Good Afternoon! The wind is blowing hard and the sun is hiding, rain clouds are moving in. Not much money at church this morning so we were done early. Afterwards I picked up Kolby's picture at the newspaper, stopped by the bank with the gift shop deposit, and the hospital to drop off checks. Have done a couple loads of laundry and took a nap again this afternoon. I don't know why I am so tired; I slept good last night, even went to bed early.

I just got Maddy's middle school soccer game schedule and looks like we can go to those and then her other game right afterwards. At least they are on the same day so can still just have one trip a week to Sioux City. Not much else is newsy from here. Hope you enjoy a nice evening!

gma22 04-25-2017 07:37 AM

Good morning to you all. It is going to be a gorgeous day today in the 80's. I have to get the upstairs bathrooms cleaned so no going out for me today.
:(

I am hoping to get my ac remote today. I can't believe how slow the stupid post office is. I did figure something out though. Our zip code is 38115 and we have a post office a mile from here. Well everything comes into the main post office then goes to the post office (a mile from here) that services the 38115 zip code except for our area, which is the post office across town in the 38118 zip code. So all my stuff takes an extra day as it goes to 38115 first then has to be taken to the 38118 post office for delivery. I don't know why in the world they changed us several years ago but it sure is inconvenient.

I bought Jack a new pair of Van slip ons for vacation. They have Chicago Cubs logos all over them. He has two tropical pair and he loves them so thought he might like the baseball ones.

Jean: I buy an Emeril brand that has two patties in the box frozen and you just thaw and fry them up. They have Cajun spice in them and it is the only kind Jack will eat here at home. For a picky guy he eats several kinds of seafood, crab, shrimp, scallops. I think I stopped counting around 40 bags. I probably have 55-65. Right now they are a mess because I don't have enough room to store them but after we get back and start clearing out stuff I will. My salmon patties are a can of pink salmon, ground up crackers, an egg and I just fry them up until they are nice and brown on both sides. They do fine using Pam so I don't have to use a lot of oil or butter or such. My mom used to make potato patties with left over mashed potatoes. She would mix them with egg and them dredge them in flour and fry them. I have never done that as Jack eats up the potatoes fairly quickly around here.

Everyone have a good day. I am seriously behind on the knitted squares so have to hop to it!

Jean 04-25-2017 11:29 PM

Good Evening! It's been another cold rainy day in my neighborhood. The weatherman just said it's supposed to get down to 37 tonight. :brr: I was home all day but can't say I accomplished much except a couple loads of laundry and vacuuming fur bunnies.

"Gma," your mail delivery is about as screwy as our's is. Things mailed from the same place get delivered in town a day before we get it. The post office is a ten minute, or less, drive from our house but we are considered rural delivery. My mom used to make potato patties too. I haven't thought about them in years and have never made them. I will have to look for the Emeril patties, Bob would like them I know. Hope you made lots of progress knitting today!

Tomorrow is my morning to work in the gift shop so need to decide what to wear, and errands after lunch. Hope you enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!

gma22 04-26-2017 07:32 AM

Good morning ladies. In the 80's today and rain this afternoon so I imagine it will be sticky. Sure is weird weather all over the country this spring. It was in the 50's in Pittsburgh last night for the ballgame and supposed to be 80 there today!

I sure wish I had these squares done. I am so bored with them I have to force myself to keep knitting them. I have 7 left to go and then can sew it together, which will probably take a couple days because it is very big.

I was going to go out and get my nails and toes done today but the bathrooms upstairs need attention so I will do them. On the weekend the upstairs is getting a good vacuuming and dusting as it needs it badly. I'll wash the sheets then too I guess. This is the off weekend. How I would love to just take off somewhere, but there are things that must be done here at home this weekend.

They sent my package back to the wrong post office and expect me to go pick it up. I am calling my post office this morning and telling them I want it delivered. We shall see what comes of that. I have a shirt coming today and several things on Thursday and Friday and of course they are all somehow connected to postal delivery.:mad:

My skort fit perfectly and comes to my knees so it like a regular blue jean skirt. I have the perfect shirt for it and blue jean looking sandals.

I read the story behind Erin Moran's death and that was so sad. Her doctor's didn't even tell them how bad she was!! I believe if my friend's husband had done what he wanted and gone to Cancer Treatment Centers instead of them talking him into local doctor's he might have lived longer. I begged her not to let them put that drain tube in his chest. I told her he was way too weak to have a that thing put in his chest but she let the doctor's bully them into it and he was dead less than two weeks later. He developed a clot right there at the site of the tube. I have learned over the years to stand up for myself when it comes to doctors. Like the Amlodipine. I have been off it two weeks now, the swelling is completely gone in my legs, feet and ankles and I lost about 5 lbs from it. When I go back in July or August he will just have to find something else to put me on.

Jean: Wow you got to stay home all day. I wouldn't have done anything at all but just relax. You have so many things you do, it is nice to just have a day off when you can.

Everyone have a good day. I am off to tackle those bathrooms.

Jean 04-26-2017 11:15 PM

Good Evening! It's been another windy, cold, misty, crappy day in my corner of the world. I didn't sell anything in the gift shop this morning but did order cards from a new company. They are more expensive so just hope they will sell. The company we use now has discontinued their $.99 and $1.50 cards. Recommended pricing for the new, much nicer cards, is $2.99. A gal from my card club was working in the coffee shop so we went to visit another card player who had her knee replaced yesterday. Bob came for lunch in the coffee shop, then I ran a couple errands. Zowie asked for nail polish in the colors of a rainbow and I found them all at Walgreens! The cable/phone/internet company raised our rates another $20 after just raising it $20 in December. We've been having some reception issues so yesterday I called to vent about that, the price, and all the Mexican channels we get that we can't watch. I mentioned checking out the other local cable company and was promptly switched the a person with more authority. They always say, "I see you have been a loyal customer for many years and ALWAYS pay your bill on time" -- it's on auto pay from the bank! Anyhow, she lowered it $47 for six months and then $25 for a year. Made me happy! Then the trouble began! The tv went blank with a box saying we were no longer authorized cable users. I spent an hour with a tech who couldn't get it to work, and then said he would send someone out today with a new HD box. Long story short, Bob offered to exchange the box; first one gave us a pink picture and the second one works fine!

"Gma," I hope the post office delivered your package by now. What a frustrating hassle, for you! I can imagine you could knit the blanket squares in your sleep. We are going to Sioux City tomorrow; I wanted to stop at Penneys to find an outfit for Zowie's birthday and then on to Maddy's two soccer games. Now we are going earlier so Bob can check out a fishing boat; he hopes he could trade in the one he bought there last year. "Bigger and better you know!" I just hope it warms up!

I hope you enjoy a terrific Thursday tomorrow! I'm heading to bed!

gma22 04-27-2017 07:46 AM

Good morning to you all. It rained pretty hard last evening with a lot of wind and lightening so it is a cool 50 this morning. We are going to get up to around76 today it looks like. I just saw a warning about cicadas. UGH! We get the nasty things every year and they have a short life span and drop dead on the deck. They are huge bugs and are just icky not even counting the horrible noise when there are a lot of them. People around town are already complaining about them, but we haven't seen them here yet.

Jack is down 13 lbs and I am down 14. Jack has about 15 lbs or so he still wants to lose before the cruise. Whatever I lose before then is what I lose. I just want lbs off before I go back to the doctor late summer.

My package didn't come of course so now I have to call this morning again. I do so get sick of this. I am supposed to get some clothing and then a new pair of sandals from UPS. I imagine I will at least get those as they are showing on the truck.

I saw this recipe on FB and thought you might be interested for a party or get together. Thought it would be great for Jean's card club.

EASY STRAWBERRY PIE

Crust
½ c. (1 stick) butter, softened
3 Tbsp. sugar
1 c. flour

Filling
2 c. water
2 c. sugar
6 Tbsp. cornstarch
1 (6 oz.) package strawberry jell-o
3 lbs. strawberries, cleaned and de-stemmed
*If you are using a shallow pie plate, cut filling recipe in half.

INSTRUCTIONS
Crust
1.Mix butter, sugar, and flour and press into a greased deep pie plate. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

Filling
1.Bring water, sugar, and cornstarch to a boil, stirring, until thick and clear.
2.Remove from heat; add strawberry jell-o.
3.Mix well and cool.
4.Fold in strawberries.
5.Pour into pie shell.
6.Store in refrigerator until set; serve with whipped cream.

I may give it a go with Stevia and sugar free jello. How bad could it be? Jack won't eat it as he isn't a strawberry fan so have to make it fit my needs.

I am going to go and get my nails and toes done today. It is wet outside, but I always wear thong sandals so it is easy to get my toes painted. My knee is killing me this morning so I hope it isn't too hard for them to do. My knee will get really stiff when it rains and be hard to bend and such.

Jean: I could give Zowie colors around the rainbow here at my house. I have pretty much everything though I tend to like reds, pinks, and purples the best. I do have green and yellow and an aqua one and even a dark blue that is really pretty. I have rust colors and copper colors, sparkly ones and even white. I have Cubs colors too. I threw out some earlier this year because I guess they got cold over the winter months and they leaked around the caps. I usually don't buy anything but OPI because I think they have the best polish and it lasts a long time without going bad. The boys birthdays are in June and will just send them money. You know what is going on again so cards and money are it as much as I hate it. Bob sounds like Jack only his is computers. We have more worthless computer junk than I have ever seen. We do the upstairs cleanout and they are going to the city's computer place where you can take the worthless stuff. Some of it isn't too old and works well but living in a condo you can't just have a yard sale or something. We will just stick it in storage or give it to Salvation Army I guess. I think cards are the biggest rip off ever anymore. That and wrapping paper stuff. I mean to buy a cute card will cost you $5 nowadays and I always try to buy cute ones for the boys. I need to get a card for my girlfriend for her birthday. I usually get her Maxine cards.

Well I need to go. Have a good Thursday everyone.

Jean 04-27-2017 02:11 PM

Good Afternoon! It was 30 degrees earlier today, and very windy again. There is no sun shining either. crooked I went to get my nails done and waited almost a half hour for the shop to open. The employee who finally unlocked the door had no idea where the owners were. There were four of us waiting, but I was first in line. Stopped by the Hallmark store for birthday cards and holy sh*t have their prices gone up again! Just like the grocery stores, Hallmark came in and rearranged all of their cards. I asked for a 100th birthday card commenting I couldn't find any, and the poor owner said they didn't have any control over the rearranging. I felt sorry for her. I did find an appropriate card though! I refuse to pay $5.99 for a card that will most likely get thrown away! Stopped for bread and milk then headed home. We are going to Sioux City shortly, with winter coats and blankets for two soccer games. This weather is just awful but at least it isn't raining nor snowing!

"Gma," congrats to you and Jack on the pounds gone! :cp: Thanks for sharing the recipe, sounds good! We've had some strawberries but they still aren't as good as they will be later. I've started buying blank note cards and write my own message. I love to send and get cards but not when it's getting so expensive. :( Our grandkids get a kick out of getting money; Maddy will save her's while Kolby wants to spend his asap. Ian says he's saving for gas even though he doesn't have anything to put gas in yet.

I need to dig out another long sleeved shirt, then we're off to two soccer games! Enjoy the rest of the day!

gma22 04-28-2017 07:46 AM

Good morning all. It is cool this morning but supposed to be near 85 today. I hope the sun comes out.

I had to send my new sandals back. The strap over the instep was too short. I just hope I don't have problems getting my money back as they had all these rules you had to follow to get your money back.

I got my handbag and I kept it, but hope it isn't too heavy for me. Jack said he didn't think it felt heavy empty so we shall see. The color isn't as vibrant as in the online picture, but that happens sometimes. I did finally get my remote and sent USPS an email about where the other one is. I also sent an email to the company explaining the situation as I don't want them just shipping it back to me now if it does show up. My shirt fit fine, but they aren't shipping the tank for at least another week. That's ok as it is cruise clothing.

I have a pair of jean capris in black and two tops coming today. I have a pair of long shorts on back order. I hope I don't hate the color when they get here.

I went and got my nails and toes done and did a bit of shopping at WM then came home and had lunch and started another square. I am really behind and need to catch up, but I am so bored with it. I still have to make the pillow sham as well and haven't even worked on it at all.

Today what gets done, gets done and if nothing well that's ok. We are going to do work on the upstairs tomorrow. We moved my old computer chair upstairs to Jack's off and the thing is completely peeling off. It is supposed to be leather and I never heard that but it is coming off in pieces and Jack is dragging the stuff all over the upstairs. It is a mess. I told him to put duct tape on it and then put a towel over it to sit on as there is nothing wrong with the chair to use except that. I also need to desperately dust up there. I hate dusting worse than any cleaning job I have to do.

Jean: Hope all the games and such came out well. The oldest one saves his money and the younger spends his. I never had much money as a kid even babysitting as back then you only made about 50 cents an hour. The kids want $10 an hour nowadays, which is ridiculous. Glad I don't have to deal with that as we would be taking our kids everywhere with us I guess. I paid $5.50 for my bff's birthday card and there was not much to it. I like to buy her funny cards, usually about getting older.

Everyone have a great weekend. Breakfast and laundry in dryer for me now.

QuilterInVA 04-28-2017 11:18 AM

Good morning, ladies! Another hot (85 degrees) day with rain for us.

I've been home for a week and am getting along just fine. I have home help, occupational therapy and physical therapy keeping me busy. My physical therapist took me outside today for a walk and I graduated from the walker to the cane. She says I'm way ahead of where people usually are. I go back to Dr. Baddar next Thursday so we shall see what he says. I'm currently trying to get off the pain medication during the day, replacing it with Tylenol. When I can do that, I can start driving again.

My friend came and took me to Glory Bee yesterday. I didn't elevate my leg enough and ice it and last night it was really swollen. I iced it a couple of times before bed and this morning it was back down.

Humana sent 10 frozen meals so I don't have to cook. I haven't had much of an appetite. In all, I've lost 18 pounds. I feel fine and have energy.

More later.

Jean 04-29-2017 08:38 AM

Good Morning! I wrote this last night and just discovered it didn't go anywhere. :hyper: It's cloudy, cold, and windy . . . . . again. I'm hoping Zowie's soccer game gets rained out this afternoon.

Susan, it's good to see you this morning! I'm glad you are doing so well with your new knees. I'm sure Casper is so glad to have you home again! :cheer:

Good Afternoon! Fifty-two years ago today, Bob and I had our first "date" which wasn't really a date, but a chance meeting for a ride and coffee. Where does the time go? It is a cold, rainy, miserable day again! If you can believe this SNOW is predicted over the weekend! Grrrrr! I had a hospital volunteer luncheon this noon plus the required annual training. The training is the infection control nurse telling us to be sure to wash our hands thoroughly and the director of nurses reinforcing the hospital privacy policy. The lunch itself was pulled pork on very dry buns, a macaroni salad, grapes, and rhubarb crisp; it was nothing to write home about. The gal who usually did the luncheon has quit and we could sure tell the difference from last year. I picked up the gift shop money on my way home so have that counted and ready to deposit. This afternoon I did get a load of laundry washed and dried.

"Gma," you definitely are keeping the delivery guys on their toes! I have a couple purses that are too heavy once I get them loaded; I need to get rid of them! Maddy's team won their middle school game, 1-0. The girls were convinced they would lose because the other girls have been playing soccer since they could walk, if you get my drift. Several girls were quite heavy and they play on a much larger field so we could tell they were getting tired from running. Maddy was goalie and Bob told her he was going to bring a chair for her because she looked tired watching the action at the other end of the field. The second game Maddy's team won, 11-0 but played a younger team. I felt bad for the other team but Maddy's bunch has had the same thing happen to them coming up through the ranks. This is the last year she can play in the city league. I got paid fifty cents an hour for babysitting, and the went up to seventy-five for three kids the last year. I babysat for a teacher and did dishes after the kids went to bed. I remember telling my mom the lady wasn't a very good housekeeper. :o

Bob is doing dog chores for his farmer friend and I am going to ride along. Hope you all enjoy a nice weekend!

Jean 04-30-2017 09:33 AM

Heading to the lake to begin the cleaning out process -- 37 degrees, 23 mph wind, and raining. Not a nice day!

gma22 04-30-2017 10:42 AM

Good morning. Very dark, rainy, with thunderstorms here today. Temps aren't cold though.

I am heading upstairs in about a half an hour to do some work up there then back downstairs and get another square knit. Ugh!

Jack helped me yesterday with my dress hems but having shoes on and standing on my step stool we found only the pink one is too long so it's the only one that the hem has to come up about 2 inches. The material of the dress is such I don't want to mess with the hem and screw up the dress so will just take it and have someone do it.

I think I am going to fix baked fried chicken for dinner. Maybe cauliflower for me. Jack can have leftover mashed potatoes.

Susan: So glad you are doing so much better! I know you have to be anxious to be able to drive again.

Jean: I saw Kansas got snow. I was amazed this late in the year. It certainly has been a weird year for weather so far. I hate having sandwiches on dry bread or buns. I usually just take it out of the bread. I love rhubarb and miss it. My grandma used to cook and can it. Have fun messing at the cabin.

Everone have a good Sunday.

Jean 05-01-2017 06:01 PM

Happy May Day! It's been another cold, windy, drizzly day in my corner of the world. We had a few snow flurries this morning but they melted as fast as they hit. There wasn't much money at church so I was finished and gone before the office officially opened at 9. Stopped at WM on my way home; they are rearranging again and none of the grocery aisles were labeled yet. That store really tries my patience! The only good thing there wasn't a bunch of kids running loose. I spent a good part of that afternoon double checking the payroll deduction sheets from the big sale a couple weeks ago. I thought I was under paid so wanted my ducks in a row before I faced the accountant. Turns out there were a couple of large double entries, by the volunteers, which I didn't catch the first time through. Glad I double checked!!! Bob is at practice and said he wasn't hungry when he left, supper may be something super simple!

"Gma," After the fact, I did notice that several of the women fished the meat out of their bun. I was hungry so ate the whole thing! Baked chicken sounds good; anything I don't have to fix sounds good! We got quite a bit done at the cabin but still have lots to do. A gal from Bob's office came and got the hutch so that's one less thing we have to move out. Hope your blanket squares are finished soon!

Bob is home again, had the wrong day! Hope you all enjoy a nice evening!

gma22 05-02-2017 07:25 AM

Good morning to you all. Going to be sunny and 80 today but right now it is a chilly 48.

Ugly ballgame last night and a rain delay so glad we didn't watch it. I would have been screaming at the tv the whole night. The pitching was awful.

Hopefully Jack's clothes will come today. He needed a couple pair of dress pants and a couple pairs of shorts. He said we will need to start practicing tying a tux tie soon. I have never tied one and will have to get Utube help. He did call RCCL and set up our dinner reservation times. We are going to just sit at a table for 2. We have done the big table route several times and just want to eat by ourselves this trip. I also made our specialty reservations and I hope the food is ok for Jack. I made him look at the menu first and made him decide. We are going to Jaimie Oliver's restaurant onboard the ship.

Jack is two days down with jury duty. So far he isn't having to go in. He turned his paperwork into his boss though so he is all set if he has to go in and miss work.

I got my pink shoes yesterday and they will work great with a couple dresses so will cut down on shoes I take. I can wear the same shoes with both of my dressy dresses and my blue shoes will work with my casual clothes and my other casual type dress. I am taking a pair of closed toed flats that are a little dressy and another pair of sandals and that should be it.

I will drop off my pink dress to be fixed on Thursday when I go to my waxing appointment.

Jean: I forget, are you selling the cabin or just getting it ready for summer? Glad you found the big goof and hopefully get your pay straightened out. The chicken is so super easy and comes out crispy like fried chicken. Best in the oven recipe I have found. You use Bisquick of all things.

Well gals, going to get my day started. I have a feeling her blanket and pillow are going to be a couple weeks late. I am getting farther behind.
Have a great Tuesday!

Jean 05-02-2017 04:43 PM

Good Afternoon! We have had sunshine all day, no wind, and it's warm enough to have the sliding doors open! :cheer: Quite a change from snow flurries yesterday! I've been putzing most of the day with laundry, vacuuming, and dusting. Dusting is a waste of time in my opinion! I am trying to get myself psyched for a trip back to the cabin tomorrow, and it's supposed to rain again. One of the agents, from Bob's office, wants the couch (for his dogs no less) and is planning to bring a trailer up to get it plus whatever else will fit that we can donate to a place here in town. Thursday will be Maddy's middle school soccer game, then Kolby's band concert (same school location thank goodness), and ending with Maddy's city soccer game on the other side of the city. At least we can do it all in one trip.

"Gma," we have a young weatherman who came to Sioux City from back east someplace. He always wears a bow tie and a hanky in his suit pocket. Have you tied Jack's tie before? You and Jack will be dressed in style with all your new clothes! :D Yes, we are selling the cabin. The trust was set to sell last summer; two years ago Bob mentioned it to the guy who, with his brother, own the year around house behind the cabin. They dragged their feet making the decision to buy because they were afraid they couldn't drive across the lot next to us which belongs to Bob's mother's cousin who lives in Florida and comes back for a couple months each summer but rents it out the other two months. The blacktop road ends in front of her place and we have a car length of dirt/gravel to our lot. She wouldn't sign a waiver but since it was grandfathered in, she can't stop them. They now have access to the lake from their house on the other side of us so wouldn't have to park anything unless they would have a lot of company for some reason. In the end they will have 75' of level access from the yard, and sandy beach which is very unusual; most of the real estate around the lake has a flight of steps down to the water and no beach, just rocks. Tell me again how you fix your chicken; I know I saved it before, and now can't find it. I thought maybe I wrote it on a recipe card but if I did I put it someplace really stupid. :o

I have laundry to fold so need to go get it from the dryer. Hope you enjoy a nice evening and a wonderful Wednesday if I don't get in here tomorrow.
