Sarah~it sounds like you are doing great! Keep up with the hard work!! Where do you find all those whole grain breads??? I wish I could find more without having to go to one of those speciallty stores. (family of 5 needs to meet their budget)

Welcome Kenyetta!!! These ladies are very supportive!!!

Holly~your weekend sounded very relaxing! Good for you taking some time to gather your thoughts. We all need a break every once in a while.

Girlie~Those are some great tips!! I will try them out, if only to cut down prep time for dinner. Trying to fit dinner making in after the gym has been difficult, esp since Dh needs to be in bed by 5:30-6pm. Great job!!!

Debbie~I can't wait to clean out my closet, I even have a box of clothes that don't fit up in the attic that I would love to get rid of.. Excellent!:carrot:

Susie~I hate when that happens!!!! great job with the exercise!!!

I had a good weekend, with few missteps with the food, but it all worked out. No gym for me thiss weekend, had to be at work early on Sat, adn Sunday's are just impossible (got up at 4:30am as it was) But wwent to the park with the kiddies while Dh had Baseball practice. and got a little walk in with the little girls. About a mile to a mile and a half, not very fast, but the littles ones kept up very well. Have to get my house work started for the day. Will check in later.

((hugs)) to anyone I may have missed!

HippyHippo 03-13-2006 12:05 PM

Ellen, All of the wholegrain stuff I found in ShopRite, don't know if you have them near you, they are sometimes called Starns. The garlic bread is Pepperidge Farm and it's frozen, very yummy too but you need to crisp it a bit under the broiler when it comes out of the oven as it was a bit soft the first time we tried it.

I actually worked up a sweat yesterday! I decided that my winterised living room needed a good ole clean and being made spring like! I put on the greatest party in the world cd and I didn't stop for about an hour or more! One of our drivers walked in (we have a cab company) and just stood there staring at me as I was waving my arms and gyrating my hips....lol, I don't think he'd ever seen the boss move so much! I moved furniture, I vacuumed and dusted and polished, I even cleaned out the fireplace! But boy did I feel good to have sweat on me and muscles starting to ache!

I tried a few carb lite jelly beans and they were really yummy...or so I thought...

DH and I decided we would treat ourselves last night to some chinese, we had both got up late and only eaten cereal and fruit around lunchtime and had been mega good all week. Just before it arrived I started to get weird stomach pains, I just thought I was hungry. We were really good and had only ordered meat and vegetable dishes, I don't like the steamed white rice they send with it anyway, I only had a couple of tablespoons of food...then I felt like I had really bad gas (scuse the TMI), so being the unladylike person that I am, I let rip! I let rip again and OMG, I felt wetness! I went running to the bathroom and OMG again, I was s****ing thru the eye of a needle! and the pains in my stomach were excrutiating. I finally emerged and dh was like I'm sorry I talked you into chinese I know you have a sensitive stomach (chinese food with msg makes me puke normally but we use a place that says it doesn't use it). I told him I had had the pains before we ate so he looked at the jelly beans...may cause a laxative effect!!!!!!! I only ate about 8-10 of them!!!! Thank goodness I didn't eat the whole bag cos of the low carb content! I was in and out of the bathroom until 1am (and I squitted in my pants a second time at one point!!!) I've never heard such weird noises coming from me! talk about gurgles and grunts! Won't be eating carb lite sweeties again!

The trots have stopped this morning but ouchies...last night was supposed to be my treat night, I didn't get to have my 3 Quality Street chocs...I was scared to eat chocolate during all that palaver! Of course I couldn't resist the scale this morning, after all I had flushed most of my insides away! lol and I had lost 1/2 a pound! lmao!

Now I've completely grossed you all out and put you off your lunches...

Thanks for the comments on the food intake, I've been reading other people's food diaries online and I am pretty close in amount to them so I guess I am eating enough, I have been worried about ketosis (even tho I eat good carbs and not all protein) or putting my ole bod into starvation mode...

I'm feeling so motivated, so energetic, I really enjoyed my dance houseworkout yesterday! The other good thing about eating all these greens and healthy stuff is that I am a ton of zits! The cleansing process has begun! I wouldn't normally be too thrilled with zits as I only get the odd one around TOM but this is proof I am shoving the crap out of me!

Here's to a healthy, happy week for all of us. Keep up the great work girls and thank you for all your support!

Sarah

Hollyhock 03-13-2006 02:20 PM

I had an EVENTFUL night. DD came in and puked all over me and my bed at 11pm and down the hall and up the bathroom walls. Poor kid. She was sick until 2 am every few minutes.
Needless to say the bed has been stripped ,carpet and floors scrubbed etc. All in the middle of the night. Then our sump pump alarm went off at 6 am. The power was out so hubby ran out the door in his undies and my parka (giggle) to turn on the generator. I slept in fits and starts.

Lot of of lightening and thunder.

It is March break!!!!!!!!!!

Hubby is home because of the rain and DD slept late and DS is quite happy.
The house is very messy from all the in and out with the hockey tourny yesterday.

Been to the egg lady, post office, did some Avon stuff, and hardware store.
Does anyone else get totally excited by the hardware store and their flyers????? It is my fav store.

DS has been scraping my steamer trunk. It is in pretty bad shape. 105 years old and sat in a basement for the last 40-50. I will restore it as best as possible. It was my Great Grandmothers.

Ds off to his friends for supper. DD colouring. Hubby being “lazy”. Temps are supposed to drop to freezing tonight and a snow storm tomorrow. It is currently 14C/58F.

Closet cleaned out.Soap watched.
Time to have a tea and clean the stinkin kitchen.

HUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LChin1978 03-13-2006 02:30 PM

[D: Salad with No carb dressing. Small slice of wholewheat garlic bread. 1/4lb of wholewheat pasta made into carbonara (made with carb options alfredo sauce, turkey bacon, chopped onions and thin sliced deli ham). Activia yoghurt. Pear. Water. Cup of tea.

Watch that yogurt, I looked at it and I think it has like 34g of sugar per cup? My diet plan says have a cup of whole fat plain yogurt with some fruit in it. Not bad and the baby likes it too ;)

Girlie 03-13-2006 02:33 PM

Hi there Sarah,
I estimated some points for you based on Weight Watchers. Of course, this isn't definite - I am just assuming that you are having regular portions of everything, and I also estimated a little high for some things - like counted the milk in your tea as 1 full point even though it's probably only a few tablespoons as I put in my tea. And I prob underestimated the carbonara...but anyway, just and idea. You are probably doing pretty well. I think your pts would be 28 per day, and there is a 35 pt bank that you get to use all week, so based on that, you are doing okay. I hope this is helpful for you.
-------

Water, cup of tea made with 1% milk & sweet & low - 1/1
B: Small bowl of whole grain cheerios with 1% milk - 4/5
S: Cup of tea (as above) - 1/6
L: 1 small pitta bread filled with grated cheese and chopped onion. No sugar added kozyshack individual rice pudding. Grapes. Water. 8/14
S: Banana - 1/15
D: Salad with No carb dressing - 5/20
Small slice of wholewheat garlic bread. 3/23
1/4lb of wholewheat pasta made into carbonara 6/29
Activia yoghurt. 2/31
Pear. 1/32
Water. Cup of tea. 1/33

----
Here's an example of what I've eaten today and plan to have for dinner:

I need to use 28 pts

1/2 container of egg beaters 1/1
with mushrooms, spinach and ham 1/2
Whole wheat bun 2/4

granola bar 3/7

Bowl of veggies w/lowfat cheese sauce - 3/10
Kashi TLC Crackers - 2/12
Single serve bag 98% FF popcorn - 3/15
applesauce 1/16

steamed spinach - 0/16
shrimp sauteed with cooking spray - 2/18
1 cup of brown rice - 4/22
strawberries and pineapple with FF whipped cream - 2/24
Healthy choice Ice cream bar OR a chocolate raspberry cookie- 3/27

It's not very balanced, but it seems to be working for me. I ALWAYS have dessert! I'm one point off today, but I usually go to 30 or 31 - we have a 35pt "bank" as a part of the WW plan.

HippyHippo 03-13-2006 04:16 PM

Girlie, thank you so much for that! It gives me a good idea that I am on the right track!

I'm not a great dessert eater, even if we eat out I rarely eat dessert. I bought the sugar free puddings and ice cream to make myself eat them! lol I thought they would make my meals more interesting!

LChin - thank you for that also - the only reason I am eating those yoghurts is DH wants to try the 14 day thing with the bacteria so I said I would eat them too! Not that I have eaten one every day so I'm kinda not sure if I will feel any benefit! I really am the queen of puke cos of my ulcer and delicate stomach. I normally eat sugar free yoghurts.

I am eating very light today after last nights 'episode' just cereal and a banana for breakfast and 2 medium soft boiled eggs and wheat toast for lunch. So far so good with the tummy today thank goodness!

Thank you for all your input, it's hard when you're not actually counting anything but changing the content cos it makes you feel so much better. I have the WW points book here that I borrowed from a friend (it was her who inspired me to get back on the complex carbs after we spent 5 days visiting them and all the food she cooked was so tasty and dh had done WW before).

Having our own business sometimes makes it hard to get a routine with eating and you grab things to keep you going or eat really late etc, so wanting to eat properly actually got me to look at my routine and say 'bugger the job it doesn't need me 24/7' That in itself has made me less stressed, eat right at the right time of day and no puking from ulcer being aggravated by stress! I'm a winner in all corners really! Sleeping better, eating better and better support by having all you lovely ladies to spur me on!

THANK YOU ALL!

Sarah

Debbie 03-13-2006 09:01 PM

WAY TO GO DEBBIE!!! wooooooohoooooooo!

MyChoice2bfit 03-14-2006 08:48 AM

Ok, I'm having trouble this morning. I really want to go and get something to eat out of the vending machine. I'm tired (I know I want to eat when I'm tired), and I think I'm feeling pressure from thinking about the Marketing Assistant's position. I have an interview for it on Friday and I'm not sure that I want it. I'm sort of enjoying my job right now. But yet, I don't want an opportunity to pass me by. Why can't I just be content like normal people?

I did tell Recbecca (who works with me and is a fellow TOPS member) that I was wanting to eat something. I thought if I said it out loud that I would at least not be able to hide it--I'm a secret eater.

I've been having great workouts and I really want to show a loss this week, so I'm not going to give in to the temptation of the vending machine, but I can tell you that I feel like I'm taking it minute by minute right now.

I better get busy and get to work. I am hanging on for lunch!

Debbie: I'm so proud and happy for you!:D

HippyHippo 03-14-2006 03:00 PM

Susie, minute by minute is better than giving in to temptation babe! Well done for saying it out loud! Did you eat enough breakfast this morning?

You are right about not letting an opportunity pass you by - even if you love your current job and you happen to get the Marketing Assistant's position - you don't have to take it! Would it be a promotion or pay raise? Would it mean longer hours or different hours that won't fit in with your current schedule? Weigh all the options!

Hope your lunch made your temptations pass love!

Sarah

DewCan 03-14-2006 04:41 PM

Debbie 03-14-2006 09:56 PM

Hey guys
I had a crazy day at work. I have walked my rear off...Literaly I hope. I had to work til 7 this evening.
I got up at 5 and cooked stuffed green peppers. while they were in the oven I did my watp for 1 mile.

Susie: I also am a closet eater. I have to be very careful. I like to think I have it under control.

I'm going to the shower. Good night friends.. :grouphug:

:dust:

JigglyBits 03-15-2006 04:29 AM

I feel sick, I'm really sick of those know-it-alls. At work during lunch break, they sit around scarfing down their fried chicken, pizzas and 12-inch subway sandwitches oozing of mayo and cheese sauces. They snack all day on cookies, pastries, chips and chocolates. And then they come tell ME how I should be eating...GRRR!!!
Thing is most of them are overweight, I'm not the only one!
I stick to my diet, my lunches are usually salads, a cup of soup or a lean turkey bacon on mixed grain bread without mayo. I usually snack on fruits and veggies, or low fat cereal bars and cookies. I drink my water and refuse to have any of the stuff they're having!!

phew.. I just had to let that out. :)
I'm doing okay, I'm almost there with my exercise goal, 106 mins left :D. I'm staying OP and trying to get to my mini goal for this month. Hopefully I'll get there by end of march!. i'm not expecting much this week because its almost my TOM. I'm trying to avoid all the binge eating that comes with it by staying busy with my job, and workouts at home. I've ordered several new videos and I'm trying them out so thats keeping me busy and interested.
Good luck Ladies!

Debbie: congrats on the 10%, you're my inspiration

charliekay 03-15-2006 10:16 AM

well ya'll i have been off the wagon almost all of this month, and i have to talked to people about my goals and food issues,so now as soon as i get my supplies i am starting the weight watchers,so any help and advice i would really really appreciate it.thanks.

upswife 03-15-2006 10:25 AM

All of you ladies are doing great!!!

Charlie~I don't do WW but It os a really good program Good luck!!

I have been doing ok, joining hte gym ahs really made a difference. I feel better about myself everyday!! I have to get moving this morning. Hope to check back in this afternoon.

Girlie 03-15-2006 11:01 AM

Good Morning, Ladies...

Debbie -
that's WONDERFUL! How great of you! I have a long way to go, but I do my cardio every morning, imagining what it will be like when I tell my WW group that I hit my 10% and they clap for me. I might even cry! That is what keeps me going!

Emma & Diana:
Both of you are so close to ONEderland!

Susie:
Ah, those vending machine temptations. We don't have one here at this job, which is a blessing and a curse LOL. I always have snacks with me - healthy snacks, like granola bars and I always have fruit cups in the fridge.

Charliekay:
You can certainly get back on the bandwagon. Don't stop posting/reading here. I really like Weight Watchers. It's a very sensible plan. It shows you that you truly can eat anything you want. Nothing is out of bounds - but it shows you that you just have to limit, and encourages you to get your fruits, veggies and milks in as well - a balanced diet. I feel very in control of my eating.

PS - Sarah:
What is spotted dick? DH and I brought a can back when we went to Westminster and we haven't had the courage to touch it! I need to see how many pts it is too. We took this picture of it at the store, it was right next to Weight Watchers pudding! I noticed a lot of WW products at Tesco and such! And have you been able to find Digestive biscuits in the States?! Hee hee we love English foods.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13...oonPics028.jpg

charliekay 03-15-2006 11:43 AM

wow,i am sorry don't mean to make this sound bad,but i honestly do not think i could eat something in a can called "spotted dick"
just couldn't :)

DewCan 03-15-2006 12:17 PM

I say wow too, Spotted Dick, I thought maybe it was a typo until I saw the picture of the can. What's in it, it has to say in the ingredients? I thought some of my german food had bad sounding names, but this beats all.

Charlie, what hatched? I see your little picture and am wondering. I've been on WW before, I liked it. Then I moved and never got in the groove again, and felt sorry for myself that I had to live here and tried to drown that with food, which sucks as now I'm tdrying ot deal with it. I should try it again, it really made me aware of what I was eating, and what I wasn't, like not very much fibre.

Keep at it with the gym Ellen. It's amazing how good exercsie makes your body feel (even sore feels good then) and it makes you motivated and happier, at least for me it does.

charliekay 03-15-2006 12:45 PM

hey just click on the little dinosaur (or whatever he is) and it explains about it,its an egg you get and they hatch on a certain date, just something for fun.
thanks for the help,i ordered the home kit but do you think going to the meeting will help me better then doing it alone?
i am just not shure i want to shell out 30 bucks for the meeting.

HippyHippo 03-15-2006 03:49 PM

OMG Girlie send me that can of spotted dick! yuuuuuuuuuuuuum very very fattening tho I would think!

It's basically a suet pudding that you steam and it has dried fruit in it. I can get them at my local (40 miles away) Brit store where I also can get digestive biscuits. There are plenty of on line British stores where you could get them.

Not posting much today, my stomach is really icky from the other day's 'episode', so please excuse my shortness! Been in and out of bed all day cos I feel so yuuuuuuuuuuucky.

Sarah

DewCan 03-15-2006 06:29 PM

Get better Sarah girl!!

Charlie, interesting egg. I think you could do the points on your own. Is that the system your'e using? I know lots of people who have done it that way and have been successful. You just need support and you can get this on the 3FC site.

Debbie 03-15-2006 08:34 PM

Hey everyone,
I've been op again today. I did my watp this am but didn't make it to curves.
I have used 23 of my 26 pts.
I asked ds if he wanted spotted dick. After he picked his jaw off the floor he tured bright red and said "no thanks"....

Diane: I do the ww-on line it helps me stay accountable but you can do it on your own. I really like WW.

Sarah: :balloons: FEEL BETTER SOON. Stay away from the spotted dick.

Jiggly: You are doing great. As you loose those girls will be wanting to know how you did it...Just give them a big :p That will feel so good.

Girlie: That's what I would love about attending the meetings. Maybe later.

Later :grouphug:

charliekay 03-15-2006 08:43 PM

this is a first i have ever heard of spotted dick :)
yes i am doing the home kit of points,i sent off for a kit that has the books and calculator and stuff to do the points.

Spotted Dick!

With all these varied usages, you got a problem with "dick" being also derived from "pudding"? My sources all pretty much agree with the derivation, without being specific how. However, I can see "pudding" become "puddink" becoming "puddick" and then just "dick."

The word "dick" has appeared in any number of strange places. Around the 1840s, "dick" was used to mean a type of hard cheese; when treacle sauce was added, it became "treacle dick", and finally when currants or raisins were added (looking like little spots), the "spotted dick" was born.

The earliest recipes for spotted dick are from 1847. For non-British readers, "spotted dick" is a boiled suet pudding, with bits of dried fruit (usually raisins or currants) that (as already noted) look like little spots.

The Oxford Companion to Food comments that, strictly speaking, "spotted dick" is made by taking a flat sheet, spreading sugar and raisins on it, then rolling it up. A similar dessert is "spotted dog," a plain cylinder of suet paste with the raisins and currants and sugar stuck into it, so that the spots are visible on the outside. Both spotted dick and spotted dog were traditionally boiled (or even steamed) in a cloth, but nowadays they are usually baked.

The dessert is slightly different in Ireland. In Ireland in the late 1800s, the tradition of yeast-bread manufacture was not strong, so most breads were raised with bicarbonate of soda and an acid, rather than with yeast, and thus called soda breads. Thus, the spotted dick in Ireland is sweet soda bread, with sugar, currants, and raisins, and it's also called the spotted dog or railway cake.

Best eaten with BRITISH custard, called Birds Dessert Sauce Pudding in the USA or something like that, comes in little packets to mix up with the milk and sugar. It truly is a comfort food, suet puddings always are!

Sarah

charliekay 03-15-2006 10:43 PM

that is very interesting,a great learning moment :) i stil have never heard of it or the desseert sauce pudding mix either, guess you can tell i never bake :)it looks good in that pic.i would try it,sounds kinda like flan(spelling) don't know, maybe not.

annie175 03-16-2006 08:42 AM

Happy Thursday all........

OMG Sarah, your story about being sick was hilarious. I certainly can relate. Since I had my gallbladder removed, certain foods (lettuce, nuts) make like that nearly every day, and I too, have had the "Sharts" (Sh*ts and Farts) many times. LMAO

Debbie - Great job on the loss. YOU ROCK!! Send your motivation my way.

Susie - Just keep saying to yourself...I want thin more than I want the vending machine. Good time for self talks.

Holly - Yes I LOVE the hardware store, and also love going to the junkyard looking for parts. My daughter works at Menards (hardware/lumber) store. I go visit her there often. :^)

I must say, I am not doing well with food. I lost 10.6 the frist week of WW and have not even tried to stick with it since. WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH ME??? Why can't I focus? HELP!

The WW at work has not started yet, as they cannot find a leader open to do it yet. It may be another month. I am sure that will help me. I didn't even go to my meeting this past Monday night.

Everything else is basically under control now, in my life. I am happy. Why can't I grasp this?

Enough whining. Have a marvelous day everyone.

(((HUGS)))

Annie

charliekay 03-16-2006 10:38 AM

annie-i am the same way,i can't stay motivated at all,i lost 40 pounds in two months and just quit, and gained it all back :(

DewCan 03-16-2006 10:59 AM

Sometimes the psychological part of losing weight is hard to deal with. Annie, do you have mini goals? Maybe put a reward at the end of it, pedicure or small trip away, going to a movie you've been wanting to see, soemthing you'd look forward to. How about putting up a picture of what you look like, that's what I should do, pictures always shock me!!

Charlie, how hard that must have been torealize you had gained it all back. :( What did you do to lose it the first time?

Well, I've got a lot on my list for today, better go.

charliekay 03-16-2006 11:35 AM

diana- i was on low carb high protein plan since the first of janurary,i lost like 40 pounds all together but then month i went crazy and ate like a man woman, and gained it back :( at least alot of it,maybe not all of it but i really really gained back,i know that.

Girlie 03-16-2006 12:09 PM

Very active here today, everyone, and it's GREAT to see!

Sarah, I'll look at the nutrition facts on the spotted dick. It IS a funny name...That's why we took a picture of it!

Oh, I did something last night - I chopped my hair off! I probably cut ten inches off. It doesn't even touch my neck now, and I love it!!! I just feel really good...except my neck is cold! I'll have to post a picture. So, you don't eat the spotted dick by itself?

I'm feeling good. I am not getting hungry at night - I had to make myself eat dinner. I'm just not very hungry sometimes at night, but according to WW, I HAVE to eat at least the minimum points.

Gotta run. I'm having Jimmy John's for lunch. The sandwich I get is 18 points...take off the mayo and it's 9 pts! Amazing what a tablespoon of mayo would do - keep it in mind!

Girlie

ApplBride 03-16-2006 12:24 PM

Hope its not too late in the game to join this group.
I started fresh March 1st...in hopes of getting to goal weight of 170.
I am 28 and I am getting married this coming August and my wedding dress isn't too forgiving, ha.

Starting Weight: 218.0
Last Weigh in: 212.8

Looking forward to getting to know the gals that know what its like to be in the 200's and longing for 199!

Take care.

Girlie 03-16-2006 02:20 PM

April - How exciting! I love wedding stuff - congratulations! Oh, and WELCOME!

ksjaberjaw 03-16-2006 02:23 PM

I have been reading the messages and everyone seems so helpful and understanding. I was just dx with Hypothyroid on Monday so now that I know why I wasnt able to lose weight now I can begin to work on loosing weight. We live in a very small community so we dont have weight watchers or any thing like that so I am on my own. We do have a curves but I am not comfortable going by myself. Plus I am one of those who dont like to go and work out alone because I wont go. If I am meeting someone I will go but other than that I wont go. I have been walking to the park with my 4 year old as often as I can. I do bowl on Wed. night but you cant really call that excersise. So I will have a long slow road ahead and a lot of bad habits to break. I am looking forward to the support that I have seen here.
I am working hard to get below 200 and feel that I am back to my old self and feeling confident again .:grouphug:

HippyHippo 03-16-2006 05:39 PM

Welcome applbride and ksjaberjaw! They really are a great bunch here and took me right under their wing!

I am feeling a bit better today. The queasiness has finally subsided but I still have this awful 'pain' in my side. It's not a continuous pain, doesn't hurt when I press on it (or on the opposite side), it hurts when I bend over or get out of bed - like I have a pin in my pocket and it sticks in me when I bend! It feels like a pinch! Got a doc's appt tomorrow anyway so will get it checked out. Just my 2 monthly check up for bp and to make sure I am doing ok with my metformin. Might even be a burst cyst cos it sounds the way other girls have described them on the PCOS forum I read. Either that or the carb lite jelly beans really did a number on me!

Girlie, you CANNOT eat spotted dick without custard, omg that's a sin!

Well, that's about it for today, I am still eating pretty light so as not to upset my stomach, if I do ok at the docs tomorrow and it's not too expensive I am going to join Curves. Anyone know how much they cost?

Sarah

DewCan 03-16-2006 06:02 PM

Hi KS and Appl

Thanks everyone. Yes I did curves it is 150 to join and 39 a month. At least that is what it was last year at this time. I didnt go. I could always come up with an excuse. That is why I am working out with my daughter. She is four and she will drive you nuts until you get up and take her to the park. So it is nice to have someone to make sure I get up and moving around.
