So how do you change it when you lose something??

lucky 04-01-2005 12:52 PM

I always go to userCP and click edit signature on the left. Then, just change the number. There may be an easier way but I've never looked for one.

KellieB 04-01-2005 02:12 PM

Good Afternoon ladies! Today is going quite well so far. I am pleased about that. I hope my day continues that way!

I actually have a picture my my nice huge rear from when we moved a few weeks ago. My step-mom took it. It is horrible to look at! I guess that is one of the reasons that I KNEW I needed to do something.

Alice ~ I get those same comments. If I have to go to a new dr. or if there is a different nurse. They will always put the scale much lower than what it will be. I have even had some comment that "wow, you don't look like you weigh that much" I don't know how to take that comment. I am 5'9" and carry the most of my weight in my butt and hips.

Not too much exercise here today. They are pouring concrete at our house, so it is not easy to get outside. I took the dogs out once, but it was starting to rain, so we ran back inside....does that count?!

Tricia ~ I want to thank you for all of the information that you have been willing to share. It is a great help and motivator!

Shawn ~ How is Carson doing today? I hope the fever is down. You did great with the pizza! I want to thank you for inviting me here. I think this is something that will really help me!

Kelly, that is sweet of you to say. I am certainly no expert on weight loss but I do seem to have figured out what works for me. Of course, we are all different and not everything works for everyone. That is one thing I love about this site and threads like this one. There are so many tips and all that people share that I would have never thought to try. I give the ones that make sense to me a shot. Some work, others don't. If nothing else, it is nice to read everyone else's posts and realize that it doesn't matter whether you are trying to lose 10 pounds or 100, the struggles are almost always the same.

Shawn, it is so good that you were thinking ahead on your pizza choice! Was the specialty pizza you ordered pretty good? I've seen those on the menu but have never tried one. Lean Cuisine pizzas have almost 400 calories and I bet for just 100 more, Pizza Hut's are a lot more satisfying.

I have done really well today. We've got yucky weather and haven't been able to get outside much. These are always my weak days - nothing to do, boredom sets in, and the munching begins. So, I'm feeling pretty proud of myself that I've stayed in line today. Now, of course, when I say there is nothing to do I mean nothing FUN to do. I've got a whole pile of clothes to fold that would keep me plenty busy for a while!

I don't know what we will be having for dinner tonight but I've only had 500 calories so far today (egg white omelette and OJ for breakfast, black bean soup for lunch) so I have good bit of room to work with. I may just make DH take us all out to dinner. If I'm not going to fold clothes I may as well take a break from cooking too!

Hope you all have a great afternoon!

Tricia

Countin calories is HARD for me!! I really don't have a problem working out..It is just starting that is HARD!! Once I start I can do it every morning. It only takes 30 min or so out of my day!!

My weakness is fast food!! I love burgers and fries!! I think about what kind of example am I setting for my girls!!

Ok. I won't be on here this weekend!! My DH doesn't like me online when he is home!!

So Monday I am getting up and going to work out before signing online..Then I can come here and say " I pushed play" and let you all know what I worked out to. I have so many workout tapes !!

shyla2001 04-01-2005 04:10 PM

Kellie - yes, Carson's fever is down; she's not been too bad today - A little crankier than normal, but nothing serious. Thanks for asking! And you're welcome for the invitation to join us here! I really do hope it helps us all!

Tricia - yes, the CarbTracker pizza was pretty satisfying. It really did help me to not overeat, too! Yay!

Pam - have a great weekend! Don't overdo it, just b/c you know you're starting on Monday! Get your healthy stuff into the house!

shyla2001 04-01-2005 10:25 PM

Oh, ya'll are gonna be so proud of me! I've been tracking everything in FitWatch, and had 2079 calories today (if I finish this small bag of sunflower seeds, which I fully intend to do). A little high, but not unreasonable. My MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT was that we had spaghetti for dinner, but I had spaghetti squash with mine instead of pasta! yay! saved me TONS of calories, I'm sure! and it wasn't bad! (this was my first time trying it!) OK, just had to come check in! Gnight ladies!

lucky 04-02-2005 09:41 AM

That is great Shawn! And I think whether or not 2079 is a little high is relative. I know, for me, my pre-weight loss totals had to have been ASTRONOMICAL. I mean if I could lose 2 lbs a week on 1800 calories a day, and 3500 calories make a pound - well, let's just say I don't even want to THINK about how many calories I must have been eating to work my way up to 214! And I rarely did a thing to burn a single one of them!

I am proud of myself too. We ordered pizza last night. We don't order out often but when we do I usually have a lean cuisine or something. Not because I think a couple of pieces of pizza are too bad but because I know I won't stop at a couple of pieces. You know, it is the third, fourth, and sometimes fifth piece that will do ya in! Anyway, I decided to go to the gym just after we ordered. It turned out to be a pretty good trick - I was hungry but exercise will usually curb my appetite for maybe half an hour or so thanks to the water I drink during my work out. So, once I got home, I didn't have that famished feeling and the pizza was still warm but wasn't in the ooey, gooey, just delivered state so I didn't feel the need to dive in and enjoy piece after piece while it was still hot. I took a que from Shawn and made a small salad and looked online for the nutritional information before I fixed my plate. I was able to have 4 pieces of the vegetable one and one piece of the pepperoni/sausage (these were dominos thin crust and are cut into small squares) and still ended my day with just over 1500 calories. It was a real feat for me because it has been so long since I had eaten ordered pizza. I wasn't 100% confident that I'd be able to control myself. But, I did, so YAY for me.

Shawn, I meant to ask you if you eat the sunflower seeds that are already shelled? I know you said they were one of your regular munchies. There was a girl that I used to work with who loved them and ate them all of the time. She switched to the kind that she had to shell and eat. She said it slowed her down and she didn't eat as many at a time. Plus she said she was less likely to snack on the mindlessly since she had to put a little more effort into eating them.

Something I've been doing for about two weeks is using Benefiber a few times a day. I stir it into my morning coffe and juice and then maybe once more at some point during the day. I started using it because I knew I wasn't getting nearly enough fiber in my diet. It may just be mind over matter but I swear I feel fuller, longer since I've been using it. Plus, I feel a lot lighter in the gut - if that makes sense. I never felt bloated before but I must have been because I can really tell a difference. I've noticed it isn't nearly as hard to suck my stomach in - which I have to do often! Anyway, it isn't gritty at all and it doesn't make the drinks I put it in thick or anything. It might be worth a try if anyone is having a problem with not feeling full with fewer calories.

I hope you all have great day. Let's all keep up the good work!

Tricia

shyla2001 04-02-2005 09:53 AM

Good morning Tricia - great job on the pizza & working out! You're right, my cal intake was REALLYNOTBAD compared to what I HAVE been doing pre-dieting. If you look at it in that context, it was GREAT!

Yes, I eat the sunflower seeds WITH shell -- I like them so much b/c it's a way to keep my mouth busy without eating a whole lot - it does take alot of time, but that's why I like them. Slows me down! haha But my tongue has salt-burn on it right now from eating them so often! hehe I like getting the lower sodium ones, but they don't come in indiv packages, so that just won't work for me.

You guys have a great day!

shyla2001 04-03-2005 12:23 AM

Another good day here - ending the day with 2091 calories, even with a martini and soft tacos for dinner! yay!

lucky 04-03-2005 12:20 PM

Shawn :cp:

You are doing great! Are you a mexican food junkie? That is one of my downfalls. I love the stuff - anything spicy or cheesy. And Italian food. I could never do one of the low carb plans because I couldn't survive without pasta.

I did okay yesterday too. I ended with just over 1600 calories. But, I had the munchies all yesterday afternoon. I don't know what brought them on because I wasn't really hungry. I just had the urge to shovel snacks in my mouth. Luckily, I hadn't been to the grocery store in a week so I couldn't do too much damage. I did make it to the gym so I think I managed to burn the extra calories anyway.

We've got beautiful weather so we are going to spend the day outside and enjoy it. Tomorrow is my official weigh in day for the week so I'm going to do my darndest to stay out of the kitchen! I hope everyone has a great day!

shyla2001 04-03-2005 11:37 PM

Well, I majorly UNDERATE today...... I only had 1082 calories...... I had lite cinnamon rolls for breakfast (3), and didn't have time to put them in fitwatch, so I figured the calories were sky-high. So the rest of the day, I didn't eat much. Skipped lunch (had fruit), and had a lite dinner. Then I put things in fitwatch tonight at 9pm, and realized what I'd done, but didn't want to eat that late at night.........

Plus, I got out & walked today from my house to my mom's house, and then with my sister & nephew to the park and back ...... so it was about 40 mins of walking altogether. :yay:

How are you girls doing? We haven't heard from several of you over the weekend! Hope to hear from you soon!

lucky 04-04-2005 12:02 AM

Shawn, I did almost the exact same thing today! Our weather was beautiful. The kids and I spent almost all day outside so I barely nibbled at all. Plus, DH let me sleep in this morning and that on top of the time change messed up my hunger schedule. I was right at 1000 calories too. I didn't notice until I went to the grocery store after we put the kids to bed. All of a sudden I realized that I was really, really hungry. I assumed it was just because I was surrounded by food. But, what do you know, I got home and went to fitday to put in my walk and noticed I was under 1000 calories. I ate 1/2 a cup of raisin bran with a 1/4 cup of milk because I didn't want to go to bed starving.

But, hey, I'll take it - much better than realizing I OVERATE!

Are any of you from the Ohio area? My in-laws live there and woke up to 8 inches of snow this morning. They emailed us pictures this morning and I almost felt guilty frolicing aroung in 75 degree weather!

KellieB 04-04-2005 09:13 AM

Hi Ladies! It was a beautiful weekend. I never turned on the computer. We played outside both days and tried to get some things done around the house. They came and poured our concrete, so that was great. Maybe we can use our garage sometime soon!

I did pretty well over the weekend. About 1500 calories each day. That included steak on Saturday and an ice cream bar. Last night I had a little ice cream too. I love that I can figure out my recipes for calories and things. I am counting everything these days. Even the couple mini marshmallows I had when the girls had snack the other day!

Sounds like everyone else is doing well. Shawn ~ Did you mention that we were going to try to weigh on Wednesdays? I guess that was when I started, so maybe that is when I should do it every week.

Tricia ~ What part of Ohio? I have a friend that is originally from there. I did not realize they got snow. It was beautiful...in the 70s here over the weekend. Not typical for April in IL. Oh well, we will take it when we can get it!

Well, I think I am going to head off to town. I need to get things to paint this afternoon.

Kellie Sue

lucky 04-04-2005 12:12 PM

Kellie, my in-laws live in Cortland. I don't know where that is in relation to the bigger cities, though. We go through Cinncinati and Columbus when we drive there but I can't remember how far out they were after that.

You are doing great! I also like keeping up with every bite. If nothing else, I am always surprised by just how much I can eat for only 1500-1800 calories when I put a little thought and effort into it. Even treats, like you mentioned.

I think where I failed in the past was having an all or nothing attitude. If it wasn't "diet" food I wouldn't eat it and that would cause me to give up pretty quickly. And, if I didn't exercise vigorously every day I ended up feeling like it was all a lost cause. Of couse, if I did work that hard every day I burned out after only a week or so. Thank goodness, I've finally gotten the knack of something that works for me. The only regret I have is that I didn't figure all of this out sooner - it would have been great to be closer to my goal weight by the time summer rolled around. Oh, well, there is always next year.

I am wondering, how do you other mommies feel about your tummies after carrying twins? I have lost a good number of inches there but it is still sooooo stretchy and jello-like. I know being fat never helped, but I am afraid after carrying twins I either have to learn to live with it or resign to the idea of having surgery one day. I'm not really sure it bothers me THAT much. Although, I might feel differently once I'm am happier with my overall appearence. Mine were delivered via C-section (my other deliveries weren't) so I know I'm probably always going to have a little pooch from that. I don't know, I guess I don't know how bad it will all seem to me once I am at a comfortable weight. I mean, after being obese, even that stretchy skin will seem like an improvement. Has anyone else thought ahead to how you will feel about your tummy once you've lost the weight?

I hope everyone has another successful day!

Tricia

JaneH 04-04-2005 06:35 PM

Hey girls,
You guys are off to a great start.
I have been on vacation and have not done well at all, plus I hurt my back so all this great weather is doing me no good. I can't get out and walk :(

I promise to still weigh in on Wed. IS that what we are planning to do?
I still have to develope a plan for weight loss. I have figured out what to do yet. I'm just trying to make better choices and excercise more.

shyla2001 04-04-2005 06:42 PM

Yes, ladies, I think Weds will be our official weigh in days...... I have to tell ya, I'm excited about this! I've done so good this week, and I'm hoping to see it on the scale... but I tell ya, when/if I don't see it on the scale, I get SO FRUSTRATED and give up so easy! So if Weds don't look good for me, I'll REALLY need encouragement from ya'll.

Jane, if you can find some time, take a few mins to check out Fitwatch - I really think that's a big part of what's keeping me on track.... because I can always see where I'm at calorie-wise, (and even by % of carbs, fat, protein, etc) and make adjustments for the rest of the day. I'm so glad you ladies told me about that! It's awesome!

About the "twin skin" -- I'm hoping it looks a bit better when I get the fat from underneath it...... (wishful thinking?) Plus, I need my stretchmarks to fade some. My stomache looks crazy right now! Like a road map!!

Have a great night!

lucky 04-04-2005 10:30 PM

For those of us with a sweet tooth, I just tried an awesome product. They are Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches. They are pretty big, 130 calories and 2 grams of fat. They come 6 to a pack, half with chocolate ice cream, the other half vanilla. I can't beleive how good these things are. I had the chocolate and, I swear, it tasted like I was cheating!

I made it to the gym and did 50 minutes of cardio (bike and elliptical) plus about 35 minutes on the weights. I am worn out, but in a good way.
I've ended the day at about 1300 calories - half a bagel with light cream cheese, veggie sausage, 1/2 cup of OJ for breakfast, veggie burritos made with black beans, corn, onion, and guacamole for lunch, and dinner was steak, pasta salad, and a green salad. I had Munchies Ultimate cheddar snack mix between lunch and dinner, and the skinny cow ice cream sandwich just now.
Anytime I can come in under 1500 calories and feel like I've eaten plenty plus not sacrificed anything good I claim a good day. So, I declare today a good day! :D

There is another group that I post with and we have weekly (or bi-weekly) "challenges". I think they help keep me accountable to the group - whether I actually lose any weight or not. If anyone is interested, maybe we could start one here with Wednesday's weigh in? Maybe something like 2 lbs in 2 weeks? It might be fun to see how much we can lose together. Anybody up for one?

Tricia

shyla2001 04-04-2005 10:47 PM

Good job working out today! My little one is worse (sick) and I had to take her to the doc today - she has a viral infection - poor baby! She got such a runny nose & a nasty cough! :frown: So I didn't even consider working out today - I spent alot of time babying her. But I DID eat well. 2047 calories (that sounds like so much, compared to you Tricia! but I guess that's okay? it will be less when I lose some?)

re: the skinny cows, what's it sweetened with? real sugar? I've had them before, but I don't remember. I don't use artificial sweeteners, so if they have real sugar, I am going to get some - I just hope I can stay away from eating the whole container at once!!! (j/k - I'm doing good! I'm not gonna blow it!)

re: the challenge, I don't typically participate in those, but sure - what the hay! Let's do it! I'm game! But this will be my first, so I'm not leading it! haha

KellieB 04-04-2005 11:09 PM

Shawn ~ Sorry to hear that Carson is not feeling better. Did the dr. give her anything or do you have to ride it out? Sounds like you are doing well with eating though! Congrats!

My day has gone well. I thought I was going off track. I have had the munchies....but it has not been too bad. Even with the munchies, mostly fruit and a couple vanilla wafers, and 2 chicken soft tacos for lunch, I still came in at only 1120 calories. That does not seem possible. But of course when I put things in and see it, then I think....Well, I must be hungry if that is all I ate today! Stupid mind playing tricks! ;) I guess I never realized how much that one little handful or one extra piece of something adds up over the course of the day.

I think Wed. will be a great day to weigh. I hope to see some progress. I know much of it will be water weight. And Shawn, I hear you about getting discouraged and giving up easily. That is my biggest downfall. If I did not see any progress, I would always think well it is not working so why bother. I will be your cheerleader to keep you going!! :cheer:

Kellie

lucky 04-04-2005 11:13 PM

Shawn, I checked the label and as far as I can tell sugar is the only sweetner. As for the challenge - it doesn't have to be anything official or kept up with. Just sort of a minimum goal for us all to shoot for.

I think your calorie range is fine. Remember, too, that I stagger my calories daily so sometimes they are low - in the 1000 range and sometimes they are as high as 2000. My overall aim is to average 1500-1800 each week. I usually manage right at a 1500 average though. 1800 is rare, but things come up - parties, dinners out, etc. and I never want to feel guilty about participating in them so this works well for me. The funny thing is that the longer I do this the harder it is to consume the higher number of calories. Mostly because I've gotten so good at finding foods that I can eat a lot of with relatively few calories that I find myself stuffed before I've reached the target. I guess that is a good thing? Better than the other way around I suppose.

So, sorry to hear about your little one. It can be so tough when they are ill. As horrible as this may sound, when one of mine gets sick I secretly hope that they all get it. I would rather baby them all at once and be done with it than have to baby them one at a time for three weeks (four if DH comes down with it too!). Of course, I prefer it if nobody gets sick at all!

JaneH 04-05-2005 11:08 AM

OK, I'm a little confused. If you don't mind - tell me what your name is on Twing so I can figure out who I am talking too. :)

Oh, I am going to look at fitwatch today!

lucky 04-05-2005 01:08 PM

Jane - I don't know if it is my posts that confused you but, just in case, I've never posted on Twing. I just happened across the thread that Shawn started here.

KellieB 04-05-2005 01:10 PM

Jane ~ I am on twing as mandatwins. I don't post alot, but some.

busymom2four 04-05-2005 01:34 PM

Hi can I join?

Hi there ladies. My name is Lori. I have been trying to lose weight for a couple of months now and was hoping I might be able to join your group. A little info on me...I have four amazing, adorable, brilliant children :). The oldest is a 6 year old boy, I have twin 3 years old girls and a 1 year old girl. Having 4 kids in 5 years has really taken a toll on my poor body. I weighed 130 when I got pregnant with my first son. When I started my weight loss goal on January 15th, I weighed...gulp...193. Eek! I am now down to 168! Hooray! I've lost 25 pounds. It honestly hasn't been that hard. It's amazing. My ultimate goal is back to 130. I have sort of hit a plateau lately and need some help.

This is how I've done it. First...LOVE Fitday.com! I log ALL my calories there. I try to stay between 1200 and 1500 and lower than 30% fat. I did a bunch of research on the fat percentage and everything I found said that we should stay at around 30% fat if we are dieting or not. The research says that if we go much lower than that we are much more likely to have binge days. I guess our bodies don't feel completely full. It also says that they have not found much benefit from lowering the fat% from that...we don't lose weight faster. All that said, lol, I have a hard time hitting 30%. I usually aim for between 20% and 30%. I lost 20 pounds without doing ANY exercise. Since I hit my plateau, I've added exercise to the mix. My husband bought me a treadmill (gotta love him :) ). I walk/run for 55 minutes every morning while I watch T.V. (and the three little girls run rampant through the house  . My oldest is in first grade now so he's gone.

Anyway, I need some support for every area of my life!! Can I join? Please, oh, please?

Lori

Oh, P.S. I read through the entire thread, and I would LOVE to do weekly challenges! Also, my husband and I are looking to get pregnant again at the end of July so I really need to get into gear! I want to be at least 140 by then (can I lose 28 pounds by then? Sigh. Probably not.)

busymom2four 04-05-2005 01:42 PM

Oh...another thing
I had my husband take pictures of me in bra and panties last night for before and after stuff. I WISH I had taken a picture at the beginning before I lost the 25 pounds. Oh,well. I still have almost 40 pounds to lose so that's better than nothing. Anyway, do any of you have the majority of your weight around your belly? I swear all 40 pounds are around my stomach, lol. My shoulders, arms, legs, etc look pretty good. My stomach looks like I'm still pregnant...only this time with triplets. Ugh. It is so ugly. Here's an dark secret of mine...I still wear pregnancy underwear and pants sometimes. Pants of mine fit great in the legs, I just can't button them. Having the pooch in the pants helps me fit into them. Of couse, I NEVER wear pregnancy tops or people would think I AM pregnant. Sigh. Do any of you have the same problem? Also, I made my husband take away my scale the other day. He is going to give it back once a week only. I can't control myself and get depressed with the wild fluctuations. Also...a warning for those of you who are new to this: during your time of the month, the scale is your enemy!!! I often don't lose any that week or even gain a pound. However, as soon as good old AF goes away I lose a couple pounds in a day. Just a warning. My time is supposed to be next week so I might not participate in weigh in that week...we'll see. Thanks ladies.

Lori

Pammie40 04-05-2005 03:20 PM

Hi Lori...another Twin Mommy..that is great..

Ok guys, I kind of started today..Here is what I have decided to do..When I take my 4 yr. to preschool I have to go right by our High School. They have a track around the football field. My DS tells me that 4 laps is a mile..I called the school and they have no problem w/ me walking of the mornings..

So today I dropped off DD and went to the school. My sis met me and we walked two miles in around 40 min. I think!!

I bought some lean cuisene meals for lunch around here..So, I am off :)

Everyone seems to be doing great!!

Glad to see JANE back from her trip!!

As for the twin skin, I am terrified to see it after I start losing!!

Lori, I look pregnant w/ triplets as well..

I looked in the mirror yesterday and my legs remind me of elephant legs..so huge and lots of dimples and well, just YUCKY!!

If I can get my eating under control and drink more water I think I can do it..

QUESTION: My DH thinks you can safely lose 5 llbs a week..What do you guys think??

Shawn: How is the baby??
Tricia: Thanks for all the support and input!!
Lori: My goal is 130 as well...you are doing great!!

I hope to stay caught up here from here on out.

BTW: I popped in my Walk Away the Pounds DVD yesterday morning and WATCHED it..NO I didn't get up to do it..I just WATCHED it while I done other things..I know if I push play, I need to get up and get it done!!!

shyla2001 04-05-2005 03:35 PM

Welcome Lori! So glad you joined us!!! yay! It's always fun meeting new twin mommies!

I made myself give away my maternity clothes - I didn't want them anymore! (okay, well, I still have ONE pair of black crop pants that i wear with the elastic waist -- but they fit so good! hahaha) I am always afraid somebody is going to come up to me and say "oh, how far along are you?" ---- that happened to my sis post-preg. I would just burst into tears! How depressing!! hehe

Pam, it sounds like you've got a great start & plan! That's awesome! I'm proud of you! Keep up the good work! And btw, your DH is crazy! You might could lose 5 lbs/week for the first week or two (water weight), but after that, I think SAFE weight loss is only .5-1.5 lbs/week - is that right ladies? Plus, if you're exercising, you're building muscle, which weighs more than fat..... so the weight loss is slower. (thus my frustrations all the time) As I tell my stepson -- PATIENCE YOUNG GRASSHOPPER! If only I'd listen to my own advice! hahaha

Carson is still coughing / snotty / etc -- and Jordan has been uncharacteristically (sp?) fussy today, so I'm wondering if she's coming down with it. And my throat hurts a bit, so I may be getting it, too *ugh* Joy of joys!!

Still on track for today! Good job! (patting myself on the back)

lucky 04-05-2005 03:52 PM

Pammie, I think 2 pounds a week is a more reasonable expectation. 5 pounds might drop off the first week, maybe three or four the second but most of that is going to be water weight as your body adjusts to your new habits. Is it possible? Probably. But I imagine eating as few calories as would be required to make up a 5 lb weight loss isn't sustainable (3500 calories = 1 lb, so you are talking about having to create a 2500 calorie deficit each DAY through diet and exercise). Eating so little also means that your body is going to resort to the most viable energy source - your muscle - and you want to keep (and build) as much of that as you can as more muscle means a higher metabolism. A higher metablolism means burning calories more efficiently thereby making weight loss a bit easier in the long run.

WELCOME LORI!

I hope everyone is having another successful day. I have an awful case of the munchies. So, rather than eating lunch today I just had a few closely spaced snacks. I'm still okay calorie-wise but eating that often makes me FEEL like I've gone off of plan and I get that underlying twang of guilt. I have to keep telling myself that it is all in my head. I just keep checking fitday to remind myself that I haven't consumed anymore than I would have if I'd eaten a regular lunch.

We have another beautiful day here so we are off to enjoy the weather while we can. The kids and I planted a small vegetable garden and it is time to water it. They get so excited when we start to see tomatoes, peppers, etc. pop out and they love to pick them when it is time. But I'll be darned if I can get them to actually EAT them - and that is why we started growing them in the first place. I thought they'd be more likely to eat (or at least try) vegetables that they had grown themselves. Year after year I just keep trying maybe it will eventually work. We threw in some strawberry plants this year - surely they'll give those a try!

Have a thin day!

Well, I did good today, but I also got a small dipped cone from Dairy Queen!! Had I been thinking, I would have gone & gotten skinny cows, b/c I could have had THREE of those instead, for the same calories!!! (approximation)

I still am coming in at 1800 calories for the day, though! yay!

Also, tonight I had DH take pics of me in just bra & panties! (borrowed mom's digital camera - I know the people at Wolf camera DON'T want to see that! hahaha). I hate looking at those pics -- poor DH! haha! But that will be inspiration, won't it?!? It will be good to see how I change, too, so that once I get skinny I remember how I used to look, and can try real hard to not do it again!

shyla2001 04-05-2005 10:45 PM

Ques: for those of you who do it, how often do you measure yourself & take new pics??

busymom2four 04-06-2005 01:34 AM

LOL! I only have a second, but I had to pop in and say that I ALSO HAD A SMALL DIPPED CONE AT DAIRY QUEEN TONIGHT! I still finished the day at 1500 calories. Anyway, I have tons more to write, but I must get to bed. I'll write in the morning.

Good morning ladies! Yesterday was a pretty good day. I even bought the girls a Krispy Kreme donut when I was out running errands and did not have one bite!! :cp: I had soup for lunch and a chicken breast with black bean salsa for dinner. It was yummy! So, I ended the day with 1300 calories. The biggest thing for me was that I had 29% protein. That is something that I usually don't get very much of.

Well, I stepped on the scale this morning. Can we say water weight loss!?! 6 pounds. I was quite surprised since I don't feel any different. It does not help that I started my period. But since that only comes around once every 3 months, I am not too upset. My biggest thing is to control my constant urge to munch this week!

Shawn~ Sounds like you are doing well. How is Carson feeling? It is great you took the photo. I don't know if I am that brave.

Pam ~ Sounds like you are off to a great start. The walking will be great. That is great that it is on your way. It makes a difference when things are convenient.

Question for you ladies....does your husband or significant other have issues with their weight too? My dh is tall and skinny and does not always understand how hard it can be. He is supportive of me, but I get frustrated that he can eat a lot and not gain much if any.

It is suppose to rain around here today. Not sure if we will get outside or not. The weekend is suppose to be gorgeous again. They are coming to start working on seeding our lawn this weekend. I can't wait to have grass!!

Have a great day!
Kellie

Thanks for the reminder to weigh in this a.m. -- I've lost 3 lbs, but am not that thrilled about that..... it's just that I'm only back to where I was pre-Easter, so it's like I'm NOW at my starting point. Plus, I gain & lose 5-8 lbs so easy, that until I get under 210, I'm not gonna REALLY believe I'm losing!! Sorry for the negativity, but just need to share where I'm at! Oh, it's THAT time of month for me too - so maybe I'll drop alot next week?

Carson still sounds awful, and I am fighting off trying to catch it, although I'm feeling worse today than I did yesterday. I keep taking my prenatals, hoping not to catch it!

Yes, DH is smaller than me, and I HATE that. He's a smart man, and doesn't comment on my weight. :) But he really doesn't eat that much, either....

KellieB 04-06-2005 09:45 AM

Congrats on the 3 lbs Shawn! I hear you about getting to a point to feel like you are really losing weight and not just water or normal fluctuations. I hate this time of month. I have horrible cramps and usually do not want to do anything. I hope that I can break that cycle.

I hope you can fight off the cold that Carson has. It sure has been going around here lately. It seems like it takes forever to get rid of too!

Good Wednesday morning ladies!
Kellie-6 pounds is GREAT! I also lost a bunch my first week. Even though I knew some of it was water, it was still okay. I didn't gain any of it back. In fact for the first 2 or 3 weeks I lost quite rapidly. After that it leveled off to 1 to 2 pounds a week. By the way, that is what is recommended for optimal weight loss..1 to 2 pounds a week. Sometimes it seems so slow that way, but just remember that is 104 pounds in a year. (Pammie...5 pounds seems like WAY too much :) )

As for your question...my DH is also tall and skinny! He WISHES he could gain weight. He only weighs 155. I can't wait until I weight less than him  . He can eat whatever he wants. However, he is not a big sweets lover so that helps me some. He is also extremely supportive. He constantly tells me how beautiful I am and that I look fantastic. Of course, he did this BEFORE I lost the weight too, so I don't think it means much ;) . When I started this program, I told him that I needed his support. We have a daily check-in at night where he asks if I met my goals for the day. It helps to know that I am accountable to someone.

Shyla-3 pounds is also amazing if you are having TOM. I usually don't lose any at all that week since we retain water a lot. I use to measure and weigh EVERY DAY...if not every hour, lol. However, I made my husband take away my scale and now he is only going to give it back on Wednesdays for weigh in.

Jawsmom-Funny you mention the guilt. I get that too, even when I am within my calories and fat % for the day. I will eat a big old piece of chocolate cake. It won't send me over the edge of my daily goals, but I feel bad about eating it. The funny thing is...I know that I HAVE to be able to eat like that in order to stay on my plan. Basically, the way I do it, I don't really deny myself anything I REALLY want. I just have to adjust whatever else I eat, or eat yummy stuff in small portions. I don't think I would be able to stick with it if I denied myself of every treat. I have obviously been doing fine this way, but I still feel guilty *shrug*.

Okay, ladies...I weighed in this morning and I've lost a pound! Hooray. That is good for me because I use to weigh on Sunday's so last Sunday I was 168 and now I'm 167. I feel really good about that.

I like to set mini goals and I hope some of you will join me. My current mini goal is to be at 160 for Mother's Day. That is 7 pounds in 4 1/2 weeks. Hmmm. Let's see. That would be losing a little over 1.5 pounds per week. I CAN DO IT! Would anyone else like to set a mini-goal? It is much easier to think I can lose 10 pounds 7 times, than to think I can lose 70 pounds! That is my motto. So. Anyone game?

:dancer:

Congratulations Shawn and Kellie!

My official weigh in day is Monday. So as not to confuse myself (and that is soooo easy to do :dizzy: ) I'll just report my Monday weights here on Wednesdays. I am afraid if I stepped on the scale Monday and Wednesday I'd just get frustrated. Frustion once a week is plenty for me! So, my starting point for today is 164.

Isn't it amazing how many calories are in those dipped cones? I bought some the the shell type chocolate that is used without looking at the label. When I started to make my own dipped cone I noticed that 1 Tablespoon was a serving and it had like 200 calories! :yikes: Apparantly, shortening is used to make the chocolate harden as it cools and that is what make it so high in fat and calories. I never had any idea! Which explains how I ended up fat in the first place - I mean who would have thought something so little could be so fattening?

Kudos to both of you for fitting in a special treat and still keeping your overall calories in check. I honestly believe that is the key to being able to lose weight and keep it off.

Kudos to you, too, Kellie. Passing up a Krispy Kreme is no easy task! Not long ago I bought some for Will's class. There ended up being 3 left which I brought home. I kept finding myself wandering past them and finally decided I would have just one. I took a bite - then dumped all three of them. I knew there was going to be no way I'd eat one and not move on to the second and third. Sadly, I had to put them in the garbage disposal because I was afraid if I just threw the box away I'd convince myself they weren't garbage if they were still in the box and untouched by the rest of the trash.

My DH does not struggle with his weight. He isn't as active as he used to be so he has gotten a little "softer" in the past ten years but he is by no means overweight. And it is frustrating to watch him eat whatever he wants and not have to worry about the consequences. Oh, well, that is the way the cookie crumbles I guess. He is very supportive and is good about telling me when he notices a difference in my shape. Plus, he pushes me to go to the gym-not just because I am trying to lose weight but because he knows that I enjoy it as "me" time. It helps a lot not having to always work around the kids' schedules and I appreciate him handling bathtime, tooth brushing, and bedtime stories to that I can make some of my favorite classes at night.
I will say that I am finally a good 20 pounds lighter than him and that was a really big accomplishment. It always bothered me that I weighed more than my husband (but obviously not enough that I did something about it!).

I hope everyone has another great day!

Tricia

Sounds like everyone is doing great!! I have not done my workout yet today! I was running late this morning and couldn't stop to walk, I had a meeting!!

I think after I pick up DD from school I will take her to the park and walk while she plays!!

I am stil fighting w/ the eating part!! I am doing better, but I know I could do alot better!! I have not had any fast food all week!! That is a biggie for me!!

My DH hates the way I look!! He is on me all the time about my weight. I have the mind set now that I am doing this for ME ME ME!!!

It is such a slow process!!!

Lori, the mini goals sound GREAT!!! ....so I say I can lose 10 lbs. by mothers day, would that be to much???

busymom2four 04-06-2005 01:20 PM

Hi again, ladies!
Okay, I just finished exercising. I went 70 minutes and 4 miles on the treadmill! :tread: Hooray. That is my best yet. I usually go for about 45 minutes and 3 or 3 1/2 miles. Did you know that the newest health guidelines that recently came out by the US government say that you should exercise 90 minutes a day to lose weight?!? :blah: :blah: Whatever, lol. I can never get in that much every day. Don't these government people know that I have tons of kids  ?

Pammie! Don't listen to your DH. Sheesh. How old are your twins anyway? I am so glad that you are going to join me on the mini-goal! If you lose 2 pounds a week, you could lose 9 pounds by then. You really shouldn't go much above 2 pounds a week (I guess when you go above that, you body tends to gain it back very quickly when you stop dieting). HOWEVER, if you are just starting your weight loss, you could probably do it fine. I lost 10 pounds in the first 3 weeks, with water weight and what not. So, I think 10 pounds would be fine. What are you going to do to get there? I am:

Eat: 1200-1500 calories a day and 20-30% fat
Exercise: 45 minutes, 6 days a week
Drink: 64 ounces of water a day (I have a hard time getting all my water in)
ALSO: I don't DRINK any calories, I hate wasting them on drink...so I drink water or occasionally diet soda

Okay, two questions for you ladies...
1. If you were to want more kids, would you want twins again. My husband and I want 6 kids. I know...we're :dizzy: Anyway, we have four now and plan to start trying to get pregnant the end of July. I would really like to have twins again. I think my husband would DIE if he heard that, lol.

2. How often do you and your DH get out alone on dates?

We can do it ladies!!!!

Lori

P.S. Oh, by the way, Tricia, congrats on weighing less than your hubby! I can't wait for that day. My husband has never known my true weight. At the hospital and stuff I made him leave the room before I gave that info to the nurse *grin* He was such a good sport about it, though.

P.P.S I have the nutrition facts of all the fast food places on my favorites (and many items entered into my custom foods). I generally only get chicken salads at any fast food joint. I also like going to Applebee's when we actually "go out" because they have their WeightWatchers menu. That small dipped cone was 340 calories. However it DID have 17 grams of fat! Eek! That kicked me up to 33% for the day, but I don't mind going over the fat% occasionally. I like that on fitday.com I can look at reports for over the past two weeks or the past month, etc and see that overall I'm doing great.

shyla2001 04-06-2005 03:35 PM

Lori - good job on the exercising! that's a long time!

1. Would I want more twins? hahaha. We aren't planning to have anymore - I have 2 stepchildren, so 4 total is plenty for us! I actually miscarried twins prior to these, so we keep saying if we try again, we'll have twins again! (no, none of these were IVF, etc). My grandmother had 2 sets of twins! I can't imagine! My DH says we'll double it next time & have quads -- yeh, whatever!

2. I'd say we go out on dates once every 3 weeks or so. We leave them either with my mom, or my best friend who's single & has no kids. Although last date, I was PATHETIC and after eating Red Lobster (crab fettucine and having a few drinks), all I wanted to do is come home & sleep! We didn't even fool around! hahaha I was EXHAUSTED! Anyway - our church has always preached how important "date nights" are (to keep the marriage strong), so we've had it beaten into our head for years, so we're trying to do it!
