16:8 Intermittent Fasting (IF)
Hello, I'm looking for other people who are participating in IF, it doesn't matter to me if you are doing the 16:8 like I try to do or the 5:2 as recommended by others, like Dr. Fung in The Obesity Code. It is just easier for me to do the 16:8.
I am so thrilled with my progress I have made this month and would love to go on this journey with others! :D If there is already an active forum, I would love to participate in that as well. I'm looking forward to meeting anyone doing it or thinking of doing it. :) Don't be shy!! |
Great day today! By eating HFLC, my appetite is almost nonexistent. Hallelujah! I have set-backs with the weekends that I work. (Friday evening to Monday morning on-call) There was no way to have a consistent eating or fasting time. But, I have stopped working that job and will start a more regular schedule shortly. :D
I just started the IF March 23rd. I had already started a low carb for a few weeks prior, so, to switch to HFLC was pretty easy. This is 3 weeks and I've lost 8 pounds. :cheer: |
Hi, I have done the 16-8. It was easier for me to do the 16-8. My feeding window is 10 am to 6pm. My start date for IF is May 1. I have been doing low carb (Atkins) for 8 months but my weight loss has stalled. It’s time to do something different.
|
Good Evening Everyone
I've done 16:8, 5:2 and Fast 5. I had great success will all three. I'm currently in maintenance but would like to lose a couple of more pounds and make this my way of eating for life. I'm going to start 16:8 on Monday. I love the control that IF gives you. I look forward to chatting with you all  |
Great! People! :D
I started a new job last Monday and I haven't fasted since then. I think I will adjust my window to 12-8, I was doing 10-6, but, my lunch break is not till noon. I was eating breakfast every morning (@5:30!) I don't know if I was just nervous or actually hungry, LOL. I think I'll make a BPC to tide me over to lunch and see how it goes! Hi Valeriao! I am currently stalled with my weight loss, too. I'm not sure which factors are involved, starting the job, not fasting or what. But, I'm ready for the scale to move again! Still LCHF. I'm so glad y'all chimed in! Lovemylife, congratulations on meeting your goal! |
Good morning, my first day doing IF was a success. It was easier this time.
|
Good! Mine was too! I went from 6pm last night to 12 noon! Whoop, I was not hungry in the least (except, like 11:50am) and I did not use BPC. Just drank plain coffee. I feel accomplished! :D

Hello! Another IF'er here
Hi Everyone,
I'm late to the party! I'm following Jason Fung's guidelines in his book. I mix up my fasts, depending on what is happening that week (e.g., I find it easier to fast longer when I'm at the office than on a weekend.... weekends I tend to go from dinner to break fast at noon the next day). I would *love* to receive and give support/encouragement online to others who are using I.F. Ahem, I learned the hard way not to bother trying to explain IF to those who haven't read JF's book ... the lectures went on and on and on re: calories in/calories out and willpower shaming. Cheers, BBB |
Hello everyone. This week was good. I stayed on program. For busy days, I made meals ahead of time.
Hi BrainBabiesBe! Thank you for the information on Dr. Jason Fung. I found him on YouTube. |
New Here!
Starting fresh! 335lbs. I have been educating myself and eating a lot healthier over the last year. Try to do non processed, real foods, and decrease meat consumption. I am ready. I recently have researched the intermittant fasting and have been doing it for over a week and have lost 3 lbs. I think this is my new way of life. I like it. I fast for 16 to 18 hours and eat for 5 to 6 hours a day. Easy for me and I have not really counted calories at all. Just trying my best to eat nutrient dense foods. I have never been a big breakfast person anyways. I am breaking my fast around 3 so I can go home and eat with my family normally. It is a good thing I am not eating at work as I am a operating room nurse and they always have crap being brought in by reps. I am just using my lunch time to read and drink water since I don't drink enough during the day.
;) |
im doing an easy version of 12:12. I eat between 8am and 8pm - struggling to get my 1400 calories in, usually end up about 1200.
|
I do a flexible IF. Right now I open the window at 11 am and I am not as strict about when it closes. usually around 8 or 9. But I often work evenings and I will be flexible with it when need be.
|
Hii I started 2 weeks ago
|
Hi, I have been doing the 16-8 for 14 days with no weight loss. The 16-8 is good for maintenance and my normal routine. However, I will be adding the 5:2 plan to see if I can break my weight loss stall.
|
I am doing IF with just one meal a day at dinner. I do not find it difficult to fast until 7 pm for dinner, and then can have a real dinner, not a "diet dinner". I also try to stay low on carbs, especially grains. I am a big fan of Jason Fung; I think he has the real science of metabolism behind his plans.

slimmer_me I tried that for awhile. My digestion does not work well that way! Even within my normal roughly 8-10 hour window I do 3 meals, a medium size breakfast, a small lunch, a medium-large dinner and occasionally a small post dinner snack. |
Thank you for your concern. I have been at the same weight for 3 months. I record everything I eat. The Atkins plan calories for women are 1500 to 1800 per day. I consume about 1400 calories. I know that I have a slow metabolism because of yo yo dieting in the past. I have done intermittent fasting in the past and been consistent with Atkins plan for 8 months. I am trying to find an IF plan that works for me.

It seems to have been pretty inactive lately. It was a long post and I won't repeat it here - here's a link to it should anyone wish to read it: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/5259984-post475.html I think OMAD is probably going to work for me better than any of the other methods. Glad to find someone else who is doing this as well. |
I have experimented with different IF models. I am doing the 18:6. I found Dr. Jason Fung’s Blog and put him on my favorite list. He gives a simply explanation on how insulin plays a part in calories. The Refrigerator and Basement Freezer illustration about calories was creative.

Pretty quiet here....hope everyone is doing well.
I am settling in well to the one meal a day routine. I had one night (last Sunday, I believe) where I went somewhat overboard, but other than that I am pleased with my progress. Again, I will not weigh myself, but I know I've lost some weight. Slow and steady is fine, and I know these 23-hour fasts are beneficial. I am also quite surprised at how much energy I have, something that has been in short supply in the past. |
I continue to like the one meal a day. I really don't feel hungry, and my energy level is fine.
|
Slimmer me, since this thread is really more for the 16:8 IF'ers, and it's pretty inactive, I decided to start a one meal a day support thread under General Diet Plans and Questions.
http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/gene...rt-thread.html You are welcome to join me there. I hope we can get others who are interested in the OMAD way of eating to chime in. |
I Hope It’s Ok To Bump This
I did IF for a few days and I believe I gained instead of losing... however the first time I did it I lost weight easily. I’m going to try it again and eat healthier and stick with it and see what happens.
This is the thread that brought me to this site lol |
Ms. Newbody, IF kicked months of gym going into much quicker progress for me. I am a calorie counter that ate any time. But structuring my consumption and gym time has allowed me to see results in a shorter time frame. From 206 to 192 over all of 2017. Twelve pounds more since I started IF on New Year's 2018 and it is the only thing I've done differently.
|
Is there anybody doing keto/IF who would like to be my weight loss buddy? I need someone to share the struggles and joy with. I have just re-introduced keto and I want to end up doing IF twice a day for 23 hours as per Obesity Code, but having anyone who follows at least somewhat similar diet would be amazing.
|
So I haven't really read up on it, but I understand what it entails. I guess I just have such a different sleep and work schedule than most. I normally work at 3am to 8am and then it varies at my other job as to what time I start and end work (retail). So sometimes it's hard when I don't get lunch until 5 or 6. I have to really modify it. I tend to go to the gym before job 1, so early early in the morning, to get it out of the way. And I usually set my eating to like 12:12, so that I can at least get one good meal in before I'm done for the night. I think my body would rebel if I did true 16:8, but I'm trying to work up to it. I just need an accountabilibuddy. Haha making up my own words. Hopefully this works for me along with diet.

Newbie here. Started yesterday on 16/8 but am using today since it's a new month.
|
Hi all! . This was a great week, I was able to stay on track and not binge! I found a way to suppress my appetite through the fasting and remained under my maintenance calories. Im so grateful for this thread!
|
6.5 pounds down in 9 days! Got motivated to go back to 16/8 and decided to cut simple carbs using the original Sugar Busters guidelines. Have never lost this much in that time-frame and have felt good doing it! Felt really hungry starting at 9 AM a few days, but riding out two hours hungry isn't that big of a deal. Love seeing that clock hit 11 AM on those days!
|
Hi everyone! I'm new here but not new to IF.
I typically eat from noon-6pm everyday and fast the rest of the day, with occasional 24 hr fasts every few weeks. I used to really struggle with boredom eating, emotional eating, and bingeing but fasting has done wonders in curbing those issues for me. I'm still about 40 lbs overweight, so my body definitely has enough built in fuel for a while and I certainly won't "starve" by going a day without food! Wishing all the best success to everyone! |
I am doing a combination of IF 16:8, with Bright LIne Eating. See my signature and am doing great. Actually as of today I am down 2 more lbs.
|
Hi Chiika . Welcome to 3FatChicks .I love IF but don't do a set schedule .There are several others here who fast in different forms .I would love to see this discussion tame off!
Tell us more about your WOE . |
I have tried 16:8 a few days or so but never committed in the past. I started again yesterday and have ordered The Obesity Code. It should be here Wednesday. I would like to spend most of the week eating whole type foods without sugar and alot of wheat. I hope this eating style will allow the occasional family meal or holiday pitch in within my eating window and my weightloss wont he totally thrown off. Sweets and carbs are triggers for me. With an eating window ending at 6 p.m. hopefully I wont let myself have a big night time snack.
|
Hi,
this is my first time doing this and it was a success. |
glad to see all these happened!

the 16-8 is good for maintenance and my normal routine. However, I will be adding the 5:2 plan to see if I can break my weight loss stall.

I'm currently in maintenance but would like to lose a couple of more pounds and make this my way of eating for life.
