Good morning everyone. It is nice and mild this morning and not a hint of the furnace coming on, which is nice.

We had an overall grand time with everyone this weekend. The boys had fun at Incredible Pizza, Granddad got stuck in the go carts and couldn't get out because they sit so low and his bad knees. Some nice young guy came over and offered to help him get out. He came back to the eating area after laser tag without the boys saying he was pooped and Thomas kept an eye on Jackson for us for about 15 minutes or so. We had a final dinner with everyone last night and they head home this morning. We will see them for a week in June.

I am going to start on my kitchen cabinets doing the cleaning today I think. I may start with the bottom ones. Our top cabinets sit pretty high and are hard for me to work on the whole thing without my step ladder. I dread getting on it as I have so much trouble with that right knee.

I ripped out what I did on the throw and started over with a new pattern. I just didn't like the way it looked. It looks great in the picture, but it looked weird when I got to the third color pattern. The first long one was flat, but then the next two patterns were raised and it just looked awful. I found a basic striped pattern where you put all the stitches on the needle at the same time and I incorporated the gray into the pattern. I think I will like it much better.

Jean: I got coupons from Lowes so we are going to go ahead and paint the entranceway next month. I told Jack we have to go and get samples though to see what we like. Glad the bells did ok. You didn't sit around and drink the wine out first all at once and then practice did you?  Ooh I will have to look for Mahjong Towers. You know, the Mahjong games on the apps aren't really Mahjong but something called Shanghai. I have a cd that has true Mahjong on it and Shanghai. Mahjong is played a little bit like Dominoes sort of....

Well everyone have a great start to your week. I have dr apt tomorrow and hair apt on Friday. Faye

Good Afternoon! It's another gloomy day in my corner of the world. Freezing rain is predicted for tonight. I'm ready for Mr. Sun to shine! We balanced on the first try at church this morning. There is a new copy machine so it took a little longer to figure out the settings. Also lots of checks to copy since there weren't many in church last week. The gift shop balanced also, I've written invoice checks, and will take them back to the hospital tomorrow.

"Gma," you have so much patience to rip out and redo your knitting. I hope the new pattern turns out great! Nope, no wine drinking for me, lately anyway. Maybe I wouldn't have been so worried if I'd had some before we played. I'd hate to even guess how long the bottles have been out in the garage. Bob donates pop cans to the Catholic School. They have a "pen" in the grocery store parking lot but they don't want glass because it breaks when people throw the bags over the top.

I have clothes in the washer and need to get another load going. Hope you all enjoy a nice day!

Marvelous Monday

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS☺♫

Will took the Jeep over to the welding shop and the guy that loaned us a vehicle met him there. He picked up the Jeep this afternoon and the guy did an excellent job making the tow mechanism and rack holder above the rear tire. We can order a rack and attach it to it for he had drilled holes in the metal so we could do that. Having him make the things they are much better than any we could have bought ready- made and the price was very reasonable for he was able to use scrap metal from former big jobs.

We went out to eat at our favorite Mexican restaurant and I brought home enough Chili Verde, rice and tortillas to have a re-run at home tomorrow,

JEAN In those two books I was putting the point+ values in the recipes because everything in them look like they would be yummy and if I already have the points+ values figured I am more apt to make them. I am getting rid of a whole lot of my cook books that only had a few recipes in them that appealed to us. I am only keeping a half shelf of books out of a 4 shelf book case.

DONNA FAYE Be very careful and don't hurt yourself cleaning those cabinets. It is nice to use coupons when remodeling for you can save lots of money that way.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

gma22 02-10-2015 05:30 AM

Good morning all. Not too cold this morning, but cold enough the furnace has kicked on. Supposed to be low 50's today which is ok with me but I am ready for real spring weather to get here.

I have my surgeon dr apt today so we shall see what he says about whether or not the fluid is building again or not. I sure hope not because I don't want to have to get another drain put in for sure. I have to talk to them about that insurance mess as they never called me back. They are going to deny it and send me the bill, but I want to make sure they redo it under a the proper code so it gets paid. Afterwards I am going to get my nails done and get some more fruit and a couple other things while I am at Walmart.

My female stuff is acting up again pretty badly this time around. Irritating for sure.

I did the bottom cabinets yesterday and the stuff works well, but the cabinets need to be painted again and since we are eventually getting new ones, I am not going to put that effort in. Part of the problem is we should have spray painted them instead of brush painting them for the color to be even. We painted a different white over them and I could see yesterday where we missed spots thinking we covered them.

Jean: Sounds like your accounting jobs weren't too bad yesterday. I have the border done and am working on the first color. This pattern has the throw knitted vertically instead of horizontally so there are 200 stitches on my needles so it takes awhile to get through a row. So far I like it just fine.

Maggie: I imagine you are happy to get your tow bar on and ready to go. We had Mexican the last night the kids were here but they messed mine up and then when they brought it back out it wasn't very warm but everyone was halfway through so I just kept it and ate part of it.

Everyone have a great Tuesday. We are hoping they release the rest of next year's calendar today on RCCL so we can book our trip. Faye

Jean 02-10-2015 12:41 PM

Good Morning! It's another gloomy day in my neighborhood. I was going to run some errands this morning but the weatherman kept saying freezing rain. Area schools were starting two hours late, ours included so I stayed home. Well, we got two drips and a dribble! I will go after lunch and hope the rain doesn't come back. Not much on the radar today except I'm hoping the plumber will come and measure my bathroom sink so I can get going on that project. The furniture store called last night and my couch is ready for shipment from Minneapolis to Sioux City. I won't get it for another couple weeks when they have a delivery of more than one item for this area.

Maggie, glad you have the Jeep set up in a way that will work for you. We have an "authentic" Mexican restaurant that is owned by a family. When they first opened only two of the guys spoke English and gradually all the rest at least make an attempt. They are very good about explaining what is in a dish or answer any questions. I used to eat there with teachers and always ordered the same thing. We have several others but they come and go. One never knows if they will be open or not, as they aren't very good about sticking to a schedule.

"Gma," I hope you get a good report from your surgeon, and get the insurance straightened out. Hope the cruise schedule happens soon for you. We have been looking at Maui rentals and my head is spinning! The gal we travel with likes to shop online for deals so she is always looking. She found airline tickets for $400 one night but they were only good for two people and a 12 hour time period. That would be a deal for sure!

I need to take a pile of folded towels upstairs, and think about something for lunch. I wish a genie would appear and take over my cooking duties! Hope you all you enjoy a terrific Tuesday!

GOOD EVENING MAGNOLIAS☺♫

I sure slept good last night. Guess I was making up lost sleep from the night before. What woke me up today was the cat. He was meowing so loudly for someone to open the bedroom door. I finely said “shut up” and he did and waited for me to get dressed and open the door where his dog was waiting in the hallway. Pets! Good gracious they run our lives.

We are planning to go to Texas and leaving with only Beanie. Ole Ragg Mopp and Cecil will have a new home we have found for them. We will sure miss them but we will get over it in time. We just can’t travel with 3 animals.

I received my monthly recipe from the Can Cooker folks and it looks good. It takes a packet of McCormic Bourbon, Brown Sugar, & Spices which we got at the market today and I can put it with the recipe in the folder. I just may make something in that Can Cooker before we hit the road. I can use that cooker on any heat source and it cooks quick like a pressure cooker. For instance this pork tenderloin recipe cooks in half an hour. If we plan on being gone during the day I can have something in the crock pot which will take much longer to cook and have it ready when we get back.

JEAN The weathermen aren't always to be depended upon :?:~ but I figure they do the best they can. All the folks in this Mexican restaurant speak quite good English for I do believe they were raised right here in the USA and went to school here. I was surprised in a Chinese restaurant here that the gals speak such good English and commented on it and they told me that they were taught English in China.

DONNA FAYE I sure hope you don't have to have the drain thingie again and don't have any fluid build up. That is certainly something to pray about.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

gma22 02-11-2015 04:17 AM

Good morning to you all. I got up to go to the bathroom and decided to just stay up. I am a little down as I have to go back to the hospital on Monday and they are going to put the drain back in. I am not thrilled about having to deal with it again, but have to do what is best and this is it. He said that more fluid had built up since I was in there 10 days ago so.......

Jack got his first SS check last night so he he is officially a government senior citizen now. They even refunded the two extra Medicare payments I made for the quarter. I was impressed.

Dr Wheat's surgical nurse helped me with the paperwork on the insurance thing and I mailed it off yesterday along with something I sent certified. I went and got my nails done and walked around in Walmart and did some shopping. I bought a bunch of fresh fruit and some canned peaches and pears. The fruit at Walmart is better than the commissary.

Looks like when we go to Indiana we will catch Jackson's last soccer game for the season so that will be fun. I got to thinking how in the heck can they play soccer in their weather. They have a bunch of snow! They have a big soccer center there so maybe they play indoors or something.

Maggie: We get take out from a Chinese restaurant close to the house and the little gal speaks English but has a thick accent. Now the Vietnamese where I get my nails done all speak English but the speak to each other in their native tongue. They are very nice people and the owner is always telling me jokes. He always starts them with he has a neighbor. If his neighbor did all the things in the jokes he would be one busy fella. Enjoy the can cooker.

Jean: Got my nails painted navy blue this time and I quite like it. I got the nail polish I ordered and discovered I had one of the colors already and it was the one Jack hated so I am going to take it to my surgeon's next time I go and give it to one of the nurses there for her daughter. She is black and I imagine she will like this color as it has a lot of gold in it and sparkle. I like the color, but Jack really hates it so I don't wear it. Jack said that the president of RCCL was on cruise critic and did a question and answer and said they are releasing the dates for the rest of 2016 next month. I sure hope they continue this sale that ends Friday then because we would have saved $2400. We changed our minds again and are going to only go for one week but upgrade our cabin. Did you see the picture of the snow at Gloria's? it looked like it was almost up to the windows.

Everyone have a good middle of the week. Going to sit and knit for awhile and read my new JD Robb book that I just got a couple days ago. Faye

Jean 02-11-2015 05:08 PM

Good Afternoon! We have sunshine this afternoon but it's a cold windy day. I got my nails done, ran some errands, and had lunch bunch this noon. Came home and changed clothes, now I need to rest. Talk about lazy and lack of motivation! Last night we made our Maui reservations for the end of next January into February. More and more people seem to be reserving for three months. I told the kids to vote yes, no, and forever hold their peace. They voted yes along with Jason's in-laws that we always travel with.

Maggie, I've never heard of the seasoning packet you mentioned. What are you going to make with it, pork? :T I will have to look and see if we have it here. When I first started subbing, the Asian students wanted to learn English, and were very good students. Their parents set high goals for them and encouraged them to go to college. I like to listen to the Asians, where I get my nails done, speak in their native language. Some speak very good English while others not so much. They sometimes get their sentences out of order and get the giggles when they realize what they've said.

"Gma," I'm so sorry you have to go through the drain challenge again! It would be nice if your doctor could figure out the "why" and fix it once and for all. I think all Asians who work in the nail salons speak their native language to each other. The little gal who did mine this morning just returned from a month's vacation in Vietnam. She said it was nice and warm there. Do you ever hear from Gloria?

Bob has a short meeting at 4:30, but I don't have bell practice tonight, so supper can be earlier tonight. Now to decide what to fix since I'm still full from lunch. Hope you all enjoy a nice evening.

Wonderful Wednesday

GOOD EVENING MAGNOLIAS☺♫

I went through my Can Cooker recipes and made a list of spices that they use and put the amounts in tiny bags that seal. I have a container to put the spices in that will reside w/the cooker along with the bottles of spices made for the cooker that some of the recipes use. It will make it much easier to make something in it having the proper spices already measured out and handy. I also figured if I didn’t have any that they called for I could get them now instead of being out and about without a store within many miles.

I go tomorrow to pick up my new rifle Will bought for me which is a Weatherby 243 with a Nycon Coyote Special Scope. I should be able to shoot small game and deer with it. I will be anxious to get out to the range to try it out. If you gals don’t know what I am talking about your husbands who will probably be able to explain what kind of gun it is. It will be a nice one for me to have when we are trecking out and about in wilderness areas. I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to shoot a poison snake with it. :cp:

JEAN It is one of the spices that is used in that cooker and yes I will use it on pork tenderloin with veggies.

DONNA FAYE Wal*Mart does have fresh veggies and fruit and sell a lot of it so they replinish the bins often.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

gma22 02-12-2015 07:19 AM

Good morning ladies. Gonna be cold and windy in our part of the world today. I hope Jack doesn't have to work outdoors today. I know he has a lunch to go to for a mechanic foreman whose last day is today. I guess they are going to lose the maintenance foreman soon too. He had bad heart issues a few years ago and they put in a pacemaker and defibbulator (sp). He started having problems and had to go to some hospital in Alabama. They cleaned the leads and did some tests and his heart is only working 30%! He needs a heart transplant and he is a couple years older than Jack. So both of those positions will be up for grabs, but I told Jack I am not sure he wants to deal with it again. This type the plant manager is back to do interviews and such but I told him we make enough money and do you want the headaches being on call and not getting paid for it all the time. The foremen have to answer maintenance calls if they can't get anyone to go out and do it which means he has to always be available so I don't think he will apply though he is certainly capable. He has worked there 14 years.

I have a roaring headache this morning but would like to clean the downstairs today. We shall see. I can't take anything but Tylenol, which usually doesn't work for me. I may just have to grin and bare it.

Jean: No, I never talk to Gloria, just see her post on FB from time to time. She hasn't been in here for several years now. She seems to be doing well from her posts though. The head honcho of RCCL is saying March release for the calendar so we are just going to have to wait and see. I just hope they extend the ongoing sale because we could save a bundle. Hope you enjoy your trip next year!

Maggie: Macys was having a sale and I got a food saver and extra bags and saved $121! I got a $220 unit for $129. They had stuff on sale, then free shipping then another 10% on top of that.

Everyone have a good Thursday. I have a hair apt tomorrow so hope my headache is gone! Faye

Jean 02-12-2015 12:52 PM

Good Morning! The sun is shining and it has warmed up to 0 :brr: so far. There's no wind so it "feels" like 0 -- too cold! I started to sort through a drawer this morning and found old treasures and receipts I thought I needed to save for some reason. They are gone now! I need to do some corner dusting to get ready for card club Monday night. I'm always glad after the fact but sure can put off doing it. Also need to check a couple recipes for a grocery run tomorrow.

Maggie, have fun with your new rifle. I don't know about Bob but Jason would know what you are getting. Bob has no interest in guns since Vietnam; he was issued an M-16 but no bullets. He had to clean it every so often because of the humidity. Jason, on the other hand, has a gun safe full of guns, much to my dismay. :dizzy:

"Gma," I will send positive vibes that Jack can stay inside today. I hope your headache is gone by now. Have fun with your food saver. Stores sure seem to have lots of sales and coupons these days. My problem is not being close to a store during the dates of the sales or coupons. :(

Bob will be home for lunch soon. I should do some cooking  so we could have leftovers again. Hope you all enjoy a nice day!

Thursday & a Very Nice Cool Day

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS☺♫

I have shown a loss of 4# this weigh day which keeps my average of losing 1½ pound a week so far this year which is my goal. I go along and show I am up a bit then a little down next time but still keep the average at 1½ pounds down each week. I want to keep my FOCUS and continue to lose on that average. I guess you would call me one of the roller coaster losers. I am OK with it for if I stick with it and don’t get discouraged I do know I will show a loss because so far down the road to thin I have lost 84 big ones.

When Will gets home from the museum we are going to the gun shop and I can visit my rifle. They are sighting in my scope for me before I bring it home. If I took it and tried sighting it in myself I would use up a lot of ammo doing it. They have electronic equipment in the shop with which to do it.

JEAN I am sure I will have fun with that rifle. I am a good shot so should bag some edible game. Snake tastes like chicken as do frog legs.:p You are definitely colder there than here.

DONNA FAYE You are going to love having that food saver ~ we have sure used ours a lot. Sorry your head hurts so badly.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

gma22 02-13-2015 05:07 AM

Good morning all. Still chilly here and going to be through the weekend then I sure hope for a warm up. I talked to my sister yesterday and she said it was 8 there with below zero windchill and snowing so I am going to quit complaining. :)

I have a hair appointment this morning fairly early so have to get around and get things done before I take Jack to work. My hair appointment usually lasts about 3 hours so it shoots the heck out of the day.

Maggie: Congrats on the losses! :carrot: Just keeping on.

Jean: We are tackling the other window shade tomorrow and I need to get those books packed and the area in front of the window and the window all cleaned up. It sure gets ugly if you don't clean it all the time and it is a mess. I have to take down the curtains that are hanging there and wash and dry them so I can get rid of them. I don't shop much in stores anymore. I do pretty much everything online. I got an email about the Macy's sale and checked it out and saw the sale.

Everyone have a great weekend. It is commissary weekend for us then Monday the drain again. Ahh well. Faye

Jean 02-13-2015 02:39 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining, the wind is blowing, and it feels colder than the 36 degrees on the thermometer. I braved WM and the grocery store this morning. I went early enough that neither one was busy. Have laundry going and need to finish my dusting. We will be gone part of tomorrow, for birthdays at Beth's, so I need to get a few card club "to do" things crossed off my list.

Maggie, a BIG. :congrat: on 4#s lost last week! :cp: I do the same up and down ride, which can be discouraging when I think I've had a good week but the scale says otherwise. We are supposed to stay cold for a few more days.

"Gma," I just checked and our windchill is 9. Sometimes I'm happier not knowing. ;) I need to clean the sliding door window on the outside. We had a visitor leave his calling card last night. :( Hope your hair turns out A-ok!

I need to get busy and work on my "to do" list. Enjoy the rest of your day and Happy Valentine's Day tomorrow!

Jean 02-14-2015 11:33 AM

Good Morning! It's sunny, windy, and cold in my neighborhood this morning. Feels like -14 :brr: even though the thermometer says 7. I am in the process of making the spinach dip for card club as it's always better after it sits. I make it as much for Bob as card club. We are making a quick trip to SAMs before going to Beth's. I'm sure it will be super busy, always is on the weekends. Today is also Bob's birthday -- a young 70!

I need to finish my dip! Have a nice day and enjoy!
