Good morning, ladies. A chilly 43 degrees right now and not getting out of the low 50s today. At least the sun is shining.
Faye, is your next appointment with the gyn or diabetic doc? I'm just so sorry you are having all these health problems. Keep on doing what you are doing and I'm sure the diabetes will improve. Are these military docs you are going to or dumb civilians? Whichever, unfortunately you must have gotten the ones who graduated at the bottom of their class. I'd be filing a lawsuit! Good morning to you ladies. I have been furiously knitting on that second sock and am at the heel flap and onto the foot then.
I have the morning chores done, but have to tackle the rest downstairs today, the dreaded dusting that I hate and cleaning kitchen countertops and the stove, which has a ceramic top. Can't say I am not madder than you know what because looking over my tests and such, it is obvious that long term taking of this med combined with her doubling the dosage is what shoved me into serious diabetes. As the old saying goes though I have to "let go and let God." I am just going to move forward, stay on my diet, take whatever meds they put me on and get better. I think the longer the hormone meds are out of my system, the better my blood sugar will get. I am not saying I will be back to normal, but not the horribly high numbers from Friday. Susan: I have civilian drs. As for my appts, I go to the pharmacy appt first, a week from today, then my gyn appt is on Friday. He and I are going to go head to head as I am more than fed up with this. I have been trusting and really patient and doing that got me into the mess I am in now. Under no circumstances will I consider going back on this med and he is going to have to consider surgery, risky or not if he doesn't have a better idea to get me to stop bleeding and passing tissue and such. It is ridiculous for a 60 old woman to be bleeding all the time. We are waiting to join the Y until the end of the month so that the auto pay comes out the first of the month. It is the area in my budget where we have the most money. :lol: Since you are the queen of veggies, I have a question to ask. I have eaten fresh spinach in salads and spinach in dip, but never anything else. I bought a box of Green Giant creamed spinach and am not sure how I am going to like it. Do you have a suggestion to add anything to "spruce" it up and make it more palatable for me to eat until I get used to it??? Jean: Thanks for the info. I am not sure about the book at this time as I don't totally agree with the two guys who wrote the book (ie their website) but also before I do something more drastic, I want to get on a program and get my body adjusted to it and see if being off the med will change everything somewhat. We sure did skip right over fall and zoom into winter weather for sure. It is in the low 20's here today and I am sitting around in a hooded sweater and a blanket. :lol: Did finding the two bags of money mess anything up with regards to the church accounting?? Don't you wonder how long they had been there. The application time has closed for the promotion Jack applied for and he said he has been studying up. From what I understand, you have to prove you have had supervisory experience, which Jack has about 10 years from the Navy, then you have to go through a question process about your knowledge of the job. Though Jack doesn't have welding experience and some heavy duty motors he has been studying up. It is not listed for outsiders nor can the people that are contract workers at the plant apply. It is currently only for employees at the south plant. Jack says not many would have the supervisory experience nor the knowledge but he says he doesn't know how many people have applied. Keep prayers coming that he would be given the position. It will be a mostly desk job, which will allow him to stay in for his 20 years, which gives us 50% of his pay as a pension instead of 35%. It is also a small pay raise, but most importantly he won't be climbing,etc putting stress on his knees. Have a good day everyone. I have work to get done. Faye |

Titilating Thursday
♪♥♫GOOD NOVEMBER AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS☺♫
It is currently 46°s and partly cloudy on this chill day here in the ♥-Land. Will has gone to his volunteer job at the museum and the animals are all inside snoozing. I have lots to do today so need to get to it after I finish posting here. The citrus fruit in the markets here is looking sad and all I bought was a bag of Cuties. In the mail I received a fruit catalogue from Florida and I promptly placed an order for a fruit assortment of 6 Navel Oranges, 4 Tangelos, 2 jumbo Ruby Red Grapefruit, 2 Fuji Apples and 2 D’Anjou Pears all picked at the peak of perfection. I love fruit and since Will is going to be eating more fruit (he isn’t a big fruit eater) now that he is trying to eat a better balanced diet this catalogue came at a good time. We should have that order consumed in no time and make another order in the near future if we are pleased with their produce. :lol: There was a sticker on the front of the catalogue for some dollars off which covered the shipping. Life is good. Plus the fruit is guaranteed to be fresh and if there is any problem at all they will replace it or refund the money. Times like this I miss living on the coast where fresh fruit is so available. I heard a conversation that a husband and wife were having standing in front of our Jeep. He said while pointing to the Jeep, “Look ~ that is exactly what I have been wanting.” She replied, “I want 4 doors.” He said, “But honey we don’t have any kids at home and don’t really need a 4 door Jeep, and besides a 2 door one has a better turning radius.” To which she replied, “I want 4 doors.” He said, “One day I will have a Jeep like this one .” And she replied, “I want 4 doors.” He then said, “Let’s go” and they climbed into their 4 door vehicle made by Jeep but it wasn’t a CJ model. I see a further discussion coming in that family and hope their marriage survives. DONNA FAYE:hug: I sure hope the doctors you are seeing now are quality folks and get your system on a healing track better than it has been. Certainly it would seem you have some recourse with what happened with those meds. I certainly do hope that Jack gets that promotion. I don't imagine there are many others that have his qualifications that work there. SUSAN Thank you for starting a new thread number. Hope your day continues to be a lovely one. Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining and NO wind so far this morning. It's supposed to be a nice day and into the 50s again. I hope so! Wind and rain for the weekend however. I started a grocery list and now can't find it. :tantrum: That's what I get for cleaning off the island in a hurry yesterday. I'm hoping it's in my purse and that's my last place to look. Also need to make a WM stop.

They say that's where your body heat exits the fastest and why it's important to wear a hat outside in the cold weather. :yes: I sure hope Jack gets the job and am sending positive vibes his way. When will he find out? Maggie -- You have far more faith in the postal system than I do, to order fruit from Florida. I'm convinced our post office stores excess bags of mail and packages in the corner a few times a week. :hyper: Anything UPS delivers is so dirty/gritty I hate to pick it up. Good morning gals. I have been online Christmas shopping for the little guy. I haven't gotten a list from the older one so no list, he gets money. Jackson loves shoes especially Vans so I am buying him 2 pairs, one is checkerboard tie up and the other is slip on and has flames on them. He is big into everything Leggo so I got him a Leggo Wii game, 3 Leggo sets, which were a bundle and pretty cheap, a Ninja turtle shirt, and several books and the dvd Turbo. I can buy a lot for him as his stuff isn't all that expensive, except the shoes were $40 apiece. The two of them have their Nonny's number for sure! :lol:
Susan: thank you for thinking of Jack and putting him on a prayer list. Sure hope they give him the job. I worry everyday about his knees. Jean: Yes, I wear the hood on my sweater and at night I put up the blanket over my head as it is the only way I warm up when I get cold. I figure my hair has thinned and that is part of the reason I get so cold. Hope you have found your grocery list. In between commissary shopping days, Jack usually picks up stuff when we need it. I send him a list by text and that way he doesn't usually forget anything. I am still waiting for our photos from our cruise. I use shutterfly every year, but the UPS/Mail innovations is horrible, just like the Fedex postal combo. They don't update and so we have to unlock the gate everyday. The stuff was supposed to be delivered yesterday but I am still waiting for them. Maggie: I get catalouges everday and got one from a place called Haskins or Hastings or something like that. I was going to order oranges from them, but when I divided it out, the oranges were about $4 apiece, which is ridiculous. Hope your fruit is great! Gotta go gals. Good Afternoon, Flowers! The street has been wet all morning but no rain -- strange. The wind is blowing and it's that damp chilly feeling even though it's a "warm" 58 degrees. I braved the grocery store this morning. The coupon was for $.25 off a gallon of gas if you spent $100. I haven't been to the store for a couple weeks and walked out with $168 worth in just a few bags. Meat adds up pretty quickly and I bought jars of pickles and olives for relish trays that I'm/we're taking to two different Christmas get togethers. Now I need to change the sheets and do a couple loads of laundry this afternoon. Bob met Jason at the lake, this morning, to get the dead refrigerator out; I forgot ask about the smell.
I did a STUPID and am so mad at myself! The last time we were in Maui I bought a pair of earrings that I wear alot -- small Hawaiian flower studs. I took them off one evening and laid them on the counter, which I NEVER do. I forgot to pick them up and now can only find one. :cry: My counter is multiple colors and everything little blends right in. I've gone through the junk mail bag and the calendar that lays there, no luck. I need to check under the fridge in case a fur person found it on the floor and played hockey. Not holding my breath however. "Gma" -- I found my grocery list in my purse. :o Guess I should have looked there first since my purse goes to the store with me. Beth uses Shutterfly to make calendars of the kids' pictures every year, and really likes them. Hope your pictures have arrived by now! Somehow I'm on their email list so get offers every once in awhile. I just found out my phone has a memory card with any pictures I might take with my phone; and it's a dumb phone. :lol: Are you doing anything special for your anniversary on Monday? It is 65°s with a slight breeze and quite a lovely day here in the ♥-Land. We have been out and about and did a bit of grocery shopping but before we left I put a roast and some veggies in the crock pot and the wonderful smell of it cooking hit us as we walked into the house from the back door that opens to the little hall by the kitchen. So you will know what we will be having for dinner. :yes: I have got to get some pictures made of the museum and get the glass ordered to make one so they can raffle it off this winter. That will be my project to get done in December. It isn’t like I have to do it but I want to do it which makes a big difference. But first things first is to get some photos of the building when the light is right this afternoon. The other ones that Will took were not quite what I needed. While I am waiting for my order to get here I can be working on the pattern. I have some orange glass but it is too orange to work for the building is old brick and more rosy. I may end up buying the glass in separate sheets where I usually buy it in 12 sheet bundles. That way I can more or less pick the shade I want. Costs more that way but I want it to look its best representation that I can. Our friends from Texas may be coming for a couple days visit next week which will be a fun time. Then a couple of my brothers-in –law are going to make a visit sometime before the end of the year or soon in the new year. They will all let us know the final planned dates when they get it all figured out. They won’t be visiting at the same time together but not far apart. It will sure be fun to have them for we like them a lot and always have a great time being around them. The one is making a roundabout trip to Washington state to visit his oldest son and family for Christmas so we kind of know when he will be here. We love having company and are happy they want to visit when my sisters are no longer alive. JEAN I sure hope you can find that earring. Tell your cat to bring it back. One time my crystal bodied and gold legged spider disappeared off a bathroom shelf and I looked Turn in the eyes and said "bring spidey back" and he did ~ dropped it at my feet. The legs were all bent out of shape but I was able to fix it back to exact. If you can't find yours maybe you would consider having another hole punched in one of your lobes and wear just the one since it is a special one. I have two holes in my left ear lobe and three in my right. I wear a nice diamond in the third hole in the right ear. I was in a jewelry store owned by a friends husband and he came up behind me and put the hole punch on my ear one day years ago and showed me that diamond and said he would punch a hole in my ear and I could have the diamond earring for he had just sold the other one. I let him do it and it is a very good stone. I wear gold cubes in the second holes all the time and change just the front earrings on occasion. I mainly wear a set of small hoops all the time that Will got me years ago. Some times I do change the diamond for another small earring. DONNA FAYE The company I ordered from had good prices lower than what you said. Since it was a variety pack of different sizes and weights it all averaged out to be quite acceptable for us providing it is what it is advertised to be. We will see when we get the shipment and like I said they have a 100% refund if it isn't as advertised. Since the fruit in the stores here is pathetic looking we are willing to pay a bit more for it to have it shipped in from Florida. I would much rather eat fresh than canned. Good morning ladies. Had a busy day yesterday and never did get in here. I took Kelly to lunch for her bday, which was yesterday. I bought her this beautiful handmade necklace in Jamaica, but it got twisted up somehow and I have to restring it before I can give it to her so I bought her a Macy's gift card. They go to a lot of charity events and such around this time of year so I thought she could buy a dress or at least it will contribute to a dress.
We then defrosted my chest freezer and messed with the dryer a bit. I think I am going to have to get Sears in here again and see if they can clean out the vent that goes outside. It must be getting plugged again. What a pain. Today I am washing the shower curtains and doing up laundry and possibly getting upstairs and do some work, but I am feeling so crummy I don't know. The female stuff is really bad and I am in pain like menstrual cramps most of the time now and it makes my upper thighs ache too. We were going to clean the deck today but it rained hard last night so its a no go. We have to wait for everything to dry out. Jean: Oh, I hope you find your earring. I have favorites too and would hate to lose them. I am missing a Pandora bracelet and I am not sure where the heck it is. I am going to go through my necklace bags and see if it got put in there when we were on the ship. I hope so as it is the one with all the animals on it. I was watching a diy program yesterday about people who buy houses at auctions then fix them up and flip them. These two best friends bought this house and when they went in they said the smell was so bad that something had died in there and called an exterminator. This guy just walzed in with gloves on and a black trash bag and found a dead raccoon where the heat registers were and just pulled it out and put it in a bag. Kind of made me gag. This particular house was totally stripped. The previous owners took everything from the appliances, sinks, toilets, pot lights, heat registers, pipes and even went into the attic and stripped all the electrical lines! It cost these guys $7000 just to put the electrical lines back in. When you buy at auction, you don't get to see anything but the outside of the property so you basically buy blind. They do end up with gorgeous homes when finished though. Maggie: Glad you get decent prices on things. I have trouble even in summer finding good oranges. I hate when they are stringy with no flavor. It is a waste of money except to freshen the garbage disposal! I guess I better get some work done. Have a lovely day. It is really warm here today in the 70's. Faye |
Good Afternoon, Flowers! The sun is shining and there is a breeze blowing. I drove to church in the dark and pouring rain this morning. The crazy weather continues! Bob left earlier as his group was singing and they practice before church. We had to serve coffee between services and will be greeters next week. The kids put on a baked potato dinner for a trip fund raiser; I didn't think very many people stayed to eat although a few from first service waited around through the coffee time. Now I should pick up the kitchen but may read the papers instead. I feel lazy after spending the whole morning plus at church. :dance:
Maggie -- The glass museum will be a nice project to do. How big will it be? I think it's nice when relatives stay in touch after a family member dies. I'm sure you look forward to having your friends and relatives visit. I only have one hole in each ear. :) I'm just hoping I can find another pair when we are in Maui. I was actually thinking of getting a silver pair since I don't have much silver jewelry. "Gma" -- Bob cleans my dryer vent by tying a bath towel on a long rope. He takes the pipe off the dryer and starts at that end. I have a 90 degree turn in the crawl space so he tries to do it a couple times a year. Even though I clean the dryer vent every time, there still is quite a bit of lint that accumulates. I hope you are feeling better this afternoon. So far no sign of the lost earring. :( We watched HGTV yesterday; I can't help but wonder what these people do for jobs in order to afford $600,000+ homes. I'd be a wreck worrying about one of us losing our job and then the house. I do have sheets ready for the dryer so better head downstairs and at least do that. Good morning girls! I went to bed early so am up bright and early. Things are definitely improving diabetic wise. My eyes seem to be back to normal I am not having thirst issues and am not urinating all the time and I noticed my urine doesn't have that sweet smell to it. Instead of being up 4-6 times at night I usually have to get up around 10 then I don't get up again until I wake up. At least I should be in a better range than I was when I went to the dr. I have been off those pills a month so maybe my blood sugar has come down significantly. I sure hope so because those numbers were frightening.
I am coming along on the last sock. I have about 25 rows to finish the foot then do the toe and I will have T's socks done. I am also working on a bright pink scarf and hat for my niece, who is a school teacher. She has playground duty this year and ask if I would make her a hat and scarf. I didn't order near enough yarn for the scarf though and will have to go and buy 4 more skeins at my online store. I am waiting for her to send my her head circumference so I can make sure the hat will fit. She has a lot of hair and wears it in a long bob. I have gained a couple lbs, but seem to be going back and forth on the scale. I figure it is all this female stuff I am going through right now as I am staying on my program. Jean: I also wonder where these people that buy houses get cash money to buy a house that costs hundreds of thousands. I understand once they get established that their bank would loan them the money then they flip the house and get their profit and pay the bank back, but at auction you have to have the cash to just pay for it. We watch a lot of the diy type shows and I have seen more than once a couple like on House Hunter find their home and get ready to buy it and one of them loses their job so they can't buy or worse the other day on Income Property this couple bought this house with an income suite for her mom and the ink hadn't dried on the documents and he was out of a job,but they had commited to it and the remodel. Good Afternoon, Flowers! The sun is shining but it's cold even though the wind isn't blowing at the moment. We were a person short to count this morning and it took awhile with $78.08 in coins to count from the kids putting money in a piggy bank during the church services. We only count that every so often but it does add to the time element. I had to go back to the gift shop to put holiday cards in the rack and pay a bill so that was my afternoon excursion. I have card club tonight.
"Gma" -- Happy Anniversary to you and Jack! :cp: I'm so glad you are feeling better, and I hope that continues! You will have the small gain gone in no time. I do worry about running out of money when Bob finally retires! With all of our retirement accounts he has checked, checked again, and rechecked the figures. :hyper: With the economy what it is and the politicians in the mix, it's scary. I'm glad our house and cars are paid for at least. As hard as it will be, I wish the cabin were sold too. I keep thinking if something happens to Bob I don't know what will happen to it. The kids can't afford it and the market right now isn't the best. I need to think about something for supper since I will be leaving shortly afterwards. Hope you all enjoy your evening! :wave: |

We had a good time this day doing some needed shopping and not much else. Did go to WW and I showed a loss of 2.8 and am happy for that for it has me at a total loss of 91.4. (Been there but had gained some back.) Ever closer to that 100 down once again. DONNA FAYE I am so happy for you that you are feeling so much better. You weight loss efforts will pay off better when your female issues are resolved. JEAN I do so hope you do find that missing earring. It is such a puzzle and agrivation when things disappear like that. I do so hope that you do find a buyer soon after you put the cabin on the for sale list. We keep a huge jar behind a seat in the Jeep and all our change goes into it. Last time we took it into the bank to be counted it was well over $100. Good morning to you all. I got up at 4, but after Jack left for work I went back to sleep for an hour. I tend to have weird dreams when I sleep in the daytime even early in the morning. One recurring dream I have, which you all will get a big laugh out of is various situations where I am in a previous home we lived in or someone elses home and the house looks like a hoarders house. I am always the one starting to clean the house back up and usually if I am not woken up, the house is cleaned up by the time I am awake. :lol:
I started my niece's hat and it is going to be so cute. It is called going in circles. I also have a good bit of her scarf done too and am almost done with Thomas's sock. As soon as I finish her stuff and finish the scarf I am making for my best friend for her birthday next year to go with her hat, I am ripping out the sweater that was too big and making it smaller. Jean: Jack and I started almost 8 years ago discussing what our retirement money will be like. We lived the poor life and I am not going back to that for sure. With his Navy retirement, his SS and his city pension we will be ok, not rolling in money, but not having to worry about bills either. Everything will be paid off except the new car and general expenses. We will have homeowners insurance, property taxes, and the maintenance fee here, but we will handle that ok too. Another 15% of his pension though would be nice. I think about being alone and not having him to do things for me like climbing up on ladders and such. I am sure Thomas would come over and help me out though if I ask him. I would find counting all that change irritating. I don't like what I consider busy work and I think that is why I hate to dust so much. Maggie: We too have a change container and I imagine it is a hefty amount by now. We change it in and taking it on our vacations usually. I have to tell you Maggie, I am fed up with what is going on female wise. I am going to just tell him I want it taken out. There is nothing they can do to make it stop what it is doing, what they did for 18 months hasn't worked and I am never ever going back on that hormone. Anyway, like you, I feel they fix the female problem and my weight loss will be easier to do. Well girls, I should go. I have upstairs bathrooms to clean today. It is pretty chilly here today so I turned the furnace up a bit. I will have to turn it down when I go upstairs or it will be too hot. Have a good Tuesday. Faye |

Not sure about it, maybe it will be better leftover. I need to clean up the cooking/baking dishes when I finish here. Cooking and clean up take too much time imo!
Maggie -- :congrat: on losing another 2.8#s! :cp: :cp: You will be at the 100#s gone in no time! Bob keeps his change in a glass peanut butter jar shaped like a bear. I wouldn't even guess how old it is. He dumps that into an ice cream bucket and when that's full he heads to the bank. I took it one time and there was a washer in the mix; I was so embarassed. "Gma" -- Did you and Jack do anything special for your anniversary? How many years have you been married? I really think I would move to Sioux City if anything would happen to Bob. I really like Sioux Falls, too, but know my way around Sioux City since we lived there. I would also be closer to friends from college and Bob's hometown. Then again, I might just stay put here. :dunno: I chuckle to myself when you talk about turning the furnace on or up. My furnace has been on for probably six weeks or better. :jig: I have to get at the dishes so the kitchen is ready for the supper round, which will be sweet and simple. Titilating Tuesday

It is a windy day in the high 50°s here in the ♥-Land and feels quite chilly. I will get some house cleaning this afternoon for it is just too windy to go out to the range and pop a few caps. Will got me a S&W 22 for my birthday and it is a very low number and in new shape. Our Cree-off road lights, that go on the top of the front bumper above the wench, came today and we have an appointment to have them installed (wired) on Friday. There is a dash switch inside the jeep that we don’t use because it is for a back window washer for a glass window and we have a rag top so we have it disconnected. They can wire the lights to that switch in dash board. They are super bright lights that can be tilted up into the sky or down on the road or right or left or straight ahead. The kid installing them said he is going to order that same kind of lights for his vehicle and asked where we got ours. They will certainly come in handy when we are driving at night on a lonely road up high in the mountains or elsewhere off road or on a lonely one anywhere for that matter. Having them so handily near to switch off when or if we meet any oncoming vehicle is a plus. Usually we haven’t met oncoming traffic in those places but you just never know and we certainly need to be prepared to be courteous and not blind the oncoming driver. I have a meatloaf all mixed up and in its pan in the oven. For the last 15 minutes of cooking I paint the top with a mixture of catsup and Splenda® brown sugar mix. I look forward to the leftovers because we both love meat loaf sandwiches. I haven’t yet decided what veggies I am going to serve with it for dinner. I think I will give Will the chance to choose when he gets out of the shower. JEAN What kind of casserole was it? Lots of times casseroles are better when they are warmed up another day. Seems like our weather is alike with the wind. I sure use a lot of hair spray. :p Isn't it funny how all men (or most anyway) save change. I am sure glad our bank counts it for us. I am sure banks have found worse things than a washer in the coins so don't feel so bad. If you were a fly on the wall at your bank I imagine there were lots of odd things in with the coins to be counted. We bought a fresh turkey breast for Thanksgiving and I am going to peel the skin back and lavish the meat with a spice mix then put the skin back on and bake it. If it isn't windy Will may do in on the Barbie. What are your plans? DONNA FAYE I got a kick about your dreams ~ you even clean in them. Graceous sakes girlfriend. :D I am so sure those folks will love those items you are knitting for them. Hand made items make such lovely gifts. I have a wonderful throw an elder lady made for me. She is a person that I remember from when I was 5 years old who always gave me a treat when I visited her. It was half an orange that had been cut with a tad sprinkle of salt on it to bring out the juice. She is still alive and just as nice as ever. Good morning all. When it rains it pours at this house. We have a possible big time plumbing problem. I got up at midnight and went to the bathroom downstairs and the toilet tried to overflow. I plunged it several times, but it acted partially blocked. Jack went upstairs and flushed the hall toilet and it leaked through the ceiling. Bad time for expensive repairs for sure. :(
I have his socks and my niece's hat both done. The socks look brown but are actually different colors of gray. The pattern for the hat is called running in circles and she said she loves hot pick so I gave her hot pink. She has a black coat so it should look good Jean: No, we just fixed a couple steaks here at home. I am trying not to eat out much. We have been married 41 years. I married Jack just a few months after graduating high school, but I was 19 when we got married. I try to just do one load of dishes a day, but then I don't have anyone popping in for lunch either. I don't like a lot of pasta casseroles reheated unless they are heartier type pasta like the tube style or the larger shells. Hope the second time around it is better. Maggie: Sounds like the jeep is going to be super duper when it is all done. Congrats on the loss! :carrot: We are going to a big buffet that the fancy pants Holiday Inn has here every year. Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is barely peeking through the cloud cover and the wind is blowing worse than yesterday if that's possible. Snow is predicted for later this afternoon and tonight. :( I have a roast cooking and have been playing games on the iPad. I should never start that until I have my chores done first! :rolleyes:
Maggie -- What all do you put in your meatloaf? I have probably asked you before; I've tried many different recipes but none match my mom's meatloaf. :no: The casserole was hamburger, onion, and green pepper with a jar of pizza sauce mixed in. Noodles, cooked, Cheddar cheese, and Mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni. You layer half of each and baked long enough to melt the cheese assuming it was still hot from the stove. I thought it was kind of dry and not a whole lot of flavor. Bob doesn't like to carry change as he says it pulls his pants down. He has no bu** and is always hitching his pants up. I told him I was going to get him suspenders for Christmas and I just might! I remember his dad wearing them but mine never did. "Gma" -- I sure hope your plumbing isn't a major fix and expense for you. :crossed: When we met in Hawaii on R & R, we went to a Don Ho show where he asked how many couples were celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, etc. One couple close by had been married 25 years and I thought that was a lifetime since we'd only been married a year. Now I think about 46 years together and wonder where the time went. I saw the hat on FB and love the design and color. Thomas will love the socks, I'm sure, because you made them. I am dressed and ready for the day, but need to work on sorting clothes. I'm trying to keep my capris and t-shirts packed away together so I don't have to do a panic hunt when I need them in February. It is currently 55°s with SW wind at 9 mph and 53% humidity. It is the humidity that I don’t like at all and never did get used to it when living in TN. :no: Not much going on this day. I did receive my two new crocks to store my cooking utensils in and they have a divided crock thing that has 3 compartments that do come out if you desire. I got a red one and a blue one and have them both filled now. :lol: Wooden type things in one and metal in the other. I have pulled out a few things that I will put in the motor-home in a drawer. Will got his new coffee pot and we will see how it performs. JEAN Every time I make a meatloaf I make it different for I don’t follow a recipe but here is what I put in the one I made yesterday and it was excellent we both thought. MEATLOAF a la MAGGIE Chop up into small pieces and mix together in a large bowl: ½ of a yellow onion Several celery stalks Several little carrots Mushrooms Add and mix together thoroughly: Catsup One whole egg, beaten A cup of bread crumbs 1 packet dry onion soup Freshly ground black pepper Worchester Sauce Onion powder Italian seasonings 2# lean sirloin burger 3 hot Italian sausage lengths (casings removed) Place all in a meatloaf pan making the top flat Bake for 1 hour & 15 minutes in a 375° oven Paint the top of the meatloaf with a mixture of catsup and Splenda Brown™ Continue to bake for an additional 15 minutes. SUSAN I have a dry rub mix which I have named: Will’s Rub since he does the smoking in the Barbie. Rub it on @ 2 hours before smoking or cooking it in the oven. ¼ cup paprika ⅔ cup chili powder 1 tsp ground ginger 1 tsp ground nutmeg 2 tsp ground dry mustard 1 tsp ground cloves 1 tsp dry mesquite flavored seasoning mix 2 Tbsp garlic salt 1 Tbsp black pepper 1 cup packed brown sugar (I use Splenda®Brown) I pull back the skin on the turkey breast and cover it with the mix then put the skin back on and cook it either in the house or on the Barbie. There is enough mix to use at a later time and it stores well. DONNA FAYE Hopefully your repairs aren't too spendy and not a major problem. Your knitting projects are good as usual. ♪♥♫GOOD NOVEMBER MORNING MAGNOLIAS☺♫
It is a chilly day here in the ♥-Land this day with the current temperature at 26°F as a low and 33°F as the expected high with light snow and the ever present wind. It is good that we have a well working furnace here in this house and I am so very thankful for that. The animals are all staying inside this day where it is nice and warm. They have all visited me here in my office and gotten their morning “good boy” treats and now are back in the front room snoozing. Cecil comes with them for a treat and it cracks me up when they all three are sitting by my desk lined up looking at me expectantly. What a crew. They all get two treats from me each day ~ morning and evening. Will gives them some during the day. They have clocks in them for they all show up at the same time for their treats. We give them the kind that the first ingredient is beef or the all beef or chicken kind. They love those little hotdog looking things that are crunchy on the outside and yummy beef on the inside. I guess it is yummy but I haven’t tasted them. All beef can mean anything on a cow including the hooves but it is all cooked at 700° or higher. We ended up going out to I-Hop after class last evening and a Doctor friend of ours joined us and we had a good time talking and laughing. He had just come from the hospital where he had delivered two babies by C section back to back and wanted a big breakfast. I had a RB sand and brought half of it home and will have it for lunch. We will do the meatloaf re-run this evening in sandwiches. I made a lovely fruit salad with fresh pineapple in it which will be good with sandwiches. Will left earlier than usual this day for the museum for he had some errands to run before his time there. Good afternoon gals. All done at the PEM meeting. Thank goodness Tricare Prime allows new meds and such. I got the Freestyle meter, which is easy to use and only needs small amount of blood. I had to do a practice run and stuck myself, did my meter and got results and looked down and my hand was covered in blood. My finger was bleeding like crazy just from a little stick. I only have to check my blood sugar once a day and I will be taking an oral med twice a day and I have one of the new insulin pens so no syringes. I ask tons of questions as did Jack and I am so glad he went. It is really overwhelming to have to know how to do all these new things and such. They will call and check on my progress a couple times next week then I have to go back in 3 weeks from now. They are happy with my diet and such, which is good.
Tomorrow is Christmas shopping for the little guy after my appt with the gyn. I have decided I am going to demand the first of next year I have a hysterectomy. I am done going through this. I have to wait because Jack has no more vacation days. He took his last one today to go with me. I can wait that long. My hands are freezing today for some reason. Jack will grab my hand when we are sitting in the recliner and his hands are always so toasty. I have lost a lot of weight in my fingers so maybe that is why they are cold. Jean: The casserole doesn't sound bad, maybe it just needs something more liquid to keep it from being dry maybe more pizza sauce. Except for it being dry did it taste good??? I like bell pepper in my meatloaf but Jack doesn't so mine is gr sirloin, ketchup, br sugar, onion, bread crumbs and egg, mix and bake. Hope you aren't going to get a lot of snow. Susan: Yay for one thing. Jack unplugged the downstairs toilet and that made the upstairs one work fine so no expensive plumber!! We are joining YMCA a week from tomorrow. We are waiting because they do an auto pay for the 1st and the 15th and I want them to charge my bank account on the first instead of the 15th. I am looking forward to the pool :dance: I think I would like to try a stationary type bike maybe. I am looking forward to it. Maggie: The dogs have the right idea. Stay inside and stay warm. Have you started on your museum project??? Ok, I want your very best sugar free dessert. I am not a big cake person, but whatever you think is the best tasting dessert send me the recipe. DONNA FAYE I love lemons and this is one of our favorite holiday desserts ~ it may sound involved and complicated but it is really easy and well worth the making. If you or your husband doesn’t care for lemon desserts then let me know what kind would suit you and I will type it out for you for I have lots of good tasting others . COLD LEMON SOUFFLES 8 servings ~ 5 P+ per serving 1 envelope unflavored gelatin ¼ cup water 1½ cups Splenda® measures like sugar 1 cup grated lemon zest (about 3 large lemons) 6 large eggs, separated, at room temperature ¾ cup + 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (about 4 large lemons) ¼ teaspoons salt 2 cups fat-free sour cream Blueberry sauce, optional for topping 1. Wrap a folded strip of aluminum foil around each of eight 6-ounce soufflé dishes to form a collar that stands 2 inches above the rims; secure with tape. Spray the insides of the dishes and foil with nonstick spray. 2. Sprinkle the gelatin over the water in a small bowl. Let stand until softened, about 5 minutes. Place the bowl in a larger bowl of hot water and stir until the gelatin is complete dissolved. 3. Put one cup of the Splenda® and the lemon zest in a food processor; pulse until finely ground. With an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the egg yolks, lemon-Splenda® mixture, lemon juice, and salt in a deep large bowl until combined. Fill a medium saucepan with about 1½ inches of water and bring almost to a simmer over medium-low heat, Set the bowl with the egg yolk mixture over the saucepan and beat until very thick and pale or 160°F on an instant-read thermometer, about 15 minutes. Remove the bowl from the saucepan. Add the gelatin mixture and beat until the mixture comes to room temperature; set aside. 4. With clean beaters and the mixer on medium speed, beat the egg whites in a large bowl until soft peaks form. Increase the speed to medium-high. Beat in the remaining ½ cup Splenda®, 1 tablespoon at a time, until stiff. 5. Beat the sour cream on medium-high speed in a medium bowl until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Place the bowl containing the egg yolk mixture in a larger bowl filled with ice water and whisk just until the mixture begins to thicken. Gently fold in the sour cream, then the beaten egg whites just until no white streaks remain. Divide evenly among the soufflé dishes; smooth the tops. Refrigerate until chilled and set, at least 3 hours or up to overnight. Remove the collars and serve at once with blueberry sauce (if using). BLUEBERRY SAUCE Makes 6 ~ ¼ cup servings ~ 1 P+ a serving 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries ½ cup powdered sugar 2 tablespoons water Pinch salt Pinch cinnamon (optional) 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice Combine the blueberries, sugar, water, salt, and cinnamon (if using) in a large saucepan and set over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the berries soften and the mixture forms a sauce, 5-7 minutes. Stir in the lemon juice. Serve at once, or let cool to room temperature. Refrigerate in a covered container up to 1 week. Just before using, shake the sauce well and serve chilled or gently reheated. Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining, the wind is blowing, it's 7 degrees but "feels" like -4! I'm dressed and have had coffee, tried to solve a puzzle on the iPad (no luck), and need to get some laundry going. We are heading to Sioux Falls tomorrow morning for Ian's birthday party. Bob's hometown church ladies make peanut brittle so will stop and pick that up, then on to Beth's and pick them up on our way. Will is still working Saturdays so can't go with us. :(
Susan -- I did pick up some Christmas stamps so now to find the cards I bought on sale last year. I do know which cupboard they are in! :cp: I was thinking I would try and find some Oliver (tractor) suspenders for Bob. I doubt he will wear them but it will be good for a laugh. I really like leftover meatloaf in sandwiches :T while Bob warms his like the first time around. Good afternoon ladies. I am back from the dr and though right now I am in a lot of pain, just have to ride it out. The new gyn did a biopsy (which is why I have a lot of pain right now) while I was in the office and after it comes back if all is copecetic, I will be having surgery after the first of the year. He thinks everything is ok enough to do laproscopic and if he gets in there and it isn't possible will then just do an incision hysterectomy. No one like surgery, but I just can't take this anymore. I feel like I have been more than patient.
I did my first injection of insulin last evening. It is really easy to do with the pen, but the needles are really, really small and when I went to put the safety cap on it so we could safely dispose it, I jabbed myself in the thumb! :lol: I started the oral meds this morning so am hoping in the next few days I can get my blood sugar back to normal. Maggie: Thanks for the recipe it looks great!! I didn't think you could have good tasting sugar free desserts and such, but frankly I don't notice the difference. I am not eating a bunch of desserts regardless, but I have tasted some sugar free stuff and except for Jello pudding everything has been quite tasty. Jean: Holy cow I can't believe it is that cold up there. We are getting a lot of rain, but it is supposedly in the 50's. I don't know, as I am cold! :lol: I love peanut brittle and have since I was a kid. I can actually get sugar free, but I am avoiding buying a bunch of sweets because I have to count them in my exchanges/calories and why waste your starches and fruit and fat in pie when you can have it in something else better for you. It is a chilly day of 33° as I type with a low expected of 23° when the day is done. I am happy to just stay inside this day as long as I can. After Will gets back we will most probably go visit the buffalo. Will is down at the shop getting the Cree lights installed on the Jeep front bar. We are getting it all together piece by piece the way we want it set up. Next I think is getting a setup for the high lift jack to ride beside the tire on the back and a tow bar for the MH. It will be an easy one to match for the back bumper of the MH matches the front bumper of the Jeep without any drop or lift to have to be considered. The tow dolly we used to bring the Jeep home when we bought the MH wasn’t to our liking so we sold it. The way the Jeep is set up on the front with a wench it will work much better with a straight tow and not use a tow dolly which has the front two wheels off the road. I just received a spreadsheet with my bro in law’s itinerary on his road trip and he will be with us Dec.7th 8th & 9th then off to CO on the 10th as his plan goes. He is making quite a road trip from Dec. 1 to Jan 4 visiting relatives all along the way through several states. He and my sister had 5 boys and they and their families are scattered throughout the states. I don’t have a clue what I am going to fix for dinner. I think I will wait until Will gets home and let him have some input on what he may want. It is after one of the clock and I have not eaten anything yet. He probably won’t be back to around 2 or 2:30 which will give some meat time to thaw before dinner. Well, there is always the microwave thaw method. . . JEAN OH you are in cold weather for sure. :o I have the proper clothing to be out in the cold but I don't like to bundle up but I do anyway. I hope you have a safe trip to Sioux Falls and have fun at the party. Homemade peanut brittle is so good ~ I haven't made any in years. Wonder how it would taste if it is made with a sugar substitute. It is nice you have found a home for your "deck cat." My mother always chopped up veggies to put in a meatloaf so I guess that is where I got it from. Chopped up fine that make a great addition to a loaf. It is another chilly day here in the ♥-Land with the temp at 26°s with a low of 15°s. My sleep last night kept being disturbed by the neighborhood dogs sounding off and getting our dogs to respond. Don’t have a clue what was in the alley to get them all going because it was too cold for me to get out of a nice warm bed to investigate. :lol: Probably just a skunk wandering through the neighborhood. Good thing that we shut that back door when it is so cold because our dogs would go out and probably get sprayed if the skunk was in our yard. We have a locking screen which is great in warm weather to be able to have the door open. The doggie door is in the locking screen bottom but the cold air does leak through the screen part at the top. We have been looking for a rack that will carry a jerry can and a high lift jack and found that Smitty Built has just the one. It will mount on the rear spare tire rack along with the tire. There is a way to lock these things on so they can’t be stolen easily. Instead of wing nuts those locking nuts are great for one needs a special tool to get them off. We will have to remember to tell our insurance agent of our upgrades so they will be covered in our policy. :yes: Will just left to go to a re-in-actors meeting and I imagine he will come home having been voted in as their Sheriff. The group re-in-acts different gun fights and other interesting happenings that have formed our western history times. There is quite a large number of folks that attend these functions and are interested in the history of what shaped our country. The folks that do the acting research their character and do their best to give a true performance of what transpired. Some of their performances have been filmed and used on TV on the history channel showing what really transpired in the old west. The way it really was and not what most movies have portrayed it to be. It is interesting just what the role was that prostitutes played in history times. There were ones that were nurses and school teachers and such. They did what they thought they needed to do to survive, I guess, for the times were tough. Will is doing some research on them for a friend that is an author and writing a book on the way the west was ~ really was ~ historically speaking. Ladies of the night and how they survived is quite an interesting part of our history. Cecil is funny. He doesn’t use his butt hutt which sits in my office anymore so Will dumped a container of kitty litter in a bit of a hole in the back yard and that is his spot to do his business. I imagine when the snow flies and covers the yard he will be using his inside butt hutt once again and my job of scooping it clean each day will resume. I have left it sitting where it is because he jumps on it then onto his table where his food is. He is fed up there because otherwise the dogs would eat his food for he doesn’t eat it all in one setting. Good morning girls. It is freezing cold here this morning but at least no precipitation or driving will be a disaster to go to the commissary this morning. People here can't drive on dry, sunny roads let alone hazardous ones.
I was at the hair salon all morning then got home and had a bunch of chores so never did get in here. My hair looks cute again, my blood sugar this morning was in the normal range, I am not in pain at the moment so all is right with the world! :D I told you back when I had my mammogram the lady didn't know what she was doing and sure enough. I got a referral from my doctor yesterday in the mail. I have to go back and have it done over. I just hope the woman I usually have does it so I don't have to go back a third time. I hope I start losing weight again soon. I am trying to be patient knowing I probably have to adjust to my meds and such, but staying on plan and not seeing results is frustrating. I will just hang in there and I am sure it will right itself soon. Maggie: I have an online account with Splenda, but haven't perused it in a long time so will have to go in and look and see. Like I said, I try and avoid having a lot of sweets for myself in the house, even SF ones so I don't eat them insted of what I am supposed to eat. It is snowing as I type but not hard but blowing. It wasn’t in the forecast so I guess it won’t amount to anything anyway. It is 32° and chilly for sure. We went to lunch with a doctor friend again today and I had my favorite shrimp cooked on the Barbie with half a baked sweet potato that I only put some cinnamon on and a salad that I dipped my fork in but at it mostly dry. My meal was delicious and OP. Not much going on here this day but church services. We will be going out to Applebee’s for dinner afterward and I can choose something yummy off their menu with the WW designation and stay OP. DONNA FAYE No our dogs don’t wear sweaters. We had one long ago for Ragg Mopp for he looked so cute in it when he was a puppy but the cat at the time kept taking it off of him. I am sure they don’t need them for they are perfectly warm in their skin. Good Evening, Flowers! Another cold day in my corner of the world, 7 degrees this morning and it made it up to 23 this afternoon. The sunshine makes such a difference even though the wind is blowing. We spent the morning at church but there was only one service at 10. We had to be greeters and then stayed for a ham, chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, macaroni salad, and bars/cookies dinner. It was very good and especially so since I didn't have to fix it nor clean up afterwards! For some reason I'm tired today, perhaps from being gone all day yesterday. The party included 6 boys who had spent the night so lots of activity. Beth and I went to a Christmas store, and I bought a little girl with a snow cat figurine. It was one of those purchases on a whim but I love it -- need to find a place to put it so I can enjoy it but it won't get broken. Bob is putting the Christmas tree up as I type. Since we didn't put it up last year I was a little concerned what Sonny might do but he has totally ignored it so far. Ernie likes to sleep under it; it's big so there is room for two. :D
"Gma" -- Do you think once your body gets stabilized that you might be able to take oral meds instead of the injections, or perhaps none at all as you lose weight? :dunno: For some reason I thought you were starting with the oral kind. I'm glad you are feeling better today! I'm sorry about the mammogram snafu; if it's the same tech, I'd ask for a different one! :yes: I'm sure you will start losing again once your body adjusts to the changes. Maggie -- Will you have to plan things for your brother-in-law to see and do, or is he content to just enjoy your company and visit at home? I'm sorry about the barking dogs the other night; I hope they were inside last night! I fed the deck cat in the carrier this morning and plan to shove her on in tomorrow morning. I don't think she is the same one I took a few weeks ago although the markings are pretty much the same. Good morning everyone! For us it is :brr: here this morning in the low 20's and only supposed to be in low 30's for highs today. I think we are going to have a cold winter everywhere this year.
Last night and this morning I tore out the sweater I made for the cruise that was too big. I going to reprint the pattern and start it over for next year. Hopefully I will have enough yarn for a smaller size. I emailed the head of operations at the clinic because of questions I was asked on Friday. I believe all this is because of the new computers and program they have now. I was asked things like my sexual orientation, did we own guns, were we sexually active, did he wear a condom, how many partners have we had, etc. They had no prior information on me that would indicate any STD's or Aids or whatever to even ask some of the stuff and the others were plain none of their business. I was in pain so just answered them not even thinking about privacy, but got home and realized I think some of this is illegal to ask and if not the least they should do is say they are going to ask questions you have the right to refuse to answer. We shall see if I hear back from him. I am not even sure he is still the head over there. Lots of cleaning to try and get done today since we have the holiday this week. We aren't having anyone here at our house, but I want to get some outside stuff done this weekend since Jack is off on Friday if the weather is nice. It is supposed to rain here today and tomorrow so the leaves may again be too wet to get blown out and things cleaned up. If not, it is shampooing carpets since we haven't shampooed since Fortune died. Jean: They originally mentioned just oral, but when we went to the meeting she said they were going to put me on both. Yes, I can be taken off everything if I can show my blood sugar stays where it should be for a long period of time. I imagine it will be at least a year before that would occur, though yesterday and today I am already in a good blood sugar level and between yesterday and today it dropped some more. They say your blood sugar should be under 130 if you are fasting, ie overnight and you test in the morning before eating and 2 hours after eating it should be under 180. I only test once a day, first thing in morning before I eat. Yesterday it was 125 and this morning 116 so I believe the meds really were the issue. They are supposed to call and check on me today so we shall see what they have to say. Sounds like lunch was a winner. I have gone to a combo of the exchanges and WW. What I do is eat what my exchanges are, but count them within pts so I can make sure I don't eat too many calories. I hope the combo will help me start losing weight. For example, this morning I had half whole wheat eng muffin, 1 tbl jalepeno cr cheese, 1 serving grapefruit sections. That is 3 ww pts, which with ww pts being 50 cal for each pt I can know how many calories I am consuming. The three are 1starch, 1fat, 1 fruit, which is what I am allowed for breakfast exchanges. The reason is for example, you can have half eng muffin, any kind as 1 starch exchange, but you can also have 1 pancake which is one exchange. They don't necessarily have the same calorie or fat count so that may be why my weight is not moving. I am not gaining but not losing either. Maggie: Fortune always wore sweaters in the winter, but he could easily work them off rolling around on the bed or stuff like that. He would stick his little neck out and lift his paw when I would go to put his sweater on. I sure do miss him when I think of things like that. I hope you have a lovely visit with your bil. I know he will enjoy it. Gotta get going. I need to make some vinegar coleslaw this morning so it can "marinate" and be good for tonight's veg. Have a great start to the week. Faye |
