Afternoon all. Busy morning – the new admin started today.

Let’s see, on Sunday after lazing around most of the morning, my friend and her sister decided they’d drive me all the way home instead of just dropping me at the train. They didn’t have any other plans and there’s a grocery store by me that they like.

But before that, I dug out a clump of their hosta that D said she didn't like. It’s a variety I don’t have, so I decided to take some to plant in our yard. At least I won’t have all the same kind now, lol.

We ate lunch at the local taqueria near my house, then went back to the house. They checked out the scooter, and our new garage wall track & hooks – they’re doing a garage cleanup/reorg of their own. In exchange for their hosta, I dug up a clump of my very common hosta to give to them. They want something smaller in the spot from which I dug out their hosta. I can’t guarantee that my hosta will be successful for that spot – it's so large it looks like it’s on steroids. I dunno how it grows like that!!

After they left to go off to the grocery, I took a couple Excedrin Migraine, since I had the start of a funky TOM headache. After a bit of rest and quiet, I took doggy for his walk.

It was very windy and warm and overcast at times, but our area didn’t get the storms that were forecast. I used that forecast as an excuse not to plant the hosta or the flat of impatiens I still have sitting by the patio. Instead I turned on the AC and read my book and watched a bit of telly.

That’s about it for me. I’ll catch up on personals tomorrow. Everyone have a good day.

Hi Everyone. It was a busy weekend for us. I still have my kitchen to clean thourghly. I gave it a "lick and a prayer" on Saturday but not my usually cleaning. I will get it tomorrow or Wednesday.

I cleaned up both of our cars yesterday. It felt so nice to get into clean cars this morning.

We took DH's dad to dinner last night for Father's Day.

Monday's are always busy at work and today held true. I came home and worked from 7-9:15 p.m. We have a department meeting on Thursday and I am the one who owns the PowerPoint and getting the contect--so there is that as well as calendars and also our fiscal ends at the end of the month..so budget reports are being ran and looked at every day.

Happy: So nice to hear the fund rasiers were succesful. Did you buy that china that you have your eye on? How was the new yoga class?

Ceejay: Sorry to hear you still aren't feeling well. When is your procedure scheduled?

Shad: How are the feet feeling? I am like you, I don't care to be around drunk co-workers. I also put in my apperance and get a coke and then leave.

Michelle: Sorry to hear that yesterday was difficult for you. I know how that goes. It's been 17 years since I lost my dad and Father's Day always gets me too.

Annie: It's good to see you here. Don't worry about being chatty for personals...just keep checking in when you can and updating us. We love ya!

Terra: Have you tried the DVD yet?

Laura: I love your "lazy" day yesterday. I hope the headache is better.

I am going to sign off and get ready for bed. I hope to hit the treadmill in the morning before work.

If I am missing a day or two this week, know that I'm dealing with PowerPoints for Thursday meetings and I will be here for sure after that. I will try to check in daily though.

Good morning ladies,

Yesterday, I ended up working a little late, only 20 minutes which is no big deal, but it was enough to make me question whether or not I'd get to water aerobics on time, and, therefore, whether or not I should go. I'm one of those people who just hates to be late. But I decided that being a few minutes late is better than not going at all. I ended up joining the class just 5 minutes late and got a great workout. I really enjoy water aerobics!

Today, I'm leaving work at 3 to see a spine specialist. He should have the results of the x-rays and MRI. It will be interesting to hear what he has to say.

===============================
Annie - Glad that you had a good weekend, celebrating Ainsley, and your kids making C feel like an awesome dad. Bummer that you're having hot, humid, rainy weather. Is it any better today?

Laura - So nice of your friends to drive you home and how nice that you had a hosta exchange. Sounds like a lovely, relaxing Sunday. I hope your work week is going well.

Ceejay - I honestly didn't mind the colonscopy, it was the preparation the night before that was awful! I hope you're feeling less pain and that the doc is able to figure out what's going on. When do you have your procedure or next doctor appointment?

Susie - You work so hard during the day and in the evenings. I hope your employer appreciates all you do. So nice that you celebrated father's day with your DH's dad. Did you get up early to do the treadmill today?

Happy - So, did you buy the china? How is the weather up your way?

to Shad and Terra!

Much love,

Afternoon all. Or it will be by the time I post this…

Terra – Dog baths are no fun. We take our guy to the grooming area at petco, where we bathe him ourself using their facilities. We pay about $15 to do that, but it's better than getting our tub all dirty…

Michelle – You sound like you had a really busy weekend. I like amethyst – are you displaying your purchases at home somehow? Glad you made it to the water aerobics class last night!! Hope the appointment with the spine specialist goes well today.

Happy – How was the buffet the other night? Everyone wants to know – did you buy that china set? Nice to have something special. I love kitchen gadgets and all the pretty tableware, etc. I just have to stay away from that sort of thing because it sure takes up the storage space. I already have my grandma’s old china…Great that the fundraiser did so well. How was your yoga class yesterday? Hope you aren’t too sore today!!

Shad – Glad the go-live party went alright and you got yourself out of there before things got nutty.

Dang it, forgot about an appointment at the bank. Better get over there. Grrrr.

Okay, I’m back.

So Shad – is there any Jaffa Drizzle cake left – that’s something orange-y, correct? Sounds delish. How did your first of the two dinner parties go? The menu sounds wonderful.

Ceejay – My condolences on the passing of your aunt. Are you feeling better yet? Your appendix is on your right side, I know that now after bf going through his appendectomy. When’s your colonoscopy? I was ready to go that route last week when my gut was giving me grief…

Susie – Nice you cleaned up the cars. We don’t get our car very messy, but we really do need to have the car detailed. Hope you have a good work week – sounds like a busy one for sure. Did you get on the treadmill this morning??

Annie – your weekend sounds nice. Happy belated b-day to Ainsley – a pool party sounds so fun. I’m glad you and your kids made C’s father’s day special for him. I forget when your trip to St. Louis is – it’ll be nice to get away for a bit, huh?

The new admin started yesterday. Of course she doesn’t have access to our department’s network drive yet – honestly, you’d think that would be part of what HR arranges when a change like this happens. Sigh. Anyway, I think she’ll do well.

I didn’t do much last night after work, though I did finish the book I was reading. On to the next.

I woke up early this morning (I guess it’s the norm now), so I actually got myself to the basement to do one of my Body Electric workouts. Whoo! Short but sweet. My shoulders/upper back might be sore tomorrow…

Nothing planned for tonight. I should change clothes as soon as I get home and get out and plant my flowers & hosta. Hopefully it won’t be raining by then.

Okay, back to it.

Morning all,
If I don't get this done now, early in the morning, I just don't seem to get back here at all. So like exercise, it has gotta be done early.

Dinner party went off well last night. As per normal, I cooked too much and will be eating it until the next dinner party. The Jaffa Drizzle cake I brought in to work with me this morning. They can eat it up. Here is the recipe if you are interested.
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1...a-drizzle-loaf
I found that the lamb in red wine wasn't as nice as I had made it in Aus but it was still tasty. There is a lot of left overs. Some will get frozen for next weeks meals. None of us can eat as much as we used to.

Laura - glad to hear that the admin is doing okay. It might take some work off your shoulders.

Susie - maybe you should ask for a part time assistant to take some of the work off your plate - or maybe you like being overloaded?

Michelle - what results from the Spine man.?

Annie - good to have you in here. Glad the birthdays were good for you all.

Ceejay - Hope the procedure goes off okay and that there is nothing serious coming up.

Terra - hope you got all your walks in today.

Better go look at what I have on my plate to do today. Only 16 working days left to freedom. And from some of the news out of the Aus Govt yesterday, I may have to shift back here permanently - or become a tax resident over here. B?st*rds.

My colonoscopy is on July 8th. I'm feeling better and my side is not hurting as bad is sore but still swollen. I'm praying it's not my appendix. I'm thinking the diverticulitis is acting up again. Sometimes that can be rough. But who knows until the procedure.
I've done some research on my throat closing shut. And what an ear, nose and throat dr on line said sounds logical to me. Someone else had asked the same question with the same symptoms. I'm seeking a second opinion cause that wasn't the first time that happened. It's due to the larynx something touch it such as sinus drainage or small particle of food or even acid reflux.
I've made up my mind for sure that I'm retiring at 65. My sister can't make me work till I'm 66.
Thanks for the condolences for my aunt. She was a good person. She will be missed. Felt so sorry for my cousin. This is the one who lost his son a couple of months ago.

Laura
Good for you for doing your exercise early.

Shad
Hm, you reminded me that I have a couple of slices of cake in the fridge.
At least you will not have to cook for awhile.

Susie
I wish I could work from home. Maybe when I retire.

Annie, Happy, and Terra, Hello

HI Everyone. Just got the kitchen cleaned up from dinner. DH made tacos. I have rice and mushrooms in mine instead of beef or chicken.

I didn't make it to the treadmill this morning. I just couldn't get out of bed. But I did the Walking DVD (2 mile) when I got home tonight.

I am finding that while I'm getting more exercise now I'm not as careful with my food. I really need to put the two together.

Today at work for the site Admin Team we had a class about how to get others to value you. It was all about the way we communicate with people.

This is what I learned1.When you are heard and comprehended it increases your value
2. If you wan to be heard, youcan't speak your language, you have to speak their language.
3. To know the language of the person you are trying to influence you need to become more of a people watcher and a people studier. You do this by being a student of people, observing them, and talking to those who know the person you want to influcene.
4. Remember that speaking more words doesn't help you communicate.
5. Remember that features tell but benefits sell! To influence you must be able to talk the benefits that it brings to the person you want to influence.

It was a interesting training. All based on the "Love Language technique".

Michelle: Good for you for going ahead and going to that class! What did you find out at your appointment today?

Shad: It would be nice if I could have part-time assistant but we are having to cut two heads from the Department for next fiscal to make our headcount numbers..no way would I get even another part-time Admin for the Dept, much less to help me.

We have 3 Admins (including me) taking care of a department of 95 people, 12 that are managment level. I think that makes our jobs secure! I don't mind being busy but working late at night and through lunches day in and day out gets old. But if you don't do it then one gets behind and supporting a Director and a Associate Director I can't get behind.

Laura: Did you get your planting done? We keep having a lot of rain off and on and when it isn't raining it's 90 outside!

Hi Happy, Annie, Terra, CJ!

Morning all. The other three are at a volunteer event today. Pretty quiet around here.

Terra – Nice you can bathe Clyde without too much trouble. Yeh, online time just seems to fly by!

Susie – Very interesting points about communication. Haha, I know someone here at work that doesn’t know #4. Yum, tacos. Love ‘em. Three people supporting 12 managers?!?!?! Wow, that’s a lot of work, but like you say – job security.

Ceejay – Glad you’re feeling a bit better. Do you change your diet when you think the diverticlulitis is acting up?

Shad – Glad the dinner party went well. Thanks for posting the cake recipe – my bf likes orange pound cake – I bet he’d like this cake. I had to look up golden caster sugar though. Not a US thing. Only 16 more days for you – whoohoo! Bummer about the tax thing, but there’s no doubt you somehow pay at least your share if not more, and certainly in a complex way only tax people can dream up.

Happy –What are you up to? I hope the skeeters haven’t gotten so much of your blood you’re off to the hospital for a transfusion…

Michelle – How did the spine dr appointment go?

Hi Annie!
==

I did get out and plant last night, but only the 4 planters that go on the window ledges outside the kitchen. I still have the rest of the flat of impatiens to plant as well as the new hostas.

I have a ton of pruning and shrub trimming to do. Did I ever mention that I thought the rechargeable battery to our “shrubber” fell out and was lost? Not having come across it, we finally went to the user manual on Sunday to look up the part number so we could order a new one. That’s when I finally realized the spot where I thought the battery had fallen out of was not for a battery, but for a long handle attachment (the cap to this opening came off). Doh. The battery on this thing is internal and not removable, and all that’s needed to recharge it is to plug it in! We have another household gadget, the “scumbuster” (for cleaning tub/tile) that has a battery that I was confusing with that of the shrubber. What a dufus I am, but at least we don’t need to buy a battery for this thing. And I can get out and trim the shrubs! I love my little shrubber!

That’s about it for me. Everyone have a good day.

Hi Ladies,

Yes I bought the china. It has delicate blue flowers with a few small lilac flowered accents. It's really pretty and I love it.

Sorry I haven't been around - I have been having trouble accessing this site - my browsers - both of them - keep giving me page not found when I went to the forum part of the website. Wasn't sure if 3FC was down or if it was me. I think we are having issues here.

Been a busy couple of days - I worked on Friday. Also stepped up to work Saturday afternoon as we had no one who could come in and that's one of our busiest days of the week. I made DH come in with me and I'm glad he did - we were busy and he had to run and help out with a few things, plus he is an expert package wrapper! He made some notecards with a few of his butterfly and bird wildlife pictures and donated them to the Humane Society. They all sold and he was quite pleased about that. People commented how lovely his pictures were. I know it made him feel good. Saturday night we went to a Humane Society fundraiser. It was very successful - perhaps their best to date. It just was not fun standing around in dress shoes all night - they didn't have enough tables and chairs and people who got them hogged them all evening. I had stood all afternoon working at the shop so my feet were pretty tired by the time we got dressed to go. Plus I can't tell you the last time I wore "dress shoes" so my feet were screaming by the end of the night. But it was a good time. Sunday we tried a new place for lunch - had the most delicious prime rib sandwich and broasted chicken - we shared dishes. It was nice to get out with DH - he's been working hard and I have spent too much time at the thrift shop. Monday I went to yoga in the morning, raced back to get to my hair appointment in town and stopped for a minute to grab a quick yogurt to tide my tummy over. When I got back in the car something didn't sound right so I pulled over and had a flat tire. I'm just glad it didn't blow as I was doing 60 on the road coming back into town. I pulled into the thrift shop parking lot, called DH and walked over to my appointment. DH was at home waiting for our new bbq grill to be delivered so he could not come to my rescue right away. I spent the afternoon at the shop which worked out well - it gave the regular cashier time to price and she and J cleared out one of the rooms for donations. I worked yesterday and had lunch with the president of the Humane Society - we talked about the road trip we had to the other thrift shop last week. Good meeting. Then I came back to the shop and covered the afternoon as neither shift person made it in. There is a bad cold / flu virus going around and whomever gets it, it knocks the stuffing out of you. Two volunteers have it so I'm glad they did not come into the shop and give it to us!

I am home today and tomorrow and will buckle down and get some things done around the house and get my few flowers and herbs planted.

Good morning ladies,

Sorry for the late-ish check-in. D had cataract surgery on his right eye this morning. It went well, and even though the eye is irritated, dilated and the vision is blurry, it's still much better than with the cataract. The doc said he'd be fine on his own at home, so after driving him to the hospital, waiting during the surgery and driving him home, I went in to work (only 2 hours late). I had told my boss about the surgery and that I wasn't sure how long I'd be but that I'd be in before lunch time. I didn't want to take a whole day off if he didn't need me because I don't have that much vacation time, and I'm going to need a day off for a procedure of my own in the near future, which is a nice segue into my spine specialist appointment,

As suspected, he confirmed that I have a bulging lumbar disc at L4-L5 which is pinching a nerve, and he said that I have "nerve clumping" in my spinal column. Which is where, in most people, the nerves have plenty of room to flow freely...some of mine are clumped together. I haven't done a lot of research on this yet, but he said that and the pinched nerve were the causes of my pain. He strongly suggested an epideral injection (which is a combination of lidocaine to numb and steroid to relieve the swelling and pain). Over the past year, I have spoken to many people in my physical therapy back class and in water aerobics and they had great relief from the epideral.

It's just a stop-gap measure. It will wear off in a few months to a year. He said the best think I can do to alleviate my pain is lose a significant amount of weight (same thing my primary physician said). He happens to be one of the two Medical Directors of the Opti-Fast program for my medical group, and he highly recommends it. He said they he has seen tremendous success in both losing weight and keeping it off...including countless people who have lost 100+ lbs. I told him that I was considering it and also considering bariatric surgery. He said that my medical group requires that people lose at least 10% of their body weight prior to bariatric surgery, and many people choose Opti-Fast as a way to do that. In fact he's seen numerous people cancel their bariatric surgery because of the tremendous success they had with Opti-Fast. Opti-Fast also includes weekly group support and frequent blood tests to monitor everything.

So the good news is that now I have possible ways to help alleviate the pain short-term and long-term. I was talking with B who is disabled due to a cancerous nerve sheath tumor he had removed from his leg nearly a year ago. They had to cut through all the muscle and because he's diabetic the wound still hasn't healed. He told me that I might have to accept that I might have to live with this limited mobility for the rest of my life, and I told him that I'm not willing to go there. His situation is different from mine. None of my muscle tissue has been compromised. The doctors say I'll do better if I lose the weight, so that's what I have to do.

I'm going to an informational meeting about Opti-Fast on Saturday morning, and I'm trying to get registered for an informational meeting about bariatric surgery.

I understand these are both extreme measures and I know that they both require drastic lifestyle changes. I've been talking extensively to people who have done both with great success, and I'm aware that unless I stick with proper eating it's very easy to gain it all back. I'm just not willing to live in pain or to have my mobility limited any longer.

BTW, after I saw the spine specialist, I went to the chiropractor and told her the results of the MRI and got an adjustment, then I went to the gym and did 1/2 hour on the recumbent bike.

Well, I'd best get some work done.

Much love to all,
