Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and it is getting warmer; the weatherman says 90s towards the end of the week! I skipped church this morning and do feel slightly guilty. Our bell choir director and another very talented retired music teacher played a duet with the bells. I just plain don’t like the way the minister runs the service and I didn’t feel like explaining why Bob wasn’t with me. *sigh* Enough said about that! I’ve done another load of laundry and put away some from yesterday. I should vacuum but maybe tomorrow. Bob has seen a “new” orphan coming to eat late at night just when he is ready to bring the food in and go to bed. It is a very spooky large calico cat he said. Well, it came early last night while I was still up. Ernie is an 18# cat and this cat is every bit as big, if not a little bigger. It is HUGE! I am surprised a female would be this big. She would eat a few bites then sit up and look around. One of the kittens was here when she came but backed away fast so I wondered if maybe it was sitting on a step waiting to come back once the big cat left. We have had an explosion in the dove population and there is a baby cardinal coming. I love to listen to the doves “coo.”

The dishwasher is finished so will unload that next. My kitchen smells like vinegar because I just cleaned the coffee maker. Hope you enjoy a nice rest of the day!

Good afternoon. Been a busy week so far. Had a dr appt today and we discussed several things, one of which is the colon issues I am having. He changed my med to half and I go back in two weeks to see if it made it any better. If not, he’ll just change it altogether. He’s a nice young man and he’s a third year so won’t have him long. Hopefully, they can fix the problem. Had blood and urine work and first of hep b shot. Very sore arm at the moment.

I went yesterday and got my nails and toes done and tomorrow it’s hair day. Jack took several things to dry cleaners to get pressed, gonna drop off a postal hold card, and Thursday it is packing and cleaning the inside of the car. Jack’s gonna wash it Saturday and get a haircut. We should be set to go then.

Jean: Your kitties will have to keep you company while Bob is gone. Butterscotch was a big cat. He was really long bodied, but he was a heavy cat. I just think it’s so sad kids aren’t safe to do anything by themselves anymore. Looks like the weather is going to be horrible in KC. They are saying mid to upper 90’s the whole time. Hopefully we’ll be in the shade during the ballgame. It’s a week from today.

Well, need to get some chores done. Have a good afternoon.

Good Afternoon! It is sunny, NO wind, and warming up this afternoon. I took mail out to the mailbox and came in to lower the thermostat so the air would come on. It was hotter than I expected! I ran a couple errands and stopped by the grocery store this morning. I have spent the rest of the time sorting through greeting cards. I went to a garage sale several years ago and bought a bunch of cards thinking I could use them for church. In rereading them, some of the verses just aren’t what I would want to say so am giving a pile to the SOS store. I have such a hodge podge I couldn’t find an appropriate card in a hurry. They are now organized and in a shoe box! Yay! Bob is on his way home but not sure exactly when he will get here. That depends on if Jason had work stops along the way.

“Gma,” I hope changing the med will fix the problem! I’m not sure but think I am due for a tetanus shot in Sept. If I remember right they make my arm sore. Are you leaving for KC on Saturday, for the whole week? I hope there are no storms while you are gone. The tornadoes that hit Iowa a week or so ago were a surprise, thunderstorms were predicted. I am really spooked about the missing U of Iowa student who vanished. Supposedly, according to FB, Iowa has had 40 missing people reports in the last few days. I just heard about a local situation where several people were hanging by the pop machines at WM. The gal noticed them when she went in and they were still there a half hour later when she walked out. She turned right around and went back into the store and asked for an escort to her car. The manager called police who promptly came and questioned the group. It seems they all had appropriate IDs then all left in individual cars. Screwy deal imo. Maddy walks home, usually alone, after school. Kolby too. She and Kolby will be in different schools this year and she stays for choir and swing choir practice. I told Beth to get her a can of Mace and to carry her house key as a weapon, with it, ready to use. I hate to scare her but rather be safe than sorry. Once Will has regular hours he will pick the kids up. Beth takes them to school in the morning.

Bob just called leaving Tea so will be home in a couple hours. Guess I will be in charge of supper. Enjoy the rest of a terrific Tuesday!

Good evening. We are sitting here watching the Cubs. Not sure the new pitcher’s gonna be any better than the idiots we have now. We are a great team with good pitchers that really stink this year. Frustrating when you’re a big fan, but then the umpires can’t call a game worth anything.

I went and got my hair cut and colored today and that’s about it. I came home and fixed sloppy joes for dinner. I am making uncomplicated stuff until we leave. I haven’t started lists or anything else so have to get hopping on that. I have my nails and hair done so need to get car cleaned and packing going.

Jean: We decided to stay in St Louis a couple days extra just to relax. I’ll probably talk Jack into going shopping at this nice mall they have. We’re not going to be in KC long. We just wanted a few days as they’ve been asking us to visit every year since we went on a cruise with them. Unfortunately, it’s going to ve very hot there. Hope Bob got home ok and Jason stays going to what I think of as motorcycle old west. lol

Well, I’d better go. Have a good evening.

Good Morning! The sun is shining and it is a cool 65 degrees outside, heading up to high 80s. I went to the dentist first thing this morning. She likes to visit so it is never a quick in and out, it was just a cleaning today. “$102 please.” I really need to vacuum and dust so will sneak up on that after lunch.

“Gma,” you are going to be all spiffy for your trip with nails, hair do, and new clothes! I hope the weather isn’t too hot; our humidity is way down so maybe it will be there also. A crop plane has been flying over our house and I hate it! They fly so low it sounds like they are going to land in the back yard. One hit electric wires south of town last week. It didn’t crash so the pilot was lucky. The same people seem to camp in the same area that Jason does. The guy right next door comes alone from Toronto and meets up with another guy from Michigan. Bob said they sat at a picnic table and drank beer all night, still there the next morning when Bob and Jason were getting ready to leave. Most everyone is in bed and it’s quiet by 10:00. There is no tv reception so people sit around camp fires and visit. Jason came back with Bob, then he and Amanda were riding their motorcycles back out with another couple. They were taking the “scenic” route, not the interstate. I try not to think about it!

Bob will be home soon for a lunch of BLT sandwiches and leftover potato salad. Hope you enjoy a terrific Tuesday!

Good evening. We had chicken and noodles tonight as today was primary election day for us. My chicken was all ready so when we got back, I dumped the noodles in, stirred it and put crockpot lid back on. Fifteen minutes later, time to eat. It was miserably hot here today. Glad I didn’t have to be out in it much.

Jack is snoozing in his recliner. I’ll wake him up in a half hour or so so he can watch the Cubs game and then be able to sleep tonight. I’ve just been sitting here reading while he naps with the heating pad on my knee. It has been very sore for about 4 days now. Feels like someone took a knife and just sliced across the front of it. It’s miserable when it does this and no meds help it. It just has to go away by itself.

I have my lists all made out so tomortow morning, I’ll get packing done. Well, at least as much as I can. Saturday it’s haircut for him, car washed and shopping for whatever snacks he wants.

Jean: I heard some bunch of liberal nuts are going to show up at the rally. Odds are saying they’ll get their behinds kicked by the bikers. lol We had people swarming all over us at the polling place trying to get us to vote for their candidates. Of course it was the opposite party and like I said this is a primary. BLTs and potato salad sounds wonderful. Jack won’t eat either unfortunately. I have some beautiful beefsteak tomatoes I need to eat up before we leave. Maybe that’s an idea for lunch. When do the grandkids go back to school? Ours start back Monday. Bet Thomas will feel weird not having to get up early to get ready. I felt almost like I was playing hooky when the ds started back after I graduated

Hope you have a nice evening.

Good Afternoon! The sun has been shining all day and it’s 88 degrees as I’m typing. It’s been an interesting day. I started the day at Bob’s office filling out paperwork to switch some life insurance around. Lots of questions which the agent knew the answers before I could answer. The locker called Bob and our “1/4 cow” was ready to be picked up. The locker is in a small town where Jason’s in-laws live a half hour away. On my way home from the office I stopped by the gift shop and picked up the gift shop money. At the locker Bob had to back up to a raised freezer door; I got out thinking I would help load the coolers we took along. He didn’t back close enough so got back in the pickup to move a little closer. When he got out he thought he had put it in park but actually stopped at reverse! It rammed into very thick board before he could get back in and stop it. Talk about exciting! A guy dressed in a winter coat and heavy gloves put the meat in our coolers for us. He said it was below 0 where he works. I didn’t think about it at the time but afterwards Bob said how thankful he was that I wasn’t behind the pickup. Me too! The tail lights work but the covers are cracked and possibly the tailgate isn’t lined up like it should be. He has an appointment with the body shop on Monday! I’m just glad he did it and not me! We unloaded the meat into the freezer, I put in a load of laundry, and counted the gift shop money.

“Gma,” I hope your knee is feeling better today. I imagine you have been busy packing and checking your list to be sure you don’t forget anything. Bob always laughs at my list and says whatever I forget I can go buy. The schools are starting 22nd and 23rd but I can’t remember which is which. Our free giveaway at church is the 11th. I miss the fall workshop days when we would have lunch together and visit with people we don’t see very often during a “normal” day.

I need to put my books and computer away for another week. Then it will be time to think about something for supper. I think it is Bob’s night to cook! Hope you have had a nice day!

Afternoon ladies. It is hotter that a five alarm hot wing here. We got up at 6 and Jack showered and grabbed breakfast then went and got his haircut, picked up some trip snacks and ice, and cash at the ATM. He came home and we gathered up stuff and cleaned and washed the car, came home, ate a bite of lunch and sat down to watch the Cubs game. It’s almost over and Jack is going to run get our dinner order at McAlisters in a few minutes. We’ll eat then I’ll help Jack match shirts and shorts, (he’ll screw it up if I don’t) and then he can finish. I am all packed. All we have is last minute stuff to pack up in the morning.

Good thing is reduce meds fixed intestinal issues, but he’s going to have to add something to bring me back in line. Bad thing is the knee is giving me real problems. I am glad I have the scooter because walking is very painful. Weird because I haven’t hit it or anything, but it feels like I whacked the front of it.

Jean: Oh gosh how horrible. Glad no one got hurt. When Jack was in high school, his parents raised a calf and a pig every year then took it to slaughter. I guess the year he was a senior, they put the pig in the truck and it had a heart attack! The slaughter house won’t cut a dead animal so they had to butcher it themselves and he said they didn’t know what they were doing. lol I told him that was way before looking up how to do it on the internet. Glad you didn’t have to load the meat. Reminds me of the Lucy episode where she accidently bought a whole cow and tried to hide it from Ricky in the furnace! So was it popcorn or dinner out when Bob cooks?

I’ll try to post when I remember. Have a good one.

Good Evening! We got up to some much needed rain, the rain gauge said .17”. We attended an interesting funeral this morning. It was held in a Lutheran Church with our own Methodist minister doing the service. The youngest son and his wife are members of our church while none of the other children live here. His mom, the deceased, was raised a Methodist but evidently married a Lutheran. The church is getting a new pastor who doesn't move here until next week. The service had some obvious Lutheran ritual in it which I thought was nice. What we found interesting was that when the family was ushered out, a whole section of people across the aisle stood up. I know some are Catholic so wondered if they do that at their funerals. We had Lutherans, Methodists, and others on our side but no one stood up. The lady was our neighbor when we first moved to this house and I taught with her son. After the lunch we came home to me vacuuming carpet and Bob shampooing the same. Now have to put odds ‘n ends back in place once the carpet is dry. A good job to have done! Bob is going on another tractor ride tomorrow so I have the day to catch up on some half started but not finished projects.

“Gma,” I’m glad your innards have settled down and hope the rest will follow suit. I’m sorry about your knee! Maybe you have a torn meniscus. Bob’s surgeon said that can happen at any time without falling or hitting it. Does the weather affect your knee? I could never eat beef or pork from an animal that I “knew” on the farm. I could be a vegetarian with no problem! Butchering one would be so gross but I suppose they did what they had to. I remember my grandma chopping chicken heads off and they would keep running around the yard. Yuck! We have 99#s of hamburger plus steaks and roasts. I have a feeling we will be sharing with the kids. Bob ended up grilling hamburgers last night. We’ve been eating lunch later for some reason so really aren’t hungry when it’s supper time. I don’t like to eat late and then go to bed any more either. Enjoy your trip to Kansas!

I have a few things I can put back in place so will do that much tonight. Hope you enjoy a nice evening and have a super Sunday!

Good Morning! We’ve had some more rain this morning, but I am not complaining. We had an exciting wake up at 4 AM, to the tune of the tornado siren! My phone alert said high straight line winds were on the way. Of course with it being dark we couldn’t see anything outside. The siren had a different pitch than it does during the Saturday test. It finally quit so we went back to bed. We got up expecting a yard full of leaves and branches but it looks like it did yesterday thank goodness. We’ve never had the siren go off before; that kind of excitement we can do without! The sun is peeking out and Bob is getting ready to leave for his tractor ride. It is a short one around a small lake an hour or so south of here. I have some laundry to do, birthday cards to write for church, and a box to finish getting ready for the SOS store. Have a nice day!

Good afternooon. Like our gps says, “We have reached our destination,” and boy is it hot here. I called my friend and they should be at the hotel around 4:30 or so. I think they are taking us out for bbq tonight. Like living in Memphis we don’t get bbq. Our room is really nice. The hotel is brand new. It opened in May. Jack ran out to Chick fila to get us a sandwich. It is right around the corner.

We have a big outlet mall across the street so maybe we’ll get some shopping in who knows? The ballgame is tomorrow night. We’ll then spend Wednesday with them and go home Thursday. Jack didn’t have anymore vacation except a couple days, one of which we have to use to go get me a new military ID card when we get back.

Jean: Jack has torn the meniscus in both his knees. I have a torn ACL. Yes the weather drives them crazy. Boy you should have seen the motorcycles coming over here. I kept wondering if they were going to the rally. They were mostly in groups of 4-8. We saw them almost the whole time driving. I told Jack our carpets must be shampooed when we get back. They need it badly. When my bff’s husband died, we went into the area where the food was supposed to be and all that was left was crumbs and her step daughter was a caterer so there had been a spread. We ended up going to a restaurant with a bunch of people and just paying our own way. It was this iny dinky bar restaurant and everyone was scattered all over and boy was it tight seating. Kind of miserable. We went there because it had been her husband’s favorite.

Have a good Monday!

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining off and on today but it’s a nice day. My day started with taking the car in for an oil change followed by an insurance physical here at home. Bob did the same a couple weeks ago with a male nurse but I asked for a lady. He said I would be done in 15 minutes at the most . . . two hours later I was done. She admitted she likes to visit so got off the subject a few times. I had to do a memory test where she showed me 10 words that I had to repeat after her and then use in a sentence. We did this twice. The next thing was to copy a math drawing which was easy except I am not an artist so mine was not perfect. Oh well. I had to subtract 7 starting at 100 six times. We went back to the words and I had to repeat as many as I could remember; I got 8 out of the 10 which she said was above average. Pages of health type questions which were obvious since I was walking and talking without help. She had a see through scale and when I commented on it she said she was required to have one that would weigh up to 400#s. Yikes! She took blood and I think I must have drank a gallon of water before I could give her that sample. The cup had a temperature line and I asked why. She said it was so she knew it was current and not someone else’s taken earlier. It was an interesting two hours! I had checks to take to the hospital after lunch and now have laundry in the washer and dryer.

“Gma,” I hope the weather is bearable for the game and the Cubs win! Did you visit the mall? There has been one death at Sturgis, the guy is from Sioux City and was driving a side by side which around here is a little bigger than a golf cart but not a motorcycle. He and the other guy had seatbelts on but no helmets. Beth and Will know him and the obit talked about all he was involved in being such a nice guy. Sad.

The dryer is buzzing so need to keep moving. Hope you are enjoying a terrific Tuesday!

Good morning! Jack is snoozing on the bed and I am just sitting around. We are heading over to our friends in 15 minutes or so. We didn’t get to bed until midnight and got up at 6 AM. It was so very hot and humid last night at the game. The lady that worked our section was so sweet. She brought us ice wraped in towels to keep us cool and bent over backwards to help us.

Don’t know if I am going to get any shopping in or not. We leave tomorrow morning and then will spend two days in St Louis then head home.

Jean: Cubs won 5/0. I met tons of people from Iowa. The couple that sat next to me said they lived about 5 miles south of Des Moines. There were a ton of Cubs fans here and still are as they play one more game here tonight. I didn’t realize it is only about 3 hours or so from KC to Des Moines. Most people knew where you live. The gal next to me told me all about your area of Iowa, which tickled me. Glad your physical came out ok.

Have a great Wednesday!!!!

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining brightly and the temperature was 86 when I came home after a haircut a half hour ago; it will be in the high 80s for the next few days. I’ve went to have my nails done then went to my lunch bunch. The restaurant was very busy which was a nice change.

“Gma,” there was a couple from here at the game too! Her picture was on FB with several other people that I didn’t know. Then a gal who was in Beth’s class and lives in KC, was there and added to the post. We have a lot of “natives” who live in that area. Did the lady who told you all about us say we are number one in diversity? They just advertised for another kindergarten teacher, nine sections and over 200 kids in that grade alone. We’ll see about the physical results if I get the “all clear” or a rider attached. Safe travels to St. Louis!

Time to think about something for supper. Hope you enjoyed a wonderful Wednesday!

Good Afternoon! It is hot and humid in my neighborhood today! The sun has disappeared but don’t think there is rain in the forecast. I started my day at a garage sale across the street. The lady was raised there and her dad was a rock collector with all the tools and equipment needed to work with rocks. When we first moved here Beth was five and they had a garage sale. She wanted to go in the worst way and I finally said she could go but not to touch anything! She came home and said she found the most beautiful rock for a quarter. I gave her the quarter and away she went, coming home with a pretty little polished rock! So this morning I went to see what rocks they still had and came home with several. If the grandkids don’t want them then I will display them in a dish in my hutch. They have a little schnauzer who was barking up a storm in the house. I asked if I could take it for a walk so I did my good deed for the day. I was hoping she would poop in a certain yard because their dog always pooped in ours, but she didn’t. I ordered a set of dishes which came a few days ago. They are larger than what I have now and don’t fit in my cupboards like my old ones. They were half price and free shipping but for a supposedly top brand the painting/design makes me think they are seconds or rejects. Not sure what I’m going to do about that. I’d like to send them back!

I brought the vacuum downstairs this morning so guess maybe I should use it and put it away again. Have a nice rest of the day!
