Good Morning Everybody! Happy Friday!!
Got all 4 pts for yesterday. Heavy duty cleaning, moving furniture and all, plus several trips up and down the stairs for laundry and groceries count for my exercise. My knees are not happy with me this morning.

Jeff, the boyfriend that dumped me New Year's Eve, has come back. He called, we talked, he told me he made a huge mistake letting me go, we straightened out the responsibility issue, he said his days weren't the same without me in them (melt) and we are going to give it another try. I feel good about it, so cross your fingers for me!

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

MORNING POINTS POINTS POINTS!

Julie: :cp:
SandyB: :cp:
Judy: :bravo:
Me: :bravo:

lbs down today, Judy 1, me 5 total of 6 for the group so far

Judy: I am glad you worked things out. I would be cautious though as he sounds like he needs to grow up some. Don't want to rain on your parade though, so I AM glad you are happy about it.

Julie: Woo, sounds like you are deep freezing. I thought I was cold with 30+ degree weather. I am going in just a little while after I take a shower to walk and go to the Walmart Neighborhood market for some nanners, some puppy pads and see if I can find something different for lunch.

SandyB: I think that is an excellent idea if everyone agrees!

**I need some input on what SandyB said about the gift. Let me know by e-mail, by post or by pm what you think of the winner being responsible for the next quarter gift and BTW, for someone who would be responsible and runs into a financial jam and can't I will always purchase the gift in that case.**

GOT MY HOUSE ALL CLEANED! :cb: :cb: I want to go and see Calendar Girls tonight. I know Jack is gonna hate it, but HE wants to go so.......

Well, girlies, I need to get a shower and get the walk in before it rains if it is gonna do that again today!

Faye:)

Hello Hello

A little dissappointed this morning. I've worked hard this past week with several 4 point days (including yesterday) and I step on the scale this morning expecting to see a tiny bit of progress, but no, I've gained a pound. hmpf!

Julie - Speaking of Maine summers...I was there this summer and it was absolutely beautiful. Our final destination was Acadia NP, and we watched the sun set from the top of the mountain.

Judy - "crossing fingers" for you and Jeff.

Good Morning Ladies,

Hi girls!

First of all I have missed you all. Its just not the same without dropping in to say hi. You have all become like part of my life;) .
The only thing I am happy about with this crash is that I got gizmo back! On my avatar...I had lost that file of his picture...but now there he is!:)

Secondly, on my last post I had asked if any of you girls had feedback for me regarding a small bugdet vacation I would like to take. Like a nice weekend getaway or a nice state to visit...something away from the city, but still a bit accessible. I have no clue...help!!:^:

Faye- glad to receive the invite...so we can all have a chat session in there? I would be glad to make it. Let me know when okay.;)

Susan- i agree with Faye in that you should drop him an email...a brief email saying you had a good time, if he is interested he'll catch on;) :D . But the key is letting him know because guys can be really dumb and clueless sometimes:lol: .

Julie- wowwww its cold here too. i am going upstate tomorrow and am sure it'll be colder up there...need to pack extra warm.

Judy- You must be excited about Jeff and I am happy for YOU, just keep a lookout okay;) .

SandyB- You're back! Glad to see you posting again. :dancer: :grouphug:

A big welcome to the new people! Hope you like it here.

Beth- hey there hope you doing good.

okay now as far as points i been staying o/p and drinking my water, but all I really remember is getting 3 pts for yesterday, Wed, and Tues. Today I am also doing good.

I think I'll weigh myself on Monday because TOM is here now so I won't bother weighing in today. Nonetheless, I feel I have lost weigh....lets see what the scale thinks:lol: .

Okay that's all for now i think...I will check back later on.

happy dance dot 01-09-2004 12:58 PM

Sandy/gigglez- hi there hope you doing good.

ahhh need to change my signature stats lol

gma22 01-09-2004 01:46 PM

Cathy: One of the best things here is that you participate where and when you want so you do whatever makes you happy. There is NO pressure to join into anything here, though I do keep an eye on everybody to see how they are doing! Oh and what link are you talking about? My website one? Supposedly those cookies on my website are lowfat. I personally didn't like them because they are like merangues, nothing to them.

Dorothy: Ok, you may have lost my pm about your trip when all this stuff crashed. I ask you how far away you wanted to go and what interests you have such as, casinos, amusement parks, outdoor stuff, historical stuff, pampering, music, whatever. I have been all over the place with Jack in the Navy so I can give a variety of stuff. Williamsburg, VA is a terrific historical visit and it has 2 amusement parks close by, Va Beach or Atlantic City if you gamble/beach, Cooperstown NY if you are a sports fan or Hershey Penn is fascinating even with the smell of chocolate all the time! Chicago is a great city with superb museums and restaurants though I don't know how far you want to go, Nashville is cool as is Memphis if you are a music fan. One of the things Jack and I have always wanted to do is go to a mystery weekend. You can go to yahoo and search just put in mystery weekends and it will give you tons of them. If you like to camp, go to the smoky mountains or even to the pocanos where you are. Go to Niagara Falls and visit the Canadian side which has some neat stuff to see. Gosh I could just keep going!

Ok, besides my cord mishap, I have again gone and done something DUMB! I got my shower and decided since I was going out to walk I would pick up a couple things from the store. I needed puppy pads, bananas and something for lunch. WELLLLLL, I got there and ended up buying 3 pk frozen fruit, a dozen eggs, puppy pads, bananas, a book, a 6 pak of juice to make smoothies with and some lunch for me. I had to walk about .6 home and those bags were HEAVY! I was soaked from sweat when I got home, my shoulder hurt and my back from kind of bending over because part of the walk is uphill. I cannot believe I did something so stupid. It did however give me a great cardio!

Gotta go!

Faye;)

Mirabelly 01-09-2004 02:18 PM

 Faye you are such a GOOF!

I had a "fit of fitness" once and decided to walk from school to work. I got out of class early and had several hours to kill. Didn't even THINK about the fact that it was like10 miles and uphill! Nothin' like sweatin' in pantyhose!!

Julie

cat90 01-09-2004 02:50 PM

Faye..LOL..at least you got a workout in  I have'nt been to myfamily yet..the other one with the smoothies on it :T speaking of workouts i've still got mine to do  and i've just put the kettle on  OK, got cuppa #4 or is it 5? this is the last one and then i've got to get off of here and do something..darn electronics keeping us all fat..i had to laugh on wednesday night because i was watching Prime Suspect and Helen Mirren (the Inspector) was in her home and the news came on and she was frantic looking for the tv remote control and for a moment i thought "you could have walked over to the set and turned the volume up by now" but would i have done?

Scuzin 01-09-2004 03:36 PM

I've having a weird day.

Just...off. I can't say not my usual self because I know I've been like this to vaying dergees forever. Just not a whole lot of people know it.
3 things set it off this morning, 1 right after the other. 1st was the pound I've gained. Usually I can deal with set backs pretty well, but usually I know what's caused the set back. I just feel out of control now. Some weeks I'll work my butt of and not see any difference and then I'll be slack a week and lose 3 pounds, I just don't get it, there is little consistancy. I know I have to get more in touch with my body and let it go at its own pace, but its still frustrating epecially seeing people who have more to lose than I do having lost it all in 1/2 the time (and still being pretty healthy about it).
2nd I got an e-mail from a friend of mine about whose idea it was to play a little trick on me last year. She and one of my best friends thought it would be funny to try and BS me a little by saying they were dating, since they thought I was jealous of their friendship. Let me just say that my feelings and attitude tward my best friend is too complicated for even me to figure out. I admit that I used to have very strong feelings for him, and I'm sure he knew it, at least part of the time, and I can be kind of possessive. I realized this morning that by caring so much for him and wanting to be so close I damaged any chance I had of actually being that close.
This brings me to something else...something that was touched on yesterday about who or what controls emotions in your life. I put way too much of myself into my encounters with people. Even to the point of letting it determine my self worth. I don't mean having lots of friends, but it bothers me when my real friends either ... aren't receptive, or I fear don't care about me as I do for them. I don't know. Its things like being here in my dorm on friday nights and hearing all the other people in the hall laughing and hanging out when I know I've blown my chance to become part of that circle. For all of last term I thought I was transfering so I didn't want to let myself become attached, so I didn't socialize, now they have their little click and I feel like a recluse. I've never cared much for social structure and could care less who "cool" people are. But it would be nice not to feel like the dorm outcast. ... Of course the same thing happened last year and I didn't think I was transfering...guess I'm an extrovert trapped inside an introvert.
3rd I got a responce from that guy I e-mailed. I guess I shouldn't be upset about that. It was pleasent, but anticlimactic.

Sorry for the long gripe....I just don't know where else I could say it.

Thanks Ladies, you've been a great addition to my life.

beth_on_the_beach 01-09-2004 08:13 PM

Hello all. Not really in the mood to post but wanted to say hello. I did get 4 points for yesterday I guess so that is good. Can't say the same about today. Since after Christmas I seem to be having a good day or two and then a bad day then a good day so on and so forth. I won't be making any progress this way that is for sure. I think I need to shoot for 3 good days in a row to get me back on track. When I make it to day 3 then day 4 won't be so hard and I will see the scale going down which will help keep me going, or so I hope.

Beth

beth_on_the_beach 01-09-2004 08:48 PM

Cathy - I saw that you posted you had lifted weights and you were sore and were just doing cardio today. Good going by the way. Anyway I just thought I would impart some of my knowledge, **** I pay enough for the biology classes I'm taking might as well get some good out of them.

Anyway, as I'm sure you may know or others may know the soreness is caused by lactic acid. Here is why that forms. All of your bodies cellular functions are fueled by something that is called ATP (Adenosine Tri-Phosphate). Without ATP there would be no life as we know it. Anyway ATP is produced normally by a combination of oxgyen and sugar. This whole process is called cellular respiration. There are two types of cellular respiration, aerobic and anaerobic. When oxygen is involved, which is the normal way, it is aerobic cellular respiration. This whole process is long and involved and I won't bore you with it here. We actually produce our body weight in ATP daily which I find amazing. Back to the point lol. The second type of cellular respiration is anaerobic cellular respiration, meaning it produces ATP without using oxygen. This is not as effective as aerobic cellular respiration but works in a pinch.

When you do an activity such as weight lifting your muscle tissue does not have enough oxygen to produce the needed ATP to fuel your activity so it produces it without oxygen. It gets the job done but also creates a by-product...lactic acid. The lactic acid causes your muscles to be sore. The best course of action when you have this soreness is to drink as much water as you can and keep moving. These two things will help transport the lactic acid to the liver where it is broken down and moved out of the body. Another interesting fact is that one of the reasons you see the scale go up when you start lifting weights is that if you have worked out hard enough for your muscles to be sore they are also storing water. Which is another reason to drink water to flush the excess out. So the increase on your scale is due to water retention in the sore muscles and muscle weight gain.

So...keep moving and drink water and the soreness will go away. Just don't stop lifting weights waiting for the soreness to go away.

Now that I have bored everyone to tears I will call it a night lol.

Beth

happy dance dot 01-10-2004 02:21 AM

Beth- Actually I found that info very useful...thanks. I mean i had an idea about the lactic acid having a connection with the soreness, but the water retention is new to me. I definately understand it better now.

SATURDAY: Today is Sunny Thoughts Saturday. Share with us anything you would like that is uplifting or funny.

Susan: First off about the weight thing. It is one of two reasons, I would suspect if you are working at it and you know it. You are either not eating enough to boost your metabolism to burn the fat or exercise for the same reason. Go to www.dietitian.com and use her healthy weight I think it is called calculator to find out how much you should be taking in. It takes 1/2 hour exercise everyday to maintain and an hour to lose. You also have to combine cardio and strength training not just one or the other. Weight training will up the metabolism and make your body lose faster. There is a 3rd thing and that is if you ARE where you should be in all aspects then I would see if I was losing inches. If you are a big exerciser, then you are replacing fat with muscle and muscle weighs more so you ARE losing but the scale doesn't say so! Secondly, friends came be real dumb bunnies sometimes. Don't be too hard on them, but don't let them off the hook either. Tell them you didn't find it funny and that you were insulted your friendship meant so little to them that they felt they needed to play a joke on you. Thirdly, as for friends etc. Since you are in an environment where everyone is pretty tightknit and you yourself have said you refrained from becoming a part of it, you MUST find friendships elsewhere. I don't know what your school schedule is like, but volunteering can not only be very uplifting, it is a way to meet new people. Check with your city about literacy programs for adults, hospital volunteering, meals on wheels for seniors, there are hundreds of things. REMEMBER what happened when the new school year starts and try and make friends with incoming students. You have to BE a FRIEND to MAKE friends, so you are going to have to initiate conversations places with people you don't know, which I know is hard. Go to hangouts like Starbucks, or student unions and take a book, but if someone sits down alone by you, say hello, how are you, do you come here a lot, is your home here, etc. You might be surprised at how many ways you can make friends outside your dorm. You keep coming here and we will keep on trying to make things alright for you. We love you!

You ladies have a great day. I am going to get dressed, do a load of laundry and read a book for awhile. Then it is out to walk, though NOT for groceries.

Oh, BTW, Calendar Girls was fantastic. I cried so hard I actually made a sound and Jack had to kind of help me calm down. I just related to the woman's situation I guess. It is a great movie and you should go see it if you can. Very funny too! One of the funny things last night, was I stopped at the restroom and told Jack just to go and get seats and I would meet him in the theater. When I got down there he was standing it the end of the ramp. I whispered, is it full already and he said, nooooo. I said, "What's the matter, then?" He said, "You'll see." I said, "Oh Lord, it's FULL of old people, isn't it?" Sure enough, it looked like 2 for one little old blue hair ladies day at the salon! One of the reasons it is funny is this is happening to us more and more and our dd is always telling us that we are old now because we have a big car and a little dog ! There were 2 young girls that had come with their mom, but everyone else was wayyyyyyyy over 50. It was cute, right before the movie started a troup of about 7 little ladies over 70 came in as a group and sat down.

:sunny: thoughts today ladies! Faye:)
