Thursday & a Very Nice Sunny Day
♪♥♫ GOOD AFTERNOON IN SEPTEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫
This is the day we usually go have lunch with the museum group but I opted to stay home and have one of my meal replacement drinks. I ate two meals yesterday so today I am planning on having two of my drinks today to compensate. I slept clear through the night and really feel rested this day. What woke me up was the neighborhood dogs singing their song all up and down the alley. It is “trash day” and it sets them all off. I happen to like poached eggs but didn’t like making them until I ran across this handy hint. Take a piece of plastic wrap and place it over a coffee mug. Then crack one egg into the mug, but of course the egg doesn't actually touch the mug, it stays inside the plastic wrap. Then lift the whole thing out and bring the corners together and take a twist-tie to close it up. Since you're only making one light breakfast with some fruit, you can use any pan or frying pan that has a cover. Put about 3 inches of water into the pan, bring to a boil, and then cut off the flame completely. Gently lower the plastic 'bag' containing the egg into the water, then cover it, but don't turn the flame back on. From this point on, you'll have to experiment on the time, but it's 2 to 3 minutes. Don't let the yolk get hard if you want it runny. This is yummy on a piece of sour dough toast or if you like rice cakes (and I don’t) give it a try on the bumpy side. Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up . |
Good Afternoon! It's a beautiful day in my neighborhood; sunny, no wind, and warm enough for doors and windows to be open. Love this weather! I spent the morning having coffee with my retired teacher friend. She is having a lumpectomy next week. This afternoon was the Auxiliary meeting and the new gift shop buyer questioned my report figures after the meeting. The figure paid out is marked up for the sale price which doesn't reflect in my figures. I just pay the bills, I don't refigure the %^{£~¥ things! As long as the checkbook balances each month I am a happy camper! I've done two loads of laundry and am calling it good for today! Tomorrow morning is nails and defurring/decluttering the house!
Maggie, that is an interesting way to make a poached egg. Let me know how it works. I used to have a tiny little pan for that but I hardly ever used it. I like them but Bob isn't too crazy about them. Bob was asked to help usher at the funeral on Saturday. The bell choir will have reserved seats so we can all sit together. It will be a tough one to attend. I haven't read the daily paper yet so guess I will do that. Hope you all enjoy a nice rest of the day and evening! |
Good Afternoon! It's another nice day in my neighborhood. Doors and windows are open again today! I had my nails done this morning and made a WM stop. I bought a water filtering pitcher this summer; it's too big and heavy when it's full of water plus the top falls off if I tip it too far. Well, I picked out a new one and it is the same size as the one I already have! :hyper: It didn't look that big in the store. I will take it back and exchange it next week. Later this afternoon I have to close out the gift shop book work for the week. I can bring the money home with me and deposit it tomorrow morning, saving me a trip on Monday. I'm co-hostess for a meeting on Monday so need to bake cookies sometime this weekend. We are meeting at a pizza place which is a first. It will be interesting.
I need to do a few dishes before I head to the hospital. Hope you all enjoy a fantastic Friday! |
Good afternoon, ladies! 72 degrees and sunshine today.
My car passed inspection with no repairs needed and I got an oil change so good to go again. I went to Glory Bee Thursday and Needle in Hand Bee on Friday. Lots of fun and a delicious lunch. My friend made dessert for Glory Bee and went to the trouble of making me gluten free brownies from the Krutzen (sp?) mix. They should have a warning on the box that it is made in a factory that uses wheat because I have been itching for 2 days and that was the only thing different in what I have been eating. I'll not tell her that, but will tell the ladies I'm strictly low carbing and not eating desserts of any kind. Jean, you are such a loyal member of the group. I feel bad I don't post every day but my life is pretty dull. I go to the gym, do a little housework, read and quilt every day. Hi Maggie, it was good to see your posts. Have a wonderful day. |
Good Afternoon! The sun is shining after a rainy morning, and the deck doors are open so Sonny can keep the squirrels off the deck. There are a couple of brave ones who come to eat but run fast when Sonny jumps at them. The funeral this morning was a tough one for me. Kathy and I stood next to each other in bell choir for many years. She had a dog and the picture on the program cover included her dog. I knew the dog was old and had some health issues of her own. After the lunch I visited with a sister and asked about the dog. She had been put down a few weeks ago, and her ashes will be scattered in the park where they walked every day.
Susan, glad your car passed inspection! That must be a state requirement because we don't have to do it. There are lots of cars on the road, here, that should be inspected! I'm sorry the brownies caused you to suffer the itching. I can't imagine how miserable that would be for you. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to find the thread if it falls off the first few in th list. I think I only have four, maybe five, on the page. I always enjoy seeing what you have been doing. I need to change clothes and make a path through the kitchen. I had it clean and picked up last night but no one would know it now. :( Enjoy the rest of your day! |

Not much at all going on around here than the unusual stuff. I am baking pork chops over a pan of stuffing which will be yummy for dinner in awhile. In a catalogue I found the cutest “Urban Poultry Palace" for 2 to 4 chickens that is 115” L x 48” W x 28” deep and a 4 food long enclosure on each side where the chickens can have room roam ~ they want $400 for it. I cut out the picture and Will can build one for much less than that if we want to have some penned up chickens when we stay in Texas. JEAN Funerals for those close to one are hard ones for the surviving folks. I know you will be glad that you went. SUSAN That was sure nice of that gal to make the special brownies for you even though she didn't get it right for what you can eat. You did good to not mention that. Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up . |
Good Morning! It's another beautiful fall day in my neighborhood. We've been to church, had a second cup of coffee with a piece of "creme" cake resembling angel food, and read the Sunday paper. Plan for the day is to bake cookies for the meeting tomorrow. We are meeting for lunch at a pizza place which has a noon buffet including dessert pizza. Maybe no one will want cookies. Other than that, it's the usual pick up the clutter and I should vacuum fur bunnies. The way the cats are shedding we should have a warm winter this year!
Maggie, I had to :) at the Poultry Palace. You would have a lot invested if you ordered that one. With my luck the chickens would all die! It's good that Will is handy and can make one for you. Hope you all enjoy a nice Sunday in your corner of the world! |

I am so distraught. I only wear my sunglasses outside for my eyes are sensitive to light and don’t need glasses to see in the house. I wear “readers” for close work and it all works for me and I don’t wear my clear glasses at all. The reason I am distraught is that I have lost a lens out of my shades. It was there when I came into the house but now it has disappeared. I imagine it may have fallen out on the kitchen table where I laid them and I didn’t notice it falling out for I headed for another room. I imagine the cat snagged that lens and carried it off somewhere for it is nowhere to be found. I know the lens was in the frame when I came into the house. Hopefully I can see my eye doc soon and get a pair ordered. If I don’t like any of the frames now being offered I’ll have new lenses put in the fames I have. They are metal frames and still fit fine and cost me a bundle when I bought them. Other than that bit of trauma the day is going well. :cp: JEAN We will have to have our chickens penned up if we do stay at our friends ranch so the dogs won't play them to death. But come to think of it our host does have a few free range chickens that his dogs don't bother. We will just have to wait and see if we build that Chicken Palace. I think we will for we will want to collect the eggs and not have to hunt for them all over the ranch. Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up . |
Good Morning! It's a warm cloudy morning with some rain drops in the mix. There wasn't much money at church today so I was finished early. I had the gift shop money counted and stopped by the bank on my way home. I think I am losing my mind! I am co-hosting a meeting at a pizza place for P.E.O. So today I called one of two ladies I pick up on my way. The first one acted really confused, and then said, "the meeting is next Monday, not today!" Boy, did I ever feel stupid! I even baked cookies, and had a box of fall/Halloween decorations to put on tables. Needless to say, I didn't call the second lady! So guess I will continue with the rest of my day! There is laundry waiting and the never ending dust to conquer.
Maggie, I hope the lens for your sunglasses has turned up! I just watched a video of a cat who roamed the neighborhood bringing home odds 'n ends of clothing and toys. I hope Cecil isn't guilty. I've never collected chicken eggs but remember my grandma saying how the chickens would peck at her. The rooster would chase us around the yard and I remember being afraid of him. I need to get busy! Hope you all enjoy a marvelous Monday! |

I never did find that eye glass lens and it is time anyway to see the eye doc so I now have an appointment on 10-6 for an exam. If my vision has changed I plan on keeping the frames I have for I like them and they were quite spendy. I don’t see why I can’t keep them since they are still in good shape and surely they can’t force me to buy new ones. I am making breakfast for dinner since we were given some fresh laid hen eggs from a friend that lives out of the city limits where she can keep chickens. I have been busy looking through some catalogues and tossing them so have quite a few to put in the outside trash can. JEAN Will the things you bake freeze good so you can take them out in time for the meeting? Better to be early then forget and be late. Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up . |
Good morning, ladies! 66 degrees and overcast right now. I think our hot weather is done for this year so we had a very nice summer.
I'm really congested this morning (allergies) so I'm giving myself permission not to do water aerobics so I can do yoga this afternoon. Yoga is 1 hour 45 minutes so a long class. I'll be teaching at the 2B's retreat Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Seems like that came on really fast. I really like those ladies. Jean, I've gone to meetings on the wrong day - actually went to the place which fortunately was the community center and not someone's home. I sure had a red face. We have CiCi's Pizza here which does a lunch pizza buffet including dessert pizza. Maggie, bummer with the glasses. I've used spendy frames over without a problem. I can't wait until the 15th to see if this eye doc can figure out how to fix my blurry vision. I have to keep everything in drawers or boxes or Casper considers it to be available to play with. He's made off with my pin cushion more than once. He likes to pull the pins out. Not good! Chickens are a big thing here. You are allowed to have 6, even in the city. Our homeowner's association has it in the bylaws we can't keep farm animals. Where I live, they'd be in danger of being eaten by the wildlife. Donna, I saw the ring Jack got you for your birthday and it is beautiful. I hope you had a very special day. Looking forward to hearing about your cruise and maybe seeing some pictures. Have a fun day! |
Good Afternoon! The partying neighbor is roaring around on her rider mower as I type. She cranks it up as high as it will go and takes off. Their yard isn't that big so the noise only lasts a very short time but it is annoying. She is such a piece of work! "Meow!" It's been a funny day for weather and the weatherman predicted strong storms. So far it's just been cloudy, windy, and cool. The sun was peeking out briefly after lunch. I've done some sorting and pitching in the magazine pile, put two loads of laundry in the washer and dryer, fixed a casserole for lunch, and now need to take checks to the hospital. Bob is helping clear some trees at the farm this afternoon.
Maggie, weelllllll the story on my cookies is this. Three years ago the local grocery store had a display of Pillsbury pumpkin cookies, bread, and muffins about this same time. I bought the cookie mix and it was really good. Two years ago I looked for the mix and was told they couldn't get it anymore. Same story this year. :( The other grocery store didn't carry it either. Yesterday, I was at my most favorite store, WM, and in the middle of the aisle was a BIG display of Pillsbury pumpkin cookies, bread, and muffins! :cheer: :cp: :D I was a happy camper! To answer your question about freezing the ones I made, they are almost like a soft cake texture. I sent a plate to the office this morning and to the farm this afternoon. ;) I'm making the Pillsbury cookies next weekend! I bet you will find the lens after you get a new one. Susan, I think fall weather has settled in here too. Ready or not, for sure. Will you have a freeze eventually? Supposedly that helps allergies. Have fun teaching this weekend! I've had a couple other friends tell me they have shown up on the wrong day so I don't feel quite so silly. I need to get these checks to the hospital so they can get through the system and in the mail. Enjoy the rest of your day and evening! |

Hey gals we are home, but have a band concert for Thomas to go to in just a bit. I will try and catch up reading. We had a fabulous time except my right leg swelled up something awful, which made for hard walking. I gained an absolute ton of weight because I couldn't go out walking everyday like I wanted as my leg was so bad. It has gone down considerably, but still swollen. I got compression socks when we got off the ship and wore them in the car and in the hotel and that helped a lot. So, tomorrow we go commissary shopping and I get lots of good veg and wholesome foods and back on our WW program. Talk to you tomorrow! Here is a photo from formal night. Faye

I decided to check in here before heading to bed and post a bit. JEAN Maybe Cecil will bring that lens back, but that is a big maybe. I have a little crystal body with silver leg Daddy Long Legs spider. When we lived in a place where we remodeled the bathroom and had a shelf around the room just above the wainscoting I kept little things. My Spidey lived there and one day he came up missing. I looked at Turn and told him in a stern voice to “Bring back Spidey.” Later that evening when I was in the living room he dropped it on my foot. Its legs were all bent but I was able to bend them back and still have it on my BB out in this kitchen. Though I have my doubts that this cat will bring back my lens. DONNA FAYE :welcome: back from your cruise. I am sure you had a wonderful time even though your leg gave you troubles. Great picture of a happy couple. Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up . |
