Default Steel Magnolias #13

Evening gals. I was at the hair stylists all morning and came home and did laundry and worked on the other bootie. I am almost finished with it. My ribbon won't be here until Thursday or so and I will see how I like it so I can get the stuff wrapped and the box shipped out over the weekend.

I decided to go back to the dark red as I like it better that the more carrot color she had on me for the last three months. Jack likes it better too.

My ostomy scar is driving me nuts tonight. It is stinging like the dickens. I don't know why it does that, but every once in awhile it will start stinging like bee stings and it sometimes won't go away for quit awhile. Rubbing it seems to help, but you quit and it comes back. It is stinging right now. Ugh!

Susan: It would be so hard for you to breathe here. You would never get out of the house. I think our heat index has been running about 15 degrees about the temp because of the awful humidity. Our temps are in the 90's too and we have had a lot of rain coming through for the last three weeks or so and it drives it right up. I like bread and butter pickles, but I don't have anywhere to store them if I can some of them.

Jean: The kids are brave to go into Sturgis. I sure wouldn't. There are ok people, but from what I have ever read about it there is a lot of fights, drunkiness, etc. They also draw motorcycle gangs, which is scary IMO.

Everyone have a good evening.

Good Morning! We are having a morning of rain, thunder, lightning, and darkness! Feels like 9:00 at night instead of morning. I get to stay home today! Have laundry to do, dust/fur bunnies to chase, and the never ending sorting and pitching piles to do work on. Have been watching the hoopla about Mrs. Trump "stealing" parts of MO's speech last night. I personally think she is first class, and I am impressed she is a US citizen! If the media would stay out of politics and the police abuse/shootings I would be a happy camper! It's gotten so you don't know who or what to believe.

"Gma," thank you for starting the new thread! Did you pick another bootie pattern or revise the one you already finished? I know you said you ripped it out once, but maybe I am confused. So what else is new?! Jason has assured me they camp where the "old foggies" like us camp. Many of them just go to people watch and get together with people they have met over the years; they don't even ride. Jason and Amanda like to ride the trails; they go with friends from Sioux Falls and "don't hang out in the bars" where the action is. Since he is a sheriff's reserve deputy he can't get into any trouble. I still worry about them being there.

My dryer should be finished and I have a few dishes to do that didn't fit in the dishwasher. Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!

Good morning to you ladies. Gonna be around 100 they are saying. I was going to wait and get my nails done until tomorrow, but I may just go today. They need a fill badly and my toenails need trimming and new polish.
I bought a new color and it is Hello Kitty. It is OPI and is called "Super Cute in Pink."

I want to get upstairs and clean bathrooms, but that will wait until tomorrow if I go to get my nails done today. Had a rough night sleeping last night as allergies acted up so am kind of tired this morning. Don't know if I will get a nap in or not.

Pork chops are in the forecast tonight. I put them on the griddle to cook without any oil or whatever. I am going to make some sweet corn to go with it tonight and maybe a salad. I think for me at least I will slice up a tomato. I will be sad when summer is over and you get crummy tomatoes again.

Jean: With regards to the bootie. I completely made three of them and tossed all of them in the trash. Each one had a flaw in it some way. The yarn is acrylic so she can put them in the washer and dryer, but acrylic yarn tends to split and this sure did a lot and with the tiny needles it made it worse. I figured ripping it out would weaken the yarn even further and since I had plenty of yarn just threw them out. I now have a good looking pair and am waiting for the ribbon to come tomorrow then will finish them up. I will post a picture of the blanket, hat and shoes when I am completely finished before I wrap them. Well, I hope they have a good time. I agree with what is going on and the media. I am so sick of it all I have quit reading the stuff. I ignore posts on FB about any of it and have gotten so tired of reading about shootings and homicides here in Memphis, I don't even read the local news. I did see a poor your man was found last week shot to death. He was a white guy in a pick up truck that had hit a utility pole and witnesses found him unconscious and bloody in his truck, but EMT's couldn't save him. He lived with his mom and was in his 20's. I gave a $50 donation to a go fund me account as he is an only child and she is a single mom and doesn't have money for his burial. I know the Bible talks about the evil that will come about, but it sure is hard to see this day in and day out.

Here's the start of the afghan for my friend for her birthday. I am going to make her a couple matching pillows.

Everyone have a great day today.

Good Afternoon! It's "only" 86 degrees but with the humidity it feels like 97 and climbing -- not a nice day to stand around outside. I went to get my nails done this morning and planned to make a quick grocery stop afterwards. Discovered my list was sitting at home on the counter so came home and stayed. Bob was coming home for an early lunch because he was meeting with electricians at church. He's been working on the light project for two plus years and finally found someone from another town who would come and look at what we have, then work up a proposal. None of the locals did anything except make promises to take a look.

"Gma," I will have to see if I can find "Hello Kitty" polish. OPI has the best names for their polish! We haven't had any sweet corn yet but I did see a truck the other day. We usually get Missouri corn first, and it's just not the same. I saw where a KC cop was killed yesterday. He was arriving to assist officers already on the scene and was shot in his car. The afghan is so pretty! I'm sure your friend will enjoy it. I have a half done one (yarn might be rotten by now!) that I stopped working on when we moved to MN, and then couldn't figure out which row I was on to get going again.

I need to get going to the store, and maybe WM since I need canned cat food too. Hope you all enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!

Good morning. It is really heating up here this morning. I know Jack has to be miserable out at the plant.

Jack told me last night the foreman is leaving August 5 and they want him to apply for the job. I don't know if he will as the last one they wanted him to apply for they didn't even interview him just hired someone from the outside. I told him to do what he wanted but it would be mostly paperwork and dealing with the plant manager who is a jackass but it would keep him sitting at a desk most of the time. Bad thing is being on call 24/7 and not getting paid for it unless he has to go out there. It is up to him but I am hoping he takes it if offered. He is 66 years old and doing the job of someone 45 or less. We shall see.

I was going to go and get my nails done today but my hands hurt so much I don't want anyone messing with them so I will go tomorrow. I got the bed made and put a load of laundry in but that's about it for me today. I can't even touch my knitting.

Jean: Knitting does teach you patience for sure. I had to rip out about 5 rows of this blanket because I purled a row that should have been knitted and it messed up the whole thing. I used to have sweet corn almost every night when we were kids. We would have it with lovely tomatoes and fried potatoes and sometimes mom threw in hot dogs as a treat. I liked just the corn and tomatoes myself.

Hope everyone has a good day today. I noticed the kids are still in Colorado I guess. My dil's birthday is today.

Good Morning! It's another 86 degree morning but feels like 97 because of the humidity. I hope the air conditioner hangs in there! I just got home from my once a month coffee date. After a very large berry muffin and coffee, I am not hungry for lunch. Bob will be home soon, and expecting something to eat. Leftovers most likely.

"Gma," I hope Jack applies for the job if he thinks he would like it. Guess sitting at a desk but putting up with being on call 24/7 and the boss is a toss up. I hope your hands are feeling better. My coffee date friend said her arthritis aches more when the humidity is higher. I could make sweet corn. my meal and forget the rest. I know eating too much isn't good but we have it available for such a short time.

I hear the garage door going up so time to think about lunch. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day! I am off to do cat chores after lunch.

Good morning to you all. We are expecting 109 heat index here today and I have to go and get my nails done or they are going to start coming off as they are grown out.

Here is the baby gift. I finally got the ribbon. I included a pic of the shoes alone but it is a bit fuzzy as I just cropped it from the big picture. I hope she likes it. I don't know if I told you before but her sister is throwing her shower and asked instead of cards to buy a children's book. I found a quote I thought was neat and wrote it in the book. "There are perhaps no days of our childhood we lived so fully as those we spent with a favorite book."
–Marcel Proust I have the gifts wrapped and boxed up now I just have to wait until I can text my sister and find out if she wants me to ship it to her apartment or work. She has trouble getting packages at the apartment I guess and has to always wait until Saturday to go pick them up.

Jean: I don't know what he will decide and then he may not even be considered, which won't bother him either. Like you said the headache of being a boss and dealing with the plant manager versus not having to climb and work with his hands all the time would be a toss up. I can't eat a lot of corn because of my colon, but I do have a couple pieces now and then and do miss it a lot. Jack likes corn, but isn't crazy about corn on the cob for some reason. Have you ever had corn fixed the Mexican way? I know it is going to sound totally gross but it is the best stuff ever. Instead of butter they cover it with mayonnaise and sprinkle on paprika and a bit of Mexican cheese. I never thought I would like it, but is really, really good. Kelly got me to try it one time as there is this little restaurant we went to for lunch and they have it.

Well, I need to get hopping if I am going to go and get my nails done. I like to be there when they first open so I don't have to wait very long. Have a great weekend everyone.

Good Afternoon! Hot and humid again today. I feel so sorry for the birds and animals, etc., living outside. I put out fresh cold water several times during the day. I went to do my cat chores this morning; I drove around all of the "road closed" signs and never saw a worker. The work extends through the next two small towns and beyond. The road looks done except for painting the lines. Our county fair is on right now but I bet the attendance is down because of the heat. We are going to the cabin tomorrow and I stopped to pick up meat to grill. Some of the relatives next door are leaving on Sunday, going back to Florida.

"Gma," I was going to go for a pedicure this morning but decided to wait until next week. The baby items are beautiful, and I love the color! I like the quote you wrote in the book. That is so true! Maddy always has a book with her, and usually asks for books as gifts. Bob always has things he orders shipped to the office. I sent for a couple things for Maddy's birthday. They came UPS and the dope left them in the middle of the garage floor, never rang the bell. The box was so filthy Bob opened it in the garage and brought the gifts inside. I have seen the Mexican corn on FB but I have never tried it. Sometimes my stomach doesn't like much mayo. Is there any taste to paprika? I always thought it was for looks. My mom used to sprinkle it on deviled eggs and potato salad.

Bob just got home so time for lunch! Hope you all enjoy a great day!

Good morning! I am not sure how much it cooled off last night. It got up to 112 heat index yesterday!! My feet swelled some from the heat so my sandals were a bit tight yesterday.

Went and got my nails and toes done and had a new gal. She did a great job but she was a little rough. She'd yank on my hand and when my foot would slip on the step stool thing she'd yank it back up. I don't know where all the old gals are unless they put them at another salon. There are 3 of them missing and have been for several weeks now. The Hello Kitty color is nice, sort of an orchid color.

Jack has his therapy appointments next week and then one the following Monday. First off, I didn't like the surgeon. He was pretty full of himself for one thing and he was young. The youth thing was that he is all about research and statistics, etc. These therapy appointments are not to end the pain but to teach Jack to "cope" with it. How dumb*** is that? He also went on and on about losing money because insurance won't pay for the proper surgical procedures. And that is our fault how??? Anyway, Jack is doing them then his dr apot is a week from Tuesday. If this jerk doesn't schedule surgery then I told Jack to tell him thanks but he's going to find someone who will do it and go back to Dr. Manugian and get a referral to somebody else. I understand caution and all that but I think nowadays bottom line is $$$$. I mean look what they put me through before they did my hysterectomy! Poor guy is in pain, the joint has degenerated and the only way to fix it is surgery so do the surgery. Even Dr Manugian said the joint had degenerated from the first xrays he took. I may not go with him as I may lose my temper and say something I shouldn't.

Jean: Our UPS guy showed up here at 8:30 last night. I really don't like having the gate unlocked once it gets dark. We have had some incidents here in town and these have been in broad daylight!! A 95 yr old lady walking with two canes was about a foot from a store door at the mall and a guy comes up behind her and grabs her purse and drags her down the street. She couldn't let go because it was tangled in her canes. She's in the hospital. A guy working for an apartment complex here in the city mowing the lawn was beaten, dragged into the woods and robbed. The day before same complex a kid was beat up and his bike stolen. A guy pulled into his driveway, got out to go into the house and was beat and robbed at gunpoint. This all happened this week and there were more than this. IMO this blasted black lives matter crap is causing them to just all out get bold and do whatever they want figuring the police are too scared to do anything because of all the shootings. A couple weeks ago they had this huge protest and blocked the interstate over the I-40 bridge. An ambulance with a sick child trying to get to the hospital couldn't because these jack***** refused to move! They actually had to unload the kid and pass him off to police officers to take to the hospital. The mayor and police director passed it off as a peaceful protest. Disgusting cowards. I would have called out the National Guard and been done with it. All we can hope is the election people are fed up enough to change. I blew my stack at this dope and unfriended her on my FB page. She lives in England and was spouting off about our country with her friends. I let them have it about them living in a socialist country where everything is free this and that, and to mind their own business when they don't live here.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Good morning, ladies! Another 95 degree high humidity day. It's been raining at night for over a week so everything is still nice and green.

Yesterday was Needle in Hand bee and after that Glory and I had a late lunch at the Crab Shack. I had flounder that had been caught that morning and coleslaw. It's always so good and filling.

There was a fire in the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (car accident) and they had to evacuate 85 people from the tunnel. It was so smoked filled you couldn't see your hand in front of your face, a 3.5 mile walk up hill to get out. I'd had died. They treated a bunch of people for exhaustion after they got out. I used to go through there twice a day when I worked southside. Now I go through the Monitor Merrimac tunnel when I go to the quilt shop but I think I'll start going over the James River Bridge even if it takes longer.

Faye, that doctor must be crazy. I'd look for another one. The baby gift is lovely and I love the afghan colors and pattern, too. The Mexican corn sounds interesting. I love corn so I'll try it.

Jean, there are different varieties of paprika. I have Hungarian that I use in cooking. The stuff that's cheap is for looks and has little flavor. There's smoked paprika, too. I decided to read all of David Baldacci's books again - 43 of them. He's from Richmond, about 50 miles from me. He has several series: King and Maxwell, The Camel Club, John Puller, Amos Decker, Will Robie, A. Shaw, and the 39 Clues books for youngsters. I've learned some history from his books, too. Your kids are probably safer at Sturgis than going to the mall these days. It's prettu bad when we have our instructors telling us what to do if someone starts shooting at the Y.

Have a wonderful day.

Good Afternoon! We are at the cabin, drove up in the rain after I did cat chores. The wind was blowing when we got here and white caps rolling straight in. It finally changed direction and calmed down, sun is out now and a teeny bit cooler. The kids turned the air on and have fans blowing the cooler air around. The small air conditioner probably hasn't been on in ten years plus, but working like a charm. It seems like Sunday for some reason.

"Gma," it's too bad Jack's original doctor couldn't do his surgery and have it over with. It seems like a mute point to do therapy now. I know big cities have crime but your's seem above and beyond. I don't blame you for keeping the gate and doors locked. I keep doors locked when I am home and we never used to. Times change, and sometimes not for the better. I almost wish FB would ban anything political! Did you happen to watch Trump's speech? He talked about the drunk illegal Mexican, who was released on bail, after killing a young woman who had just graduated from college hours earlier -- that happened in Iowa. He is now nowhere to be found, surprise!

Susan, we are back to green grass after the recent rains here. Nice! We used to travel a short tunnel in Minneapolis and I never gave accidents a thought until Princess Diana. I don't blame you for taking the bridge. Thanks for the paprika info, not being a good cook I didn't know that. Mass shootings can happen anywhere. When we started having practice evacuation drills during workshop days, we all thought it was so dumb. Not any more!

Bob is packing up so guess we are heading home soon. Hope you all enjoy the rest of the day!

Good Afternoon! The weather has changed to a bearable 81 degrees and much lower humidity. It's nice outside even though a stiff breeze is blowing. We made a road trip to visit my stepmom this afternoon. Her daughter is gone for a week so the visit was our good deed to start off the week. I came home to water all over the counter and dripping on the floor. I had a bag of ice cubes out to fill a glass to take with me, and left it open on the counter. I don't know what I was thinking about. I should do some laundry but am thinking "later."

I also need to get papers and magazines ready to recycle and clear off the kitchen counter. Not much newsy going on here today, and I like it like that! Hope you all are enjoying a nice Sunday!

Good morning everyone. It has been so very hot and humid here for several weeks now and we have been getting rain every evening around 5 pm or so and it makes it worse.

Jack left for work but will be home around 11:30 so he can go to his first therapy appointment. I am going with him because he may not feel like driving home depending on what they do to him. I am so sick of doctors thinking about money instead of patients. My opinion if you don't want to take Medicare than don't take Medicare patients. This place also is changing it's hours for hand stuff and will only be open until noon, Mon, Tues and Thur. Now how is a person supposed to do that without taking off work and not everyone can just take off work. GRRRRR!

We piddled around here yesterday but I never did get in here. I had to rip out a whole 4 pattern rows of the afghan as I made a mistake but that was ok. I am back to where I was and I have a lot of time to complete it.

Susan: OMG I would never have been able to walk that far out of the tunnel. We tried never to use it if we didn't have to. At least with the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel it goes under and over and under and over, but we never drove through it when we lived down there. I can't imagine how frightened the people in the tunnel had to be. Reminds me of that movie years ago with Sylvester Stallone I think where they got trapped because of an earthquake I think it was. Gives you the shivers. I like the Hungarian paprika too as it is a sweet paprika. I don't use paprika much at all though.

Jean: Hope your weekend at the cabin was nice. Had a laugh about the ice. Sounds like something I would definitely do. I ordered these insulated cup things that will hold 34 oz of drink, hot or cold. They are huge, but the bottom is narrow to fit into cup holders. They work pretty darn well. I put ice in them and a soda to see how long the ice would keep and it kept for a few hours actually. I put ice in a glass and it melts in a few minutes. Part of it is ice from the freezer doesn't have the preservative in it professional ice does so it doesn't last as long. We have these can cozys but the rubber around the top has stretched out and you go to pick it up and they slide so I don't use mine in the car anymore. I saw an ad of FB about come companies insulated cup and they wanted $50 for the thing!!! I read some posts and some lady kept talking about her Bubba cup so I looked it up on Amazon. There were different sizes and the one I bought was the largest and cost $15 apiece. A heck of a lot less than $50. What dope would spend that much money on a cup?

Well better get my day started. You all have a good start to the week.

Good Afternoon! Another nice day in my corner of the world, sunny, NO wind, and lower humidity. Counting went fast at church this morning because there wasn't much money. Much of the gift shop has been packed to get ready for the move so not much business there. I've been fighting a sinus drainage scratchy throat for a few days and drinking ice water or eating Popsicles. Bob brought home sweet corn this afternoon and that doesn't even sound good. I vacuumed fur bunnies and washed a couple loads of clothes this afternoon; that is the sum of my ambition for today!

"Gma," I suppose it will be Democrats on tv this week. "He said, she said, blah, blah, blah!" I hope Jack might get some relief from the therapy. On the other hand, that might put off having the surgery which might not be good either. I didn't know professional ice had preservatives in it. I meant to tell you I can get the same fruit bars you do. They are good, only I wish they would have assorted flavors in one box.

Bob is at a meeting but I should clean corn and have it ready to cook. I need to go to the grocery store tomorrow and can work on a list until he gets home. Hope you all are enjoying a nice day and evening!

Good morning ladies. The ac is running full tilt this morning. I never did cool off last night and got a terrible headache in bed so came downstairs, took some Tylenol and finally went back to sleep down here. Part of it is allergies too as I noticed I have a runny nose and scratchy ears this morning and a dull headache. I put an ice bag on my forehead. I have a headband that I use and it keeps it in place without having to hold it.

Jack had his first therapy appointment. The hand therapist wiggled it around and said she heard cracking and scraping. She told him it was just her opinion, but that she didn't feel the therapy sessions would help him at all that he needed surgery. Like we didn't know that already. He has another one this morning, one on Thursday, one on Monday than his ortho appointment a week from today. He said nothing she did helped him at all.

My sister got the box for my niece yesterday so that is all taken care of. I just hope she likes it. My sister opened the shipping box at work. I wonder if she thought I had just stuck the stuff in the box and she would get a sneak peek. Except for the book, it was all wrapped in shower paper so no sneak peek.

Jean: The black cherry bars are my favorite. I haven't tried my pomegranate ones yet. Hope you feel better soon. This weather is nuts this year for sure. I am sure the guys cutting the lawns and blowing leaves and such is not helping my allergies any. They were at it all day long yesterday. Last night one of our neighbors came to the front door and knocked and just kept knocking until Jack went and answered it. He wanted us to unlock our wifi so he could use it! Jack told him absolutely not. He gave him some sob story and Jack said no. This same guy came here in the spring in the morning and tried to sell me on the fact he had a college paper due and couldn't get it done and needed my wifi. I told him I don't know the password and not a lie, I don't. Jack set it up. Unless he does it online, which I doubt, he isn't in college as he is always home hanging with his homeboys out in his garage. They are definitely not the college types. I ignore the political stuff I am so sick of it all. I will vote for who I want to vote for and I don't need to listen to all the other stuff.

Everyone have a great day. I am going to pay bills.
