Steel Magnolias ó #58

Good Morning! The sun is shining and it's a beautiful day in my neighborhood! I have been to the grocery store and they had tp, regular kleen-x, and paper towels. Kleen-x was making me nervous because we use a lot and all that has been on the shelves had the lotion which doesn't help allergies nor cleaning glasses. Bob uses them on his glasses but I don't. The store wasn't all that busy so it didn't take long.

Susan, I saw on FB where someone referenced when we were little and had the days of the week on our underwear. Some days I could use that! The plumber is coming tomorrow! He finally called Bob yesterday afternoon, after Bob had left several messages, but we were out of town to pick up the plow Bob bought. ďOh well....Ē I am going to tell him it is not good PR to ignore messages. His wife runs his office so she could at least answer text messages even if she doesnít know the answer!

Ceejay, I had to giggle at the neighbor thinking you might be your sisterís mother. ;) Iím glad the rider is fixed for you to mow the large yard. Good luck car shopping if that is what you end up doing.

Now I need to put the rest of my groceries away and address a couple of church birthday cards. Hope you all enjoy a terrific Tuesday!

gma22 04-21-2020 04:30 PM

Goos afternoon. It is warm here today, near 80. Hopefully it will stay that way. We had rain all weekend so no weed killing. Theyíre going to overrun us soon! Jack bought cordless trimmer and a battery operated weed killer so first sunny day or at least dry one we are going to kill weeds!!!

Sadly my shoes have to go back. They fit but when I stand up there is no support with the straps and my foot slides sideways off the shoe. Jack said heíd mail them back Saturday. I decided to buy a pair of water shoes to wear on the beach, the ocean and the pool. I will not walk in the ocean barefoot. Gives me the creeps even though the water in the caribbean is clear. I also bought a solution for jellyfish stings just in case. Jack wants to snorkel when weíre at Coco Cay. We decided to spend the money for a cabana at the beach club so thereís less chance of any of us getting sunburned. I am taking loads of high sunscreen so we have plenty to reapply, but it is very easy to burn when in the caribbean. They have this fancy restaurant for your food when youíre at the beach club, but they also have your ďfairĒ type food outside of the club. Our suite on the ship allows us access to the specialty restaurants for free so I think the day weíre at Coco Cay weíll make reservations for the hibachi restaurant. Iím the only one thatís never been and since we donít have to pay if we arenít super hungry this will fit the bill.

Jean: I sure hope you can get your plumbing issue resolved. I donít know why these were built so shabbily, but they sure were. Our travel agent is a gem. She had it straightened out in a couple hours and our balance is correct. She even checked on our refund of the taxes and gratuities which they credit back to your credit card and my $550 in on board credit. I got a text from Jackson thanking me for the money. They have bought a new house so he didnít get the cards right away. He said he is bored being home. I imagine when youíre an only child thereís only so much video games you can stand to play by yourself. I told him Nonny looked like a freak since she couldnít get her hair or nails done.

CeeJay: I think one of the very hardest habits to break is eating and drinking while reading or watching tv. At least it is for me. Oh dear not sure how Iíd feel about someone thinking I was my sisterís mother. We are about two years apart but my health issues make me look older. I once had someone think I was Jackís mother! People canít believe heís 70 almost 71. I think itís because he never lets stress get to him, ever.

Susan: Our WM stores are awful. I donít shop in them much anymore, but my nail salon is in them. I have gone through 4 series of books since weíve been on ďlock down.Ē

Everyone have a good afternoon!

Morning
We have a light rain this morning.
Yesterday afternoon I worked in the yard for 2 and a half hours and can just see a dent in this flower bed. I think it's a flower bed any way. I worked around the peonies. I thought I smelled like wild onions but sis said it was chives. I still need to weed eat the rest of this area to see where I can go with the lawn mower. I shouldn't of let it go this long. I did find a border on one side. Sis said this bed was my bil's.
This morning I'm doing laundry and watching 600 pound life. Not a lot going on. I did talk to a neighbor for a bit in the front yard when I went to the mail box. Yes,we did social distancing.

Jean
Thanks for starting the new thread. I on a whim went down to our Dollar General store and low and behold the shelves were stocked with tp, kleen-x and paper towels. I bought some good toilet paper, cause the last toilet paper is rough. Hope your plumbing problems get fixed soon.

gma
Glad things are getting resolved concerning your postponed cruise.

Susan

gma22 04-22-2020 11:57 PM

Good evening. More darn rain and supposed to rain all day tomorrow. We are never going to be able to get these weeds cleared up.

Got an email they were rebooking my friendís flight because they canceled hers for Friday. Well, I canceled it back in March when they canceled the cruise and they refused to refund my $600 even though they said they would refund. So, I emailed them, gave them a piece of my mind and got an email back with a link about getting a refund, (I am guessing because they canceled the flight.) We shall se whether I get the money back.

Got my water shoes today and they should work great. They have holes to drain out the water and are mesh on top.

The scummy neighbors have been roaring their cars up and down the street so I hope Jack can sleep through it. I swear, people have no decency anymore.

CeeJay: My grandma grew the most beautiful pink peonies. She had a couple big flower gardens, one was all irises and the other was peonies and roses. The backyard always smelled so good in the spring and summer. Glad you were able to get the mowing done.

You all have a nice day tomorrow.

Jean 04-23-2020 04:08 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun was shining brightly but has disappeared. :( The contractor was here to texture the bathroom wall. I will be glad when he is done and out of here. He can’t just say hello and get to work, has to visit first. The plumbers finally came yesterday morning and I have a bright and shiny new hunk of sewer pipe in the basement. Bob poured bleach down the hole in the wall hoping there are no hunks of anything "bad" floating around. I am tired of the "hurry up and wait game" as well as a house full of cement and sheet rock dust. I'd love to move out for a week and hire someone to come in and clean from top to bottom. In my dreams . . . . . .

”Gma,” I’m with you in walking barefoot in the lake or ocean! I wouldn’t put a toe in a river, ever. I’m glad you got your cruise credit straightened out. I was surprised at the price of your friend’s airline ticket. Our tickets to Maui were only $500, think it was a 20 minute special! We had empty seats coming and going. We have a neighbor across the street who is a “young” doctor in charge of our ER. Their yard facing the street is nothing but a junk hole with an old laundry tub sometimes with flowers in it, various mismatched flower pots scattered around the yard, a rusty star on the siding, Christmas lights, and an UI flag. His driveway always has a duck boat, pontoon trailer, ice fishing house, or a side-by-side parked in it. He drives a pickup with loud mufflers and roars up and down the street. Bob says he is a spoiled farm brat junking up the neighborhood. I’m glad I don’t have to look at it on a daily basis since he is a couple houses away from us.

Ceejay, we had peonies when we first moved here. The kids were little and they were close to the back door with the kids in and out all the time. For some reason the flowers attracted flies which followed the kids in the house. I’m glad you got some “good” tp! :cheer: That is important!

Hope you all are enjoying today and doing something you enjoy.

ceejay52 04-24-2020 03:39 PM

It's another rainy afternoon so no yard work for me or sis. It's okay by me.
Nothing else going on.

Have a good day.

Jean 04-24-2020 04:23 PM

Happy Friday! It is a gloomy cool day in my neighborhood. I made a quick trip to the grocery store this morning; Bob has been hinting he is hungry for goulash. I need to start cutting halved recipes even more as we will be eating leftover goulash for a week. I should have left my locker hamburger in 1# packages instead of going to pound and a half. Live and learn! I did get a load of laundry done while fixing lunch. I need to vacuum and really could dust this afternoon. I think the contractor is done making his mess and next is painting the new bathroom wall.

Ceejay, guess we all need a rainy day every now and then. Hope you have sunshine tomorrow! :flow1:

I have a lunch pan to wash and put away so better get to it. The vacuuming is next! Enjoy the rest of your day!

Jean 04-25-2020 06:30 PM

Good Afternoon! We had sunshine this morning but it is raining now. We actually do need a little rain as the farmers were making dust fly as they worked in the fields. We counted money at church this morning and $5000+ went to the bank. The pastor sent out an email plea that pay checks were in question this month. Several people, including us, think he is paid way too much for what little he does as compared to our last pastor. There are two or three others taking up space that jobs could be eliminated to save money. Anyhow, Bob has painted the bathroom and put the medicine cabinet, blinds, and shelf back in place. I've done some laundry and warmed up leftovers for lunch. Gloomy weather sure isn't very motivating!

I have the vacuum out to clean up saw dust chunks and dust so better get to it. Everywhere I look is dust! Hope to see some more visitors today. Enjoy the rest of your super Saturday!

QuilterInVA 04-26-2020 11:52 AM

Good morning ladies. 62 degrees and rain.

Same old housework, quilting and reading everday. Hardly know what day it is let alone the date. I am tired of cooking so I am ordering a pizza today. If it kills me, I'll die happy.

Jean, my friend Glory is in a mess. She is having hardwood floors out in. She has been living with the bedrooms and hallway floors torn out since March 11. We are in lockdown until June 10 so she has everything from those rooms in her living and family room.

Hello Donna and Ceejay.

Jean 04-26-2020 06:52 PM

Good Afternoon! It's a beautiful day in my neighborhood, sunny and warm with the sliding doors open and birds chirping. Ernie was sitting by the door and the cat food eating robin was sitting on the rail scolding him because Ernie was on the cat food side. We tried to go to the Sioux City church online this morning but they were having trouble with their audio and the pastor sounded like he was speaking in another language. They were going to try again this afternoon so will check later. We ended up going to our former pastor in Des Moines after checking the current pastor's presentation. After lunch we went to the local nursery to get flowers, bought enough geraniums for eight pots in front of the house. Have to decide on flowers for the deck and patio yet. I found the cutest plant called bunny tails and can't decide where to put it so the cats won't play with it.

Susan, I visited with a friend on the phone yesterday and her comment was, “same sh*t, different day!” when I asked her what she was doing. I think everyone is so anxious to get back to some sort of normal, whatever that might be. I just hope there is some common sense in getting together in large groups too soon. I want to go back to carpet and need to start with three bedrooms and hall upstairs. I have ceramic tile in the kitchen and it is time to replace that, then carpet the tv area and living room. I hate the thought of everything being moved but it has been 25/26 years since we’ve done anything and it is time. Painting will have to come first after I get the stuff sorted and gone. It seems likes every time I sort through one are I make another mess.

It's hard to believe April is almost over; hoping May is a much better month! Not much newsy from here today. Hope you all are enjoying a special Sunday!

ceejay52 04-27-2020 11:13 AM

Hi every one
We went to our online church service yesterday morning and then headed to Battlefield for my nephew's son's birthday party. It was an extremely beautiful day to be outside. Got to talk my former neighbor. He had helped nephew with decorating the yard. They got to be buddies when nephew stayed with me.
Everything went very smooth. I know I shouldn't have but I held both babies. They don't understand the mask and tried to pull mine off.
Sis worked in her flower bed after we got back home. I took a nap. I've been lethargic and depressed for a little while but when I do this I'm usually low on B12 so I've started taking that again and am beginning to have a bit more energy.
It's raining this morning. I was hoping to get outside this afternoon.
I've decided to get a new vehicle but only if nephew pays me cash for mine. It will be another Rav4.

Jean
I'm kinda leery about getting back into large crowds when we try to go back to normal. We only had 10 people at the party yesterday and I did wear my mask. And most of it was outside. Are you going to redecorate as you put down new carpet?

Susan
I'm with you in barely knowing what day of the week it is. Yesterday felt like a Monday.

Hi gma

Jean 04-28-2020 01:08 PM

Good Morning! We got up to rain measuring .15" when the sun came out. Last evening the family cat of three, mom and her two kittens born late last fall, were on the deck when Bob spotted a teeny tiny black kitten coming across the yard. It belongs to either the mother or her twin kitten we call Look Alike because their markings are identical. Both big cats and baby spent the night in the converted birdhouse Bob left on the deck. Baby is sleeping in the birdhouse now while the rest took off to parts unknown. I hope the real mom comes back! I called to vet's office to pick up insulin for Ernie and guess what, they are out! At one point I was assured that they always had it on hand, yeah right. Lucky for them we are not out but getting close. There is another vet in town but they cater to mostly farm animals but would think they might have it. I don't know if it is like people insulin or not. I just had an oriole show up! The pole is out but the feeders are still packed away so will find them when Bob comes home for lunch. Meanwhile, the oriole is checking out the bird seed and potato chip crumbs. Our Methodist bishop is advising no in church building services until after June 1st. Not sure if all the UMC will adhere to that request or not. Some of our smaller stores are opening Friday, dining in restaurants to half of their capacity, but not hair and nail salons. I was bummed!

Ceejay, I hope the B12 will help you feel better. Since our weather has turned warmer people are out working in their yards, walking dogs, and kids are on bikes riding in the parks. I noticed there weren’t as many early shoppers at the grocery store yesterday. The lady was still wiping carts down though. Now it sounds like there is going to be a major meat shortage. :(

Guess I have rambled enough and the dryer should be finished by now. Hope you all enjoy a terrific Tuesday!

Jean 04-29-2020 12:33 PM

Good Morning! The sun is shining brightly and the 35 mph wind is blowing anything that is loose around the neighborhood. I have laundry washing and drying while I baked some frozen peanut butter cookie dough. I didn't think it had a whole lot of taste to it, and the date on the box is 2021. I need to have my glasses adjusted but saw on FB where I have to call for an appointment, call them from the car when I get there and someone will come to get me, and I have to wear a mask. I don't have a mask so guess I won't be going any time soon. It's a good thing I have my old glasses or could use Bob's cheaters. I don't have anything planned for the rest of the day except to address a couple of sympathy cards. Our mail delivery has been so irregular lately I will take them to the po after lunch.

I need to get back to my sorting and pitching project. Some day I might be able to call it done but not any time soon. :( Hope you enjoy your wonderful Wednesday and do something you enjoy.

ceejay52 04-29-2020 08:38 PM

Afternoon
We had a loud thunderstorm last night with 60 mph wind. Only one home had damage from our area after a tree falling on a house. Another street had some trees down but no property damage. It's windy and cold today.
Earlier this morning I did a load of laundry and during that time I get a phone call from my nephew asking if I could take him to the doctor, his therapist. He is having a reaction to one of his med's. rash on upper part of his body.
Yesterday I was going though my summer clothes and hanging some of those up in the closet. I miss my 2 huge closets that I had in Battlefield. and had some for donation. While I was in Springfield this afternoon I took them to a Convoy of Hope donation collection box. Then I recycled some plastic bags. A productive day for me.
Yesterday I worked in the yard for about 1.5 hours. I have some areas that I have to use the old fashion hand clippers. Then I got some of the dead stalks out of the fennel bush. I'm not finished with that but will tomorrow.

Jean
I hear that several places like the vet's office is having to wait in their vehicles until it's time for their appointment. A lot of the doctor's office will only let the patient come in. Not even their spouse is allowed. I think I would like the tele-medicine that's being used now. I'm trying to go back through some things that I thought were important to me but I've never even opened that box since I've been here. Like my clothes.

Hello's to gma and Susan

gma22 04-30-2020 10:01 AM

Good morning everyone. I think everyone is fed up with this. Our governor put out the word on Tuesday hair salons and such could open May 5 then did a press conference yesterday saying they couldnít open until May 29th and anyone who did would be fined and lose their business license. Itís like living in communist Russia. These politicians get their jollies over the power they have. In FL the hotel industry is being forced to stay shuttered until the end of July!!! The reason I know is I was looking at hotels for vacation next year and they all had the end of July for the first dates they were taking reservations. They are going over the top with changes too and some are ridiculous. The only way we are going to know what will happen is to start going back to normal. I ordered masks but only because they are forcing people to wear them. Jack says rumor has it next week is the last week for the idiocy at work. They are making them sit in their vehicles until supervisors come out and take their temps. If they have any fever they will be sent home. This is our moron mayorís edict.

I havenít posted because I have nothing to say. I havenít left the house since the end of February and every day is the same thing over and over.
I am glad everyone is doing ok and hopefully we can return to normal soon.

QuilterInVA 04-30-2020 12:07 PM

Good morning, ladies! 72degrees and thunderstorms. We have been having really high winds.

Dentists and elective surgery resume tomorrow. We still haven't peaked in VA but it looks like another week. I miss the YMCA a lot.

I am hand piecing a throw quilt to keep busy.

ceejay52 05-01-2020 12:58 PM

Morning
Not doing a lot of anything this morning. Have a small load of whites in the dryers. Did an hours worth of work in the yard yesterday and I must say it's looking the way my bil had it last year. I'm going to mow some today. Sis has to work today.

Susan
I like the quote. So very true. I miss going to the gym also. I may have to look into a small fitness center at the next town over which is about 10 miles . Right now I'm getting my exercise in the yard.

Hello's to gma and Jean.

Jean 05-02-2020 02:11 PM

Happy welcome to the month of May! It's cloudy and cool with a few sprinkles of rain this morning. I've been to church to count money, doesn't take long when there isn't much but every little bit helps. Amanda's birthday is Monday and I asked for ideas on her wish list, one being silicone baking mats. Our Hallmark gift shop is open again so I sent a text and picked those up on my way home. Love their gift wrap, the paper is always so pretty with bows to match. Now I have laundry in the washer and dryer so will think about something for lunch. This afternoon is more sorting and pitching.

Ceejay, I am anxious for our SOS store and Good Will to open again. My better clothes and things go to the SOS store but it is run by retired volunteers so not sure how eager they are to deal with the public so soon. I read a hint about taking a picture of something that you really don’t want to part with but no longer use or have room for. So far I haven’t done that. I have a lot of cat things and most of them have some sort of memory attached and I can’t part with them yet. I have found clothes packed away I forgot I had. :o You are going to be the neighborhood yard work queen!

”Gma,” we now have our first verified virus case at the packing plant. I hope the governor doesn’t rescind our salon opening on the 15th. One plant in eastern Iowa closed and one south of us has cut back their hours. I wish ours would close permanently. I did notice the frozen meat section was pretty bare at the grocery store. They claim there will be a meat shortage. I finally got an appointment to get my glasses fixed. I have to call from the car, wait for someone to take my temperature, and wear a mask to get into the building. I wonder if they think people are so stupid they wouldn’t know if they were sick with a temp. I do think more and more places will require masks. Both of our grocery stores are requiring employees to wear them. I read on FB that wearing the gloves is the worst thing to do.

Susan, I think Iowa has yet to peak and the governor is opening things little by little. We still won’t have in building church services for the month of May :( but that is by individual church denomination choice. All churches around here are opting to stay with online services. Some restaurants are doing limited dining in but most are staying with carry out. Share a picture of your quilt?

I need to head to the kitchen, the man of the house just came in from the garage looking for food. Hope you are enjoying the day wherever you are!

ceejay52 05-02-2020 03:01 PM

Afternoon
My plan was to mow the yard yesterday and did part of it with the rider. But when I started with the push mower and got out in the garden area it quit working. Don't know what is going on. I'm going to try again in a little bit to see if it will start. I may have to call some one. My nephew was supposed to come out and help but he and his brother are taking the kiddos camping tonight on my other nephews property.
Waiting on sis to get home. She is dealing with driving nephew around and his wife is being hateful about letting him have the boys. Glad I'm not involved in that one.

More later I'm anxious to get started in the yard but can't. UGH.

Jean 05-03-2020 04:37 PM

Good Afternoon! It's another beautiful day with sunshine and no wind! The sliding doors are open and the birds are chirping to each other. The orioles have arrived as well as the yellow finches and one hummingbird so far. My morning didn't get off to the best start with me dumping my oj on the Sunday paper. The paper did eventually dry out and was readable for what little news was in it. We watched the online church service from Sioux City again this morning. When we are able to actually go to church again they are going to start the first Sunday with their Palm Sunday service and have the Easter celebration service the following Sunday. We plan to go to that one! My claim to fame so far today is defurring Ernie's favorite chair. He is really shedding and I should do that every day but I don't. Vacuuming it works the best but I am lazy about dragging the vacuum out just to do his chair.

Ceejay, hope your mower is a simple fix. It is frustrating when something doesn’t work! Hope your nephews had a good time camping with the kids. I bet the kids had more fun.

Bob is going to grill and I have fresh string beans to cook. Thinking a veggie salad will call it good. Hope you enjoy a nice rest of the day!

ceejay52 05-04-2020 12:55 PM

Morning
I'm not sure I agree with Missouri's governor about going back to work today. Yesterday Lowe's were full of shoppers and I forgot my mask. Some had mask and some didn't. Sis wanted to go get a few things for her flowers. I thinks she has convinced herself to let some things go until she retires. I will still continue to help but it's hard. It stormed while we were there.
Nephew and the boys had a fun time camping. I'm so thankful that nephew is realizing that his marriage is not good. I know I've been rough on him but I think he is turning to the next chapter. If the weather is good this afternoon I'm going to go pick him up and bring him out here so he can look at the small lawnmower. I think he's backed out of buying my vehicle. The Kelly Blue book is showing a good resale value on it and I don't think he wants to spend that much money on a vehicle at the moment. Fine with me. I didn't want to sell just now.
We are under a severe thunderstorm warning this morning.
Sis and I watched our online church from Atlanta and our small church has started doing some online things too We have some talent in our small congregation.

gma
Hang in there. We are all hoping that this pandemic will be over with soon. I have to look at my phone to see what day of the week it is.

Jean
I like the idea of starting the services off with Palm and Easter Sunday. A good way to restart after the pandemic. The one thing I liked about the cat I was keeping for my niece is that while she shed it wasn't a lot.

gma22 05-04-2020 04:45 PM

Good afternoon! Overcast dreary, but very warm and humid today. Jack should be home in about an hour or so. I didnít get much done today except pack up a handbag I decided I didnít like and Jack can take it to UPS on Saturday. I put ribs in the crockpot and am going to air fry some okra and heat up some pre made hush puppies as Jack likes them. Iíll get the ribs out soon and put sauce on them and finish them in the oven.

Our power went out Friday and midnight and didnít get fixed until 3:30 pm on Saturday. It was hot and sticky and boring! I couldnít even read because my books are all on my Ipad and it was drained. I didnít want to drain my Iphone so had to just sit! What happened is some numbskull driving to fast lost control and creamed two electrical poles. Three sousand people without power.

I had to buy a new Ipad as my old one went to Ipad heaven. I had to get a bigger sized one, which Iím not thrilled about, but bought new handbag big enough to stick it in. Nordstroms was having a huge sale so got my bff and myself straw bags to take to the beach on the cruise. I got a great deal on them and theyíll hold everything we want to take to Coco Cay. Bought some cute earrings really inexpensively too. Hurrah we did get the airline ticket money back so now we have gotten all the monies back from the canceled cruise. We just turned around and put it back into the new one.

CeeJay: I told Jack heís going to have to respray those darn weeds. I may end up having to pay someone to come in and dig them up as I canít get down to do it. People are just desperate to get out of their homes. I certainly canít blame them. Until my salon can open back up and I can get my hair done Iím not going anywhere. Besides it growing out, the gray is becoming a real issue now.

Susan: Jack needs surgery on his other dominant hand, but it has to wait as the childrenís hospital is the only one doing elective right now or at least thatís the news reports. Iíve just been reading a lot. All this rain is killing my hands so knitting is out right now.

Jean: I got an email Saturday that my groceries at Kroger were ready to be picked up Sunday. Jack went and came home saying they were way behind. He went back at 11:30 and called and said he was waiting because they were just starting to shop for our stuff! He found out from the gal that the computer system went flooey. I bought meat this weekend just in case and rearranged the freezers putting all the meat in the one and packaged stuff like frozen veg, etc in the other.

Everyone have a good afternoon.

Jean 05-05-2020 06:05 PM

Good Afternoon! It's cloudy, breezy, and damp chilly outside today. We have had a half inch of rain during the night and this morning. I made a chicken rice casserole for lunch and needed a can of soup so made a quick trip to the grocery store. From the looks of the soup choices and quantities, it looks like a soup shortage is on the way. I mentioned it to the checker and she agreed saying she noticed the same thing when she needed soup.

Ceejay, this morning there were no customer masks at the grocery store. The checkers had masks on but the carry out kids did not. They carry groceries out to your car either in a cart or by hand. I was surprised the lady spraying the carts coming in the door didn’t have a mask on either. It sounds like things are going better for your nephew and I hope that continues. It makes life easier for the whole family.

“Gma,” you were without power for a long time! I can always think of so many things to do when a utility is shut off! Hope you like your new iPad, I love mine! I hate reading anything on my phone except short text messages. Super that you got your cruise money straightened out! :cheer: There are now virus deaths in the Sioux City/Sioux Falls area packing plants. So far all are immigrants go to work sick and spread the virus. One plant shut down for “cleaning” and the other cut their shift hours. The paper said to expect many more deaths because of the employees who work there and live with multiple family members. Our one grocery store and WM both do online shopping. I have a friend who tried the grocery store and only got a few things on her list. I go to the store that closes at 7 to sanitize the store area, shelves, and carts.

Not much newsy going on here on this dreary day. Hope you have a nice day and enjoy.

ceejay52 05-05-2020 11:55 PM

Evening
Sis told me last night that nephew was having some emotional upset so I decided that I would go visit with him today. I wanted to go by the bank while there too. I asked him what he wanted for lunch so I stopped by and pick that up and we ate lunch together. He was working. His x called to say that she was bringing his cats over so I got to see the boys. While I was there my other nephew called and told us that he heard a new Family Pharmacy jingle and my name was mentioned in it. My x niece does advertisements etc for a living. It had a stay at home theme The boys told what they missed and I was one of them. Made my day. Then she did the main theme for the advertisement and another of the grand kids sang Family Pharmacy. Do you think she's trying to get back into good graces with us.
I watched a Perry Mason movie tonight so I don't think I will watch his show. I may watch some thing else.

One of the grocery stores in Spring field is limiting the purchases of meat. They do not want the hoard to start with that, like the toilet paper.

gma and Susan hello. I'll be back in the morning to do more commenting

Happy Wednesday! We had sunshine this morning but the clouds have rolled in with more rain on the way. Bob is mowing as are a couple of other neighbors and the new couple next door is having a tree cut down. It is noisy around here! I made a quick trip to town this morning. I needed a a couple of special cards and the Hallmark shop got in another shipment of face masks. I broke down and bought one just in case more stores begin to require them to get in their store. One of our local grocery stores is now limiting the amount of meat purchases. I don't usually shop there and we have meat in the freezer so that doesn't really affect us. I have been trying to balance a bank statement for a couple days and am really frustrated. We switched both of our accounts to a different bank but I use my debit card more than writing checks. I enter IRA amounts months in advance so I don't forget them; whatever I have or have not done correctly is a puzzle. Bob offered to go over it with me so hope he is more successful than I am. The bank says I have more than I think I have so that is good.

Ceejay, it was nice of you to pick up lunch for your nephew. I’m sure he appreciated your company. How fun to hear your name mentioned in the pharmacy ad. Then to have the little boys say they miss you, how special! Is this the niece who is/was married to the nephew you had lunch with?

Hope you all are having a wonderful Wednesday washing your hands and staying healthy!

This is the niece that was married to my nephew. Hope you can balance the check book. I'm like you and use my debit card. I don't have checks anymore. My utilities come directly out of my checking account and soon nephew will be paying those. I wanted him to get ahead some on this finances.

gma
wow you are a great friend to buy things for you bff. We had a bad thunder storm the other afternoon and our power blinked but came back on. Some of the other cities were not so lucky.

Hi Susan

I made a trip to WM yesterday in Republic to get some groceries.
I mowed the yard yesterday with the rider and completed most of the weed eating. Boy this is a huge yard. This afternoon I'm going to finish the weed eating around the garden and pine tree and work on getting the grass between the flagstone on the patio.
My fitbit bit the dust. It's been draining the battery too often and I just let it die. I've been wanting a new fitbit so I ordered one last week It came yesterday. I've set it up and charged it last night. I'm wearing it today.
It's a bright sunny morning but a bit cool. It was 63 in the house so I've tuned the heat on to get out the chill.
I'm going to put a load of clothes in the washer and fix breakfast.

Every one have a good day.

Good Morning! The sun is trying to peek through the clouds without much luck. The gift shop had an employees only sale for two days so had a little cash and a couple checks to deposit. Most do payroll deduction. I stopped by the "other" grocery store because they had "new" strawberries in their ad yesterday. The strawberries were huge and bruised - icky looking. Also checked green beans and they were sick looking too. I walked by the toothpaste on my way out the door and there weren't very many boxes, mostly bare shelves. Wonder if we should be stocking up on toothpaste? This grocery has the one shopper, one cart sign when you go in but the Mexicans still shop in groups and ignore the aisle arrows. I ignored the aisle arrows too because what I wanted is right inside the door.

Ceejay, Bob couldn’t figure out my bank statement either so won’t use that debit card nor write any checks from that account until I get the next statement. I write very few checks from that account, usually gift checks or donations. My addition and subtraction figures are all correct but for some reason I don’t agree with the bank! Or the bank doesn’t agree with me. Since it’s a new account there isn’t a lot to go back through to double check next month. It does bug me though. Enjoy your new Fitbit!

I think we are going to see Jason and family on Saturday after we count church money. Beth and her family are planning to come here Sunday. I suppose I should do a once over dusting and vacuuming tomorrow. I have clothes in the washer that should be done so better keep moving. Have a terrific Thursday and enjoy!

ceejay52 05-08-2020 03:40 PM

I haven't done a lot this morning.
Didn't eat breakfast either. Not sure why but I wasn't hungry till about 11.30 and then fixed a bacon, and tomato sandwich. I'm fixing chicken Alfredo for dinner. Have a taste for that. I do use the jarred Alfredo sauce, but cook the chicken and spaghetti.
It's cold today with a North wind blowing. Supposed to be down to 35 degree's tonight. I think this cold snap is what my grandpa referred to as blackberry winter.
I just read on FB from a reliable source that one of our health care facility is furloughing employees and asking others to take a cut in pay. This is due to no patients. What I say is going on here!. It doesn't make a bit of sense. I'm beginning to believe this is conspiracy.
Can't believe that this is Friday once more. I'm going to clean house and do a load of towels this afternoon. To cold to get outside this afternoon
I'm not sure what our Mother's day plans will be.

Jean
I like the new fitbit. I wear it like a watch. And it even tells me how much sleep I'm getting. I slept till almost 9 this morning as I was tired and raining last night.
It showed I had 7.43 hours of sleep.

Hello's to Susan and gma

gma22 05-11-2020 09:23 AM

Good morning! Trying to get used to the new Ipad as the keyboard is completely different from my other one. Slows me down, but Iím getting there. Nothing much happening here. Restaurants are opening. but not much else. They arenít letting salons open without tremendous changes. Personally, I think itís totally ridiculous. If this is as viralant as they say, then I would think just being in a building and cough, etc would spread it and itís not showing that to be the case. Like I told Jack last night, they put markers so you are six foot away from the next customer, but theyíre not facing you. You are looking at his back. If he coughs, anyone around him can inhale it not just each person in front or back and since his back is to you and th person in front of him has their back to him, plain doesnít make sense. They have AC or furnaces blowing air which will circulate any germs. Itís just plain stupid. Same thing with salons. Theyíre making them wear face shields, gloves, 50% occupancy, spread out chairs, etc. If some numbskull goes in sick, theyíll spread it to everyone, not just the person next to them or their stylist. Jack has gone into grocery stores, postal/ups stores multiple times, gotten gas, gone to work everyday so has had multiple exposures and is perfectly fine. These ďexpertsĒ canít see the forest for the trees imo. I think my anger is with the fact people are losing their livelihood and businesses over this. The beaches are open, which they claimed caused so much sickness in Florida. No, idiot kids stuffed into bars getting dead drunk, puking, etc and being positive is what caused it. Doesnít take a rocket scientist to see that. :soap:

The public works director let schedules go back to normal but isnít allowing anyone to take time off and they continue to work holidays. Another bozo in the mix. I mean come on, taking time off means one less person exposed or exposing. Jack says itís because heís afraid people will travel more than 50 miles which is the limit theyíre allowed to travel. Well, hotels are closed for the most part so no staying overnight, entertainment places are closed, so where the heck would they be going? On top of that, they can drive from here to Tunica, which is about 30 miles and catch something from someone who has it. It is moronic. Jack has circles under his eyes from being tired. I mean the man is nearly 71 for goodness sake. He hasnít had any time off except weekends since January. He tries to do chores etc on weekends so he doesnít exactly get rest on the weekends. I told him forget what needs to be done and just veg Saturday and yesterday. You want someone sick, run down their immune system like those idiots are doing to the employees.

CeeJay: I am sure your nephews enjoyed the time with you. They cut 160 jobs at St Judes fund raising section called ALSAC. My daughter works there but donít know if she lost her job or not. I sure hope not. People canít give to charity if they donít have grocery money. We have to have checks as I have to pay our HOA fee with a check. Everything else I pay online. Have to say my checks last a long time though.

Jean: I have been rounding up for years so my checking account is never ďbalancedĒ per se. As long as I am in the black I don't worry about it. I havenít been in any stores so would probably be shocked by the changes. I quit buying bananas when we shop online for delivery or pick up. Even if I tell them no bruises, they just pick whatever they want. I bought a 4 pak of fresh corn and they sent corn that had two bad spots that you could see. It was ridiculous.

Time to get a move on. Have a good week.

QuilterInVA 05-11-2020 11:29 AM

Good morning, ladies. 72 and cloudy today.

Virginia has had 2 days of lower number of new cases so hopefully we have peaked. Phase 1 was delayed a week but Friday it begins. Salons will be allowed to open but no walk ins, by appointment only, masks and gloves and sanitizing between each customer. Restaurants at 50% capacity. Other businesses can open. Masks are required.

Two of my friends died last week from Covid-19. I have been really depressed. I have a doctor's appointment next Monday. He is seeing 1 patient per hour so they can sanitize and no one in waiting room.

I am going to the grocery store this week. Half of what I order is out of stock and I have a very picky eater who won't eat but a few kinds of catfood. We have senior hour and I will wear my mask and gloves. As soon as I get inside the front door, I will take all my clothes off get a shower and clean clothes before anything else.

Two of my friends and I have set up a Zoom group. We are making the same quilt pattern using our stash. We set up a meeting from 1-3 pm weekdays and sew together and talk. Fun.

Donna, people can have the virus with no symptoms. The mask isn't to protect you but to protect others. This is a novel virus which means no human has immunity for it.Our hospitals went back to doing elective surgery a week ago.

Jean, I pay bills online and use my debit card 95% of the time. I check my credit card and checking account daily online. Stores need some on who speaks Spanish at the door to keep the Mexicans in line.

Ceejay, you are saving your sister a lot of time and/or money doing that big yard. Your nephew has really had a time. It's nice of you to take care of the utilities for now.

Have a blessed day.

ceejay52 05-11-2020 12:50 PM

Susan
OH,my, So so sorry to hear that you have had friends to pass with COVID19. What a fun thing to do to meet up with friends on Zoom! I keep in contact with bff through messenger text.

Our small church has been having online services through you tube. We don't have any special equipment, just the use of our cell phone camera's.
Our mother's day celebration included 2 birthday's also. My nephew's brother C, had a birthday on the 4th and his daughter had a birthday on the 2nd. He had a cook out on Saturday. It was very enjoyable. My nephew, A, the one who has stayed with me, had his three children so we had two babies. I got my baby fix. and an announcement was made that nephew's C's wife is expecting in December.
I'm doing laundry this morning. and am going to re- pot a plant that has out grown its original pot. I should probably do two more plants this way too. These are plant from bil's funeral.
Have a good day.

Jean 05-11-2020 06:49 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining but it's chilly. We have covered flowers for the last three nights and the flowers are beginning to look a little smushed. We had a nice weekend and it flew by; went to SD on Saturday for lunch with Jason and his family while Beth and Maddy came here yesterday for lunch. Will hurt his back at work so was bonding with ice packs and Kolby was miserable with allergies. I received more flowers for the deck and one inside flowering plant that Ernie thought would taste good and promptly dumped it. I've been doing laundry most of today, not sure how I got so far behind. Bob is getting his tooth pulled tomorrow morning. It began to hurt again on Thursday and he tried the oil pulling along with Excedrin and ibuprofen. Same thing happened as before, after a day of being miserable it was the fine. It has been so weird doing the same thing but three plus months is long enough and it won't get any better. While we were at Jason's we got a call that Bob's ex sister-in-law had died. She is the one who thought she was still part of our family and came to all the family get togethers. Anyhow, she had been babysitting grandkids and started with a cough. It kept getting worse and she made a doctor's appointment. The night before her appointment she couldn't quit coughing so moved to sleep on the couch and her husband found her the next morning. Bob's brother thinks/hopes they will do an autopsy because she hadn't been sick at all.

Ceejay, I’ve never heard of blackberry winter. I wonder if that is a southern thing. I thought Fitbits were watches. Goes to show what I know, not much. I wear just a regular watch. I’m glad you enjoyed your weekend. Seeing the babies is always a plus! :D

”Gma,” I made a quick trip to WM for orphan food and Ernie treats. There was not one bag of Ernie’s kind to be found and the rest of the cat food choices were pretty sparse. One checker and people lined up with carts full of groceries. They did have cream of celery soup but no oriental flavor ramen noodle soup. The chicken flavor I used was gross, no taste to it and a weird yellow color. They have arrows in the aisles now but no one was paying attention to them, me included. Going early there aren’t many people shopping. We still have to wipe down our own cart. I personally think it will be awhile before people quit wearing masks. The checker had gloves on which I didn’t like and they say that is the worst thing to do. We have had really green bananas lately but no “good” strawberries. The stores have put a limit of meat purchases also.

Susan, I am so sorry about the loss of your friends! Our local numbers are going up but they aren’t saying it is from the packing plants. I am guessing it is. However, the newspaper said the number of hospital admissions in Sioux City is down. That’s good since that county was a hot spot and still shut down. There is no need for Spanish speaking greeters to explain the one shopper rule to the Mexicans. They all speak English but play dumb. Good luck finding your cat food!

Not much else is newsy from here. Hope you are enjoying a marvelous Monday!

ceejay52 05-12-2020 01:55 PM

Morning
It's raining today and supposed to all week. It's chilly enough to have the heater on.
Our church board sent out an email for us to take a survey as to resume services starting the 17th. I haven't heard back from it.
Need to go to the grocery store or to DG.
Nephew is interested in buying my vehicle. He tried to start his vehicle on Saturday and after I saw the front end I don't think he can drive it. Sis is going with me to where she bought her vehicle for me to look. I told her we may not qualify but I will look. I'm also going to go ahead a fill out the paper work online to see If I'm qualified. My car would be perfect for nephew. I need to get the oil changed and clean it up.

Jean
Blackberry winter is something I've always grown up with. Grandpa would comment around the time the blackberries would bloom that it always got cold, therefore blackberry winter. I think it is a southern thing or maybe just a northeast Arkansas thing.

Hello's to gma and Susan
