Sandy is /was a huge violent storm from the looks of things on t.v. this morning. Pictures were horrifying. Sure Hope Mel, family and the residents of their building are okay. Infact anyone that was in the path of this storm. Also am thinking of Java. They have gotten a bunch of snow.
Happy The epicenter of the earthquake was in Parkin, Arkansas, between here and Memphis. I heard a huge puff of wind and thought that something had hit the house. It shook for a couple of seconds. I looked outside first to see if something did hit the house. The t.v. was on and saw the message scrolling at the bottom of the screen stating that we had a 3.9 earth quake on the New Madrid fault line. I always keep in mind that I live on top of this fault line. Laura I didn't get the quesadilla's but I did get a nacho bell grande at Taco Belle. It was not good at all. Think my taste buds are changing. Shad Sympathy goes to you and your son's family. Hello's to patty and ellen. More later. |
a quick post. we lost power but it should be on by tomorrow.
the rest of the town will be powerless until monday or later next week. the damages are just to cry for. very sad for so many. but we are well, warm & fed!! hope to see you sooner rather than later. |
Good to hear from you Mel. Glad you and the gang are ok. The pictures we are seeing are heartbreaking.

Hello Ladies,
I feel like I am in meeting all day long, oh wait.. I am..I guess I should feel honored my boss asked me to join this team, but going to meeting 3 days a week and doing my job... I'm not stressed yet, and thankfully I am able to utilize the admin person in our group. Truly Blessed for my job..so I won't complain to much. Mel - Oh, the news is so heartbreaking, I am glad to hear you and your family and your building are ok. I saw the new about the crane that is about to fall over... I don't know why they didn't take that down or lower the boom. Where are you at in NYC? Shad - Sorry to hear about son's partner Mother. That would be a very costly trip, so I can't blame you for staying put. Plus the toll it takes on the body. No, trips planned other than my work meetings. Next week I will be traveling to East Texas.. whoo hoo.. Annie - I hope you are feeling better girl. It's all that gardening work you do..You are always on the go... Ceejay - I didn't realize their was a fault line where you live. See I learned something new today. Glad you were ok. Do you all have a Taco Bueno or Taco Cabana? I prefer them both over Taco Bell. Laura - I tried spag. squash in a casserole and i just loved it. Did you all get any winds? Haven't seen much about Chicago on the news. Happy - Bear, oh my.. I too saw the report about the subway. I wonder how long they will be closed. Are you expecting any treaters tomorrow night? Hopefully no bears.. Mitchellez - Keeping you in my thoughts. I pray that everyday you feel stronger. Were you able to make it to any Haunted Houses? to Ellen |
Back to work today....not feeling it..but here. Glad to hear you are ok Mellie....Chelle..it will get better, I promise. Time heals all wounds...hugs Hello to the rest of you..Hugs

Just a quick hello from the train since I have CPR training this morning.
Mel- saw your post yesterday - so glad you're all fine, and glad you'll get power back sooner rather than later. NJ was hit so hard, so sad. Windy in our area & high waves, but i didn't hear of much damage... TTFN! |
Morning all,
:haphal: - sure is not a typical one. Looking at the pictures from Superstorm Sandy. God love those NY'ers. Standing on dark streets waiting for intermittent buses to take them to work. But I have to wonder too what will happen if the office itself is dark? :spid::badbat::ghost: And yes, I'm going to state the obvious. Big difference between Sandy and Katrina and how people handled it. Godspeed to those cleaning up and getting back to normal again. Will be interesting to see how they handle the flooded subway tunnels. NY like Chicago is a huge mass transit town. Most people rely on public transportation so I wonder how they will deal with the situation quickly as many don't have the means to swap to a car if needed. Cabs will be at a premium I'm sure. Mel - I hope the damage to your building was minimal and you kept the seniors cool and calm. Glad to hear you won't be long without power. At least I hope not. Post when you can. Annie - hope you got a hot pad for work. Also if you freeze a bottle of water, it fits right in the crook of the back and works as an impromtu ice pack if the pain gets too bad. Shame you had to run back to work so quickly. Feel better - *sending you a virtual back rub and a tube of non-stinky Ben-gay* And I made the bruchetta chicken yesterday for dinner. It smelled marvelous and tasted soooooo good. Thank you very much. Could not have been easier to do. I'm glad I read the directions and used fresh tomatoes instead of canned. There's enough left for a second meal. Patty - oh boy - it's hard to have a job that requires you to sit in frequent meetings discussing things that need to get done which you can't do because you are sitting in frequent meetings ;) Delegate when ever you can and don't try to do everything yourself. As for trick or treaters I'm thinking the only ones we will get is the band of turkeys that roams our yard. We live in an area where the houses are set pretty far apart - parents would have to drive the kids around. There are several "trunk and treat" locations set up in town at churches and public facilities where you can drive to a parking lot and the kids go from car to car and you hand out treats. I think that's a much better idea. Trick or treating is from 4pm to 6 in our town today and I am working so DH is going to have to deal with any kids - I will leave him a small bag of candy - it will be over by the time I get home. I just hope the owner left some treats in case any kids show up at the store today. I looked at the weather forecast for Java's town and they were only predicting an inch of snow so I hope she was far enough away from where the big dumping happened. Ceejay - the epicenter of the earthquake was pretty close to home :yikes: I will never forget when they said it would take 18 SECONDS underground for a quake from the New Madrid fault to hit Memphis. Towards the end I was really freaked out about an earthquake hitting and ruining all of our plans to retire. I was very relieved to get out to be honest. Interesting how you describe the puff of wind. Glad it wasn't a big one and nothing was damaged. Shad - hope your day improved. Gotta jump in the shower and get ready for the day ahead. Hellos to the rest of the chicks - will catch up later. |
Morning
A quick one for me. Glad to see that Mel is okay. Such destruction in the North East. It's a little chilly here this morning but not as cold as yesterday. I'm dreading the trick or treaters. May go out to Walmart and wonder around for awhile. Have a good day. I'll be back later. |
Busy, busy, busy. Have to start work early to try to be ready for an early morning meeting. Then I have a yard of support calls to attend to. Then there is a specification for a website app. Then........ think I need a rest.

News from Mel
Got a short email from Mel tonight -
we lose power daily as well as internet & cable repairs are taking forever as you can imagine. they turn our grid off to make repairs somewhere else. (I know from firsthand experience that this is really a pain in the neck as you often don't get much notice the grid is going down). no gas no food floods everyhere no deliveries. atm machines are down so no money. really helps cut down on overspending!! rofl we have enough food for another week. the big problem is deliveries to stores. that's where it's hurting everyone. but we must be patient and see how the governor handles it all. i will call this the new sandy diet plan!!! lol give love to the girls. Don't want to post - we lose power so often with surges, i don't want the pc getting "hit". god forbid i l;ose my frassing computer!!!!!!!!!!!!!. just know we are all safe and sound. |
Evening all,
Another day, another crisis or two to lurch through. I was pleased to leave there tonight after another full day. Then right at the end 5.00pm I got a message about some help desk stuff that I still have open. Fix them and close the call! Yeah right. Two of them I only got at 4.00 and everyone else leaves the building at 4.21. how can I ring someone at 5.00 when they left 40 minutes ago. Yes I will sort it, when I can. Good to hear that Mel is doing okay. The pics coming out of NJ look horrendous. Reminds me of a couple of years ago when 75% of our State was under water after floods, heavy rain and cyclones. Good luck to all of them. Has anyone started a fund to help out the population yet? Let me know if they do. I will donate a couple of bucks. Or maybe I should just post it to Mel and get her to distribute it in a food bank or something for all the oldies (and Mel and Jen and Richie) Okay, I will leave it at that and hope that life improves for NJ and NY. I'll be back tomorrow. Meantime I'm off out to the balcony to sip my wine and read a bit of my new book on kindle. |
Prayers to Mellie and family and all the rest of the NYers and NJers. SHAD..glad you are winding down your week. Enjoy your wine and book.
My world is still spinning. Hey to the rest of ya's. |
Morning all.
Happy - Thanks for passing along Mel's message. I'm glad to hear they're alright, but it sounds like things will be tough for all the East Coasters for quite a while. The news talked about how broken gas lines are posing a big risk in many areas. Just horrible. Shad - Good luck resolving the issues single-handedly. :wizard: Ceejay - Did you manage to avoid the trick or treaters? Annie - Hellos to the rest of the gang. -- Nothing much to report. Finally turning a corner with this !@#$ virus/cough. It's about time! Because the dog goes a bit nutty when people ring the bell/come to the door, bf had intended to leave the house when trick-or-treating started yesterday with a sign out to not ring the doorbell. Instead he bought some candy and doled it out. Reportedly doggy was okay during the afternoon, but at one point in the evening, he was holding doggy in one hand, the candy in the other and doggy pulled him out the storm door and almost dragged him off the stoop! Bf pulled a muscle in his upper back. Sigh. I thought it would be better to keep doggy in the kitchen, or just turn off the light on the stoop and not answer the door. Thankfully we didn't get many kids after 6:30 or so. I turned off the light and closed the door promptly at 8. I exercised to a PBS show I dvr'd called "Classic Stretch". Not sure I'd go out of my way to do this workout again, but it did get me moving. It was faster-paced than I imagined it would be, so I even worked up a sweat! Tonight I might go to a circuit class. :cofdate: |
Prayers and hugs to Mel, Jen, Richie and all those affected by Sandy.
Prayers and hugs to all of you as well. If we don't have a November thread title in mind, for me personally..."November is for New Beginnings". :) Work is busy, which is good. And I'm getting ready to move on Saturday. I got the keys to my new place last night, and took a small load of odds and ends over. Tonight, I'll take another small load over. I'm off work tomorrow because ATT is going to install UVerse TV, Internet and phone in the afternoon. That way, I'll have TV and Internet when I'm moved in Saturday afternoon/evening, and I'll be able to watch the Packer game on Sunday. Have I got my priorities in order or what? :lol3: I don't know how much I'll be able to check in here tomorrow or Saturday...but I should be able to by Sunday. Much love and many hugs, |
Yes Michelle, that sounds right, for both the Nov. thread title and the priorities!! :D :D :D
Good luck with the move! |
