently found out that i have a hypothyriod. Then they discontinued my medicade and i havent been to the doctor since just wondering if i could get some help with some questions i have if anyone is willing to help please let me know. I just need to know what i can do to help myself without medication because it is too expensive... I am now taking THYRIN-ATC it is an OTC drug.... Please help me!!!!!

    I'm hypothyroid also and they're are many others here also. There is a medicine called Armour thyroid which is relatively cheap(about 100 pills for $21). You do need a prescription for it but it is for hypothyroid people and many are really happy with it. Also there is a book by Mary Shomon called The Thyroid Diet and it is also very helpful. She also gives lots of info @ about.com
    I know cutting down on or out the refined carbs can help, increasing the protein might help, and supposedly soy can hinder thyroid production, so I avoid it. Hope that helps some.
  • Gruno, you can also go to the website of the company that makes ur meds and many of the drug companies have programs set up to supply meds to those who cant afford them... either free or at a very reduced price...
