GOOD AFTERNOON IN DECEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

I stayed in the Jeep in the Wal*Mart parking lot while Will was inside buying my powdered fiber which I use in my evening drink. Right now during the holiday times I am just trying to “maintain.” There are just too many goodies being given to us these days. January looks like a good place to get a good go at losing weight for it starts a brand new year. We have been invited to dinner on New Year’s Day by the folks that had invited us on Thanksgiving and wanted to ask us on Christmas but we will be coming from home from Texas. So it looks like we will go to our friends place on New Year’s Day.

DONNA FAYE In the Jeep we have the power port like where a cigarette lighter could be put and next to it is a covered power outlet also. Since we have a rag top and had the back window washer removed we use that switch in the dash for our lights above our wench. For the cigarette ports we have a crock pot which plugs in there and they also make other small appliances that plug in there. We have used our small crock pot which plugs in there and it sits nicely between my feet on the floor. I like to keep it there so it doesn’t tip over. It makes it nice to have a hot meal when traveling in the out-back trekking along.

JEAN It is neat that the small space where the astray would have been is covered so one of those little calendars fits snugly right there. I really like the fact we have two hot ports we can use for appliances if we choose. I have a plug in that fits them to charge my cell phone in.

Good Morning! The sun is shining, wind is blowing, and we are supposed to hit 40 this afternoon. I just spent an hour looking through several invoices, and matching cancelled checks, from a gift shop supplier. I found one of two; the newest buyer stapled the original invoice to another invoice and I didn't catch it when I wrote checks on 11/4. Grrrrr! The other one was a partial shipment and no one seems to know if we ever got the rest of the stuff. Then I spent some time on the phone with the other internet, cable, phone company in town. The one we are using just raised the rate $15 for 2015. We're paying $141 now and have way too many Mexican and duplicate channels imo. The standard excuse is the channels come bundled to them, and they can't pick and choose for individual towns. I find that hard to believe.

Maggie, I will often sit in the car and people watch while Bob runs into a store. I often wonder of some people own a mirror.

Now I'm off to a Christmas open house put together by a couple talented cooks, bakers, and crafters from our church. Later this afternoon we head north for Ian's band concert tonight.

Hope you all enjoy a terrific Thursday today!

Thursday & a Very Nice Cool Day

GOOD AFTERNOON IN DECEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

Will has gone to the museum for his afternoon volunteer work. He is working on an old pioneer that has a relative that has been sending him some great things about the old gent. He sure led an interesting and rather tragic life. Anyway it is quite interesting and valuable to the museum.

I am going to address some Christmas cards today for I have some stamps now that are festive. Some real cute gingerbread houses which look a lot like my glass houses and a pack of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer that are in cartoon form and cute. Anyway I should get those cards addressed.

Each evening we go out and about to see the beautiful lighted houses and there are more each time we go. The folks here really get to decorating after Thanksgiving and make the little place look quite festive. It is fun to see all the nicely decorated store windows on the main street. Life is good in the slow lane.

The birds are sure twitterpating today ~ their feeders were filled this morning. We feed the little bunnies that live under the shed out back popcorn they give us that is day old at the business supply store. I dump it outside the fence so the dogs and cat stay out of it. Cecil loves stalking the bunnies when they come for the corn but he can't get to them. :p

JEAN There are only a couple programs that we watch on TV for there is so much "junk" on it now days. We are thinking about dumping it again and just watch movies on the set. We were without for about 5 years and were better off for it.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

gma22 12-05-2014 07:46 AM

Good morning to you all. Warmer but wet this morning and supposed to rain all day. I could have told them that as my shoulder bone is very achy this morning so guess it is the heating pad for me today.

I only have to Kitchener stitch the toe and it is done. One of the problems is that on the first sock I did the toe decreases differently and wrote down what I did but then looked at the instructions and couldn't figure out what I meant. :^: So, when I got to the toe for the second sock I kept putting it aside knowing I would have to figure it out, which I did eventually so all I have is the one row to close it up and I am done.

I ordered undies that are near they size they are supposed to be and since I bought them on sale, their website says exchange only, but I gave them a piece of my mind about the size thing and then the fact they didn't even send me the panties I wanted. I ordered 8 different colors in a ribbed pattern and two that had a flower stitched in front. They sent me 6 and 4 and not the right colors. GRRRR As for the size, they used like 3x, 4x etc for sizes but then didn't have a size chart on the website. I found one type of panty that had the hip sizes so ordered according to it, but it is at least 3 sizes off on the undies I ordered. I told them that I have ordered hundreds of dollars of their stuff in the past and if they didn't refund my money we were done and I mean it. I found undies somewhere else with exact hip sizes for the particular panties so am going to order them today. You can't just walk into a store and buy undies for me. JMS has been bought by Hanes and since then they have made theirs smaller and cut higher which cuts right into my incisions so they are a no go any longer. I bought a couple pair from somewhere else a couple years ago and the fit is great but the darn things are $12 a pair, which is ridiculous for plain white cotton undies. More than you wanted to know about my underwear purchases I am sure.

I bought Jack three turtlenecks from Lands End and they should be here today. He likes to wear them with sweaters in the winter time. I got a great deal. I have to buy him talls or they are too short and that costs more. They were $29 apiece but with them being on sale and I had a coupon I got them for $17 apiece! I pay that much for stuff at Walmart for him and these are great quality and last a long time. He has some that are at least 15 yrs old.

Jean: Sorry about your money snafu. I know it has to be irritating. Our gas is between $2.29 and $2.32 most places, but then we have a refinery here in town and that drops the price. A lot has to do with taxes from the city and state on gas I think. They said we should be below $2 a gallon by next year. Take that OPEC!!! We have Direct tv and have their premium package and pay with taxes and all $120. I find it hilarious that you live in a large Mexican community and have a lot of Hispanic channels and we live in a large black community and have a bazillion channels aimed at blacks yet they say they don't do the channels by areas. Bologna!!! We have had Direct Tv for 13 years and except for the weather issue, we have had no problems with them. Hope you enjoyed Ian's band concert. Thomas's is Tuesday and I am dreading it. They have awful seating and a terrible band director. I am surprised the kids learn anything. He is a total dope. You know, the thing about Cosby has come up before and he has denied it and it goes away, but he isn't coming out denying like he did before and frankly, with this being repeated again I am pretty sure it is accurate. I know the Navy pulled the plug on him.

Maggie: I finally got my second order of Christmas cards so will finish the ones I need to and get them mailed. I have the three wise men stamps and a book of stamps that are Rudolph the Red nosed Reindeer. I noticed they are coming out with a Janice Joplin stamp. Sheesh honoring a heroin addict who overdosed, just great! Do you by any chance watch "Blue Bloods?" We love that show and just started watching the reruns of it a few months ago so we are trying to catch up. Love Tom Selleck!

Well gals I should go. You all have a nice weekend. Faye

QuilterInVA 12-05-2014 10:27 AM

Good morning, ladies! 48 degrees right now.

I've been sick for 2 weeks now. We have some kind of respiratory thing going around the area and, of course, I had to get it. I am finally starting to feel better...a good thing because my eye surgery is next Thursday. I've been to the doctor 3 times. Good thing we can't pass germs on the internet!

Casper and I have been enjoying watching the ducks and squirrels.

Faye, I'm enjoying knitting again. I have Cox cable tv right now. I switch between Cox and Verizon every 2 years because they have great packages. Right now I'm paying $91.37 for phone, internet, and premium cable with the price guaranteed for 2 years. When the 2 years are up, it would be $177 so I'll go back to Verizon/Direct TV.

Jean, we not only have hispanic channels, but also oriental. Gas is $2.35 here; there is a refinery in Yorktown so that helps keep the cost down. It'll be going up 5 cents a gallon January 1 when a new state tax goes into effect.

Maggie, I really think I'd enjoy living in a smaller town. I had no idea you could get appliances that worked in a vehicle like that.

Have a wonderful day!

Jean 12-05-2014 03:49 PM

Good Afternoon! We got up to dense fog this morning. Now it's just gloomy, damp, and cold even though the thermometer says it's 41 degrees outside. The month late check that I took to the hospital yesterday, got left on her desk when the volunteer director was called out on a family emergency. She left a message on my answering machine about doing the end of the week paperwork today, so bright and early this morning I went to her office to get the check and take it upstairs to accounting. I asked if it could possibly be signed and put in the mail leaving town today. Then I spent time on the phone, with the bank first (no missing checks there) and then the company, no missing checks received there either. Now I have to reissue the checks and get them in the mail on Monday, I hope. I bet the original checks will show up eventually unless I did something stupid and put the wrong address on the envelope. In that case they should come back to the hospital. Then I braved the grocery store to get the makings for a cake to take to church on Sunday. Tomorrow we will be gone most of the day for Ian's birthday shindig.

Maggie, in driving home last night we noticed a lot more Christmas lights, especially in the country. In one town, a large two story home, with a huge detached garage, had outlined all doors and windows, the buildings, trees, and sidewalks with lights. They have a walkway surrounding a yard full of lighted decorations, and lighted arches throughout. Bob tried to take some pictures which show up great on the computer but didn't print very well for some reason. I can't imagine what their electric bill must be, but being on the main highway lots of people can enjoy the display.

"Gma," I hope once you get started on the sock you can figure out what you did on the first one. I know it's not funny but your undies story gave me the giggles.

Susan, it's nice to see you but I'm sorry you have been sick. Glad you are feeling better. When I get back from the hospital I'm going to call our cable company and see if they will give me their current new customer package deal.

I need to go pick up the gift shop money, and do the paperwork for the week. Enjoy the rest of your day!

Fabulous Friendly Fantastic Friday

GOOD AFTERNOON IN DECEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

It is a very beautiful day here in the ♥-Land, It is said by the “talking heads” that we will be having days like it for two weeks.

We just got back from having the Jeep worked on. The “check engine” light has been coming on occasionally and we have had it in before but evidently those young guys didn’t know how to read the results of the diagnostic test. Finally today there was a person who could read it and fixed the problem. It was a sensor that had gone bad and was sending the wrong message so they replaced it to the tune of a couple hundred dollars and it runs like it is supposed to now. :cp:

We went to Wal*Mart and I waited in the Jeep and a black Jeep Cherokee pulled in beside us and 2 men got out and I heard one of them say, “I would sure rather like to have that Jeep Rock Crawler than this one! Too bad, this one is not for sale. Besides he would have to wait in line for there are other folks who would like to buy it. There are quite a lot of Jeeps in this town but none quite like we have this one set up with the wench and all. It is certainly cheaper for us to keep this paid for vehicle than buying a new one and have those payments. Fixing things once in awhile isn’t so bad for we are still money ahead. We are so glad to get that problem fixed in the Jeep before our trip to Texas next month. When we get back we can concentrate on getting the things we want to get for the Jeep and MH.

DONNA FAYE You will get that pair of sox done in plenty of time for the giving. :D

JEAN Hopefully you do get those checks back that you may have mailed to the wrong address.

SUSAN I am so sorry you have been feeling under the weather but glad you are getting much better now. They do make quite a number of appliances that can be plugged into the port on the dash.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

gma22 12-06-2014 10:59 AM

Good morning all. We went out early to mail Jackson's Christmas package, mail those darn undies back and mail our Christmas cards. I worked for about an hour trying to find a friend from high school. I spent time at her house all the time and her parents and all her brothers and sisters were great to me. I lost touch with her 30 years ago and haven't been able to find her or family members and was determined to find her this year. It was a spaghetti type work but I found her address so sent her a letter and a Christmas card. Sadly, her dad died in June and he was a total hoot. Makes you feel old when you know a lot of your friends' parents are in the 80+ so are probably deceased.

I finished the sock. :carrot: I didn't want to do it with the laundry I am doing today, but will do it with my next undies and towels load. I am washing Jack's new turtlenecks and I don't know if they might bleed some in the wash even though it is cold water.

Today is the big ST Jude's marathon. Tom and Thomas are running the half this year. Thomas runs 10+ miles several times a week so it will be a walk in the park for him. It is in the low 50's today but a bit windy. The temp will be good to run in not too hot and not too cold. to Thomas and good luck to him!!

Jean: What a mess with the checks. Hopefully they will just come back to you with the wrong address. It can take 3 weeks to get them back. I don't know why it takes so long but it sure does. Happy Birthday to Ian. He is sure growing up fast. He must be a chick magnet he is such a cutey. :D What kind of cake did you make. I decided to wait to make the caramel corn until the week of Christmas so it will be fairly fresh. If I make it I am going to eat it as Jack doesn't eat caramel corn. I want it for Christmas Eve to take to Kelly's.

Maggie: We just had a lady yesterday in broad daylight around 2:30 PM accosted at gun point and robbed going into the mall to Penney's. I told Jack anytime you pull into a parking lot you have to be aware of people around you before you even get out of the car anymore.

Susan: Hope you are on the mend. We too have a refinery here in town so gas is a bit cheaper. I am currently back to knitting the pillows that will go on the new furniture. Going to take some time for sure.

You all have a nice Saturday. Faye

Jean 12-06-2014 09:55 PM

Good Evening! I am heading to bed in a few minutes. It's been a long day! We left in fog this morning, and had sunshine for most of the day. The kids had a "wonderful" time jumping on trampolines for an hour. They were individual sections of a fabric mounted on springs but all were level so no edges to fall over. One end had a pit of foam blocks that the kids could jump and flip into. The capacity was 400 so lots of kids in all shapes and sizes. Even some adults were jumping with the littlest children. We adults sat and had coffee for the hour. I was tempted to go to the mall but decided not a good idea on a weekend.

Maggie, glad your Jeep sensor was the problem and now is fixed.

"Gma," I made a coffee cake using a yellow cake mix and topped with cinnamon, sugar, and nuts. It doesn't look quite like I remember but "oh well."

Hope you all enjoy a nice relaxing Sunday tomorrow!

QuilterInVA 12-07-2014 11:03 AM

Good morning, ladies! 43 degrees hoping to get to 48 this day.

I didn't go to church today and that felt strange. I talked to Father Jim about the doc telling me to stay out of crowds and he said it would be okay for me to go to weekday Mass in place of Sunday for the winter. There are only about 12 people at daily mass and it's usually the same ones so that should work better for me.

Tomorrow is applique bee at Bella Fabrics so that will be my outing for the week. The girls in my bees have always been considerate about not coming if they even think they are getting sick.

Thursday is my eye surgery - I can hardly wait.

Faye, your undie story must have been shaking around in my brain for last night I dreamed I was at the department store to get new undies and they has 27 different styles! I couldn't decide what I wanted so I decided to wear none at all and save the money. Where that came from I don't know. I like Jockey undies - the ones for ladies - and get bikini or boy shorts. Most of my pants are low rise so need that style. I have an older pair of jeans that come up to my waist and spent yesterday pulling them up all day. The waist on regular jeans is always too big. Carmel corn sounds so good.

Jean - I'll bet your coffee cake was really good. I need to explore some more gluten free recipes. I hope your checks turn up soon.

Maggie, we have a lot of pretty decorated places here already. There is one farm that goes all out with huge displays and thousands of lights. They "charge" a can of food for the food bank for each car and get hundreds of cans.

Have a wonderful day.

Jean 12-07-2014 05:30 PM

Good Afternoon! It's a very dark gloomy day in my corner of the world today. Went to early church and stayed for the farewell coffee between services. My cake turned out pretty good if I do say so myself! Bob put the tree up but have to replace some lights so haven't decorated it yet. He is taking a nap with Ernie sharing the footstool and Sonny snuggled up next to Bob. What a threesome! Wish I had to remote to find something on tv besides football. I've got laundry going and have read the paper. Being gone all day yesterday makes me feel tired and lazy today.

Susan, I don't know if we have a daily mass here or not. I'm glad you will be able to go to one with so few people. :cp: I will be thinking of you, with prayers on Thursday, and hope all goes well with the surgery.

I hear the dryer buzzing so time to fold towels. Hope you all the rest of your day and evening!

gma22 12-08-2014 07:40 AM

Good morning to you all. It is back to being chilly this morning but at least it is dry. I am going to clean, clean, clean today and it is sloppy joes for dinner so I can get work done today.

My lower back has been giving me fits and I thought maybe it was from the surgery because the stoma I think he called it has not gone down. Nope, the female stuff started up again yesterday. I should have known. I have heard nothing about my lab results so guess I am going to have to call the dr's and leave a message as that is all you can do with this practice and you never get a call back for sure. The only direct lines I have is the referral office and the pharmacy number.

We got the packages off to the post office along with all the Christmas cards so Jackson will have his presents some time this week. I don't know why I guess because of how much I insured them for but they are going to require a signature, which isn't going to make them happy because they will have to go pick them up but I couldn't help it.

We did commissary shopping yesterday and then went out to lunch and talked football. I told Jack he was lucky he had a wife that paid enough attention that understood it all because it sure doesn't interest me. We came home, I folded up a load of towels and blocked Thomas's socks, which are drying now and that was it. We watched the Librarian movies and then I watched the new Librarian series about halfway and fell asleep so don't even know how it ended.

Please pray for one of my FB friends. She is my older sister's best friend. Her name is Mary Lynn Kurtz and a few years back she lost one of her sons to some kind of accident. On Thursday her teenage grandson, the son of the man that was killed, was hit by a drunk driver and killed. It is such a sad thing to live past your children and now grandchildren.

Susan: I will be praying for you that your surgery goes very well. I know I am surely going to try one toric lense and one bifocal lense next year when I get new contacts. I just don't see that great without my astigmatism correction and need a toric lense for that. Hope you continue to get better and better. I have a FB friend who is a gal I used to babysit in high school. She got the respitory flu and ended up in the hospital on Friday with strep, pneumonia and the flu.

Jean: If I put on streusel topping I used butter and brown sugar usually and don't do the nuts. Glad the cake came out yummy. Do you swirl it in or just crumble on top? I put it through the cake. I get the FF blueberry muffin mix and make a coffee cake out of it once in awhile. Jack watched the Iowa St game on Saturday and I told him Bob may be watching and would not be happy as Iowa St got creamed I think.

Everyone have a good week. I have another surgical recheck tomorrow so we shall see what he says. It is my last referral apt so if he wants to see me further I have to get another referral. Faye

Jean 12-08-2014 05:35 PM

Good Afternoon! We did have some sunshine earlier but it's been dark and gloomy this afternoon. The wind continues to blow so the outside temperature doesn't feel very nice. We had lots of money to put in lots of different accounts this morning. We were $100 off and after we double checked all of the checks vs the envelopes, the secretary had miscounted one pile of cash. Glad it was "Miss Perfect's" mistake and not mine! :D Then I was $5.00 off on my grand total; nothing on the computer is in the order I post so it's hard to check. :( Sometimes the secretary can find it right away when we go over it together. Today she said to leave it and she would look for it later. Stopped by the hospital to drop off checks and by then it was lunch time. This afternoon I went back to do the paperwork and search for a missing invoice. The buyer was there and ended up calling the company; they never shipped the missing item on the invoice I had. Bob is at practice and now I need to think about something for supper. Sometimes it seems like all I get done is cook and clean up the kitchen!

"Gma," how sad about Mary Lynn's son and grandson. Some families have more than their share of sorrow. Bob didn't get to watch the game Saturday since we were in Sioux Falls. He's wondering if the coach will get fired since his record is worse than the NE coach. :dunno: Hope you got all of your cleaning done, and your lab results too.

I'm ready to sit and veg for the evening! Hope you all enjoy your evening!

gma22 12-09-2014 09:07 AM

Good morning ladies. Fast post as I have to leave for my dr appointment in just a couple minutes.

Got my downstairs all cleaned yesterday so that is all done. We have T's concert tonight so going to be a busy day.

6 lbs down so will take that. I am trying to be very careful as I know I will not be strict close to Christmas and such. I gave up trying to do that just try to keep up best I could.

Jean: It is fire the coaches time of year for sure. There have been a bunch of them again this year, some make sense, some don't. Glad your money got all cleared up.

Everyone have a good day. I am out of here to go see my surgeon and see what he has to say today. Faye

Jean 12-09-2014 01:59 PM

Good Afternoon! It's another gloomy day in my corner of the world; no wind but a colder temperature so guess that's a trade off from yesterday. I know I won't be spending any time standing around outside. I spent the morning getting a perm and as usual, don't like the cut. I don't know why I waste my breath telling her what I want because she does it "her" way anyhow. You'd think after 36 years she would notice which way I comb it! This afternoon I have to take a check, and write another one, to the hospital. Have laundry to do and a tree to decorate. Personally, the tree could stay as is. I wonder if anyone would notice.

"Gma," I hope your doctor appointment was a good one. :congrat: On losing 6#s! :cp: That is a challenge during this time of year. I will keep my fingers crossed that you get a comfy seat at the concert tonight. Are Thomas' other grandparents able to go?

Hope you all are enjoying a sunny day and doing something fun!
