21 day challenge #5

This challenge is working for some of us and I want to keep it going!! It started in the Support thread, and I noticed that there were fewer and fewer postings! But, since I've brought it over here, we've been having success and I want to keep it going.

Here is how it works. You choose something that you would like to work on and do it for 21 days. (to make it a habit) Such as drink 80oz. of water, walk a mile, or what ever else may come to mind. You do a count down. But if you miss a day...you start over to day one. And you can start over many times, but if you're constantly starting over.....well then....I would say maybe you should find something else to work on for 21 days.

Also, during the days you're sick and your body just doesn't feel good, we have what we call a "pause". You pause your efforts until you're feeling better and just continue from what day you stopped.

Simple you say.....believe me,,,,it's not as simple as it sounds...there have been times that I just had to start over.

Anyone want to join me??

Scuzin 06-15-2004 02:10 PM

hey hey,
Day 1 done here on my NEW water challenge.
Spring term is finally done! I'm currently living in my parent's house till my new apartment opens up on the 30th....can't wait! Though its amazing how much easier it is to get all my water in while I'm living here.

Marti 06-16-2004 01:24 AM

Hello!!

Well I worked some more in my yard. Squatted while I pulled leaves. I'm going to hate walking tomorrow!! Squats always gets to me!

So day 9 completed!!!

Glad to have you back Scuzin!! Even when you get your own place you'll do fine with water. Just think of all the good it's doing for your body!!

Where is everyone else? RosieKate, I know you're at the beach...Deb? Jennie? Anybody? Come back!

Scuzin 06-16-2004 02:23 AM

Hey Hey
Finishing up day 2 as I type. I've been getting some exercise in with some major cleaning and rearranging. I'll report if I have any losses this friday...can't wait...

Know all too well what you mean with the squats, marti, I could harldy walk the day after I last did them! I hardly felt it at all while I did them, but come the next morning...OW!!!!!

PUERTO RICAN GODDESS 06-16-2004 01:54 PM

hi ladies:wave:
my 21 challenge was to walk 2-3 miles a day. I haven't been here bc i feel so stupid at the fact that i just couldn't get started. see i like working out with people and if i have to it by myself i just say no and i will do it the next day but the next day comes and i am still sitting around bc i am alone. but i got off my rear yesterday and walked 3 mile:clapping:

the hardest part is over and that is beginning. I guess that will be my day one:D lets see how far i can go today:)

Marti 06-17-2004 01:39 AM

Hello gals---

I walked around two malls today in search of birthday gifts for my daughter! Nothing like going in circles!! But it was a good workout and I got our early today, so there were still some walkers hanging around!! (need to stay out of there way!! Some can be pretty pushy if you're not walking fast enough)

So that's my exercise today.

Jennie--Don't ever feel stupid that you didn't get started. I've had to restart many times!! Things happen. But if you feel that you can't get in exercise in everyday....why not try something different for your first challenge? Such as water. How is your water intake? Or maybe you're counting calories...or you need to eat breakfast every morning....something that you know you need to do and make it a habit.......

Scuzin--I'll keep my fingers crossed for you for that loss this weekend!! I think I've asked before...I noticed your from Oregon.....anywhere close to Eugene? I'm south of Eugene....Cottage Grove.....

Deb--Hope everythings ok!

RosieKate--How's the beach??

Day 10 completed!!

Scuzin 06-17-2004 02:13 AM

Day 3 almost done...the last glass of water is right next to me

Jennie - like Marti said, no worries about not gettting a good start...its has taken me a while to get on a roll with my plans

Marti - Yes I noticed you are in Oregon too! I go to school in Corvallis and will be living there after the end of the month in my very 1st appartment :). Right now I'm staying in my parent's house just south of Portland.

PUERTO RICAN GODDESS 06-17-2004 01:02 PM

Hiiii:wave:

I Am So Very Happy Today. First Off Want To Say Thank You To Marti And Susan. I Started My Challenge On Tuesday And Today Will Be Day 3:clapping:
I Am Also Very Happy Bc I Have Finally Noticed The Weight Loss I Have Had. I Have A Pair Of Pants That I Had To Put Away Over The Wimter Bc They Were Just Too Tight And Didn't Fit Anymore. Well Today I Took Them Out To Try On And Guess What....i Am Wearing Them Right Now:clapping:

Day 3 Here I Come To Walk Another 3 Miles.
Wishing Everyone Luck On Their Challenges. Hope You Beautiful Ladies Are All Doing Great.

Marti 06-17-2004 01:39 PM

Hurray to Jennie for the NSV!!!! (non scale victory!) :cp: :cb:

Nothing like trying on some "tight" jeans and they are no longer tight!! I'm so happy for you! You're doing all the right things!!

Scuzin--How exciting to have your first apartment!! My husband and I just moved to a very cute house last summer. My first real house. How old are you if you don't mind me asking. I think getting your own place for the first time is so fun!! My daughter will be set between her dad and I. She's the only child and it shows. Although we don't over do it...want her to appreciate what she has.

I haven't done anything yet as far as exercise.....but I will post later when I do!

RosieKate 06-17-2004 01:55 PM

Hey - I'm back. I posted over in chit chat about my trip - twas awesome!
Day 15 - walked 45 minutes around my neighborhood before we left. Good thing, because the beach was way too windy.
Day 16 - walked about 7 miles on the beach. Gorgeous weather.
Day 17 (today) - walked 45 minutes this morning

Wahoo!
Scuzin - whereabouts South of Portland are you? I live in Multnomah Village
Marti - with our hot weather, walking a nice air-conditined mall sounds pretty good. I used to mall walk with some friends during the inter months, but it got kind of monotonous after awhile.
Hooray to everyone else and the great success! Catch y'all later
RK

Scuzin 06-18-2004 12:31 AM

Day four done!

RK - Welcome back! Glad you had a good time. My parent's live in the Oregon City/Gladstone area which is where I'm staying now and where I went to high school.

To answer your question marti, I'm 20. Did you have a guess? :P Your daughter must be very lucky to have you as a parent to spoil her ;). I'm the youngest of 5 over here! Though I've lived like an only child for most of it...the closest sibling to me is 8 1/2 years older.

PUERTO RICAN GODDESS 06-18-2004 12:09 PM

good morning ladies

Yesterday was day3 for me and i did ok. it rained here( i am from Long Island New York) so i worked out at home. did some crunches and some leg exercise that I have no idea what they are called. I lie on my back and act as if I am riding a bike. Well since i couldn't go out and walk what i did was i jogged in place for 15 min. I am a person who does not sweat much so what i do is i put vicks vaporub all over my stomach then wrap a plastic bag around me then put on a girddle or something tight then a sweater. Its alot to do but really helps me. It has helped me so much that as you all know i have an addiction to the scale..well last night after my workout at home i went to my friends house and got on the scale. I am so happy to say the scale is down to 183!!!! Also with the clothes I have on today one of the agents in the office i work at(i am an administrative assistant in a real estate by the name of Coldwell Banker) said that it is starting to show all the weight i have lost so far:D i am so happy.

Marti 06-18-2004 10:50 PM

Holy smokes...is this a day 12 for me or what!? I helped my grandpa haul wood from the two trees they cut down in my back yard today....my shoulders are sore!! But I have wood for the winter!! :D And a good workout for the upper body!!

Scuzin--I was thinking that you were in your early 20's or late teens. Only because you talked about going to college. And then you mentioned your first apartment so I figured you had to be just a young thing! :) I'm the oldest of 5......and today with the way my body aches...I feel extremely old!!

Jennie-- :cp: :cp: Hurray on the weight loss!! And I'm sure the compliments from co-workers really helped boost your self confidence didn't it? I'm so happy for you. My scale isn't moving very much....Saturdays are my weigh ins....so I'm hoping to see at least ONE little pound. Because every week, one + one+ one.....eventually adds up!

RosieKate--This weather surprised me. Almost too hot.....wait did I say almost? It WAS too hot!! I prefer weather to be 80....nothing over 85!! And today was a doozy!

Keep up the good work ladies.....

I will check in again tomorrow.

Marti

RosieKate 06-19-2004 10:34 AM

Day 18 -done! I worked in the yard for 1.5 hours or so. I thought I'd walk or do something else, but it was hot, then my body started feeling stiff and sore, so I decided I'd done enough for one day.
Marti - saw the pix pf the tree - that looked dangerous. When we;ve had trees removed they start dutting from the top and work their way down. But then again we live in the city and there's just no yelling "timber" over here. I'm feeling pretty old myself - speaking of aches and pains. I didn't think I'd done all that much in the yard yesterday, but I lost track of time. Then around dinner time - OUCH.
Scuzin - I graduated West Linn High...oh.. about the year you were born :) Seriously. Class of '83. I've also lived in Oak Grove, so I now the area. My all-time favorite thrift store Red, White and Blue is in your neck of the woods. Ever been there?
Jennie - WTG on the weight loss! Always a good thing when people start noticing....

Have a great weekend everyone, I'm hoping to walk before it gets too hot here...
RK

Scuzin 06-19-2004 12:06 PM

Day 5 done! I also got in some exercise yesterday swimming and I am down 1 pound since monday...so that makes it 4 pounds in the last 2 weeks which I am very happy about.
RK - Ah ha! A Lion are you? All 4 of my siblings went to West Linn too! Which made it very interesting when we moved and I ended up going to OC. I have DEFINATELY been to the Red White and Blue! My sister used to love that store and she's the type of person that can find a bargan anywhere, so she would come out with almost brand new clothes for practicaly nothing.
Great Job Marti, you're over 1/2 way there!

Marti 06-19-2004 07:13 PM

Lucky 13 over with.....

I hauled more wood into piles....I don't think I want to use my arms anymore!! :D

Day 13 completed!!

RosieKate 06-19-2004 07:29 PM

Day 19 -done! Got my walk in before DH had to start hauling off yard debris to McFarlane's

Hey - I'm almost done with my challenge - wahoo

I'm going to take a break after this one until after the fourth, then I'm really going to get down to business. I'm contemplating trying to stick to a recommended calorie range for me. I did one of these online assessments that said I should be eating between 1350 and 1550 cals/day to lose 1-2 lbs a week. I've done it a few days on, a few days off, and, naturally, have been losing more slowly. So, I may do this as a challenge to jumpstart my summer. We'll have the celebrations out of the way for awhile, and we won't be going out of town 'til August... so we'll see.

Marti - Take it easy on the wood pile, girl. Remember, you have more trees coming down, so pace yourself. I can relate to this, though. I got so caught up in spreading mulch last year, my back just totally blew on me. I ended up in urgent care begging for hillbilly heroin, which they wouldn't give me because I was nursing. Made no sense since the first time I was prescribed Oxycontin was in the hospital after a c-section. Life's little mysteries.... I bet your family is having fun celebrating Jhanai's birthday!

Scuzin - yes, a Lion I was. The place has sure changed alot since I was there. What we used to call the "old school" is now condemned, but no one's done anything with it, so it's just locked up. The big remodel happened after I graduated to the place just looks totally different. I read an article some where about RW&B ( Trib, maybe?) and it brought back a wave of memories - think I'll be making a trip out there soon to get reacquainted with the place. Glad that cra**py Value Village hasn't put it out of business. I got a chuckle out of the article, it said the owners had to get rid of the dressing room because of peeping toms! :o So now customers (men, too) go in there now wearing skirts so they can try on pants discreetly. Hee Hee - I'll do a skirt count when I go....

RK

RosieKate 06-20-2004 04:46 PM

Day 20 - done!
Moved a whole scoop of compost mulch. Took me almost two hours to move and spread - whew!

One more day!
Katy

Scuzin 06-21-2004 11:20 AM

Marti 06-22-2004 12:45 AM

Oh wow...it's going to be me alone??

Jennie? Deb? Are you two still coming around?

Well I've been walking around like crazy. Too hot to be doing it but gotta do it. I walk the mornings. Tomorrow will be yard work! Lots to do.

RosieKate--I think I'm going to wait until after the 4th also to start the next challenge. Need to figure out what I need to do. I'm thinking it's going to have to be water since I've been drinking too much of the bad stuff lately instead!!

Scuzin--Have fun camping! Try to keep cool and go swimming!!

Day 15 completed!!

Marti 06-23-2004 12:10 PM

I'm all alone here aren't I??? Well I did some squats yesterday and today I've already ran around the yard and the house trying to clean up!! I worked up a sweat!!! Am I that out of shape?!! I think so!!

But I'm counting it! Later on today when the weather clears up I will be working out on the patio some more!!

Days 16 & 17 completed!!
