Steel Magnolias #49

Good morning ladies. It is 72 right now and going to get up to 87 today. Jack turned 70 today and left at 5:30 this morning so he could buy 6 dozen assorted donuts to take to work for his birthday. I imagine all the workers loved that.

I have been working on the baby blanket, but my hands have been hurting lately so haven’t progressed as far as I’d like. I have a schedule to get it done and I’m a bit behind.

I ordered this cute sterling silver thin cuff bracelet for my bff. It is simple but it says, “You are the Ethel to my Lucy.” Well, it was supposed to say that. She got it and it was reversed. Ir was shipped from China so I figured I’d never get them to replace it, but they are so now we’ll both have one. Mine will be the one she currently has, “You are the Lucy to my Ethel.” Don’t know how long it will take to get is as this one took about a month.

CeeJay: Does your bil have a lot of vomiting and such or is it more weakness? I watched this cute video where this baby was sitting in the refrigerator with the door open and her dad is trying to get her out. I think he was a police officer because he kept telling her she was to, “exit the refrigerator.” She baby babble a bunch back to him like she was arguing with him. He finally said, “get out” and she stood up, walked to the edge of the fridge, looked around the corner, babbled something and climbed back in the fridge. It was hilarious. Mom will have her hands full once she gets crawling.

Jean: Technically you are locked in, but there is an attendant there that will let anyone out that needs to. We do the trivia things too. We did a geography one but it was where is this building or church or whatever and it was places I’d never heard of. We were on a team and one lady was a huge traveler and knew most of them. Sounds like you have turned the fall corner for sure. I hate that it now gets dark so early. I’m still using the AC!

Have a good day everyone.

Jean 10-10-2019 04:39 PM

Good Afternoon! It’s a gloomy, windy, misty, cold 46 degree day in my neighborhood. :brr: I was hungry for a casserole so made a quick trip to the store to pick up what I needed. I am the proud (???) owner of a new stove. I tried to bake brownies a few days ago and the oven temperature was up and down the whole time. I don’t know if it is because this oven is new or what, but it kept making little noises while it was baking. The temperature stayed the same so that was good. I think the hummingbirds have finally moved on. Yesterday at lunch bunch, another gal said she hadn’t seen any for a couple days. I got to meet our new next door neighbors yesterday. They are a retired farm couple moving to town. They will be leaving for Arizona, to spend the winter, the day after Thanksgiving. Their son lives up the street so guess we won’t have to housesit for them.

Ceejay, chemo is so strange. It’s nice of you to spend time with your bil. The gal who plays bells with us just finished six weeks of radiation and chemo at the same time. After a couple days, after the last treatment, she has no pain and feels good. She looks good, says she can eat nonstop, and has energy to burn. When she first started chemo a year ago, she got so sick she ended up in the hospital. Bad stuff! She goes back to Mayo at the end of the month for full body and organ scans to make a decision about possible, very risky surgery.

“Gma,” Happy Birthday to Jack! Did you bake him a cake? What a nice guy to take birthday donuts to work! You are lucky your friend got the bracelet from China. I’ve been getting a lot of shoe ads on FB; assume they are from China since they are brands I’ve never heard of. Either way I delete the ads as fast as they appear. Bob offered supper out after bell choir last night so it was almost 7 when we finished. Walking to the car we both commented at the same how dark it was. I wish they would pick one or the other and leave it year around. I think we change back the first weekend in November. Thank you for starting the new thread.

I have some dishes to wash and church cards to address so better get to it. I’d really rather take a nap! Hope you enjoy the rest of the day!

Happy birthday to Jack. Your friend is so lucky to have you. What a nice idea for the bracelet! Bil was sick a lot when he started chemo. But now it's just being in a fog. I can see Olive doing that in a couple of months.

Jean
My area has been in the 40's today with a brisk wind. I'm loving i the temps not the wind. Finally turned the heat on Wednesday when I was here briefly when BIL was in chemo.
We had thunderstorms all day yesterday. So I stayed in the house after I got back from Branson. Just barely made it home before they started.

-------------
Today I had some errands to run. I finally got my flu shot and then went to a neighboring town to the DMV to get my car tags. I'm going to try to put them on myself. Then I made a WM run. I also scouted out the recycle area that is closer to my house but my goodness it is way out in the boonies. But I will probably use it cause it is closer. I may check on a pick up bend for the house. I will mainly have paper and plastic.
I haven't felt 100% this week. I've had a couple of rounds of IBS and my intestines feel like they are on fire
A choir member approached me with a book that they are practicing for the Christmas program. I'm still undecided on whether to do this. I'll have to miss two Wednesday's out of the month because of bil and then my trip to Arkansas. But I suppose I will give it a try.

gma22 10-13-2019 01:03 PM

I don’t know where yesterday’s post went, but oh well. Definitely fall weather moved in. It’s party sunny today. Jack’s out to get his haircut. His haircut/cruise countdown is down to 5. He says it seems shorter that way.

Gonna fix ham and scalloped potatoes tonight I think. We haven’t had that in awhile. I bought this chili base stuff I want to try soon. I bought a jar of ham, chili, mushroom, and turkey base. I use their chicken and beef all the time instead of broth. They advertise it on tv all the time.

Well I hear the trash down the street is racing their cars again. They had their music thumping late last night again.

Jean: :bday2you: Hope you have a nice day. I have a friend that lives in Bismarck and got socked with an ice and snowstorm. Are you likely to get snow? I have a friend who lives in INDIANA and they took the family to DisneyWorld last week. Came home to weather under freezing. We are going to have weird stuff again this year I think. Nope no cake. Kind of tempting to have cake around here. We had Olive Garden last night and as I was doing an online order and noticed they had a new dessert for fall. Choc crumb crust, pumpkin cheesecake, brownie then chocolate topping. Weird combination.

CeeJay: Do you get whole tags every year? We just get our little stickers every year and can pay it online. Jack is supposed to put mine on today. The city recycles, but our condos are not city trash pickup so the company doesn’t recycle. A lot of stuff in Branson is out in the boonies. When we visited there once we found a bake shop out in the middle of no where and wondered how they did any business.

Well should get some lunch.

Jean 10-13-2019 06:19 PM

Good Afternoon! It's another breezy gloomy day in my neighborhood. Bells played well this morning except for one glitch. The airhead, inconsiderate drama queen (she is the theater professor at the local college) didn't show up! Her phone went to voice mail and the director's husband even went to her house. No text message, no answer at the door, nothing. She is always late to practice, usually by a half hour, and then gives us a blow by blow on the latest productions going on around the area. She drives me crazy! I don't have to stand by her which is good. The one piece had the melody with chimes (her's!) so the director played her part which left the rest of us hanging. The breakfast restaurant was super busy so we opted for an early lunch at another place. I've read the newspaper, done some laundry, and balanced the checkbook. Bob and Jason braved the football game Friday; 33 degrees, very windy and with snow flurries but a short winning game for 40-0. The sideline players did have stadium capes to wear! I felt sorry for the other team! Amanda got the live stream on the computer so we were toasty warm!

Ceejay, we have to have flu shots in order to work/volunteer at the hospital. They give them to us free and usually in October but just got my notice and this year they are in November. Rainy cooler days always make me feel cold. The furnace has been merrily humming away! If you would enjoy being a part of the Christmas program, I think you should do it! Hope your innards have settled down and you feel better.

”Gma,” scalloped potatoes and ham sounds so good! :T Our Sunday night supper is usually popcorn; that was from my family while Bob’s mom always made pizza. It was a hit with me when we were dating and I lived in the dorm. Thank you for the birthday wishes! I have a new stove, two new winter coats, a new pair of shoes, and a crystal cat sun catcher to hang in my window. Otherwise it has been a ho hum kind of day. It is supposed to be warming up and sunny for the next few days according to the weather lady. Farmers will be happy!

Bob has the weekend "off" since the farmer's grandson can drive the combine and the farmer could drive the semi to the elevator. One elevator is buying wet corn with no penalty so farmers line wagons and semis, up the night before, then leave and go home. Farmer friend got up at 4:30 to get there early then was fifth in line. He was not happy!

I need to check the dryer and fold towels if they are done. Enjoy the rest of your day and evening!

I can usually get my stickers through the mail but this year I had to get new license plates. I get them for 2 years at a time. Yum on the potatoes and ham. I was thinking about that the other day. I'm making spaghetti for tomorrow.
Jean
Not sure when the birthday was but happy birthday. After I discussed it with the bil and told him I couldn't put forth 100% into choir, he said that 40% was good enough. And on that note I'll try next Sunday to get there early enough for choir practice.
------------
Didn't think about playing piano this morning for opening but J wasn't there so it was me. I told MJ that I could play with one hand. My thumb is still not letting me use it for practicing. But we made it. Guess I could practice the bass notes with the left hand. Doc told me I could improvise.
Nephew is coming home tomorrow. Not really ready for this but I guess I will endure. I'm planning on spending some time with sis next week also. Not even sure who is picking him up from the airport.
I'm feeling better but still some minor issues.
I'm going to winterize the house tomorrow and cut the lawn for the last time I hope. We had a very heavy frost on Friday morning.

Jean 10-15-2019 03:20 PM

Good Afternoon! It's a 30 mph wind kind of day and it blew the morning sunshine somewhere else. :( I had to make the gift shop deposit this morning and drop checks off at the hospital. Bob offered to cook lunch so we ate at an excellent restaurant/bar place. The younger crowd hangs out there at night and the police make regular visits. I've washed and dried a load of farming clothes so that is my accomplishment since lunch. I should get out the vacuum and go after the fur bunnies. Maybe I'll read my book first for a few minutes.

Ceejay, we get our license plates for ten years (I think) but get a renewal sticker every year. Each year is a different color and some not-so-smart wise guys “decorate” around the edge of the plate. The instructions are how to take the old off and apply the new one in the lower left corner. Thank you for the birthday wishes. It was Sunday. Bob had singing practice yesterday and word has it that the “no show ringer” still hasn’t been seen nor heard from. My comment was I wondered if anyone had gone into the house; maybe something happened and they were dead. Then I would feel bad about my evil comments. Did your doctor call your thumb a trigger digit? The cortisone shot has mine back to 100% now. The frost took care of my flowers except my favorite geranium which Bob put in the garage. I’d like to bring it in the house but don’t know if it would get enough light.

I need to get busy; will vacuum first then read! Hope you are enjoying a nice day!

ceejay52 10-16-2019 11:57 AM

Morning
I picked up my nephew at the airport on Monday and he's with me for the time being. It's beginning to get on my nerves. But he goes back to work, same place, tomorrow so I will have the house to myself until he gets home then he goes to AA. This morning he went to an out patient therapy session. I'm going to retire to my bedroom after that so I will be okay this week. Just can't let it bother me. He is more calm than before so that's good. And they, he and his wife, have been talking so that's another big plus. She invited him for lunch the day he got back. She has had an offer on the house at full price. And my understanding is that they may go back together in a couple of weeks. I'm praying for that cause it sure has been rocky for them.
I've decided to join choir. A friend is picking me up for practice tonight.
I called and checked on my insurance as I had some questions about that but I'm keeping the same policy as I have. I was curious about the hospital coverage. One never knows and I want to be on top of things.
I want to take some things to the recycle center today, clean my car.
Have a good day.

Jean 10-19-2019 11:24 AM

Good Morning! We got up to rain but the sun is out now. Yesterday was terribly windy but sunny. We left early enough to go to the Homecoming parade and see both kids marching in the bands. The high school band is first and when they get to the end, football players pass off their instruments and run back to the football float which is almost at the end of the parade. For a small town the local and area businesses enter either a float, or a fancy pickup/car/truck and toss candy to the kids. Last year every grade, preK-12 either walked and cheered/sang, or teams road on floats. The town has grown so much that this year it was cut to 7-12 plus team floats. They had four businesses tailgating before the game; wonderful food choices for everyone. We managed to sit in front of the press box so wasn't in the direct wind, it wasn't real cold, and the best thing was they won 43-0. Ian has a couple plays good enough to have his name announced. The other team traveled 2 1/2 hours and I felt bad for them not to get a score. They had quite a few fans attend which surprised me. I have laundry going and need to put together a short program for P.E.O. on Monday. Covered bridges was a suggested topic but I am going to do Halloween. Bob sings at church tomorrow and we have card club tomorrow night. I subbed in two different card groups this past week and met some new gals I didn't know. It was fun but I didn't get much done at home.

Ceejay, I hope everything works out for your nephew both on his job and with his wife. It will take effort for both he and his wife to make their marriage work. Meanwhile, you hang in there! ;) I hope you enjoy being part of the choir. I wish I could sing!

I need to get busy and accomplish something this morning. Hope you all enjoy a nice day!

Jean 10-20-2019 01:36 PM

Good Afternoon! It was supposed to be raining by now but so far just cloudy. It's a little breezy but not cold. We've been to church and out for breakfast. Bob just left for the farm. I need to change clothes and work on my Halloween program for tomorrow.

I'm off to be productive! Enjoy your day!

ceejay52 10-20-2019 09:17 PM

Another beautiful Fall evening.
I went to church this morning. Choir practice first then Sunday school then Bil preached this morning. But he was tired afterwards. But we went out to eat and then went to visit with the boys and baby. We got to see baby Olive at church and lunch. My she is growing so fast. And is crawling. After lunch we went to visit with the boys and their baby sister. This baby is growing too. Nephew was at the house and had the baby. I think his wife is beginning to see that she needs some help. He spent the night Friday night and tonight he came home and packed an over night bag just in case he is to spend the night. I got a feeling he will spend the night. He's going to let her sleep tonight and he will take care of the boys and the baby.
Have a good rest of the evening.

ceejay52 10-21-2019 12:20 PM

We had a potent thunderstorm that came through around 1.20 a.m. this morning. A big clap of thunder shook the house and rattled the window in the bedroom. And the power went out. That was my first experience with the power being out since I've lived in Missouri. The wind blew hard and the rain was fierce. My neighbor has some limbs down from his Bradford pear tree but the only thing I've seen is that my Ash tree is now minus all it's leaves.
Today is bil's 9th chemo session. I'll pick him up later and take him to Branson.
I'm almost packed for my trip to Arkansas. I'm getting excited. While there I'm going to try and see my two living uncles.
Have a good day. I've got to put some clothes in the dryer.

gma22 10-22-2019 11:31 AM

Good morning to you. Very chilly here this morning. We’ve finally moved into fall temps I think. We had a heck of a storm yesterday morning. There is a mess to clean up and get power back to people. It blew stuff all over the place on our deck. I think they said the winds were 60 mph. Guess it’s time to get out jackets.

I broke down and bought some expensive no show socks. We’ll see if I like them or not. I wear socks in the house all the time. I have never been one to wear shoes in my homes, but my doctor encourages me wearing something on my feet. I do not have neuropathy, but it is a concern and supposedly it can cause loss of feeling in the foot. Anyway these socks supposedly are very comfortable.

CeeJay: Hopefully this rehab will stick for your nephew and he’ll straighten himself out. Who will do chemo duty while you’re gone? Have a great time in AR. Where does your friends and family live there? I have family that live in Van Buren, Russellville, Mulberry. My sister’s husband lived in Mulberry until he joined the Marines.

Jean: Don’t feel bad, my first thought was the same thing about the bell ringer. I sure hope they’re ok. How did your Halloween presentation go?

Everyone have a good day.

Jean 10-22-2019 05:49 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and the it is very windy again today. Leaves are falling like crazy without even turning colors. I was gone most of yesterday; counted, looked for $25 we were "off" but never found it and posted church money most of the morning, picked up the gift shop money, went to P.E.O. right after lunch, and then card club last night. I was more than ready for bed when I got home. This morning I went to get my nails filled, returned a book to the library, and counted the gift shop money visiting the bank after lunch. The washer is doing its job and I am ready for a break. Hope you are enjoying a nice day in your corner of the world!

Ceejay, I will think positive thoughts for your nephew and his family while you are away! I’m sure you are more than ready for your trip and I hope you have a wonderful time! :D It will be nice if you can visit your uncles. I’m sure they would enjoy seeing your too. Keep in touch while you are gone if you can.

”Gma,” we have had all the different kinds of weather in the last month; makes me wonder what our winter will be like. I was glad to see your post today! I’ve never heard of no show socks but hope they work for you. Ever since I broke my last toe I always wear shoes of some sort. The airhead bell ringer had the wrong date on her calendar and was out of town the weekend we played. She was the first one at practice last week and the first one out the door afterwards. She had written on the board,”To my fellow bell ringers, I am a ding dong!” I thought to myself, you got that right and then some! Everyone laughed at the meeting yesterday when I said I thought covered bridges would be boring, if you’d seen one you had seen them all and I was going to talk about Halloween. I didn’t know the history of the Jack-o-lantern and several others said they didn’t either. Funny part was that the holiday book I got from the library and Google pretty much had the same information.

I need to do a few dishes and put away my gift shop paperwork. Hope you both enjoy a nice evening!

ceejay52 10-23-2019 09:48 AM

gma
I love the no show socks. They are very comfortable. I do wear my shoes inside because of the wood floors. I have a fear of falling at my age.
Jean
I will try to keep in touch while on vacation.

I got a message from MRC about when I will back in the center. And told them that I would not be purchasing more time. I'm really not interested any more.
I joined a gym last year with my Silver Sneakers while I was in Branson. I was curious yesterday to see if my card still worked. It did. I needed to work off some excess energy.
My nephew's wife called me to see if I were home and told her I was in Branson and she told me that my nephew did not go to work yesterday. She went over to the house to talk to him. I told my sis when she got home from work and she called to check on him. He was struggling Monday night. Tuesday he went in to talk to his physciatrist and he put him on a new med to help him curb the cravings more. I really think he is trying.
The weather has been cooler since the big storm Monday morning. Found out through the news that the wind from the storm was from a tornado about a mile over from me, and the reason the power went off was from 4 broken steel utility poles. Tomorrow is not going to be a good driving day either. It will be raining, cold and windy. The high tomorrow is supposed to be 49.
Bil is really suffering this morning. He goes back to get his pump off this afternoon and the he wil start to feel a bit better.

ceejay52 10-25-2019 04:34 PM

I had a decent trip to Arkansas. It did rain but not to bad. My only dread was when those semi trucks passed me and threw gallons of water on my windshield. I drove out of the rain about half way so that was good. Had a bit of trouble finding where my bff's lives but I made it there finally. She has a really nice house. Jonesboro, AR has really grown in the three years I've been gone.
We went to eat fish last night and today for lunch we had pizza. I bought some things for myself to fix in the microwave because neither of us cooks. any more.
More later.

Jean 10-26-2019 11:04 AM

Good Morning! The sun is shining and it's going to be another nice fall day in my neighborhood. My day started early because Bob was meeting the truck mechanic at the elevator at 7. Last night when he was in line to unload the truck quit and he couldn't get it started. The elevator has a truck or tractor of some sort so hooked on and pulled him through then to the parking lot. As he and farmer friend are on the phone discussing what to do, "all the air went out of the truck." I'm not just sure what air but know it wasn't good. It's an old truck and it has been fix/repair several times during this harvest. Ian's team lost their game Thursday night, to the #2 team that they beat last year. The football dads, and Bob, came unglued at the terrible refs and lack of penalty calls in favor of the other team. Bob said the score board should have read Refs-4, Dell Rapids-18, Tea-21! Bob finally has a voice today. Undoubtedly they will play against each other in the playoffs; Ian's team was #1. On the way home the coaches told the team they were going to review the tape, make a copy of it along with their comments on the refs, and send it to the state officials. One coach called the ref on a missed unsportsmanlike move and the ref threatened to kick him out of the game! I don't know much about football but it wasn't a fun night. Being a little further away than usual, we didn't get home until 1am and I was dragging yesterday. Enough about football!
I got up with a headache today and feel like I am getting a sinus infection. I don't have time to be sick! I managed to drop the butter dish which shattered into a million pieces while my egg and toast were cooking. The egg ended up over done so tossed it in favor of another one. I wanted to get the glass cleaned up so Ernie wouldn't step in it. He thought the butter looked like a tasty snack but I managed to get to it before he did. I have laundry to do and need to pick up a few things at the grocery store later. I try to have sandwich makings on hand because I never know when Bob will be home at night. The elevators stay open later if farmers are trying to beat the weather.

Ceejay, here’s hoping your nephew’s new medication will work better for him. It’s good that his wife went to check on him. I hope you have nice weather and enjoy your visit with your friend in Arkansas! How far is it from where you live now? I’m not familiar with the southern states other than to know which state is where. :o Wishing you a safe trip back home again!

I need to get busy! Hope you enjoy a nice weekend!

ceejay52 10-26-2019 11:07 AM

Good morning from Arkansas. Not a lot going on. She has her habits I have min. She very seldom comes out of her room.
I'm texting my cousin today to see when would be a good time to go visit with my uncle. I would like to go on Monday.
Have a good day.

ceejay52 10-27-2019 12:39 AM

A fun night. Bff invited her niece to come and meet me. I loved her and her family. Tomorrow her step daughter is stopping by for a visit. At least I know her.
I contacted 2 cousins. He's going to ask his dad, my uncle, about eating lunch on Monday. And then I will go out to the nursing home for a visit with the other uncle.
Not sure what to do about church. Guess I can watch something on line.

Jean 10-27-2019 12:43 PM

Good Morning! It's a cloudy morning and colder in my neighborhood today. I am waiting for the washer to finish so I can do the next load. The truck remains in the elevator parking lot because the mechanic never showed up yesterday. Needless to say the guys were more than a little upset. So they opted to move machinery to another farm place 30 miles down the road, a two hour road trip. Bob was a happy camper because he got to use his own tractor and pull two wagons. The farmer's grandson drove a smaller tractor and pulled one wagon. They finished that field just as it was getting dark so went back this morning to move machinery home again. I think todays plan is to do local corn and fill the grain bins on the farm. We are to get rain Tuesday and Thursday, possibly with snow flurries in the mix. So frustrating for the farmers!

Ceejay, you mentioned fixing food in the microwave. Do you buy frozen dinners or what do you like? I get in a rut, especially if Bob is gone during lunchtime. This time of year I never know when he will be home at night. It’s nice you are getting together with some other people. I hope the visits with your uncles work out.

I think I will work on a Good Will box and get rid of my squeaky shoes I can't seem to fix. Hope you enjoy a nice day!

ceejay52 10-28-2019 10:36 AM

Jean
I like the Healthy Choice dinners and entree's. and some of Mrs Calendar's. I also get the Atkins meals but I don't feel like there is enough food to make a portion in those.

----------------------------
I'm supposed to be meeting my cousin and uncle for lunch today.
I'm thinking about going back to Missouri on Wednesday because the weather forecast is for either freezing rain and or snow on Thursday. .
More later.
An update
I'm going to leave tomorrow. She's saying she's sick. I'm not going to stay and and get sick also.

gma22 10-28-2019 11:39 AM

Good morning ladies. We definitely are fully into fall now. I have a load in the washer, a load in the dryer and need to load the dishwasher, clean the kitchen and bathroom today. I’ve been sick a lot lately and pretty miserable. I think I’m going to have to talk to my doctor about what’s going on. It isn’t serious but debilitating because I don’t feel like leaving the house or even doing chores or cooking.

Jack was off Friday for a yearly cardiology appt. Everything is ship shape with his heart. He is back to work today. He was so funny. He brought all his dress shirts he wants to take on the cruise downstairs and ask me to help him pick out ties. We ended up buying new ties and actually had fun doing it. I would find some outrageous one and text it to him all the while trying to keep a straight face. We ended up with some really great combinations. I guess he changed his mind as he originally was going to wear just an open collar on non formal nights.

My baby blanket is coming along. My hands have been hurting a lot so haven’t gotten a lot of rows done but I do what I can.

CeeJay: Sounds like you are having a very nice visit with family members. I sure hope your nephew continues to lean on his psychiatrist when he feels in trouble. It may be the way he can permanently turn a corner. We’ve never been to Jonesboro but my sil’s grandmother lived there.
My favorite frozen less calorie meals are Lean Cuisine.

Jean: Years ago I remember seeing the cotton gins going full force in the fall in TX. The trucks and wagons would be lined up 20 deep sometimes. I was always fascinated by how they got all the ginning done. Does Ian play basketball? Seems to me umpires and refs don’t know what they’re doing anymore and no seems to make them do a better job. Did you find the missing $25?

Well sounds like washer is done so I better get a move on. Have a good day!

Jean 10-29-2019 04:50 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining, no wind is blowing, but it is colder today. I have had a frustrating day with my iPad! Yesterday it started closing any link, including here, I tried to look at to the point I gave up last night. I thought it was an internet problem so called them first thing this morning. The tech was a very nice lady who said it was most likely an Apple issue, and to try turning it completely off. When it restarted my email password had to be re-entered and then Google added some hoops to go through. I don't use voice recognition nor my thumbprint so it was like every time I thought I was done, I was back to square one. Will see if this goes through. I have the job of finding new officers for P.E.O. next year and so far have two vacancies, one is Vice President in charge of programs and the other recording secretary; both will have an assistant but need to be present at the majority of the meetings. Could be a challenge since our "able" group is small and several are gone for part of the winter months. I did get the list out so at least it is visible as a reminder. I saw somewhere that the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is shorter this year; just what I didn't need as it seems to take me longer to get things done lately. :hyper:

Ceejay, I had a WW lunch today. I didn’t check the date but it didn’t have much taste to it. :( I hope you enjoyed you lunch with your cousin and uncle yesterday. I sure don’t blame you for heading home early if your friend is sick! Safe travels!

”Gma,” so glad Jack had a good report from the doctor! :cp: I tried to talk Bob into a bow tie and he didn’t think he was ready for one yet. He has so many ties from his suit days at the office. He gave a bunch to a lady at church who made a quilt out of ties. She brought it one Sunday and it was beautiful. Ian played basketball last year but told me during the summer he wasn’t going to this year, Amanda said not to be surprised if he did because he is Mr. Social and his friends play. The problem is that he started playing late so doesn’t have the finesse moves he could. Jason said he could get a job so he might decide to play after all. We have the first playoff game Thursday night so no trick or treaters at this house. No, we didn’t find the $25 from last week; this week we were $10 long so guess we are losing our touch.

I need to clear off the kitchen table and pitch some catalogs. Hope you are enjoying a terrific Tuesday!

Good evening gals. We are supposed to get rain tonight, all day tomorrow and all day Thursday. I need to get my housecleaning caught up. With rain, I’m staying home so I have no excuse not to clean.

We had homemade burgers and Jack had tater tots for dinner. I made a pie and it’s baking in the oven right now. It smells wonderful. I’ll get a tiny piece or two. I did weigh myself and I’ve lost 20 lbs since my dr appt so I’ll take that. My next appt is in January and I’ll have a full workup then. I am trying one of my meds again to see if I can tolerate it until I see the doctor. I wish it would not give me the headaches and such so I could continue taking it.

I got some new tops today for winter. I used to get sweaters but I always get hot wearing them. I just got some long sleeved knit tops this year. I wear jeans all the time in the winter months.

I picked up my knitting this morning and was knitting away and found a mess. Each color is 16 rows, 2 rows make the pattern and each repeat in a row is 36 stitches. I had twelve rows done and discovered in row 4 I knit the wrong one so 8 rows had to be ripped out. I did that and picked up all the stitches, started a row and discovered somehow the last repeat was completely wrong. No clue how I did that. Anyhow, since all 4 rows were wrong I had to rip out all 4 rows and start the whole 16 rows over. {{{sigh}}} Now it is correct and I’ll go from here.

I got a nice surprise yesterday. Tricare sent me a reimbursement check for my insurance from Sept of 2018. You had to pay quarterly, but it was July, August, September and my Medicare started in September. I forgot all about it. It only took them a year to reimburse me.

Jean: We don’t do trick or treaters at our house. I don’t think it’s safe. We don’t really have many kids here and our neighbors with kids moved away so I don’t make up goody bags for them. I sent the boys money even though they are past the age. I had trouble with my ipad disconnecting from wifi every night. Jack finally found the issue so now it doesn’t do that. Safari seems to be awfully slow or the websites are, not sure which. My knitting pattern for the blanket keeps crashing and I have to reload it all the time, which is irritating. I like using my ipad because I can sit it up on the end table and just look at the instructions instead of messing with a paper pattern. Are you having Thanksgiving at your house? I think we’re just going to order from Cracker Barrel since it’s just the two of us.

Everyone have a good evening.

Congratulations for losing 20 pounds. That's great. You've given me an idea to set a weigh loss goal for my next doctors visit which is in March .
2020. I'm going to try to get heart healthy since heart disease is high on my mom's side of the family. My main goal is to raise my HDL, good cholesterol level. My LDL seems to be low enough.
I'm not doing trick or treat either.
--------------------------
I think the medication that the doctor gave nephew for sleep is to high of a dosage. He's slept to much and said that he had a "hangover" from that . At least that is what I'm hoping.
The weather forecast was for some of the white stuff last night but if it did snow I it didn't come to the ground. It's cold this morning at 29 degree's.
I moved the bed around in my nephew's room so that I could put a t.v. in there for him and get him off the couch, where he ended up sleeping most of the night. My abs and lower back are sore this morning.
I came home earlier than planned due to the weather prediction for today. But to be honest I was ready to come back. She mainly stayed in her roomed and texted me from there. She did invite her niece and family over for dinner one night and her step daughter over one night. Then said she was sick. And I ate lunch with one of my uncles and two cousins and there spouses. I really enjoyed that. I have an uncle who is in the nursing home and also visited with him. They both looked well.
Need to get on with my day. Laundry is first on my list of things to do then a trip to the grocery. I'm hungry for soup and cornbread.
Have a good day.

Happy Halloween and goodbye to October! If you go off Daylight Savings Time, don't forget to set your clocks back tomorrow . . . . "fall back!" The sun is shining, a breeze is blowing, and it's 19 degrees. For once my thermometer agrees with the tv weatherman. :) I have part of my "top layers" on in preparation for tonight's game. By the time I get everything on, plus my over-sized winter coat, I can hardly move. Jason and Bob like to sit on the 50 yard line and closer to the top by the press box so it is hard for me to escape if I get too cold. This is the first game of the three in playoffs and they are playing #7 team, anticipating a win. In the meantime I have a pair of farm jeans to mend and a load of laundry in the washer. The never ending pile appeared on the counter when I was looking for the hairdresser’s business card which I never did find. :(

“Gma,” we haven’t had any rain for several days but yesterday had a large puddle behind the furnace. The furnace drains water from time to time and there is a small plastic control (?) box that sits close the floor and regulates that. When they installed the furnace they put the box on the floor and Bob asked them to raise it because it would be sitting in water otherwise. What kind of pie did you make? :congrat: on losing 20#s! Are you using a specific eating plan? I notice FB has been having KETO food and recipes from time to time. I feel for you and your knitting snafu. I never know how to restart when I try to correct a mistake.

Ceejay, glad your safely home again. I love your new picture! Were they your cats at one time? I divided my trick or treat candy into four bags for the grandkids. I usually make a small sandwich bag size for them but this year, since we won’t be home, they are getting much larger bags! I never know how to plan as some years we get a lot of trick or treaters and in other years very few. The weather has a lot of influence since our block is long and a dead end. We are supposed to get rain tomorrow, I think. I’m sure the snow will fall soon enough but I’m never ready for that. Did your friend come out of her room when her family came for dinner; did she cook? Inquiring minds want to know!

I need to get busy and mend the jeans! Hope you enjoy a nice day doing something nice for yourself!

gma22 10-31-2019 08:02 PM

Good evening ladies. Chilly and wet here today. Jack put the cover over the spigot to keep it from freezing in case it dips low tonight. I turned the furnace on and set it at 70. We turn it down to 64 at night or it gets too hot upstairs. It is programmable so Jack needs to fool with it and program it. I told him to change out the filters this weekend. He has Saturday morning free though as the ESPN Gameday sports people will be broadcasting from Memphis on Saturday. If we were younger we’d go down there, but parking is bad downtown and it’ll be nuts down there. We’ll just sit in our warm living room and watch.

I probably am going to have a friend of a friend unfriend me on FB because I kind of told people off. She posted the article about the IN grandfather who has been charged for his granddaughter falling overboard on the cruise ship when he stuck her out one of the windows and she fell. They blame she and her friends blame the cruise line. It irked me because none of them have ever even been on a cruise ship let alone know anything about the windows. Anyway she’s not a friend of mine nor an acquaintance even, just a friend of a friend who wanted to be friends with me. Blame the person who stuck the little one in the window!

Quiet here as far as tricker treaters tonight but not the jerks with the hot rods revving their engines and playing loud music from their cars. Drives me crazy! We have three of them on this block now. It goes on all hours of the night and day.

CeeJay: For an obese woman I have excellent numbers. I have never had high cholesterol and my ldl and hdl are really great. My bp is around 120/75 most of the time with my meds so I’m really lucky. I had a doctor tell me even if I only lost a few lbs each year it was still great. Why does your sister just close herself off from you when you visit her or vice versa? Seems to me she’d want to visit with you. Glad you got to visit others you don’t see much.

Jean:  :brr: I hope we have a mild winter here. We really didn’t have fall temps. No not really doing anything just trying to watch what I eat but not really dieting as such. Ya Keto is the big thing but my drs are totally against it. They say it is dangerous to cut your carbs that much and not healthy. Speaking of healthy, I have to get around and get my flu shot. I haven’t done that yet. I imagine you feel like the Michelin man going out with all your layers on.

You all have a good evening.

ceejay52 11-01-2019 02:05 PM

Morning ladies
gma
My friend is like that and likes to be confined to her room. She was like that when she visited with me also.
My number are fairly good. My blood pressure goes up when I'm stressed. I inherited that from my mom's side of the family. I'm over weight because I eat too much. lol. My thyroid and anxiety comes from my mom's side of the family as well. Mom didn't have the anxiety but the bp yes.. My grandmother did have anxiety.

Jean
:brr: 19 degree's is cold for this time of the year for my area. Seems like we are missing the fall temps and heading into the winter temps. I'm not ready for that. The cats in the window are my nieces. I kept Miley, the darker colored one, for awhile until she moved to Florida. I still miss her.
------------------------
Been on the phone most of the morning with my insurance company filling out an application for a medigap plan. I'm mainly concerned with the hospitalization coverage with the advantage plan. The rest I like.
So far this morning I've cleaned the hall bathroom which my nephew uses and eaten breakfast. I'll do more in a few more odd jobs this afternoon.
Think every joint aches today. sigh
Have a good day.

Jean 11-01-2019 07:35 PM

Good Afternoon! We have had the strangest weirdest weather today! The deck and street were wet when we got up this morning. It is a little warmer so that is nice. The sun came out briefly and then disappeared. The wind came and went several times during the day as did the sun. I had six raindrops on the way home from the gift shop. It was closed yesterday and today so they could undecorate and then decorate for Christmas. From the looks of it today, they have a lot of Christmas items to get rid of! I had trouble getting to sleep last night. I don't know if allergies are kicking in again or I am getting a cold but have gone between sneezing and blowing to a stuffy nose. It was a short night and I have been dragging today. Bob is farming again so it must not be raining where they are. The sun is shining now, just in time to head down.

“Gma,” I saw the first newscast about the little girl falling on the cruise ship. I missed any of the follow up news so did they decide the grandfather was negligent and responsible for her death? How sad and senseless for the family. We have a neighbor who is the doctor in charge of our ER. He is young, but old enough to know better, and drives a pickup with loud mufflers. We don’t have to look to know when he drives by. He has all kinds of boats and “toys,” and Bob says he is a spoiled rich kid. They bought the house, on the lake, a year before they moved here and he was working weekends in the ER while doing his residency somewhere else. I counted and had on last night: a short sleeved t-shirt, cuddle duds top and bottom, turtleneck, sweatshirt, and a nylon pullover kind of top, heavy denim jeans, then my overstuffed poofy nylon coat! I wear wool socks so my feet stay warm and wrap my legs in a flannel backed nylon stadium blanket. Ian always gives me a hug and thanks us for coming which is a nice plus at the end of the game. They won 49-6 and everyone got to play which is nice for the kids who often don’t. The players congregate in the parking lot for the fans to congratulate. The school district has been putting pictures of the senior players with their parents on FB. I hope they do that next year!

Ceejay, I eat too much and don’t exercise, not a good combination! My numbers are all good except my triglycerides are a little high, too much sugar! We missed out on spring and fall both! :hyper: This is Iowa and the weather can change hourly. We are getting lots of insurance ads in the mail and on the phone. I hate trying to figure out anything to do with insurance and am thankful Bob understands it since he sells it. My shoulders ached last night from sitting scrunched at the game. I try not to do that but think the cold weather makes me do it.

I need to do some dishes that wouldn't fit in the dishwasher. Bob just came home, early for him. Said they spent most of the day fixing the combine. Not a good day for them. Hope you enjoy a nice evening.

Jean 11-03-2019 10:07 PM

Good Evening! It's not even 9:00 and I am ready for bed! YAWN! We got up to bright sunshine for about an hour then the clouds rolled in followed by a gloomy day of rain. Guys thought they could beat the rain but it was not to be. Area elevators were closed because they are full drying wet corn. Bob did deliver one semi load to a small elevator out in the middle of nowhere but the rain got serious so that ended their work for the day. Yesterday, after lunch, I got a text from Beth wanting to know what time we would be there for the show. Of course I had NO idea what she was referring to. Lucky for us, I had enough time to get Bob home and showered and change my clothes. I had it on the calendar, just didn't look at the calendar I am embarrassed to say. I bought tickets to a show choir fund raiser; dinner and a show of past show choir members who had gone on to pursue music careers plus a preview of one of this years varsity show choir's songs. There were so many kids trying out they ended up with three show choirs, lots of talent! I wasn't impressed with the meal but the Snickers/turtle cheesecake was delicious! Thursday night football and going off daylight savings has my "what day is it?" Confused!

I need to unload the dishwasher before I head upstairs. I can use another extra hour of sleep tonight to help my fuzzy brain! :dizzy: Hope you enjoy a marvelous Monday!

ceejay52 11-04-2019 11:26 AM

Busy day yesterday. We had a potluck soup lunch after church yesterday. I had chili. It was good on a cool Fall afternoon. Went to sissy's for a bit then drove out to visit with nephew's family and of course hold the newest baby.
Their house finally sold and they purchased another one back in almost the same area as before. The boys will be in a different school district but I think they will be okay if they start at the new semester.
I'm hoping I'm doing the right thing by going back to just regular Medicare. My drug, vision and dental plan is embedded in the advantage plan.I'm not sure if I will be happy with this or not. The only fear that I have is the hospitalization on the advantage plan. I pay for the first 5 days and that could get expensive.
Have a good rest of the day.
Today is chemo #10 for bil. I'll be taking him back to Branson after while. .

Jean 11-05-2019 02:34 PM

Good Afternoon! It's a gloomy day in my neighborhood, 30 degrees with a breeze so a little chilly outside. We voted on the school board and city council this morning. What a waste of taxpayers' money! All of our voting places were open and staffed with at least three workers; everyone on the ballots were incumbents seeking re-election, no new choices. Then Bob and I went to our new hair gal for haircuts. She is super fast! We were both in and out in a half hour. Our previous gal was close to an hour for Bob and a little over for me, plus she was more expensive. So now it is on to the rest of my day after running some errands. Bob is farming so won't see him until early evening.

Ceejay, I didn’t realize until I was reading some of the Medicare and insurance information, that not all doctors or clinics accept all insurance. Bob’s cataract surgery was more expensive than mine because he went to a different hospital, same surgeon though. That hospital had some measurement machine that our’s does not have. Trying to keep ahead of insurance companies is a challenge!

I've done some laundry and now need to take a check to the hospital. Hope you are enjoying a terrific Tuesday!

ceejay52 11-05-2019 06:11 PM

Afternoon
I had an orthopedic doctor's appointment this afternoon in Ozark, just a little ways down the road. They made x-rays of my thumb. I have arthritis in it joint where it connects to the wrist. The arthritis is to the point that the joint has almost closed. She barely had enough room to give me an injection, which hurt like the dickens. After this I had to go to therapy to be fitted for a brace. I'm to wear it for a month and then go back to the doctor. I'm going back to therapy next week so she can see that I'm doing the exercises correctly.
It's been a beautiful day.
I'm thinking very seriously about keeping the advantage plan. Now that I've signed up for the other plan I'm getting cold feet. It's very hard for me to make decisions.

Jean
I do try to stay within the system that I signed up for. They do accept Medicare. And since I've been with my primary care doctor for three years I hope they will except my change. Guess I should have thought about that before hand.

gma
 What are you up to today?

Jean 11-06-2019 03:59 PM

Good Afternoon! I am NOT happy to share that it is seriously snowing in my neighborhood; the deck is covered and it is sticking on the fallen leaves. It is windy and cold to add to the mix. That said, I will carry on. I went to get my nails done this morning then remembered today was flu shot day at the hospital so came home to put on a short sleeved shirt for easy access. This year the nurse was in a room that had a store room/closet for anyone having to remove their top because of long sleeves. Go figure. Then I took a look at "Christmas" in the gift shop. The buyers put in a lot of work! I brought home several invoices, close to 25, that is merchandise picked in the spring, and shipped, but payment not due until December 1st. I have bell choir later this afternoon; we play this Sunday and it is also consecration Sunday which means it will be a long service. I don't like the one piece as it is long and I have way too many accidental notes, time changes, and key changes throughout. Not a fun piece imo. Bob is farming I think, since I haven't heard otherwise.

Ceejay, I hope the injection into your thumb helps. Was it cortisone? That is what I had and while it didn’t hurt exactly, it did sting pretty hard for a few seconds, maybe a minute. It took a few days but it has helped and my thumb no long “clicks” or gets stuck curled up. Getting older is hard on the body for sure!

I need to get to my check writing and make a dent in the pile. Hope the sun is shining on you and enjoy the rest of your day.

gma22 11-06-2019 04:04 PM

Hmmm another post disappeared. I wonder what I am doing wrong? It’s a decent day today, not too cold, but we are heading to some cold stuff by the end of the week it looks like. I need to get out and chop weeds and put on weed killer again. They are drag racing out on the main street again. Sounds like being under a Navy jet it’s so loud.

I sure hope I can finish the blanket. I am bored with it. I need to finish my friend’s sweater too before the cruise.

We’re having taco salad for dinner but Jack texted me and said he wants to take a nap when he gets home first. I’m glad he has a three day weekend coming up. We are going to shampoo carpets over Thanksgiving weekend because he’s taking a couple extra days off. It’s just the two of us for dinner so no biggy.

CeeJay: Hope your hand gets to feeling better. Jack’s left hand was so bad bone was rubbing against bone. The surgery fixed that, but it did cause some other small issues. He says his other hand is hurting now, but he can’t have surgery until after the cruise in April as he needs twelve weeks off and has to use FMLA and he isn’t eligible to use it again until after the first of the year. It’ll be a lot harder because it’s his dominant hand. I can’t say much about anything to do with Medicare. What Medicare doesn’t take care of Tricare picks up. We don’t have to have a Medicare supplement as Tricare is our supplement. I had to pay $6 for an emergency room bill awhile back but that was all. I bought stuff to make chili so may make that this weekend if it gets cold.

Jean: Well, at least you had good dessert. Has it snowed there yet? I am reading about how bad winter is going to be this year. Do you like the new hair gal better? I have an appt the 22nd and I want her to pixie cut it. The arthritis in my shoulders has gotten terrible and it gets very hard to try and blowdry/style my hair. We had city/county stuff recently but I was really sick that day and didn’t go vote. This next year’s election is going to get ugly. It’s like a bunch of children.

Well, Jack will be home soon. Have a nice evening.
