Good Morning, Flowers!
It's a beautiful day in my neighborhood! I have my list made for the day and will run the last minute errands this afternoon after I have my mammogram. The nurse called and I have to go in for the 2 hour glucose test after we get back from vacation; my # was the same as last summer. Not exactly on my list of favorite things to do.
"Gma" -- Talk about people saving a buck! We have an 85+ year old relative who doesn't miss a free church dinner or any wedding, funeral, anniversary celebration where there will be food! She married later in life and was a teacher who saved everything! She took care of her mother for years and when her mother died, she moved all of her mother's stuff into her own home. She is MIL's cousin and MIL says that there are tiny paths throughout the house because it is so cluttered with stuff she has saved. I'd bet she has newspapers from 50 years ago, at least, plastic containers, etc., and the list is endless. I make all of my health appointments during June and July so I don't have to worry about them during the school year. I can have my lab work done at the doctor's office but have to go to the hospital for my mammogram. I wish I could coordinate them all in one day, that would be nice!
I need to do some ironing and double check my list! Have a great day!
Morning gals! It is cooler this AM but supposed to heat back up again today to the 90's. We sure could use some rain (after 8 AM though so I can get my workout in! )
Jean: Those are the kind of little old ladies that when they die, you find millions stuffed in coffee cans! Frugality was important back then. People could use a little more these days I think. Most people spend spend spend just because they have to have something immediately. I have relatives like that. Up to debt to their eyebrows but never save for anything. They just have immediate gratification. Then here we are, in our 50's and just bought our first home 3 years ago! At least we can afford to save and take vacations and not worry about who is going to call us about their payment when we get home.
We are leaving tomorrow for Nashville. Jack's favorite Cub's pitcher was injured earlier in the season, is now at triple A and they are playing the Nashville Sound on Father's Day and Kerry is pitching. It is just he and I as dd and sil have a birthday party for Thomas and we will get wiith them some time next week, but we are looking forward to it. We will be there Sat and Sun and come home Mon. It is kind of my present to him.
I have a lot of running around to do today so we can leave in the morning. I have to finish getting stuff for T's birthday, which is a week from Sat but we are celebrating on Friday night next week. I ordered him a soccer shirt with a T-Rex (his nickname) on it and am getting him a pair of soccer nets to practice with and some movie coupons.
Good Morning! It's going to be a warm humid afternoon, I think. I have the air set to come on because I'm trying to get all the last minute stuff done before we leave tomorrow. I've been to the grocery store and the bank for some extra $$.
"Gma" -- The SM thread is going to be pretty quiet unless Gloria would happen to stop by! This relative has money! Her DH owned a couple of farms and although he has grown children who farm them, she managed to get most everything put in her name when he had a stroke. We're not sure how she pulled that one off but she did. She had a nephew and a niece who will inherit her stuff -- one lives on the west coast and one lives on the east coast. Go figure! You and Jack have a wonderful weekend -- sounds like fun!
Well, I need to keep moving. I'll be back next Saturday for sure.

Today was my Retina Specialist appointment. I had never been to him before and I did like him. He took the time to explain things, which is good. Bottom line....left eye with the big floater is not a problem....learn to live with it and I will. However, the right eye had a 'tuft' pulling away from the retina and he said I should have laser surger to put a 'scar' around it to stabilize it and prevent it from detaching any further. The laser room was empty and he did it right then. It took all of 5 minutes...I didn't even have time to get nervous. Didn't hurt but they froze the eye and put goop in it and I was told not to touch they for a few hours as I could scratch the cornea without feeling anything. Whew! Glad that is over. I will go back next month for a check.
I didn't get back in here to wish you a fun trip, Jean. Hope you have a great time. I will "bump" the thread up everyday even if Gloria is not able to get in here to keep it from ending up on page 4 or something.
Gloria: Hope the eye is doing well. Scary thing to have to go through.
We had a nice time. Funny thing, we are going again a week from Friday to finish shopping for vacation. Except for the game (and we only stayed 4 innings) we didn't do anything except hang in the hotel. The ballpark is really old and concessions are a nightmare. We had trouble just getting OUT of the park because of concession lines. We just stayed to watch Kerry pitch then left and went and got some dinner. We were going to just have stuff at the ballpark, but when we got cold hot dog and hamburger we decided to go and get a real meal.
Well, better head to the pool. Probably packed on a couple lbs eating junk this weekend.

Good Afternoon, Flowers!
We got home yesterday afternoon but had rain, lightning, and thunderstorms during the evening, all night long, and most of this morning so I didn't even turn the computer on. I had to work at the hospital gift shop this morning and about froze to death. They had the air going full blast and it was only 65 degrees outside. We got 6" of rain but so far none is coming into the basement which is good. Our electricity was off during the night and all of the clocks were blinking away this morning. We had a nice week; the guys caught plenty of fish and the gals shopped! It is so good to be home -- I'm not much good at "roughing" it. We have indoor plumbing, cable TV, and electricity but not all the "extras" from home.
DH's two brothers are at MIL's for a few days so he is there with them. If he comes home tonight, I will go back with him tomorrow. If not, I'll see them in July when they come back to play in a golf tournament with DH.
Gloria -- I hope your eye continues to heal properly. It was nice that you could have the procedure done right away so that you didn't have time to get nervous and worry about it.
"Gma" -- I enjoyed the "over 40" list too! What a hoot! It's too bad your game turned out to be such a flop and bad food to top it off. Hope you are having a fun time this weekend!
The dryer is buzzing so it is time to put in another load.
Good morning gals! It is hot and humid and overcast this morning. 74 degrees at 6:30 AM! UGH! Makes for great swimming though!
Jean: Blow some of that rain this way. We desperately need rain. Sounds like you had a good time. Shopping is always fun. It is always great to take a vacation but when it is time to come home, it is time to come home.
We had a nice time with T for his birthday. We went swimming together and he is a little fish and fearless. He dog paddles but is not afraid of the deep end. In fact, we talked the little ham into jumping off the diving board if we would clap for him. When he did it once, he did it over and over.
We are leaving for Nashville on Friday after Jack gets off work. Going to go to Opry Mills Outlet and finish up clothes shopping for vacation. Jack is pretty wound up looking forward to vacation. We usually take 3-5 small ones spaced through the year and had to save most of his vacation time for Vegas so he hasn't had as much time off as usual. I thought we could accomplish two things this way.
Well, the pool issue is working out better since we keep it locked and open it for residents. My neighbor can see the pool from their upstairs and saw someone climb the fence a few days ago and went and chased them out, but we haven't had the overall problems. Course, I am not available most of the time. They don't seem to be having any trouble finding someone to open it for them so I don't worry about it. I am not going over there in the evening and closing it up. I don't like going out after dark here without Jack.
I guess I better take my meds, get some breakfast then get into the pool.

It is hot and humid here too! We got up to pouring rain but the sun has been in and out since around 11:00. I spent most of the morning sitting at the doctor's office doing the glucose test again. My #s were the same as last year but he wanted to do it again. I kept watching the clock in the waiting room because there were two whiney kids raising all sorts he**. They went through the exam-room doors once and then came back to wait for something. It was all I could do to keep from grabbing them. The mother was oblivious which made it all the worse. There were several older people there and these kids were running a figure 8 around the chairs, yelling, and screeching about who had whose toy. I was glad when it was my turn to leave! I won't know the test results until tomorrow since my doctor wasn't there today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
"Gma" -- Glad to hear that you and T had a good time swimming together. Ian has no fear of the water and he really makes me nervous on the dock. He's pretty good about not going out without an adult unless someone is out by the boat and he wants to go too, then he just takes off. The lake is up this year so it is way over his head. He likes to jump off and have his dad catch him; Jason lets him go under before he brings him back up. I try not to watch! Glad to hear the pool issue is working for you!
I need to go get groceries so better keep moving. Have a nice "rest of the day!"
Nice to see you back, JEAN, and also happy to hear you had a good vacation. Shopping is my idea of a great time.
FAYE: It is a good thing that the pool problems are slowing down. The fact that you can swim when you want to is great. T sounds like my gks...fearless. They all have had swimming lessons and that is a good thing as at least we know they can handle themselves in the water.
We have been having a mini heat wave....Sat. Sun. & Today. AC has come in handy. On Sunday we went to a farewell party to an old chum of DH. He & his wife are packing up, sellling the house. and moving to NC to be near their son, who, with his wife, are expecting their first child. They have much family, siblings, here but decided to make the change. His brother hosted the party at his home and wow! what a home. 1.2 million if anything. They are located on a small lake but also have a pool and their daughter sings with a 5 piece band....guitars, drums and they had a pavilion set up for the band.
It was a great time and DH grew up with most of the siblings so it was like old home week.
We are getting ready for the 4th of July in Falmouth with my girlfriend. Another old friend from work days will be there and so we should get a lot of gossip in. Bringing down a Chicken Marsala and a few other items so she won't have to do all the cooking all the time. She deserves time off, too.

Morning girls! It is of course, sticky in my part of the world this morning. We got a thunderstorm last evening (thanks for blowing it Jean! ) and since we are 9.5 inches down for the year, all the grass was puddles because it couldn't soak it up fast enough. So, now it is nice and sticky and hazy. Supposed to be 96 today, UGH!
Jack had a flat coming home from work last night. Had to take and get it plugged so dinner was late. Threw the whole evening off. Then, I was sitting watching TV in the living room in the dark (I have been keeping the lights off because we have lamps that put off a huge amount of heat) and I heard a bunch of rattling in the kitchen. I thought it was rain outside (we actually did get a thunderstorm last evening) but it kept it up. I freaked out (I am terribly rodent phobic), was so scared I couldn't move, screamed at Jack, who of course took his time coming downstairs, and asked him if by any chance he would go and look in the kitchen and see if the cat was making noise! I was glued to the couch crying! He came back in and said it was the cat that he was on the countertop by the printer and just went back upstairs without another word. I went in during the commercial and found out why, he was pouncing on a HUGE and I mean HUGE roach! I shooed him out of the kitchen, grabbed the roach spray and drowned the nasty thing, then cleaned up everything with Tilex! GIANT ROACHES I CAN HANDLE, NOT MICE, ETC! We can owe it all to those lovely neighbors!
Jean: When T was around 2, he used to run free around the pool and it scared the behooties out of me. My dd kept saying, if he fell in there were people that could jump in and save him, but it didn't make me feel any better. Don't you love to go to the dr and have to deal with someone's bratty kids. I mean, of all places a dr's off where people aren't feeling well anyway! Hope you #'s come out well. My last sugar was 90 I think and my cholesterol was 105 which had me jumping for joy.
Gloria: Sounds like you had a great time. Years ago, I was in Tupperware and we had this party at the distributor's home. I had never been in a home that big or expensive. To top it all off, her home was completely tupperized. I have never seen anything more organized in my life. The one cool thing was a sunken living room with the second floor landing going all the way around the top of the living room. It was gorgeous. Sounds like your holiday plans will be fun and I love Chicken Marsala.
I am going to be busy the rest of the week trying to get things ready to leave on Friday to go to Nashville. I have loads of stuff to do today so I better get to it!
Good Afternoon, Flowers! It's a bright sunny day in my neighborhood and NO wind which is nice. The forecast is for hot and humid so my air is still on although it feels pretty nice outside right now.
I just finished vacuuming the fur hunks and need to wipe up some foot and paw prints from the basement. . .I'll do that later. I need to make a grocery list and a WM list which I may run to after WW tonight. Bob has another meeting tonight so he won't be home.
Gloria -- Your house description makes it sound pretty fancy! I wonder what it would be like to live in something like that? There is a house being built on MIL's lake and this is the 3rd summer they have worked on it. We drive by on our way to her place and we have counted up to 20 pickups parked along the highway (belonging to the workers). From the lake side, they have marble steps leading down to the dock with a BIG fisherman statue on the beach. The dad was a Congressman and owns the Berkley fishing "stuff" factory. The son is building the house and it has an indoor pool plus a half court basketball floor. I wish they would have an open house when it is done but that will never happen. Do you use a recipe for Chicken Marsala? Would you share? It sounds good!
"Gma" -- I'll gladly send the rain your way! We have more on the way and my basement won't dry up as long as it keeps raining and the ground is saturated. As long as your sugar stays under 99, you are in good shape, until they lower the cutoff again! I think I could work with a mouse over a roach any day! Don't roaches "crunch" when you kill 'em? Gross! I think you are safe from mice as long as you have a cat.
