Good morning to you ladies. It seems cooler this morning, but I know we are supposed to get up into the 90's again today.
I finished the other bootie and have everything in vinegar water to set the colors since the blue could run onto the white when washed. I will then do a quick wash for them with softner to make them all nice and soft then block everything. Hopefully everything will be dry by Monday and I can run them out there on Monday. Now back to the blanket for my great niece's baby. I have about 55 more rows and I am done with it. It is probably the prettiest blanket I have ever made. It is very lacy looking I think. I have to go on Monday and get my nails and toes done. I also will get all my air freshners for my spray thingies. I get the WM brand because I love the smell of the Japanese Cherry Blossoms. We will go out there tomorrow, but Jack always gives me the fish eye about buying them. He hates fragrance in the house, but since he hates open windows the house gets all stuffy smelling. I noticed the ac units upstairs smelled sour so I took a couple of my Yankee Candle car hangers and a small crochet hook and looped the string through and hung them in front of the vent. Voila, no more sour smell. It is something called Pink Sands and smells pretty good. Back to the eye doctor on Tues to have my eyes dilated and will make an appointment for my surgery then I imagine. Gotta wait until after Jack's hand surgery though as he is about out of vacation time for the year and I will need him to drive, even one handed. Jean: I go on the page where the seller information is and try and see where it is being shipped from. Usually I can find it but not always. I have been searching for these slippers forever and finally found them on a website that is wholesale medical. I have to buy a case of them, which is 10 pair, but I think I will just do it. I used to get them at Kmarts. They are like ballet flats with the upper being terry cloth and the soles are rubber. I wear men's ankle socks now, but sometimes they can be slippery and I don't like putting them on and off like traditional slippers. We don't wear shoes in the house and I need something on my feet, especially in winter. The booties were a lot of work, partly because of color changes. You have to weave in all those strings. I would do it as I went so that I didn't have to do it all at once. I am glad I am done with them though. Knitting tiny stuff really makes my hands hurt. Well you all have a nice weekend. It is shopping weekend for us. |
Good Afternoon! It has been a cool cloudy day in my corner of the world today. I've done some laundry, fixed a casserole for lunch, and took a cat nap in front of the tv this afternoon. I think my busy two weeks finally caught up with me -- I am still tired! We are supposed to have thunderstorms, off and on, starting tonight and through the weekend. Bob talked about going to the lake to mow but if he does, I am staying home to work on sorting for the church rummage sale coming up.
"Gma," I really notice what I call "old people" smell in houses. I don't know if they never open windows or use air fresheners, but the house has a stale, icky smell. I have a candle warmer I really like, Scentsy burners, and the essential oil diffusers so can vary the fragrance as the whim moves me. Did I tell you I found the leather fragrance Yankee car clips in the Hallmark store? I bought all five to give to Will for Christmas. :D Doesn't Jack have family emergency days from work, so he wouldn't have to use vacation days? I try to weave loose ends as I go when I make an afghan; I made the mistake of leaving them all to do at once, one time, and never again! The dryer just buzzed so will fold and put away that load, then call it good for the rest of the day. Hope you all enjoy a nice evening and a relaxing weekend. |
Good morning to you all. We had a short strong thunderstorm yesterday afternoon but we didn't lose power for once. I am hoping for a sunny day today as we have WM to do and I want to get my car washed and vacuumed out. I do it every two weeks and last week it rained all weekend.
The young boy in the condo across from us was taken out of his home in handcuffs yesterday afternoon. He is only about 14 and a pretty nice kid. He is always really friendly and respectful to us saying, "Ma'am and sir." I couldn't believe it when Jack came in and told me. His parents are nice folks to very friendly towards us. I am almost done with the yellow baby blanket. I can then put the wedding blanket on the needles and start to work on it. We stayed up way too late last night as the Cubs played out in LA and the game didn't come on until 9:40! I told Jack if I fell asleep to just leave me in the recliner. I woke up at 1 having to go to the bathroom and then couldn't go back to sleep so started grocery lists. I think I went back to sleep around 3 or so. Jean: I did the same thing with a blanket once and like you never again. I weave them in as I go so I don't have to weave them all in at the end. I color blocked them and washed them and they are being blocked and dried right now. Jack has vacation days and sick days and can earn a bonus day for every 90 days he works without taking sick time. They allow you to take 7 sick days a year before you have to have a doctor's note so he has been taking sick time off even for me on Tuesday. He only has 2 vacation days left until January 1st. We don't know how long I have to not drive and for sure the day of each surgery for each eye and maybe the following day we just don't know. Everyone have a nice Saturday. |
Good Morning! It's another cloudy morning here in my neighborhood. The deck looks wet but it has gotten very humid; at first I thought it was misting. I've changed the sheets and have laundry in the washer and dryer plus the dishwasher just finished. Thinking of the energy I saved by not doing the "work" reminds me I would not have been a good pioneer woman!
"Gma," it would be interesting to know what your neighbor boy was arrested for. In this day and age it could be anything. As I've said before, you are a brave woman to venture into WM on a weekend! I'm not sure how Beth's time off works, but she calls it PTO time. She can take an hour at a time if she wants; that is nice when the kids have doctor appointments or games that start at 5. When she worked in collections she had to take one full week, so they could audit her books. She never worked with the actual cash so never understood why. In school we had our own sick days, personal days, or family emergency days. My church counting friend had to have someone with her the day of surgery but she was driving the next day. She needs glasses to read so her optometrist gave her loaner glasses until she can get her own again. I've also seen people have a plain lense on one eye. I'm off to unload the dishwasher and fold a load in the dryer. Hope you all enjoy a nice Saturday! |
I just reordered, from Amazon, same thing I was charged shipping for a few days ago. Today it is Prime. Go figure! :dizzy:
|
Good Afternoon! It has warmed up and more humid; the air conditioner is humming away slick as can be. :) Went to early church and I visited with people afterwards while Bob met with the trustees to promote LED lighting throughout the church. The project started just to be in the sanctuary, then spread to the offices, conference room, and main hallways. We will get big rebates from the electric company and the energy savings alone offset the initial cost. Bob put one LED light bulb in a hanging chandelier and the difference is amazing. The trustees have money set aside so it's a "go"'-- should be all done by the end of September. The pastor, and Bob, are happy campers. Bob said he will be out of the bulb changing job! After the meeting we went out for breakfast with another couple. This afternoon I've been working on rummage sale stuff; don't know how I accumulated so much over the years. I am a pack rat! :o
Hope you all have had a nice day! |
Good morning to you all. It is going to be another very hot day here, but I should be back home by 11 o'clock or so.
I have to have my nails done and I am running the baby stuff out to the gal who does my waxing as I called and she works today from 9-2. The nail place opens at 9:30 so it works perfectly as it is on the same street about a mile apart. Tomorrow is dilation day and Jack is taking the day off as we need to do stuff with regards to his surgery. I want to get the car washed and vacuumed and clean the leather in the car too. I have started the wedding blanket and I am not sure the yardage is right for the yarn. I did my gauge and it comes out right, but I am sure using a lot of yarn fairly quickly. I ordered 2 more of each color and we shall see how that does. I am doing gray heather, amethyst which is a plum color and then mixing the two as you use two thread held together for this project. It is knitted on big needles which gives my hands a bit of a rest, but very large needles can be hard to handle too. Jean: I ordered this big clock from Amazon on the 18th and they have yet to ship it. Amazon sent me an email saying the seller hasn't shipped yet so they were not going to charge my credit card and to contact the seller. I did and told them if they haven't shipped it yet to cancel and I would order it somewhere else. I got an email from them yesterday saying they would try but it is at the fulfillment. Now, I want the clock so if they are going to ship it I am ok with that, but I want to get it hung up before Jack has his surgery because I can't do it. I want to put it above the fireplace mantel and it is a 28" clock and all metal. I know you think I am crazy at my age, but I like the steampunk look. This is semi steam punk. I saw we have a light bulb out in the kitchen and I told Jack I didn't care when he does it, but it has to be changed before his surgery. I shall see how many times I have to remind him. I imagine the day before surgery the bulb will get changed. Everyone have a great day! |
Good Evening! It's cloudy and looks like it could rain. We could use a gentle shower. We didn't balance on the first try at church this morning. We were long an odd amount of $5.31. There weren't many checks and they were all even amounts with no cents. In the end the other gal had added it in two different places instead of just one. At the hospital there was supposed to be a sneak preview tour before the coffee shop and gift shop moved. Come to find out it was the only open house and tour before they moved patients into the new rooms. The time of the ribbon cutting was 10:30, and people were divided into groups with 20 minute intervals between tours. Now for anyone, outside of the hospital working 8 to 5, they were sol for a tour. :(
I ran a couple errands after lunch, then finished my gift shop paperwork and put that away for another week. We had a funeral visitation at 5; Bob offered to cook supper so had quick stop at a local sports bar. The food is good but the tvs are distracting. "Gma," who is the wedding blanket for? I do hope your yarn works out right. I think I remember a great niece mentioned but don't remember if it was a wedding or a baby. I hope your waxing lady is duly impressed with your baby items! I will have to research steam punk. :o Good luck with your appointment tomorrow! My Amazon order is supposed to be here tomorrow, and I'm hoping the mailman brings it since the UPS packages are so filthy. I need to round up "the boys" and head them down to bed. Hope you all enjoy a nice evening! |
Good Afternoon! It's a cloudy humid day and if the sun comes out it will be miserable. Right now I'm waiting to find out if the soccer game is still on for tonight. We had over an inch of heavy rain this morning. I met our traveling friends (gals) for lunch this noon, wrote a couple cards when I got home, and that has been my day so far.
Hope all is well with all of you. Enjoy! |
Good Afternoon! It's a beautiful day in my neighborhood today; sunny and warm enough to have the sliding doors open. There is no wind and that is such a nice treat! I've been working on my annual report for the auxiliary meeting in a couple weeks. It is scheduled for the same day I have lunch bunch so the volunteer director will have the honor of presenting it to the group. I do have my priorities! :D I'm heading to the basement to sort through more clothes for the rummage sale. Maybe I will bring a box upstairs since it's too nice a day to spend in the basement.
Not much newsy going on from here. Hope you are enjoying a nice day whatever you are doing. |

Good morning gals. Gonna be a hot and sunny one here today. Our heat index is supposed to be around 102. I have to be out as I have a hair appointment then need to pick up meds at CVS and get some sympathy cards someplace.
I am sorry I haven't been in here for a couple days. It has been a little crazy here. The eye appointment took all morning, but I am set up for my first eye October 10 and my second eye Oct 24. The scheduling nurse was talking all about how everything is billed separately and after Tricare pays we have to pay the remainder. Well according to Tricare if a place will take it then after they pay that is it we don't owe anymore so we shall see how that comes out. It sure isn't cheap. Just the basic procedure is over $2000 and I am not sure if that was both eyes or just one!! :o So then on Wednesday we had a viewing and funeral and reception. Kelly wanted me to keep it quiet, but now it doesn't matter. Tom's dad died on Friday. He had cancer and had suffered for around 3 years or so. He has been in hospice at home several months but they about 2 weeks ago they had to move him into a residential facility. Pat says he communicated, but was not sure he knew where he was. I felt so bad for them and my poor grandson had a stiff upper lip for quite awhile but then fell apart. It just broke my heart to see this 6 foot teenager who is the light of my life crying. His granddad and I just gave him big hugs and kisses and told him it was going to be alright and that we loved him. Kelly was pretty standoffish, but that was her decision not ours. Her dad tried to hug her and she wanted no part of it. I had decided if she would speak to me, I would talk to her otherwise I wasn't making the effort. She spoke to me like I was a neighbor down the street and when we left Pat's she told me thank you for coming and I told her to take care and patted her arm and that was it. Tom's family were very gracious to us and kind. They had been married 57 years. So that took up a good part of the day and my blood sugar dropped when we left the funeral home, (stressful situations can do that to me) and so we had to detour to a McD"s before going to Pat's house. I gobbled down some fries and a soda, but it took awhile not to be shaky. Jack's hand is progressively worse. He hurt so much last night it woke him up. None of the medication even helps nor does his brace. He said the pain is really bad now and he still has two weeks before surgery. I am very angry about the delay, but nothing we can do about it. Jean: Steam punk is an unusual style and I don't know why I like it because it is kind of weird. It always reminds me of the movie, "Around the World in Eighty Days" and the weird stuff that was in his house. I will give a couple examples of steam punk décor. The gear wall art with the clock is the clock that is coming today. It is all about things like airships, gears, trunks, and goggles, corsets, etc. I have no idea why I like the stuff as it is kind of strange, but I just do. I have to contain myself as Jack would have a fit if I put that owl or octopus in our home! He hasn't seen the gear clock so it should be interesting what he will say about it. He hasn't said anything about my Salvador Dali art work and pillows. As for the knitting, the wedding blanket is for my great niece who is getting married in March and her sister is the one pregnant and getting the yellow set, which turned out so pretty. I don't even like these two girls as they have always been spoiled and petulant and the one plain rude. I love their mother though so am doing it more for her. I tore the whole wedding thing out as I didn't like it at all and am now going to knit a chevron blanket for her. It is more a modern young style I think. Well I better hop to it and get some breakfast and get upstairs and get the bed made and showered and such. I have to leave at 8:30 as I have a first appointment. Have a great day everyone. |
Good Afternoon! It's another beautiful day in my neighborhood, sunny and no wind with sliding doors and windows open. I went to get my nails done first thing this morning, then made a stop at the grocery store on my way home. This afternoon I've been on the computer looking for airline tickets. I find it very hard to believe there are only two or four tickets left on certain flights. How dumb do they think the average person might be?! My stepmom fell and dislocated her hip again. She was in surgery this morning and has now tested positive for MRSA which, when I googled it, seems to be common in care centers. It seems like one thing has led to another every since she fell the first time, after the first of the year.
"Gma," you have been busy too! It has got to cool down sooner or later, and looks like you get the later. ;) I'm glad you got your eye dates set; I'm sure it will go well. Everyone I know say, "there's nothing to it!" Since his grandparents lived so close to him, I know his grandpa's death was hard on Thomas. Does Thomas still live across the street? He would a comfort to his Grandma I think. I can't help but think if Jack made a pest of himself at the surgeon's office, every day, they would move his surgery up on the calendar. :dunno: I googled steam punk when you mentioned it, and saw some of the pictures. We had a similar clock in the gift shop -- $175! I didn't think anyone would buy it but someone did. I hope your great nieces appreciate their gifts! The mail should be here by now and I have a few dishes to do. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day! |
Good morning to you all. It is 76 here at the moment but that is sure gonna change by midday. The temps are staying high and looks like no rain in the foreseeable future.
I got my hair done yesterday and came home and started the wedding blanket over. I don't know if I am going to like this pattern either, but I have to knit quite a bit before I can determine that for sure. It may be the dark gray that is throwing me off. I would never make something that color as it seems to dreary but it is one of her colors so I have to go with it. We watched most of the Cubs game then headed to bed last night. Nothing shaking at our house. I got up this morning and unpacked the clock as I am cleaning downstairs and had a sneaking suspicion it was filled with Styrofoam. Sure enough and I have the little pebbles all over the carpeting I have to vacuum up. I took all the boxes and packing outside so it won't keep popping back up. If we do get rain before Wed of next week so be it. I really like the clock. I hope we can get it hung this weekend along with the art. I ordered a pair of glasses just like the ones I have. I actually reordered and changed my right eye prescription to zero on everything. That way maybe after my right eye surgery I can see a little bit and not be totally screwed up vision wise until the other eye is done. Jean: Jack has complained a few times but she says they have been booked up solid with no cancellations. For one thing he only does surgery at certain places on certain days and because he is having the 4 hr involved one it has to be done at the hospital. They guy only operates one day at the hospital so that is the hold up. All his other surgeries are at clinics. I paid less that that, but I did pay over $100 for it. I tried to order 2 other clocks from two other places, both were under $100 but each one got cancelled because it couldn't be fulfilled so..... Your poor stepmom. I am surprised they can continue to fix it when it has been broken over and over. The scary thing is every time an elderly person breaks a hip the likely hood of pneumonia exists from being in bed, etc and not moving around. I will say a pray for her. You all have a great weekend. I am going to have some breakfast then tackle my dirty house. |
Good Evening! It's been another nice day in my neighborhood. I was invited to join a group of ladies for lunch, strictly social. The hostesses belong to our church so we met there. The speaker was a young gal who is general and marketing manager for our local town; it used to be the chamber of commerce but called by another name, "Storm Lake United" now. She has lots of enthusiasm which we need. I stopped by the gift shop to do the end of the week paperwork and bring the money home to count. The coffee and gift shop will be closed on Monday so I will have to guard the deposit until Tuesday. Bob offered to cook supper because I still had salads to make for the lake tomorrow.
"Gma," will the wedding blanket have another color besides gray? I misspoke about my stepmom. :o Her daughter said she was in surgery but when I talked to her last night, the surgeon was the one to put her hip back in place. No surgery but she has to wear the awful brace again. She has become very demanding and "crabby;" she was mad at my brother-in-law because he took too long to walk down the hall to the restroom. That attitude is not like her at all. I think the cycle of her falling, being confused, uti challenges, etc., has begun. Her daughter thinks the assisted living will send her packing to the care center. Bob was kind enough to cut up the Snickers and mix them in the Cool Whip while I started on the popcorn salad. When I stand at the counter for a long time I get a catch in my lower back so have to take a break. My break is over and I need to finish my salad. I know it is September but I'm still in summer mode. Hope you all enjoy the long weekend. |
It's around 2 am and I had to come downstairs and sleep the rest of the night in the recliner so thought I'd just go ahead and post. I was coughing a lot and disturbing Jack.
I told Jack the projects I wanted done this weekend. I told him he can do them anytime in the three days. He went and picked up his FMLA papers so they can be turned into the city. So, that's one thing done already. I ordered an inexpensive pair of glasses with a clear lense in right eye and prescription in left. I got an email from them to check with my eye doctor as the prescription was imbalanced. I'll say. I emailed them back the situation and told them to just make them imbalanced like that. I wanted something right away and not have to wait to have my current glasses fixed. It was worth the $20. I have ordered from this place several times and though it takes abot 3 weeks they do a good job and are cheap. Jean: That poor woman. I imagine I would be crabby too. I am awful when I hurt badly so can understand her snappishness. I have an old, comfortable computer chair thathe seat is tornup and duct taped and I take it into the kitchen and crank it up high as it will go when my back hurts when cooking. I use it to fold clothes out of the dryer too. Because my knee is so bad, I don't stand straight and my back will start aching. This works well and I just keep it in the big pantry room. We are having lasagna for dinner tonight. It's hard in summer not to bake things in oven. We jut have to hpe it doesn't heat the house up too much as our kitchen is semi open concept and the stove sits right at the opening to the living area. The blanket is gray heather and amethyst (plum color),) which are her wedding colors. I have already done three "panels" of the chevrons, gray, plum color, then gray and it looks ok so will just continue it. Hope everyone has a great Saturday. |
