Jane 09-02-2004 07:50 AM

Good morning, Ladies!!

Marti - I also took a picture of my picture. That works best with the flash turned off, I've found, lol. Yours is so cute! I do hope all of the other JLs post theirs.

Julie - hope you get some rest today! You've been working awfully hard!

Mindee - have you checked into the WIC program? It is not for "poor" people, but for just about anyone who asks, and they will help with formula, cereal, juices, peanut butter, etc. My DD and her DH both work, but with prices being what they are, they get WIC for their 3 children. Btw, I almost always exercise at night, a few hours before bed, then take a shower to relieve the muscles.

Shanna - I totally forgot that this is Labor Day weekend coming up!!!! Thanks for reminding me. YAY for 5 days off for you. :cp: Maybe you and Marti can spend some time together. Btw, I sure hope you post your Senior picture! You are a lovely woman, and I'm sure you were a cute teen.

Jen, Cristi, Susan, Sue, Barb, Kathy, Katiecat.... Hello  and please pop in!!

Today is shopping day and I don't even have the menus done for next week, let alone the grocery list.

Not much else going on...

BBL,

SqueakMouse 09-02-2004 08:13 AM

Jana: I hope I get to see marti too. I suggest making lunch together and I cam up with pretty good meal plan, hopefully marti will like it too. As to the senior picture, ummm, wasn't a cute girl after I hit 6th grade. All down hill from then. I have to admit though, without any smugness or conceit that i was a darn cute little girl. Dang puberty ruined everything. hee heee I senior picture doesn't even look like me now. My boyfriend said he wouldn't even have recognized me if I hadn't . That picture is very embarrassing for me, but since you are all my gals, I will try and suck it up and ask my mom for one. LOL
Glad I could remind you of labor day, hope you have a nice one

FrouFrou 09-02-2004 11:07 AM

Good Morning~

Not much going on in my little corner of the world. Went to Lowes last night to see what they had for trees, & shrubs. Getting ready to plant a couple in the back but not sure what I want, except a birch for sure. Today V decided to take the day off. Originally we were headed to the cemetery but decided to do it another day. Then we were going to go to the zoo, dying to see the new Gorilla exhibit that they spent $4,000,000.00 on. It is already getting warm and I had to get my grocery shopping done so by the time I get ready it will be too hot. So decided to go to the movies-again. Well, again for me but not V. He works so much, doesn't do much of anything except rest when he gets home. Anyway, going to go see The Manchurian Candidate. I'll let ya know if it's good. Has to be right? Anything with Denzel in it has to be good. Anyhoo...

Marti~Suspect Zero is a thriller about an FBI agent who is chasing a serial killer who appears to be hunting other serial killers with Carrie-Anne Moss, Ben Kingsley, Aaron Eckhart among others. They were the main actors. I had never seen the previews of it or even heard about it. DD is the one who wanted to see it and had seen previews on tv. It was actually good, or I liked it.

Mindee~ditto what Jana said about WIC. DS asst. is on WIC and she works. Geez, I couldn't imagine the price of formula now days-I think you would need help with that. It's something to think about.

RosieKate~what about OSHA?! My thoughts exactly. But DS was told by this guy that he is not responsible for him or anyone getting hurt on the job, which is a bunch of BS. He's (DS) basically working this job to get the experience to get on with a reputable company. The first day of work when he came home and told me about this job I didn't like it and of course told him so. It's what he wants to do so...

Jana~glad you guys had a fun time at the park.

Shanna~glad you finally get some much needed days off! ENJOY them girly!

Angie~hoping you and the family are having a fun time in Cuba!

Susan~missing you around here girly. Hope you and the kiddos are fine. Check in when you can.

Hi to everyone else!

Have a great day ladies!

Marti 09-02-2004 12:01 PM

Morning ladies--

Shanna--Try and hold the excitment! How did you get 5 days off in the first place? Is it because of Labor Day weekend? Hope you get to enjoy all your days...and I hope you and Byron like the bike trail down here.

Jana--How are you feeling after half way through the week of doing the CORE? I'm not sure if I would be able to do it. I may start it...but I doubt I would finish it. I'm sure you'll see a loss this saturday! You and Katy. And whoever else is doing this with you. Oh, before I forget...Jhanai told me that she may go ahead and send a letter soon, I told her that it would be nice if she did so Dani wouldn't have to wait.

Cristi--Movie sounds good. It's been so long since I've gone to the theatres. The last movie was the one Jhanai & I went to, Shrek2. And it's been a REALLY long time since James & I went to the movies.....I think that last movie we went and saw together was "The Lord of the Rings" the first one! So it's been awhile.

Angie--Oh I hope you're coming home before Hurricane Frances hits!! I read in the paper that people are preparing for that one. So my thoughts are with you and your family! (even though I have no idea if it would be in your area or not)

Morning to the rest of the ladies!

I got up early this morning......I'm having a hard time sleeping with my back aching so much. Not sure if it's the mattress or the pillow.I"m sure it's the mattress. Keep saying we need a new one......who knows when that will be.

Got a visit from my grandpa last night. He stopped in on his way back home from the grocery store. Wanted to know if I wanted some tomatoes, & onions. I said sure do! He also told me to pick some Dahlia's. He's going to be going to Iowa in a couple weeks to visit family (he's originally from there) and he'll be gone for about a month. So we talked about how to get his bills paid......he didn't want to leave signed checks (don't blame him) so he's going to give me money and I can write out the check myself. Want to make sure we get it all figured out before he leaves. Then he tells me that this winter he'll make me my bookshelf. I told him that I was buying one and that I would still love to have one made....and he made me a promise! Sweet grandpa. Always so busy, and he'll squeeze time in for me.

I believe I need some coffee....I will check in later on.

RosieKate 09-02-2004 12:01 PM

Good Morning all...
I love the senior pictures - you both are so lovely. I couldn't find mine. I don't look that much different, really. I had a thing for blush back then, so my cheeks were pinkpinkpink, and my teeth were crooked (didn't get them straightened til I was in my twenties and had some health coverage) 'Course it seems like half the weight I have gained over the years has been in my FACE :( other than that, I don't look too different, lol. I
l'll keep looking for the photo. If you two are brave enough to post, I can be too. I only have one copy...so if I don't post, you all will know it was lost forever.

The shopping went okay. My shopping routine is to go to Costco and Winco once a month. I have a freezer and cook from scratch alot, so I stock up. I receive a weekly delivery of organic produce and we are still eating veggies from the garden. So our weekly shopping is very easy, just milk, eggs, and any produce that we didn't get from the Manic Organic. I'm all for simple. I plan meals anyway to help me stay OP, so this system works. My son was an absolute pill in Costco yesterday. He wanted me to buy him a Harry Potter CDROM. I said where's your money( in other words, NO) He then asked if we could walk by the CDROMS so he could see how much it cost so he would know and save his allowance. So we do, and he starts bugging me about buying it over and over. He kept saying, "Here's the deal..." and working the pester power to the nth degree. Get this, his best "deal" was that if I bought him the CDROM, he promised not to bug me about anything for the rest of the week! :dizzy: I said, " How about if you don't bug me for the rest of the week, I'll let you save your money for it" Wrong answer, haha. I can't decide which one of us needs school to start worse.....

Cristi- Occupational Safety and Hazard. I would think, especially on a construction site, that the employer has responsibilities for a safe workplace, even if the workers are volunteers. My impression is that everyone is supposed to be bonded and insured. Your son's situation raises a bunch of red flags with me....what if his injuries had been worse...this boss is saying he has no responsibility at all? that's bull. I feel for him, he's probably in a nasty catch-22 because he wants some experience. I hope this all works out ok for him.

Mindee - absolutely check out WIC. formula is too expensive. My DS stopped nursing at 10 mos and we did 2 mos of formula along with his soft foods, and it was still $80 a month. Yuck. WIC is the kind of thing I WANT my taxes to go to! As for working out at night, I think everyone is different. I read that it's bad if you have sleeping problems, like insomnia...but for others it's relaxing and helps them sleep better.

Marti and Shanna - hope you two can get together....

Hi to everyone else. My son is off to a VBS follow-up at church this morning, so we have to get ready. Then I stop by his school to drop off his supplies and epipen, meet the teacher and so forth. Other than that, a pretty laid back day...

Anyone going to chat tonight? I think I can tune in for a bit. DH and DS are going to a symphony concert at the waterfront tonight. It's the 1812 overture, complete with a real cannon and fireworks. It's their end of the summer ritual. Since it is past Leigh's bedtime, I'll stay home with her and hopefully get to chat with some of you...

Katy ( aka RosieKate)

Marti 09-02-2004 12:08 PM

Hi Katy--I forgot that this was Thursday and didn't think to go to chat. Thanks for reminding me! I should be able to check in. Your son sounds like my daughter with the "lets make a deal" offer. Only she's tells me "Just so you know, you haven't given me my allowance yet....so just deduct it from that" Kids.....they just want, want, want. And so do I!

Oh yea....I wanted to mention the 10 day challenge that I joined that is in the "Support" forum. It's like the 21 day challenge, but only 10 days. Much more doable. The woman who started the 21 day challenge started it.....anyway.....if you're interested I thought I would let you know.

now for that coffee :coffee:

FrouFrou 09-02-2004 12:22 PM

Just checking back before I log off.

RK~oh, I know what OSHA is, dealt with them when DH#1 was killed. What I meant was they weren't involved and the employer wouldn't dream of reporting it. But when we went to the emergency room they were told it happened on the job and the lady says all work accidents have to be reported to Workers Comp. Which is fine by me. I am not sure if this guy is bonded or not, just assuming he is considering he is working on peoples homes and thinking if it were me I wouldn't hire someone without being bonded and licensed. Yeah, it does raise a lot of red flags and I can't get DS to understand this. But believe me if something bad were to happen HE (the boss) would be held accountable, regardless of what he thinks. Yeah it is a catch 22 because DS has been looking for work for the longest time and no one will hire without experience so...I am still pushing him to keep looking elsewhere because he can't work at this place forever without any kind of benefits. Luckily he is still on our insurance.

Hiya Marti

Gotta go ladies, have a good one. I will try to make chat tonight, not sure what is going on.

jewels2 09-02-2004 12:44 PM

Hey Ladies

Well hope everyone is having a nice day!!!! The weather is so nice here and I have to leave my day job to go work at the hospital tonight!!!!YUCK!!!!!
Anyways, my day started off bad when I was late to work this morning, and I have just had a headache ever since....dont know what my problem is!!!!
Guess I have to make this post short, my lunch hour is almost up. I will try to check back in later on if I dont get home too late...maybe I'll see you guys in chat!!!

Have a great afternoon
Julie

Jane 09-02-2004 02:52 PM

Hiya ladies,

Angie, my little Cuban cigar smoker - (dont' ask where that came from... I truly don't know!!!) I'll be glad when you are safely back home and can tell us all about your adventures!

Shanna - I hope you have a great Labor Day, too! Wanna come to Indiana and grill out with us?

Cristi - The Manchuian Candidate is a remake, and although I never saw the first one, Neal did, and said the story line is really, really good. We may go see the new one. And yes, Denzel makes any movie better, imho! About the boss, I think you are right. He would be responsible whether he knows it or not!

Marti - I do not like Core. I'm too much of a point-counter and like things the way they were, and am not fond of eating from a list. But I had to try it just to see what all the shoutin' was about, lol, and I'm glad I did. It's nice of you to help your grandpa. He sounds like such a sweetie!

Katy - your picture wouldn't have to be a Senior one... it could be any high school photo... I may even change the name of the thread... we'd love to see any photo from then. Not sure if I'll make chat or not. I'd rather go with your DS and DH to the 1812 overture concert!

Julie - enjoy the good weather and try to not work so hard.

Well, I bought "The Passion of the Christ" DVD today and I suppose we will watch it over the weekend sometime.

I also bought a premiere issue of a new magazine called All You.... just what I needed... a magazine that's me me me me me me, lol. For $1.47 I figured I couldn't go wrong.

BBL,

Marti 09-02-2004 04:12 PM

Real quick because I'm out the door.....

I got the job!! :cheer:

They just called me and asked if I still wanted it.

It's for the 2nd. night shift, 6-2:30 M-F (I can handle that) with rotating weekends. Not sure how that works, but I can handle what ever they give me. I mean, if James has a crazy schedule, then why not me! :D

Orientation starts next Friday....and I'm not sure where it goes from there. The pay is ok...starts off at 10.15 and goes up after 6mos. as long as they like me of coarse.

Anyway...I'm off to the Social Security Office to change my name on that...(SUCH a procrastinator!)

BBL

tommysgirl18 09-02-2004 04:38 PM

Hello ladies…..how are you all doing?

Nothing new here, same stuff different day.

Angie~ Thanks for that little tidbits of info. I will keep that all in mind. I found the same thing, that if I work out before bed, since that is the only time that I have to myself, then it worked out best for me. I too don’t recall the reasoning why you shouldn’t work out before bed. I think I will switch back to it, but just doing it sooner so that I can go to bed earlier! I had TOM last week, and I weighed in sometime earlier this week, so I will chalk it up to that….unless it is the same at the next weigh in. I had Thursdays all mapped out for WI, so I think for my sanity I will stick with those days and not be tempted to do it before then.

Shanna~ Have fun!! Don’t do anything I would do….which at this point could be a lot! LOL

Jana~ We were given the packet for WIC when Brandon was in the hospital in early June. We are going to look into more in the coming days. My hubby’s oldest brother and his family are on WIC, I think, and my hubby’s brother works at the same place my hubby does. So we will definitely look into it. The only thing, Brandon has to be on a soy formula, do they cover those as well?

Cristi~ I want to see that movie!! I love those law flicks. I think we might have to rent it when it comes to the local video store…whenever that might be! Brandon’s Rite Aid brand of soy formula is $9.99. The “real” brand is about $12.99 or so. A friend of ours pays $25.99 for a small can of Nutrimagen (sp?) for one of her twins. It is highway robbery!

Katy~ Thankfully the little jars of food, are $0.59 so that is less then we were anticipating. But the formula is the kicker.

ok...you guys reminded me....I am going to go look for one of my senior pictures. I don't remember where they went since we moved.

tommysgirl18 09-02-2004 04:40 PM

And you will all be proud of me.....things are kind of rocky with me and DH right now. (I won't go into the whole story) and my usual reaction would be to go get something to eat but I am proud to say that I didn't do that!

Jane 09-02-2004 07:20 PM

YAY MARTI!!!!! :cp: And the pay is good, too! I'm proud of you, girl!!

Mindee - uh.... unless you're responding to an old post, Angie's been in Cuba since Saturday morning. Yes, WIC does cover the soy formula. Makenzie was on the NutraWhatever you said, and Mary had vouchers for it. Dig out that Senior pic, and let us take a peek. Sorry you and DH are having a rocky time, but I'm very glad you aren't using food as the solution!! :bravo:

We're about to get a big storm, so I won't be on here too long...

tommysgirl18 09-02-2004 08:12 PM

Jana~ I meant to say Marti! I realized that later on when I was skimming through here.
