they just arrested a man in Toronto for the murder and dismemberment of a ten year old girl {about six weeks ago} a horrifying case------while looking for the murderer,it was revealed that there were TWO HUNDRED know sex offenders in the urban neighbourhood surrounding the girl's home------urban/residential area. The man charged with the murder is a 35 year old single man who has a good job with an international software company------------the parents in the neighbourhood are still in shock that they are virtually surrounded by known to police perverts-------------how do we solve that one???? i say castration works for me.

Lush 06-23-2003 01:31 PM

i agree with castration.
in fact, WE agree with castration. i believe that since i am right, wabby and sugar will agree.
paint, i'm not being ignorant. i use all lower case because i hurt my rt arm, hand, wrist, or/and shoulder and can't type with that hand. one handed typing is unbearable enough without the pressure of the shift key. that is why no one is rude to my face about it.
did you know dd and i are meeting my cousin and her kids in nyc to see 'the lion king' (she and peaches don't speak due to a sorded incedent between sissy and our cousin' 8th grade boyfriend)
sissy, the clerk in winn dixie wasn't ******ed, we haven't been using that sort of derisive term since 1968......when you were 30 and i was in my teens.
in nj, we have megan's law which requires sex offenders to register. they now have the problem that they cant release people from jail because they can't find a safe place for them. breajks my heart.
gotta go

Kiwonk 06-23-2003 05:48 PM

That's right, Lush, the proper term is 'tard.

200 sex offenders in the same area? That is unbelievable. What are they doing, settling them all in the same place? I predict home prices will be really low there real soon.

I've been the Dr. for my annual physical. Which is the first annual physical I've had in about 10 years. It was very productive: I got free drugs, a new interesting disease, and appointments for all kinds of expensive tests! Isn't that great?

I got samples of Relpax for migraines. And plantar fasciitis, which means my feet hurt. And I get to have a blood panel or whatever for cholesterol screening, and a chest x-ray for my incessant cough, and a couple of ultrasounds for my retinal ischemia. I have a fun summer planned.

Nah, there is nothing much wrong with me. He informed me that my blood pressure was fine and my husband should stop smoking. So I went out and rent 3 movies to celebrate.

My head still hurts and I have to wait until my Excedrin Migraine wears off to try the new stuff, I suppose.

Kiwi, a modern medical marvel

Cowpernia 06-23-2003 06:18 PM

I am very glad that Kiwi is fine. Lushcooter can hi to Cousin It for me if she so chooses. You not that young, by the way, it just seemed you were. Still does.

Quote:

we would all feel much better if we didn't have the sense that you're out there living a real life when you aren't with us
No need to worry about that, Lush. Unless you consider cleaning house, doing laundry, getting my nails done and watching videos living life to the fullest. :halffull:

Quote:

I think castration would be more humane than what we are doing to sex-related ex-convicts.
I have a hard time worrying about being humane to sexual predators. I think a condition of parole should be drug therapy to control their urges. Chemical castration.

Hey Kiwi, welcome to my life. The reason I go to the Dr. so much is that I went for a check up about 5 years ago and it started the snowball effect. I've never heard of Relpax for migraines. I love my Zomig. It's the only thing I've ever taken that didn't make me feel strange and gets rid of the migraine almost every time. Exedrin Migraine is just ibuprofen with caffeine added. I don't want to be that wide awake for my migraines. :tired:

I love to go to garage sales. I hate to have them. Besides, my junk really is junk. Nobody would want it. DH, who is the world's messiest, was telling me that he never gave me a bad time for leaving stuff around. Like when I didn't wind up the hose. Ha! this from the man who has no idea how to put a dish in the dishwasher or pick up his socks off the floor. I seem to have started to ramble. Now what was the subject???

I've been cooking such healthy stuff. Yesterday I made grilled chicken breasts on the bbq and steamed asparagus. DH took his chicken, put it on a bun w/ a ton of mayo, drizzled olive oil on his asparagus then grilled it, then put butter on it. And he wonders why he keeps gaining when he's eating the same stuff I do. Which reminds me - I'm so sick of this, I just can't even begin to tell you. I really want something gooey with lots of cheese or cream sauce. Then I think of how holier than DH I feel and I get ahold of myself.:s:

Cowpernia 06-23-2003 07:26 PM

speaking of unhealthy urges, I have heard that at his recent 21st birthday party, a costume party, Prince William wore only a loin cloth. Has Letty no influence over these people anymore!!! What a complete lack of taste. Fit for the royal family, I guess though.

Kiwonk 06-23-2003 11:10 PM

Well, I took the stuff about an hour ago or so, and my headache is sort of gone, so's most of the nausea. My head feels really heavy. It's an improvement.

What movie should I watch tonight? I have Chasing Amy, Catch Me If You Can, and Saving Private Ryan. I think I'm in the mood for a caper.

Kiwi

PainterWoman 06-24-2003 01:44 AM

Even if I did measure the wrong direction, I still wouldn't be tall enough for this weight.

Most of the teen sex offenders I "worked" with (I use the term loosely) had been victimized themselves. I say MOST. And there are plenty of other sex crime victims who don't turn into offenders. There was one kid though who really got to me.... His father left him alone in the car with his little sister while the father went and picked up women in bars and/or got drunk. (From age 9 to about 14 this happened on a regular basis.) The father molested the teen, shared his porn collection.... I'm sure I didn't even get the whole story. It didn't take a genius to figure that the teen thought is was status quo to molest the little sister. God only knows what happened to the mother that made is so the dad had custody. He propositioned me (!) during a family therapy session. I wish they could all be outfitted with beepers, flashing lights and chastity belts... Some were flat out sociopaths, too and compassion would have been wasted on them.

what I wonder is if there have always been people this twisted on the planet, or if it's related to some environmental degredation (ozone, smog, whatever), or if civilization is deteriorating a la the Roman Empire, or if because of Rupert Murdoch et al, we just hear about it more.

Kiwi...fascitis is miserable. Too much walking?! Aging is a tough row to hoe. Hope your new meds work.

Lush 06-24-2003 08:35 AM

aren't we deep. i think that the rights of children and other powerless groups suffer in most 'stressed' societies. is that because of the emotional strain rapid change causes or is it due to the stress on the environment? probably both.

the harry potter book is good. i'm enjoying it.

i think i'll go to wally world. bye

This is the problem with America. People like you, Sis, YOU are selling out to the big buck guys. My office mate has a book store, The Dogpatch Book Store, and people preordered Harry Potter stuff by the carload. Then .... when it was available they called to say they were getting it at WalMart where it was cheaper. The tapes were $75 I think she said. Did you pay that??? You should have. I'm telling mom.

Also, they're for sale at Sam's for cheaper than she had to pay Scholastic for them.

There have been sex offenders in the U.S. for generations. I've heard about one in my family who married a woman who had a dd and then had kids with both. The dd was a kid herself. Probably tribes in the jungle don't do this sort of thing. Lush, you remember this story don't you? I think Cousin It was named for him.

Here is my wish list:

round dinette table and four chairs

sofa that goes with red, green, blue plaid overstuffed chairs

iron bed for ds

wardrobe for ds

new mattresses for all

Here is my secondary wish list:

new computer table

washer/dryer front loading

whole new bedroom suite for me

lamps

Bagzz 06-24-2003 11:23 AM

i will get her the new bedroom ensuite--what are you all sending her for her housewarming?????????

Kiwonk 06-24-2003 11:46 AM

WALMART SUXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Just in case anyone wanted to know my opinion.

They're a bunch of fascists, stomping into town and grinding little stores under their heels, making deals that suppliers can't refuse and then putting grampas at the doorway to say howdy to you as you file obediently in.

I got a new nightshirt off eBay (brand new in the package for $5.50) -- it's got
C O W I E S !! on it!

I don't have a migraine anymore! Yay, new drugs!

Kiwi

Kiwonk 06-24-2003 11:49 AM

Peaches, you don't want much, do you? I'm sending DH's armoire, that'll be good.

Bagzz 06-24-2003 12:34 PM

KIWI--- i am so glad you have found some migraine relief!!! what is the name of your drug again??? i need to try something------------THIS PERIMENOPAUSE IS DRIVING ME NUTS---- i just bought Christiane {??} Northrup's book on menopause and it is describing my mercurial moods to a teeeeeeeeeee------------i could chew shoe leather and spit it out {at everyone]

Wabby 06-24-2003 12:36 PM

We don't have a Wally World in my little suburb, but they're working on it. The city council is fighting it over a technicality. First they refused them because their building design didn't fit our town (big parking lot out front is a big no no, must have street and pedestrian friendly frontage), now because they want 2 extra acres that are zoned residential changed to commercial. Wally has a lot more money than our little town does to pay for lawyers, so we'll see who wins. Even though I object to Wally world on principal, I'd probably slink in there every once in awhile for the cheap deals. But not on books. Bookstores need a certain ambiance. Kinda like DH has his favorite auto parts store, where everything costs twice as much, but we're friends with the guy who owns the place and all the guys hang out on saturday mornings there. Can you believe how long I can blather on about this???

Wabby 06-24-2003 01:01 PM

Whattya think about Joan Lunden's new babies? Like going to the pet store and picking out a couple of darling cocker spaniels? I get the whole surrogate mother thing when women can't have babies themselves, but this Grandma age celebrity buying babies bothers me. Why not foster kids who have no options if you want more kids in your life? I suppose that wouldn't contribute to the illusion that Joan's still in her thirtys?

Kiwonk 06-24-2003 02:21 PM

Support your local anti-Walmart campaign!

Our town is in such desperate straits that even WalMart doesn't want to move here. That's okay with me, of course, but I do wish we could support a bookstore, or a clothing store. Sad little place. Used to be a bustling center of activity. Oh well. Maybe someday it will revive.

Yeah, Bagz, it's pretty thrilling to have migraine relief! It's called Relpax. Well, I'd better go check that: yep Relpax. generic name "eletriptan Hbr" 40 mg. Good stuff. You can only take 1, and if it works but the pain comes back in a few hours, you can take one more. But you can't take more if the first one doesn't work. Seriously. anyway.

Oh by the way, I gained 10 lbs driving to the doctor's office. The good news is I apparently lost it on the way home (phew!)

DD got a whole package full of photos back today, so I'm including one here (sorry, don't have a pic of my lasagne garden yet--today I made little umbrellas :rain: for my lettuce plants because they were getting too much sun  -- I'm certifiable) that I call "my idea of a flower garden". Note the attractive "mulch" (i.e. unraked leaves)

Kiwi

Cowpernia 06-24-2003 05:19 PM

you are all apparently nuts. Still, I welcome the gifts. Thank you. The flowers are BEAUTIFUL and Wabby's town sounds just soooo cute. It's what Dogpatch wishes it were, I imagine. That is, if one personifies a town and then the town wishes something.

Yeah, if you're furnishing a virtual house, we'll be a big help.

Just so you know, those are my flowers. I want credit for them. If and when Bagz (or anyone else) sends me her pics, I will post her flowers.

It is so hot here today, I'm all, um, dewy. :df:

Kiwi: Your daffodils are very pretty. And the mulch ;) has obviously kept the weeds down. My hibiscus is blooming so much it qualifies as histrionic. If I can figure how to post a picture, I'll get the photo tomorrow.

Wabby: Agreement here on Walmart and aging women who apparently "forgot" to have children. There are so many children who could use a friend, let alone a foster or adoptive parent.

I short circuited perimenopause with a sudden hysterectomy in 2000. Good news is that partial HRT removed all symptoms... even moodiness. My sympathies to all who are suffering. That Dr. Northrup is a whiz, isn't she?

Well, I need to hit the sack. I'm supposed to be up bright eyed and bushy tailed to go to a local Chamber of Commerce networking meeting in the morning. And the friend I'm going with is depending on ME for a wake up call. :joker:

Cowpernia 06-25-2003 07:16 AM

Before I blow my top (which Bagz is no doubt waiting for) who the **** is Joan Lunden?

I have another phenomenal story for y'all since you were so excited about the woman who went to heaven. In Dogpatch (and maybe other areas of the U.S. but NOT Canada because ... you know) people participated in Operation Ziplock. They took big two-gallon or whatever-gallon ziplock bags and put deoderant, phone cards, soap, whatever in them to send to the troops in Iraq. I didn't because I thought the government wouldn't let them be without that stuff but maybe I was wrong.

Anyhow, in Dogpatch, one of the elementary schools did this and the kids put notes and pictures in the bags. They got back four letters so far from men or women who got the bags. One of the letters (sing Twilight Zone theme here) was from the dad of two of the kids in the school.

Did Oregonians, Mainians, Joisians send these bags or did they all come from Dogpatch so it's no wonder?

Bagzz 06-25-2003 10:23 AM

imagine not knowing who the self-serving,aristocratic,horseback riding,horse-faced,crone of an ex-Good Morning America host is-------even this poor sars infected ,mad cowwed canadian can tell you that---i have pics kiwi---too lazy to download at this time---xoxoxox my, everyone is looking fat today.

Kiwonk 06-25-2003 01:12 PM

Can't say I didn't try

Well, I tried to sign up to send stuff to a soldier, but I never got a response. When I looked into it, you had to have a name and address of a particular soldier, because they would no longer accept packages to Any Soldier the way they used to (because of terrorism). So, no, I haven't done that. I would expect that the organization that collected those ziplocs in your town already knew exactly who they were sending them to. Maybe the kid's father was even the contact for the mailing, did anyone ask?

DD reminds me that she should get credit for the daffodil picture -- she took the pictures because I was going to NC when the flowers were blooming and I wanted to at least see pics of them.

Bagz, you're a hoot. In case that still didn't make sense to you, Peaches, Joan Lunden used to be all SuperMom I'm-So-Cute Blonde Anchor at Good Morning Amer. and she had other shows after that. She had a whole slew of kids then. None of them looked like her. I hadn't heard anything about her new granny-age mommy period, but I will go look it up so I can make fun of her too.

SugP 06-25-2003 03:05 PM

Holding out for pictures of the lasagne garden.
:D

No, the truth is that I'm too boring to post. Haven't a thing to say.

Kiwonk 06-25-2003 03:55 PM

How's the weather in Germany? It's beastly hot here. DH put the a/c unit in the bedroom last night, so at least sleeping is possible. But yuk, I don't want to do anything it's so hot. And I really have to help dd do laundry, label stuff and pack. I have to admit it is nice to have her old enough (and willing enough!) to do her own laundry a lot of the time. Still, we have a long ways to go before she's ready to leave. (We're leaving Saturday)

I watched Catch Me If You Can the other night. That was a lot of fun. I got the DVD, which had a lot of other material on it, which was also fun to watch. About the real guy.

Last night DH and I watched Saving Private Ryan. I hadn't seen it before. Wow, that was some intense movie! For a war movie, it was really good.

We tried to watch Chasing Amy with DD, but we had to turn it off when the dialog got wayyyyyy too graphic. Oy. Very funny movie, if you don't mind a little gender bending. I haven't finished watching it though.

My head hurts again. Probably because I don't feel like eating anything that exists in my house. If someone would bring me some potato salad, I'd eat that. Jello sounds good. Weird.

Kiwi

Darling_Peaches 06-25-2003 04:21 PM

I'm told here at work that Joan Lunden is a woman who used to do "in-depth" stories by putting herself in jail or flying in a jet, always with perfect hair and pearls. She considered herself more interesting she really was, I'm told.

The USO collected and distributed the bags. Call 'em Kiwi. I know they're probably not named Kiwi but what the heck.

I need an oatmeal sofa. Sis?

Wabby 06-25-2003 06:37 PM

Boy, Dogpatch really is like another country if you don't know who Joan Lunden is. She had 3 kids from her previous marriage (I think they were conceived in the usual way), and now that she's 52 she has a new younger husband (42) and since they weren't able to conceive in the conventional method they went out and got themselves a surrogate mother and made themselves a couple of babies. I'm not going to comment any more on this because apparently I'm getting a reputation as a troublemaker.... my letter to the editor was published about the "improvements" the city has made to the street where our business is located. The lead in was "letter savages the Molalla Ave. improvements".... geez, it was the mildest savaging I've ever written  I love being a DAMe. :D

We had a big campaign here to send care packages to the troops. It was a deal where you could buy a toiletries package from the local Avon lady, who would then send it overseas. I had a feeling it was a good way for the Avon lady to sell her stuff. My friend's daughter is in Iraq still. She asked for photos of Oregon to be emailed to her because she said she wants to remember what the color green is like, because everything there is tan. I should ask if they really need care packages of toiletries. Probably the army doesn't send sweetly scented toiletries.

Sugar, you are not too boring to post. I'm boring and yet look how long I can ramble on. Think of something that bugs you and write a letter to the editor.

Kiwi, lovely daffodils - that's something I always mean to plant more of, but it's always cold and rainy when it's time to plant them. I'm a fair weather yardworker.

Tonight's WW weigh in night. Keep yer fingers and toes crossed for me! actually I weighed at home and according to my scales I stayed the same, but I can hope that the official WW scales will see things differently.

Kiwonk 06-25-2003 08:14 PM

Totally cool, Wabbit savages the locals! I'm psyched!

52, huh? So she'll be collecting SS before they're in highschool. I'm not impressed. Just because you have potloads of money doesn't make you a good parent. They couldn't conceive? How shocking! You'd think with all the plastic surgery, her ovaries would be embarrassed into producing, wouldn't you?

I'm bad and I'm glad.

i ate wheat today and aren't i sorry. i have a belly ache.

i'm almost to the end of harry potter. i'm about 24 hrs into it/ 3 more to go.

remember when joan lunden was fat??????

sugar, who cares if you're boring??? that's never stopped anybody around here.

wabby i hope you had good news tonight. do you think it will rub off on the rest of us?

the deatheaters are moving in. now i have to stay up and listen....

btw.... our wonderful bookstore finally fell under the combined weight of borders and barnes and noble. now the closest one is in phila.

Bagzz 06-26-2003 09:11 AM

what are the deatheaters???? do you know the fateaters-----i have been trying your avoidance of simple carbs --sugar in general lush, and i find that after a while you actually lose your craving for it----amazing-----the things that i can't control myself with----crackers,nacho chips and potato chips--------they are sort of losing their appeal----don't worry,i am sure this is VERY temporary!!!!keep being bad,wab and Ki-------- i adore it!!!

Cowpernia 06-26-2003 09:17 AM

Sugar knows she's not boring. She just doesn't want to post. There's a wonderful movie that we checked out of the library about mutiny on a slave slip ... starts with an "A"...and in this movie the queen of Spain, who thinks the slaves are hers, is nine years old and shown jumping up and down on her bed. That's Sugar. She'll post when she's good and ready. She's our little baby queen.

I went to Fly's site yesterday to read about how to pack. I was sure she'd have detailed information including what shoes to wear and where to set the timer. But she didn't!! She had "tips" from other people that included breaking down the boxes afterwards and selling them; don't move anything you don't love; label the boxes. I was very disappointed. I need someone to tell me things like how much of ds's school work do I keep forever and how much can I sell his bunkbed for. (planning on selling it while he's away for three weeks. hehe)

Today is MY DAY OFF and I appreciate some company.

Updates: the boy who rubbed the three-year-olds bottom goes to court in July and we'll never hear anything about that.

The woman who went to heaven was invited to church with a woman in my office who now says, "I'm never asking anybody to come to my church again."

I really miss my sissy. If she would come to Dogpatch, I could show her all around. She would feel thin here. I promise. Clothing stores here are 1/2 size 14 and down and 1/2 16 and up and the 14 and down side is where they put the shoes and jewelry.

Remember I AM HOME TODAY. Post please!!!

I'm going to go look for Wabby's letter to the editor on the internet. I am rather shocked that she writes these letters.

Lush 06-26-2003 09:52 AM

i'm home today,too.

i finished hp, it was good.

my way of movvvving is to get a dumpster. then go to grainger.com and order proper boxes with proper tape. use towels, old clothes but most important tissue paper to pack...if you use newspaper, you'll have to wash everything. , . put as much as you possibly can in the dumpster......remember kiwi's yard sale.

move to your new place junk free. start fresh.

i need to go to wawa to get milk. it doesn't seem to matter whrn i last bought milk.......there is never any here in the morning.

Sheesh, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it's not a slippery slope to ghost town like this place.

Pretty colors there Peachiepoo. Amistad -- I saw that.
My suggestion: call a used stuff dealer and ask him what he'd give for the bunk beds. And of course, keep everything from DS school. Just kidding.

Bad news around here: one of DD's friends lost her brother yesterday. It seems he was hiking on the mountain (in the 90 degree heat!?!), he sat down to rest and died. He was about 16 or so. It's horrible. This poor family was getting ready to move to another town a few hours away because the father has been working there for a couple of months (lost his job here along with everybody else) and the mother had just gotten a new job; they have 2 other boys and the daughter (she's the one who sings with DD). What a nightmare.

Kiwi

Cowpernia 06-26-2003 12:03 PM

Kiwi that is soooo sad to hear. Another reminder of how precious our children are. Big hugs to everybody.

Bagzz 06-26-2003 12:56 PM

kiwi--that is so terrible---one of my friend's daughters has a girlfriend whose 16 year old brother died in a car accident [a needless one,---two other cars were playing chicken on a deserted highway and he just happened to be driving by when they were trying to pass each other] long story short---this poor child is still devastated by her brother's death-----it is horrifying for the parents, but the poor siblings have a terrible time of it as well-----------------your sweet dd will do her best to help that's for certain----do you think it was heat exhaustion? take care,i know you will be busy helping out yourself xxoxoxox

Lush 06-26-2003 01:15 PM

eeeekkkkk. by 16 it seems we should be home free with these kids. can you imagine getting that phone call or knock on the door? the effect of the loss of a sibling is terrible because in a way, they lose a part of their parents, too.

we should have a second installment of that list, by now.

Cowpernia 06-26-2003 01:39 PM

nag

Lush, isn't it near the time that your old friend, Estelle, is due to be released from prison? You don't think she's still holding a grudge do you? Did you ever visit her like you promised?

Done list:

*showered
*cleaned off bookcase to the left
*put comforter in washer

Next list:
*Go find a BIG box and put big papers init
*clear off bookcase to the right
*take the new throw-it-out stuff out to the garbage

I have a really old set of World Book that my friend at the bookstore gave me years ago because it was useless to sell. We've used it maybe three times because somethings never change. What should I do with it?

*take it?
*send it to friend's yard sale?
*toss it?

I can't make all these decisions alone.

Kiwonk 06-26-2003 02:38 PM

Oh cripe! I just burned the daylights out of my teakettle (well, I wasn't going to stay in there waiting for it in this heat  ) Damn.

I don't think they are sure exactly what happened to the boy; apparently they are going to do an autopsy. The kid who was hiking with him had gone on ahead (they had already reached the peak and were on their way down), and then doubled back to look for him. He wasn't where he had left him, and the rangers eventually found him. I'm not sure whether he had left the trail or what, but he obviously wasn't on the path down, so that indicates mental confusion due to dehydration or heat stroke or something. It's just heart-breaking.

We have an old World Book set too, Peaches. Personally I would keep it, just to have. I wouldn't dream of buying a new set of encyclopedias, but sometimes it's a good source for basic stuff.

But then, I keep everything, so what good is my advice?
