Steel Magnolias ~ #7

GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS

I am one happy camper. I lost 7.7 pounds this week to bring my total loss to a whopping 111.4. I am so happy that this drink I do twice a day and eat one meal is working for me. All my clothes are getting loose and right now I can’t buy anything for I haven’t gotten that promised bank statement yet and I don’t want to say anything to these wonderful people here for I don’t want them to start buying me clothes also for they do so much for me now for they are true friends.

For awhile it was raining very hard and giving the area a nice watering. All the grass around here is so green it looks like Spring has Sprung already. It is still outside and last night the wind was blowing so hard and the thunder crashing I knew a storm was coming this way for sure. When it rains so hard it is hard to hear on my phone when someone calls so I have to tell them I have to call them back when it is quieter.

DONNA We aren’t leaving until this coming Saturday the 16th and plan to come back on Monday the 18th. They are having a pot luck on Sunday right after morning services then having the service to honor Will at 2 o’clock. The public (all his friends there) are welcome to that event I am told.

Jean 04-11-2016 06:22 PM

Happy Monday! We have sunshine again today! :cp: A breeze is blowing so the 46 degrees feels cold outside! This morning I went to the bank we have gone to for 40 years and got information on how to go online to check my debit card. There have been "gizmos" at Sioux City gas stations that read the credit/debit cards when inserted in the gas pumps, then money taken from the accounts. I won't bank online but at least will know when I used the card it is me and not someone else. We are counting church money on Wednesday this week but I made a stop at the hospital to drop off a check. We had a nice time at the anniversary party. It was typical small town, the couple has lots of relatives and friends there so lots of people. The groom, Bob, and two other guys shared war memories for an hour after the official end of the party time. We went out to eat afterwards, and then our friend treated us to the famous Blue Bunny ice cream cones. They have a gift shop along with the ice cream shop so think I will talk Bob into stopping sometime on our way to Sioux Falls. I'd like to get the kids t shirts with the bunny. We got our bank statements today and I was able to close my account so am finished with the incompetent bank! :cheer:

"Gma," I had to laugh at Jack taking the garbage out in his undies. When we lived in our other house, our garage was detached and a single driveway. Bob's car was always parked in the driveway. A family lived across the street and had four older, mentally challenged sons. One son, Mike, would come over to visit if Bob would be working in the yard or the garage. He would always ask, "what are you doing, Bob?" Bob would answer and then Mike would ask the same question again. One night Bob forgot to take the keys out of his car and remembered on his way to bed. It was summertime and dark so he ran out in his bright white undies . . . out of the darkness came "what are you doing, Bob?" We still laugh about that! Glad you are feeling better.

Maggie, :congrat: on the great loss! Drinking a meal would certainly solve the what to fix challenge. Do you still have a lot of your things in Kansas? Who will dogsit or does he get to go too?

Bob is at practice but will be home shortly. I'm thinking pizza sounds good for supper. :T Hope you've had a good day and enjoy the evening.

GOOD EVENING MAGNOLIAS

JEAN The gal here said I could leave him here and she would watch over him. Their dogs know him and no harm will come to him I am sure. She will take good care of him for he likes her very as much as she likes him. :cp:

gma22 04-12-2016 07:20 AM

Good morning to you all. Going to only get into low 60's by this afternoon but it will be partly sunny so that's ok.

I have to vacuum and mop early then get a shower and get back downstairs this morning. My best friend is going to call this morning and I don't want to be out of reach when she does. I have that hair appointment today and Tom is going to be coming over when he gets off work to discuss something with us so the day is going to be nuts for me.

I didn't finish downstairs yesterday as it was raining all day and I couldn't see mopping and having to do it all over again after Jack tracked in when he got home. I ended up having to mop anyway as Jack spilled a whole bottle of the flavored coffee creamer in the fridge. It was a horrible mess. I had to take everything out of the fridge in the bottom and wash it, veggie drawers, the glass shelving, all of the food packaging, everything. Everything was sticky including the countertops and floor. I wanted to strangle him as it was his fault for not shutting the bottle tightly in the first place the last time he had used it. when he pulled out the tea pitcher it fell over onto the shelf and poured out everywhere. That stuff is like glue, I swear. I got it all cleaned up and we ate a partially cold dinner as dinner was ready when he dumped the stuff and it had to be put on hold.

Maggie: Congrats on the loss.

Jean: I wear nightshirts and have taken trash to the corner a couple times or gone to get mail and gotten caught by someone. I figure I am more covered up than most people nowadays and nothing was showing. I got a giggle out of Bob getting caught out. I am an online banking gal for sure. We have a couple things that are auto paid, but for the most part I don't like that as I don't trust they won't double bill or whatever. I do however pay almost all of our bills online. I noticed the governing body over the postal system is forcing them to reduce stamps back to 47 cents. The article said they are going to be something like $2 billion short and work in the red every year. They are going to have to privatize it sooner or later and when they do the costs are going to skyrocket to mail stuff.

Everybody have a good day. I have to get the day going.

Jean 04-12-2016 03:06 PM

Good Afternoon! The thermometer says it is 55 degrees outside but the wind is blowing as always. The sun is shining and I'm hoping the wind will calm down by soccer game time. I had my nails done first thing this morning and then went to the Hallmark store for April and May cards. I couldn't believe how much their cards have gone up! I wonder how the cards with beads, sequins, and bows survive the mail. I refuse to spend $6.99 for a card that used to sell for $.35! We got a phone call last night inviting us to Bob's aunt's 99th birthday party in May. She is more spry than I am and a delightful lady! Beth and Jason both plan to go with us plus their families. I doubt either of Bob's brothers will come back, but we never know about them.

Maggie, I'm glad you have a nice dog sitter! :D

"Gma," I just found a "mess" on a refrigerator shelf this noon! We couldn't figure what leaked but it wiped up easily except the very edge where the plastic framework is across the back. I will have to take it out and soak it. I need to clean all the shelves and drawers. We have all of our utility bills auto paid; we did that several years ago when a whole section of town didn't get water bills and got letters threatening to turn the water off. Of course the water people blamed the post office and the post office said they never got the bills to deliver. I just don't trust technology enough to protect my hard earned money. I know someday we will have to go paperless but people in our local bank don't bank online either so I'm not the only one. I saw where stamps are going down two cents too, they will probably go up ten next month!

I need to change clothes and figure out what to wear to keep warm. I can only get so many layers under my jacket. Enjoy the rest of your day!

gma22 04-13-2016 07:14 AM

Good morning to you all. Going to be beautiful here today. It was lovely yesterday but a bit on the cool side for me.

I had a hair appointment in the afternoon. I never go in the afternoon as I don't want to have to wait if she is backed up a long time, but no one was there. It was quiet except for their crazy music. She changed my color somewhat and is in love with it. I am not sure. She lightened the ends a lot using pink then put a copper toner on it. It isn't weird, just lighter than I think I like. I really like the strong copper color, but I may grow to like this wearing it a bit.

Tom came early yesterday and had my grandson with him. OMG, ladies, he has grown about another 3 inches since we saw him in February. He is taller than his dad now and as tall as his granddad, who is 6'2." I came up to just below his collarbone and I am 5'7." He is such a sweety. I told him we needed to do lunch or something and he said just to text him when we wanted to go. Most teenagers, especially boys don't want to spend time in public with their dodgy old grandparents, but he actually enjoys it.

Jack just left for work and I am going to get upstairs and put away clothes and clean bathrooms today I think. If my laziness changes my mind I am going to knit and read. I am reading this silly little series of books about a private investigator who has learned she is a witch. Very light reading and fun.

Saturday we are cleaning out the rest of the garage and I am making Jack move the bbq grill onto the deck so we can use it. He bought the expensive thing last year including a cover for it and now doesn't want to put it outside.

Jean: I didn't even wear a jacket at all yesterday and wore capris, t-shirt and sandals. I opened the windows instead of the ac in the car and it was really nice. Hopefully, it will warm up there soon for spring. We are supposed to be in the 80's next week. I always get a kick out of extremely elderly people who still have spunk. They have such great stories to tell. I was talking to my stylist yesterday and she said I should write down all the stories about my childhood living in our little town for our grandsons to have and pass on. I told her some of the things and she said she thought they were neat so maybe I will.

Everyone have a great day today.

Jean 04-13-2016 04:05 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining, the wind has calmed down to a strong breeze, and it's 72 degrees this afternoon. It took a while for me to balance my part this morning, no mistakes just several different "pots" to divide the money into. It was auto bank contribution time which always slows me down. I had lunch bunch this noon. There was only three of us, but we don't see each other in between lunch times so always have things to talk about. We sat for two hours in 25 mph winds at the soccer games last night. One game we faced the wind and the other had the wind at our backs. I dressed for it but by the time the last game was about over my legs were getting cold. Both kids won their games and played well. :D

"Gma," Ian just went for his baseball physical and he is 6', 160#s. I hope he doesn't grow much more although Amanda's dad and brother are both 6'6". Grandkids grow up too fast! :twirly: I think reading and knitting sound like more fun than cleaning! I just read an article about an older (than I!) lady who wrote a cookbook from her mother's notes written on scratch paper and some newspaper clippings. Years ago there used to be radio programs which included recipes, friends' recipes, etc. She included dates and notes that her mom wrote on the recipes. I think you writing your childhood memories would be a good idea!

I need to get busy and vacuum fur bunnies. Enjoy the rest of your day!

gma22 04-14-2016 06:10 AM

Good morning all. I hear the birds chirping outside this morning and wonder if we are expecting more rain.

Nothing much going on in my part of the world. We have a serial rapist here they can't catch and don't have any evidence who it might be even. They have no dna off of any of the women and no description either. Scary stuff as he targets apartments and breaks in through a window or door, holds them at gun point, rapes and robs them. This has been going on since 2014 and they are just now thinking it is a serial thing as the MO as they say all are the same. One happened not more than a mile from here in a very nice apartment complex.

Jean: We have experienced those windy games in the past when we used to go to my nephew's high school football games. I saw on tv last night that it was really cold in Chicago for the Cubs game. One of my friends said the fans looked more like they were at a football game all bundled up. Always a nice feeling when the money always comes together right. It is always nice to catch up with friends. I just talked to my bff on Tuesday. We try and talk every other week or so. I so infrequently get to see her as she lives in Indiana.

Everyone have a great Thursday.

Jean 04-14-2016 08:36 PM

Good Evening! It was a beautiful, warmer day in my corner of the world today! The wind still blew but not as hard. I fixed a roast for dinner this noon and my house still "smells" like it even with the deck doors open. I went to crafty club this afternoon. We mostly discussed taking meals to our friend's family even though she is failing fast. I have no clue what to make at this point but have a week to decide. I thought we would make a whole meal as a group but others thought we should take a complete noon or evening meal on our own. Not looking forward to delivering it! I am home tomorrow all day! :cheer:

"Gma," do your birds only chirp when it's going to rain? ;) It's been so cold in the mornings I haven't really paid attention to the birds chirping. Any kind of rapist is scary! When we were at the soccer game, Will got an alert on his cell phone saying a guy offered a girl a hundred dollar bill to get in his van. It happened not too far from their house which is within a few blocks of the kids' schools. There are some sick people out there! I have a good friend and we talk at least once a week, usually for at least an hour. :D

I need to unload the dishwasher and then sew a button on Bob's shirt. Hope you enjoy the evening!

Maggie 04-15-2016 10:02 AM

Good Day

GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS

I turned off my computer yesterday when I was finished with it and when I turned it back on the screen was blank and wouldn’t come back on. I don’t know what happened to it at all but I turned it on a little while ago and it came back on again. When mine was blank I used one of Will’s computers and he of course didn’t have the things that I have on mine but I did download the 3fc on it and was able to read it. I find he had a complete different pattern of using the computer then I do. It is a much bigger laptop than mine and does have an internal place to place CD’s where I have one that plugs in to mine and works with it so I can watch movies on my computer if I choose to do so. I hesitate to turn off my computer now.:?:

My host is gone for a couple of hours so that leaves sleeping Beanie and me here alone which is fine in the day time. At night it is comforting to know he is in the house. His wife will be home tomorrow evening.

Jean 04-15-2016 03:44 PM

Good Afternoon! It's hazy with 75 degrees (nice!) and 25 mph winds (not so nice!). I made a WM run this morning and have been doing laundry. Bob is out "somewhere" helping to set up a planter with his farmer friend. My craft club friend died last night. The funeral is Tuesday. I was supposed to train a new gal in the gift shop but we will be going to the funeral instead.

Maggie, I hate it when the technology stuff doesn't work right! :tantrum: I have zero knowledge and less patience; Bob is even worse. We both know just enough the be dangerous! Are you packed and ready for your trip to Kansas?

"Gma" and Susan, what are you up to today? :twirly:

We are leaving early tomorrow morning for Zowie's soccer game in Sioux Falls. Just found out that Ian is out for track and ran in a race yesterday. We both think track meets are as much fun as watching paint dry. ;) Hope you all are having a good day!

Maggie 04-16-2016 11:02 PM

Rainey Day

GOOD Late Evening MAGNOLIAS

Good evening Magnolias. We have arrived in Hays now and I am a bit tired and am going to bed and will post again tomorrow.

gma22 04-17-2016 06:42 PM

Afternoon gals. Been real busy the last couple days and just couldn't get in here until now. Our weather here is beautiful and poor Jack just got called out to the plant so I hope it is something he can fix quickly and won't have to be out there after dark. I hate for him to be alone out there after dark working.

I did a load of laundry and put stuff away and have been reading today. I have got to get upstairs tomorrow and get bathrooms cleaned and I have a pile of clothing to put away.

Jean: Some of the things that happen in this town are so evil it scares me. We have had two or three situations with children even one baby who have been hurt and or killed by someone, mainly a parent or boyfriend. Makes me sick to think of people hurting children. I wish they would use the Bible's way of justice. It wouldn't take long to straighten this old world up if they got the punishment that fit the crime. Was the lady who died the one you mentioned on FB with cancer? I am so very sorry. It is so hard to lose someone you care about and have known for a long time.

Maggie: I hope you don't have anymore trouble with your computer. We have a full sized pc, Jack has a nice laptop, an Ipad, an Iphone and I have an Ipad and an Iphone so we can pretty much keep on top of things if one causes us trouble. Hope you and Beanie are doing well.

You gals have a nice evening. I am going to finish up a book I am reading in a series. They are kind of silly but an easy read.

Jean 04-17-2016 08:31 PM

Good Evening! It was a nice day in my neighborhood today. Sunshine off and on, NO wind, and 70 degrees this afternoon. Bob sang at church this morning, the sermon was either longer than usual or the children's sermon was longer, but we ran over the hour which is unusual. I've been doing laundry and dusting as the sun moved around so I could see what really needed attention. :o Yesterday was a long day going to the soccer game. Zowie's team won so that was good. We went out of our way coming home to look at a fishing boat.

Maggie, I hope you had a nice day today. Wishing you a safe trip back to Texas.

"Gma," yes, my crafty club friend is the one who died. She did so well with her eye surgery last fall. What I don't understand is that the tumor was confined; all the scans and blood work came back clear afterwards. Just before Easter she found out the cancer had spread to her liver. Her daughters live in California and her son is in Louisiana, I think. They were all home with her which I think is so nice. She and her husband farmed, and have been Bob's customers for almost 35 years. I've only known Jo Ann since I've been in crafty club, but she was such a delightful person and always with a big smile. She was on Caring Bridge; judging from the number of posts from her church family she had a deep faith. I will get an update on my other friend tomorrow night at card club. I think anyone who causes bodily injury or death should receive the same. An illegal, driving drunk, rammed the back end of a car killing the young girl who had graduated from college the day before. They held him in jail 24 hours, he posted $500 bail, and now can't be found. Surprise, surprise.

The dishwasher is finished so need to unload it and also the washer and dryer. They had a busy day! Enjoy the rest of the evening and have a marvelous Monday tomorrow!

gma22 04-18-2016 12:00 PM

Good morning to you all. I have been working on my budget for June through December for the last 3 hours. It takes a lot of time as I use an Excel program and set the things we have to pay up according to Jack's paydays, his retirement and his social security. I slot the stuff due into whatever income meets it the closest. Everything is color coded too so it takes awhile to do it all. I have things that are only due quarterly like my Tricare payment and my life insurance. The best way for me is to write it all down in a column on lined paper with the date it is due, then make columns for each month. I then slot them into my Excel program and cross off that payment in the month column and so on. Takes time but since I get very few paper bills anymore, I have to be on top of things so they don't go late.

I have to get up from here and fold laundry then get upstairs and get those bathrooms cleaned. We are having steak tonight so Jack cooks that and I am going to make some potatoes for him and then I am making roasted brussell sprouts with onion and bacon. YUM! Only way I will eat brussell
sprouts is if they are roasted or fried.

Jean: Cancer is an awful thing and unpredictable. Jack had 8 great aunts including his grandmother out of the 8 I think 7 died of cancer and all different kinds. I have always said they should have used that family as research as they must have had something in their makeup that made them more susceptible to cancers. Jackson is playing soccer again I believe, but with Thomas almost done with scouting he is going to be free pretty much all summer this year. He is very close to his Eagle scout and he said after that he is not going to continue. He said the Eagle scout really doesn't do anything after that so he is not interested in continuing it. We had a terrible accident recently where a drunk woman was driving on the wrong side of the highway and killed people and hurt others and of course came out ok in it. It infuriates me because driving drunk is a choice. You choose to get into a car impaired and drive. I think they should have the book thrown at them the first time out and maybe they would think twice. I don't care if it is just a dui, I think jail time and a big fine and license lost. It is a pet peeve with me I guess.

Maggie: Be safe.

You all have a great start to your week. I am off to get more work done.

Maggie 04-18-2016 04:37 PM

Great Day Today

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS

It’s a beautiful day here in this part of Texas. Coming home yesterday the rain was coming down hard and when you used the windshield wipers it was like not having any because the rain was coming down so heavy. They did a wonderful service for Will which I am grateful for and gave me the flag. It is a large one and folded in the triangle like they do them. I don’t know what I will do with it in this MH but I have it none the less right now.

Beanie was so glad to see me back here for the gal had put him in the MH for me when her husband had called and said we were getting close to home. He is such a good little dog I am so glad to have him here with me.

Nothing more to write about for I am getting over that long trip.

gma22 04-19-2016 09:45 AM

Good morning to you all. Overcast today and rain is headed our way. I sure hope we don't get what Houston got. I am done with flooding around here.

I finished my budget for year, which takes forever and got laundry done but nothing else. Jack hasn't taken all the clothing up for me to put away so couldn't do that. I have to go to Super Target today and get a few things when I get done here. I could go to WM, but I hate going there and for the stuff I need I can get at Super Target, which is right next door to the WM.

Not much else going on here at the moment. I want to get the garage done this weekend if possible. We have had stuff going on and we haven't finished it yet.

Maggie: Glad you are home safe and sound. Why not look into a flag box? They aren't that big and it would protect the flag. Jack has one. When he retired he was allowed to choose a flag flown anywhere a US flag is flown. They take it down and give it to him and then replace the one he choose with another one. He chose the flag that flew over the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor. He has the box in his office and it has all his medals in it too. Google it and see what you can come up with.

Gotta go ladies. Have a great day.

Jean 04-20-2016 12:00 AM

Just a quick "good night" from me. Funeral this morning, speed shopping after lunch, two soccer games, and then a Perkins birthday breakfast for Kolby after the second game. I am tired and heading to bed!

gma22 04-20-2016 07:56 AM

Good morning to you all. The day is heating up and soon I am going to have to start using the ac units. I haven't so far. We are deciding whether or not we actually want to replace the old ac unit at all. It is cheaper to run the floor units and they keep what needs to be kept cool. We don't have to cool the whole house all the time either. We shall see what we decide. They want about $5000-6000 to replace it not including any ductwork or whatever they might have to change.

Upstairs to work this morning I think. I have the dishes put away out of the dw and have loaded the few breakfast dishes so far. I have to get my library card and download a book that just became available and they didn't let me know about.

This weekend is commissary weekend but I may wait a week and clean out the freezer first. I still have a lot of meat in it I want to use up. We are going to have good ole hamburgers for dinner tonight. I make chicken casserole, which I hate, but Jack loves last night. I would like it if I could use cream of mushroom instead of cream of chicken soup. Jack hates mushrooms so that's a no go and I don't like the taste of the cream of chicken at all. I ate a piece of chicken that was it last night.

Target was a little nuts yesterday morning. They were restocking and cleaning shelves and such. I don't know why they don't do that after the store closes so they aren't in the customers way. They had stuff stewn all over the aisles and big shelving units with boxes on them with stuff in them. It was a mess. They had two cashiers so there was a line. They did put in a self check out but since Jack wasn't with me I didn't use it.

Jean: Whoo what a whirlwind you had yesterday. Hope you got some rest. I am pooped as I stayed up and watched the whole Cubs game and it didn't get over until nearly 11 then it takes me time to get to sleep and then up at 5. Hope it is quieter today for you.

Everyone have a good middle of the week.

gma22 04-21-2016 07:26 AM

Good morning to you all. Rainy day and humid here this morning. I haven't succumbed to using the ac yet, but starting tomorrow we are going to be 80 and above so guess it is going to happen. I like having the cheaper utility bills.

I have to go out and get soda this morning then back to the house and get some housecleaning done. I have started a load of laundry and the dishes this morning so in a bit I can finish that all up for the day.

Nothing else going on here today. You all have a nice day.

Jean 04-21-2016 04:27 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun and clouds have been taking turns today but there is no wind, so that is good. I went for my once a month coffee date, which I spaced off until my friend called to make sure we were meeting. :o It poured rain most of yesterday which we needed. I had to go to the grocery store to get things to make a casserole for my craft club friend's family. I cheated and bought cookies from the bake shop, but they taste like home made. :T It took me quite awhile to make the casserole because lots of "chopping." Bob went with me to deliver it out in the country and we stopped for ice cream on the way home. That was my supper.

"Gma," do you get a furnace along with the air conditioner? That's a lot of money for just air. The last few cans of mushroom soup that I bought, I couldn't see a piece of mushroom any where in it. I don't do the self check out either, but both Beth and Amanda will use them. Did you knit or read today, to relax? ;)

We are leaving for Sioux Falls to watch Zowie play soccer at 7. Another late night. Enjoy the rest of your day and evening!

gma22 04-22-2016 07:15 AM

Good morning to you all. Boy did we have rain yesterday. I got wet going into WM, wet coming out and wet unloading the groceries and taking them into the house. I slipped coming in and strained my ankle on my bad leg a bit but it's ok. I then tore one of the soda boxes and almost had soda cans rolling all over the place. I just wanted to start the day over.

My cataract in my right eye is getting worse and I am having to wear my glasses a lot so I can see. I am hoping when I go in the end of summer that it is bad enough they can repair it because everything is blurry in that eye now even with glasses or contacts. My right eye is 7.25 now and yesterday with my glasses on I closed my left eye and just a few feet in front of me was larger printing and it was blurry. I worry about the strain on my left eye, which has a slower growing cataract. I have had headaches and do wonder if it is from that, but have to wait until August so my insurance will pay for the eye appointment so I can get a referral to have the eye surgery done. I know I hate wearing glasses.

Jean: I hate to chop veggies. I get lazy and buy them already chopped sometimes. I buy the baby carrots so I don't have to cut up carrots for a roast too even though they are more expensive. Your cookies sounded good. I only eat cookies once in awhile. Like I said, I am a pie gal. I did have some of Jack's red velvet cake a few days ago from Walmart of all places and it was really good. I try to avoid sweets of all kinds for the most part. Not only because of the diabetes but because sugar makes me want to eat more. Nope, that was the quote for just ac and ductwork. They wanted $4000 for just a new unit not including anything else done and he said he was cheaper than most and would give me a couple people to call to compare. I checked into it and it is pretty accurate. We wouldn't need new ductwork as long as we put in the same sized unit as all the ductwork in the attic is only about 5 years old. We had to put in a new furnace and the ductwork was so old it wouldn't work with the new furnace. It is always someone taking money out of your pocket. Several years ago we had a home warranty, but they have raised their monthly fees and deductibles, lowered what is covered, etc that we decided not to continue it. We could put that money in savings and fix something easier. Besides if they come in and find you need a new stove lets say, they give you the cheapest they can get away with not something comparable to what you had. Everyone is out to rip you off these days.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Jean 04-22-2016 02:45 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun is out and just a slight breeze is blowing. I went to a hospital volunteer luncheon this noon. They review the privacy rule, safety rules, and germ prevention which counts as our mandatory training for the year. Lunch wasn't as good as in other years; they used thick square slices of focciasa (sp?) bread with spinach leaves, roast beef, and provolone cheese. Most everyone picked the bread off because it was so thick and dry. The pasta salad, grapes, and cherry cobbler were all good. I ran a couple errands and now have laundry to do plus vacuum the fur hunks. We have a dinner and music program at church tomorrow night so I need to do some "hit the high spots" cleaning since we are taking another couple with us.

"Gma," can't you get in to have your eye checked before the end of summer? That's a long wait! The screen protector on Bob's iPad had a small area that wouldn't stay stuck down. It kept getting bigger so he took it clear off. We got the iPad and cover at the local store so he took it back there because it has a life time guarantee. Yeah, right. They said he had to go online with the company to get it replaced. He did that and found out he is supposed to send the old one in, and he pitched it when he took it off. Nowhere does it say anything on the folder it came in, about sending the defective one in, just "lifetime guarantee." There is no 800# listed either. Makes me.   !!!! I had never heard of a home warranty until you talked about it one other time. Higher prices and lower quality is a sign of the times, I guess. :(

I need to change clothes and get busy. Enjoy the rest of your day!

gma22 04-23-2016 07:59 AM

Good morning to you all. It is going to be a beautiful day here today with lots of sun. The rain has moved through and our temps are finally going to start being in the 80's so we are moving towards summer.

We had a couple gift cards we needed to use so we went to Outback for dinner last night. I ordered the wrong steak and then both our steaks were super salty. Unlike the chefs of today, I would rather add salt than have something not to my liking by being over seasoned. I don't like pepper at all and this was loaded with pepper too. Then they sea salt the outside of your baked potato so we had a lot of salt on the plate. We ate it, but complained to the waitress that she should tell the chef to be less heavy handed with the salt shaker.

The kids are coming in on Friday. Jay's company and St Judes are doing a deal together and he has to come down here next weekend. It is also the beginning of the Beale Street Music Festival and Memphis in May so all three of them are coming. They are going to stay at Kelly's but Jackson is coming over here on Saturday afternoon and spending the rest of the day with us so they can go down to the festival. We are going to take him to the movies I think. He wants to see Ratchet and Clank so we are taking him to that. It is basically a video game that they turned into a movie. Thomas used to play the game all the time.

Jean: August is my yearly and to get it paid by insurance I have to wait until then. Even so if my cataract has not progressed far enough they won't do the surgery and pay anyway so I am just going to wait it out. I have started wearing my glasses most of the time, but they are straight vision without the bifocals so I have to take them off sometimes to read small stuff. I'll just bide my time. Hope you have a nice dinner tonight.

Everyone have a great day.

Good morning, ladies! We had lots of rain the last 2 days but today is sunny and 69 degrees.

I taught at the retread last week (4 days). It was a lot of fun. Now I'm starting the next retreat quilt so the shop has a sample. There have been the usual round of quilting bees, extra sew days with Norah and Glory and morning workouts at the Y. I went to Mass this morning and I am not doing anything else today. I need a rest day!

Faye, my heating and air together was $5,000. My townhouse is 1,873 sq. ft. Since I had that done, my electric bill has dropped nearly $20 a month. (I do budget billing). The new units are much more energy efficient. I have gas heat and it came down $11 a month on the budget billing. I love the pink Himilayan Sea Salt. It is very tasty. I don't use it for everything and it's best added after cooking. What fun to have a day with Jackson! My eye doctor said they do cataract surgery when it reaches 2.5 (that's when insurance pays). Its the best thing I ever had done.

Jean, ice cream for dinner sounds like a real treat! We have a very popular place here called Sweet Frog that has 12 flavors of frozen yogurt every day, including sugar and fat-free varieties. I go there every couple of months and have a feast.

Hi, Maggie!

Have a wonderful day!

Jean,

Good Afternoon! The sun has been in and out all day, just a slight breeze, and the thermometer says 80 degrees. I don't think it feels that warm w/o the sun shining in the west windows. I am just plain pooped today! After four funerals, three soccer games, card club, volunteer luncheon, extra cleaning yesterday for the company last night, and church I hope next week is a little less hectic. Kolby has a game and Maddy has a concert the same night, plus Zowie has a game. Maddy's concert is at 6 and they will clear out those parents for the 7th graders, and Kolby's game is at 7 so we will head there. Maddy was supposed to have a game that night but her whole team is in the concert. Crazy scheduling!

"Gma," we've only eaten at Outback once or twice. The first time was with Jason and Amanda, 18 years ago. When we came out there was a horse and buggy bringing a couple for their anniversary. Bob happened to know the driver and we ended up renting the horse and buggy for J and A's wedding. We just ate at the Olive Garden which is my favorite place. Bob likes Applebee's, and so do I. It's a good thing we only have hamburger "joints" here for the most part. It will be nice to see your "northern" family and you will have fun spending time with Jackson. I was disappointed in last night. First of all it was advertised as a fund raiser for the senior high trip next year. The tickets were $20 for the meal which was a delicious lettuce salad with goat (?) cheese and roasted walnuts (mystery dressing which I hope to get the recipe), two good sized ham balls, glazed carrots, baked potato, rolls, and pineapple cake with a huge strawberry on top. The musical program afterwards was included in the ticket price. The kids had decorated the tables and we had fancy folded cloth napkins. Bob counted, and there were only 48 people there, none under the age of 55-60. None of the kids' parents were there either. The sponsor was there all day supervising the cooking by the kids so I'm sure she was glad when it was over. The program was good.

Susan, you have been a busy gal! :woohoo: We are in a severe thunderstorm watch until midnight, with 65 mph hour winds. I hope it doesn't happen but we are right in the middle looking at the tv weather map. Sweet Frog is a cute name. We used to have a great ice cream shop with lots of flavor choices, but it changed hands and the new owners added decorated cakes, sandwiches, etc., and eliminated some of the ice cream flavors so it didn't last long. Now it's gone and Walgreens built in the space.

Maggie, what are you doing today? :twirly: Hope all is well with you and Beanie.

Bob just inquired about supper, usually it's pop corn so think he is hungrier than that. Enjoy the rest of your evening.

gma22 04-25-2016 07:35 AM

Good morning to you all. We have certainly started into the spring/summer weather. We are going to be in the 80's all week this week.

Jack just left for work a bit ago and I want to clean upstairs bathrooms today and put away any clothes Jack hasn't put away from taking the basket up last night. I imagine I will have to run a load of dishes before dinner tonight as we have used a lot of glasses and such. I can do half loads which will be perfect. I am making pork chops, corn on the cob and mashed potatoes and gravy tonight. I don't do the potatoes so I will have corn and chop and maybe salad or another veg.

I think I am going tomorrow and get my nails and toes done. I had someone post a picture of a gal who had her toes done for a baseball game and I am going to have them do that before we go to Atlanta in June. I think I am going to get the little toes painted blue with red tips and then the big toe all white with baseball stitching in red. It's really cute.

Jean: Sometimes your life seems like a whirlwind. I could never keep up with all of that. You meal sounded good and I think it's a shame the parents didn't support it, but I would bet they figure they have to shell out initially for the trip. I hope all the food was at least donated or they didn't make much. We did Arbys for dinner last night. I had a chicken sandwich. The game was an early one since they were leaving Cincinnati. I am sure the Reds were glad to be rid of us. We took them 6 games out of 7 and beat up on them pretty badly. Cubs have an off day today then play Milwaukee tomorrow. At least we can watch the Cubs feed. Any games with Cincinnati, Atlanta or St Louis are blacked out here. I thought that Direct tv had lost that suit, but Jack says they settled. I don't know for what as we never got a refund on games that were blacked out in years past and they are still blacked out. It is screwy to me as we can watch the games but we have to watch the ones that are broadcast with the other teams stations. I don't get it but who knows? It had to be thought up by men, women wouldn't have never done it this way.

Susan: My left eye is 5.5 and my right eye is 7.5. I am hoping I can get them done in the fall. I need to call Tricare and find out about referrals since it has nothing to do with a regular medical doctor in my clinic. Hope you enjoy putting together your new quilt. We don't do ice cream away from home much as there aren't a lot of places here and Jack doesn't do frozen yogurt. I would rather have that. I am not a big ice cream eater anyway.

Well, you gals have a good week this week.

Maggie 04-25-2016 11:07 AM

GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS

It is another beautiful day here in this part of the USA. It happens to be my weigh day and wouldn’t you know it my scales are not working right even with new batteries in it so it the trash it goes. It was one of those nice WW scales because I couldn’t bring my upright scale in this MH. My host even came over and couldn’t get it to work so he said he would go buy me a new one. I don’t know if they sell these WW ones in a store but he will get me one kind or another kind anyway. I need to weigh once a week so I know where I am and I think you gals understand that.

Beanie sure looks real good with his hair cut. He is back to his cute self once again. I have a mouse in this MH somewhere but it didn’t go for the cheese in the trap last night. He sure dug up some plants in my little aloe-very pot. I’ll get it one day for sure. No telling how it got in here but it did and my host said they get them in the house sometimes also. Living out in the county what else can I expect I wonder. I wish they would get some chickens so I could see them from my window at my right as I type. I think first there needs some work done on the roof of it though, but not much. It is sure nice to hear the birds chattering in the tree beside this MH as I type and be nice to see the chicken in their home from here. My host let the grass grow in on one area and there are wild flowers in it and it is so pretty. I can just turn my head and see them from here. I think he left it grow since there is some wood piled in it next to the fire pit Will made with bricks. The tri pod is still sitting next to it with the grate hanging from it. I can see an ax stuck in a upright standing log. Things he didn’t get back to when he was so sick.

PS: Have you ever heard Coyotes yoodle ~ they are so fun to hear in the dead of the night for their sound carries from that old deserted barn to this MH real good and clear.

Oops I gotta go ~ will do personals later ~ Maybe.

Good Mornng! We had about 10 minutes of bright sunshine this morning but now the clouds have moved in. We had rain yesterday and more is on the way. Some of the area farmers have started planting while most have not. Some of the fields have standing water so it will take a few days to dry up enough to keep the tractors from getting stuck. The church computers installed Windows 10 last and "lost" the program that I use so I couldn't do my part this morning. The computer gurus were coming again this morning to see if they can find/fix it. I'm just glad I didn't screw it up! Not much gift shop money this week so have that deposited, an invoice paid, and the check delivered back to the hospital. Since we "spit shined" on Saturday, I am going to start cleaning and sorting through drawers.

"Gma," one of the gals in my card club had her nails painted bright aqua with a sprinkle of sparkles. She had on a matching top and jewelry so her nails stood out and really looked nice. I didn't see your picture but the baseball idea sounds cute. I like to keep busy but sometimes it feels like overload. April and May are the busiest with three playing soccer, and baseball will start soon. We also have lots of birthdays in the mix. I wish it would warm up so I didn't have to wear my winter coat to the games. We don't get some of the Iowa U, ISU, or UNI games either. Sometimes one cable company will carry them and sometimes the other company will have them. It's frustrating!

Maggie, I am glad to see you today! I'm sorry your scale quit working. I hope your friend is able to find a new one that you will like. I'm surprised Beanie doesn't sniff out the mouse for you. Maybe the mouse would like peanut butter better. ;) I have a friend who lives almost out in the country, on a farm. She said they hear coyotes all the time, and they have moved in closer to town. They have horses and a few cats who come and go from their barn so she is hoping the coyotes don't come any closer to them. I'm not sure if I have heard one or not.

I hear the dryer buzzing so need to get the next load going. Hope you all enjoy a nice day!

Good morning to you all. Going to be beautiful again today. We have rain coming in tomorrow then sunshine then rain pretty much all weekend. No surprise as our music festival is outdoors and this weekend. In the 14 yrs we have lived here I think last year is the first year that it didn't rain over the weekend of the festival. Everyone is going to get wet and muddy as they have it rain or shine. Our own little Woodstock here in Memphis!

I went and got my nails and toes done yesterday, which took all morning so I gave up trying to get anything but laundry done yesterday. I did put away a box of file folders I had ordered and they came yesterday. I couldn't find them here in town. I buy the pocket style so stuff doesn't fall out of them and they can be hard to find. They had colored ones, but they are really expensive so I just bought a big box online at Amazon and they were shipped and here yesterday.

My long time dr has left the practice so I have to again start over with a new doctor. It's ok but I have to change primary care managers again as she was mine. I called them yesterday but their system was down so will call again today and change it. I get tired of doing this but we are in a teaching practice and even staff doctors come and go. Since I don't have as many health issues now I am not concerned with it. Basically it is just my diabetes as my surgeon is who I would go to if my colon has problems. I am just going to see the resident who subbed for her the last time I was in there. He is a nice enough guy quite a bit younger than my son though!

The last time I had my hair done she changed the color and I have had it two weeks now and I really dislike it. She made it way too pastel for me and it washes me out I think. Jack doesn't like it either so I am going to tell her I want to go back to the more vivid copper color she had on it. She cut my hair a little funky too and I have had trouble managing it.

Maggie: I suggest peanut butter on the trap. That is what the exterminators use. They get their feet stuck in it and from what I understand love peanut butter. Ugh, just talking about it gives me the willys.

Jean: I attached a picture of the baseball painted toes. This is for the St Louis Cardinals. I would make all but my big toe blue with red tips, which is Cubbie blue. I have the glitter stuff, but it is murder to get off acrylic nails so I quit doing it. You have to sand the stuff off. Seems like every time Windows upgrades they have enough bugs in it to mess stuff up. I know I can't do any of them on our computer as it messes the computer up every time and Jack has to go back and re-install windows. So when we get a pop up saying there are updates I just ignore them.

I am going to get upstairs this morning and get those bathrooms cleaned! With that I just better get going. Have a great day all!!

Jean 04-26-2016 11:44 AM

Good Morning! It's another cloudy day in my neighborhood; the wind is blowing and rain is to move in tonight. I've just been putzing from one thing to the next this morning. I bought two pair of capris and wish they were a hem width shorter. I could shorten them but it might be faster to have someone else do it. Hems are not my favorite thing to do. I am proud of myself! I was able to check both debit cards online. :cp: I no longer use them as debit cards but wanted to see how they looked on the statement. I should make a trip to WM but haven't got much of a list so may put that off. On the other hand it might be smart to go before the rains begin again. :?:

"Gma," the toenails are cute! That will be fun for your game day! When I asked the iPad tech about ignoring the updates, she said that would eventually affect other programs on the iPhone and iPad, or Apple computer. I don't know if the same holds true for Microsoft or not. I am the first to admit I am computer DUMB! I hope it doesn't rain on your music festival. The fans probably wouldn't care but I think it would be hard on instruments and wiring, etc. If you don't get your bathrooms cleaned today, I don't think the Health Department will quarantine them.

Bob's aunt turns 99 in May, and the kids plan to go with us to her party. She lives two hours from us, Jason is two and a half hour in the opposite direction so at least five hours for him. Beth is a little over an hour, opposite, so would be around three for her. I called the water park resort and reserved rooms for them to stay here Sat. night, and we could birthday party on Sunday. It's graduation weekend so the resort will be busy. If they can't stay, I can cancel the rooms 24 hours before.

I need to get busy! Hope you all enjoy a terrific Tuesday and sunshine!
