Steel Magnolias — #50

Good Afternoon! It was 7 degrees when I came downstairs this morning. :brr: We've had sunshine most of the day until about an hour ago. The snow, except on the north side and protected spots are still visible. It was a hoot watching the kittens play in the snow. We had leaves on the deck which added to their fun. I spent most of the morning doing some laundry and making a casserole. Cooking is such a waste of time for me! It has rice in it and makes a 9x13" pan; I put some of the leftovers in the freezer so will see how that works. I've never frozen rice before. Bob and farmer friend were hoping the sun melted the snow on the corn so they could keep going. He has been gone long enough they must be working.

“Gma,” we got enough snow yesterday to cover the deck and yard. It wasn’t even pretty coming down. :( Bob and I went together to get his hair cut and my trim. He usually takes at least 45 minutes to an hour and I am always over an hour with the previous hair dresser. This gal had us both in and out in a half hour! I can hardly wait to see how fast she does a perm; mine have always been a three hour ordeal before. I wish FB would ban any post relating to politics! It’s going to be a loonnnggg year!

I need to unload the dishwasher and fold a load of towels. Enjoy your evening!

ceejay52 11-07-2019 06:56 PM

Jean
I'm not ready for that kind of weather.

I'm not sure what was going with me last night but I had the shivers and then would sweat big time. I stayed in bed till around noon today. I'm starting to shiver again so I turned the heat up to 70 at sissy's condo. It was on 68.
Not much else is going on.

Jean 11-09-2019 05:36 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun has been shining most of the day, no wind blowing, and the temperature hit 55 degrees this afternoon. A beautiful fall day for sure! Ian's team lost last night so we are done for the season. It wasn't too cold but there was a pretty good wind blowing and it kept changing direction. I got cold towards the end so was glad when it was over. There is a major breakdown on the combine so Bob was home shortly after lunch. To add insult to injury, it probably won't be fixed for a couple days and the farmer has to drive to Arkansas for his sister's funeral on Saturday.

I am playing bells in church tomorrow and will be relieved when it is over. I have a couple of tricky parts where I have to switch bells for accidentals using opposite hands crossing over, if that makes any sense. My bells are larger and will clunk if I put them down too fast. I brought my music home and have been "practicing” with plastic pop bottles. If I screw up it won’t be the first time nor the last, most likely.

Ceejay, I hope you are feeling better and the shivers have left! Both of us will turn the furnace up in the early evening if we feel cold. Our thermostat is usually set at 70 if the sun is shining and I’m working around the house during the day. As our winter gets colder sometimes I set it a little higher, especially if the wind is blowing.

”Gma,” what are you up to today?

Hope you both are enjoying a nice weekend!

gma22 11-10-2019 01:32 PM

Good afternoon! It is in the 40’s here today, but I have been cold all morning. We keep the furnace at 66 otherwise the upstairs gets too hot to sleep, but then the downstairs is drafty so I turn on my little space heater. The bad thing about that is it dries my skin out so badly.

I have had a fungal toenail on my left foot that I have been trying to heal to no avail. I just bought a new product that people swear by so we shall see. I read several articles that say the prescription oral med is for one specific type of fungus and it your nails don’t have that type it won’t work. It also said the side effects ie vomiting, etc can be kind of brutal. So, I stick with what I can get otc. I may go back to Vicks, which worked on a toe on my other foot and it never came back.

Jack has tomorrow off so is enjoying his 3 day weekend. We haven’t done anything, but he watched college football all day yesterday. I don’t gripe about it though. I can either watch it upstairs or on my ipad, knit or read. My sister always hates it so much she goes shopping. Not sure if she is trying to pay him back or just can’t stand it.

Jean: Boy you dipped into low temps quickly this year. My FB friend that lives in ND, went to Minneapolis to visit her sister and said they can’t leave because the roads are too icy and snowy. The temps are unusually brisk here for this time of year. We are supposed to get snow tomorrow evening. Including my color, I think it’s about 2 hours at the salon for me. She has got to cut my hair so it is shampoo, product and go. It really hurts to raise my arms and blow-dry any more.

CeeJay: How far apart do you and your sister live? Branson always reminded me of a town plunked right in the middle of forest all around it. It always seemed so isolated from everything. I imagine it’s gonna be cold at your house for awhile too.

Everyone have a good afternoon.

Jean 11-10-2019 05:42 PM

Good Afternoon! It's been a windy, cold, gloomy day in my corner of the world. It looks like it could snow any minute. Yesterday, late afternoon, I was in my comfy chair waiting for the 5:00 news to come on. Bob was taking a shower and we were going to WM for orphan food, then order a pizza. All of a sudden I remembered it was our night to go to a musical program in a little nearby town. I have no idea what made me think of it but we have season tickets and they aren't cheap so never skip a show. Man we did fly to change clothes in my case and for Bob to get dressed. It was another good program with a very talented sister and two brothers. They sang and had a background scenic video set up which was applicable to each era of music they performed. Today was church and I managed to not majorly screw up the bell music. I missed a couple notes and left them out on purpose but evidently the director didn't notice. So glad that one piece is done! We went to a little nearby church for their Harvest Dinner; Thanksgiving with all the trimmings. I could have just eaten salads and been happy. For a small church they feed a lot of people from the surrounding area. The bad news is someone took my coat! I'm hoping they will return it as even though it is "old" it is my dressier coat for good.

“Gma,” I can handle cold better than the wind but sunshine sure helps! I am sitting in the living room watching the flag across the street blow. I’m pretty sure the guy isn’t a veteran. He buys cheap flags that shred, then lets the strings blow. He doesn’t have a light on it and that bugs me too. I have been cold all afternoon. Bob made coffee and I have my fuzzy blanket on my lap. Ernie would like to sit on it but he’s so heavy he makes my legs go to sleep. I have heard that Vicks works on toe nail fungus. Knock on wood I’ve never had that. Good luck!

I need to pick up some clutter and get my thoughts in order for next week so I don't miss when and I where I need to be! Enjoy your evening!

ceejay52 11-11-2019 03:47 PM

This is a wintry day in the Ozarks. It started out with sleet, then freezing rain changing over to little bity flakes of snow but when I looked out while ago the flakes were huge. The temperature is dropping by the minute and the wind is brutal.

My wrist is a lot better. I should be wearing my brace but keep forgetting to put it on.

My nephew confessed that he did go off the wagon last week. So I'm helping him this time to try to be more diligent to his needs especially if I see him struggling. We can go for a walk or talk about things like we did before.

I have a therapy appointment in the morning but I really do not want to get out in the cold weather. In my opinion I don't think it will help since the doctor told me that the joint was almost closed. Think the only way to open the joint up is surgery and I'm not for that either.

GMA
I'm going to try the VIcks on my toe nail. The doctor doesn't like to give the medication because it can damage the liver.
I live about an hour from Branson and or Ash Grove. It depends on the traffic.

More sleet hitting the windows.

ceejay52 11-12-2019 01:40 PM

:Brrr: It is cold this morning. When I got up it was 11 degrees with a windchill of -2. This is January weather.
We had snow, sleet/freezing rain yesterday. The accumulation wasn't too bad but made for bad driving conditions last night and early this morning.
My heater has not shut off once since yesterday. I've brought out a space heater hoping that would help.

Nephew got up and went to work. He was actually excited about going in this morning. He didn't go into to work last week. He said he was struggling. Guess it got the better of him and he fell off the wagon. He admitted it to me. His higher up boss called him Sunday night to check on him which I thought was good. He/she told him he had 108 days to call in like this. They didn't have the out patient clinic that he goes to 3 night per week and I told him he didn't need to be on the road any way.

I've been on the phone with my insurance company. I had enrolled in a supplemental insurance plan but after I talked to the agent again I decided to take a different Medicare advantage plan. I had to cancel the supplemental plan. I like the HMO plan.

Think I'm going to clean in the office today and do some laundry.

Ladies have a good rest of the day.

Jean 11-12-2019 09:33 PM

Good Evening! It's been a very cold, windy day in my neighborhood. The sun did shine so it looked warmer than it was. The "it feels like" never got above zero . . . COLD! I even opted against running a couple errands after church counting this morning. Today has been Monday all day to me. Not much going on here. I have card club next Monday night and need to do some serious cleaning, then decide on food which will most likely end up being the usual things I fix. The combine was fixed late this afternoon, so with a borrowed semi the guys were hoping for two trips to the elevator. Not sure what shape the corn is in with snow on it. Maybe the sun melted it. Ha ha, nothing else melted that's for sure.

Ceejay, I would be glad to trade you temperatures, -4 feeling like -18 at 6 am. ;) I was surprised at yours because I always think of you as “down” south. It’s nice you spend time with and talk to your nephew. Sometimes a good listener is all that is needed to help. I hope your insurance is all set the way you want it. It’s hard to know. I got two phone calls on my cell phone today. Both were local numbers and about medical supplements. I didn’t answer so they both left messages. :(

Bob just got home so will warm up leftovers for him. Hope you enjoy a nice evening, and a wonderful Wednesday tomorrow!

Jean 11-13-2019 01:05 PM

Good Morning! The sun is trying to shine, at least it is getting brighter out. It is warmer by 20+ degrees but windy so doesn't feel very warm. It has been spitting snow off and on with the weatherman predicting a wintery mix this afternoon. I was supposed to have lunch bunch today but it was a bust :( with two not feeling well, one forgot and didn't think she could get ready in time, and the fourth one didn't want to chance driving on the roads if they get icey. Far as I know bell practice is still a go for later. Bob is hauling corn again today so I hope they get done. This harvest has seemed extra long with the weather and multiple machinery break downs. I need to get back to my cleaning project. Enjoy the rest of your day!

gma22 11-14-2019 08:34 AM

Good morning. Nippy, nippy here at 28 degrees but no windchill. I am going out this morning and get my nails done then straight back home. I am sniffling and sneezing, etc and terrible sinus headaches from having to turn on the heat. I woke up two or three times last night from my sinuses “popping.” Miserable but my nails are grown out too far to not go today. I got out stuff to make meatloaf, scalloped potatoes and baked beans for dinner. We haven’t had that in quite awhile and Jack likes it.

Blanket is nearly finished and I’m gonna knit up a hat to go with it I think then get it all done and shipped to her. I then have to get that sweater finished. I have yarn for a mitered afghan. I have never done mitered before so it will be fun to try.

I missed a call from Jackson so I texted him back. I told him to have fun with his Halloween money, to work hard in school and have a nice Thanksgiving with his parents and that we loved him bunches. He texted me yesterday, “I love you too.” Hard to believe he’s already in 7th grade and Thomas will be 20 in June! Where does the time go?

CeeJay: It’s good your nephew is to the point in his learning that he fesses up, but if he could just get to the place that when the urge hits he calls his sponsor or at the very least tells you so you can distract him he’ll be over another hump in recovery.I am hoping this cold blast isn’t what it’s going to be like all winter. The one thing it does here though is lessens crime. They don’t like shooting each other in the cold.

Jean: By the time Thanksgiving gets here you’ll be turkeyed out. I know you only do bells a part of the year, so when are you done or did you just get started? You going to Hawaii in February? I have to tell ya, after this last week going on a cruise sounds fabulous. We are definitely not used to this kind of cold here.

Well I better get hopping. I need to leave around 9. Have a good one.

ceejay52 11-14-2019 11:17 AM

Morning
My nephew has worked 2 days this week and he's worn my nerves down to a breaking point. I've text my sis stating that I'm coming up there this afternoon. I can't handle this 24/7 stuff.

We had a good choir practice last night and after a fellowship meal. I probably ate to much but that's okay too.

Going to post this and get some things done so I can go to Branson this afternoon.

ceejay52 11-15-2019 11:01 AM

Morning
Things hit the fan yesterday with nephew. He wasn't going to work, wasn't going to out patient therapy nor to AA meetings, and him staying home was getting next to me. He claimed to be sick on Tuesday but he was drunk and yesterday I told him I was going to go to Branson for a couple of days. He asked if I were afraid I would get sick I said no, it's from your actions. He knew at that point I knew he was drunk. Dah how long did he think he could hide it from me. He made up his mind yesterday afternoon to go back to rehab. He called them and they readmitted him and even bought his plane ticket down there. I took him to the airport, and the were to pick him up.

Jean 11-16-2019 02:47 PM

Happy Saturday! The sun is shining and the wind is blowing as usual. Bob is bagging leaves with the mower and I have been doing laundry, picking up the clutter, and making a grocery list. I realized I had somehow missed a church birthday card so got that written and in the mailbox. It probably won’t get picked up in time to be processed today but I didn’t want to take time to go to the post office. Some woman hit the gas pedal instead of the brake and plowed through the glass doors of the po last week. There is a curb plus it’s an incline so she was going too fast to begin with. Luckily no one was in the lobby when it happened. It was closed for a couple days and anyone using a P.O. Box had to go in the back door on the alley and with an escort to get their mail. I did get my coat back that was taken at the harvest dinner last Sunday. :cheer:

“Gma,” what color are your nails this time? I have noticed more and more gals are putting sparkly polish on their ring fingers only. We used to play bells September through May but the room we practice in was so hot in August we opted to start in October. As our kids grew and we were involved in proms and graduations we opted out of May also and never started again since now we all (or most) have grandchildren. I hated the one song we played last time and the ones we practiced for December are worse. I’m seriously thinking this will be my last year, 33+/- years is long enough. Yes, we are going back to Maui in February. Originally a third person was going to tag along with the other couple so we opted for our own car. She has backed out and the other couple wants to share our car now. I was looking forward to doing some things on our own so not sure how it will work. We have shared a car in the past so always went everywhere together. This gal is a decision maker while her husband lets her wear the pants so to speak. Sometimes she gets to be too much. She is Jason’s mil so I don’t say anything around Amanda. There is a love/hate relationship between those two, on Amanda’s side.

Ceejay, when your church has a fellowship meal, does everyone contribute or does a committee make it for you? It’s good your nephew realized he needed to go back to rehab. I wish him good luck and hope he is strong enough to make it work this time. Enjoy the peace and quiet in your house! :D

I need to get back to cleaning for card club Monday night! Have a nice day and enjoy!

gma22 11-18-2019 06:54 AM

Good morning! We are sitting around in the quiet for once this morning. Jack leaves for work in about half an hour. Nice no thumping music, revving car engines, people screaming and hollering, no sirens, no semi brakes. It doesn’t seem to be too cold this morning either.

Today is our 47th wedding anniversary so Jack’s taking me out to Red Lobster. We haven’t been there in a long time. We didn’t buy gifts, just cards. All our money is going to our vacation next year.

Guess I’ll get upstairs and clean bathrooms today. They really need it. My shoulder and hands are really aching this morning but it needs to be done and won’t take long.

CeeJay: Bummer! Hope he can learn somethings that stick so he can keep the dragon off his back. He really needs to learn to use his resources like his sponsor to help him out. Rehab can only help those who want to kick the problem. It’s sure not easy to do so and takes a lot of fortitude. I know this is hard on too. How’s your bil coming along?

Jean: I got tickled at you bell ringers dumping months and such. Just struck me as funny for some reason. You’re in a ticklish spot with the other couple being “family” in a way. We went to Las Vegas several years ago and family members came for the weekend. The guy just took over our vacation. We’d go into a casino and he’d walk off expecting us to follow him. He’d leave his wife too. He’d pick the restaurants, etc too. We had shows already booked and paid for but he’d not want to go because he didn’t choose them. I was furious by the time we went home. This is the first time we’ve gone in April on a cruise. I am finding hotels much more expensive. It irks me. One of the hotels we always stay at the first day cost $100 more. I said no way and talked Jack into driving a different route. It saves us about an hour a day and the hotels are just as nice but cheaper than $250 a night for sure! We did get a spike at one hotel coming home, but there is a reason. It is Gainesville FL. The University of Fl is there and the Sunday the ship pulls back in is graduation weekend. We won’t be there until Monday night, but the prices were raised for that whole time. Jack looked on their website and they have 3 graduation ceremonies on that day, one in the evening so I imagine parents will stay over until Monday.

Well need to tell Jack goodbye so he can go to work. Have a good day.

ceejay52 11-18-2019 10:59 PM

Hi

Jean
When we have fellowship suppers etc at church the "Hostess" for that month will decide the meat and or theme. We bring desserts and sides.
-------
It has been quiet at the house without the nephew but I'm loving it. Still cleaning up nephews mess. He knows that he can't come back to my house to live. Just to get his clothes and vehicle and visit.
We went to visit with nephews wife and kiddos. Their baby girl is 2 months old and is precious. The boys were outside playing with the neighbor children.
BIL went in this morning for chemo but he didn't get it. They are starting him on a different one next week for the next 3 Mondays.
His surgeon called and wants to talk to him Wednesday. Not sure what this is about though.
I'M hoping it's good news. We came to Branson for the night as sis brought his things up here. We will go back tomorrow. I will take him back to Ash Grove. SIS, BIL and I went to dinner tonight. He and I were fish hungry. Branson is in the beginning stage of decorating for Christmas.

GMA
Happy anniversary. Hope Red Lobster was good.

Alexa123 11-19-2019 05:56 AM

The whole summer i was waiting for winter and now that it's upon us I HATE IT. why can't it remein just moderately cold and not hot outside. I feel the chills even in my bones

ceejay52 11-19-2019 04:20 PM

It is a nice day today. I should be outside doing some things. Just lazy.
Sis called and said that nephew is trying to get back home. His insurance is not going to pay. She told me do not give him money or buy him a plane ticket.
Not much else is going on today. Need to exercise so I think I'm going to ride my stationary bike. better than nothing.
Have a good afternoon.

Alexa
Welcome. Where do you live?

gma22 11-20-2019 04:14 PM

Not bad here today. It is 70 right now. We are going to get off and on rain it looks like.

I finally finished the baby blanket and hat. I have to say I’m glad. I was bored with it. I now can go back and get my bff's white sweater done. It’s a tricky one because it’s all in one piece and it has shell scallops at the bottom and sleeves. I hope I don’t screw it up. So far so good.

We never went out for our anniversary. I wasn’t feeling well. We’ll go out over the weekend.

CeeJay: Where is your nephew going to go when he gets out, back home? I sure feel for your bil. He has been put through the wringer with tests and chemo and such. I hope you all don’t receive bad news today and that it is great news. I went and bought a Thanksgiving dinner from Cracker Barrel this year. It says it feeds 6 so they’ll be some leftovers. My husband loves dressing sandwiches. Ya, I know ick bread on bread, but he loves them. Are you going to your sister’s for Thanksgiving?

Alexa: Welcome tell us about yourself. We are just three old gals now, but we enjoy each other’s company. I live in Memphis, my husband is retired Navy but still works full time for the City of Memphis. We have two kids, a son and a daughter and two grandsons, 12 and 19. I am a stay at home and pretty much knit all the time. We are big cruisers so we travel doing that year to year.

Everyone have a good Wednesday!!

Jean 11-20-2019 04:26 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun has been in and out most of the day, a 20+ mph wind is blowing left over leaves around, and it is a "warm" 57 degrees. Rain is predicted during the night mixed with snow tomorrow. :dizzy: The crazy weather continues. I think I over cleaned (?? ha ha) for card club. I finally gave up and hit the places that were pretty visible and called it good, but I have been tired ever since! Next card club is in March so will start getting ready sooner than I did this time. Not much is going on in my corner of the world except my "mom" is in the hospital. Her daughter sent me a text saying they were going to drain fluid. I'm not sure why or from where so waiting to hear. She is 93 and spends her days sitting in her recliner with no interest in tv, reading, or anything else. I can't imagine how long her days must be.

“Gma,” a belated Happy Anniversary to you and Jack! :cheer: The years do have a way of flying by for sure. The last time we were in Maui there was an Elvis impersonator there. I wanted to go see the show and Bob was willing to go but the other couple voted for something else on the same night. Afterwards we heard from several people he was very good. I told Bob if he is still there (most likely not) I am going to the show no matter what! I wasn’t much of a fan as a kid but do like his singing now.

Alexa, welcome to our very small group! We offer lots of moral support! :D I am not a big winter fan but somehow we missed out on spring and fall weather this year. We’ve had some of each mixed in with winter and summer this year.

Ceejay, I hope your bil gets good news from the doctor today. I have heard that Branson really decorates for Christmas. We have bus tours from around our area but it seems like I always have too many things on my schedule so never go. I hope there is some way your nephew can stay in rehab. It sounds like it would qualify for a hardship case with what is going on with his wife, selling the house, moving, etc. I wish him good luck.

I need to unload the dishwasher, then fold a load of towels. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

ceejay52 11-21-2019 10:54 AM

Bil did not get a good report from his surgeon. The tumor has not decreased in size. But it hasn't spread. Plus the spots on his liver are not looking good.
Nephew is coming back this afternoon. His mom bought him a bus ticket, and he will be staying with her in Branson until he can make other living arrangements.
I mulched the leaves yesterday as they were getting thick but after the rain today I'll have to do them again next week. I use the riding mower so it's not to bad. Tree is almost bare.
It's time for me to get started for the day. Have my "just for today" list written down.
My nephew made it home about 3.20 Thursday afternoon. He was tired. His bus trip ended up being 26 hours long.

gma22 11-21-2019 08:41 PM

Good evening. It was rainy today. I did a few things around the house, folded a load of laundry and that was about it. I have a hair appt tomorrow to get this mop cut and colored. It has run amok.

Unless I feel unwell we’re going out for our anniversary dinner. It is supposed to rain again, but hopefully it will have stopped by the time we go out. I hate wearing raincoats and dragging umbrellas and such.

Jack seems pretty tired tonight again. I think working full time is beginning to catch up with him. He has gained weight which doesn’t help either. He’s going to have to have the other hand worked on next year. It is starting to give him a lot of trouble. The good thing is the cortisone shot he got for the “trigger” finger is still working.

CeeJay: I am so sorry you all didn’t get better news. Hopefully the new stuff will work for him better. I hope your nephew can get his head on straight and get himself straightened around. He has children he needs to be responsible for even if they don’t stay together.

Jean: The ship is now out of their refurb so it has on the new things on it. I am looking forward to going to Miami as I have never been. We’ll get there Thursday and ship leaves on Sunday. My friend flies in on Friday. We saw an Elvis impersonator who was a real young guy in Branson a few years ago. He was really good. He gave me his scarf and a teddy bear. I had a lady get irked he gave me two things. It was ridiculous but she was mad.

Everyone have a goodcevening.

Jean 11-22-2019 04:17 PM

Good Afternoon! We have sunshine! It's a chilly 32 degrees but seems warmer than that because the wind isn't blowing. I've done some laundry and now trying to sort through a gift shop snafu. The bank statement says the gift shop charged $3000+ for merchandise, my invoices don't come close to that figure, and the list from the hospital accountant doesn't match either figure. I called my "boss" and she will work on it Monday with the accountants. There are two new accountants and the third "supervisor" in charge who is clueless. I've asked her questions before, when she is helping, and I might as well ask Ernie!

Ceejay, I am sorry about your bil’s latest report. It’s good the tumor isn’t growing but the liver spots are not good news. I hope your nephew did some soul searching on his bus ride home. That is a long ride! I’m glad he will be staying with his mom instead of you. We have more leaves down after the rain and wind on Wednesday; Bob said he will get the mower out again and bag them for the landfill. I like your “just for today list” idea!

“Gma,” Bob has gotten into the habit of an after lunch nap. Usually it’s 15 or 20 minutes then he’s ready to go again. His bad habit is watching a late night movie, falling asleep, then coming to bed. My trigger thumb is working 100% since my cortisone shot. I hope Jack’s continues likewise. Where do you usually sail from? I am :o to say I don’t remember where we left from since our travel companion made all the arrangements and we just paid our bill.

Hope you are enjoying a nice day and looking forward to the weekend!

ceejay52 11-22-2019 07:03 PM

Evening
I've gotten a lot done today. Cleaned out the upper cabinets in the kitchen and will clean out a couple of drawers tomorrow. Even though I don't get everything done on my just for today list I am getting some things accomplished.
I ate a whole small pizza yesterday and did not enjoy it one bit. I didn't realize how much grease sits on the top of those things. I paid for it last night and this morning. plus I gained 2 pounds from it. I hope I've learned my lesson. sigh.
Not much else is going on.

Jean
Hope the error can be found.
GMA
I hope the best for my nephew. He needs to take one day at a time. and work on his steps, which he is meeting with his AA counselor tonight and then going to an AA meeting. I am a bit concerned that he will be driving those hills in the bad weather and I'm going to suggest he stay with me those days and or nights or go to Ash Grove.

gma22 11-23-2019 09:05 AM

Good morning. Overcast and chilly this morning. Very gloomy outside. Got my hair cut and colored and it feels so much better. I told her to pixie cut it and showed her a picture. She really liked it so now I have a cut I can handle better.

I’m going to be doing some housecleaning today and the tv will be on all day with college football. The neighbors woke me up around three pounding on walls and moving furniture or something. So I am kind of pooped this morning.

We had a nice dinner last night even though it was raining heavy the whole evening. I think tomorrow afternoon we’re going to see “The Battle of Midway.”

Jean: We started having dinner later and having Jack come home and take a nap or at least just relax for an hour or so. Sounds like somebody boobooed with the gift shop stuff. For the big ships they sail out of Port Canaveral, Miami, or Fort Lauderdale. They also sail out of Bayonne, NJ. I think, if I remember right, you sailed out of Fort Lauderdale. They cut down any trees that were on our decks, but I still have oak leaves on the deck from somewhere.

CeeJay: Lawn wise it’s definitely the worst time of year because of leaves. The owner of my salon owns two, one in a warehouse and the other in an old style home. The gal took me to the shampoo room and I was smelling pizza. They were cooking pizza in the kitchen for the employees. Man, it smelled good. If you have a pizza craving, get english muffins, jarred pizza sauce, mozzarella, and veggies and make single pizzas. Your nephew can get the dragon off his back if he’d just lean on his sponsor and go to meetings. Wishing good luck for him.

Everybody have a good weekend!

Good Morning! The sun is shining again today! :cheer: I've washed sheets, have another load washing, and written gift shop checks this morning. Bob worked on his tractor yesterday while his farmer friend cleaned corn out of the grain cart. It was stuck to the sides from being wet when put in the cart. He just dumped the corn on the ground so Bob went back with buckets and scooped it up. We will have happy squirrels and blue jays! I need to write a couple sympathy cards as well as church birthday cards.

Ceejay, you were a busy gal yesterday! I need to go through my kitchen cupboards, clean them, and get rid of things I no longer use. I have several of the silver (doesn’t tarnish kind) serving trays and bowls given to us as wedding gifts. They need to go! Once in awhile we will order a pepperoni pizza and I always mop the grease off the top. Obviously the “new” hospital accountant needs to look for the mistake and put the money back in the gift shop account. Unfortunately it probably won’t be until the next cycle and we will lose what little interest we earn. :( I hope your nephew has recovery success this time! :crossed: He has the tools to use.

”Gma,” I heard the Midway movie is a good one. It hasn’t been here yet but would like to see it. Did you have shrimp last night? We had left over card club munchies. I think we did leave from Fort Lauderdale; I know it was a smaller ship to go through the canal. It doesn’t seem so cold with the sun shining but I am ready for warm! Several couples from church head to Arizona and have tried to talk us into coming there for a month or so. Several have bought in retirement areas with all kinds of activities. Ernie isn’t a good rider and I can’t see paying a sitter for him so not happening any time soon. We weren’t that impressed with Arizona when we visited Bob’s parents years ago but have been assured there are nicer areas than where we were.

I need to get my cards written and out in the mail box. Hope you all have a nice day and enjoy it!

Good Afternoon! We have had another sunny day but the weather is supposed to change tomorrow with 5-7" of snow tomorrow night and into Wednesday. Rain and snow on Thursday, then more snow Friday and Saturday. It will be interesting to see what really happens. I am making a Snickers salad for Thursday and debated about the grocery store stop this morning. I needed to practice my bell piece so did that after we finished church counting. Then I made the gift shop deposit and dropped checks off at the hospital. I really just needed apples and Cool Whip so went to the store right after lunch. It was crazy busy to say the least. I knew the checker and said that people acted like they were never going to eat again, thinking it was Thanksgiving shopping. She said it was the weather forecast that brought people out, and it was just as crazy this morning. If the weather cancels Thursday travel we will eat hamburger and Snickers salad! :D

I need to put some laundry away and think about something for supper. We have pizza I bought from a day care fund raiser, so that might be it. Enjoy your evening!

Good Evening! We have serious snow fall going on with an east wind blowing off the lake. At least one kitten is holed up in their little house, maybe two. The black kitten is hard to see except for his eyes when he is at the door peeking out. I've been doing house chores trying to ignore the weather that started about 2 this afternoon. Lots of schools are already closed for tomorrow and area colleges sent students home yesterday in anticipation of the bad weather moving in. I guess winter has officially begun ready or not. :(

I need to clear off the counter clutter and write a church birthday card. Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Good morning! From around 2 pm yesterday all through the night we had major storms. It rained so hard the windows rattled. Somehow we never lost power though. This morning it is cooler again and the sun is shining and the skies are clear. I know a lot of the country is expecting bad weather for Thanksgiving. We’re just going to be cloudy tomorrow.

We have to go pick up our Thanksgiving dinner at 3 pm. I got an email saying not to come early just be on time. Everything will be cooked and refrigerated then tomorrow we just heat it up. We’ve gone to Cracker Barrel on Thanksgiving before with Tom and Kelly so we know the food is good. We get sliced turkey, ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, green beans, mac n cheese and rolls. We ordered a pumpkin and pecan pie. It serves 6 but thats ok we’ll have some leftovers that way. You always want a bit of leftover. :)

Jack took today off so he has a 5 day little vacation. I’m sure he’ll enjoy it.

Jean: Oh boy hope you can get out to go for Thanksgiving. My sister loves living in AZ. I think if we’d come into money, at this point we’d move out there. I did have shrimp for our dinner. It was yummy. My bff doesn’t eat much seafood so we are going to take her to Bubba Gumps after she gets off the plane. I guess she can get a hamburger if she doesn’t want to try anything. I’m not real adventurous, but I’ll eat crab, shrimp, lobster, and fish. Jack likes scallops.

Well everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow.

Jean 11-27-2019 10:23 AM

Good Morning! It has quit snowing and Bob estimated 5-6". Thank goodness we have a good snow blower because this was a heavy wet snow and where the plow piles the end of the driveway is even worse. People aren't good about removing leaves along the curbs so have leaves along with snow. The wind is blowing and supposedly it feels like 15 degrees outside. I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere today! Bob had a dentist appointment at 8 and the dentist called to tell him not to come until she could get to the office. He went a half hour later then was going to his office.

“Gma,” your dinner sounds delicious! :T I am always surprised when macaroni and cheese is included in the menu. I’ve never known anyone up here who does that. It’s nice that Jack has a longer than usual weekend. Will he lose vacation days if he doesn’t use them? Beth’s company lets them take half days, or in her case, hours. That works nicely for the kid’s doctor appointments. My stepmom is still in the hospital so will visit her there tomorrow if she is still there. It will be quick because she doesn’t visit much any more. The four lane highway on the way to Sioux City was closed during the night because they pulled the plows off. There are some pretty good hills and I wondered how they could see where to plow when they could go again. Bob said there was a tv program about how they use GPS in the mountains. I think I would stay home! I hope the weather cooperates for your friend to get to Florida and you all can sail with no problems.

Ceejay, are you ready for Thanksgiving?

I need to find my Christmas wreath and candle for the coffee table, dust, and vacuum. Hope you are enjoying a wonderful Wednesday! :turkey:

Morning
Jean
My sis is having Thanksgiving at her house on Saturday this year. I usually help her that day but don't have to bring anything.

gma
Don't blame you for doing the Cracker Barrel Thanksgiving meal. My niece, who lives in Georgia, is doing that this year also. I've tried to talk sis in to doing this but she likes to cook.

Nephew has been staying with me since Monday. I'm going to let him go back to moms after the holidays. Sis says I spoil him and I probably do. And he needs continuity in his life and sis can do that easier than myself. And he needs to learn that life has certain consequences when you fail.
His wife is getting ready to close on the house. They moved some things in the garage last night. Nephew thinks he'll go back home after this. But I don't think he's ready to do that yet, nor does his wife. She needs him for sure to help with the kiddo's etc. and pay the bills. But to cause disruption in her and the children's life no.
Went to the gym yesterday and it felt good but I was really tired from my work out.
Still cleaning and reorganizing in the kitchen. Almost done there.
We had storms yesterday and last night that seemed to break apart before they got here. We did get a bit of rain and wind when the cold front came through last night. Today we have sunshine and temps in the high 30's. with very cold wind. My bones are cold this morning.
Bil had his new chemo treatment on Monday and he's tolerating it better. I was shocked when he called me at 11 and told me he would be through by noon. Sis was still at home due to a stomach bug and thankfully he nor I caught it. She went back to work yesterday.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving

Jean 11-29-2019 05:24 PM

Good Afternoon! It's another cloudy and windy day in my neighborhood. About an hour ago it started to rain, and now the deck looks like it is getting "crunchy." I'm glad it is happening today and not yesterday when we were driving home. We came home with leftovers so had thanksgiving dinner again today. I've done some laundry and now need to unload the dishwasher. Bob's office is closed today so it has been football on tv all afternoon. Iowa has been ahead but now see that the score is tied, 24-24, with Nebraska. Since I am not a football fan I don't sit and watch the game with much interest.

Ceejay, :congrat: on going to the gym again! I’m glad your bil tolerated his new treatment better. I feel for your sister having the stomach bug. That seems to be going around here too. When someone says flu I always think of stomach rather than respiratory. Either one is bad! I cleaned out a kitchen drawer and got rid of four spatulas I never use and were taking up space. Two were hand me downs from my mom many, many years ago. :o Enjoy your Thanksgiving with your family tomorrow.

The dishwasher is done so I need to unload it. There was just a Taco Bell ad on tv and it looked so good! Guess my lunch is running low. Enjoy the rest of a fabulous Friday!

gma22 11-30-2019 09:44 AM

Good morning all. Going to be rainy today but supposed to be near 70! Jack is out getting his hair cut and running a couple errands and I just heard what sounded like gun shots. One sound then 3-4 more. Haven’t heard sirens though so must be something else. Sure is weird growing up in a tiny town where worst crime is somebody getting drunk, to living in this city where crime and shooting is an everyday occurrence.

We had a very nice meal. The food was really good. Yesterday, I took mac n cheese and put it in a bowl and cut up some ham into it and nuked it. It was great! I already ordered Christmas dinner from Honeybaked Ham. I ordered a small ham, augratin potatoes, cinnamon apples and a red velvet cake. I’ll add some veg of my own to it, maybe shred some Brussel sprouts and cook them with bacon. I saw it once on food network. It’s like cole slaw shred. Really good.

CeeJay: Hope you had a nice holiday. I sure hope your nephew can get himself on a good path and your bil start improving. This stuff with your nephew has to be hard on him. Great job going to the gym.

Jean: Football all afternoon at our house too, U of Memphis and then Boise State, Jack’s two favorite teams so there was a lot of channel flipping. Free HBO weekend so I watched a movie here and there on my Ipad. Streaming is terrible though. Hope you had a nice holiday too. The city gives you time off in three ways, sick time, which you have to have dr excuse if out more than one day, pd vacation which varies depending on how many years you’ve worked there and yes it has to be used by Dec 31 of each year or you lose it, and bonus days. You can earn 4 a year, can carry over up to 4 each year into the following year, and you earn them by taking no sick time in 90 day increments. So, you get a bonus day for every quarter you don’t take sick time.

Have a nice weekend!

Evening ladies
My sis had their Thanksgiving meal this afternoon and I really enjoyed the company and the food. Sis is a great cook. I got my fix on holding the babies. Our 8 month old is really active. and our 2 month old is so cuddly. The grand kids were not as rowdy today either. Parents sent them outside because it was a gorgeous day. When they came back in they smelled of fresh air. I love that smell.

GMA
The cinnamon apples sound heavenly. I haven't had those is a long time. I think ordering the food a is a wise thing to do. Bil usually has a ballgame on but this year his grand daughter wanted to watch something so she won. I hope nephew can work on his problem too. He's really a neat person to be around when he is sober.

Jean
 Hope you are having a great week end also.
