Steel Magnolas #8

Good morning to you all. It is warm already this morning, but pleasant not too humid. I am assuming because I only have the back door open and the window in the storm door open.

I put in new wax cubes in my diffusers and am not sure whether I like them or not. I did notice the wax loses it scent before it all melts away and you just have to toss it out. At least this way I can have fragrance without Jack griping about the spray hitting him in the face. :)

I am going to try and finish the downstairs cleaning today. I haven't accomplished much so far, but it is early yet. I have a small load of laundry in the dryer and will unload the dishwasher when I am done here. I think I will do the dusting first as I hate to do it.

I got the pretty blouse last night. It is different shades of greens, blues and purples. It is nice and long and buttons down the front with pintucks up above the breasts. I bought another just like it in rusts and browns so I hope I like the colors just as much. You can't dry them in the dryer but shaking them out and hanging them up and the wrinkles come right out. I should get the capris I bought for them on Thursday. I just hope they all fit.

Susan: Basically what I was told is it wouldn't, "stick" to have it done when I weighed too much. They said I had to get down to under 200 lbs and close to goal weight to have it done. I agree with you that they shouldn't have let people back in the pool. The shock stuff alone can cause irritation let alone needs time to work.

Jean: We had had weird weather again this year all over the country. I am hoping it isn't monstrously hot in Sept during the cruise. Our very first cruise it was near 100 in the Caribbean everyday. I had just had my hair color and I sweated so much the color ran onto my shirts. :( Since I couldn't treat and wash them right away some of them never did get the pink out. I am not sure I would want that kind of tax bill. We went three rounds with condo management about the hazard insurance and finally got that taken care of. The credit union did send us a letter that we got yesterday stating they needed confirmation every year about the insurance so from now on we will just contact the insurer directly and have them fax the new policy info. Something we shouldn't have to do, but then if we don't the idiot won't send it.

Everyone have a good day today.

Jean 05-23-2017 03:31 PM

Good Afternoon! It's another cold, windy, gloomy day in my neighborhood. We've had a few sprinkles but that's all so far. I went to get my nails done this morning and Bob brought home a car to test drive. Our lease is up in June so have to either buy the one we have, or choose something else. Maddy has a make up game this afternoon and with the iffy weather we are waiting until the last minute to leave. It's a 6:45 game so will be colder there too. I'd like to make a couple shopping stops if possible.

Susan, Kaluha pork sounds interesting, reminds me of Maui. How do you fix it? As long as the new knee works as it should, it is worth the price! I hope the second surgery goes as well as the first one. I agree about the pool. We have a bunch of village idiots who pushed for the water park and resort to be built when a casino vote failed. It has cost nothing but money for taxpayers and shown no profit after 10 years. The council fired the management company then hired a new one that has no experience with water parks. :(

"Gma," it was in the 80s and humid on our cruise in February. We didn't mind it since 80 is nice here and we are used to the humidity. The people who were complaining "looked" older than we are. ;) One just can't second guess the weather any more.

Bob is home and ready to go so we're off! I need to go find a sweatshirt! Enjoy the rest of a terrific Tuesday!

gma22 05-24-2017 10:18 AM

Good morning to you all. It is gloomy and rainy here today though it is supposed to clear up this afternoon. It is also significantly cooler.

I am dragging this morning as I had another rocky night of sleep. I am not even sure why, but I woke up several times. So, now I just feel drugged sort of but have work to do. I have laundry in the dryer and a pot roast in the crockpot but need to get some work done I guess.

Jean: Are you going to get another Buick? I thought that is what you have currently though I may be wrong. Do you get a sedan or an suv? I know Bob has a pickup. I told Jack next car we buy needs to either be an suv again or a van so we have more room for traveling than my MKS can be for driving around town. We don't plan on buying another new car for several years though unless the Mariner goes kaput. All the other cruises, even the Thanksgiving one were in the 80's but that first year was just miserable. My thought is why travel to the Caribbean if the temps are too hot for you. Isn't that what you go there for? I mean you can take other cruises where the weather is a lot cooler, Alaska or the north somewhere. I guess people will gripe about anything though. Jack belongs to Cruise Critic and he says people gripe about the dumbest things. Everyone always wants more than they get no matter what is given to them I guess. We are just happy to be away from home and enjoying being together.

Everyone have a great day today

Jean 05-24-2017 03:39 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining and it's warmer than yesterday. Maddy's game got rained out again and not sure if it will be rescheduled or not since softball and baseball has started. We were sitting at the field when it started to rain, still in the truck so we didn't get wet. Beth and Maddy were on their way so turned around and we met them for ice cream. We did get the shopping done: dress shirts for Bob, juice food for the Orioles, and a few things from SAMs. This was my morning to work in the gift shop; no sales but I did work on the greeting cards. There are some $2.50 cards I marked down to $1.25 but they still didn't sell so I marked them down to $.75 and put them in a "sale" box on the counter. Ian has a baseball game tonight and we will head that direction shortly.

"Gma," we are losing our sunshine but the forecast is partly cloudy for the rest of the week, then rain on the weekend. I got up this morning thinking I didn't have to go anywhere. I need to make a grocery list and go first thing tomorrow. With the holiday weekend our grocery stores will be super busy on Friday. We have been seriously looking at a Ford Explorer. Bob doesn't want black interior and the one we like is a combination of light and dark, they don't call it black though. The one here in town has two sunroofs which I don't give a hoot about, and a towing package which we don't need. It doesn't have the blind spot approach nor crossing the line warning which I like. We have a Buick Enclave now and like it, except it has a clunky noise when crossing street "bumps" and our previous one did also. They replaced struts on both and now the mechanic claims he can't hear any noise on this one. It's really bad in the winter when the vehicle is cold. I don't drive far enough to warm it up which doesn't make any difference anyhow. We've talked about going back to a car but I like sitting up higher and the weight for traveling the interstate.

Bob is ready to go so we're off! Enjoy your evening!

gma22 05-25-2017 08:44 AM

Good morning to you all. It is chilly this morning, low 50's and not going to be hot. We are working back into the 80's starting next week though and looks like we might get some really hot weather. Who knows anymore. I think the old weather forecasting was more accurate than all the new fangled stuff they use and get it wrong!

I got all the rest of my clothing. It fits, it was washed up and dried and still fits so all ready to go except to pack and that's a ways off yet. I canceled the last shirt as it won't ship until at least July. I have plenty already.

Not a whole lot going on here today. I have stalled with the knitting but need to just plow through and get it finished, hands hurting or not.

Jean: We have a black car and all black interior and here in the summer it can pretty hot. We wanted a black car though and that's what you get with the Lincolns in black. Hope the game went better than Maddies, though ice cream is always good.

Have a great day everybody!

Jean 05-25-2017 11:31 PM

Good Evening! Just got home from Maddy's last soccer game in the city league. Next year she will be too old for this league and will just play on the middle school team. She had her best game ever, played goalie the whole game and only allowed one goal by the other team. Her team won, 3-1. Ian's game last night was exciting! His team was down by one going into the bottom of the 7th. The kids do a constant jibber jabber and kicked it up a notch, which seemed to upset the other team's pitcher. The worse he threw the louder the chant, but not really directed at him. They put in a left handed pitcher who ended up walking three players; over two hours for 7 innings but it was a fun win. I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow except to pick up a few groceries for the weekend. The only thing on our weekend calendar is a 50th Anniversary and not sure we will go to that. Rain is predicted so would be a good chance to do some more sorting and pitching.

"Gma," are you going to be gone over the weekend, for the game, or is it close to home? I'm sure you said and I am too tired to go back and look. Anyway, have fun and hope you enjoy the game! So glad all of the new clothes will work for you. We are still waiting to hear if the sales gal can get the car she found online for us and from the cabin buyers' bank. Talk about slow motion business. Bob did find out we can't keep our license plate which was the flag and 59 OUT. Even though we paid the ridiculous price it belongs to the leasing company. Iowa has changed their numbers to black so we were due for a new one this year anyway. I liked it because I could remember it. People would ask the significance but it was just luck of the draw.

I am going to unload the dishwasher and head for bed. Hope you the long weekend!

gma22 05-26-2017 10:16 AM

Good morning to you all. I have no idea what our weather is going to be like. It says rain than it doesn't or no rain and it does. It is warm in the house so I am assuming it didn't get cold overnight much.

I bruised the top of my right had right below my middle finger and it looks really ugly. There's a lump like it's swollen too, but I have no idea what I did to it. I just noticed it while sitting here.

I got yarn for a baby blanket and hat for my great niece's new baby. Hopefully she will use it as the baby is due in November. I bought this yarn called Fable. Each color is a fairy tale name. I bought this aqua, yellow, green and white striping yarn and it is called, "Frog Prince." The white I bought is "Snow Queen." It is really soft and will be great for babies. I just got a kick out of the name.

We booked a short cruise for next year in November because our KC friends kept asking when we could go on a cruise together. I haven't heard back from her but if they don't want to go then, we will cancel as we are only going because they ask us. It is the Monday after Thanksgiving so don't know if they are going to want to go or not. It is also a 5 day not a 7 days cruise. We got a really good deal on a balcony cabin too.

Jean: I hope they can find a car for you. When we went looking, they had a red one and a black MKS. We really liked the black over the red so picked it. Our Mariner is red though. Sounds like the kids had a great night overall. I haven't talked to either grandson so have no clue what is going on with them. With the way things are, it is up to their parents if they have contact with us I guess. Kelly lurks in here so I am sure she will see this. I did see a picture of Jackson and they have let his hair grown down to his shoulders. I just send them cards and money for special times and it is all I can do considering the situation. As for the baseball game, it is here in Memphis, downtown at Autozone park. We have a Cardinals triple A club here called he Redbirds. Supposed to rain on Sunday so we shall see. We have club tickets so it is all indoors anyway but they still would have to have the game. I am hoping so as I don't want to go to some other game and the tickets were too expensive to just toss.

Everyone have a great weekend.

Jean 05-26-2017 07:02 PM

Good Afternoon! It's been a beautiful day with sunshine, no wind, and 80 degrees this afternoon. I needed a graduation card, wanted a new pair of sandals, and needed a few groceries so made a trip to town this morning. This afternoon I did the end of the week paperwork for the gift shop, brought the money home to count, and get ready to deposit on Tuesday. I am looking forward to having three days where I don't have to be anywhere at a specific time, except church on Sunday. The youth group is having a craft fair, tomorrow, with several name brand venders also attending plus they are serving lunch.

"Gma," I, too, get a kick out of the new names applied to different things. The yarn sounds beautiful! I hope the cruise will work for your friends. It's nice of you to do that. They did find a car . . . it's in Arkansas, and they're not sure that dealer will trade. Bob said to check and see if they could finally any color with the lighter interior; we prefer red but would take anything except black. ;) I like black cars but with our rainy and windy weather they are always dirty. I sometimes have bruises on my legs and have no clue how I get them. :dunno: I do bruise easily for some reason. Hope your hand is better.

Bob is hinting that he is ready for some food so guess that means me. Hope you enjoy a nice weekend!

Good morning to you all. We are supposed to be hot and rainy today pretty much. Jack is going to head out in a couple hours to his eye appointment. I decided not to go with him.

Here is the little hat I made for my great niece's baby. I think the colors turned out great. It's cuter than the picture, but I couldn't get it to stand up so you could see the pattern it was knitted in. I have to buy new needles to do the blanket though as I don't have size 5 long circular needles, which is what I need.

Jean: Tell them to check Autonation in Memphis. I just looked and they have some Explorer 2017's with cream colored interiors. They have a red one that has cream interiors. We bought our Lincoln from them. They no longer have a Lincoln dealership though. The closest one now is about 80 miles away. This town has Cadillac, Mercedes, bmw, Lexus, you name it, but no Lincoln dealership anymore. I have to get a graduation card for my great nephew. He has enlisted into the army national guard. I guess he wants to eventually be a police officer. He is exactly one year and one day older than Thomas.

Have a great day everybody. Off to find my needles.

Jean 05-27-2017 07:13 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining, a little breeze is blowing, and the rain never happened. The weatherman goofed again! :D I've done a couple loads of laundry this morning then we went to church for lunch. I felt bad for the crafters, venders, and kids putting on the event. There were maybe a dozen die hard church members there to eat lunch and I didn't see anyone "shopping". I felt kind of weird looking at things and being the only one doing so. There just wasn't anything I needed or wanted. We came home, changed clothes, and headed off to the anniversary party. It was in full swing with sandwiches, salads, and cookies instead of cake. Neither one of us was hungry but ate a little salad, a cookie, and punch. Now we are home again and debating about going to the movie. Maybe we will save that for tomorrow afternoon.

"Gma," I don't think our local dealer wants to travel that far to pick up a car. There is one about 30 miles north of us, on the way to the cabin, but it has all black interior. Bob visited with a guy at church who has the all black interior and said it wasn't bad with air conditioned seats. I guess we'll see what develops on Tuesday. Meanwhile Bob put $5 worth of gas in my car, just like in the old days. Does Thomas graduate next year? It seems like the grandchildren are growing up so much faster than our own kids did. The baby hat turned out so cute! I love the colors!

I need to change clothes again. Bob said he doesn't need anything to eat tonight so I'm thinking maybe popcorn later. Hope you have had a nice day.

Jean 05-28-2017 03:11 PM

Good Afternoon! We had sunshine this morning but it has disappeared now. There was no rain predicted for today so hope it comes out of hiding soon. We went to early church and filled out a survey pertaining to what type of service we prefer, how we like communion served, why we come to church, which service we attend, and a place for comments. There has been a rumor about going back to one service on Sunday for the summer and/or eliminating the Saturday night service which won't go over at all. I wouldn't mind one service but it will include the "dog and pony show" which we don't like. We'll see what develops, if anything. Bob is out mowing and I have the washer going.

The washer should be done by now so on to the next load. The kitchen island needs to be cleaned off and that's on my afternoon list. The sun is back out! Yay! Hope you all enjoy the rest of a super Sunday!

gma22 05-29-2017 07:39 AM

Good morning gals. Even with the awful storms Saturday night and 150,000 people without power, some of which won't have power for a week they said, the ballgame last night was beautiful. We paid $10 to park in a 1star hotel parking lot that was well lit and easy to get out of. We left the game in the 9th inning as the Cubs were losing and didn't stay for the fireworks because Jack's butt hurt from sitting on a high backless stool all night. We weren't accosted, no beggars asking for money, got back to the car and got the scooter loaded back in safe and sound and came home safe! No one was around here at home either. The folks across from us were having a get together because we heard them laughing but nothing else.

Today we're going to clean upstairs. Jack has clothes he hasn't put away and I want to do sheets and clean bathrooms, dust and vacuum as long as it doesn't get too hot.

Jean: I thought if they'd consider AR they'd consider Memphis. Our delearship has auto semis pick the cars up and take them to the dealership not drive them themselves. They charge you a destination charge though. It's true the chilled seats cool them off pretty quick but anyone else who gets in gets a burned bum! I have started on the blanket and I think it will turn out cute.

Well I better go. You all have a nice day today. It's beautiful and sunny here today.

Jean 05-29-2017 01:27 PM

Good Morning! The sun is shining and just a breeze is blowing. We went to see the flags around the court house lawn, very impressive but they are rapidly running out of room. When Jason was in scouts they presented the flags but I am embarrassed to say we don't usually attend because we were at the cabin. Bob's name is also engraved on the Vietnam veterans' granite marker there. The historical society is having a lunch of pork burgers or hot dogs, chips, salads, pie, and ice cream so we are going to that. The pie is the deal breaker for me! I love pie!

"Gma," I'm glad you had nice weather for the ball game even if your team lost. It's good you made it back home safely, you sound like me going out after dark here. The car dealer just told Bob where they found the car, not that they would go get it. I don't know how it works between dealers but know the dealer can refuse a trade if they choose to do so. One of our Cadillacs came from Ohio but was bought at a car auction for dealers only so was on the lot here. It had been a program demonstrator and had all the bells and whistles available back then. The Explorer has heated/cooled second row seats but not the third row. Did you get the big blanket done? At least a baby blanket won't take you as long.

My washer is done so need to switch loads. Hope you are enjoying a nice day.

gma22 05-30-2017 07:31 AM

Good morning ladies. I think we are expecting sunny skies today but who knows. I am not going out today as I have the rest of the upstairs to finish. We started straightening up and I got really lightheaded and gave up finishing it yesterday.

I do have to get to the nail salon this week as they have grown out quite a bit and my polish is pretty scuffed. Maybe aim for Thursday. Having Jack home on Monday screws my week up in my head so I have one less day this week. I have a late apt for my hair on Friday night. I am trying to be helpful to her as she is home schooling now so I let her make me an early evening appt.

Jean: No, I haven't finished the last four squares on my friend's blanket nor started on the pillow. I am thinking I may just hold onto it for her birthday next year at this point. I have made an ok start on the baby blanket and the pattern is pretty and the coloring from the yarn is nice. Because of the pattern it doesn't come out in stripes, which the yarn is a self striping. It's really pretty I think. Hope you can find the car you want and get it straightened out. IMO if they want to sell you a car they will do what is necessary to get one for you. We didn't do much yesterday and the Cubs lost again so I am disgusted totally with them. Jack says I am not rational about baseball, but you either stink or you don't in my opinion and this year they stink so far.

Everyone have a great week this week. Off to put clothes in the dryer and get some breakfast.

Jean 05-30-2017 04:47 PM

Good Afternoon! It's another windy, partly sunny/cloudy day in my neighborhood. The house feels cool even though the temperature outside is 75 degrees. I'd open the sliding doors except the dust would blow in! There wasn't much money to count at church this morning so I was finished before the secretary got there. I dropped off the gift shop deposit at the bank on my way home. I have no ambition today! I've done some more laundry and addressed a church birthday card. We both thought the movie, Snatched, was a waste of time. The language was mostly the "f" word and Goldie Hawn wasn't as funny as she can be. I was very disappointed.

"Gma," we decided we would take a white car then the sales gal called Bob back and said there was a big discount on it, wherever it is, because of hail damage. :dizzy: No thanks! Bob thinks it is just over the MN border because they got hail in our last storm that blew through here. So we keep looking. Our high school football team has had a losing streak for 25+ years. They hired a new coach last year and this year they took second place in the state play offs. The soccer team has done well and is at state now. It's not fun to go to games and continually lose; I always felt bad for the kids. Iowa is supposedly cracking down on home schooling. Two girls, both foster children, adopted, and home schooled, were abused and died of starvation as punishment. I thought school districts kept close accountability on home schoolers but guess not. The DHS is in hot water because both families were turned in for abuse but nothing was done. So sad!

The dryer should be done so I need to fold towels. Maybe that will get me motivated to accomplish something else today. A nap sounds inviting. Hope you enjoy the rest of a terrific Tuesday, even though it seems like Monday!
