Steel Magnolias ~ #90

GOOD AFTERNOON IN SEPTEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

It is a lovely day here in this part of the country and I am going to put a nice piece of beef in the crock pot and let it cook for dinner. Not much going on around here to speak of but the usual.

DONNA FAYE That is great that you didn't get any thyroid problems.

SUSAN No I still have a dysfunctional thyroid. The only things that I have had removed from this body of mine are a disk from my back and a gall bladder. I have been on thyroid meds for as long as I can remember ~ in fact I started out taking the real pills made of thyroid way back before they had any synthetic meds. I hope you are taking your thyroid meds all alone and waiting a couple hours before you take any others. They need to be taken alone to do any good.

Good Morning! It's another cool sunny morning in my neighborhood. I wanted to choose appropriate cards for the funeral tomorrow, and made a quick stop at the grocery store on the way home. Today is our 47th anniversary, just another day. Jason turns 41 today, and that doesn't seem possible.

Susan, it is too hot in your neighborhood! :dizzy: I hope it cools down soon. I was surprised at the number of kids who had permission to carry inhalers with them to class. I remember my mom wheezing so sympathize with you. I try very hard to stay away from cameras, but thanks for the compliment.

"Gma," I have to admit I don't have a long pointy nose, but you just can't see the warts. :lol3: I read in the paper where hotels are going to start adding on fees for things like early or late check in/out, Wifi, computers and printers, etc. Pretty soon there won't be a plain simple room with no added charges. Good luck with the socks.

Maggie, thank you for starting the new thread. :cp: I can smell your dinner cooking clear over here! Yum!

I need to round up Bob's dress shirt for tomorrow and decide what I I'm going to wear. Hope you all enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!

gma22 09-04-2014 07:29 AM

Good morning to you all! It seems to be cool in the house this morning but I don't know about outside. I haven't stuck my nose out since Monday.

I am working the heel on T's sock so it is coming right along. The smaller needles did make a big difference on the tightness of the weave for him. I don't know how much of that will get done today and everything seems to ache this morning, elbows, arm muscles, shoulders, hands. Maybe it is supposed to rain or something I don't know.

We are supposed to go out to dinner with the kids either Friday or Saturday. I haven't heard back from her yet. I don't know where we are going either. We are planners, they are seat of the pants people.

I hope today is better than the last few days eating. I have been munching all day and over plan constantly. Don't know why I am hungry as the female thing hasn't popped back up. I just have to work on getting more protein in my diet I guess am already eating more whole grains and veg and such. I guess sometimes you just have a bad week but I hope today turns it around.

Maggie: We had pot roast on Tuesday. I put it in the crockpot with a package of baby carrots, 2 cans whole potatoes and a can of ff beef broth then cook it on low for several hours. I comes out so nice and tender that way. I have a sister who sticks it in a roaster (you know the old style that is dark blue with tiny white dots) no liquid at all and cooks it to death. The darn thing comes out crunchy and her family loves it that way. ugh! You could hammer nails with the thing it is so dry.

Jean: What the heck were you doing up at 1 AM???? I had your anniversary as the 4th. Got to go in and change that. Happy Anniversary!!!!! I wanted to give you some balloons, but my smilies won't load for some reason. Hope you and Bob had a lovely day together. My Jay turns 41 Oct 22. I know seems like yesterday he was this adorable little guy in Oshkosh overalls. Poor guy has to go in and have surgery two days after his birthday.

Well girls, need to balance the checkbook and get started on the day. Cabinets and countertops and appliance cleaning today. :D Faye

Thursday ~ Nice & Sunny

GOOD MORNING IN SEPTEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

I am so jazzed for my BD present of a Golden Fox Fur Vest came yesterday and it is beautiful and will look great with my brown pants and a cream colored blouse. The vest is jacket length. Now it will just have to wait in the closet until it gets cold enough around here to wear It is one of those things I can wear even after I am at goal. :cp: I love looking at the Victorian Trading Co. catalogs for they have some really neat things and are based in the ♥-Land not far from here. In particular there is a neat sun hat I have my eye on. Will got me the vest for my BD which isn’t until October but was afraid maybe if he waited it would no longer be for sale since they rotate things in and out of the catalogs.

I am going to lunch with the museum group today so I will have my drink for my evening meal. That will be the first time I have done that so we shall see how it works out to have it in the evening. I can have a snack of celery and carrot sticks along with a piece of jerky if I feel hungry later in the evening, for I will have the points I can spend.

I am just waiting for some special pens that can be used on cloth and not run or smear to arrive for my doll making. The local shop where we get our paper and such has ordered them for me. I have my tools in the neat holder that will be easy to reach what I want for the items stand up in little compartments all around the top. There are drawers around the bottom also and it is quite trick for it turns like a lazy Susan does.. I may have told you about it before so sorry if this is boring as a repeat.

JEAN :cp: another anniversary. Hope yours was happy and you did what you wanted to dol

DONNA FAYE That is just too funny about that really done roast. I have never had one like that and don't plan on it either. :D Mine came out juicy and delicious as I am sure yours did. :p Different strokes for different folks is how it is though and if a person likes theirs done to a crisp and likes it that way more power to them.
Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

Jean 09-05-2014 01:45 PM

Good Afternoon! It's a cool cloudy day in my corner of the world. I have to make a salad for church tomorrow, and I just feel lazy after being gone yesterday. I want to take it in this afternoon. We left home at 7:30 and I walked back in about 11:30 pm last night. Yesterday, at the cemetery, there were fire trucks and ambulances from surrounding small towns. After the minister finished her prayers, the emergency radio dispatcher called Danny's name three times, then thanked him for his service and said they would carry on. It was broadcast live in all the counties; there wasn't a dry eye there. The church was full as I knew it would be. The football game was windy and cold! I should have taken jeans, socks and shoes, along with a heavier jacket. Next time I will go prepared! Ian made three touchdowns and the final score was 48 - 8. There is another kid about half Ian's size who zips in and out before the opponents know what happened, he is fun to watch. Bob and Jason are on their way to MT today, and I have a list of things I wanted to get done while Bob is gone. He'll be home Monday night.

"Gma," it is chilly in the house this morning and I finally dug out a sweater. I am not ready for colder weather! I hope the achy feeling is gone today. I know what you mean about wanting to eat everything that is loose. You can get your control back! I pulled my usual mo and fell asleep in the recliner then wasn't tired when it was time to go to bed. Usually a 10-15 minute catnap works but Bob went back to the office and I slept for over an hour. I should know better than to get in the recliner!

Maggie, I know you will enjoy wearing your new vest, but I hope it will be awhile before it's cold enough. ;) We stopped for a quick hamburger on our way home from the funeral visitation; not exactly my idea of an anniversary dinner but it was late for us to be eating as it was. My mom always fixed roasts on top of the stove in a heavy pan, so that's how I usually make them too.

I need to make the salad and pick up the kitchen. Hope you all enjoy a nice day!

gma22 09-06-2014 09:45 AM

Good morning to you all. Hot, hot, hot today again though it is nice and sunny. We are going to run a couple errands to the UPS store to drop off the Amazon return then run by Krogers and pick up a couple things then come home and shampoo the carseat and the floor mats and rugs for the trip. Last year when I was so sick and we were driving, when I went to get out at the rest stop, I wet all over the car seat. It doesn't smell or anything, but I have been working out the stain for a year because the seats are a very light tan corduroy and leather. So far, I haven't been really successful, but am going to try and put a stain remover on it and try again.

Jack is playing bridge online. He is pretty proficient at it so when we get back I am sure I will get great tutelage from him so we can get into games somewhere.

We had a nice dinner with the kids at Red Robin last night but my food was awful for the first time ever. I got a chicken sandwich which was overcooked and horribly dry, but I didn't want to wait half an hour to get another sandwich of some kind. I should have gone with the BLTA or the fish like I usually do. Thomas is hilarious. While his parents and the two of us were talking he had his phone in his lap texting away at people. I ask him if it was girls, and those dimples came out and he said, "Yes." I said so you haven't had trouble making girlfriends at the new school? (he knew no one at his new high school when he started) He told me no and I said, "Atta boy, it is those dimples. Girls love dimples."

Maggie: Hope Will is coming right along in his health and feeling well. The chemo will sap his strength so be prepared. Nothing he can do about it but ride it out. I love the hats I bought for vacation, but I am going to tell my gal to cut my hair very short this time as it is looking like the Caribbean is going to be super hot and humid this year and I have to wear hats to keep from sunburning so I sweat.

Jean: What a lovely tribute for your friend. I tend to take naps and then feel worse than if I haven't for at least an hour then find I am a bit more refreshed. I can't take power naps though. Jack is a 10 minute nap guy and feels great, me, I am huge grouch if I haven't had a long nap if I need one.

Everyone have a great day. I have to finish dressing and we are out of here. Faye

Jean 09-06-2014 12:25 PM

Good Morning! It's a bright, sunny, cool morning in my neighborhood. It's quiet; no one is mowing this morning. I need to write notes in a couple in cards. The doctor Jason had when he was in his brace died at age 93. Jason went to his visitation and explained his connection to the doctor to his wife, plus the fact that Amanda is/was their best friends' granddaughter. It was in Sioux City the same night we all went to Danny's. The doctor and his wife have 12 children; we always thought his bedside manner was gruff but guess it scared us into following his orders. I need a couple things from the grocery store and now wish I would have gone yesterday.

"Gma," wish I could share some cool weather with you! It was 44 degrees when I came downstairs this morning and the house was chilly. I turned the furnace on! :D Sorry your chicken was too well done last night. Ian gets a silly grin when we ask about girls. He doesn't have a phone yet but not because he hasn't been teasing for one.

I need to get my cards done and unload the dishwasher. Enjoy your day and do something fun!

Sunny not as Hot Saturday

GOOD AFTERNOON IN SEPTEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

AW yesterday I had my mammogram and don’t expect anything to come of it but they say we gals need them so I go and get it done. Glad to have that over with for another year. I am not fond of having my boobs squeezed as flat as that machine can get them but the gal that did it is good and knows her stuff.

Will starts his chemo on the 9th and will be in the 3 month group instead of the 6 month group. He will get the treatment every other week and have his last one before Thanksgiving. That is if his blood count stays up to 10. They won’t give the treatment if the blood count isn’t up so we shall see.

While Will was in the market last evening I was sitting in the Jeep watching the night ski. There was a spotty cloud cover of dark clouds and the moon was playing hide and seek behind them and they passed in front of it. It was so neat for some of the clouds were thin and lacy looking and making the moon have a veil. Then the clouds would pass by slowly and the full moon would shine down. I wonder how many folks were watching the night sky along with me.

DONNA FAYE They have meds to give the ones that have a chemo treatment that calms the bad effects some folks experience. They already have given Will 3 different things to do just that. Most of what goes around are scare stories and myths about chemo treatments. There are lots of folks who go to work the next day after their treatment so it doesn’t cause everyone the same set back as one would think. Hopefully Will will be one of the ones like that. He isn’t wimpy and has a high threshold for pain. We will just have to wait and see and hope for the best.

JEAN I hope your trip to the market is a good one. I picked up some more flavorings for my drink today so I now have a nice variety. I also got 3 bags of different flavored jerky ~ regular, sweet-hot and peppered. I have it all in little bags of one ounce for 2P+ each so when I want some it is already weighted out and I am not tempted to eat out of the large bag for I can limit myself to one little bag. :cp: I need a snack around 3 o'clock and some iced green-mint tea and jerky are good to have.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up
.

Jean 09-07-2014 10:40 AM

Good Morning! It's another sunny cool morning in my neighborhood. Nothing too exciting going on today, just more sorting through "stuff" and cleaning out a kitchen junk drawer for starters. I'm sure I can find some laundry to do, or at least some ironing.

Maggie, I'm always relieved when the mammogram squish is done. :cp: I took hormones for several years and at the time research was leaning towards the greater chance of breast cancer. I'm not sure what the current thinking on that might be. It sounds like you are all set for drink flavors and chewy snacks. Bob likes jerky but I never think to buy it unless he happens to be with me.

Hope you all are doing something fun and enjoy a super Sunday today! :D

gma22 09-07-2014 03:32 PM

Afternoon gals. It was cool this morning so Jack got out and shampooed inside the car. My thought about the seat didn't work, but it is no worse off so has to be what it is. It is clean except for a few wipe downs, which I will do this next weekend then get the outside washed and we are good to go.

We only have a week and a half until we leave for Florida and 2 weeks from today is sail away day. We are all packed, Jack did a dry run on the bags to make sure everything fits and it all goes in fine so we are good to go when it is time.

I did laundry and will start dinner in an hour or so. I am making chicken fried steak tonight. I make it the slim way without oil and such. I use lowfat milk and egg beaters for batter and pam instead of oil to fry them in. I have veggies and jack mashed potatoes and veg.

This week is going to drag by I imagine. I have my hair apt on Friday and we need to get stuff done at the bank and post office on Friday and Saturday but the week is pretty free of stuff to do except keep up the house as usual.

Maggie: I never became a fan of jerky. I don't know why. My niece loves the stuff and takes it with her everywhere. Hope your liquid mornings are dong you well. I just hope I can get in enough walking to keep me from gaining on vacation.

Jean: My mammogram is in November and I get a sonogram to go with it on a table made for a size 2 I think! Thomas got a phone a year or so ago but he has limitations regarding school of course. He is such a computer electronics geek though. I am glad he has made friends at his new school so quickly girls or boys. He told his granddad and I he has 6 months and will have completed everything to become an Eagle scout so that is exciting.

Everyone enjoy the rest of your day. My female stuff started back in yesterday so guess I won't dodge it for vacation because it can last on and off for weeks then go away for 6 weeks and then back and forth. Faye

Sunny not as Hot Sunday

GOOD AFTERNOON IN SEPTEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

Today has been a lovely day in the 80˚s and that definitely is nice. We had pot-luck for lunch after church services and I ate light so hopefully it didn’t affect me too much. My weigh day is tomorrow so we shall see how my program has been doing or if I need to tighten up some. I feel I do best if I have my drink for the first meal instead of the last.

Not much happening around here today to speak of.

DONNA FAYE Watch what you eat while on the cruise and with all that walking you should do fine. Be happy with a "maintain" and if you gain don't fret. Just get back on your program when you get back home. That is my 2 cents worth of advice to you. :D

JEAN I remember having my first piece of jerky when my mother made it when I was a kid. We could have a piece and some grapes or orange sections as a snack after school. Other days it may be peanut butter in celery sticks ~ guess which was our favorite. :p

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up
.

Jean 09-08-2014 12:55 PM

Good Morning! It's pouring rain big time, and has been for over an hour. There were sprinkles after I finished at church so stopped by the grocery store. I wasn't in there very long but got soaked clear through my nylon jacket and clothes coming out. I bypassed the hospital in favor of coming home for dry clothes. Thunder is rumbling through but I haven't seen any lightning. I'll go back and get the gift shop money when the rain lets up. Kolby is supposed to have a soccer game tonight but Beth thought it would be doubtful with all the rain. Of course, the sun could come out and it could be nice by game time. Bob is due home early this evening.

"Gma," in Iowa more and more small schools are consolidating together, or closing all together. Kids don't very often get to stay in a neighborhood school all the way through. Sad, I think. I admire kids, like Thomas, who adapt to new situations with ease. :cheer: He is young to earn his Eagle award, isn't he? I'm just going by the boys in our church who have been juniors and seniors.

Maggie, I'm betting the scale will shine for you today. :) I still like peanut butter and celery, or cheese and celery, anything crunchy.

I have laundry to sort so had better get going on that. Hope you all enjoy a marvelous Monday!

gma22 09-08-2014 02:26 PM

Good afternoon gals. It was cool this morning, but it is 85 at the moment. Looks like upper 70's by this time next week though, which will be a nice change. Hopefully no rain for vaca though.

My niece is going to have to have gall bladder surgery and she is only in her 30's. She isn't overweight and never has been either. She ask me all about it as she is pretty nervous. Her boys are Jackson's age and she teaches school so I imagine she is concerned about that. I went through the procedure with her and told her it is a snap and recoup time isn't bad. It was the one surgery I have had that only had little cuts and the scars are almost all gone.

This darn female stuff is going at it again and so I am shaky today. I checked my blood sugar just to make sure and it is fine. I figured it would be as I haven't had any problems at all since I got off the insulin. No low and no high blood sugars so the shakiness is the female thing. Ahh well it is what it is as I always say. I can deal with it.

Maggie: Tx for saying that. The ship is huge and I will get in a lot of walking, but I am planning on getting up every morning and getting cleaned up for the day and getting out and walking the walking track they have on the ship. It will be lovely to walk in the sunshine and on something even unlike walking in my neighborhood. I can also sit if I need to then get up and walk more if my knee gives me fits. Hopefully I can get enough in between all of that and the long walks when we get in port to keep the weight ok. It isn't like I am going to gain 10 lbs or something as I have to eat well because of the diabetes.

Jean: Everything Thomas does seems to be doing it younger than other kids. He really loves scouting though so it doesn't surprise me. He told us he missed out on getting into cross country, but he is going to run spring track the 2 mile. I guess being a freshman it is hard to get into cross country in time to run, sign up and such. He runs all the time and bikes miles and miles too so should be no problem to run 2 miles. One of his scouting thing was swimming in this river for one mile. He was faster than anyone I guess, but then he is a little fish. He learned to swim as a toddler pretty much and has never been afraid of the water.

Well I need to go. I want to wash up my lunch dish and get a shower. I have been lounging around all morning doing nothing. Have a good start to your week. Countdown has begun for us! Faye

gma22 09-09-2014 08:49 AM

Good morning ladies. Nice and cool this morning. Not even having to run the ac units this morning.

I ordered the new JD Robb book several months ago and it was delivered to my IPad this morning. I am desperately trying to keep my fingers off it so I can read it during vacation! Hopefully I can just read the other bazillion books I have in my Ipad/kindle program. I probably have 400 books in it.

We are having sloppy joes tonight. I wanted something quick and easy tonight. I use Manwich, but my homemade ones are pretty much the same and have the same pts value with a bun or open faced, which is less pts.

Well they finally found Holly Bobo's body. This was a horrible thing back in 2011. The guy arrested a few months ago denies it, but they found her body yesterday. Her parents have gone through **** hoping she was a live, but knowing she wasn't. She was last seen at her home with a guy in hunting type clothing walking around the corner of their house and she was never seen again. It will be interesting to see if they can find any dna evidence to convict somebody of this.

My nephew's family is having a time of it. His wife was in the hospital last weekend with chest pains and last night they rushed their 15 yr old son to the hospital with a possible burst appendix. He is having surgery this morning.

I guess I should go. I have a load of laundry in the washer about ready to go into the dryer and get some chores done. Have a good day. Faye

Tuesday & a Nice Chance of Rain Day

GOOD AFTERNOON IN SEPTEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

Will is at the hospitals cancer center building getting his first chemo treatment. We are so glad he is in the 3 month group for the study instead of the 6 month group. We won’t know how the chemo will affect him until this evening. They issued him 3 different kinds of pills to counteract any of the lousy upset feelings that folks used to get from the treatments. He will find out today when he is supposed to take the meds. Those 6 treatments in 3 months of chemo should kill off any cells wanting to turn into cancer they think and this is what the study is all about. That old 6 months of treatment was just a guess and cancer docs around the world are thinking that this study will help to find out if the 3 months of treatment will do the job.

I have things to do in the meantime that will keep me busy. I do want to get cracking and figure out which doll I want to make first and get the pattern copied. But . . . I still have glass to deal with and get it out of this room. I should work on that today. I have about 20 sheets each a foot square of various colors and they need to have cardboard in between each piece and put in boxes. I also have some half and quarter sheets which are big enough to cut something out of to deal with also. The glass is all in nice holders on a board set on bricks against one wall. I just need to pack up the glass and dismantle the holders. I have been dreading the job and putting it off and today would be a good day to get started on it.

DONNA FAYE That was nice of you to calm your nieces fears about her upcoming surgery. I had mine removed so many years ago when they slit me open down the front so I have a scar in the front and one in the back ~ looks like I was slit with a sword and it went clear through. Medical science has had leaps since then in so many ways.

Howdy there JEAN and SUSAN hope your day is going well with you,

PS: I picked up Will and he feels great. No side effects from the chemo treatment. He is just to follow their instructions and will have another treatment in two weeks.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up
.

Jean 09-09-2014 02:48 PM

Good Afternoon! We got up to fog this morning, which has turned into a cloudy, warmer day. Looks like our strange weather continues. It's supposed to be cooler towards the end of the week. The paper quoted a forecast for an early snow. After lunch I need to go to the hospital and write a couple checks for merchandise being checked in yesterday when I picked up the money. I have the tv on; wish I could have a nickel for every political ad that's been on this morning. I wish they would quit bad mouthing the opponent and tell me what they want to do to fix the problem. It will get worse before it gets better.

"Gma," I hope that Thomas didn't catch anything when swimming in the river. What Kolby had was caused by a parasite found in underworld countries, dirty water, etc., my first thought was he swallowed lake water. :( I bet he will make the cross county team next year. All of your iPad books should keep you busy! I hope your niece gets along ok; I think the anticipation is sometimes worse than the event. Also will keep your nephew's family in my prayers.

Maggie, I was surprised when you said Will was having his chemo treatment, but guess today is the 9th. :o Did he drive himself? Bob's secretary always had someone take her and then she would call when she was finished. Here's good vibes that all goes well and the three months fly by.

I had lunch in the oven to surprise Bob this noon. :cp: It just feels like a casserole kind of day! Hope you all enjoy a terrific Tuesday today!

Jean 09-10-2014 08:10 AM

Good Morning! It's still dark and dreary this morning. We've had some more rain during the night, which we don't need right now. My plan for the day is lunch bunch and laundry. I washed a load of clothes late yesterday afternoon and then forgot to put them in the dryer. :dizzy: It's a good thing I didn't need any of it first thing this morning.

Not much newsy going on my corner of the world right now. I like it like that after last week when multiple things happen in one day. It's a wonderful Wednesday, and I hope you all have a great day!

QuilterInVA 09-10-2014 09:38 AM

Good morning, ladies! 72 degrees and more rain on tap.

We had 10.5 inches of rain on Monday. There is a lot of flooding and schools were sent home early because of the flooded roads. Hopefully the forecast calls for sunshine tomorrow so maybe we can begin to dry out.

Faye, more young people, even in their teens, are having gallbladder surgery. It's because of their fast food diet. I hope everything goes well for your niece.

Jean, sounds like you are awash in rain, too. The farmers are going to be hurting that depend on soy, peanuts, and cotton if it doesn't let up soon. You are such a good gramdma to go to the kids sporting events.

Maggie, I hope Will continues to feel good during his chemo. Has the drink helped your weight loss?

Have a wonderful day - I have to get to the Y.

gma22 09-10-2014 10:47 AM

Good morning to you all. Had a rough night with the female stuff so when advil didn't work I took a pain pill. So, now I have to deal with dopey feelings until it wears off.

I am almost to the toe with Thomas's sock, but haven't been working on it a lot the last couple days. I have plenty of time so don't feel rushed about it and can work on it in the car when we leave and on vacation too during down time.

I have a hair appointment on Friday and I am hoping I can convince her to cut it really short. It is going to be really humid in the tropics this year and I have to wear a hat so I am going to sweat.

When I get done here I have to call the surgeon's office and set up the consult apt right after I get back so I can set up the surgery. It is always something I guess. She finally got my referral done so I can do that.

Jean: I wasn't too keen on the swim, but it was part of his scout thingy. It was last spring though so hopefully nothing came of it. He had to do some kind of pool swim too I guess. Our washer is so noisy you can hardly forget it unless you leave the house while it is going and I don't usually do that. I would imagine with it being in the basement it would be easy to forget. Have fun with your lunch bunch.

Susan: My goodness, was it a tropical storm that moved up the coast and dumped all that rain on you? We have been watching for storm stuff. It is supposed to rain in the Caribbean all next week, but I sure hope it clears out for vacation. We are going with our friends to a beach resort and it kind of ruins it if you are sitting in the pouring rain.

Everyone have a great middle of the week. Faye

Maggie 09-10-2014 04:12 PM

Wonderful Wednesday

GOOD AFTERNOON IN SEPTEMBER MAGNOLIAS ☺♫

I finally bought the spam blocker for my e-mail Incredi-mail program. I got tired of deleting all those things saying stupid stuff like drinking water is bad for you, drinking milk is worse for you than smooking, don’t eat fruit for it is bad for you, don’t eat vegetables for it is bad for you, you can forever get rid of herpes, you can cure Alzheimer’s and so on and not just one of each would arrive but 5 or more.

Got my breast exam results and all is well in that department. I didn’t expect anything different and am thankful all is well.

I am so pleased that Will hasn’t had any bad feelings from his first bout with chemo. There are sure some horror stories about it that get passed around. He can’t eat, drink or touch anything cold for a couple days but he can deal with that for he can still have his coffee. He has one session down and just 5 more to go.

We got a gulley washer bout of rain last evening that came down fast and furious but was quickly over with. I don’t know how much rain we did get but lots at once knocks limbs off trees in the park. There were teens out gathering up the limbs and putting them in piles to be hauled off. Nice job for them.

DONNA FAYE I certainly hope you aren't feeling lousy during your vacation.

JEAN Did your have fun with your lunch bunch? I drove the Jeep home and picked him up yesterday but sine he doesn't have the side effects from the treatment he plans on driving himself on the 23rd for his 2nd treatment. If we need anything we can go get it after he is back home in the afternoon.

SUSAN The drink is a great help with my weight loss program. I make a different flavor each day for my noon meal replacement. I hope you had a good session at the Y today.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up

Good morning ladies. It is coming down hard and fast and thundering up a bundle this morning. Took Jack quite a bit longer to get to work than it usually does because it was raining so hard you couldn't see. I hope it moves through as I have a hair appointment tomorrow and don't want to deal with heavy rain.

You know, I remember where I was with three things, the day Kennedy was shot, I remember coming home from school and standing in my grandma's living room and my mom and grandma standing in front of grandpa's color tv crying. I remember the day Elvis died. We lived in El Paso and I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter and we had a little portable tv in the living room and they broke into programing as I was walking past it (it was my future sil's 10th birthday that day) and finally the day the twin towers were struck. I was sitting at my desk and a lady delivered a candy basket for one of our estimator's birthdays. She told me and because I was a receptionist could not get up and go see the tv so didn't know how serious it was until much later. Are we safer? Not a chance and now that dope in the white house says these killers ISIS aren't Islamic. A man in uniform can't take his daughter into her school because he might offend some of the students. Our freedoms are slowly draining away and our threat level is the highest it has ever been. God has been ripped out of schools, courtrooms and songs. Our kids can't say the pledge or pray over their food. They have to eat what the first lady says they can eat even though she isn't a nutritionist and doesn't know what she is talking about. A man can't hang the flag outside his house, but they can burn it in the streets. The memorial of this day is not just about the costly lost of life, but the loss of our freedom and safety as well.

Maggie: Glad Will came out of his chemo session doing ok. My great nephew came out of his surgery ok too, thank you Jesus.

You all have a wonderful day today. Faye

Jean 09-11-2014 01:33 PM

Good Afternoon! It's a "cold" day in my corner of the world, the wind is blowing and cloudy with more rain predicted. We are supposed to get Maddy and Kolby from the sitter and to the soccer fields later this afternoon. If we're going to get rained out, I hope it happens before we leave home. I'm taking my winter jacket! Other than that, I've done a load of laundry and chased fur bunnies with the vacuum. Bob should be home for lunch soon, and it's leftovers today.

Susan, it sure doesn't seem fair that your area gets so much rain while there are places that don't even have enough water to drink. Crazy! I saw where the northeastern states are supposed to get snow by the end of the month. The weatherman just said Rapid City could get some today. That is way too early!!!

"Gma," I hope you are feeling better today, and it didn't take too long to get over the dopey feeling. I was sitting in a college class when the news about Kennedy was announced. For 911 I was sitting in another classroom and we had the tv on, which was very unusual. I don't remember about Elvis.

Maggie, I have a junk folder that takes all of the emails that "unknowns" send. It's also taken a few I did want, so I skim through before I delete them. Glad to hear that the mammogram results were good and that Will did ok with his first treatment. I wonder what effect the cold food or drink would have. I've never heard of that before.

Bob is home so it's lunch time! Hope you all enjoy a terrific Thursday today!

gma22 09-12-2014 09:34 AM

Good morning gals. Quick post as I have to leave in just a bit to go and get my hair cut and colored. It is gloomy and supposed to rain again today. The area my dd lives in flooded yesterday badly but I never heard from her if her particular area flooded. We got about 7 inches of rain in a hour. Not as much as Susan, but we have a lot of low lying areas and a terrible sewer system IMO.

Jack has two more days of work after today and of course he is going nuts. He said yesterday went pretty fast so hopefully today will go fast for him too. Not a lot of work gets done on paydays though. They allow everyone longer lunches.

I got my referral yesterday in the mail so all set to go with that. She hasn't called me back about the apt so I am giving her until Monday then I will call her back and firm it up. She said their computers were down so she couldn't check, but that was two days ago.

Other than getting everything done for the trip not much going on here. We have to go out to the base to the bank tomorrow and get a couple things at the commissary we want to take with us to snack on and some more soda, get the car cleaned this weekend and tomorrow Jack is getting a haircut. We are all packed except for last minute stuff and so he will load the car on Wednesday after I get back from getting my nails done. He wants to do it before it gets dark and we don't want people to see us loading up the car so we do it with the garage door closed so there isn't a huge amount of light once it gets dark.

Jean: I heard on the radio this morning that the mountains have about a foot of snow out west and it was 17 degrees at Yellowstone this morning. I just worry about rain as we are going to drive in rain clear through next Saturday so I hope it isn't going to rain our whole cruise. We shall see I guess. If it rains the day we go to the resort we are out the big bucks because they don't refund your money for the day passes. :(

Everyone have a grand weekend. We are just counting the days. Faye

Jean 09-12-2014 01:17 PM

Good Morning! It was a chilly 48 degrees and raining early this morning. :brr: The rain has stopped and the sun is trying to peak through the clouds. We are thinking of going to a fair this afternoon; I'm not too hep on walking through the mud if they got rain too. It's billed as the largest county fair in the U. S., and it's fun to walk through all the displays. Bob usually checks out the farm machinery. I went to have my nails done and got in the middle of a wedding party having pedicures and manicures. It was fun to listen to the young ladies talk back and forth. I noticed all had long, straight blonde hair.

"Gma," I sure hope your daughter doesn't have any flood damage. I am ready for some sunshine and warmer temperatures! I just hate the thought of cold weather coming so early. My furnace is running today. I'm sure it must be hard for Jack to concentrate on work when you are so close to vacation. Rapid City, SD, got 6" of snow yesterday, and Bob was glad to be home!

Bob is home for lunch so better get the soup on! Enjoy the rest of a fantastic Friday!

gma22 09-13-2014 05:58 AM

Good morning ladies. I crashed around 8 PM last night and slept through the night, which is unusual for me. I usually have to get up once to go to the bathroom. I am a little dopey this morning, but am slowly waking up. Our neighbors pipes "tick" when they shower and they sound like they are in our living room and he works on the weekends I guess because at 4:30 you could hear the tick, tick, tick sound.

Today is a trip to the bank to get cash for vacation and then to the commissary, which is close to get a few snacks to take with us and a couple things to round out meals and then back home and clean the inside of the car. I did laundry yesterday so am caught up on it for about 2 seconds.

Jean: :brr: That is pretty cold even for your area this early. It was cool here yesterday all day in the upper 60's but really windy. It was dark and cloudy all day, but we never did get any rain. Don't know what today will bring. I downloaded a hurricane radar map on my Ipad so I could watch weather. There is a tropical storm in the tropics right now, but hopefully it will be gone by the time we wander in there. They are having a huge amount of rain though. I heard this year was supposed to be an awful cold and snowy winter.

You gals have a nice Saturday. I think I will sit and knit for a bit before I get a shower and get dressed. Faye

Jean 09-13-2014 10:40 AM

Good Morning! The sun is shining and it's 36 degrees outside! At least the sun makes it look warmer, yesterday was so gloomy. Bob just left for the lake to meet Jason in order to winterize the cabin, take the dock out, and bring the boat home. It doesn't seem like we really had a summer. Soccer games are finished next week; Zowie decided to try volleyball so perhaps we will be able to go to some of those games. Football games go into October. I need to do some laundry, clear off the never ending island clutter, and vacuum the fur bunnies. This afternoon I have a surprise 70th birthday party for one of my lunch bunch friends. My monthly coffee date friend has been diagnosed with breast cancer and goes for a consultation Monday. Cancer seems to be rampant in our area. Bad stuff and so scary!

"Gma," I hope you are no longer feeling dopey! :lol3: For some reason that just tickled me this morning. I'm thinking positive about your vacation weather! If there is a hurricane, will the ship ride it out or do they pull into a port and park it? I can't imagine what that would be like. :(

Hope to see Maggie and Susan today. ;) Enjoy a super Saturday!

gma22 09-14-2014 08:33 AM

Good morning everyone. It is chilly here in the upper 50's this morning. I am going out in about 10 minutes to clean the inside of the car except for vacuuming, which we will do on Wednesday after we get it washed.

I am on the toe decreases for Thomas's first sock so then I will have Jack put it on and pray it isn't too big. It looks huge compared to store bought socks, but store bought have elastic in the thread so they can make them for a wide range of sizes and these are made to fit the foot. Jack wears a 10 1/2 so they should be a bit long for him as I am making king kong sized 12 socks. The kid is 14 and wears an 11 1/2 shoe. He had on a pair of driving moccasins the night we went out to dinner and compared to the rest of him they looked like he was playing in his uncle's shoes.

Got my bill from the hospital yesterday. We owe them $74 of the $31,000 they billed for the ER and hospital stay. They charged $12,000 for the ER alone and the only thing they did was give me several shots and put an NG tube in. The meds are billed separately so I don't know how they could have possibly done $12,000 worth of work. The ER dr only came in twice and the rest was nurses. No wonder the healthcare is such a mess.

We went out to the bank yesterday, which is just across the street from the main gate of the base. We got the cash we wanted and came out to go onto the base and the main gate is closed on the weekends. Now how dumb is that? So we had to drive out and around to get to the back gate, which is about 5 miles out of the way. Anyway, I marked another thing off my shrinking list of to dos before leaving. We then went to the commissary and it was nuts, nuts, nuts. They were having a "case" sale and the place was packed at 9:30 in the morning and they open at 9. Luckily, we only had a few things so used the self checkout. Let me tell you, the commissary sure does have a better system with the self check out. You scan in your ID card and then start checking out and they have someone manning the checkouts who doesn't wander off or stand there yakking with someone. Also the checkouts themselves work better. We had more than 15 items so we split them into two and I checked out one and Jack the other so there was no cheating.

Jean: Wow seems like just yesterday you were opening up the cabin. The cold weather sure did sweep in fast for sure. I saw pics on my FB from friends up in Indiana going to the Notre Dame game and they were bundled all up. I think they played in Lafayette instead of South Bend but it is only a bit farther south. It is still showing rain, rain, rain so I imagine we will get rain on sail away day so no standing and watching the ship pull out waving to the people like we usually do. Jack said that hurricanes are pretty predictable as far as direction goes so the ship knows ahead of time and reroutes around the storm. They bypass any ports and stay out at sea if the hurricane is coming across any of the ports of call. In that case, they do refund money for excursions, rain no, hurricanes where they can't pull in, yes.

Well gals, I need to get going. You all have a nice Sunday. Faye

Jean 09-14-2014 04:17 PM

Good Afternoon! The sun is shining, it's breezy and cool in my neighborhood this afternoon. It really seems like fall; someone has their fireplace going and it smells so good outside. Went to church and as we were leaving first service the band comes barging in. We have a new (?) drummer who looks like a He**s Angel in jeans, a black t-shirt with some sort of picture on the front, boots, and slicked back hair. What a motley looking crew they are imo. I checked and the pile of cigarette butts are still outside one of the never used doors. We posted "no smoking" signs a month ago but I don't know if anyone picked up her (the fiddle player) pile from before. I will pick them up tomorrow and will check next week to see if there are more. If so I will take some sort of action! I have no energy to do much of anything this afternoon. The kitchen is picked up and counters cleared off. I told Bob it is closed until tomorrow. ;)

"Gma," I had to  at King Kong socks. At the birthday party yesterday, our table was discussing PET scans; one gal's husband just died from cancer in several places, another one's husband is being treated right now, and the third gal has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. All are on Medicare which will only pay for one scan a year. Years ago they wouldn't pay at all, for my dad, and they were $2500. Now they range from $8000-$10,000 according to the one gal. The healthcare, or lack of, is scary! Around here it seems to be not if one gets cancer, when it will happen. :(

I guess I will finish reading the paper before I try to find something on tv. It sounds like the new programs start this week. I know Dancing with the Stars is on tomorrow night and I have card club. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day and evening.

gma22 09-15-2014 07:59 AM

Good morning gals. It is in the upper 60's this morning so the temps are back to climbing. Hopefully we will have nice weather to travel on Thursday.

We just cut the last paper loop from out vacation chain. We always leave the last loop on the end of the curtain rod then add the extra links of construction paper loops for the next trip. Next trip is 18 months away though so we won't make a chain until we are down to 12 months then we make 51 one loops and add to the one link. Jack is a big kid and enjoys making them and taking them off.

Finish Thomas's first sock so Jack will try it on when he gets home after dinner. I hope it fits properly because I don't want to rip it out completely again. My only concern is the cuff around the ankle gapping. I am working to finish the scarf for my hair stylist to go with her mittens and hat I made in the spring. I am also taking my tunic sweater I started for myself. I am not going to take Thomas's other sock since it is on dpn's. It is too easy for the knitting to come off the needles since they are open at both ends. I have 2 1/2 months to make the other one so it is no problem to get it done and get them washed and blocked.

I have a terrible stiff neck. I slept really soundly last night and must have slept on it wrong. I can barely turn my head to the right and it is making my shoulders sore. Guess I will get out the icy hot and put some on my neck.

Jean: Tacky, tacky to smoke outside and church and just dump your butts. Why doesn't the minister say something about a decent dress code for the band. I mean for heaven's sake they can at least wear decent clothing instead of stuff that looks like it belongs at a bar band. I wouldn't go to services with a band. I don't think it is very conducive to worship. I imagine it is a way to try to get the young into church, but how much worship do they really get?

Everyone have a great start to your week. Jack has two work days then he is on vacation. Faye

QuilterInVA 09-15-2014 09:00 AM

Good morning, ladies! A cool 64 degrees heading for 80 today. The sun is out for a change.

Glory and I went to tea on Saturday. I take rice crackers for them to put the sandwich fillings on and Nora makes me meringues with fruit and whipped cream for my dessert. I'm not missing stuff with fluten at all.

Tomorrow Glory and I are going to visit our friend who has had all the surgeries. She is still recovering from the last one so we will take lunch and have a sew day with her.

Faye, I know you are excited to go. I used to make chains of paper clips for each pound I wanted to lose. It was fun watching the chain get shorter and shorter.

Jean, I'm from the old school when it comes to church and that's one thing you can count on in the Catholic church, Mass is always the same. We do have one at 5:30 pm on Sunday for the "young" people that has a band. We have Waters Edge church(es) here. It started meeting at the Y I go to and finally they raised enough to build a church. They outgrew it in less than a year and now they have 4 buildings around town. I went there once when a friend's granddaughter was being baptised (and left as soon as that was over). The noise is unbelievable. Rock bands play and it is so loud they actually have baskets of earplugs in the lobby for those who need them. They have a minister who runs back and forth across the stage shouting his message while the choir sings. There are huge tvs so everyone can see. The service is broadcast to the outlying locations where it is viewed on tv - nothing live there. They don't take up a collection, but have big jars in the lobby that people put their money in. It's more like a circus. But it is crowded and I guess its some form of worship. Who knows what it will be like in the next century.

Maggie, I hope things are good with you and Will.

Have a wonderful day!

Jean 09-15-2014 02:33 PM

Good Afternoon! We had some rain early this morning. I took my umbrella into the church and the sun was shining when I came out two hours later. Now we are back to clouds and gloom. My church computer locked (?) this morning but the secretary was able to salvage what I had done and get me going again. She is going to be gone for two weeks so I'm hoping the computer behaves itself. Gift shop total was better for this week which is good. We are donating $5000 to the Auxiliary to pass on to the hospital "wish list." I need to make the deposit and drop off checks at the hospital, then do some more laundry. I have card club tonight. Also just learned my bell ringer friend who has colon cancer needed more surgery and not doing very well. I am bummed since her attitude was so positive.

"Gma," I hope your stiff neck is better this afternoon. :crossed: Our whole band looks like they just rolled out of bed; all wear baggy, wrinkled blue jeans, t-shirts, plaid flannel shirts, or sweatshirts. From the looks of their hair, I doubt some even comb it before coming to church. In our opinion they sound like they belong in a bar, and that's not because we hang out in bars! I know I am old fashioned, but it's a good thing we have a choice in services to attend.

Susan, how nice of you and Glory to take lunch and visit your friend. I'm sure she is looking forward to your visit. The church Beth joined is building a huge new auditorium. There is a stage, for the band, but whoever is preaching sits on a stool with his book and paperwork sitting on a table beside him. There's no choir nor a cross or anything to make one think they are in a church. They do pass the plate first thing in the service, but the leader says that if you are a visitor then you are considered a guest of the congregation and not obligated to contribute. I find that sort of strange. Anyhow, I never feel like I've been to church afterwards. Most everyone we've seen there is much "younger" than we are. :twirly:

I need to head to the bank and back to the hospital. Enjoy the rest of a marvelous Monday!
