I Hear an Echo . . .

GOOD AFTERNOON IN NOVEMBER MAGNOLIAS

We had a gulley washer of rain last night. It came hard and fast and I haven’t heard of yet how much we got. We got all of our awnings rolled up in time so they didn’t suffer any wind or pounding rain damage. We are parked where there is a building behind us not too far away that receives the brunt of the wind.

I am home alone with ole Beanie for Will has gone for treatment. For lunch I am going to have a bowl of delicious taco soup that our friend here made last night and graciously gave us some. It is delicious. There are several versions of taco soup on the web including the ole WW one. :cp: She also brought over a couple boxes of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix. It is so nice that she is an RN and qualified to remove the stuff the doc left on Will to give him a slow drip for a couple of days when he gets home. Otherwise he would have to travel the two hours back and have someone there remove it and flush the line. I am glad they arranged Will’s treatments so his body will be bounced back in time for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.

I love these little tissue holders that we got from Camping World that get put up under a cupboard or where ever one wants one to be. I have one on a cupboard above where I sit and type on this computer, another is above the little table on which we share our meals and the third one is on the cupboard above the night stand in the bedroom so I can easily reach up get one at night. My nose leaks like one of my Great Aunts did but she used very pretty lace edged handkerchiefs where I use paper Kleenex. I remember that lace sticking out of her long sleeved blouse cuffs. She was such a lady. I still remember some of the real neat Christmas and Birthday gifts she would send me. I have a pair of earrings my Father gave me for my 16th birthday. They are fresh water pearls on the end of a long gold chain that has a way to slip them through the hole in pierced ears. They hag down an inch in front and an inch in the back. Really nice. They were a way to always remember him and the Pacific Ocean which I dearly love.

Have a great day Magnolias.

Good Afternoon! It's another gloomy rainy day in my corner of the world. The good thing is that it's "warm" at 55 degrees. Last night at card club someone mentioned we had snow this time last year. I made a banana bread this morning; if nothing else the house smells good. I am trying to keep my gift shop totals by the month so I don't have to do a years worth for the annual meeting next fall. I was doing good until I wrote checks and didn't take the time to write them in my notes. Now I have to go back and do that -- just takes time.

Maggie, these rainy days make me appreciate the sunshine even more. A rainy day now and then is one thing, but several days in a row is a bit much. The days seem short with it getting dark so much earlier. We had a lot of thunder and lightning later last night. Strange weather continues! I've never made Taco Soup but may give it a try. It's nice your friend can help Will and save him the long drive. I remember ladies sticking their hankies in their sleeve. I also have a couple of gifts that I received from an uncle when I was a child. I have them packed away in a memory chest.

I have towels to fold and put away so best get back to my projects. I really should go to the grocery store, maybe tomorrow. Hope you all enjoy the rest of a terrific Tuesday whatever you are doing.

Good afternoon. Very overcast and we are going to get the storm Maggie got yesterday though it will come overnight. It has been horribly windy today and we have a tornado watch as it is very warm and very humid today.

Done with my mammogram so have no more doctor stuff for awhile. I can enjoy the rest of my errands for the rest of the week before we leave.

Jack asked me if I would bake some things for the plant's Christmas luncheon. I knew he was going to ask for apple squares, which are a snap to make but he wants a coconut cream pie and a pecan pie too. It won't be until the 23rd though so I have lots of time. I imagine I will do the pecan pie and the apple squares on Monday then the coconut cream on Tuesday. It has a lot of heavy cream in it so I don't want it made too early.

Maggie: Jack and I are continual nose wipers too. We have year round allergies, but they are pretty mild just the runny noses for the most part. Hope Will will get to feeling better quickly.

Jean: We plan on leaving at 6:30 AM on Saturday and get on the road. Breaking it up like that makes it tolerable. Banana bread sounds good. I am going to make a blueberry coffee cake before I clean up dinner dishes I think. I had some chicken with stock in the freezer so warmed it up and cooked some noodles in it and had chicken and noodles tonight.

Everyone have a wonderful evening. I am off to bake the coffee cake.

gma22 11-18-2015 05:35 AM

Good morning to you all. I haven't even peeked out the door to see how much rain we got last night but we were supposed to get a humdinger of a storm. If we did, I slept right through it.

Today is haircut and color day and it is also our 43rd wedding anniversary. With all that is going on and a couple weeks of eating out in our near future, we are just going to eat at home tonight and have a quiet night.

I baked the blueberry coffee cake and Jack said it wasn't sweet enough even though I put cinnamon, butter and brown sugar streusel in the batter and on top. He ate a big ole piece though. He is all about frosting. The man would eat clumps of it in cereal if he had the chance I think.

You all have a nice middle of the week.

Wonderful Wednesday

GOOD AFTERNOON IN NOVEMBER MAGNOLIAS

Today Will doesn’t feel much like eating so he will find something that appeals to him in his condition which is probably a bowl of cereal. For dinner I am cooking myself a pork chop and eat it with cottage cheese and peaches. This is Will’s day after treatment and that chemo zaps all of his good cells to get to the bad ones and it takes awhile for his system to bounce back and replace the good ones so he doesn’t feel so good for a couple days after treatment.

I will be glad when the stores get their spring plants in for I am anxious to get my planting done. I look out my window here and see the fence which will be teaming with blackberries, after I get them planted of course. :cp: I have my inside herb garden planned and waiting for its potting soil and plants. I have a small planter on our little table that has Alo Vera growing in it which I brought with us here. It sits by a window and is doing well.

There is a large white dog that occasionally visits here and is not welcome. Beanie usually barks him away. We don’t know who he belongs to but he is sure a nuisance. It is probably good we feed Beanie inside and if we didn’t the raccoons & that dog would avail themselves of his food. That is a big dog and I guess he just hops the fence at a low spot down by the barn to come into the yard. It is quite a distance away but I can see him trotting along the way to get here. I imagine he may belong to some folks living on the next piece of land for he is clean looking and appears to be well fed. Maybe he just comes here for the company.

DONNA FAYE Happy Anniversary to you! I think it nice you will be celebrating your day at home. Coconut Cream Pie is soooo good. Do your use the Betty Crocker recipe?

Jean 11-18-2015 03:17 PM

Good Afternoon! It's another CRAPPY day in my neighborhood! I went to get my nails done and it was misting on my way into town. The streets were dry in town but it started to rain shortly after I got to the shop. Now there are huge wet snowflakes falling. The snow wasn't supposed to come until Friday; at least it's not staying on the ground. An Asian couple own the nail shop and Michael usually does my nails but he wasn't there this morning. His wife, Katie, said he had gone home to Vietnam because his brother died. As we visited she mentioned she was sure someone had tried to break into the shop last night and showed me a picture of the door on her phone. Her first clue was that the handicapped door handle was turned at an angle and when she looked closer the painted wood beside the handle was chipped. I asked her if she called the police, and when she said no I encouraged her to do so. She left while my nails were drying and came back with two police officers. I also told her to tell them her husband was gone and she would be closing the shop alone at 8:00; they would do a drive by for her. Anyhow, I hung around until the police left and she said the officer told her they had six other break-in calls this morning. I wanted to run some errands this afternoon but will wait until tomorrow when the sun is supposed to shine. :crossed: I have bell practice later this afternoon.

"Gma," Happy Anniversary to you and Jack! :balloons: All of your baking talk is making me wish for something in the oven. :T You have another busy day planned. We go through a lot of Kleen-X too.

Maggie, I just noticed you are still in "September" mode. I hope Will feels better soon. How many more treatments does he have? I have one geranium plant that has two toned blossoms and Bob is going to try and save it over the winter. You mention spring and we are supposed to be getting snow. :( My current visiting cat count is at four. I still have the big black tom, two spooky gray striped ones, and the little black kitten who is getting tamer. I'd like to find him/her a forever home.

I need to get busy and accomplish something this afternoon even if it's wrong. Hope you all are enjoying a sunshine kind of day!

Back to say . . .

GOOD AFTERNOON IN NOVEMBER MAGNOLIAS

JEAN This was Will’s 3rd treatment so he has 3 more to have before they evaluate him once again. 4th on Dec. 1; 5th on Dec 15th and 6th on Dec. 29th

Jean 11-19-2015 05:18 PM

Good Afternoon! We have sunshine! Yay! We also have 40 mph winds and it blows right through a body outside! I went for my once a month coffee date this morning and stopped for bread and milk on my way home. Walking across the parking lot was not fun! The store was crazy busy with 6+" of snow predicted for tomorrow; you'd think people wouldn't get to eat for a week. We have a meeting at church tonight and I'm not looking forward to going out again.

Maggie, I'm sure both you and Will will be thankful to be finished with the treatments. It has to be hard knowing he won't feel the best afterwards for a few days. Cancer is bad, bad, bad! :(

Not much newsy from Iowa today. Hope you enjoy a nice evening!

gma22 11-20-2015 06:05 AM

Good morning ladies. It is chilly here this morning but we are back to sunny days. I imagine Maggie and Jean are going to get some snow this weekend. The weather channel looked like it anyway. I know South Bend is supposed to get about 6 inches so Jackson is going to have to get in all his skateboarding before Saturday.

Jack is going to take the car today as he is going out to lunch and one of the guys just came back from medical leave and wants to see it. I am going to do a bit of last minute packing, then this afternoon we will get us a bite of dinner, get the car vacuumed out and washed and then finish packing the car tonight. Off early tomorrow so this will be my last post unless I can get in here while on vacation and do it.

Maggie: I hope Will can bounce back soon. If you can get him to eat cereal that packs a lot of protein and vitamins and such in it, it will help him regain his strength and feel better even if he can't manage anything else.

Jean: I am glad you encouraged her to call the police. I hope while her husband is gone she will avail herself of them every night when she locks up. My nail salon is in Walmart so there is a bit more protection there as it is right outside of the checkout and they have sliding chain doors for it.

Well you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving next week. I am anxious to see what they will feed us on the ship that day. Looks like our sale away party is going to be in the rain and it is always held outdoors on the pool deck.

Jean 11-20-2015 09:46 AM

Good Morning! It is snowing great big lazy snowflakes. There was nothing a half hour ago and now there is at least an inch, or more, on the deck. The weatherman said to expect six to nine inches! We are supposed to meet Ian for birthday pizza in a town about an hour away. At this rate we will have to postpone and pick another time. :dunno: Bob did get the snowblower out of the shed yesterday. I planned to do a grocery list and make a casserole to share with two friends; one fell down a flight of stairs and cracked a bone in her should plus a cut on her head, the other's husband had a heart attack. I know the stores will be crazier than yesterday. Hind sight, should have done it yesterday. :(

"Gma," I hope you can check in here while you are gone. It's too quiet when you are missing. Will you be gone a week? I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving with all the trimmings. I haven't priced turkeys but rumor has it they will be high priced because of the bird flu.

Susan, haven't seen you for awhile. Hope all is ok with you.

I need to get dressed, do some dishes I don't put in the dishwasher, and vacuum the never ending fur bunnies. Hope you enjoy a fantastic Friday!

Jean 11-20-2015 03:13 PM

It's still snowing and now blowing. Birthday pizza party postponed until tomorrow night. I'm ready for spring!

Jean 11-20-2015 08:57 PM

. . . . and it is still snowing and blowing! Bob has cleared the deck twice and it's piling up again. A little town close to Sioux Falls had 17" on the 6:00 weather, and a town just north of us had 14". Enough! :tantrum:

QuilterInVA 11-21-2015 10:06 AM

Good morning, ladies! 49 degrees with sunshine. 2 days ago it was 70. We've been up and down for weeks now. My yard man came and planted pansies yesterday. They will bloom all winter. Most people put them out so it does look cheery even on colder days.

I had another intestinal blockage and lost 27 more inches of small intestine to gangrene. The doctor made me go to the convelescent center since I live alone and I just got home 3 days ago. I have Humana Advantage Plan and they delivered 10 days of meals for me the day I got home. They even made them gluten free! It's nice not to have to cook. It's going to take awhile to get everything back to normal. This was my 5th blockage and the doc said some people are just prone to them. I've lost 17 pounds so hope I can put most of it back on for I'm just plain weak from it all. As always, my friends have rallied around and cared for Casper and cleaned my house and someone comes every day to visit.

Jean, I don't even want to think about snow. I hope we don't see any this year. I see the El Nino is supposed to keep us warmer but the El Nina will be starting in the spring and it will be a horrendous hurricane season for 2016. Not what I want to hear for sure.

Maggie, I hope Will feels better soon. It's awful to try to eat when you don't feel like it. You seem to have settled in quite well. Casper has a cat that comes to visit and he goes crazy everytime he sees it.

Faye, sail away to a fabulous time! Enjoy and happy anniversary.

Have a wonderful day.

Jean 11-21-2015 12:56 PM

Good Morning! It was only 8 degrees when I came downstairs this morning. The wind yesterday was awful. :brr: The sun is shining brightly and the snow glistens as the sun rays move from east to west. Bob is guessing we got roughly 10". I've been doing laundry and sorting through catalogs to pitch. We are having Ian's birthday party tonight, Bob sings at church tomorrow, and we are subbing in a card club tomorrow night. It's hard to believe next week is Thanksgiving and Christmas will soon be here. The older I am the faster time seems to fly by. :(

Susan, I was glad to see you here this morning! I am so sorry about your need for surgery! I'm sure Casper is really glad to have you home again! I had decided I was going to email you today since I hadn't seen you on FB lately. What a treat to have gluten free meals prepared and delivered for you. Friends are a true blessing that's for sure. I wouldn't mind losing 17 pounds but will pass on the surgery way.

I need to think about something for lunch soon. After blowing the driveways, deck, and patio Bob left to make his Saturday rounds. Hope you all enjoy a nice day!

Jean 11-22-2015 02:08 PM

Good Afternoon! Our sunshine has disappeared. :( It was beginning to melt the ice and snow on the streets; for some reason the plows didn't get down to the bare cement and they are a mess all over town. It was 10 degrees when I came down stairs this morning. Cold! Went to early church, made a trip to the grocery store, and then back to church for a spaghetti dinner. The next project is to pull out the refrigerator and vacuum out the fur bunnies. I need Bob's help because it sits in a cubby hole surrounded by cupboards. A DUMB move when we remodeled the kitchen!

Not much going on in Iowa today. Tomorrow after lunch I go to the dentist and then a perm. If I'm lucky I'll get home before it's time to go to bed! Enjoy the rest of your day!
