Steel Magnolias #34

Good morning ladies. Well it is back to rain again, but the temps are up until Saturday then the bottom drops out. They are predicting a 40 degree difference between Friday and Saturday. :fr:

I am doing a load of laundry and working on the afghan and that’s it today except for daily chores. Night before last the idiot neighbors were out in their garage all night making noise. I got no sleep. So am still trying to recoup I think. I am sitting here right now feeling sleepy. I may have to take a morning nap.

We are going to have spaghetti tonight I think. I made Jack breakfast for dinner last night just as a change of pace. I get tired of trying to think up new things he would eat.

I hope neither of you get slammed with that big snowstorm coming from the west. We are going to get heavy rain from it. At least that’s what it looks like. My bff says they have about 4 inches as of yesterday, but the main thing is it’s icy.

Jean: Cards have gotten completely ridiculous. I end up spending $10 getting the boys cards and you know they read them and throw them away. No one saves them anymore. We have a problem with Google that I have been trying to get fixed for about 5 years. If you use Google Maps and put our address in the directions, it changes it from Tulip Poplar to Star Blossom. There is No Star Blossom. Ultimately, it’s a problem getting package deliveries once in awhile. I have contacted them repeatedly to fix it but as yet they haven’t.

CeeJay: Hope you have no bad weather problems the next couple days. They sure are predicting some bad stuff in Missouri and Kansas.

Have a good one ladies!

Jean 01-17-2019 01:26 PM

Good Morning! We got a little snow during the night, just enough that Bob brushed off the deck and driveways. Our neighbor will be moving soon to assisted living and we own the snowblower together. Bob has been clearing her driveway for several years after her husband wasn’t able to do it any more. I went for a nail fill taking in the predicted weather/snow forecast for tomorrow. I still think the tv weathermen aren’t sure what is coming. Then a quick stop at the grocery store for what I forgot yesterday. I am getting good at that. *sigh* A load of laundry is next on my list. We have a meeting at church tonight; Bob has to give his endowment report.

Ceejay, we have had a lot of foggy mornings lately. The last one caused some slippery roads. I hope you feel better today.

”Gma,” a lady sitting next to me at the nail salon, guessing about my age, commented on much our weather has changed in the last few years. She, like me, takes what the weathermen predict with a grain of salt. Spaghetti sounds good, we have’t had that for awhile. I buy boxes of plain note cards and write my own messages if I can. I get the kids the 99 cent cards for holidays and special ones for birthdays. I try to include a special message and date those. I know Maddy saves her cards. Beth still has cards and letters my mom sent to her. When GPS first came out our street exit coming off the highway was shown on the map but it didn’t show any more but the name. They say not to put your home address on GPS in case your car is stolen. We rarely use ours unless we are going somewhere we have never been, then usually use the iPad.

I have leftover soup to warm up for lunch, Bob will be home soon. He said he was hungry for chocolate cake so maybe I will make a mini cake this afternoon and surprise him for supper. Enjoy the rest of a terrific Thursday!

Jean 01-17-2019 05:21 PM

Winter storm warning just issued for surrounding counties plus us. :( Maybe the weathermen were right this time. :lol3:

ceejay52 01-17-2019 08:57 PM

Feeling a bit better. Made it to the gym and to WM. Also made spaghetti for my dinner tonight. It was good.
Dreading the next round of cold wintry weather.
Sis got sick (vomiting) at work today and left early with out her phone. She contacted me via email and it was luck that I looked at my email today. She had been trying to contact her dh so she wanted me to call him. I did and he's responded to her. He said he'd been trying to contact her for the past hour. To top this off this is her birthday. She said last week that a virus has been going around.
I've been sleeping in till 10 a.m. this week. Why I don't know unless it's the dark, gray, skies that we have been having.
I've asked my nephew to teach me how to light a fire in my fireplace. I think I can do it but need to have some one to hold my hand the first time around. I purchased some of those Duraflame logs and some wood sticks like you use when one goes camping. I've decided that a fire might be the thing to help break this mood.

-------
"Gma"
I'm hoping that the weathermen are wrong but it sure looks like this one is going to come around. It is January after all. I made spaghetti tonight for my supper.
Spaghetti is something I can eat left overs from. Seems like the flavors are better the second day.
Jean
Do you have a Dollar Tree near by? They have cheap cards. Ii don't like paying 5 or 6 dollars for cards to be thrown away. The only problem I will have is if the power goes out during the storm.. The temperature is supposed to take a nose dive to single digit's Saturday night.

Jean 01-18-2019 03:53 PM

Happy Friday! Another cloudy day with just a few teeny tiny snowflakes floating around. I think the weathermen cried “wolf” this time around but maybe we will still get more. This is Iowa anything can happen! I made another quick trip to the grocery store before 9:00 for bread and milk; you’d have thought the storm was going to hit at 9:30! The store was packed and that’s all people were talking about. I also stopped by the library to return a book and get another one. I didn’t want to be snowbound without a book. I am disgusted with our cable company. We were getting the game show channel which had some old, old reruns but also some shows I had never seen before. Sometimes that was all that was worth watching! All of a sudden it is gone and if we want it, another $15 on our bill. I don’t think so! I picked up the gift shop money after lunch, counted it, and Bob dropped it off at the bank, which will be closed Monday. I’ve had a couple suggestions on how to fix my email glitch on the laptop so am going to say my prayers and give them a try. Then I’m going to finish my book and maybe start the next one.

Ceejay, I made a baked spaghetti casserole for lunch today. It wasn’t as good as I remembered it. :( I do think my tastes are changing as I get older. It’s too bad your sister was sick on her birthday. Hope she is feeling better. We used the paper logs in our wood burning fireplace and they worked well. Bob had it converted to gas which was a waste of money. The thermostat is on the wall across from it plus the stairway in the living room, so the furnace won’t run if the fireplace is going and the heat goes up the stairs. We have a neighbor who burns wood and sometimes we can smell it. It smells so good. We do have a Dollar Tree and they are carrying Hallmark cards as is WM and one of our grocery stores. Dollar Tree seems to have some that are cheaper than the other places. We invested in a generator because we have two sump pumps, one of which pumps to the sewer. If our power goes off for very long the basement would flood. Many years ago we had rain first, then ice, then snow. Jason was still home so he and Bob baled with buckets and hauled them out to the driveway. Bob and I did it once together then decided we were to old to do that any more.

Hope you are having a sunny warm day and enjoying life! Have a nice weekend!

ceejay52 01-19-2019 11:22 AM

The snow is finally here. When I got up this morning we had a dusting but now it's more like an inch. The howling wind is blowing the snow from the roof tops. The flakes themselves are tiny.
The weather is playing havoc with my hip joint.
Have a good good Saturday

Jean 01-19-2019 04:02 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining, it has warmed up to 13 from -1, and we got just a little snow, much less than predicted. I’ve done some laundry, decluttering, and readded some gift shop figures from December to prove my figures are right. The accountant shorted me about $600+ because she was missing a payroll signature sheet. I know she has it in a pile somewhere because I personally sent it up to her. My “boss” made her another copy. I don’t want to meet with her without having my ducks in a row. I came up with the same figures three times, good enough for me!

Ceejay, your weather sounds like what we were supposed to get. I’m convinced weather affects muscles and joints. Hope your hip is feeling better.

I need to put my gift shop books away and iron clothes for church tomorrow. We have couples card club tomorrow night. I have a luncheon Monday and ladies card club that night. Ian has a game Tuesday. I work the gift shop Wednesday. That’s as far as I can remember! Enjoy the rest of your day!

Jean 01-20-2019 02:44 PM

Good Afternoon! It’s another cold, 2 degree cloudy day, the kind of cold that goes right through your coat. :brr: The church was cold this morning too; I went and got my coat! We tried a different restaurant in a nearby town for breakfast. After getting “raw” bacon last week, this place knows how to fix well done, crispy bacon! It was delicious! We will have supper at card club, so no cooking here today. :D I just spent what seemed like hours jumping through the hoops, AGAIN, to my get email fixed on the laptop. SUCCESS finally! :cheer: I had to set up an alternative email account in order to get a verification code, one I had many, many years ago but was closed because I rarely used it. I was smart enough to write down my new password! :cp: I was able to keep my gmail email address which was good.

I have some laundry to fold so better get that done. Enjoy the rest of your day!

ceejay52 01-20-2019 11:14 PM

It was 11 degrees this morning when I got up for the day. I text the pastor last night to let him know that I would not be at church today My pastor is my BIL. I travel 35 miles to go to church where my sis and BIL go. But at 11 degrees and I wasn't sure how the roads were so I stayed inside.
Nephew came yesterday with enough wood to last awhile. I have no where to put the inside but he put it in the off/exercise room. I'm going to rearrange the wood tomorrow and maybe take it out to the garage. I can light a fire in the fireplace now.
Think I have my menus planned out next week. Meat loaf with green beans and scalloped potatoes, and Mexican chicken with salad. I'll get some type of fruit to have also. I do want to cut back on my soda intake and drink more water but I simply do not like water. Think it is because I treated drinking water for 24 years .

Jean
Yes, I'd be doing a happy dance too to finally get my email opened. I can not handle raw bacon. But I do like breakfast food any time of the day.

Good Afternoon! It’s another bitterly cold windy day in my neighborhood but the sun came out after lunch. Church counting went well this morning except the office was so cold my hands were cold the whole time I was there. I went to a P.E.O. social lunch (no meeting in January so we have lunch together to catch up after the holidays) then home to warm up again. I have card club tonight and know I will be going out in the cold after dark. So glad I can remote start the car before I leave to come home. Last night when we went to play cards we could see the flashing emergency lights across the lake. It turns out a car went through the ice; a man and a child died while two other children were airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. There have been no details as to who or why yet. Sad if an unavoidable accident, dumb if he deliberately went out on the lake.

Ceejay, you are smart to plan your menu. I tend to fly by the seat of my pants when it comes to planning meals. We are on the go so much that when I try to plan we either eat leftovers forever, or I’m missing ingredients because I didn’t check beforehand. Not smart, I know. The two things about the “raw” undercooked bacon is that we had the waiter I don’t especially care for and he didn’t write “well done/crispy” on the order ticket. Once he brought our food he never came back near us so I could point the undercooked bacon to him. Next time I will ask for a different area of the restaurant and wait if I have to. The gals all get it right for me! So far the laptop is letting me into my email. I even wrote my new password down “just in case.”

I have some laundry to fold so better get it done. Then a cup of hot cider! Enjoy the rest of your day!

Jean 01-22-2019 11:00 AM

Good Morning! Another night of not sleeping the best, kept waking up for some reason. This is getting old! It’s a gloomy morning in my neighborhood but there is no wind blowing. :) We are supposed to have freezing drizzle turning to snow this afternoon. Ian has a game but we will decide, depending on what the weather is doing, whether or not to go. I have to work in the gift shop tomorrow otherwise we could stay overnight. I have lots of things I can do today, mainly clean. The guy came to look at the shower, tile needs to be replaced. What he wants to use, and the sample he brought, is shaded gray and looks kind of marbley. I’m not a fan of gray even though I know it is the “in” color right now. I wanted white and white doesn’t come in the size tile he is recommending we use. My atomic temperature clock said it was 38 degrees this morning. Haha! Noticed the batteries need to be replaced and have none on hand of course. Bob has to get on a ladder to change the outside part so not sure if that will happen today. Wish I had a nickel for every time I have looked at it this morning. I finally took it down! I need to get moving and accomplish something today! Have a terrific Tuesday and enjoy your day!

ceejay52 01-22-2019 01:06 PM

My nephew stopped by the house yesterday. He needed a place to land for awhile while their house was being cleaned. His oldest son was running a fever. He thought he had an ear infection and his youngest son was here too. He needed to run an errand so I told him to let me keep the boys with me. He told them that they would go to MCD when he got back. I went with them. I really enjoy those two little boys. However, the 6 year old is chest high on me now.
After they left I went to the gym and grocery store. The wind was around 40 mph and brutally cold. Wished I had stay inside. My body was cold to the bone when I got home.
We had snow on the ground yesterday but this morning it's mostly gone. It warmed up during the night.
I've had a couple of business task to take care of this morning that has been partially been taken care of. The main office is telling me not to pay any more but the place where I'm sending my money says pay it. I've gotten 2 refund checks back from the main office. I've asked the place where I mail the check to to send me all information that I have on my account. I'm going to get to the bottom of this even if I have to make a trip to Paragould, Arkasnas Where I grew up.
I'm going to have to do something with the wood in the office area of the house. It bothers my sinuses if I'm in here to long of a time.

Jean
This time of year it's iffy on whether to travel or not. But it would be a wise idea to plan to spend the night. But I'm sure you will decide what is right for you. I'm a wimp when it comes to this cold weather.

Good afternoon. I have had issues being able to post here. When I get in, the page jumps all over the place and I can’t post. Looks like whatever was going on has settled down. Didn’t do much today. I was having trouble with my knee so slept downstairs last night. It was ok, but I feel kind of worn out.

We filed our taxes and I got a notice that they accepted them. Memphis has an Irs office so our taxes stay here in town. They called 1000 workers back in to the Memphis office to start doing the taxes and 18000 overall. The Irs website said it is processing our return so we shall see how long it takes.

I need to go out tomorrow and get my nails done but it is supposed to rain so I may wait until Thursday. Friday is my Social Security appointment. I’ll be glad when that’s done.

I have been fighting with billing at my doctor’s office about 4 charges. Well, come to find out 3 of them were before I went to Medicare and Tricare upped their copays. The clinic didn’t keep up with the changes and under charged me so I mailed them the $24 dollars I owed them. I did tell them it is their responsibility to keep up with changes. The other charge was after I went on Medicare and the clinic somehow didn’t bill my second payer, Tricare for Life. I told them to refile because I didn’t owe the $102.60. Hopefully they will straighten it out. Funny thing is they never wrote me a letter or called me just kept billing me. I told them to contact me about what was going on and explain it to me and they never did. Sheesh.

It is in the 40’s now but it gets pretty chilly at night. At least we don’t have snow.

Jean: A friend posted on FB that the area in Alaska where she used to live with her husband it was minus 53 degrees there today. :fr: I hate limp undercooked bacon. Like you, I want it crispy. We used to have a Perkins close by several years ago and one of the waiters would bring us a stack of bacon instead of 2-3 slices. Enough I took leftovers home and made blts with it. They closed it about 6 yrs ago. We have to drive across town now. You’s think there’d be a ton of places to eat breakfast here but not much. We’ve lost 2 Perkins, 3-4 Ihops, both Bob Evans. We have a couple more funky places the college kids go to, but they’re too crowded. Hope you didn’t get rain that caused slippery conditions like my friend did in IN.

CeeJay: I miss the boys being small and my great nieces and nephews live a long way from us. In fact, I have 3 great great nieces and one great great nephew on the way, but they live up in Indianapolis. We’ll see them in April when we visit their grandparents. I hope your sister is feeling better.

Everyone have a good afternoon. I have to rustle up the ingredients for sloppy joes tonight.

Jean 01-23-2019 03:48 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and the snow is melting, before the deep freeze moves in tomorrow! I sold a few things in the gift shop this morning but both it and the coffee shop were slow. I forgot my magazines so the time seemed to drag. Bob came for lunch in the cafeteria then I dropped a box off at the UPS store and came home. I’m playing phone tag with a gal trying to set up a visit schedule for the manor. I’d just as soon skip it but this is “our” month to visit and time is running out. Bell practice is later this afternoon.

“Gma,” every once in awhile when I start to type, the page will flip clear down to the bottom. Glad you got your billing straightened out. We had a gift card charge on a credit card bill for $67. The card is in my name but Bob uses it for business and pays the bill. He couldn’t remember what, or if, he bought a gift card. Of course, they wouldn’t tell him anything even though he is authorized to use the card. So I play the menu game and finally get a live person. I got Bob authorized to question any charges then asked about the gift card charge. The guy said he would have to call another number, could I wait. It was time for me to head to the hospital so I asked him to leave a message on my phone. He couldn’t do that because of security so I called back this afternoon. It seems the purchase was for theater tickets which in checking the calendar, I have nothing written down. So will let Mr. B decide the next move when he gets home. We evidently got something wet during the night because our driveway was glazed this morning. The paper said they found another vehicle in the lake when they were trying to get the SUV out, that makes three. The sheriff has banned all vehicles from going out on the ice as it is measuring different thicknesses all over. We had open water at one point during the 40 degree days. My question would be how would a visitor know there is a ban, as well as some of the locals who don’t get a newspaper, listen to the local radio station, or watch tv news.

Hope you are enjoying a wonderful sunny Wednesday!

gma22 01-25-2019 08:38 PM

Evening ladies! We are winding down for theevening watching live PD. When we left the SS office we came home and picked up my scooter and went shopping at Fresh Market. Got everything on my list except taco lettuce, came home and put stuff in fridge and went to Hueys for dinner. Jack wanted nachos, which are murder for me. I end up eating too many. This time I didn’t and had fish and chips for dinner. They screwed up Jack’s sandwich so we had to wait for them to remake it correctly. They put lettuce and mayo and he wanted mustard and onions. Wasn’t the waiter’s fault but the cooks. Jack hates even the smell of mayo. We came home and tucked in for the night.

Jack has an 8 AM appointment to get new tires. Geez louise, $1300!! Then Sunday afternoon we’ll finish up grocery shopping. I have a waxing appt Tuesday and my mammo on Friday. We are supposed to have bad weather on Friday. I hope I can get it done and back home before snow starts.

Jean: That’s too bad about the credit card. Hope you can get it straightened out. Does the cafeteria have pretty good food? Why would idiots drive out on the lake, especially in the dark? I know men do it to go ice fishing, but pretty stupid at night imo. I think they should post around the lake about danger on driving out on lake.

Everyone have a good evening!

ceejay52 01-26-2019 12:35 PM

posting from phone

I've been sick with the crud. Wednesday and Thursday were my worse days. The coughing has been horrible. but I'm on the mend. my appetite is returning so that's a good sign as well.
it's been cold 8 degrees yesterday morning.

Jean 01-26-2019 02:09 PM

Good Afternoon! It’s cold, windy, and cloudy again today. We got a dusting of snow early and a few flakes off and on all morning. I’ve done a couple loads of laundry and changed the sheets. Bob should be home soon from “farmer” coffee. I need to iron his shirt for church tomorrow, last Sunday to duty usher. He does fill in when ushers don’t show up. We have a program tonight called Farewell Angelina. They are a singing group I think. For some reason a nap is sounding very inviting.

“Gma,” I think Bob is going to investigate the credit card charge further. Yesterday customer service offered to send new cards and close the current account. I known I didn’t order anything. He and another agent ordered the little sticky calendars and he is going to check his bill which was at home. Bob did buy a gift card for the mailman but usually he pays cash for that kind of thing. ‘‘Tis a mystery! :dizzy:

Ceejay, I’m sorry you’ve been sick. Different ones have said the cough is the worst part and lasts a long time. Glad you are on the mend!

Time to scratch up something for lunch! Hope you enjoy the rest of the day.

Jean 01-27-2019 05:26 PM

Good Afternoon! It is seriously trying to snow in my neighborhood. Otherwise it has been another cold, windy, gloomy day again. We thought the sun was coming up because the eastern sky was “orange” on our way to church. No such luck. Our retired superintendent “preached” this morning and he was so good, much better than the minister! He spoke for a half hour where usually a fill-in might make it to 15 minutes but never a half hour. He was so personable and down to earth with his message. A nice change! We went out for breakfast at the same place as last week. I didn’t order bacon this morning but a Western omelette instead. It was good. We came home to change clothes then made a WM and hardware store stop. I needed orphan food and Bob wanted a new lever type handle for the shower, also picked out a light gray paint for the bathroom. This afternoon I worked on the leftover Christmas wrapping, greeting cards, and clothes clutter in the spare bedroom. Bob is going to put the sink, vanity, and towel tower in there to get them out of the way. What a production this has turned out to be but will be nice to have it done. The tile and grout is “new and improved” so hope it lasts as long as what is there now. I’m glad I will be gone tomorrow morning when the guy shows up. Bob said he would hang around. This is the same guy who has done several projects for us so know his work. I’m taking a little break to watch the gymnasts on tv. Hope you are enjoying a nice day today.

gma22 01-27-2019 05:57 PM

Good afternoon. We started out partly sunny and cold, but got up to 56 and mostly sunny today. I know most of the midwest and north is going to be bitterly cold, so everybody stay warm.

We did Fresh Market Friday and when we went to do the vacuum sealing the chicken was spolied. What I was irked most about is I slit the paper wrap and you could smell it without even unwrapping it and they put their meat in plastic bags, twirl it, fold it over then wrap in butcher style paper and seal it. So, there is no way the woman couldn’t smell it when she took it out of the case. I sent an email to the store manager with the bar code, my receipt number and the cashier and time. I told him I wasn’t driving across town for $4, but I was not happy. Haven’t heard back.

We went to Target to pick up Jack’s camera and case and I bought a digital camera for my friend for her birthday to take on the cruise next year. We then finished grocery shopping at WM, went and got a bite of lunch then came home and put it all away. Jack sat and fooled with his camera, (he somehow got it stuck in german and took him awhile to figure out how to put it in english. ) I did laundry and have been reading while dryer is going.

I have a waxing appointment on Tuesday and my mammogram on Friday. Cleaning house and that’s it for me this week.

CeeJay: I feel for you. My coughing got so bad I bruised myself. The stuff hung on too. I hope you are feeling better.

Jean: I thought you said you didn’t like gray. I think it’s a nice neutral for wall because you can use any other colors to decorate pretty much. You figure a preacher can tell you what he thinks you should knoe in 30 minutes. After that he’s just showing off. Did Bob get the lever for the shower door or for the shower head? We have a shower head you can pop out and make handheld or leave in place as a shower head. It has a button where you can make the whole thing have water come out, just the hand held, or just the halo part if you take the handheld out. I think it’s either a Delta or a Moen and it’s the only one we’ve ever had that’s lasted a decent amount of time.

Well, my dryer just told me it’s finished so better get them folded. Have a good evening.

Jean 01-28-2019 01:41 PM

Good Morning! It is very windy and bitterly cold in my neighborhood today, “feels like” -17. Too cold to be out and about! There wasn’t much to count this morning so I was done in record time. The guy working on the shower is using some sort of drill to chip away at the tile and it is so noisy. Ernie doesn’t like it and there is no place for him to go hide to get away from it. I have laundry in the washer and dryer which may be my only accomplishment for the day. The sun is peeking out but it is supposed to stay very cold for the next few days.

“Gma,” how aggravating about the spoiled chicken. Yuck! I hope you get your money refunded! I don’t like gray but this is lighter shades of gray, kind of looks like marble. Not sure what color towels to get. I wanted white tile but the contractor wants to use 12” x 24” tiles and they don’t come in white. I didn’t want blue or green, etc., aqua is coming back but that is what was here when we moved in. Bob did find the lever he wanted.

The dryer should be done so need to fold towels and put them away. Enjoy the day and keep warm!

ceejay52 01-28-2019 06:56 PM

I came to Branson, Missouri this afternoon to stay with sis a few days. She has a service repairman coming to look at the heater. I asked if she minded if I came today to be here in the morning and since I'm sick I wasn't sure what the answer would be but here I am. I'm going to stay till Thursday because of the very cold temperatures the next couple of days. Don't like being out on the road in this kind of weather by myself.
I had a phone call from a well known software company stating that they needed to assign me a new IP address because of all the viruses on the computer. I had blocked this number before and they came through by using my telephone number to call me. How odd is this? I have a virus protection on my computer.

"GMA"
Yuck with the spoiled chicken I don't blame you for telling the people about it. I hope they refund the money or at least give you a credit. Did you bruise yourself internally when you coughed?

Jean
You will enjoy the bathroom when it's done.

gma22 01-29-2019 08:25 AM

Good :brr: morning! We are in the low 20’s this morning and only getting into 30’s today and tomorrow then a nice warm up. I know most of the north is having dangerous temps. My grandson’s school has closed for 2 days so he’ll have fun playing video games I imagine. Too cold to be outside and play. I feel for folks and their heating bills.

I have a waxing appt today and have a killer sinus headache but have to go. I can’t do my underarms anymore because arthritis makes it difficult to raise my arms. We kind of work together on it to get waxing done. I have a mammogram Thursday, not Friday so need the waxing done.

Jack had board meeting last night and complained about the neighbors 3 doors down with their garbage. They took all that filth out of the garage and piled it up against the side of the garage for trash pickup and the trash guys won’t pick it up. Jack went out last night and took a picture and he said something was moving around in it. I hope it wasn’t rats!!! The manager guy said he told them to clean it up. If they don’t he’s getting his guy to do it then charging the owner. There are renters in there now, real scuz.

CeeJay: No I externally bruised myself. I coughed so hard without a bra my breasts caused it. During that time, wearing it was really uncomfortable so I did the lesser of two evils I guess. I have never had a cold that bad before. Hope you are on the mend and stay until temps rise towards weekend. Our car batteries aren’t made for temp extremes for one thing. You’d not want to get stranded and there are some long lonely stretches of road there. These scammers are using a system where when they call you it looks like it is a local number, then when you answer they cause trouble. I have a blocking app on my cell phone and any call that gets through that if I don’t know it I let it roll to voicemail. I then manually block thenumber if they don’t leave a message. I read an article not too long ago that said do not call can’t keep up with scammers technology. You are better off not believing anybody on the phone and calling your computer or cell phone or whatever company directly to make sure everything is ok. Anything you do on the internet they pick up on and use. For example, if you are on the internet looking at recipes. The “cookies” that attach then give the info out and you start getting scam calls. I am getting calls and mail about swimming pools and I live in a condo.

Jean: Well, teal colors for towels are nice with gray or white. Hope you don’t have to be out much the next couple days.
A few days ago I kept hearing a noise that wouldn’t quit in the kitchen. I thought it might be the fridge though it’s only a couple years old. When I opened it I heard nothing but it was realky noisy. I opened the bottom cabinets next to fridge and it was loud. I then thought it might be the ice maker water line because the ran it through the back of the cabinets, but I could not find anything. I texted Jack and he said it was probably the neighbors, which it was. The noise went on all day then started on and off late afternoon then quit. No clue as to what was going on over there.

Ya’ll keep warm!!!

Morning. It's cold in Branson at 16 degrees when I got up at 8 this morning just before my sis went to work.
I think I will go to Target a little later this afternoon or tomorrow to purchase a gift for a baby shower on Saturday for my nephew's wife.

Jean
I agree with GMA that the teal bath towels would be ice with the light gray in the bathroom.

"GMA"
Sounds like your neighbors had an afternoon delight. lots of laughs. I don't like unexplained noise either.

Ya'll stay warm. .

Good Afternoon! Another cold day in my neighborhood; 30 mph winds and feeling like -31. A good day to be inside where it is toasty warm. I’ve had a perm appointment for a week and decided to go this morning. The sun was shining when I left and I saw a sun dog. Now it is cloudy which Bob said was good because it holds the air down so it is “warmer.” Sure doesn’t feel warmer to me! I called my friend, whose husband just died, to see what kind of a meal or food she would like from our P.E.O. group. She worked at the college for many years and is a part of several other groups; she said they had more food than they knew what to do with. She did call me back and asked for specific brands of pop and bottled water. That is easy enough. I know we will be serving a meal for another member who is in Hospice. :(

Ceejay, I’m glad you are at your sister’s house. Hope you feel better soon. I hate when I hurry to answer the phone and it is one of “those” calls. If I don’t feel like getting up I let it go to the answering machine and then they hang up. ;) We are now down to -8, not sure how cold it is supposed to get tonight. Too cold! :brr:

”Gma,” our local college as well as both colleges in Sioux City cancelled classes for today and tomorrow. Area schools have even cancelled for Thursday. I would hate to have my children waiting for a bus. Our local police have left garbage/junk notices all over town and it hasn’t done any good. Since the new garbage can requirement went into effect people are parking them in front of their houses. Looks real classy . . . . NOT! With the extreme cold the house has snapped, crackled, and popped some. I think the hammering yesterday didn’t help any. The noise part is done, he put the cement floor foundation in today. As soon as it is dry will start on the walls I think.

Guess I will brave the cold and go get the pop and water. When I get back I have a load of laundry which should be done and ready for the dryer. The bathroom tile is supposed to be delivered this afternoon sometime. Enjoy the rest of a terrific Tuesday!

Good Morning! The sun is shining brightly, not a cloud in the sky, -20 with 15 mph wind so that it feels like -45! :brr: Gee, I could be the weather person on tv! I have laundry going and am waiting to make a phone call to a person who likes to sleep later. I am getting cabin fever! I didn’t venture out to get the funeral pop and water yesterday so will do that a little later. The wind has gone down quite a bit from yesterday; with the sunshine it just looks warmer so will go in a bit. Lots of places are closed today but I know WM and the grocery stores will be open. Hope you are enjoying a sunny Wednesday! Keep warm, spring is on the way!

It's cold but not as cold as where Jean lives. It's 15 degree's in Branson. The sun in shining and is supposed to start warming up today.
The repairman came yesterday and did what he was supposed to. The heater works a lots better.
Talked to my sis who lives in Georgia. She is planning a trip to come the last part of May.
My throat is much better this morning. I'm still coughing but not as much. The crud is in my nose so I think I'm on my way to being well.
Jean
Have you been seeing the little fur balls since it's been so cold? Stay warm.

Good Morning! It’s 3 degrees ABOVE 0!!! However, with the wind it’s feels like -18! Spring is on the way! I went to have my nails filled first thing this morning, stopped at the florist for funeral flowers, and made a quick stop at the grocery store for apples and bananas. $48 later, I am home! We are leaving for Ian’s game shortly after lunch. We’re going to Jason’s house and ride with them since we’re not sure where we are going. Maybe I will get to see the zebra and camel on the way. Shower construction is progressing, slowly but surely.

Ceejay, was it your heater that needed repair or your sister’s heater? Either way, I’m glad it is fixed and working properly. The fuzz balls have taken up residence in the cooler after Bob installed the light bulb. All four fit and nothing larger can get in because he attached a coffee can for an entrance, more to keep the snow out than anything. After they have breakfast they either leave or go back in their “house”. The larger kitten, from last spring, fits in the bird house Bob remodeled last year. There is no heat but the larger kitten is also long haired and it keeps him/her out of the wind. We have a heater in the bird bath and they don’t like it when Bob takes the bucket of water out to fill it. We’ve been giving the birds and squirrels extra food since it has been so cold. It’s fun to watch them get scrappy over the peanuts. Sometimes they will miss a couple and the kittens will play hockey with them.

Bob is home for lunch which is scalloped potatoes and hame today. :T Hope you have a terrific Thursday and enjoy!

Jean
Both our heaters needed repair. He's at my house today. Yum on the scalloped potatoes and ham.

The repairman is here working on my heater today.. I still don't feel 100% from all this crud I've had. My throat seems to be more sore today. Still coughing.
I've misplaced some papers that I really need to take care of some business.
When I came home yesterday there was a bit of snow on the drive way.
I'm really looking forward to the warmer temperatures this weekend.

Good morning, ladies! Sunny and cold today but hopefully 70 on Thursday. Monday it was 5 degrees. Winter in VA!

My life is pretty boring. I go to the Y 5 days, quilt and do chores. I am in a research study for Alzheimer's. I don't have it. It is to test the effects of diet and brain health. We follow the Mind Diet which is a combination of Dash and Mediterranean diets in my group. We have tests once a month and MRI once a year. I have been doing this for nearly a year. They want to track is the rest of our lives. I feel a lot better.

My friend June was had 2 back surgeries and was in rehab 10 months. 2 weeks after she came home she was diagnosed with Parkinson's. I visited her every other day and did her laundry.

My arthritis is getting worse. My hands hurt so the time. My left foot is in bad shape from it. The cartlidge is about gone in the 2 joints at the top and the larger joint is sliding over the smaller and flattereatning my arch. I have orthotics, special support shoes to keep the foot from over pronating and support socks (not hose but no-show socks) and get cortisone shots. It does help. My knee replacements are wonderful. No pain there.

I have kept up with reading all your posts.

Personals tomorrt. Have a great day.

ceejay52 02-02-2019 12:32 PM

I"m still not feeling 100% so I made an appointment with the doctor for Monday. He may not do anything but it will give me a piece of mind.to know that it is not in my lungs.
I'm going to my nephew's wife baby shower this afternoon
