Steel Magnolias ~ #98

GOOD AFTERNOON IN DECEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

Good day Magnolias. I don’t have much on my plate to do this day in the Christmas area for I have wrapped all the gifts we are giving and sent all the cards out. I made another batch of fudge today and put it in gift containers and well get them delivered.

Our mail box that is hung on the house out front just had two little weld spots to hold the bottom on and one has let loose so the mail just falls through and lands on the porch. Will went to the store and bought one of the kind of mail boxes that the folks put out by the road in the country and will mount it on a pole on the front steps. It is painted with the American flag and quite pretty and patriotic and will hold the books he orders better.

Will had his last chemo treatment and is feeling more like himself more each day now. He just has gotten the last of the shots that helps bring up his white blood cell count that the chemo treatments have knocked down. So he is now over with the treatment now and they will check him in a few months to make sure the cancer didn’t come back.

This is Monday and my weigh day and I showed a loss of 2 pounds this day which was a surprise to me for sure.

We took the dogs to the groomer but went by the bank first and the teller gave them each a doggie treat. Their tails started wagging when we pulled in their drive way. I am sure glad they like going to the groomer.

We had a lovely time last evening after church services for we were all invited to a couples home for Sloppy Joes. Of course they had a nice green salad, baked beans and a cheese and veggie tray. They also gave each of us a nice Candle in a jar with a lid as we were leaving to come home. Tonight for dinner we went Applebee’s and spent half of a gift card we had gotten for there.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

gma22 12-23-2014 11:28 AM

Good morning all. I have everything packed and after Jack gets home and cleaned up we will head over to Target to pick up some things and to Walmart to get a couple things, bring them home and then load up the car.

It is rainy and icky today but not cold. It is in the 50's and for this part of the year that is a-ok. It is supposed to rain tomorrow too.

I am entertaining myself reading a couple books and playing some online games just waiting for Jack to call and say he is headed home. There is nobody at work today so he won't be doing anything except sitting around. He will probably be allowed to go home around 1 PM or so.

Maggie: Glad Will is done with his chemo. I know he will start getting his full strength back now. I made caramel corn to take down to the kids for the holiday but haven't really done any holiday baking this year, no cookies and such.

Jean: I loved the bell choir. I wish the picture would have been clearer of you though.

Everyone have a great day. Is I don't get in here to post you all have a love Merry Christmas. Faye

Jean 12-23-2014 11:57 AM

Good Morning! It is snowing and has been all morning. I needed a couple things from the grocery store and Bob offered to take me. The streets are slicker than snot! I double checked recipes and if I don't have everything so be it. I'm not braving the crowds again.

Maggie, thanks for starting the new thread. :) :congrat: on the 2# loss! That is a good incentive especially at this time of year. I hope Will continues to feel better each day!

"Gma," you and Jack are brave to visit Target and WM today! ;) The church video camera is in the back of the sanctuary. I don't know who was running it as sometimes there is nothing there when the secretary tries to copy it. I am excited because new spot lights were installed this past week so it won't be so dark to read the music. :cp:

I still have lots to do so better keep moving. Hope you all enjoy a terrific Tuesday. Merry Christmas! :elf:

GOOD AFTERNOON IN DECEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

It is snowing here . . .

I don’t have a clue what happened to the $5 dollar gold coin went that I had on my bracelet. I had made sure the solder job was good and now it is gone and also the gold lips charm I have had on the bracelet for a very long time is gone. Our friend that owns the gun shop also deals in gold has ordered me another gold coin (which cost around $250 now and not the $5 they had started out costing when first minted years ago. He will also get me a keeper that goes around the outside of the coin. I know where I can order some lips on line. It is just a mystery how they became missing. I am going to check all the connections again tomorrow on all the charms.

I got a copy of the 1950 edition of Betty Crocker’s Picture Cook Book. It is different than the one that my mother had because it is in a spiral notebook. :cp: It isn’t equipped with nutritional information but I can figure the points value with my program. A book down memory lane that I will enjoy going throug for sure.

I have a meatloaf baking in the oven (but not from the above mentioned book) and will serve it will some mashed potatoes, asparagus and fresh salad with it.

JEAN They put that anti skid stuff on our roads last night so no skidding today,:cp: They were spraying it on the parking lot at the hospital yesterday when Will was getting his treatment.

DONNA FAYE Could you please email me that corn recipe. Sounds like something I could gift folks with the fudge I made.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

Jean 12-24-2014 11:55 AM

Good Morning! Bob is helping me by cleaning the curio cabinet glass shelves. :cp: Everything that goes inside has been washed and will sparkle in the lights tomorrow. I still have a few things to wrap and bathrooms to clean. What else needs to be done and doesn't, "oh well." I must share my WM trip last night. I thought I had lots of tape but ran out so made a quick trip to my least favorite store. They had had a bin full of tape by the wrapping paper the last time I was there -- no tape in sight last night. :( So I did a u-turn to head to the school supplies. For the last several years I have wanted one of those little lighted reindeer for the yard. I almost ran into a pile of them as I headed down a Christmas tree aisle! Who would have thought I would find one there!? My Christmas present to myself!

Maggie, I' so sorry about your missing charms! Do you wear your bracelet all the time or just for special occasions? Have fun with your "new" old cookbook! Meatloaf sounds so good right now! :T Our snow is still here but I don't know if it will be tomorrow. I hope so because the kids like to be outside.

"Gma," wishing for you to have a grand time!

Susan, hope you are feeling back to 100% again! :)

Wishing you all a blessed Christmas! :tree:

GOOD AFTERNOON IN DECEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

Will has gone to the gun shop to help out the owner with help since he knows so much about guns. He is only keeping his shop open until early afternoon. When Will gets home we will enjoy a lunch of meatloaf sandwiches. :cp: Tomorrow we will be going over to our friends house for Christmas dinner which will be served around noon.

JEAN I usually do wear my bracelet all the time but sometimes leave it on the table in the front room by my chair for I take it off there and don’t always put it on the next day. We have been leaving our back door open for the doggie door is in the screen part and we have been leaving the door unlocked when we go somewhere so the animals can go outside and back into the house. However, since my charms came up missing we have installed a heavy duty locking system on the screen door which is a heavy storm type door. No one is small enough to get through the doggie door. I just can’t know what did happen to those items for they were soldered on the bracelet but someone could have come into the house and snipped them off with cutters then scooted out the front door when they heard us coming in the back door. It had to be someone that had seen my bracelet before but I don’t have a clue who could have done that. It could be a total stranger that had overheard my explanation of it to someone that was curious as to what each charm stood for. Lots of folks know where we live.

All Magnolias have a wonderful Christmas. :wreath:

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

QuilterInVA 12-25-2014 09:02 AM

:present::hohoho::tree::xcheer: Merry Christmas, ladies! 58 degrees right now with rain and this is supposed to be the high for the day. It was 70 degrees yesterday.

We have a high level of the evil flu in VA now and 2 children have died from it in our area. I am wearing a mask when I go about and only going out for necessary groceries (early in the morning so fewer people), weekday Mass, and visiting a few friends.

It has rained for days - we had 2 inches yesterday. My depression has been bad this holiday season. Stan so enjoyed Christmas and I miss him a lot.

Yesterday I did some laundry and the washer sounded really loud on the
spin cycle so I suppose its time for a new one. Then I started vaccuming and the sweeper died. I hope there are some good after Christmas sales!

I'm going to Glory's today. We having strip steaks, baked potato, brussels sprouts, carrots and coconut custard.

Faye, did you get to see the I Love Lucy special last night? It was fun.

Jean, you were brave to go to Walmart yesterday. A lot of folks around here have the raindeer.

Maggie, I'm so sorry about you charms. Do you have insurance on your bracelet? I hope Will will now be back to exact.

Have a very happy day!

gma22 12-26-2014 07:24 AM

Good morning all. We got back home yesterday morning but I felt so bad, I just got things put away, did the laundry up and that was it. I didn't even eat much supper last night. The female stuff started in bad down at the casino on Wednesday morning and I felt bad from then on. I kept wondering why my back hurt so much on Tuesday and why Tuesday night my groin area where the surgery was hurt so I now I know.

The kids came down, Thomas opened his presents from us, Kelly opened her belated birthday gifts, we went to dinner then they went home. That was pretty much the extent of our Christmas. I felt bad because the food at the buffet was lousy. Jack played a little baccarat on Wednesday morning, but I stayed in the room and read and played games on my Ipad. We watched or should I say he watched a lot of ESPN.

Maggie: Hurrah for the lost lbs but boo you lost some of your charms. I lost a whole bracelet and my car keys this past cruise. I was sure I left the keys at home but have looked everywhere for them and my bracelet but haven't found either. I never take my keys out of my handbag unless I am using them and Jack used his the whole vacation for driving so maybe they will turn up sooner or later who knows? I know it costs about $400 to replace the car key and I told Jack after the first of the year I want it replaced then we can duplicate it ourselves for about $40 a key. Jean said she would send you the caramel corn recipe so let me know if it didn't go through or something and I will send it to you again.

Susan: No I didn't see the Lucy special. We probably didn't have the channel for it down at the casino anyway. We haven't seen a lot of flu here and I am keeping my fingers crossed. I told Jack we only have to get through a couple more months then spring!!!

Jean: Hope you and the family had a lovely day yesterday and the kids liked all their gifts. We axed the trip to Walmart as all the crazies go there and just got stuff at Target. It was busy, but we actually didn't have to stand in line but a few seconds and we were done. I was so sick at my stomach we stopped at the food thingy and Jack got me a Sprite. It wasn't one of my better holidays. We got a lovely smelling Yankee Candle from Tom's parents and these fancy chocolates. Just what I need, candy!

You gals have a nice weekend. Faye

Jean 12-26-2014 08:44 AM

Good Morning! It's still dark outside but I assume it will be another cloudy day since we are on the edge of a winter weather advisory. :( No shopping for me today! It's drizzling in Sioux City an hour away so we may get some of the predicted weather. Bob is still in bed; he fell asleep in the recliner after the kids left, so guess he must have stayed up late watching tv after he woke up. We need to take the leaves out of the table and then everything, except Christmas stuff, is back where it belongs. We had a nice day yesterday, kids came early and left later than usual -- a long day! Poor Sonny spent the day hiding behind the hot water heater. Ernie is sociable and likes being in the mix of the activities.

Maggie, it's scary to think someone might have entered your home and stolen your charms. Guess, in that case, you can be thankful they didn't take the whole bracelet. We never used to lock our homes and cars in this town, but most everyone does now.

Susan, I've seen several people wearing masks this winter, even children. I hope you can avoid getting the flu or anything else for that matter. The sunshine sure helps people feel better emotionally.

"Gma," I hope you are feeling better today. It's bad enough to feel sick at home but has to be worse in a strange place. There's no place like home. The kids had a wonderful time because they are together so seldom. They are kind of hitting the in-between age, too old for kid toys and too young to just enjoy visiting with adults. The boys worked on Lego sets and the girls "created" with construction paper, glue, crayons, and glitter. Zowie likes to go through the cat toys. Ernie doesn't pay any attention to them, and Sonny was not about to come out and play.

I, for one, am glad the hubbub is over for another year. Hope you enjoy a relaxing day today!

QuilterInVA 12-26-2014 05:27 PM

Good evening, Ladies.

As you know, I got up the day after Thanksgiving sick. History repeated itself today. I got up with chills and fever and a dry cough. I spent most of the day in bed. I think I'm not going to celebrate any more holidays!

Faye, I'm sorry your time at the casino was spoiled. They have really got us over a barrel with the car keys.

Jean, I always think it's the kids that make Christmas great.

Hi, Maggie!

Have a great evening.

gma22 12-27-2014 11:59 AM

Good morning all. It is pouring down rain here this morning and have flash flood watches out until tomorrow. We are just hanging around the house today and tomorrow I am going around noon to get my nails done. It is time for a new set so it will take longer. I think I may go back to square nails. I like the look of them better but who knows.

I have all the trip clothes washed and another load and went upstairs and put them away and cleaned the upstairs bathrooms. I am having a lot of back pain this time around with the female stuff so it was a bit more difficult to get them done. I did up breakfast dishes and straightened up so am done for the day.

Jack is upstairs in his office and I have just been sitting here reading since I finished the chores.

Susan: Take care of yourself and feel better.

Jean: Sounds like a good time had by all except Sonny. 😊 Sometimes being a cat is tough. like you I am definitely glad it is over for another year. We have a lot of things we want to get done next year and I am ready to get them going!! I just want winter to get over with and spring to come.

Everyone have a great Saturday. Faye

Jean 12-27-2014 12:48 PM

Good Morning! The sun is shining!!!! :flow1: I almost feel like I should put on my sunglasses! We got some more snow last night, enough to shovel off the deck and driveway. It's turned colder again but it is still winter in Iowa. I have laundry going and need to round up more. Still have leftovers so lunch is taken care of. I did absolutely nothing yesterday except eat, and cat naps. I really thought I probably wouldn't sleep when it was time to go to bed but I slept really good last night. Must have been from relief that I didn't have to worry about Christmas preparations any longer. Hah! I think I will work on filling in my 2015 calendar this afternoon. I've already discovered we will miss Ian's band concert because of the CA wedding. :( I've been included as a hostess in a "no gift, bridal brunch" the day before the wedding. I guess it is a southern tradition (Donna?) that the aunts host to get ladies acquainted before the wedding. The aunts who are organizing it all live in Arkansas and Louisiana. I'm assuming it means to help pay the cost of the brunch. I have a "weird" cousin somewhere in CA but wouldn't waste my time looking for her. I thought we would have time to do some sight seeing but doesn't look like it now.

Susan, I hope you are feeling better! I just saw where California is having a siege of whooping cough. The kids definitely add to the holiday excitement!

"Gma," I hope the back pain goes away soon and stays away. You have been busy getting your chores done! You make me feel guilty, but not too much. ;) Do you ever catch square nail corners on fabric or scratch yourself? I need fills but maybe Monday after counting at church. I'm ready to pick out carpet for the bedrooms; wish the guy would bring two samples to the house because the more I look, the more trouble I have choosing. Bob is no help! He just says to pick what I like! I/we need to paint first.

Maggie, what are you to today? :twirly:

My washer should be done and ready for the next load. Hope you all enjoy a relaxing Saturday!

GOOD AFTERNOON IN DECEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

I learned something about the USA Bureau of Engraving and Printing that I didn’t know. When a person buys a sheet of bills that hasn’t been cut apart and then decides they want them cut apart you can’t do it yourself ~ you have to mail them back to the USA Bureau of Engraving and Printing to get it done. Before Christmas Will bought me a sheet of $2 bills and directions came with it. A gal he knows was selling her sheets of bills and had them in all denominations. I would have loved to have gotten the $100 dollar bill sheet but didn’t want that much money tied up in a picture frame.

We have been out and about today and got the fixin’s for a nice pot of chicken noodle soup and a pot of chili beans. I am making the soup this afternoon for dinner and we will have the leftovers for dinner tomorrow.

Will bought me the cutest rubber band shooter which is called Colt 22 and shaped like a pistol. It is made out of blond wood and really works great. I can load 4 rubber bands on it. A supply of an inch and a quarter sized rubber bands came with it. I can get some more at the office supply store when I run out. I have a Wrist Rocket which I have gotten real good a shooting. My grandpa got me one when I was just a kid so I could shoot the destructive birds out of his peach trees. I scared a lot of them away anyway and hit a few. :cp:

We got a little more snow but it is not lasting very long.

Yesterday when we were in picking up my little 22 the owner opened the box and put a bezel that goes around a coin for me. I have a beautiful silver dollar coin with walking Liberty on one side and an eagle on the other that I got as a present and want to wear it on a chain. I was looking on line to buy a bezel but now I don't have to. :cp: This little 22 is even smaller than my little 22 magnum gun that fits in my palm. I wanted this little 22 for it will shoot a lot quieter. When we are out trecking about I like to have it in my pocket for I have run into poisonous critters before and I could easily dispatch them.

JEAN Sounds like you are having the same amount of snow that we have been getting. It's too bad you can't stay longer in CA for it is a beautiful state ~ especially "up north."

DONNA FAYE & SUSAN I hope both of you are feeling much better today,

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

Jean 12-28-2014 03:57 PM

Good Afternoon! Day #2 of sunshine! *clap* *clap* *clap* Now if it would just warm up I would be a really happy camper! It's supposed to be colder as the week goes along. Went to early church; a herd of cattle could have run through and not hit anyone -- pretty slim attendance. Went out to breakfast and saw a lady who went last night and said there weren't many there either. I've read the papers, balanced our checkbook, and cleared off the counter. That just might be my effort for the day! :D Not much going on next week except for counting money and getting my nails done. It will be a quiet New Year's Eve in front of the TV.

Maggie, I didn't know about cutting the bills apart either. I have some two dollar bills and seriously thought about cutting them apart rather than going to the bank for more. I wonder how "they" could tell if I cut them myself? :dunno: The church, and Bob's office, both have really sharp paper cutters. So what are you going to shoot with your rubber band shooter? I gave Ian a silver dollar for Christmas, that was in the church offering plate. He was impressed as he had never seen one.

"Gma" and Susan, what are you up to today? :p

Hope you all are enjoying a nice Sunday!

Maggie 12-28-2014 04:26 PM

Sunny and COLD Sunday

GOOD AFTERNOON IN DECEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

Not much going on this chilly day in December except of course church.

I read an interesting little paragraph in the Dec issue of AMAC Advantage magazine about washing fruit and veggies. I am certainly going to do this and I will type it out here for you if you want to do it also:

WASH YOUR FRUIT AND VEGGIES IN VINEGAR
Washing your fruits and veggies in white vinegar removes waxes, film, pesticides, dirt, and mold particles, resulting in clean, pretty produce that doesn’t go bad as quickly. Clean your sink, fill it with water, and add 1 cup of vinegar. Once your sink is ready, add your fresh groceries and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse let dry, and place in fridge.

JEAN I don't know if they can tell if you cut the bills out with a sharp paper cutter. It seems kind of dopey to have to send them to them to cut them apart but that is the rules I read in the folder they came in. Did you know that silver dollars sell for $23 now? So the person that put it in the church plate was putting in that amount. Tell Ian that is what it is worth and maybe he will hang onto it for silver may go up again. I'll probably shoot mostly snakes with my sling shots. I have that little wooden one and two wrist rockets now. :cp:

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

Jean 12-29-2014 06:13 PM

Good Afternoon! Brrrrr! It's been another cold, but sunny day. A colder one tomorrow. We had extra money to count this morning and after I stopped to pick up the gift shop money it was almost noon by the time I got home. I went to get my nails done this afternoon and worked on the gift shop bookkeeping.

Maggie, I think I saw the same article about using vinegar to wash fruits and vegetables, on Facebook. I haven't tried it. Bob wondered if newer silver dollars were all silver. :dunno: The new pennies seem to be lighter in weight than the old ones. I thought maybe they would do away with pennies.

Not much else is newsy in my corner of the world. Hope you are all keeping warm and enjoy the evening.

gma22 12-29-2014 07:19 PM

Evening gals. I swear I thought I posted yesterday, but I read your posts after my last one and figure I didn't. It was chilly and overcast today. Gonna get into the 30's tonight and cold in the morning. Hope it warms up fairly early tomorrow.

I went anf got my nails done today instead of Sunday and ran some other errands. I got some country ribs for New Year's day and some other stuff at WM after getting my nails done, went and stood forever at the post office then came home.

Tomorrow I have a dr appt and we shall see what he wants to do. Feels like my abdomen is filling with fluid again. Have to ask him what causes that as Jack is pretty anxious about it.

Maggie: I didn't even know the public could purchase paper money in sheets. Interesting! We used to get silver dollars for gifts like bdays and such from relatives. I never kept mine but of course as a kid who thinks to keep them?

Jean: When is the wedding again? I don't know about the brunch thing as I haven't ever been to one down here and we yankee gals don't do it. I agree it sounds like hostess means pay for. 😄 I heard today there is a big artic cold front rolling into the west this week and as far south as San Diego may get some snow on New Year's eve. They're predicting snow for Las Vegas on that day too! Hopefully it wears itself out before moving east!!

You all have a nice evening. Faye

Maggie 12-29-2014 11:46 PM

Monday Snowey Monday

GOOD EVENING IN DECEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

Hallelujah it is snowing. The lawn is covered and so it is more than any we have gotten yet. We so need the moisture for the wheat etc. crops can grow. Cecil doesn’t like the snow for it covers his outdoor sand hole and has to use his indoor butt hut. He has meowing at me like I can make the snow stop. The dogs go out regardless if it is snowing or not. Beanie loves to chase the snow flakes and catch them in his mouth.

We had some more of that lovely chicken noodle soup for dinner and it sure hit the spot especially in this weather even though we were nice and warm and cozy in the house.

Tomorrow I am going to make a nice pot of chili beans with some little biscuits to accompany it. That should warm up the kitchen up enough.

I finally set up the voice message system on my phone today because my only sibling living complained he couldn’t leave me a message. Will now he can,. Always before I could tell he had called and I called him back.

JEAN My silver dollar is a 2014 one and is all silver so I guess that is why it cost $23. I don't know about the newer ones though.

DONNA FAYE Ribs sound good for New Years day. We have a spiral cut ham and I am mixing a can of whole cranberry sauce and a can of mandarin orange slices with a few chopped walnuts. I think I will mix up a box of dressing also.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

gma22 12-30-2014 06:48 AM

Good morning all. It is brrrr this morning and of course I have to be out and about with the dr appt. We aren't supposed to get any precipitation though so that's good.

Jack will be off for 5 days starting tomorrow. He is into his new year of vacation days so he has a lot since we aren't cruising this year. We are spending about 10 days in Indiana in June and I think 3-4 days in Sept in Branson but that is it for this year.

I sure hope the dr can figure out why I keep filling up with fluid. I know it concerns him so I figure he is going to send me for testing if he feels it is needed. I know he doesn't want to aspirate again because of the possibility of infection.

Maggie: I had a can of cranberry sauce in the cupboard and though it was a great way to get in some fruit until I did the pts and the Ocean Spray I had was 4 pts for 1/4 cup! I decided not to eat that. It probably had a lot of sugar in it for one thing. I didn't really look.

Well gals, short and sweet, but I have to get Jack to work. Have a good day. Faye

Jean 12-30-2014 12:29 PM

Good Morning! It was -11 when I came downstairs this morning. :brr: :brr: The sun is shining brightly but boy, oh boy, it's cold outside. It might hit 0 this afternoon. I had a scholarship coffee at the hospital this morning. The auxiliary gives three $500 scholarships each year, and our neighbor next door gave six $1000 scholarships in memory of his wife. Then I met Bob to go phone shopping and decided to spend $40 on a new battery for my dumb phone rather than buy a new smart phone. Since I have my iPad we figured there was no point in duplicating options. My phone does everything I need it to do. I need to make a grocery list and maybe visit WM after lunch.

"Gma," I hope your doctor appointment went well, and there is a simple solution for the fluid. I always get nervous no matter when or why I have to go to the doctor. The wedding is Jan. 31st and we are flying out on the 28th. We come home on the 1st. Will you stay in one place for the 10 days, in Indiana, or travel between friends and relatives? I don't remember how far apart everyone is that you like to visit. I really want to visit Branson when it's decorated for Christmas, but so far Bob isn't jumping up and down at the idea.

Maggie, I had to :D at Cecil not liking the snow. We did spiral cut hams for Christmas and used pineapple and juice on them. We put them in bags in the roaster, even though the directions said to wrap them in tinfoil. They turned out really good!

I need to start the laundry cycle, and then see what's hiding in the refrigerator for lunch. Hope you all are enjoying a terrific Tuesday!

Maggie 12-30-2014 03:18 PM

Snowing in the Heart Land

GOOD AFTERNOON IN DECEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

It is cold with the temperature at 5˚and snowing and blowing. I don’t know how much we have gotten so far but it has covered the surface quite well. Cecil just came in to use his butt hut so I know the snow is getting deep. I do not have to go anywhere day but Will has some errands to run and see the Doc. He had blood drawn yesterday and today the Doc will tell him if all the cancer cells have not come back that they killed.

After lunch I am going to get a pot of chili beans cooking for dinner. I will also make a pan of Krustaez® fat free cornbread. In this weather it will taste marvelous.

Our little waitress where we ate last evening was from Russia and was really nice and spoke excellent English. She said that they teach English in school over there. Anyway we had a good time talking with her and found out she is a college student here. Will was at the gun shop we do business with talking to the owner’s son who happened to be in there and he said something about his wife being from Russia and Will asked him if her name was … and the young man said yes that was his wife’s name and yes she does work at that restaurant. So she is the daughter in law of the owner of our favorite gun shop.

JEAN I also like doing a ham that way. The left-overs are so yummy when done that way. That is so great of those folks to give the help to students. I remember I got a scholar-ship from a women's organization that gave me one that paid for all my books. I just went into the student store and got the books I needed and they were paid for each time I did that. I could actually have gotten anything in that book store if I was a mind to but I was careful with that groups money. :cp: There was no set limit to what I could spend. They kinda adopted me during my collage years.

DONNA FAYE I didn't realize that you weren't going on a cruise for your vacation for I thought you had put money down on it already or was that for 2016. Hopefully your doc can figure out what is causing that fluid buildup and fix it. Branson is fun.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

Good Morning! It's warmed up two degrees since I got up, now -8, and -27 wind chill. :brr: I've been out and about already this morning. I have one headlight that turns off and on "whenever." I seldom drive at night but Bob noticed it. My headlights turn with the steering wheel so I hope it is something simple to fix. We took the car to the garage and they will bring it back to me when they are finished. I'm thinking about gathering up the Christmas things from around the house. I like to get everything in one place and pack it all at one time. I usually overlook something.

Maggie, you can keep your snow! ;) I know it is winter, but we started so early that spring seems so far away. I hope Will got a good report from his doctor.

I need to get busy! There are fur bunnies floating around and I need to capture them if I don't do anything else today. Enjoy a wonderful Wednesday, and may you all have a blessed new year!

Last Day of the Year

GOOD MORNING IN DECEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

It is a chilly day here in the♥-Land and the temperature is ZERO. Yep that is 0. Colder with the wind blowing but it isn’t blowing bad as of yet. When the day gets going later it will no doubt kick up its pace. I am thankful for the nice heater we have in this house for it certainly isn’t cold in here. :cp:

Those chili beans last evening were so yummy and hit the spot. It has been a while since I had made any and it was time. I’ll be starting back on my drink program tomorrow and so Will will have some “left-overs” to heat up of them and have a good meal.

Will got a good report from his Doc yesterday and will go back again in 6 months to be tested then again in a year. He is cancer free. YIPEKIO. He is over at the gun shop now having coffee with our friend the owner.

JEAN We do the same with our decorations which makes it so much easier to pack them away. Yep, tis the season for cold weather for sure. I hope they get your car fixed soon.

Good morning to you all. It is cold here this morning but of course no where near Jean's thank goodness. I have had a sweater on and blankets over my legs and I am still cold today. I think it was about 29 with 20 wind chill which is cold for us. It is overcast but no precipitation.

Jack is watching ongoing bowl games for the next couple days and what a bore that is. I just let him watch the stuff knowing it will be over in a couple days. I just bought a couple books to read along with my bazillion other ones I haven't read yet.

Well, I went to the dr yesterday and he said it was hard and bigger than before so out came the syringes. He had more trouble getting the stuff out though he said it wasn't thick and he didn't know why it was so slow. I had to lay on one of those awful beds with the end pulled out for 90 minutes. By the time he was done he had taken over 9 syringes of stuff out, my back was killing me to sit up, I was dizzy from laying flat for so long and my ankle hurt from hanging over the end. Not a very nice rest of the day since it gave me an upset stomach for the rest of the evening for some reason. I have to go back in next Tuesday and if fluid has built up I have to go to the hospital and have an ultrasound and they will put in a drain. If it isn't one thing, it is another. I should have known when the surgery went so easy I would have some other trouble down the road. :D I have to keep the pressure bandage on for another day but the darn adhesive on the tape is causing a rash and itching like crazy. Dr. Wheat is really worried about infection of course and yesterday had to use several syringes and he stuck me about 15 times and even pushed on my abdomen trying to get the stuff to come out of the needle holes. Crazy! We had sandwiches for dinner because my back hurt so much I couldn't stand up and do much last night. I am ok this morning, but the cold is making my knee hurt a lot.

Jean: Yikes!!! Hopefully by weekend it will warm up for you. I saw on ESPN that San Diego got ice, but it warmed up this morning and they were sweeping the melted iced off the football field for the bowl game. Do you vacuum or use a Swiffer type thing or a broom or what to do your floors? I would always miss at least one thing of decorations to put away. I have a bag where I put stuff then put it away if it is convenient if not it stays there until the following Christmas. I will have to remember the bag trip because we always found the hams dried out if they were spiral sliced. I rarely buy them because there is just the two of us, but I do like a good ham.

Maggie: Great news about Will. I am sure he is glad he is now cancer free. Looks like you have the cold weather too. I need to email my friend that lives in Kansas city and see how they are doing with their weather.

Everyone have a nice holiday. I don't know if we will still be up at midnight, but Jack did buy some bubbly to toast the new year. Faye

Bob is glued to a football game -- uniforms are orange and bright blue for one team and dark pink and navy for the other. My Chex party mix is almost done, and then I can wash the pan and utensils. It seems like all I get done is clean up the kitchen. :p

Maggie, I'm so glad Will got a good report! :cp: :cheer: I have a new headlight to the tune of $265! It's covered under warranty, but so expensive because the headlights move. :twirly:

"Gma," I'm sorry about your experience at the doctor's yesterday. The unknown is scary. I hope you feel better tonight. If I'm doing a "hit and miss" I use an electric Hoover broom vac. If I need to really hit the corners I have a Dyson animal vacuum; it's heavy and I hate hauling it up and down the stairs. Plus the animal extension wand is not the handiest imo. For the ceramic tile and laminate I have a steam mop I like, and Bob likes just the plain wet mop, but he can push harder than I can. I am seriously thinking about carpet for the additon part because with the two sliding doors the floor is cold. That would cut down on the noise and put carpet in the TV area and under the kitchen table. I'd really like to carpet the livingroom again but Bob fusses about the traffic pattern that eventually will show. I noticed this afternoon, that the skylight in the bathroom has leaked. It's recessed up in the ceiling and there is an obvious water stain where it dripped down the side. :( If it isn't one thing, it's another! Fix, repair, fix, repair . . . . .

Susan, what are you doing tonight? Hope you are feeling better!

Enjoy your evening, the end of another fast year!

Happy New Year To You! It is "warming" up, and 23 degrees right now. However, the wind is blowing pretty good. The poor little birds have to chase their seeds across the deck. We've had several cardinals arrive and the blue jays don't like them. Both are so pretty but the blue jays are so scrappy. The parade is on tv, and the people there look cold too. I've done a load of laundry and fixed a casserole for dinner. The Christmas decorations are still where they were yesterday, and may stay there until Sunday. We are thinking about a road trip, to Sioux City tomorrow, to look for a new love seat or couch for the TV area and new kitchen cupboard handles. I have 44 plates and handles so can see the $$ adding up.

Our neighborhood was really quiet last night. There aren't any high school or college kids on our block, and four empty houses. I like it like that! I fell asleep before midnight, woke up about 12:15 and went to bed.

Wishing you a blessed 2015! May this be the best year for you, your friends, and families.

Good afternoon ladies. Blesedly quiet for just a bit as Jack didn't want to watch the rest of the current bowl game so he is upstairs in his office. It is raining like crazy though as you can hear it and it is quite chilly so I sure hope it doesn't freeze tonight.

I ordered two pairs of another dress shoe in reg and wide width and the only two colors available until February. We shall see if these will be the ticket and if so I'll order them in black with the width that fits best and send the other pair back. I just cannot find shoes here in town that look dressy and fit ok. I have big flat feet a deadly combination. Of course back when i was in high school it was impossible to find a size 10 and I used to have to wear shoes a size small. Now a lot of models have big feet so they sell up through 12 as a norm many places.

Jean: I thought Dyson's were all supposed to be light weight. :D I have a great vacuum but it weighs as much as a small child. I can't even get it upstairs, Jack has to take it for me. Ahh, Bob must have watched Jack's favorite team yesterday and they won!!! You should see their stadium grass as it is that bright
blue.

You Gals have a nice New Year's day. I am going to fix some scalloped potatoes and baked beans to go with my ribs. No black eyed peas as Jack won't eat them and being a Yankee I have never had them so guess no good luck for us. :) Faye
