Good Afternoon! We got up to rain and it has been raining all day. Busy day for me with a lot to count and post at church, then a P.E.O. meeting this afternoon. Bob is at church for practice then we will leave for Kolby’s orchestra concert in Sioux City. ”Gma,” thanks for sharing your rain. We are more than a little water logged around here. I know it’s a pain but if your nails don’t last I would go back for a redo and let the guy know you’re not happy. Can you request a specific tech at the shop? What do you take for allergies? I’ve taken generic Claritin for a long time and decided to try Zyrtec (sp?), but can’t say I can tell any difference. I hope your bp settles down! :crossed: That is scary! Zowie’s team won, 2-0! I was so happy for her! She played well with girls she had never seen before, let alone played with. We’ve had Ernie 10 1/2 years and the vet thought he was at least 1 1/2 when we got him. He was brought in as a stray but I think he was someone’s pet because he settled right in like he had always lived here. Ceejay, you saying you are the middle child makes me think of the t-shirts for kids that say, “I am the oldest child . . ., I am the middle child . . ., I am the youngest child.” My favorite is oldest “parents made the rules,” middle “I break the rules,” and the youngest, “what rules?” Won’t you miss having the cat around? Your trip sounds like a lot of fun with your family! I know nothing about the Dominican Republic. :o I like early flights but never sleep very well the night before. I need to change clothes and unload the dishwasher. Hope you’ve all had a good day! |
Good Afternoon! It’s a very windy day in my neighborhood but at least it isn’t raining. We made it to Kolby’s concert with a few minutes to spare last night. It was held in what was once an opera house and now hosts nationally known performers who put on shows open to the public. The concert was 4th-12th graders, combining choirs, orchestra, and marching bands. The school district has a new program where they are teaching students to play instruments by ear. The marching bands came down the aisles and circled the auditorium to play, while the drums lined up on the stage. Quite a performance of over 900 students in Sioux City’s music program. It was a fun concert! I have been home all day for a nice change of pace and have done some much needed cleaning. We went to vote right after lunch. We didn’t have to wait even though there were a lot of people there. One, older than I, man was giving the check in gal a hard time because he didn’t have his ID with him. That has been on tv and in the newspapers for weeks, “bring your ID!” We got our new garbage cans yesterday. The city council thinks they are going to solve the blowing trash/litter by mandating we use cans provided by the garbage haulers. Starting January 1, a truck will reach out and grab the cans dumping them into the truck. The problem is that the city council is preaching to the choir so to speak. There is no mandatory pickup by the garbage company; some people haul their own recyclables and garbage paying a much lower fee. The problem is the “you know who” that think the rules don’t apply to them. The cans are huge and ours won’t go in/out of the garage without moving the car or truck first. People are already just standing them out in front of their houses; looks pretty tacky imo. I have a few lunch dishes to wash and put away so better get to it. Have a nice evening! |
Jean
I have the trash container. I like them. I'm glad that the students are learning to play by ear. I had that ability first and then my dad taught me the lines and spaces but later had piano lessons. I can still play by ear but not as well as I did when I was younger. ------ I didn't like my mail today. I had a letter summoning me to jury duty starting on 11/29/18. I'l be on vacation then so they postponed it till 1/14/19. It's aleady getting dark. I don't like it. |
Good Morning! Cloudy morning and 23 degrees! Brrr! Time to get out the heated water bowl for the fuzz balls and the bird bath heater. I am leaving shortly for a much needed perm and have bell choir later this afternoon. Ceejay, we are used to just putting recyclables and garbage in bags for two different day pickups. The cans seem big and bulky to me but know we will have to use them. Our usual one bag per time won’t take up much space in the can. Jason took piano lessons when he was little and could play simple tunes by ear. I wish I could do that. We got rid of our piano; I would have more time to play now. I could always use the pianos at church but that means planning ahead. I did jury duty one time, shortest deliberating time n history, 30 seconds. It was an OWI and the guy was dumb enough to defend himself while the patrolman had the field test results. He failed every test! We found out afterwards, from the judge, it was his fourth OWI! We couldn’t figure out why he was still out on the loose. I need to get going but I will be back . . . . maybe. Have a wonderful Wednesday! |
Good morning! I have been neglecting my posting again. It is chilly and misty rainy today. Ick!! I have a load of clothes in the washer, have fixed my meds for the week and now am sitting here vegging. I am going to work on the blanket today. It won’t take long if I can do a section a day. I hope I have enough yarn to make her a pillow. We stayed up Tuesday and watched election results so yesterday I was dragging. For some reason I woke up in the middle of the night with abdominal cramps, but I put a heating pad on my back on low and went right off to sleep. Must have been gas I guess. I stayed in bed an extra hour this morning so I feel better. I am fixing chili and cornbread for dinner tonight since it is chilly and wet. It just sounded good. CeeJay: Have fun on your trip. I hear the beaches are nice there. We have been to Canada and Mexico, Jamaica, Haiti, St. Thomas, St Maartin. A lot of that was on cruises. My husband has been to all but one continent, Antartica. He made a suggestions awhile back about going someday and I told him, uhhh No!!! I got a jury duty letter a couple years ago, but because I have colon issues, my doctor wrote a letter and I was excused. I would have been ok to do it, but my boady is just too unpredictable. Jean: I’m glad your cat blanket finally got to you! When it started taking so long, I went to their website and saw they make them in Australia. I kind of did an, “Uh-oh.” We changed trash companies again and they have the huge trash cans. The trucks are automated. Oh that’s great that her team won. Sounds like the concert was nice. Did you see that the kid who hit and killed those girl scouts had been huffing right before he hit them? Disgusting. I saw today some guy threw smoke grenades into a bar then opened fire killing 12 people, including a police officer. What has become of decency? Well I hear the washer shut off so I better get going. Have a nice Thursday. |
Good Morning! There is a thin layer of clouds this morning so maybe the sun will peek through; it is brighter outside than the last few days. The weatherman just said chance of snow showers later this morning. Whatever happens, it was 19 degrees when I came downstairs this morning. Brrr! I need to run a couple errands this morning then we will leave for Ian’s game after lunch. I have a list to start Christmas shopping. Since two department stores in the mall have closed, I really don’t know where to go for conservative “old lady” clothes besides Penneys. They haven’t had much I would even try on the last few times I have been there. I need a new winter jacket! “Gma,” I made a pot of chili just before the guys started harvest and ended up pitching a leftover bowl. I am not good with leftovers :o and Bob doesn’t come home for lunch. The guys stop at small town restaurants or if Bob is close to a fast food place he will pick up food and take it to the field. A funny tidbit, Rich likes double hamburger patties but all the places just offer double cheeseburgers. He doesn’t like cheese so always orders a double cheeseburger without the cheese. They go to the same places often enough that the regular servers know the “no cheese” part of the order. I must admit I was surprised at the Iowa election results. We have a senator who says it like it is in regards to English as the official language and immigrants. He had a very vocal opponent as well as all the goodie two shoes against him but he won again. :cp: The governor was in a tight race but won also. I’m just glad it is over! Now we have a local school bond issue for a new building to take care of early childhood . . . ie “FREE” babysitting for you know who. :( Glad you feel better this morning! There are still some parents who control their children teaching them manners and right from wrong. Unfortunately they are becoming fewer and far between imo. I’m just thankful my grandchildren are on the right track! I need to get a load of laundry going, get dressed, and get started on my “to do” list. Hope you have a terrific Thursday and enjoy some sunshine! |
I went to the doctor yesterday to find out what was going on with my dizzy head. I have fluid behind my ear drum. He gave me predisone to take and one dose of that is doing wonders. He couldn't draw labs until today so I went back for that this afternoon. My veins are are hard to find and they roll around all over the place. She finally drew enough out of my hand.
After this I went to the gym and did an good work out. Walked 45 minutes on the treadmill and did some weight machines. I'm getting sore. I noticed that after I rode the recumbent bike that my lower back would be hurting. So I just walked today. Trying to get ready for vacation. I also went to the grocery store. and bought food for the rest of the week. I went to the mailbox yesterday and opened a piece of mail that stated I was being summoned to jury duty. ugh But I went on line and postponed it till January. It was schedule for when we were on vacation. Also my insurance company sent me a medical test that I completed this morning. It was one of those colorectal screening. I had a colonoscopy in 2014 and good enough not to repeat for another 10 years, but guess they wanted me to update. I need to schedule a mammogram. Jean Our forecast is for frozen percipitation tonight. I'm not ready for this stuff. Our coldest weather will be tomorrow night of 19 degrees. I thought about making a pot of chili but that thought didn't enter m mind once I was in the grocery store. I'm not sure of our election. I don't keep up with it that much anymore. GMA How are you coming on the afagan? (sp) |
Good Afternoon! It is another cloudy, gloomy, cold day in my neighborhood. It was 7 degrees when I came downstairs this morning but has warmed up to 17. :woohoo: I needed bread and milk so hit the grocery store first thing this morning. I’ve done a couple loads of laundry and ironed clothes for church tomorrow when I play bells. I just finished an envelope and check writing marathon for the gift shop. The buyer held invoices not due until December 1 and finally gave them to me — 25 of them! I hope accounting and the guy who signs them complains!!! That many is a lot of writing when I have to notate invoice numbers on the checks and duplicate invoice copies that I keep. We got enough snow that the leaves are glued together. Bob is hoping the breeze will warm the air and stir them up so he can mow and bag them. We were invited to a Legion fundraiser tonight but $35 a piece seemed a little much; instead we are going to a church Thanksgiving dinner in a little nearby town tomorrow. We have gone before and it is always so good. :T Ceejay, I’m glad you aren’t dizzy any more! I’ve never had that but know, from others, it’s not fun. I am good at thinking of food to fix when I don’t have enough time to do it. When I have time nothing ever sounds good. In the newspaper some election audit had people counting the ballots one at a time. The results were the same as what the machines showed. I have the vacuum sitting in the living room so guess it won’t go by itself. Hope you enjoy a nice rest of the day! |
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining but the wind is cold. We played two pieces at church this morning and were awesome according to comments afterwards. I was a little miffed because our minister didn’t acknowledge the veterans today. He is such a dud! Our previous pastor always did having them stand, then wives, girl friends, and moms along with them. We came home for an hour then headed off to the Thanksgiving dinner at another church. I ate too much but everything was so good. :T Another load of laundry is in the washer and I am going to read the Sunday paper next. I see there are more ads than usual and “Black Friday” seems to be on the top of most. Craft stores have Christmas sales going on now!
I need to change clothes, read the paper, and pick up the clutter on the counter. Hope you enjoy a nice day! |
I'm not looking forward to the prediction of the over night weather. Snow and very low temperatures. It' s like having January weather the mid part of November.
Church this morning but I didn't stay for book club. Miley was out of cat food so I stopped by the super WM center in Springfield and picked up cat food and a few other things. I got in a cleaning mood last night and finally cleaned my home office. I can actually see the top of my desk. I put the toys in the closet and moved some other things into another closet. I also got rid of some stuff. I'm wanting to bring my bicycle that has been in the garage back into the house for when I can't get to PF. I like to exercise at night cause it tires me enough to where I can go to sleep faster. Jean I was glad that we had several veterans at church this morning. Our pastor/minister asked that all veterans stand. And after the children's sermon that was taught by the pastor this morning took the children to each and had them shake their hand and thank them. We all applauded. Didn't go to book club this afternoon |
Good Morning! It is breezy, cold, and cloudy in my neighborhood this morning. Add snowflakes floating down and I’m glad to be inside! The fuzz balls are snuggled in their house coming out only long enough to eat. I’ve done some laundry and spent some time cleaning in the basement. What a pit! I want the guy to come and install an outlet on my kitchen island, but I have to make a path to the electrical box first! After lunch I need to take my pile of checks to the hospital then write one more when the buyer figures out what the credit amount should be. No mail today and we didn’t get our newspaper this morning. That makes me so disgusted! It’s not that tough to deliver newspapers. . .been there and done that when Jason had a paper route! Ceejay, hope the snow bypassed you last night! I get mad at myself for letting things accumulate and then have more to sort through or clean up. I need to make a cleaning schedule and stick to it. That’s in my next life maybe. ;) I think it was a great idea for the children to shake hands and thank the veterans at church. :cp: Bob will be home soon for lunch so guess I had better check the refrigerator for leftovers. Hope you are enjoying a marvelous Monday! |
I have not fallen off the earth. lol I just got caught up in life as they say. I had a doctor appt this afternoon and I think I figured out what is going on with me. It’s an easy fix and I can’t believe we didn’t clue in on the symptoms. I am very dehydrated and need to take in a whole lot more fluids. So we shall see how things go.
Jack should be home in a half hour or so and we’ll have dinner in awhile. I’m sitting here drinking water and watching the first Harry Potter movie. It is cold here today, around 35 or so. My doctor shook my hand and commented on how warm my hands were. lol We have had quite a bit of rain the last few days, but I hope we get some nice sunny ones soon. Cloudy days are depressing. CeeJay: Get your ear problem fixed up as you sure don’t want to fly having those problems. My afghan is coming along. I had a booboo row and kind of made a mess of it, but got it fixed now and moving along. Jean: What is it about cheese on hamburgers?? Sonic does the same thing as does Mcds. I am not a huge cheese on burger fan either so I understand. I sure hope your farmers are getting their harvesting finished up.. I keep seeing snow all over up in the north. Wonder what Thanksgiving will be like? You all have a good Tuesday! |
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining but the breeze is cold! It was 5 degrees early this morning but has warmed up to 35. The weatherman just said it feels like 23! Whatever, it’s not a stand around outside kind of day! We counted at church today with a lot of different things in the mix. Memorials, people are starting to sign up for Christmas blankets, tools, apportionment payments, and poinsettias, friendship fund, wedding payments, and building rental, all have to be individually notated, checks copied, and then posted to member accounts. I was glad I didn’t have to be anywhere else today! I finally gave up and called for a doctor appointment. I’m tired of not sleeping well, the round of stuffy head, runny nose, and the cough is starting up again. I don’t feel that bad, it just doesn’t go away. When I checked in the first thing the receptionist did was hand me a mask. I’m glad I don’t have to wear one of those for very long. I was the only one in the waiting room. When I left there were two guys waiting and both had masks on. I did get an antibiotic to take care of a pending sinus infection. I need to go pick it up in a few minutes. “Gma,” I just figured you were busy knitting up a storm! ;) I know that dehydration is a problem in nursing homes; my stepmom says they are trying to drown her because they are always pushing her to drink more. Hope more fluids fix you right up. My problem is the more I drink the more trips to the bathroom! I don’t mind cheese on hamburgers but like it melted. McDs just puts the cheese slice on and hands it over, like most of the fast food places. Bob finished harvest on Halloween but there is a lot left between here and Sioux Falls. There is a farmer on our way to Sioux City that almost always finishes his in the spring. What skiff of snow we had is gone. :cp: I need to go get my meds and dream up something for supper. I think it might be Bob’s night to cook! Have a nice rest of the day! |
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining again today and it is 44 degrees right now, up from 20 early this morning. The weatherman says it will be 50 at least tomorrow. :cheer: We’ll see how well that goes. This morning I went to get my nails done and then a trip to WM. Ian asked for a big bag of candy (any kind chocolate) and a big package of AA batteries for his birthday. I know I will be making his favorite Snickers salad for his birthday so put those in the cart along with cans of cat food and tp. Today was my lunch bunch so am home for a short time until bell practice. I need to change clothes and head to church. Enjoy the rest of your day! |
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and it is considerably warmer today! I’m hoping the snow will melt on the deck but at 30 degrees that won’t happen. Been to church and out for breakfast, such as it was. I ordered a “mini” breakfast of one egg, half meat, half hash brown potatoes, and one slice of toast. I always order bacon and request it to be well done and crispy; the waitress said that is the only kind of bacon she will eat. I think someone else got my order since I got two slices of toast, a larger portion of scrambled egg, and pretty much raw bacon. I didn’t eat it and Bob pointed it out to the waitress when she brought bill. She offered to reduce the bill but he said no, just tell the cook it cost you your tip, which it didn’t. I’ve had that happen before but never this bad, I should know better! I’ve read the paper and need to clear off the island so I can see what might be lurking in the pile. I really should vacuum if I get that ambitious, then again maybe tomorrow. Hope you are enjoying a relaxing, sunny day! |
