Afternoon all.

Shad - Your DS1's partner sounds like a piece of work, but like Michelle said, if she's fashioning herself after those housewives shows and the Kardashians, it's no wonder. Take a deep breathe and thank heavens it's temporary for you. Little S. is just such a gorgeous baby - those big baby blues!!! :)

Mel - Glad you're having some quiet nights, and it is thanks to the "alarmists" being out of the building!!! :D OMG, can't imagine having casino and other field trips with that group you've got!!!

Ceejay - Nice you got the lawn taken care of. I need bf to weed wack the area behind our one long flower border. It used to be shrubs, but we removed those when we installed the fence and now it gets REALLY weedy. What I really want to do is lay down a heavy layer of something that will keep the weeds away and that doggy can run along easily (he likes walking along the fence). Last year I used weed cloth and it didn't work out very well. Gosh, I sure hope the neighbor's grandson causing all the trouble by your house goes home soon - what a troublemaker!!

Michelle - Sounds like you and Santa had a great weekend! I'm so glad you're spending so much time with your family and friends these days - just what you needed! :)

Happy - Oh I totally get your mom driving you bonkers. I usually only have short visits with her and it doesn't take long to get me nutty. Driving somewhere with her.... oy! I'm thankful that her habit is to retire somewhat early to her bedroom to watch her tv shows, so I do get good amounts of alone time to chill out and read and watch tv. Glad the cats are settling in nicely. :) Glad the umbrella didn't cause serious damage to the house!

Annie - Good job setting up the Roth IRA!! We're gonna need every penny we save, and then some with the way things are going in this country. I'm so glad you have C to comfort you when you're sad - what a great hubby you have.
==
Nothing much to report. Bf and I watched a dvr'd movie last night - "A Serious Man". It's a Coen brothers movie, so of course it was goofy and darkly funny.

We finally had some pizza - yum.

I went to Jazzercise this morning. Back at home after my shower, I had a nice long chat with a friend. She has time off this week until she starts her new job, but some medical issues have come up with her FIL and her own mom, so there's no time to get together face-to-face this week. We're trying to plan a breakfast or lunch in the next few weeks with the other gals.

Bf and I are going to see the movie "The Heat" with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy later today. I've heard it's funny and I'm looking forward to it.

Have to get over to Costco to order my contact lenses. Can't order them over the phone because I don't pay with an AMEX card. Grrr.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to an AM WW meeting in my area. Don't want to miss any meetings if I don't have to. Plus I need a reality check - eating too much and no tracking going on. Well, I've done it so far today...but haven't since probably last Wednesday.

Rainy day today, which is good cuz we needed it. I pulled a ton of weeds in my veg patch yesterday and laid a bunch of newpaper over the bare dirt, and laid some stepping stones and brick over that. Hope that keeps the weeds down. That'll teach me not to bother with weed cloth. I don't like the extra step, but it certainly helps in the veg patch. Gonna try something different to amend the soil. I really think the weed seeds are in the mushroom compost I spread in there each spring.

I transplanted another sedum plant yesterday - it was totally being smothered by the ever-multiplying daylilies. I also decided I'm going to completely dismantle the hodge-podge flower bed adjacent to the veg garden - it's so overgrown, it's like a jungle. I'd love to post a craiglist ad telling people they could have whatever they dig out - choose from daylilies, peonies, iris, phlox, etc., but I doubt there'd be any takers. So I'll do it myself. Tempted to do it ASAP, but not sure this is the best time. I do want to try and relocate the phlox. The height of the summer is likely not the best time to do it.

I've also decided to see if the south side of the house is a better spot for growing veggies. I always thought the tall cedar fence would create too much shadow, but I'm not positive how much sun that area does or doesn't get. Have to do several checks throughout the day (on a sunny day, of course) to see if it gets the sun longer than our current veg patch. Otherwise I was thinking of planting hosta there. It would block weeds better than the gravel does.

Okay, enough rambling. Have a great day everyone!

annie175 07-08-2013 08:21 PM

LAURA....we have had NO rain, at least in my neck of the woods since SAT nite...Thank you JESUS...My garden is overly happy. Will probably get some rain tonite or tomorrow. bleh....hoping my zucchini can recover...will take some sun shiny days.

Took my momma's suggestion when I was younger and rubbed WD40 in my ankle and knee. WHAT the H*LL was I waiting for, I could do a marathon. This stuff is amazing for joint/arthritis pain...just do it. Yeah, it stinks, but the outcome overweighs the stink. Why I waited is beyond me.

Just Sayin"

Evening all,
Where do I begin with the continuing soap opera as Mel so aptly put it.
Last night poor little devil continued chucking up - I am almost positive it is something they are feeding her. I keep annoying them by calling it force feeding. They will persist in continuing to feed her even when she is crying and putting her hands over her face and turning her head away. Anyway after the second large chuck last night where we had to wash absolutely everything within a 4 foot range, I managed to persuade them not to give her any more of the veges they pulled out of some strange pack and gave them a small amount of stewed apples I had done that afternoon. I only put apples, small qty of water (just enough to cover the bottom of the pan) and a couple of spoons of low GI sugar plus the juice of a lemon. Took a few minutes but then she loved it. We fed it until she decided on no more and then let her loose on the plastics container from Grannies cupboard. No more sickness for the night - she was fine. Breakfast this morning was fine. However they took her into the city today, feed her in a café and within a few minutes up it all came again. It has got to be something she is eating. Maybe the vege concoction is not agreeing with her. I think there are teeth coming as well

To add to that, my paranoid neighbour turned up for a chat and apparently he and she are not getting on and she is convinced he is stealing money from her. He is insulted - as only a Spaniard can be. She on the other hand is accusing him of telling lies and trying to get people to believe she is schizophrenic. It's an interesting world I live in.

Following the 'he' neighbour and before the 'she' neighbour, my ex rung up in a panic because he couldn't figure out how to work the DS2's washing machine. Not used to a front loader. So off I went to rescue him, brought him round here, sorted the washing and set it going then put him to work pruning some trees. I'm no idiot. I didn't want him sitting around whinging. Then I told him I heard the washer finish so he should get around there and hang it out. What???? oh okay. Did he really think I would do it for him??? Just after 3pm I declared it beer o'clock and went in for a well earned rest, a wine and some nibbles. Geez I am a hero!!!! Finally DS2 came home and asked if we had been playing nicely in the same sand pit. I saw the joke, the ex didn't and tried to explain everything at about 3000 words per minute. DS2 and I haven't stopped laughing yet.

So I have showered and got into my pj's and am awaiting the kids and babes return home. I might just go and warm up some more apples. Sometimes grandma's actually do know something.

Now let's see what some of you have been up to.

Annie - the whirlwind. It is hard not to be sad from time to time, especially when you are doing something that reminds you of times gone by. You will be fine. Well done on providing for your future. If you don't, who will?

Michelle - it is so great to have you so upbeat and apparently happy since you have been in California.

Mel - sounds like everyone is not playing nicely in your sand pit. Long may it last. Hope Jen is not doing too much and wearing herself out.

Laura - Actually I think thick layers of newspapers are better than the weed mat. That plastic stuff is really bad for the soil underneath and doesn't actually stop the weed seeds from germinating in the brick and rubble. That's why I have to dig those drain/ weed restrainers in the front yard.

Ceejay - Wow, such goings on around you. Stupid kids. Parents don't seem to care much where their kids are these days.

Better go and sort out some dinner for the chickadees when they get home soon. They will be needing something no doubt. Sorry the personals are short, but sometimes it has to be. Happy might be slugging it out with her mama since she hasn't been in yet.

annie175 07-09-2013 07:38 AM

Good Morning My Lovely Chicklets....

Last night was rest and relaxation. C wanted hot dogs and mac n cheese for dinner. Like ok, wow, how easy is that. I did not partake. I instead had a salad. Bleh. Then we watch a few episodes of Smallville.

SHADDIE...sometimes grandma does know what is best for the little tyke. THey must back off on the food as an answer to the wee ones problems. We all know what unnecessary food can do to us...hence. 3FC. No rest for you till they all go home.

Good morning to all the rest of ya's. Will check back later.

Hugs.

annie175 07-09-2013 08:37 AM

Ha ha MELLIE, yeah I only read the expensive magazines. Actually many of them are passed on to me, then I pass them on to others. Only fair I suppose. THe WD40 made all the difference in my ankle today. At least I am not limping nearly as much as I have been in the past two weeks. I added a little Laura Lean angus cooked beef to the macncheese. Actually two leftover burgers from previous dinners. It made it quite tasty as C said. lol. I just got another bunch of magazines from a co-worker, so hope to spread them out in the next week or so. Have an alarm free day my dear sister!!

ceejay52 07-09-2013 09:14 AM

Talked to my neighbor's granddaughter last night. She is just the opposite of her brother. She told me that it was a girl fight the other night. Guess I jumped to conclusions.

Mel
I agree that Shad deserves a crown. I very seldom use the phone to talk any more except to my siblings and my aunt and uncle. My friends like to text.

Annie
I've heard that WD40 was good for joint aches. We got one of those pop up showers yesterday. It was much needed rain.

Laura
I wish I had the opportunity of having a face to face consultation. It would be a lot easier to keep myself accountable. It does help

Happy
Think you deserve a crown this month also. Dealing with company and mom's visit. I love the wild life in your area.

Shad
I agree that it must be a food allergy. It looks like the parents would realize that. My niece's daughter was allergic to dairy products.

------
Nothing happening but work. Think my bff here has found herself a new boyfriend. He's quiet a bit younger than she is so I'm not sure how that will work out. He's single with no children. So far she seems to be enthused about it.

Think I'll do some cleaning downstairs before it gets to hot. Supposed to be 98 degree's today and tomorrow.

annie175 07-09-2013 10:02 AM

CEEG...your bff best be careful, maybe the younger guy is looking for his sugar-momma...lol...of course C is 2.5 years younger than me. Guess I am a cougar. hahahahaha

diyana 07-09-2013 11:31 AM

Good morning ladies -

I woke up at 4 am because my sleep apnea machine stopped working. I thought it was due to a power outage, but the lightswitches worked while the outlets did not. I don't know where the breaker box is in my step-mom's and I didn't want to wake her, so I tried sleeping without my machine. I did not sleep well. I also couldn't curl my hair this morning because I couldn't find an outlet that worked. Oh well. I'll call my step-mom later and let her know what's going on.

I made a yummy dinner of grilled chicken (that I sliced into strips) with grilled veggies (yellow squash, zucchini, onions and peppers) that I served over a big bowl of salad greens! Mmmmm.

==============
Laura - How was the movie "The Heat"? I've heard it was funny. I hope weigh in went well today. Are you off all week?

Annie - I have NEVER heard of rubbing WD40 on sore joints! That's so weird that it works!! I'm glad it gave you relief. Too funny about C being younger than you, making you a cougar!

Shad - I'm so sorry you're having to deal with such a soap opera. I wonder if she is allergic to something in the vege concoction. If they are insistent on veggies, they should try a different one or different combination. Between the "Real" DP of DS1, the he and she neighbors, and your ex, I'd say you had less drama and stress back at work.

Mel - It's good that Jen and Richie are checking up on you. I hope you have another quiet day. :cloud9: Now that you mention peach juice, I remember having that as a kid, along with pear juice. Even the natural juices (not heavy syrup) are yummy. You are right about Santa being a very good boy with all these changes and new environments. He still doesn't like it when I leave. Yesterday, since I worked from home, I didn't have Santa in day care. So when I wanted to go to the gym, I asked my step-brother if he could keep an eye on Santa. He said sure. Santa missed me and barked, and when my step-bro wasn't looking Santa jumped on the living room couch (which is a no-no) to look out the window and wait for my return. Unfortunately, my step-mom came home before I did. She wasn't too mad though. She told Santa to get down off the couch, and he did.

Laura - did you get the seat covers done? If you posted a photo, I think I missed it.

Ceejay - I hope your friend finds happiness with her new man. Have fun housecleaning. I'm glad we aren't getting your heat.

I think most of you ladies (Shad - with DP1, Happy - with her mom, Mel - with the seniors and alarms and government, Ceejay - with neighbor's grandson) deserve a crown. My life seems quite calm and drama-free by comparison, and I'm thankful for that (it's about time! LOL).

Well, I've got to get some work done.

Much love,

annie175 07-09-2013 12:03 PM

CHELLE....wonder if your machine blew the fuse? We just got rid of dad's machine. Funny being a cougar, I couldn't think of the name one day while talking with C and called myself a Cobra....he about laughed his A off at me. Yeah, a real snake...lol I love grilled veggies and those are a few of my favorites and chicken too! Have a groovy day chickie.

diyana 07-09-2013 12:08 PM

Hi Annie - I suppose my CPAP machine for my sleep apnea could've blown a fuse. But the weird thing is, I use it every night and have since I moved here, sometimes with my computer left on overnight and my phone charger and bluetooth charger plugged in. Last night, only my CPAP machine and phone charger were plugged in. Cobra is too funny! LOL

ceejay52 07-09-2013 05:46 PM

Annie
I wouldn't think 2.5 years to be to young at all. My friend is 61 and the new man in her life is 48. To me that's to much age difference. I've jokingly called her a cougar a couple of times. She's seeing dollar signs for sure but I'm not saying anything. The guy is a new car salesman and has a good income. There were 6 years difference in my mom and dad's ages. I almost laughed when she said I can't give him children. He's asked her to go to Eureka Springs in Arkansas which is a tourist type town up in the hills and she wants separate rooms. Don't think he's taking her just to show her the sights.

Michelle
It does sound like you've blown either a fuse or a breaker.

annie175 07-10-2013 07:36 AM

CEEG....my xdh was 15 years older than I. He is now ancient. lol Yes, a guy 48 taking a 61 yr old to the hills is certainly looking for gold! haha

MELODY525 07-10-2013 07:43 AM

MORNING CHICKS

ALSO LAUGHING ABIOUT THE BFF AND HER NEW BEAU.
SO WHO IS USING WHO??
MAYBE HE THINKS SHE HAS MONEY??
OMG!! THANK GOD NO ONE IS CHASING AFTER ME.
I COULDN'T GO THRU THIS ALL AGAIN.

ceejay52 07-10-2013 08:57 AM

Morning all

Mel
I'm wondering about this whole ordeal with the friend. I hope she comes to her senses. But I think the love bug has hit her. She's always backed out of the trips I had planned, where she had planned to go with me. Maybe she will this one too.
I'm not interested in any one chasing after me for sure. I do have a high school friend that seems interested though. It's a long distance friendship. He's moving this Thursday to Carthage, MO. Told me to contact him when I came to visit with my MO sister. He lives in Bartlett, TN.

Annie
Glad some one else sees that he's looking for "gold.

-----------
Got a phone call this morning before work. It was my co-worker telling me that her father in law passed away during the night. I'd been expecting it but not this quickly. Pray that I have the strength to work the over time. I'm getting to old to do this. It always taxes my body. BUT she does it for me.

All times are GMT -4. The time now is 09:23 AM.
