Steel Magnolias #21

Good afternoon. Jack was off today so went at 7 AM to get oil changed in Mariner and the tires rotated. He had the first appointment of the day along with two other guys. Took 2 hours! From what we can glean when Jack raised the roof along with the two other guys, the service manager quit and took all the service techs with him! The new guy has only been there a week and they had to hire all new mechanics. Well these dimwits have no organization and they were letting walkins ahead of Jack and the other two. Jack told him he has one more chance to get the desk guys in order or we are taking our business to another dealership. We moved to this one because where we bought the MKS doesn't do anything but walk ins on Saturdays, which is ridiculous imo and the one where we bought the Mariner is about 30 miles away. This one is only about 5 miles down the road. So we shall see if he can get it in ship shape by the time we have to take the MKS in the next time.

I got up sick as a dog this morning. I woke up around 2 soaked to the gills and feeling sick. I went to the bathroom and back to bed, then when Jack got up I had gone back to sleep and he didn't wan to disturb me. I got up about an hour after him and came downstairs, got in the recliner and when he went to the dealer, went back to sleep. I woke up feeling a lot better so don't know what it was, but I had one heck of a sinus headache again. The pollen here is really high because the flowering trees are blooming. Jack and I sit around sneezing and runny noses. I can't find an allergy medicine that doesn't make me either sleepy or dizzy or raise my bp. I have tried pretty much everything and I don't want to go through a bunch of tests just for them to tell me I am allergic to grass, dust, flowers, etc. It just looks like we may have a bad pollen year this year is all.

Jack was so funny this morning. He asked me if it was ok to buy the 2018 addition of the baseball statistics game he has. I said, "Hey, it's your money go for it." I then ask the burning ??? how much. $210! Geez for a game? I guess you have to pay for each ballpark cd, each manager of each team cd, etc separate. I sure hope he had fun and next year the teams keep the same managers!!!

Hotdogs from Sonic for dinner tonight. I was going to fix hamburger casserole but I forgot to take out the ground beef and it didn't thaw so will have it tomorrow. I hope I remember the recipe. I got it off a frozen pie shell years ago and used to fix it when the kids were still at home. They really liked it.

Sandy: Hope you are up and around by now.

Jean: It is cooler today but tomorrow it is supposed to be in the 70's. I have only been in Costos once years ago. Since it is just the two of us, we don't need Sams anymore. I don't know the exact cost, but it used to be flat rate, but now they have a rate depending on what services you want. At least they did the last time I looked. The river is down flood level wise here but it is still pretty high for general. Hopefully we won't have tons of spring rains.

Hope you all are going to have a nice Easter with family. I sent the boys their cards and hope they have a nice holiday. I sure do miss them both.

Have a nice weekend.

Jean 03-31-2018 11:23 AM

Good Morning! The wind is blowing 30 mph and it feels like 14 degrees outside. :brr: Crazy weather! Beth and her family will be here for lunch and the kids requested pizza, from a local pizza place. They don’t like all the “extra” goodies so I am debating about adding some to my own slice. ;) They are going to the other side of the family tomorrow so will most likely have the typical Easter dinner there. We are having ham!

“Gma,” Thank you for starting the new thread! :cp: There are people here who think appointments don’t count, try to budge in, or get obnoxious when told otherwise. It definitely is a culture thing here. I would probably pay that much for a game if I really liked it. With my luck the iPad would crash and burn up the program. The mahjong game I really liked quit doing updates so I finally dumped it. I can’t remember if I paid for it or not, but know it wasn’t much if I did. Did you try the new pickle drink at Sonic? That doesn’t sound good to me at all. I am surprised Tom doesn’t encourage Thomas to keep in touch with you.

Not much newsy from here but wanted to wish you all a blessed Easter. :easter2:

gma22 03-31-2018 03:38 PM

Good afternoon. It is sunny and warm here today. Tomorrow and Monday back to rain. I have been cleaning the downstairs today, but Jack is snoozing in his recliner so will have to wait to dust. I am going to to the kitchen tomorrow.

I am fixing sloppy joe pie for dinner. Hopefully Jack will like it. I thought it sounded good. Jack doesn’t like bell pepper so I am putting in a small amount of chopped celery instead. I have to decide whether to mix the cheese in the sloppy joe mix or sprinkle on top before I put the top crust on.

I have been debating about whether I want to wear hose for T’s graduation and I think I am going to. I bought 4 pr in different colors and I think I may wear the white ones. I bought dress sandals and I just think I want to wear hose.

Jean: Brrr :yikes: sounds pretty cold your way. We are in the 70’s. Must be warm out as all the cars outside are making vroom noises like they’re fooling with them. I hope you have nice visit with family. It will be just us two this weekend.

Have a blessed Easter everyone.

gma22 04-01-2018 11:20 AM

Good morning. It is a warm and cloudy day right now. We are expecting more rain. Hope you are having a nice Easter with family.

Jack is up showering and I need to get the downstairs dusting done. I am leaving the kitchen until tomorrow as we are having spaghetti tonight and it splatters everywhere on the stove. I have used lids and everything else to prevent it, but it still does it.

We are very frustrated with ITunes at the moment. Jack tried to go in and delete one of my apps to reinstall it so the new IOS would work and they redid it and now they have no applications tab in the library to delete or move around your apps. We spent a good hour trying and gave up. I sent Apple an email about it so we shall see.

Quiet day here today. The game comes on at noon so we will be watching it, but other than that nothing else going on.

My sloppy joe pie was a hit. Jack said, "This tastes pretty good!" The only thing was you couldn't taste the cheese.

Have a good day.

Jean 04-01-2018 03:37 PM

Happy Easter! The sun is shining but the wind is blowing and it’s cold outside! We have spent a quiet day at home, didn’t even go to church. For some reason Bob’s knee has bothered him more yesterday and today so he sits for awhile, then paces around, back to sitting, and now is taking a nap. I’ve done a couple loads of laundry and fixed a ham dinner. Next on my to do list is to count the gift shop money and get it ready to deposit tomorrow.

“Gma,” good luck getting your iTunes straightened out. I hate it when technology things don’t work right. :hyper: I never know how to fix it. I don’t remember if I shared this or not but when we got home from Maui I had three weeks worth of money and paperwork from the gift shop. I did each week separately like I always do. Somehow I screwed up the spreadsheet so the columns would’t add in either direction. Bob had bought a laptop for the office at a little computer shop here in town, so he called and asked the guy if he would take a look at mine. After explaining all the workings of a spreadsheet and fixing mine, the nice young man told me I should really take a computer class which would include doing a spreadsheet. There is no such thing here in town unless I would take a college class and that’s not going to happen. I warned him first thing that I knew enough to be dangerous when it came to technology. I think we would like your sloppy joe pie. Would you share the recipe?

I need to get my laptop revved up and count the gift shop money. Hope you enjoy the rest of a blessed day! :bunny2:

gma22 04-02-2018 01:18 PM

Good morning! It is a bit cooler today but still nice. We had a quiet day yesterday.

Finish up the kitchen today. Just gonna have plain ole hamburgers tonight. Gonna do a lazy day today.

I noticed it snowed in NY so they had to postpone their opening day baseball game. So much for spring baseball.

Jean: Itunes is still a mess. They did an upgrade and dropped their application saying you can do it on your device, but you can’t. Jack uninstalled it and installed an earlier version so we shall see. Hopefully Bob’s knee will feel better soon. Jack taught me Excel and when I need to do something I don’t know he shows me, but I just use it for my budget. I take it the gift shop doesn’t have a backup for you. Brother!

Sloppy Joe Pie
heat oven to 450 degrees

1 box Pillsbury pie crust
1 lb hamburger
1 onion chopped
1/2 cup celery or green pepper chopped finely (your taste preference)
1 C finely grated cheese your choice (I used colby /jack)
3/4 cup ketchup
1 tsp yellow mustard
1/2 tsp garlic powder
3 Tbl brown sugar

Remove pie crusts from fridge and let warm up about 15 minutes. In the meantime, heat oven to 450, brown burger, onion and other veg in skillet. Drain off grease. Add ketchup, mustard, garlic powder and brown sugar to meat mix and stir until blended well. Once it starts bubbling, cook on simmer about 20 minutes. As mixture is cooking, place a crust in pie plate, trim edges, prick bottom and sides and bake in oven 5-10 minutes until just slightly brown. (this helps with bottom crust not being gummy when meat is baked in it.) When meat mix is done and crust is out of the oven, fill crust with meat, sprinkle with cheese then run finger with water on it around crust edge so top crust will stick since you can’t flute it. Place top crust on, vent it a couple places and bake 15 minutes or until top crust is brown.

* Now pie recipes you don’t grease your pie plate, but with this I used a little Pam to keep bottom crust from sticking.

Jean 04-02-2018 08:41 PM

Good Evening! It’s been another gloomy cold day in my neighborhood. Rain and/or snow is to come during the night and into tomorrow. We are on the edge so may not get anything. We had over $10,000 to count and record this morning at church, and we balanced on the first try. The office was closed because they follow the school calendar, and there was no school today. Stupid imo! Anyhow, my computer was up to snuff for a nice change of pace. It was peaceful and quiet in my room, except the phone rang nonstop out in the main office. I stopped at the bank afterwards then dropped checks off at the hospital. Tomorrow is Bob’s surgery which cancels out my going to the annual hospital volunteer luncheon. We are supposed to be trained or updated on hospital policies and the latest in health care. I will get a written copy to sign that I read it. I asked if I could have carry out on the lunch, was just kidding. It is held in a church across the street from the hospital. He has to be at the hospital at 9, surgery is at 10:30, and when he asked when he could go home the nurse said probably around 2/2:30. It will be a long “waiting” time.

“Gma,” I know you are excited to have the baseball season starting! :D Do you follow any team besides the Cubs? I remember installing iTunes on my laptop. I sure hope it never disappears! The previous gift shop treasurer had the spreadsheet and just emailed it to me when I took over. I can keep the books any way I like. They are never audited which I find strange. Each day the volunteer director (my boss) makes a copy of the daily log sheet, which is identifying the item sold, price, and whether it is cash, payroll deducted, or a credit card charge. She leaves $20 in the register then rest of the money, along with a daily copy go in an envelope marked for that date. The employees have to sign a separate sheet with the amount to be deducted from their pay. At the end of the week that sheet goes to the accountant, a copy to the volunteer director, and I get a copy. I pick up the five envelopes and invoices to pay and come home to count the money for deposit, and pay invoices. We have different buyers who are more into decorating than when I first started, so the whole process is more involved with more vendors, etc. We didn’t take take credit cards until a couple years ago. Thanks for the recipe, I am going to fix it! :T

Bob wants to watch the final basketball game. I have enjoyed watching them too, mainly to see some of the uniforms that look like babies sleepers and the goofy hairstyles on some of the players.

Enjoy the rest of your evening!

gma22 04-03-2018 07:50 AM

Good morning. Going to be near 80 here today but we are supposed to get rain. That will just make it sticky feeling. Ugh.

Nothing exciting going on today. I need to get some housework done and think about a couple knitting projects I can start. One is for this cool round basket. I bought a kit but have to look for it.

I ordered a bag for my yarn and supplies from the mother of a FB friend several months ago, but haven’t heard from her so guess I better check to see if she’s making it. I haven’t paid for it as she didn’t want the money up front.

Jean: Hope all goes well today. Waiting is the worst and rarely comfortable. Just take a lot to keep you busy. Just a big thanks for yesterday. I appreciate you being a friend.

Have a good day.

Jean 04-03-2018 01:29 PM

Good Morning! Bob is in surgery and I am passing the time in his room. The hospital has WiFi which is nice. We were getting snow early this morning and coming down hard when we came to the hospital.

“Gma,” I could sure some of your 80 degrees about now! This weather is something else, and it’s supposed to be the same off and on through next weekend. I got text messages from a nurse during and after surgery which was nice. I can’t imagine sitting and waiting through a long surgery. I think this was maybe 20 minutes from start to finish, if that. I brought some magazines and a card catalog to order cards for the gift shop, plus a book and my iPad. I’m not sure how long he will have to stay; until he eats and pees I suppose. The doctor just came in and said all went well and he will be sore for about a week. I’m hoping he will sleep good tonight because he’s tossed ‘n turned quite a bit the last few nights.

Hope you enjoy a sunny warm day!

Jean 04-04-2018 11:45 AM

Good Morning! The sun is shining, NO wind blowing, and it was 6 degrees when I came downstairs this morning. :brr: I slept better last night than I have in a long time. I knew I was tired but not that tired. Sitting around the hospital must be more tiring than I realized. I have Bob parked on the couch with his ice machine; he says he has no pain just some stiffness. Bob thinks the ice machine will make a nice minnow bucket. I have organized all the hospital clutter as much as I can, and a load of laundry is in the washer.

Sandy, hope the new knee is working well and you are moving around easier. :)

The washer should be done and ready for the next load. I need to run a couple errands, pick up some milk, and then bell practice later this afternoon. Hope you all enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!

gma22 04-06-2018 08:58 AM

Good morning all. I am going to be heading out in just a bit to get my nails done today. It is very misty and has rained but I hope it holds off while I am out and about. It is hard to try and have a cane, handbag and umbrella. I only have two hands.

We did our commissary shopping on Wednesday because Jack was off because of MLK memorial day here. I thought wow a weekday and the back gate will be open (it isn't open on the weekends.) We can get in and out really quick. Uh, no! There were tons of people and the old codgers were a pain in the neck. They would stick their carts in the middle of the aisle and walk away from them and you would then have to move them to get around. One guy just stood there and wouldn't move and no one could get around him. He ignored anyone saying excuse me too. People just got fed up and forced him to move and when they did, I whipped my electric cart around him. It was a nightmare. We get up to check out and the dingbat cashier screwed up the payment of the guy in front of us and it took about 10 minutes to straighten out the cash register. We are all done now so that is good.

My HOA payment has not come through the bank so I told Jack to call him and find out when he made the deposit because if it was Monday, I am going to reissue another check and get it in the mail and stop payment on the other one. What a pain.

Jean: I got the giggles over Bob wanting to use his machine for minnows. Jack's is a small cooler like the kind that holds 6 cans of soda. It has a hose device that goes in it with the motor thingy. You put the ice in the cooler and attach the hose device and away you go. Hope he is getting up and around now. I noticed they postponed the Iowa Cubs game. Are you guys getting more snow? This has been one weird spring so far.

I guess I better get a move on as I need to dress and such. Have a good weekend everyone. Sure hope we have some good weather. Our cars need good baths.

Jean 04-06-2018 05:20 PM

Good Afternoon! It’s another cold and very windy day in my neighborhood. The sun has tried to come out this afternoon but it has been hit and miss. I went to get my nails done first thing this morning, then ran a couple errands. A week ago Bob took my bathroom mirrors to the glass place because the backing, whatever it is called, was wearing off and the magnetic buttons were scratched and discolored. He stopped in yesterday and the guy said he was having trouble finding the same kind of hinges and so-called magnetic buttons. He had some different colored ones than the originals but Bob said I needed to stop in and pick the color. I did that this morning and the goofus hadn’t even cut the mirrors yet. I let him know they were from my bathroom and I wanted them ASAP. Miraculously he found the hinges, etc., online and said he thought he could get them done on Monday, Tuesday for sure. I hope so! He had both our phone numbers so could have called! I picked up the gift shop money, have that counted, and checks written for next week. Yesterday we made a quick trip to Sioux Falls to go bed shopping for “our” room at Jason’s, then all went out to a Chinese restaurant to celebrate Amanda being done with radiation. It was a buffet and I’ve never seen so many different kinds of Asian foods plus they even had pizza. There was a pool with pretty koi (?) fish that had an audience of small children.

“Gma,” great minds think alike when it came to nails today! ;) We have rude shoppers here too. Amanda shared that she ordered groceries online during a meeting yesterday, then picked them up on the way home from work. She had the kids meet her in the garage to help carry things into the house. If you spend $100 or more, there is no service charge, which doesn’t take long with a family of four including two teenagers. They can even add to the shopping list with parental approval. We are supposed to get more snow, along with strong winds, on Sunday. I must admit everyone, everywhere, is complaining about the weather. Too bad we can’t do something about it! We came home with SD dirt on our car, the main side road to Jason’s is getting a new sewer line so we had to drive on a dirt/gravel detour. He said it will be an all summer project. Fun!

I need to put my paperwork away and clear off the table. In my next life I will have a big desk so I don’t have to use the kitchen table! I saw where Dancing With the Stars will feature athletes this time. I probably won’t know any of them either. Hope you enjoy a nice evening!

Jean 04-08-2018 12:29 PM

Snow, snow, and more snow today! At least is didn’t rain first.

Happy Spring! :shocksn: :snow4: :snow4: :shocksn:

Jean 04-09-2018 05:31 PM

Good Afternoon! It’s another cold gloomy day in my neighborhood but at least it’s not snowing. There was no school because of the snow so it was quiet at church this morning since the office was closed. We balanced on the first try and my computer was cooperative which was so appreciated. I made the gift shop deposit and dropped checks off at the hospital on my way home. This afternoon was a P.E.O. “Social” which meant we just get together and either have a speaker or go somewhere together. One of our members has an antique/candy (as in home made fudge)/wine/and dip mixes shop so she hosted us there. She gave a brief program on some of her decorative pieces, and their history; many came from remodeled buildings or local people who have down sized their homes. Bob is at church for practice and offered to cook tonight since we are out of bread and milk. I intended to stop at the store on my way home and forgot. Not sure which restaurant he will be cooking in. I need to change clothes and be ready when he comes home. Hope you all enjoy a nice evening!

gma22 04-10-2018 12:44 PM

I know I posted on here. I think my senility is kicking in and I don’t hit submit or something. I have two posts floating around. Poor Jean thinks she’s talking to herself!

Jack had an ortho appt for his hand. Nothing is being done until it gets worse. Jack says that’s ok as he has done the preliminary stuff like trying therapy, etc so when the pain is all the time maybe they’ll just do surgery then.

We have appts set up to have a hitch put on the mks and then have an electric scooter lift mounted on the back. This way we will again have trunk space and if I need to shop, I can easily use my scooter. It sure isn’t cheap though. The hitch isn’t too bad, $230, but the lift is $2200 and that includes the labor and taxes. There goes my hangbag budget for the year. We have to rearrange the garage this weekend though. Someone took the garage and cordoned off the back like they were going to put in a closet but never finished. We stuck the big rubbermaid boxes with Christmas decorations and such there but we now have to move it to other side because we need to pull the car up farther to get the extra length in. We have to see whether I will have to park the scooter on the deck with the cover over it or whether pulling it up will accomodate the lift being down with the scooter on it. We were going to have to get something sooner or later and after loooking at the fold down kind, we decided that wouldn’t be any better as I wouldn’t be able to fold it up and down and attach it, etc.

We had dinner out with friends at PF Changs on Saturday and that was nice. They live in Indiana, but he was shuffled down here with the FAA so they rent an apartment here and she goes back and forth. She still has a lot of estate stuff to wrap up on her mother and she said they put in new landscaping that has to be taken care of all summer so she’ll be up there all summer. When they are here we usually have dinner with them once a month.

Jean: How much snow did you get for them to close school? I would imagine that kkind of sop has some interesting stories. I received something after my stepaunt passed away that she had in her possession. It was a telegram from my dad to my mom’s parents saying they had a new baby girl (me.) I thought that was pretty cool.

Well off to eat lunch. Have a good day

gma22 04-11-2018 07:27 AM

Good morning. It is around 41 right now but we should get into 70’s today and stay warm for awhile. Jack still uses the electric blanket at night, but I made him put it on top of the comforter because I get too hot with the extra blanket on. I run a fan all night as it is. I am chilly this morning and have a blanket over my legs.

Jack just left for work about 10 minutes ago and I got a load of laundry going. I need to move some shoes from where they are now to a storage container I have for them, but we shall see if I get that done. My allergies are driving me nuts and they say the pollen is high so it figures. Even Jack is having a lot of sneezing and such this year. Guess we’ll have beautiful flowering trees and flowers this year.

Brats and tots for dinner by request. I saw a story my bil posted on FB. They live in Lubbock and this mexican restaurant there is struggling to keep from going under. I guess their business was going so well they opened a second location and the son and his wife were going to run it. Everything was going so great at both locations. They had a long time loyal employee at the original restaurant, (they’ve been in business 20 yrs and this employee has worked there the whole time.) Anyway, they promoted him to night manager so the dad,who is getting up in years, could have some time off. The employee forged $15,000 in checks and now the family is in big financial trouble. They can’t pay the rent, their vendors, even employees have had to go without pay. The couple and their dad are about to lose their cars because they haven’t been able to pay themselves. Some employees stayed but a lot left and they can’t hire more because there’s no money. They had police file charges but the employee blew through the money. Sad.

Well, better get some breakfast in me and some allergy meds. Have a good middle of the week.

Sandy and Bob, hope your knees are better!!

Jean 04-11-2018 10:08 PM

Good Evening! Another cloudy and gloomy day in my neighborhood until late afternoon when the sun came out, just in time to start setting. I finished my greeting card order this morning and took that to the hospital. I happened to run into the nurse Bob had for his knee surgery and filled her in on his progress. She was so pleased saying they rarely get any follow up on their patients once they leave the surgery unit or are dismissed. This was my lunch bunch day then a short nap when I got home. :D This afternoon was our last bell practice until fall. We are playing a really DUMB piece imo; it is all malleting and no one rings. All I hear is the thumping at our end of the tables, no melody whatsoever. I’ve told Bob and my co-counter to pay attention to see if they hear a melody when we play Sunday. Otherwise the next three days will be cleaning and fixing food for card club. Saturday night is our last concert program until fall; the Glen Miller Orchestra and Chorus which should be good. Amanda just sent Zowie’s soccer schedule so will be on the road again! We will miss a couple of the 9 AM games, we would have to leave here by 6:30.

“Gma,” I hope your scooter lift works well for you. I had to :) about your handbag budget! The tv said we got 5” but it was the heavy wet kind of snow. There was no excuse for not having school! We have neighborhood pickups where the school busses stop then the individual cars bringing kids is unreal. The school board has decided to build an early childhood building (free babysitting!!) across the highway from the elementary and middle schools. The traffic is a big mess now so people on our side of town might as well forget going to town during the school start and finish times. Neighborhood people without children are really upset about that decision. The telegram would really be a treasure! I am still turning on my electric blanket and sometimes still wear my socks! Bob hasn’t had his blanket on for the last few nights but turned it on in the middle of the night last night. I hate being cold! That is too bad about the Mexican restaurant. I don’t know why people think they can get away with stealing. No conscience I guess. Bob has a doctor’s appointment tomorrow and assume will get his stitches out. They itch and are bugging him no end, no pain just a little stiff.

I need to double check my grocery list for tomorrow and clear off the counter . . . . . again. Hope you have a terrific Thursday tomorrow.

Jean 04-12-2018 12:24 PM

Good Morning! We had breakfast with sunshine but Mr. Sun has now disappeared. I double checked my list and headed for WM early. Picked up orphan food, bottled water, paper items, and a few grocery items to the tune of $150! Would you believe they didn’t have Crispix cereal? I need that for a snack mix. I will go to the grocery store tomorrow for the fresh produce and things I couldn’t find this morning. There is a $.13 off a gallon of gas tomorrow if I spend $20, which won’t be hard at all. It’s a Friday the 13th gimmick. Just received Zowie’s soccer schedule so we will be “on the road” in a couple weeks. Most are on Saturdays and I’m hoping the others aren’t the same day as Maddy’s. I think we had a couple conflicts last year. I need to sort and put things away, start laundry, and think about something for lunch. Hope you enjoy a terrific Thursday!

gma22 04-13-2018 07:53 AM

Good morning to you ladies. It is overcast and warm this morning. We are expecting some heavy thunderstorms tonight and rain tomorrow. So will not be moving stuff in the garage until Sunday.

I got a message asking us to dinner on Saturday so we will be doing that. My friend will be going back to Indiana for the whole summer so she wants to do one more dinner before she leaves at the end of the month.

Jack has to return two canisters of Freon and pick up the right ones from WM tomorrow and get me some allergy meds. I haven't been this miserable in a long time and drowsy or not, I have to have some relief. I will text him a list so he doesn't forget anything while he is there. I am going to try and get a few things done while he has gone that I have been putting off.

I ordered a couple skeins of sock yarn and they should be here by tomorrow so I can have another knitting project. Haven't knit socks in awhile so decided to do a couple pair. I don't know who I'll give them to yet. If you ladies would like a pair of socks, just let me know your shoe size.

Jean: Hope the stitches come out easy and your bell performance sounds better than you think it does. I saw this recipe on FB a couple weeks ago. You take the butter and marshmallow mixture you make for Rice Krispie squares and use Cheetos instead. Ick, doesn't sound very good to me. Cheesy marshmallow, uh uh. So what snack mix are you making?? When I worked at the law firm, this gal used to bring in leftovers when she had gals over for cards and it was really good. It had popcorn, potato sticks, m and m's, candy corn, and a couple other things in it. I ordered and received a handbag I bought a few days ago and I love the look and size of it but it had one issue. I didn't read that it was "vegan leather" and the stuff looked like suede on the website. I got it and it smells like marijuana!:o I guess that is the "vegan" part. Anyway, I Febrezed it last night and it still smelled this morning so I took one of my roller ball perfumes and rolled perfume all over the thing. I am not walking around like I just smoked a joint!

Everyone have a nice weekend.

Midget2 04-13-2018 11:51 AM

Hi ladies! Remember me??? LOL Just popping in to let you know that the knee replacement surgery went fine. Going to therapy 3x a week & it is grueling!

I haven't gone back to catch up on posts but will do that eventually. Hope all's well with you!

Happy Friday the 13th! It is a dark gloomy morning with a 30 mph wind blowing in from the east. It’s supposed to get windier this afternoon, rain this evening turning to snow during the night. Last snow prediction was 6-8” up to 10” since we are right on the blizzard edge. :( The birds and squirrels are devouring food on the deck so they must sense the storm is coming. Orphan cats were here early for breakfast before it got light. I have been to the grocery store to pick up fresh produce, meat, and what I couldn’t find yesterday between WM and the other grocery store. I plan to fix the cereal snack mix this afternoon and everything else tomorrow. We have shutters on our front living room and bedroom windows. I noticed the other day one of the bedroom shutters (second story of course) had blown loose. Today, in the wind, Bob and one of the guys from the office reattached it. Fortunately, the other guy offered to climb the ladder while Bob held it. Bob was afraid the whole shutter might blow off in this wind. We’ve never had so much east wind as we’ve had this winter.

“Gma,” hope your allergies settle down soon. I have been taking generic Claritin for a long time and think it’s not helping much. I decided to try an essential oil combination that comes in pill form. I figure if it helped the natives before modern medicine arrived maybe it will help me too. :) What do you use Freon for? Makes me think of years ago and our air conditioner leaked. The marshmallow and Cheetos combination doesn’t sound good to me either. Bob said the surgeon was impressed with his progress. The nurse took his stitches out, then put “glue” over the two incisions, and a thin see through tape on top. She said the tape would come off in a day or two and he was good to go. I wouldn’t feel bad if our Saturday night performance is postponed along with our bell performance on Sunday. We have to be at church to set up by 7:30 and who knows what the weather will do. Saturday night is traveling country roads or take the long way on a state highway which we could easily do. I hate second guessing this weather! The “blizzard” is to be done by noon on Sunday but who knows. I hope you can get the smell out of your new purse! I wouldn’t have known what vegan meant.

Sandy, it’s great to see you and know your surgery went well! :cp: :cheer: :D Come back when you can stay longer!

I need to get a move on; have a load of laundry in the dryer which should be done. Have a fantastic Friday and enjoy!

Good Evening! Well, the blizzard has arrived! When we got up this morning our east windows were plastered with frozen rain. The snow moved in, along with strong winds, and then the sliding doors on the opposite side of the house were plastered with snow. The town is “closed” except for emergency routes to the hospital and there have been police and sheriff warnings all day to stay home. Our Glenn Miller concert for tonight is rescheduled for May and no church services tomorrow. I am still planning on card club tomorrow night; this is supposed to blow on through by noon. I have been fixing food so hope everyone can get here! One couple is out of town so have my fingers crossed they can make it home. Second guessing the weather is not fun and it is making people grumpy. To add to my frustration, Maddy’s soccer schedule is the same night as Ian and Zowie’s concerts, a game for Zowie, and our rescheduled concert. Will have to make some choices again this year. Maybe it will rain and they will have to reschedule one or the other. A novel idea for sure! I need to dream up something for supper so better get a move on. Enjoy your evening!

Good morning all. Woke up before 6 with pounding on our bedroom wall, or thought it was. Turned out it was someone at their door. They just kep at it. I got upand was in the bathroom and came back and he said it had stopped. I gave up sleeping in any and came downstairs.

We had nice dinner and conversation with friends last night, but it didn’t start out well. We were headed down there and were sitting at a stop light. The light turned green and Jack pulled across the intersection and this black mercedes with at least 4 black thugs in it came from no where behind us, cut across in front of us, almost sideswiped us and when they got around slammed on their brakes like they were going to get out. I told Jack to get out of there as they were going to try something. We got away from them and they went and turned. I ask Jack what he did to make them mad and he said nothing as he didn’t even know where they came from. You risk your life driving in this stupid town.

Today we are moving the garage around I hope. We have to get at least part down today. The weather has been nasty so don’t know what it will be like today.

I got my sock yarn yesterday and it is so soft and beautiful. I can’t wait to see what it’s like in socks.

Jean: You guys stay safe and don’t let Bob be out walking around outside. You don’t want him slipping and tearing everything out. Hopefully, it will move through and temps will rise. Sure hope you don’t get stuck with a bunch of food.

Have a good Sunday!

gma22 04-16-2018 10:49 AM

Good morning to you all. It is cold here this morning in the 30's. We are sure having some weird weather all over the country so far this year.

I found the pattern for my first pair of socks so will be starting on them soon. I wanted something small to take along places so thought socks were just the ticket.

We didn't get out in the garage yesterday because I was really sick. I am not sure if it was a bug or some kind of food upset or what, but I was in no shape to go out and work on the garage. We will hustle around next weekend and get it done before we grocery shop. Worse comes to worse, I will just shop at WM during the week after Jack gets off work.

Nothing going on the weekend. We have no appointments so maybe I can get things done around the house. We have so much to do to try and give us more room. Storage in this house is just not very good and since our garage leaks, everything has to be in containers that are water proof. I don't know what I will find when we go out there this next weekend. I want all the closets and rooms cleaned out by fall and everything back to normal. That is the hope at least.

Hope you all are having a nice day. Stay warm and dry as I know Jean has snow, but don't know about the rest of you.

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining, the wind is blowing, and the snow is melting . . . just in time for the next round which is to begin during the night sometime. I felt like the hamster running in his wheel the last few days. The blizzard hit here in full force on Saturday and shut down the town for all practical purposes if anyone was dumb enough to try and go anywhere. I had fixed a couple food things for card club on Sunday night but put the rest on hold in case we cancelled it. There were no church services on Sunday; it snowed off and on most of the day and the wind blew but not as bad as on Saturday. By afternoon people were beginning to dig out so decided to go ahead with card club since the couple living in the country could make it. One couple was stranded out of town and another guy came down with the flu so we ended up with four couples instead of six. Lots of leftover food! Since we didn’t have church on Sunday there was nothing to count at church so I slept in a little later on Monday. I did have to take the gift shop deposit to the bank and drop off checks at the hospital. After lunch I had a P.E.O. meeting and just about fell asleep during the program. Last night was our last gals’ card club until fall and we go out to eat. I had good partners and managed to take “high” for the night — $2.00 in quarters! Today I ran some errands this morning, washed a load of laundry that is waiting for the dryer, and finished putting the rest of the card club dishes away.

“Gma,” that was scary about the car nearly sideswiping you and Jack! We never look at the cars next to us at stoplights here. We’ve never had a problem but you never know in this town nowadays. As I said above we did have card club. I hated to cancel with May being so busy and a couple farmers in the group who will most likely/hopefully be in the fields. I had lousy cards and ended up in the hole while Bob ended with a declare hand and took high. The host couple can’t get the prizes so we were sol! I hope you are feeling better by now. The stomach flu is making the rounds here again. :(

I need to get clothes in the dryer and write some church birthday cards. Hope you are enjoying a nice day!

Good Morning from the land of SNOW and cold! Yep, it is snowing again! I’m so glad I don’t have to go anywhere today! The bell choir director wanted to meet this afternoon to decide if everyone could, or would want to, play in May. At this rate don’t think we will meet unless the snow stops. I have birds and squirrels waiting for food but the snow covers it up as fast as I throw it out. I feel bad for them! The two “regular” orphan cats were here early for their breakfast before the snow really got started. This is just nuts! I need to decide which sorting and pitching area to work on today. I should accomplish something since I am stuck at home . . . . although I do have a good book to read. :D Hope you enjoy a GREAT day!

gma22 04-20-2018 07:22 AM

Good morning everyone. It is cool this morning but supposed to get around 70 today. That is still cooler than it is normally. I haven’t even started wearing sandals and by April I am usually wearing them all the time.

What a mess with the hitch and lift. Well, not the lift but the hitch. First off, though each Uhaul place has a local number, they have one line and it goes to a call center if it is in use. The call center doesn’t know their head from a tea kettle. When Jack made the hitch appointment around 3 weeks ago, it was through the call center. The dimwit sceduled a Saturday appointment even though our Uhaul doesn’t do Saturday work. She then authorized payment but it dropped off and she never ordered the parts or made the appointment. Jack just happened to call to check about the appointment tomorrow and they had none. He spent an hour trying to get it cleared up because the lift install is scheduled for Tuesday and we had to pay a large deposit in advance for the parts and appointment. Anyhow, come to find out, the guy is only there Mon or Tues and since the dimwit never ordered the parts they charged him an extra $83 for fast shipment! He took it and then insisted they have the store manager call him as he was going to throw a fit. She is supposed to give us our $83 back and the appointment is Monday and so it works out. Jack has to take two days vacation though.

Tomorrow is rearrange the garage day as it is not going to rain. Hopefully, it won’t take but an hour or so. Jack tends to not put things back though it might take longer, ie wrapping up the electrically cords, throwing away used window washer bottles, etc. I just hope nothing is ruined because of the leaky garage.

It’s commissary weekend oh joy. I went yesterday and got my nails done but we will have to do WM stuff next week. I want to get the car washed tomorrow afternoon as it needs it badly. Seems like it always rains on the weekend or will rain the next day. We can do WM on Tuesday after the install the lift I guess.

Jean: How’s Bob doing with his knee? Our KC friend is having a rough time with his. He had surgery to fuse his ankle a few decades ago and it caused his ankle to be swollen all the time and he walks with a limp. The knee surgery isn’t healing properly because of the ankle issue so he is having problems with both now. Hopefully, the winter weather will cease soon.

Have a good weekend everybody!

Good Afternoon! We started the day with sunshine but the sun disappeared around lunchtime. :( Jason asked me to pick up a garden flag from the local college where Amanda graduated; he has one from his/our alma mater. I picked one up yesterday and when I got it home discovered it was huge! The gal said they had two sizes and handed one to me so I assumed she knew what was what. I took the so called garden flag back to the college bookstore today, and found the other flag was bigger yet. I told the gal they might sell more of the small garden flags rather than the large banner type flags. I still don’t think she understood what a garden flag is even though I told her what my flags measured. This morning was my once a month coffee date so that was my morning. After lunch I picked up the gift shop money and made the deposit, $1100+! It was a $5000+ week including the credit cards and employee payroll deductions. There was a two day sale in spite of the crappy weather.

“Gma,” what a mess for you and Jack dealing with the lift and hitch! So frustrating for you! The garage project and commissary trip doesn’t sound like a fun weekend but good jobs to get done. Bob says his knee doesn’t hurt at all but will ache a little when he first stands up after sitting for awhile. He sleeps good so that’s good. Makes me appreciate when I don’t have anything that hurts or aches! Just got our cable/internet/phone bill and I am so mad! A new company took over last summer and promised the rates would not go up, even sent letters out in the fall saying so. Last month it went up $10, and another $10 this month. I am calling them on Monday! We found eight sports channels last night and six were reruns of old games! That part doesn’t make any difference to me but we also have at least six Mexican channels which we don’t ever watch. Makes me crabby! The standard answer is “fees!” We have another cable company in town so may check their prices before I call our’s, but I will call!

I need to dream up something for supper. Still have sloppy joe leftovers so that may be it. Love the microwave! :D Hope you enjoy a nice evening!

gma22 04-21-2018 02:57 PM

Good afternoon! Beautiful here today. We didn’t even need a jacket to clean garage. Only took about an hour but we found two potential problems. One is pulling the car up farther now we have to be super careful opening the side door. The other was after moving the big rubbermaid containers we found tree shoots had grown under the back of the garage and attached themselves so they couldn’t be moved. We’ll have to try and trim them some way but there’s a snarl of them. None of my boxes had any water damage, so we were able to just move them to the other side, but two had broken lids so we need to get new containers for them and transfer everything tomorrow. Everything is up off the ground now as we saved a wood pallette from the shipent of my scooter and put the boxes all on it.

I decided to wait until Tuesday morning to get the car washed and cleaned up then take it to the lift place at 1 pm.

I think we are going to have Chinese for dinner tonight. We are both pooped from moving everything and Jack kind of strained his knee some so we’re doing easy dinner.

Jean: I noticed on Thursday when I drove through Chick fil a they had their flag at half staff, but it is so huge that it almost touched the ground which is a nono. Sorry the flag didn’t work out the way it was supposed to. Wow that was some deposit for your gift shop. Direct tv raised our bill for second straight year. Like you there are a lot of channels we never even look at. You get stuck with the packages and then they stick crap in there. We now have that cult Scientology channel.

Well, guess I better get a move on and type up the grocery list. Have a good weekend.

Jean 04-21-2018 07:14 PM

Good Afternoon! We had sunshine for about 30 seconds this afternoon, otherwise it’s gloomy and cold. I’ve done a couple loads of laundry, dusted and vacuumed, then filled a months worth of med containers for both of us. We went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch and I was disappointed in that there wasn’t any of my usual choices (lots of different vegetables) with meat dishes on the buffet. I ended up with egg rolls and crab rangoons.

“Gma,” I sure hope the tree shoots don’t cause damage to your house floor! Will you have to dig up the cement in the garage floor? I hope your Chinese tonight is better than mine was this noon! ;) I’ll have to check and see if we get the Scientology channel; I looked for “church” last Sunday and never did find anything. Wish we could pick what we watch and just pay for those channels!

Bob is hinting he is hungry so guess it is time for food, again. Life would be so simple if we didn’t have to eat! Enjoy your evening and a special Sunday tomorrow!

gma22 04-22-2018 01:28 PM

Good afternoon. We went to the commissary this morning, came back home, put everything away and are now just vegging until the game comes on. Jack is snoozing in his chair and I just balanced my checkbook, put in some receipts and am just hanging out. It poured rain so hard you couldn’t see this morning so we nixed the boxes at Lowes and dinner out. We were going to Gengis Grill but I fed up with sloshing in the rain. We’ll go tomorrow after Jack gets home from getting the hitch put on.

We had a real idiot bagging groceries. Took me forever to get them put away because she just threw stuff in bags. She put two 6 pack bottles of soda in one bag.

Jean: Jack decided he wanted cheapo pizza so he went to Little Caesars. I actually like their cheese pizza when it’s hot and he had to wait for fresh so it was nice and hot when he got home. Whatever happens to the garage they have to fix. It’s not our responsibility. Right now it looks almost like thin vines but we’ll have to watch it ad keep trying to cut it back. We have a really good Chinese buffet here but we rarely go there. We usually just get it at the little take out place a couple miles fro here. They have really good egg drop and hot and sour soup. They give you fried wanton pieces instead of crackers to put in it. I like general tso’s chicken, sweet n sour chicken, low mein, fried rice, egg or spring rolls. I eat some pork dishes, but I like chicken ones better.

You all have a nice Sunday.

Jean 04-22-2018 04:30 PM

Good Afternoon! We have sunshine and it’s 60 degrees outside! :cheer: All of our back yard snow is GONE! We still have a pile in front where the sun doesn’t hit but with warmer temperatures it will be gone soon. Zowie’s first soccer game yesterday was postponed because the field still had snow piles and mud. I was glad as it wasn’t that warm up there either. We had Humor Sunday at church this morning. Bob’s group sang a couple of lively songs, then the women did a couple silly singing routines. Someone found some appropriate songs that were fun for the congregation to sing. The pastor injected some humor in his sermon and only talked for 20 minutes so we got out when we should have. This afternoon I’ve been sorting through shoes in a spare bedroom closet, some I had forgotten I put in there. :o

“Gma,” we are supposed to get some rain later in the week and we don’t need any more “wet” right now. Our grass is green in some places which is nice to see instead of white. I must admit our grocery checkers and sackers are good, and will group like items together. My only complaint is sometimes they will double bag and make the bags heavier than I like. When my shoulder was so sore I would ask them not to do that. The one store has mandatory carry out but if I just have one or two bags will tell them no. The other store has drive up but I haven’t done that in years. Their carts are also wet if it rains or snows. :( We have another Chinese restaurant in town and they always have my favorite cashew chicken on the buffet but their crab rangoons aren’t as good. Guess it is a trade off. I like any of the meat and veggie choices except spicy and they are labeled.

I need to get back to my shoe sorting and find some shoe boxes. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
